Found this little gem because I was looking to complete my Chicago food experience on a day trip to Chicago. Had deep dish for lunch and finished the say off with Italian beef/sausage combo for dinner! By the time I got here at 9pm and was surprised because there was still a line going out the door which was a good sign for how good the food is! Their service is fast and efficient and takes about a minute per customer, and don't forget that it's cash only! I got the combo sausage and Italian beef which was about $5 bucks after adding in hot peppers and tried the tamale and Italian ice as well (1.40) each. The food is definitely worth it for the price although I'm not sure I'd recommend the tamale. The tamale is unlike any tamale I've had before and has a really strong curry flavor and is quite salty as well. The Italian beef and sausage is pretty good although I thought it was a little on the dry side! My fault for not getting the sandwich dipped I suppose but the flavors of the beef and sausage are a perfect complement to the bread although the hot peppers can be pretty salty. The Italian ice was delectable and the perfect amount of lemony and sugary goodness. It was very light and was very good with the Italian beef!
My father took me here when I was younger and the line was insane as it is today. Great beef, combo, fries, and oh! the Italian ice, so good. Took my boyfriend here once and he fell in love with the beef, now he's happy to make the trip there. Carry cash they do not take debit/credit. Word of advice do not eat by garbage cans you'll get bees swarming you (bad mistake last time). Enjoy!
Johnnie's is simply one of the best places in Chicago for beef, sausage, and fries. I love the combo. A legend and classic. The line out the door will tell more than I ever could. See you next time...tk

Great Family atmosphere. Very Inexpensive, nothing over $6.00. Super fast service. Great outdoor seating. Delivers FOR FREE, no delivery charge before 3pm (For Lunch). Great Food.
Have been here a few times. Sub's are pretty good. My son went there a couple of weeks ago to get carry out for us. When he got back 2 of the 3 beef sandwiches had cheese and mayo only. No meat. He goes back and they were closed. Don't know about you but $5 for a cheese sandwich is expensive. He ended up having to go some where else for sandwiches. He went back the next day with the cheese sandwiches explaining he asked for 3 beef sub's 2 with only cheese. He's ordered that way before meaning no lettuce or tomato or onion. They gave him a hard time and said it was his fault. They owner finally gave him his money flinging it at him. We will never go back. There was no reason to be treated that way.
We love this place! Free lunch delivery makes me want to order from here every day! The subs are delicious. Our favorites are the Italian and the Meatball. The soup is always pretty great and the desserts are yummy. We love the Tiramisu and the Italian Ices are my kids' favorites. The lasagna is not amazing, but I wouldn't go here for it anyway, we just happened to order it for a child one time. The ravioli is good though. The chips and a drink for $1 extra? Such a deal! It's a very reasonable place...the most reasonable around, actually. We love it and would definitely miss it if we ever move!

I've driven past this place hundreds of times but finally decided to stop in for lunch the other day. It's a classic Chicago hot dog joint. I really dug it. I got 2 hot dogs and fries, and was on my way. They use Red Hot Chicago hot dogs and I thought they were awesome. I will definitely be back again soon! The only thing that kept me from giving 5 stars is that they don't have fresh cut fries and instead use frozen ones.
A great Chicago Style dog. This hot dog stand is a throwback. The hot dogs are excellent. He serves Red Hot Chicago dogs, which have a good taste and a nice snap. Cucumber, tomato, onion, pickle, peppers, relish and celery salt. The deep fried polish sausage is a delight. The fries are well cooked, good, and not greasy. The service is friendly and the owner is almost always the one serving you. My 4 year old son and I love to come here. There are several outside tables with umbrellas. no frou-frou, no frills, just the dog please
Great place to get traditional Chicago fare. Kevin the owner is a great guy that loves his customers. Can't go wrong with the red hot Chicago hot dogs dressed the traditional Chicago way. A must have if your in the area.

