Loved it. Warm atmosphere, great music, delicious wine and the meal far exceeded our expectations. We were just planning to stay for a drink and move on... So glad we didn't! I can't wait to return. I'm still dreaming about those Grit Cakes...
I'm not a big fan of wine, but my friend had a gift certificate here so I went along. The place has a very nice, intimate feel but it's small so the smoke from the kitchen started to swarm the room. The staff opened the doors, but it was still pretty smoky. I know it's a wine bar, but they had a pretty small menu. I got the oysters for an appetizer and the grit cakes for my "large plate". Guess I was in a NOLA kinda mood. The oysters were okay, nicely presented though on a large mound of salt. I didn't know what to expect of the grit cakes, but it was okay. Everything had a nice flavor, but the actual grit cakes were very airy and fluffy which left me still hungry. The portions are small for the price you pay. My friends steak looked good with brussel sprouts. She wasn't too happy - her steak was too rare for her liking and she wasn't a fan of brussel sprouts. I would have rather had that meal though. I love both. Her meal looked more fulfilling. I didn't get wine because I'm not a wine drinker, but ginger ale was good! lol Apparently, the place is closing soon. They are in the process of looking for a new location.
Had an OK experience here. The wine was good and the charcuterie plate was decent, however, the service we received was underwhelming. After reading the other positive reviews for this place I was expecting a knowledgeable sommelier to guide us through choosing wines, but what we actually had was someone who could care less about our experience. Maybe it was because me and my companion look young? Much younger than the other clientele anyway. The server along with who I would assume was the owner, didn't want to pay us the same attention as the other patrons. Overall, we did not feel like it was a welcoming experience and would not be back.

I have nothing negative to say about 'R Place. The food is fantastic (best wings around), the drinks are cold and refilled quickly and there are plenty of TVs with any game on you could wish for. Whether you're grabbing lunch, catching up with friends for dinner/drinks or looking to catch a game, I highly recommend checking this place out.
Great local pub to grab lunch. Was in town and wanted local pub food. Very friendly service.
R Place is a perfect example of why I prefer the dive bar. The crowd here is always innocuous. No pretension or douche baggery. Everybody here gets along and just wants to unwind and have a good time. Nothing fancy. The beer selection is even below my standards, but it's okay. Drinking here for a couple hours with a friend makes me happy, and lets me forget about this sick, deranged world we live in. The first time I came here, I passed it up. It's that small. But once you walk inside, it's reminiscent of a cozy, warm blanket. But with more drunk people. This place features more dive than Michael Phelps, but it's all good. Sometimes, that's all we need.

This is my hidden treasure in the Oak Park area. From the outside it doesn't look like much but the interior is nicely done, classy and stylish. This was my second time there and again the chef brought us two free appetizers just to taste his new inventions. The quality of the specialized Maki rolls is very good. I would specially recommend the maki roll. the baked surface gives it an almost un-sushi taste :) I am definitely coming back!
The best in the area. Great servers and fresh sushi. Chef Stefano is the best! Try their Jalapeno pepper tuna! Tons of regular customers. Why? Food and friendly people. You can't go wrong in Fuji Grill. Ask for Chef Stefano's special soy sauce. The best!
The Wasabi Roll was delicious, so we ordered two! The chef treated us with a couple complimentary dishes which were fantastic. Highly recommend!

Great subs Fast and friendly service Open late. 4am on Friday and sat Best garlicky fries
This place reminded me of the late night food joints we would hit up in college. I came here after spending the night across the street at Old School Tavern ('nuff said). I was desperate for some grease, so we ordered mozz sticks, a large fry, and a double cheeseburger to share. All of this was under $10, and was definitely enough to share between two people. The burger tasted really good, but was a thin burger similar to what you get at Wendys or McDonalds. The fries were skinny, crispy, and the portion was huge. I think the large fry was $1.70 to boot! Deal of the day. The mozz sticks were hot, delicious and crispy. All the sandwiches being ordered by other patrons looked really good. I would love to come back for a sammy, especially when my focus is a little bit better ;) and I can truly enjoy it.
Big Portions with great price The BG fries is what brought me here. French Fries with BUTTER and Garlic why aren't more people doing this? You get a SUPER LARGE amount of fries. You might actually want to order one and just share it.I love these more than the duck fat fries that a few local bars sell in forest park. You're able to get a variety of items that aren't just subs, (gyro, burgers, pizza puff, etc) Parking Sucks. World smallest parking lot....Do yourself a favor and park on the street. Parking is suppose to be one way but people are dumb and will pull up the wrong way Someone almost hit me walking in the door. I literally had to push the person in front of me and jump out the way otherwise I would have been like Sgt. Dan and had some new legs. The photo I added wasn't even the same day. This is just a typical thing to see people having a hard time getting out of the park when it's busy.

