Love this place! So much better than any national chain. Everything is made fresh on site and not brought on frozen. My kids love when I walk in with a box of donuts. Staff is great, friendly and love their customers.

I'm so happy that this place is so close to the house! Country Donuts is our donut breakfast go-to and they have the best donuts in the area, hands-down! I have yet to be disappointed by a single donut and each one is amazing. I might be pretty plain-Jane about it, but my favorites are the sugar raised and honey dipped. Both SO good. The seasonal apple cider and pumpkin and great options too. The only other thing I've ordered here besides donuts is the coffee. I'm particular to DD (because America runs on it, of course) but the coffee here is good too.

This whole donut discovery is really adding to my waistline. It's a love hate relationship. My co-worker brought some donuts (and when I say some I mean 6 dozen) from here into work the other morning. They had all different seasonal flavors - pumpkin, maple, apple cider, and cinnamon spice. The ones that I tasted were all really good- moist, flavorful, and filling. I have not been to the actual location, but I can vouch for the donuts, and they are delicious!

LOVE COUNTRY DONUTS! Their drive thru is always so fast even when I am running late I can stop for my coffee. Their coffee is always bold and delicious, very consistent. Every pastry I have tried from here was amazing. Very fresh. One more star if they carried Gluten Free products. :)

Happened upon this place while out and about on Easter. Big selection. Fresh and tasty! The German chocolate donut was insane and something that I had dreams about!

This place used to be down the street from my house but they have since moved to Elgin which was sad, but this place is so darn good that I will take the drive to Elgin from Schaumburg just to have some donuts.. The brownies are one of my favorite treats, literally made with love and care. The donuts are absolutely AMAZING. I love the classic ring with chocolate frosting and sprinkles. This place cannot be beaten, try it !!

Love this place. Conveniently located. Very reasonably priced. Delicious donuts and muffins. Very friendly and efficient staff.

Best donuts ever. I'm not even a donut person, but these, I'd order more than one. Cider donuts, pumpkin donuts, and a coconut one (can't remember the name). The best!

Went there yesterday, i always frequent the Crystal Lake one, but was in the area and decided to stop by here. They are not as good as the one in Crystal lake, there was barely any glaze on the french curlers, the long John's were very messy and the angel cream ones were smashed..maybe it was just a bad baking day, but i will stick with the one in Crystal lake, they are far better!

This was my first time ever to a Country Donuts. I can say honestly that I will be back! Honestly though, it is hard to mess up donuts, although I'm sure it can be done. The minute you walk in the smell of flour, sugar and a host of other things engulfs your nostrils. Standing in front of the case of donuts with such enticing choices as an apple fritter, chocolate cake donut with coconut shavings or a apple cider donut is enough to make anyone want to make their lunch out of donuts. The staff was super friendly. I ordered a half dozen donut holes in variety of flavors from chocolate glaze to powdered sugar. All were amazing, with the chocolate being my favorite. My husband tried their croissant breakfast sandwich and was very pleased with it. Great job guys, we'll be back.

These are the best donuts I have ever had! The staff is really sweet! I would definitely recommend country donuts!

Awesome donuts and great friendly service! I like how the interior has an old fashioned feel with the red padded stools at the counter. My wife and I ordered a Honey Dip, Cinnamon, German Chocolate, Mint Chocolate, and Pineapple donuts. All of them were delicious! Very pleased with our experience here.

  • David M.

Very good donuts fresh and delicious. Will definitely be back again for the scones. The coffee however was a bit weak but the donuts more than make up for it

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the dough it's here. I came mid morning, about 11:30 and some were still being made fresh. The pumpkin flavored was particularly good, and my reason for stopping in. It was flavorful without being overwhelming, and still warm. The girl at the counter was a bit scatter brained but she was young and possibly new so no harm done. They were out of old-fashioned and not making any more so that was a bummer but overall I was happy with my selection.

In the last two years of travel our family has yet to find a donut so to top this one. It is the standard we hold to every other donut shop. It's THAT good. Our favorites? Chocolate cream filled, Apple n spice, buttercrunch and pumpkin when it's in season!

Awesome! Great little find. Fabulous, from scratch donuts, & friendly staff. Superb variety. Highly recommend, you will not be disappointed!