A vast selection of craft beer and some damn good food! I couldn't be happier to finally have a place like this in the neighborhood. We tried the Amish Chips, delicious. The Bison Hothouse burger, phenomenal! The homemade Guacamole...average. My only real issue is that the prices are a bit high. $11.00 for a bottle of Delirium is insane, $15.00 is a lot for an average sized burger and small side even if it is a bison burger. This will be a once in a while place rather than a regular place thanks to the prices alone.
In it for the beer. If you know your game then this is right in the middle. Many flagship beers to go around, nothing you cant pick up near by yourself for a bit less then $6 a bottle. The food was menu is an ok layout with different burgers and some a la carte items, not much to eat if you want to snack on something without forking over $10. Quick bite and a beer midday just about sums up its use. C+
During a Friday lunch break, five of us visited Declan's for lunch and had some great burgers, reasonably priced craft beer and enjoyed super-friendly service. It's a bit of a drive from our work place but we all agreed it was worth it. We'll be back!

pizza is good fair priced not the best in the area but will get from time to time.
My go to pizza place in Oak Park area. Our family orders once a week. The double dough pizza is great. A very tasty dough Half way between thin and deep dish. Sauce is also good. Fine variety of toppings. Good delivery or pick up (ready in 25 minutes most times. Stay away from the double decker pie. It's two pizzas on top of each other. Not stuffed. Just weird and messy.
nothing special. i may try the thin crust before i pass final judgment. the "stuffed" pizza was a major disappointment. I read a review proclaiming "the best pizza anywhere near Oak Park" don't get out much do you?

Elmcrest Banquets by Biancalana

7370 W Grand Ave
Elmwood Park, 60707
Reviews:
This past weekend I returned to Elmcrest for the first time since we had our wedding reception here 9 years ago. We were attending our friend's baptism party. It didn't take long from the moment that I walked in to remember why we picked this place for our wedding banquet. The spacious front entrance, the beautiful carpeting and clean floors. The elegant dining room does not have the gaudy, bejeweled chandeliers you see at other banquet halls. The locals still call it Biancalana's, which was the name of the original restaurant about 15 years ago. It got torn down and replaced by the Elmcrest, though the Biancalana family continues to own it. While they can serve meals family style, our luncheon happened to be served by the plate. The meal began with a fresh-baked loaf of bread, which was so good it made it hard to take just 1. People at my table passed the bread around repeatedly. I took 3 or 4 pieces. Italians really know good bread. And the softened butter was extruded into the shape of flower blossoms on leaves. Their salad was decent with enough ranch dressing piled on. Iceberg lettuce, tomato wedges and some cucumber slices don't impress me. However, I loved their minestrone with noodles. Our waiter working the table was pretty reliable, bringing us drinks and anything else we needed promptly. One complaint on the drinks. The Coke and Diet Coke are not really Coke. We're thinking it had to be some knockoff brand, because the flavor was not quite right. On to the main course... Their chicken breast with mushrooms was very good. Their roast beef, which was served family style on a platter, did not attract much interest from others at my table. That just left me more to enjoy. The roast beef slices really were the highlight of the entire meal. Excellent texture, not chewy or veiny at all. I passed up some of the chicken to have more of it. Best of all, at the end of the meal, they allowed us to take it home too. I got to enjoy the leftover roast beef for dinner the next 2 days. Valet parking across the street and curbside service in front of the restaurant make parking a breeze. And contrary to the review by Emily C from last year, there is no smoking here anymore.
I just ordered outside catering from Biancalana for a baby shower that I threw yesterday. I had ordered for 50 people though I had expected 80 people for the event. To my surprise, about 90 actually attended. However, I had also ordered outside food from other locations, and some guests had brought in their own dishes. I had ordered the basic outside catering which came up to about $7/person, not including tax. This included 2 choices of entrees, 2 choices of sides, rolls, garden salad, utensils, napkins, serving spoons, and plates. We ordered Italian beef, baked ham, roasted potatoes, and mixed veggies. People loved the food. They kept commenting about it throughout the event. By the end of the party, there were tons of leftovers. Probably enough to feed another 50 people! I would definitely order from Biancalana again.
For the best time ever... 1) Book at room at Elmcrest for your big, fat, italian wedding shower (and eat damned decent italian food in a charmingly cheesy room). 2) Add about one hundred italian women. 3) Talk with your hands all night. I'll never have that much fun again.

