I came here for Easter brunch this past weekend. The food here is fantastic. Extremely fresh and not too greasy as breakfasts sometimes can be. I will definitely be coming here again!!!!

Did you know the best breakfast in Galena is across the tracks in a old historic house...well you do know. And there is no excuse not to go and experience it yourself. It not very big so I'm sure at peak season it can get pretty crowded. Luckily for us it was not and we got seated right away. It a nice mix if standard fare and some more unusual items. I really appreciate there use if local products, the local sasauge in my biscuits and grave really stole the show. It may be the finest Biscuits and Gravy I ever had, My wife lived her Benedict made with cheese biscuits. It has spoiled me from going anywhere else. It's too bad it's so far away because I'd be a regular .

My favorite breakfast stop. Love the egg tacos and the wheat pancakes. Had dinner for the first time and found the same great food at a great price.

We liked Otto's so much we went twice. Our first morning in Galena, we followed a friend's tip and went to Otto's for breakfast. The place is charming and cute, just across the river from the tourist-filled Main Street. We had variations of eggs (spinach frittata for me, eggs benedict for him), and thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast. The portions were generous, but not overwhelming, and the coffee was good and our mugs constantly refilled. Service was friendly and attentive but not overwhelming. The next morning, when deciding where to go, we decided to just stick with Otto's, and it was the right decision. It was definitely a lot more crowded on a Sunday morning than Saturday (roughly the same time), but service was again right on the ball, and our quiche and omelette were delicious. Both days, our bill for two breakfasts and coffee was $20-$25. The upstairs lounge is cozy and overlooks the street and river, and would be a nice place for an evening drink and maybe dessert.

Great atmosphere. Coffee was awful and not warm. Omelette was dry, just ok. Sausage and banana bread French toast were really good. 2 for food, 4 for atmosphere. The server was really friendly and the view of Galena is very nice as well.

First time to Galena- found Otto's from yelp. Great place. Small quiet hometowny. Loved it.

My husband and I went here on our last day of our trip and it was fantastic. I ordered the banana bread french toast with applewood bacon and orange juice. My husband had biscuits and gravy with a side of scrambled eggs with coffee. We both loved the food, very fresh and tasty. The service was excellent, very friendly and my husband's coffee never got cold. The ambiance is very cool and quaint. I'm so glad we found Otto's and will make a point of visiting the next time we're in town. Only complaint is there's no real dedicated parking. There are two spots on the street in front and a public lot across the street which is fine for most but not for disabled folks.

Love the Chicken Salad! A down home atmosphere in a lovely IL town. The restaurant is a landmark in Galena IL with a wonderful staff. The chicken salad is prepared fresh every day with a nice spin on the normal recipe. Recommend getting there early as it gets crowded.

Perfect brunch spot! The building is charming, and across the bridge from the main drag. We spoke to one of the owners (John Waters look-a-like) and he's super friendly. They were able to accommodate our party of 9ppl on Mother's Day. I had Otto's Benedict (yum, cheese sauce poured over biscuits and eggs) and also tried the stuffed french toast (stuffed with sweet cheese). Excellent food and service. Would definitely come back if in the area again.

Get off Main St in Galena and try this place. From a tip at the hotel we ended up here. Historic old building, busy two story dining room.. Has some breakfast stuff not found everywhere. Parking is a bit of an issue.

As a fan of sausage gravy for over 30 years, it is with great pleasure that I proclaim Otto's as the best sausage gravy I've ever had. My wife and I enjoyed a great breakfast this morning. I had the Country Breakfast with biscuit, sausage and sausage gravy. Wow! It was excellent. Served piping hot, with a side of the applewood smoke bacon. My first bite was the bacon and it was excellent. The biscuit, sausage, egg and sausage gravy were even better. I can't remember a better breakfast! And I remember great meals! The restaurant itself is really special. Vey clean, tastefully decorated and with attentive staff. Next time we'll have to try it for lunch or the occasional dinner.

Really good breakfast! It can get crowded, but the table turnover is relatively quick. We were there on a Saturday morning around 9:30/10, and we didn't see people waiting more than 5 minutes. This is a really cute mom n pop breakfast place, with a decently sized menu. The banana bread french toast was stellar, and they had a small but mighty selection of alcoholic breakfast drinks. Yum!

After a disappointing experience across the river, we decided to try something a bit more removed from Main St. This place came recommended by a local and for good reason. We had a very pleasant experience here. Otto's has both downstairs and upstairs seating. We got a table upstairs. The menu has some interesting offerings including some healthy options, which was a welcomed change after so many unhealthy meals in the area. I had the BHT Platter, which is under Appetizers, but it was more than plenty for me as a meal (granted, I wasn't too hungry). I could see sharing it with some people as a group appetizer. It was very yummy. The Grays soda drink I had was too sweet for my taste, but that's not Otto's doing. The decor is nice including interesting art on the wall featuring a local artist. There is also a couch and some other seats in the back (or is that the front?) that serves as a nice spot to sit and read. Do be careful about parking. The big lot across the street toward the river may seem like a quick and easy solution, but take note that it is pay-for parking. Overall, this is a place I'd be happy to return to upon another visit.