I have been to the Crystal Lake location, but since I pass this one on my way to work every day, I decided to check out the original. It's definitely bigger, and has a more accommodating seating area inside than the other location. What I appreciate about both is that you can see where the donuts are being made, and there is no question that what you are buying is fresh. These are hands down the best donuts in the area, and they easily beat out Dunkin or any of the other larger competitors. Service was fast in the morning, even with several people in line ahead of me. In all, whether I'm at the Crystal Lake location or this one, these are easily my favorite donuts ever. Enjoy!

These donuts are to die for; fresh, well made, delicious and such a great variety. I don't really like donuts but this place got me looked; the French donuts are the best, in my opinion.

I used to ONLY want donuts from Dunkin in the past. And then this Country Donuts location opened right down the street from us. Now, our first time in was more of a convenience thing. But we immediately became hooked and I haven't had a Dunkin donut in FOREVER. We've grabbed donuts here often. And keep your eyes out on your money mailer coupon envelopes and such -- they often have coupons so you can get your delicious treats and save yourself some dough. Our favorites are the chocolate iced bavarian cream. Absolutely TO DIE FOR. My sister doesn't live in the area, but whenever she comes out to visit, her and her daughter make it a point to stop in and grab a dozen to take home.

  • Keith P.

Definitely the place to go for donuts if you're remotely close! The sour creme fry cakes are amazing. Highly recommend those and the cranberry scones. The other lesser known fact are the paczkis offered once a year! Recommend the apricot!

What?? How have I not written a review for Country Donuts yet?! ::hangs head in shame:: My husband and I get donut holes from here at LEAST once per week, and we don't really even live around here. We just make excuses to be in the area so we can nom on some of the yummy deliciousness! I personally love their seasonal pumpkin and apple cider donuts (both sugared and glazed are fabulous in both of these varieties), but the real standout are the little donut holes. They are fresh on the outside, soft in the middle, and have a lot of "topping" on the outside. My favorite of these is the cinnamon sugar ones! The staff is really friendly and accommodating--and don't forget to drop some dough (eh, get it??) in the tip jar :)

  • Heidi F.

Our kids LOVE this place! They think the counter is the best place to sit and have their donuts. They attended pre-school behind the place and would comment ALL the time, "Who puts a donut store behind a school? It's like they are trying to torcher us kids and the poor kids who live by here!" - too funny.

    (4)
  • Damon C.

Awesome donuts. Check for coupons in the mail. Great staff. Would advise against eating there every day it would probably kill you but for the occasional indulgence. Delicious.

  • Robin Z.

they have some GOOD ASS donuts.....try them....you will be hooked

  • Cory C.

Great place super clean! Hands down the best staff super friendly and fun. Love coming here with my daughters, they love sitting at the counter. Donuts are the best in a 25 mile radius. You can also watch them make the donuts!

  • Stef M.

I love the clean feel of this place. Long line, fast service on Sundays. They have a drive though too. Cheap eats, a bowl of chili and a buttered bagel costs less than 3 bucks. Great place for quick bite. Love the counter seating.

Hands down, this is the best place to get donuts in the state of Illinois. I never would've stop in if it wasn't for the recommendation of my dog's trainer. She said they had good donuts. So having an hour to kill I made the trip inside. The first donut and I was hooked. Thanks to my unruly dog, I found the ultimate donut shop. The one downfall: getting into the place can be a bitch but completely well worth it. Mmm, the fall season brings the apple cider and pumpkin spice donuts which are delicious. I just tried a German chocolate donut and I almost cried. The mint chips are outstanding as well. It's so hard to get just 1 dozen because all the flavors are yummy. Definitely do yourself a favor and stop in. They run a little higher than Dunkin but they're so much fresher and you can taste the difference. This is my favorite donut stop.

Oh, Country Donuts, I am so glad you are in the exact opposite direction on Lake Street I need to drive to work. Because if you were on my daily route I'd be having a donut for breakfast every day and thus weigh fifty pounds more. We have sampled just about all their donuts and I have not been disappointed by a one. My favorites are the classic Honeydipped (you mere mortals may refer to this as a Plain Glazed), the Sour Cream cake donut, the Red Velvet cake donut and, if I'm feeling extra naughty, the Toasted Coconut raised donut (heated just a bit for extra to-die-for-ness). We also recently popped in for a light lunch of soup, bagel and a donut, of course. I had the Italian Wedding Soup and hubby had the Chili, both quite delicious. The bagels are good, too. Not a huge variety but then again they aren't called Country Bagels, so get over it. And they aren't kidding when they say they have the best coffee. I'll take them over Dunkin' any day.

