"The Whip" is a local tradition. These crave-able burgers have unique flavor and is light on the wallet. Yum.

Polar Whip is a no frills kind of place. The food is not healthy but it tastes good and it's cheap. The restaurant doesn't pretend to be fancy and has been a Southern Illinois staple for years. You get what you get at Polar Whip and that is nice little burgers and fries at very affordable prices.

Loaded with history a local family ran over generations hamburger shop that whipped inflation in the 70s and a unique taste not in a bad way at all more an addictive taste and the price cannot be beat. I have eaten there my whole life. We always stop in we get that way and sometimes it's the reason were going. If your on 57 with the time its worth the extra few miles the price would offset the little extra gas. this is the only chance cause its one of a kind. Soon as you go in be someone behind counter tellem ur order n he yells it back to the kitchen then a short wait and drinks done eat there or take it with. (First time? try one before u get far you may go back in) I've sold myself going next Monday! Oh yea (do double burgers too.)

Overall I'd say it was pretty average. I had a double cheeseburger, a fish sandwich, and an order of fried mushrooms. The mushrooms only had 6 small mushrooms in the order, so that sucked. All of the food was piping hot and tasted the way you'd expect a burger, fish, and 'shrooms to taste, but there was nothing remarkable about any of it. Definitely nothing to make me go out of my way too eat there. The worst part was, they only take cash. Who carries cash anymore? Still, it was better, and different, than McDonald's and other chain fast food, so there's that anyway.

If you haven't grown up eating at the Whip it may take some getting used to. The burgers are a mixture of beef and grain cereal. They are cheap and SO GOOD. I normally get a double cheese and an order of fried green beans.

Polar whip is an absolute must for us folks from Southern Illinois. Their beef mixture with onion and pickle and with American cheese (double cheese, EVERY TIME) equals a cheap, delicious, unique burger experience. The fried green beans are yummy! "Here's an order!" :)

Love the burgers here! I have to get a double cheese every time we come to town. Very unique burgers (garlicky? oniony?). You either love them or hate them. Don't expect a quarter pounder of Angus beef...just a really delicious, really unique burger. I crave them more than I do White Castle, which is a close second for me in terms of greasy fast food burgers.

This place is a local legend. I eat here all the time! Try the Aztec if you are really hungry. Fried pickles are good as are the green beans. Great food at cheap prices.

Going through the Blue Gill "Best Places to Eat in Southern Illinois" list, we happened upon this place. Someone at work had let me try the fried mushrooms the week before and I did like them. The honey and I strolled into this small "greasy spoon" on a Saturday morning around 11 am. We saw many cars outside and a constant flow of cars. Many people headed to their car with little brown bags. We went in, grabbed a menu, and ordered at the counter. First, we were surprised at the pricing- SUPER CHEAP! We went for it and ordered 4 double cheeseburgers, a steak sandwich, a fish sandwich, and fried green beans. We waited about 10 minutes and were called up. Got a XL cherry coke to go. All that for $14 bucks. Can I just say- We loved it! had a sandwich in the parking lot and took the rest home because we failed to order it "loaded". We had to add Mayo with ketchup and mustard at home. The green beans were awesome! We will be back.

It's cheap eats at its best at Energy's only restaurant! This place isn't designed for the gourmand, but the working man who needs to fill his belly. You can't go wrong with a burger and fries...some of the best fries around...crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. My husband loves the hot ham and cheese...ham grilled then placed on the bun, which is toasted slightly from the grill and good old' American cheese. My personal fav is the BBQ with a side of fried green beans. Hey, it's a veggie! Also love the fried pickle spears here! And yes the name is "Polar Whip" so try a shake cause they're tasty, too. For you folks with an onion phobia, ask for no onions cause most every sandwich comes with chopped raw onions. Want a blueberry Sprite? You can get it here along with most any flavor added to your soft drink. Just do like the locals and order the drink when ya get our food not when ya order it. For a double cheese burger, fries and large soft drink it'll cost ya around $3.