To appreciate Galena, you need to get away from Main Street and all the fat tourists clobbering for position at candy, t-shirt and fake antiques stores. You don't realize how terrible America looks until you walk Main Street in Galena. I was pretty much done with this town until we took a walk, crossed the river, then the retaining wall, then the railroad tracks and came upon Otto's. What a gem!!!! The building itself and its location invites you in. Nestled next to the train station and looking over the river and town, it's the ideal spot. The menu is simple...a limited selection that changes daily based on what is available locally and what inspires the chef that day. The owners are always present: one in the kitchen and one making rounds. Service, food, decor....all of it was spot on. If I return to Galena, I'll be sure to make this my go to restaurant.

Otto's Place is amazing!!! We came here for breakfast - and it was wonderful. Super friendly service. John, the owner, was very welcoming and helpful. Not only did he make a delicious Bloody Mary, but he also took the time to give us suggestions as to what to do and where to go in Galena. We did not plan to come back for dinner, but we did. And it was the best decision we made all weekend! Wonderful wine selection - reasonable priced. Limited menu - but I say that in a good way. It changes every week. And the food, again, was delicious. My girlfriends and I are in love with this restaurant and John! We can't wait to come back during out next girls weekend!

We have been to every restaurant in galena through the years. Lots of mediocre places. Otto's is the exception. Fabulous ! Limited menu, but incredibly tasty. We tried almost everything and loved it all!

Well, I don't know why we didn't go to Otto's 20 years ago. It could be because it didn't exist then. But, a few years ago it did come into being in a charming two story restaurant building built in 1899. We have been there three times now. The first and second times were for breakfast which was very good. The sweet potato hash, a special, is just delicious. My wife had Otto's (eggs) benedict which she said were very good. We had lunch there last week and the deliciousness continues. The place is very comfortable and the service is quite good and friendly w/o over doing it. Lunch and, I'm sure, dinner (Sat & Sun) are a bit more. The location is a short walk over a pedestrian bridge from the main retail part of Galena and near the old railroad station; now tourism center. Well worth the walk!

We need to make clutching your plate with both hands and licking the plate clean an acceptable practice in public. I would have done just that at breakfast at Otto's Place. My wife and I went for breakfast on a Sunday morning around 9 AM and luckily got a seat. There is seating upstairs also and they fill up. The server was a queen at multi tasking and very pleasent. What makes their food so delicious is the freshness, love and attention. The breakfast meats they use are organic, local and top notch. Even the yellow of the eggs have a rich, velvety quality that simply comes from the quality, attention to detail and love that Dan and John put into their food. My wife had sweet potato hash. Two words "to die for" !! My only suggestion would be to have Guiness available for breakfast but that is miniscule compared to their overall menu. Otto's Place is spotless, with fresh flowers at each table and the historic building is in outstanding shape. The atmosphere on sunday morning is busy but relaxed, we did not feel rushed in the least and I CAN'T wait to go back!

Hands down, Otto's Place is one of the best spots in Galena. Don't waste your time at some of the stale old stand-by places on Main Street. Make the trek across the river and experience a true original that is honest and authentic, not to mention super friendly. It's our favorite for a classy weekend breakfast, but dinners are also great. We love the fact that the dinner menu changes every week so there is always something new to try.

Once was enough. We went here for breakfast and found it to be a below average place with slow service, a very limited menu, and very small portions. Your meal doesn't come with sides such as potatoes and they don't bother to tell you that little fact either in person or on the menu. The portions are so small I'm not sure a three year old would be full after dining here. We were greated and seated and then ignored for a good 15 minutes to which we got an apology because the were busy. Hello? Isn't that why you have a restaurant, to be busy? I ordered the bisquits and gravy and my wife ordered a side of potatoes and bacon. When our food finally arrived mine was barely room temperature and hers was cold. On the plus side, which is what got it two stars instead of one, is that it's cute and cozy and clean. And, the coffee is excellent. I think the owner here should hire a restaurant manager or consultant to review his menu and his food qaulity. Just going through the motions isn't enough and I foresee this place dying during the slow season in this tourist town.

Great place for breakfast. The bacon was crispy and really good. The food was made fresh to order.

My boyfriend and I decided on Otto's Place on a Sunday morning after visiting Dubuque, IA for my company's holiday party back in January 2012. We were heading home to Rockford, IL, I was researching online to find something preferrably in the Galena area, I wanted to avoid chain establishments and we wanted breakfast. I think I did a search on Google for breakfast restaurants in Galena, IL and ran across Otto's Place. We had some difficulty finding it - we probably drove by it 3 times before we realized where it was (because it looks like a house amongst houses). We walk in to be greeted by a guy who we believe is the owner but we may be wrong. Very welcoming and friendly, he was able to recommend some drinks for us while we looked over the menu. I remember having an omelette of some sort and a bloody mary. We have no complaints about the food and remember thinking we need to revisit Otto's when we're in the area again. We sat downstairs - pretty much right when you walk in - with a window seat that overlooked the river and Main St. There was a train that went by and I was able to snap a couple awesome pictures on my phone of the train. It's very comfortable inside and low-key. Overall we both were very pleased w/our decision to stop there and will definitely go back the next time we're in Galena!