I never used to care for donuts, but I guess I just hadn't found the right place to get them. My husband and I moved to Elgin a year and a half ago and we live just down the road from Country Donuts. It is so tempting to go there every day, but we are good and only treat ourselves about every 2 weeks. I love every donut I have tried from here, but my personal favorites are the blueberry cake, red velvet cake, honey dip, and long johns. My husband usually goes for the Bavarian crème or the chocolate. I've even tried doing the little box of day old donuts and as long as you eat them within a day or two they are still really good. I always watch out for their coupons because you can get a dozen donuts for about $6. I still want to try their chili and now that I've seen other people say it is good I will have to have some next time I go.

    (5)
  • Damian M.

It is a very nice place. It is clean and free of clutter. The employees are very nice. I will definitely be coming back to get some delicious donuts from here instead of Duncan donuts

    (5)
  • Dave S.

The best donuts I have ever eaten. Drive through staff very friendly and efficient.

  • Lily B.

Best donuts and french vanilla. Drive through not so good at least today. Took way to long to attempt to place an order, so i left.

  • Bradley S.

Can I have another star? This place deserves 6 stars! So yummy! Staff is always nice and friendly. My favorite is the homecut, so much flavor for a basic plain donut. Open 24 hours. The shop is clean and has a great sit down counter with free wifi.

    (5)
  • Michael D.

I pass three dunkin donuts to get there, and I'd pass 37 if I had to. Super good, and cheap! Always have coupons for $5.99 for a dozen?! That's crazy talk! I get all the coconut donuts and my wife loves the Cinnamon sugar donut holes. Must agree that going west on 20 and not having an entrance is ridiculous!!!! I imagine over time they may widen the road and correct it, but I'll continue going.

    (5)
  • Haley N.

This place has always been clean & the people have been friendly whenever we have gone in. Ya gotta love it. :) now if only they could make the donuts less bad for us but keep them super tasty! :)

  • K. M.

I absolutely love Original Country Donuts! I changed the way I drive to work in the morning so I would not stop every morning and grab a donut. My only complaint is if you are coming from the North on 20 it is so inconvenient to pull in. You have to turn by the bank and pretty much circle back around but it is worth the inconvenience. The donuts are so delicious. You can tell you are not buying some mass produced donut the second you bite into one. If you are lucky you can even catch them making them through a window into the back room. So much fun and the kids enjoy watching them make the donuts. I recommend the apple cider donuts and chocolate covered long johns. Yum!!

  • Reba L.

YUMMY DONUTS and GREAT COFFEE...i try to stop here every so often and treat myself...they also have great coupons all over!!

  • Sarah B.

My date and I had the glazed red velvet donuts. I have no idea what everyone is carrying on about how amazing these donuts are. They are tasteless, dry, and definitely not red velvet. Maybe I had a bad batch or something. How did this place get 5 stars unless its the owner's friends and family writing the reviews? I'll stick with Starbucks "old-fashioned donuts". Now, THOSE are moist and yummy.

I think I can proudly say that I've been to all of the Country Donuts in the Chicagoland area. There is the Schaumburg location, which now calls itself "County" donuts, I believe. Then, there is the actual "original" located in Crystal Lake. I love them all. I especially enjoy their mint chocolate chip donuts. Sometimes I have friends who visit me at school bring a half dozen or so from home. Don't judge me. I usually share them with those who have never experienced the goodness. All of the locations have a retro pre-fabricated feel, with tile floors and permanent stools at the counter. I chose to review this relatively new location based on its cleanliness and quick service. Complete with a drive-through, this donut shop meets all my expectations for a quality donut shop.

Forget about "What would you do for a Klondike bar?" and ask me what I'd do for some Country Donuts! The strawberry donuts are out of this world amazing. I was also very impressed by the mint chocolate cake donut. Stop by and pick some up. You won't be disappointed.

  • kevin c.

