Like most other reviewers , we came here for lunch after my Aunt's burial at Abraham Lincoln and we couldn't be happier with them. We had the private room in the back for about 20 people...we had to waitresses and they were awesome..we all got our food at the same time. It was family style. We had rolls which were very good...just lightly has a garlic taste..my husband loved them. He had chicken soup which he said was good and I had a salad. Main course was grilled chicken - very good...beef - kind of bland...mostaccoli - kind of bland..mashed potatoes - very good...green beans with a red sauce on them..I didn't try those but I overheard my cousin say she loved them. My 5 star rating is due to the excellent service and compassion they had for us.

At first, this place seemed nice. The prices seem high but the meals come with more than you think. For example, the $9 omelet comes with pancakes and hash browns. This would have been fine if the food was good. The food looks good, but once you dig in, it becomes obvious the quality is not there. For example, the bowl of fruit had a couple pieces that were mostly rhines, and also had a few hard melon seeds. How hard is it to seed a cantaloupe? The Ruben had pieces of meat that were as fatty and chewy as undercooked bacon and the chopped steak was nothing more than a grissley hamburger without a bun. Oh, and the French onion soup had no cheese. The only good things were that the food was hot and the service was good.

We attended my Dad's funeral at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. There was about 20 of us in attendance and I was looking for a restaurant where we could all sit down and have something to eat. Silver Dollar Restaurant was recommended to us and we couldn't have been happier. The service and the food was great. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who is in Elwood for a funeral or any other reason. Thank you for taking such good care of us!!!

I attended a funeral for a close relative yesterday, He was buried at the Abraham Lincoln Cemetery. The family called upon this restaurant to host the funeral luncheon. Upon entering, the tables looked somewhat bare. No cups, no pitchers of water, nor rolls. There weren't enough tables to accommodate all the people that attended, but 2 tables were put up quickly to resolve the situation. There were about 105 people in attendance and only 2 waitresses. We waited a good 20 mins before anyone took our drink order, most of us had coffee. After another 20 mins we received our salads. Then a bowl of gravy was put on the table. After 15 mins mostacholli was brought out, then 10 mins later mashed potatoes and green beans. 10 mins later the meats were brought out, both cold. By that time the gravy was thick and cold. Only one table received soup and when we asked for more buns, we were told they had to thaw some out. I know that the number of people in attendance was too much for 2 waitresses to handle. But the way things were brought out and then cold, was ridiculous. The owner wasn't too kind to the family paying. He was trying to over charge them by 17 people, and he charged them for desserts that weren't served. When the family questioned him he walked away and said he wasn't "dealing" with them. The family is calling everyone in attendance to apologize. They are very embarrassed. I know it wasn't in their control, and the owner charged them full price and also charged 48 for linens on the table. I wouldn't walk in this place again, even if it were the last standing structure on the face of the earth..

I'm not overly impressed with this place. There's not much ambience and the food is average. I had a full order of biscuits & gravy and it came with only 3 biscuits and was way over priced. There's not many other choices in town so I guess that's why they can get away with serving average food.

First time visit on Sunday July 5th. 8 minutes from Manhattan IL. They have been open 5 years now according to waitress. Staff very friendly & attenative. Large portions. had the country skillet brought half home for next morning. Burgers big & tasty with regular non seasoned fries which we like. Amazing soup. Our new go to place!!

Very good! Lunch for 18 after service at Abraham Lincoln. I reserved ahead so they had 2 long tables lined up. They did a nice job serving good food. The full breakfast menu all day is nice as well as I prefer a good breakfast to a big hit or miss lunch. Perfect place for after ALNC. Look no further and relax. This is not a fine dining experience. But it is solid food with something for everyone. We will be back.