I am sorry, but I cannot agree with many of these reviews. My husband and I went to Otto's based on these reviews. I was very disappointed. First, we got there on a day that was 90 degrees and humid outside and not much better inside. The waitress was covered in sweat and very flushed. My husband had the pasta special and there was nothing special about it. Way too much oregano! I had a chicken salad which was ok but nothing I would go back for. We will not be revisiting Otto's again.

We had dinner here on a Sat nite. I believe it's mostly breakfast and lunch, and dinner on Thurs-Sat only. And dinner had just 2 selections, plus all breakfast/lunch selections available. We ate upstairs, where the atmosphere is a little more intimate than the 1st floor. The creamy vegetable soup was outstandingly tasty. I had the turkey chile with black beans and my wife had the roast chicken. Both very tasty. Very attentive service. I would go back. It's a nice atmosphere inside, away from the hustle and bustle of the main drag. Unlike the previous food place here (Railway Cafe), they have a liquor license so you can imbibe.

Really good breakfast. Sweet potato hash was excellent. Service very good. Friendly atmosphere. Only small negative was the coffee was not as strong as I would like. But I will be back.

Cute neighborhoody place in a super-touristy town. The waiter treated us like family and the food was delicious. Definitely one of the only places worth stopping in Galena.

FANTASTIC FOOD and a great, warm, homey atmosphere. This is what I wish we had more of in Galena! Locally sourced and made with great flavors. I've been now for lunch, brunch and dinner (reservations recommended). Way to go!!!

This place is really a nifty place to visit. I'm one of those people, as my wife is also, who enjoy reading the little stories on the menus that give you a glimpse into the local history of a restaurant. It enhances the experience, both in taste and in ambience. Otto was a man who lived upstairs in this track-side building and had the desire to start a restaurant downstairs in 1899. (I believe it was the year it was built, as well.) Unfortunately, though the new eatery was advertised in the local newspaper, Otto's vision fell through. Out of respect for Otto's dream, the current owners named the restaurant after him. In addition to the history, the owners live by a philosophy based on Bob Perks's story, "I wish you Enough". Essentially it means that, in your experience at the restaurant (and in life), the owners hope that you are provided with enough to still appreciate and enjoy the moment, whatever it may be. So cool! As for the food, the Ham & Cheddar on a Pretzel Roll is quite tasty, and the Portobella Cheese Steak is vegetarian-ly scrumptious. The cheese on the sandwich is made in a local factory, and their soft drinks are from Gray's brewery in Wisconsin. They also serve coffee, wine and desserts. To boot, it's located on the train tracks right before you go over the bridge (westbound); just take a right onto Park Avenue and a left on the next street. It's the cool-looking building on the right. Bring your friends, loved ones, or just a book, this is an experience that is worth a look. "I wish you Enough..."

This is one of the most enjoyable places we have been to near the Main St area. It is definately worth the short walk across the pedestrian bridge, they have a great breakfast.

We had an excellent dinner at Otto's tonight. It is a new place and isn't over-run with tourists yet, but that will soon change when people discover how great it is. We had an appetizers of candied walnuts, fine bleu cheese, fresh sople slices, and red grapes. Simple, fresh, and delicious. I ordered the 3 year cheddar and ham on a pretzel roll, sweet potato fries, and their soup of the day, a fantastic Italian sausage with spinach. My dining companions ordered a steak special with morell mushroom sauce, omelette with spinach, feta, and sundried tomato, and an entree salad with fruit, cheese, and chicken. We sat on the lower level and felt very welcomed and well attended. The food was terrific, staff capable and friendly, and white cake with layers of lemon curd light and heavenly. This is a great value in a lively space in a historic neighborhood, and right near great bike and pedestrian paths, parks, and parking. Check it out!

Otto's was AMAZING. Two friends and I came on a Saturday just after noon and had an incredible brunch experience. The food was fresh, the portions were generous, and the service was superb. We started with brunch cocktails on the couches by the windows upstairs. While seated there, one of the owners came up to us and introduced himself, asked us how we were enjoying Galena, and answered all of our questions with patience and aplomb. Then, while ordering, our server was very friendly and helpful, even taking time to chat with us and take a picture for us. I had the Denver omelet, which was perfectly made - neither too dry nor too goopy - and my friends had the sweet potato hash (which they raved about as well). Awesome atmosphere, awesome service, awesome food and drinks. A flawless experience! The best restaurant we ate at in Galena (better than Fried Green Tomatoes and 111 Main, thought they were also good).

Can I just say...yumm??!!!! So good and so super affordable! This is the best breakfast place that Galena has to offer! Not to mention the lunch items are fantastic and not the usual burger and fries joint. Something with character and charm. The setting is quaint and the park is right there!!!! Hit the trail after breakfast with the family or just sit next to the river and watch the world go by! Mark my words, this place is going to be one of Galena's epicurean jewels!! Love it!! William is fabulous!