Have lost count of the number of times I've grabbed lunch to go from here. And in all of those times I have yet to venture past their daily special. Honestly their standard menu doesn't have a lot outside the standard stuff, but their daily sandwich is almost always interesting. Usually pair that with one of the soup of the day options, upsized, and it makes a good, cheap meal to share for lunch. Take advantage of their Yelp deal in conjunction with their buy 5 get 1 free deal on soup for your freezer stash. Their Oktoberfest soup is our favorite thus far.
Oh man. Love this place. It's a bit pricey, but it's well worth it. I usually order two full sandwiches and eat off it for a couple days. Lanasa is legit. DeForest Pork is too. French Onion is the only soup I've ordered and was good. Fries are outstanding as well. Always have ordered delivery.
I work on a major tv show with a large crew, our craft services brought us some sandwiches from Starship. Or, "StarShits" as we call it now, 39 people got food poisoning, including myself. At least one went to the hospital and it crippled production for a couple days after. The symptoms of those who got sick were of food poisoning, approx 24 hrs after eating the contaminated food we were vomiting non stop and explosive diarrhea that lasted about two days. Then nothing. We all got sick simultaneously. The only people who got sick were those who ate the sandwiches and everyone that ate the sandwiches got sick. Craft services picks up the food and immediately delivers it to set to be eaten, it does not sit. The word is Starship didn't take responsibility because they don't handle the food after its picked up. What a joke.

I love coming here for a quick bite. The wait is never long and the food is cheap and delicious. I usually get the frittata or skillet and share it with my wife with a side of pancakes or French toast. The staff is friendly and courteous, which makes the visit that much more enjoyable. Stop by if you're in the area.
Forest Park has come a long way since it's border-line seedy days of the 1990s when I was a resident. MP Kitchen is a fine example of FP's new upscale attitude, but MP doesn't give you attitude, it gives you good breakfast in big portions served friendly. Don't get be wrong, Madison Street still has lots of bars, including the eternal Doc Ryan's. You can still go on a pretty good bender and eat BG fries from Sub T's. So when you wake up in your car or an alley, if you don't stink too much, brush yourself off and head over to MP kitchen and evaluate your choices over a huge omelet or giant stack of pancakes. Do something with your life! But start with a good breakfast!
This is a super great brunch location. I came here around 11 with my family and some of us got lunch and some breakfast but we all left satisfied. The breakfast menu was insanely big and had a lot of options for whatever you could want from skillets to omelets to things like waffles and pancakes. I would definitely check this place out if you're in the mood for a yummy breakfast.

As favorite place to dine when in forest park..
Simple breakfasts, omelets, eggs, French Toast, pancakes. And they are all pretty good. I have not been there for lunch. But breakfast is pretty good. The People who work there are always friendly, which is always a plus. The food has always been top notch. I really enjoyed their French Toast with a side of ham. Though I may bring a bottle of sugar free syrup, they have agave nectar and though it is sweet, it does not taste like maple. But I have never had a complaint and they service is quick and you still do not fee rushed.

After weighing a lot of other Forest Park birthday dinner choices (process of elimination: is it baby-friendly???) we chose Old School. Ordered the awesome pulled pork. Can't wait. Uh, oh, the owner comes out and says they just ran out, can they substitute the brisket at the same price? The brisket was very good. The peach BBQ sauce, which is just perfect - a bit spicy, a bit gingery, on the sweet side - is a great complement. It's a sports bar, with lots of video screens, but there were families at other tables, enjoying the food. We felt comfortable. My 5-week old grandson slept through it all, woke up, had a bottle and was content. We'll be back. Only thing they're missing? Pie. Still no pie. ; ) Warm pie with a crispy crust, and a la mode, and you'll be back to five stars in our book. Really a great neighborhood place, pie or no pie.
We went there a few weeks ago and absolutely loved the food! They also have a large selection of craft beers! I also had a Moscow mule which was deeeelicious!! Everyone that worked there was very friendly and attentive! We had the pulled pork sandwich and a beef brisket sandwich that were awesome and the coleslaw is the best! Also had an heirloom tomato & asparagus salad that was to die for! Can't wait to go back and try some log the other menu items!
Good food, great prices, specials, and lots of good beer on tap. Friendly neighborhood spot, look forward to heading back and enjoying the beer deck and outdoor firepit.

Restaurant review I really wanted to like this restaurant so much, but it fell far off the deep end. I have a knack for liking diners especially family own ones. This place fits the mold perfectly, but I must have ordered the wrong food. I had the chicken Parmesan and after ordering I could hear the cook microwaving my entire meal. First the chicken then the pasta with the chicken and cheese. They forgot to bring out my soup beforehand and my waitress went back in and I heard the microwave zapping my food again. The chicken noodle soup looks exactly like the campbell chicken noodle. The menu promised fresh home made bread but that was not to be seen at all except for garlic bread triangles. There use to be a lot more steak items for dinner based on the menu outside, but I did not really see any on the menu. Oh well, worth the experience I guess but I will not be back Pro: cheap price Cons: microwaved food.... sigh Hidden gem: None
Love this place. The food is great, the people are nice, and the place is clean. It's perfect for breakfast. Try the chilaquiles - not on the menu but very good.
This place is great. Me and my girlfriend saw this place on yelp and restaurants.com so we wanted to check it out. .. love the small and relax feel. The people are really nice and food was great. Even had some to take home . Will be back.... Thanks Mom's.