Baciami Pizzeria & Bar

18 W Conti Pkwy

Reviews:
I used to love you, Baciami. Your out of the way location, your mobbed up clientele, your waitresses with Brooklyn accents...you were almost charming in a way. But let's remember that I come to you to eat, and the food you offer is no longer worth the trip. When I order the baked ravioli, I expect to actually be able to see it -- but seeing how it was blanketed in what was easily 2-inch thick cheese, i couldn't...it was a plate of goo. I am usually in the "can't get enough" category of cheese lovers but come on...what are you hiding under there? Oh that's right...the lack of flavor. I'll miss you but I need to move on.
I liked the circle street area that its located on, since it seems to keep this place hidden from outsiders. Inside was dark but, not uninviting. The bar area seemed to be populated by locals while the dining area was completely deserted. I ordered a small margherita style thin crust for $9.50. I was a tad bit uncomfortable using their bathrooms since there wasn't on the door signifying Mens or Women and I had an unpleasant feeling that I would be in the wrong one. Pizza wasn't bad. Tomatoes were in diced fashion. The olive oil had a lot of flavor, which made it overall taste pretty good.
ordered a stuffed pizza from here the other night. We had a sausage and ricotta stuffed pizza. Baciami stuffed pizza is just as good cold as it is when it comes fresh out of the oven. We'll order from here again, but may not dine in as of yet.

Happy Wok Asian Corner

Reviews:
Elmwood Park , Illinois ( Chicago Suburb ) I invited a friend to lunch a few months back and he suggested this restaurant as it is close to his place of employment. It is one of the places where you pay first and then the food is brought to your table. I had the Orange Chicken with rice and egg roll. The dish was sooo good that I recently called up my friend and asked if he would be interested in having lunch again at the same Asian restaurant. Of course he said yes. So we returned and ordered our favorite dish. Mongolian Beef for my friend and the Orange Chicken & rice with egg roll for me. Once again the food was delicious. The restaurant is unique in that they offer Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Thai dishes on their menu. How often do you see that ??? Next time , and there will be a next time , I will have to branch out and maybe try the Japanese or Thai selections from the menu. Maybe even a Koren dish if they have pul Gogi or yakimondo. All in all I must say the restaurant is clean, the food excellent, and the service prompt. If in the area, do stop in, you will not be disappointed. As a foot note, the food is reasonably priced as well. Also, FREE parking in the lot.
One of few Chinese restaurants out of Chinatown that you can actually get Chinese broccoli and the thick rice noodles.
Today will be my second time ordering from here, and i love it the food is amazing and so clean this place will definitely be my spot for asian food. its pricey kinda but its soo worth it i refereed a couple of friends and they enjoy it too.

I tried this place out a while back and was pleasantly surprised. The place is located in the strip mall between GameStop and WingStop so you can't have real high hopes. It kind of reminds me of a cross between Five Guys, with a twist of hole in the wall decor. Needless to say, I've come here several times now. They give pretty big portions with a low price. Recommendation: Homemade guacamole. Although, fair warning, sometimes it comes straight out of the fridge and can be super cold!
A carne asada burrito and medium soda - $8.15. Neither expensive or cheap. It could have had a little more meat on it, but overall, it tasted really good. The downside though is that they gave me cheap plastic silverware when I dined at the store, so cutting the burrito up got kind of messy. I opted to eat the other half with my hands only, that got kind of messy too as I had added some of their sauce (which squirts all over the place if full) and the sauce oozed a bit. I'd go back - it was pretty good, but I'm sure there are better not too far away.
This place is great! We go here about once a week and I really enjoy their chorizo sopes and my husband always gets the steak nachos. I also cannot leave here without a Horchata-it's great! I do wish their steak had more seasoning which is my only complaint. It's a great, local, affordable quick place to get Mexican. The staff is very friendly (and you always see the same few people which makes it nice). I like to call ahead and orders are usually always ready within 15 minutes but they are very quick if you just go in.