My husband and I visited on Sunday morning and had an excellent breakfast. The owner stopped at our table and chatted, the waitress (7/8/12) was attentive and friendly. It was the kind of place you just want to linger for the atmosphere. The portions are healthful and adequate. We would rather have healthful portions of food made with quality ingredients than the mountains of low quality food served many places. We are very happy to have found this place and highly recommend it.

A real gem! Located away from the crowds of Main St. Amazing chicken salad sandwich and breakfasts to die for! Cute decor with super friendly staff! Don't miss this one and don't forget the wines!

If you have small children who need either a high chair or a booster seat, don't go there. They don't cater to families with small kids. No boosters or high chairs.

Went here for breakfast because we heard it was one of the better places in Galena. The place was very cozy and clean. Only bad part was the watress mixed up our orders. The omlettes were very blan, but the banana bread french toast was pretty tasty- minus the syrup.

This is a great little place located off the main strip of shops and eateries across the river. We really enjoyed the food everything tasted good. The only problem is that I am still hungry. I ordered the caesar salad soup combo which was super tiny. My husband had the eggs benedict which he also thought was good but half the plate was empty, no potatoes or fruit etc. I would probably come back but only for a lite bite

Otto's Place is a wonderful new addition to your visit to beautiful Galena, Illinois. The food is fresh, unique and delicious. A special treat is they serve breakfast always. The ambiance is clean, comfortable and welcoming. A great place for ladies to gather.

If you are looking for a small out of the way place with excellent food, this would be the place to go. Galena can be so busy and crowed during tourist season that it is nice to get away from the pushing and shoving. We went to Otto's Place after visiting the old train station and had great service, great food, and even a little history lesson (off the menu).

So cuteeeeee! Seriously though, so glad we stopped here for breakfast before our trip back to Chicago. A perfect way to cap the weekend in Galena! We called a couple days ahead and put our names on the "priority list". I think that's what my wife said it was called. We got there and our table was ready, no wait! Thought it would be still a wait, so that was a pleasant surprise. I ordered the Otto's Benedict. It was a special, scrambled eggs (more like an omelette) with bacon and cheese, biscuits, and tons of more cheese. It was really really good! I got the potatoes on the side and they were also great, very fresh. And options of Sriracha and Cholula. Winner! My wife got the Denver omelette and loved it. Big! We also shared a slice of the banana french toast. Whoa! I normally don't like sweet crazy french toast like that, but this was perfect. One slice was nice to share along with the other dish. Coulda maybe had some more though... :) We will be back when we come back to Galena, duh. I liked reading the story on the menu about the history of the place too.

This place is great - right east of the train tracks. It provides a quiet respite away from busy Main St. I had Denver omelette. It was fantastic! Service was attentive and fast. The manager gave crackers to my son- very family oriented. I would highly recommend this place for its great service and food.

This is hands down the best place to get breakfast in Galena. Local, better quality and more variety than any breakfast on Main Street, and affordable prices. This place is fairly new by downtown Galena standards, so I just got a chance to try it this past weekend. My family however has already been frequenting Otto's since it first opened up, as it offered something unique to the Galena area for breakfast, and was a little set apart from all the touristy joints on Main Street. The location of Otto's is interesting and fun, it's set next to the old Galena rail line and on it's own from other establishments. The old Galena train station is across from it. Walking in, the place is very cozy and the wait staff are very friendly. Service is fast, and they offer a rotating selection of breakfast specials on the weekends. Even though they are mainly known for breakfast, I've heard they have a great lunch menu as well. Scrolled through yelp reviews and decided to order the sweet potato hash, dad ordered the biscuits and gravy. Both were excellent. Sweet potatoes were cooked with spicy sausages that paired well with the earthy caramelized onions and peppers. Mixed in with gooey egg yolk, which I dipped my buttermilk biscuit into, it was exactly what I needed on a randomly cold and rainy June morning. Dad's biscuit gravy was thick but definitely not congealed or bland like some other biscuits and gravy I've tried. Sausage was great and the buttermilk biscuits are amazing. This is my new go to if I ever need breakfast in town, table next to us ordered mimosas which I will definitely try next time.

FANTASTIC FOOD! GREAT SERVICE! FRIENDLY STAFF! We totally enjoyed our time and our experience at Otto's Place. We had a small wedding planned one weekend in September 2015. The day of the wedding the bridemaids decided to spend time with the Bride and decided to have breakfast together. It was so funny that as we were eating breakfast nearly EVERYONE who was attending the wedding came to Otto's place. It was a fun time saying hello to everyone what walked through the door. Despite our large party they staff accommodated our party, served us breakfast quickly, and the food was SO Delicious. I had the corned beef skillet...and it was the most amazing corned beef I have EVER HAD. I've eatten alot of corned beef. As a parting gift the staff gave the bride a serving for two bottle of champaign! WE LOVE THIS PLACE and would definitely would come back and would highly recommend going!