After eating at Silver Dollars Restaurant a couple of dozen times, I've decided never to go back. The food is very inconsistent. I've received dinner and lunch carry-out items 8 or 10 times. The catfish and other fish selections, are alright about half the time, other times they are either overdone or undercooked. Last night I had the special, Blackened Catfish, it was prepared medium rare. (My wife had the Skirt Steak and it was cooked medium rare and very tasty). The potatoes were half well done (crispy) and the other half not done. The Chicken Dumpling soup was O.K., other than there was no chicken in either one of the 2 orders. I've complained to management 4 or 5 times during the last 6 months. They offer me another meal, but that's not what I want. It's too bad because the place is only 10 minutes from my house. I would be ashamed to serve some of the food that comes out of the kitchen. Maybe they need to retrain some of their 'cooks' and I use that term 'cooks' loosely. Most of the food is lacking in quality and proper preparation.

A girlfriend had her baby shower here recently. Shower was very nice and our waitress was great, wish I'd got her name. She was very on top of things and very friendly. Food was great as it's ways been. Whatever creAm soup I had was delicious.

I work for a company that shall remain nameless but lets say they have a very large presence in Elwood. We are having work meetings and I'm so happy the "bosses" choose to do it here. We are in the private room all day and they have served us breakfast and lunch and they really now how to take care of us. I'm on lunch now waiting for a delicious meal can't wait.

The food wasn't bad but the service was horrible. We sat down the waitress took drink orders and came back with only 3 of the 6 and didn't return with rest of drinks or take order for over 25 plus minutes I timed after about 10 minutes. While waiting for drinks and order to be taken we watched her behind the counter goofing off. Very unhappy almost left but with older family members so had to stay. Will not be back for a while due to services .

We live in town, and we have been here a few times. Large servings fill me up every time.

While traveling around on our motorcycles we wanted to find a new place to eat. Gave this place a shot! It was good, but not someplace that we would put in our rotation!

Holy crap there is a place to eat in Elwood. Came here for the first time with my mom and sis and was pleasantly surprised. Had the healthy Omlette and hash browns extra crispy. Really good quality and if you live out in Elwood/Manhattan its worth the money.

Good, solid food. Very large menus, especially for breakfast. Service is always great and very friendly. Would recommend for anyone. Breakfast is awesome, good coffee too.

I have a restricted diet and they have a few healthy alternatives that are quite tasty. Blackened salmon and chicken. They also offer Cajun version of those meals. A diet plate typical in diners. Also some nice daily soups.

Food was just Ok. Expensive breakfast. Coffee wasn't included in our meal. $4 for 2 cups and it was bitter and old tasting. I had omelette with fruit and hubby had 3 eggs with pancakes. $24.00. Service was ok. But closest place to veteran cemetery so convenience was nice.

This place is amazing. I've been here many times over the years and I've never been disappointed. Everything they serve is amazing, from breakfast to dinner. I've never left this place not feeling completely satisfied; every trip has been a perfect 5/5. The staff here is wonderful, and the food is just so delicious. Come here and try anything. You won't be disappointed.

Ordered burger, trying to go low carb I let them keep the fries and the bun. I asked for cottage cheese as a replacement for my fries. They charged me 1.79 for 1/4 cup of cottage cheese. When I questioned them upon check out, I said I let you keep the bun and fries and you still want to charge me 1.79 fior that little bit of cottage cheese. He then asked me if I ever go grocery shopping or if I knew the price of cottage cheese. Seriously, .... They are also very high priced for the type of restaurant they are. Been going there for years with my family every week and they just lost my business.

Great people, they were very accommodating (we called ahead & made reservations). We left a memorial service, at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. The distance is convenient, the food is good, great portions for the prices, which are reasonable. My kids enjoyed the free wifi. It has a Denny's like feel to it. Very casual. I would recommend it for casual dining.

I work in the area and have been here many times since they opened. During the first year, the food was above average for a local greasy spoon with daily (apparently) homemade soups. In the last year or so the place has dropped drastically. The food appears to be of a much lesser quality and most of the soups taste like they're either right out of a can or they're so thick that they're inedible. I jokingly call them "cream of cornstarch". The clam chowder is mostly flour and smells like sewage.

About ten of us went to the Silverdollar after a funeral at the Abraham Lincoln Cemetery. They were very accommodating and the food was good. Had a 4 and a 5 year old with us - good place if you have children. About 2 miles from Abraham Lincoln if you are looking for a place to dine after services I would recommend this place.