We spent four days in Galena and found Otto's on our last day..... crap! We were told by a local that Otto's Place had the best breakfast in "the territory" so naturally our expectations were high..... we weren't disappointed. This is a cute little restaurant set up against some old train tracks, down the street from Ulysses Grant's home and they have a great little story.... maybe even better than Grant's...... but I digress. I had the cheese omelette (because I'm a little boring) and not only was it tasty it was bigger than a chicken. My wife had the Quiche of the Day which she said was like eating custard pie (to her that's a good thing). Definitely try Otto's for at least one breakfast or lunch while you're in the area and you'll be happy you did..

Perfect spot, across the river, from all the Main Street shopping in Galena. Went early on a Friday morning for breakfast, which might be the reason for immediate seating. Our party had a breakfast sandwich, Denver omelette, cinnamon French toast, and homemade hash, eggs and a biscuit. All was very tasty, with the homemade hash getting the biggest "wows" in the group. Would definitely go back again.

Yes pleeeease banana bread french toast. It was too good. Thick and hearty and not overly sweet. Plus, reasonably priced! 2 slices was just enough to be satisfying and not to leave full of as many regrets as calories. Love the location as well, sitting across from the train station and looking out over the park. Adorable, super homey, and really warm staff. I just wish they didn't charge extra for real maple syrup-- $1.75 especially is pretty steep!!

Great place for breakfast or dinner. we had both there this last weekend. I have had breakfast at Ottos before but never was around for dinner. they serve dinner on Friday, sat, sunday only. limited menu which changes weekly. My wife had the bruschetta which was nicely done with ricotta and tomato and i had the jerked beef skewers which had a mild jerk seasoning and coconut rice. tender and tasty. For entrees we had the cheese ravioli which were tender and full of flavor with a veggie sauce. i had the Turkey quinoa meatloaf which had a great texture and came with mashed potatoes and a asian type sauce. very nice take on a classic comfort dish. nice selection of wine by bottle or glass, craft beer and cocktails are avaialble. reservations highly recommended as it gets packed. highly recommended for tourists or locals.

After seeing all the scrumptious pictures here of their breakfast offerings, I made it over to Otto's on a weekday winter morning with a friend. In short, all of my expectations were met from the standpoint of freshness, menu choices, helpful service, and delicious food. The room is also a very pleasant one with views of downtown Galena. Casual and comfortable from the get go. I chose the Corned Beef Hash with eggs and my friend had the "Quiche du jour," with gruyere chees and asparagus. In short, my hash was the best I'd ever tasted. Larger morsels of potatoes and Corned Beef (these are often chopped into tidbits at many a diner,) and sitting in a very flavorful BROTH, no less. That was a nice liquid surprise. Over easy eggs on top and store made biscuits on the side. Corned Beef Hash can often be a sodium bomb, or at least taste like one. That was not the case here. I sampled my friend's quiche and nibbled on her cinnamon coffee cake. The quiche was rich and redolent with artisan Wisconsin Gruyere cheese. The coffeecake tasted homemade. Since it was not busy, we took the time to chat up our server gave us some great information about local ingredients and vendors. She also recommended other lunch and dinner items we many want to try in the future. Otto's is a great value and a classy casual experience for breakfast or lunch in Galena. Dinner is served weekends. Can't wait to return.

Delicious breakfast. I had two eggs over medium with hash browns and my wife had the mushroom inker with hash browns. The place is very friendly and has need history. Our waitress helped get our toddler situated and brought her a bowl of fruit right away. That was a huge help. We sat upstairs and there are very comfortable couches to relax on and have your coffee. Very happy we found the off the beaten path restaurant. My only wish the hash browns were from shredded potatoes. But in general very enjoyable. Highly recommend. Also if you have trouble finding it it is right next to the railroad.

We went here for brunch over the Labor Day weekend. If you are here for breakfast you have to go here. It was so yummy. The service was great, you can tell the staff definitely enjoys working there. We got a piece of cinnamon swirl French toast and an half order of biscuits and gravy to share so we could taste them. I grew up in the south and let me tell you, these people know how to do biscuits and gravy. So good. I also had the sweet potato hash which was fantastic and the omelettes looked good too. The table next to us had the quiche which wi be on my list next time we go. And there will be a next time because this place is great!!!

Amazing fresh homemade quiche!! Bacon was high quality. Toast was from bread that was fresh and substantial. Best meal in Galena! Charming atmosphere. Very friendly & attentive staff

Great breakfast spot in Galena just a little bit out of the busy part of town. We had breakfast our first morning in Galena on the main street and it was pretty good, but we were so glad we branched out our second morning to find Otto's Place. It looks like a quiet little place but it really is a pretty busy place. We walked up and saw no crowd but actually were told there was a 40 minute wait! Worked out well because there is a nice walking path right near by that is perfect for site seeing on the quiet side of the Galena River with great views of Galena. We made it back earlier than the expected wait time which worked out well since Otto's Place takes their wait list seriously...if you are not there to respond to hearing your name called they just pass it along to the next person (which was us this time!) So take that nice walk, but be quick about it. The food was well worth the wait. My wife had the bacon, apple, and Gorgonzola omelet special that was moist and tasty and I had the egg tacos which were also great. We shared the banana bread french toast as well to top off the meal. All the food was served quickly and the service was friendly and prompt. Contrary to their motto, Otto's Place does more than just enough for their customers! We will definitely go again on our next visit to Galena.

Perfect place for a quick cocktail stop. Lounge area upstairs offered a nice place to take a quick break. Super friendly staff, Bloody Mary bar and great mimosas. Didn't eat, but ALL of the entrées looked great!

After reading lot of reviews I was excited and anticipated excellent meal but food was not that good. Biscuits were dry and food was oily.

The breakfast tacos, are a great way to start the day!!!! Staff is friendly, atmosphere is warm... My second time here.... And both times were great!

We have often eaten lunch at Otto's and the food has been well prepared, nicely presented, and very tasty. We had dinner on a Friday night and were even more impressed with the entire experience, from talking with the owner, sampling the wine, to enjoying the excellent meal. Don't miss Otto's.

Fresh produce, homemade everything & great service are all in evidence here. You can't go wrong with the quiche or potatoes or pancakes.

This is my most favorite place is Galena! Their breakfast is delicious and fresh! Our server was amazing! The sweetest guy! Right from when you walk in, you will be greeted by attentive staff and the owner himself! A lot of places in Galena can learn a little something from this wonderful establishment!

Another great breakfast at ottos ; egg white tacos with siracha sauce, cheese and broccoli omlette!

I finally stopped in for dinner, which as of this writing is only served on Fridays and Saturdays. After 10 months, I can proclaim Otto's as being the best place for dinner in Galena, hands down. My companion had the butternut squash ravioli. While a bit sweet, the overall combination of flavors was excellent. Homemade pasta is always a nice touch. I had the crab stuffed barramundi. It didn't blow my socks off, but everything about the meal was very well done. It's not easy to make asparagus out of season taste good, but the chef did. Everything was perfectly cooked. If I had a vote, Otto's Place wins best restaurant in Galena.

I'm from Chicago, and I am a princess when it comes to brunch. Very high standards. I found this place on Yelp, and it def did not disappoint. Food and ambiance are everything I look for in a place on a Sunday morning. Staff was super friendly. I'll def be back next time I'm in Galena.

I liked this place. It has a very cute atmosphere and really good food. My husband and I both enjoyed it and both wish we had a place like this by our house. We sat upstairs and it was cozy up there. A great place to eat, grab coffee or drink some wine.

Outstanding! This has to be the best dinner restaurant in Galena. Check their website for the weekly dinner specials; I believe the breakfast/brunch menu is constant. It's a small place so make sure to make a reservation if you're going in warmer weather or on a big tourist weekend. I thought the food, wine and beer were priced really well but that mixed drinks were slightly overpriced. It appeared like most diners agreed - I was seated against the back wall and didn't see a single diner order one.

Returned to celebrate first wedding anniversary at Otto's! Once again the service and menu selection was fabulous! So many tasty dishes available! My husband and I both loved our appetizers and entrees, took dessert home! Truly, Otto's place is a gem, you will not find this quality food in relaxing and friendly atmosphere anywhere else. We eat at Otto's every trip to Galena. Love the food, the people, the owners!

Definitely great service and solid breakfast. We ordered the Omelette with asparagus and it was delicious. The banana nut french toast was fantastic. I like that they keep attention to detail in presentation of the dishes. We went there on a Holiday weekend and form some reason they were only serving breakfast all day so I cannot speak for brunch or lunch. I don't live around the area so I won;t be able to drive 1,000 miles to try lunch and evaluate it. They were also very attentive and kept us informed at all times about the waiting time since the place was packed when we arrived. They have a very quick turn around for tables so we only wait for about 10 minutes. It was worth the wai. Try it!

Loved Otto's. Had lunch one day and my birthday dinner the next night while in town on vacation. Food was really good, I had a tilapia polenta dinner which just had a great combo of flavors. The lemon icebox cake was so yummy. Best birthday cake ever! John was so nice, just a really good person with a great restaurant. Hope to be back again some day!

The best place, hands down, to enjoy a beautiful breakfast. You must order the pancakes with maple syrup! The best bloody Mary's and the mimosas aren't too shabby either! Make sure you read the little article on the table front and back.

Well worth the wait! Better than all other downtown locations in Galena for breakfast. Wonderful service and great food. Not BYOB but they have mimosas and bloody mary's.

We came here for lunch after Christmas when we were spending a night in Galena. So glad we picked this spot as it was great! We like their food philosophy and the charm of it being located next to the train depot. The atmosphere is as advertised, relaxed and a good place to meet up with friends. It seemed like the various tables on the bottom level knew each other. My husband and I sat on the second level. I had the Otto's benedict with bacon on the side to give to my meat eating husband. The cheddar cheese biscuits that came with the benedict were delicious. The bloody mary is worth ordering. My husband had the turkey chili and house salad. He said the chili was solid and the house salad was exceptional. I agree with the house salad being exceptional. Who has ever heard of a house salad having goat cheese? Love it! If we're in Galena again, we'd definitely return back to Otto's.

Otto's is known for its breakfasts and lunches, but to me the dinners are the best. The menu is limited but showcases local ingredients and allows for perfection of each dish. The wine selection features little known wines and they suggest you try them before you commit. I always find something I like that I've never heard of before! They never rush their guests--dinner is served at a relaxed pace. Ottos is definitely on the favorites list!

If you are in Galena I would highly recommend Otto's Place for breakfast/ brunch. We stopped in for breakfast before heading back home after a weekend of skiiing and our expectations were exceeded. It was hard to decide what to get with all the good options on the menu but we ended up with biscuits and gravy, stuffed french toast, a side of sweet potato hash, and a sticky bun. The stuffed french toast will satisfy your sweet tooth, the sweet potato hash is full of flavor and the biscuits and gravy were a well done classic.

Directed here as the best spot for breakfast. Atmosphere: Very cool little spot right near the train depot on the east side of the river. Big picture windows overlooking the train depot make this a Mayberry kind of feel. The kitchen is on the 1st floor of this narrow little establishment so the seating area is small but there is additional seating up the stairs on the second floor. Service: Service was top notch. Our waitress was attentive and personable. The chef came out to see how the food was and if there was anything else we needed. Food: Everything was fresh and tasted of high quality and homemade. The biscuits were made from scratch as was the sausage gravy. Everything was great.

Completely confused about the hype regarding this place. It's really just average in almost every way. The only aspect that isn't average, in my perspective, would be the cute little house in which it is situated. Also loved looking out across from the old train station, the river and a bit of Grant park. The food, most importantly, was completely average. We had an order of the coffee cake which was okay but nothing extraordinary. I had the roasted vegetable and goat cheese frittata. I was really looking forward to it since I love goat cheese and roasted vegetables but it was seriously bland. Service was fine but nothing remarkable. We ordered the food, it came, we paid. I am not sure that the waitress smiled or said one word more than necessary.

What a wonderful place! Very cute interior and staff were all very nice and attentive. I had the sweet potatoe hash and it was outstanding, the hot biscuits to go with it was a great addition. I will def be back !! Thank you for an awesome breakfast. Do not pass this place up, you must eat here!!!

Best breakfast in town! No other place is even worth considering. They have an adorable set up and even have a comfy little couch setup upstairs for just relaxing with a cup of coffee and the paper. Great from breakfast, lunch or dinner. My favorites are the egg tacos, florentine Benedict, and the Cesar salad- but I'm a creature of habit. My husband has tried many other things on the menu and is never disappointed!

What a disappointment! We arrived at noon for brunch and they were out of all of their specials and unique items already - hours before closing. So we were stuck with basics like omelets (they were so greasy and tough, almost like it had been fried - rather than fluffy). We did get to try their home made cinnamon roll which but that was so very bland and dry. Pricey. Service was very good but would not go back.

This restaurant was wonderful! My boyfriend and I went there based on the yelp reviews and we are very glad we did! We started with the Brie quesadillas and were very happy. He had the quiche that was on special and I had the chicken Cordon bleu sandwich on a pretzel bun and we ended up cutting both in half to share because they were both so good. Service and the general atmosphere was everything we could have asked for as a spot for lunch. I would also recommend reading a bit about the history of the building, because it made the experience that much more enjoyable. Definitely will go back when we come to galena again!

Food was OK for the high price point, expected to be more wowed (we had an omelette, the hash, and pancakes). Really lost a star because the $4 orange juice tasted like expired generic OJ from concentrate. You can get this at Denny's for $2. Lovely historic building with view from the large windows. Should consider an entry that blocks the wind or at least a door that shuts automatically.

The first time I came here was in October and my experience was perfect. The food was great, the service was great, everything was just as ordered. I came back in December and was so looking forward to it. Unfortunately, I cannot give the same review. Everything was off. First, my order was cooked incorrectly, but that was an easy fix. The biscuits for my biscuits and gravy were beyond hard and extremely dry. They barely gave me enough gravy because it was on the side instead of on the biscuits because of making my order wrong in the first place. When I asked for extra gravy to actually cover them, I was charged for it. They also forgot to bring us items we ordered. The experience this time was just not up to par. I'll still give them another chance, but if I have the same experience, I won't come back.

I liked it, menu has good variety and some interesting options not easily found anywhere else. Such items as butternut squash omelet with Gorgonzola or sweet potato hash, my companion prefers the diner type menu with your standards. The music could be a lot better, some odd Cher knock off doing Elton John. Service and atmosphere are great. Coffee a bit watered down but food Waac

As good as it gets! Price was very reasonable. Wonderful view of the riverfront and all the businesses on the west side of the river. Nice to have a place to "escape" downtown. Staff was as good as you could hope for. Very friendly and helpful. Food was out of this world. The Benedict was unreal! Four large biscuits, sausage patties, eggs, and gravy. I'm trying to convince my wife to go back tomorrow!

Visited galena from Chicago and rely heavily on yelp reviews!! My boyfriend and I were not disappointed!! The cozy atmosphere was nice and relaxing, our waitress was attentive and friendly and our breakfast was amazing!!!! Hands down the best corn beef hash I've ever had!! Made in house biscuits to die for and the gravy was soooo good! I will definitely come back to otto's next time I'm in galena!

What a great find. We went here based on the many positive reviews and we were not disappointed. We normally like to mix it up when in a new town, but given our great experience here on Saturday, we returned here on Sunday as well. The food was great (I got an omelette and a side of banana bread french toast....crazy good!) (my girlfriend got a bunch of sides since she needs gluten free...corn beef hash was awesome as was the bacon). Ashley, our server was very nice and attentive in spite of having every table on the floor both times we visited. A definite MUST VISIT when you are in Galena.

We had a great Sunday morning breakfast at Otto's. We were staying at a townhouse at Eagle's Ridge but wanted to get into town and Otto's didn't disappoint. I heard it gets busy later on weekend mornings, but when we were there about 8:45 a.m., we had no trouble getting a table. Service was friendly and quick and everyone enjoyed their breakfast. The "pigs in a blanket" was unique -- three pieces of bacon with a pancake made right on top of them. Yum!

Taste: 4/5 Location: 3.5/5 Cleanliness: 4.5/5 Ambience: 5/5 Value for Money: 4/5 (Price, given the Food Taste) Service: 4/5 Simply love this place. Great food, great vibe and ambience. If you happen to be in Galena, and are looking for a brunch place, Otto's Place is a must-go-and-try! It's cozy and homey. We ordered the Frittata ( goo.gl/iMhDX ), Sloppy Julia Sandwich ( goo.gl/4dvzu ), Egg Tacos ( goo.gl/LxR3j ), and Banana Bread Sandwich ( goo.gl/gxFlR ). I really recommend the Banana Bread Sandwich, it's delightful!

We actually tried this place after reading some of the reviews and we weren't disappointed! We went in for breakfast, and while they were pretty busy, we didn't have to wait for a table. Our server was phenomenal. She always had just what we needed when we needed it without being over bearing. My husband and I are both coffee drinkers, and theirs didn't disappoint! I ordered the egg tacos, which I have been thinking about since we went a couple weeks ago. I'm ready to drive the hour and a half just for another order! Perfect blend of spicy and creamy with what tasted like Siracha and goat cheese on top of eggs mixed with spinach and mushrooms served on a corn tortilla. I cleaned my plate, and was so sad when they were gone. My husband ordered the biscuits and gravy, and said they were great as well. This is a really quaint place off the beaten path. Make sure you take time to read about their history on the card on the table. We will be back!!

this place was so cute, the decor feels so homey and I love that they had fresh flowers on each table, a very well cared for establishment. I had the two eggs breakfast and had no issues, although my eggs were flat I was hoping for them to be a little fluffier. My boyfriend had the Country Benedict and it made me wish I hadn't stuck with my safe choice. It was so delicious, best sausage gravy we've ever had. Will definitely be coming back :)

There was at least one outstanding effort from this eatery for breakfast. It was a banana bread french toast. I asked the front man named John, "How do you get the banana bread so light?" Of course, he responded, "Magic!" Before I left, I asked the chef whose name I think is Dan and he said the same thing, and when I asked him if it was "cake flour" he shook his head "no".

This is an update of an earlier review. What they have done with the building is fantastic. The breakfasts are good. The lunches are mediocre. The service and quality of the preparation is spotty.

We stopped here the end of September for breakfast. The service was prompt, the waiter was attentive and "sassy" with sarcasm in a jovial way that wasn't offensive(to us) but were pretty laid back. The food was good. Others mentioned issues with it being bland but I can say it was anything but that. About my only thing to note that the mimosa was small and pricey, but you're having "fancy" alcohol in a tourist town, so no surprise on that.

This was our second trip, and we brought along our sister-in-law since we loved it last time. We started with the cheese plate starter, which was wonderful. The various fruits worked so well with the blue cheese. Two of us had sandwiches - chicken salad and chicken with bacon on a pretzel roll. They were excellent. I ordered the biscuits and gravy and a spinach salad, very good. The setting is an old store front and has a great second floor dining area. Their menu is a unique play on breakfast and lunch and is well-worth a visit.

We had Sunday brunch at Otto's for my Mom's birthday. The owner John made our experience so special. He is funny and charming and knows how to make his guests feel like celebrities! Our meals were all very tasty, fresh and for the most part locally sourced. You can tell a lot of care goes into making the food here. Even my toast tasted like it just came out of the oven. They also have specialty cocktails (yes, alcohol, yay!) so enjoy a bloody mary or mimosa or John's specialty Screwdriver, which made my Mom (who doesn't really drink) very smiley! ;) Lots of parking at the Information Center across the street and a nice lounge area on the second floor if there is a wait. Which there likely would/should be! Thanks John and team. We can't wait to come back! Iowa/Chicago girls