You've never lived until you've tasted a glazed blueberry cake doughnut from Country Dounuts. Trust me, you've been dead for X amount of years. This doughnut is almost good enough for me to drive an hour out of the city to the boonies that is known as Elgin, IL. They've also got some other great doughnuts (eg. Honeydew - glazed cake, Double Chocolate - choc cake with choc frosting, Bavarian, German Chocolate, etc). But my personal favorite is def-def-definitely the glazed blueberry cake doughnut. Mmmm ... so good! And so cheap! Normally a dozen is $6.95 or something. But we scored a buy one dozen, get a dozen free! 24 doughnuts for seven bucks, heck yeah!!

Look no further for great donuts! They are always fresh, big and tasty. I don't think they do many other bakery type things, but if coffee and donuts is what your after, you can't go wrong here. They always have great coupons available on their website so you can usually pick up a dozen for about $5! Even without the coupons, they are still very reasonably priced. Like that they have a drive up window so you can grad a couple when you're passing by. The only problem, which they have partially solved, is that you can't turn left into the parking lot if you're west bound on Rt 20, you've got to go down to the next corner and come back to it on a frontage road kind of thing. Then pulling out, you've got to be sure to exit the right place because you can only go one way on the exit too.

Really great doughnuts. Busy, friendly, good tasting donuts. The apple fritter was pretty amazing.

  • Nicole N.

These doughnuts are moist, rich, and flavorful! They also always send coupons in the mail. The coffee is also always hot and fresh. A nice addition to West Elgin!

  • PA S.

I stop here whenever I work in Elgin. Doughnuts are made fresh everyday. They tend to be more expensive than chains, but that is well worth it. Menu often includes seasonal selections. Very friendly staff, with quick service. Go out of your way to get these doughnuts.

Fantastic donuts and variety, great friendly service, but disappointing coffee the day I stopped by. But I'll try their coffee again to see if it's any different next time.

I'm normally a Dunkin Donuts person, but one day I decided to give this place a try based on the reviews....and I'm glad I did. The donuts here are so much better than Dunkin. They are soft and moist and don't leave that weird taste in your mouth that some donuts from Dunkin do. I got an assortment of donuts and liked all of them. The Mint Chocolate Chip, the Honeydew, the Strawberry, even the Old Fashioned was amazing. Hands down this place make amazing donuts and worth the trip out to get them.

I grew up on Dunkin Donuts and when my husband said to me "you'll never eat at a Dunkin Donuts again after you've gone to Country Donuts". I snickered and blew it off until he got my attention with "they have Apple Cider donuts!" I LOVE apple cider donuts and ones that have cinnamon sugar (with a big cold glass of apple cider), oh yum! Their donuts are ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS fresh. The staff is really friendly and remember you. It is the watering hole in western Elgin and everyone goes there. My only complaint (until just recently) is that you can't turn left into their parking lot, they fixed that by adding a driveway that goes to bank on the corner and to the Church (drive down to Nesler Rd and turn left if you're coming west bound on US 20 and turn at the Church parking lot, you'll find your way around. Drive around the back of the strip mall and they have a drive through. Dont forget to get a dozen (or two). People in this area know the name and will mob you for the donuts. Seriously!

  • Robin C.

I just had the best apple fritter that I've ever had in my whole life. It was crispy on the outside, fluffy and light on the inside and actually had APPLE inside! I was used to doughy, chewy fritters with few pieces of apple inside, so this was a real surprise and a treat to take a bite, find little pieces of apple in the dough and then to bite into a center filled with apple pie filling. DELISH!!! Kudos to the Bakers :-)

  • SANDRA D.

Seriously, the best donuts I have ever had! I can't recommend this place highly enough. Their donuts are very fresh, bigger than Dunkin, lower priced, and most importantly ... delectable! The honey dipped (glazed yeast donuts) absolutely blow away Krispy Kreme in my opinion -- I always thought KK had too high of a glaze-to-donut ratio and were too sweet. I love their apple cider donuts, which they make year-round (yay!) and they always have peanut donuts in stock (most DD don't even carry anymore). Oh, and their cinnamon rolls and apple fritters are to die for. Wish my waistline could handle me going there more often. Love this place ... if you haven't tried yet, you should! I moved fairly far away but still go out of my way to hit their drive-thru for the occasional treat.

  • Michael J.

This place is dangerously close to my house and I am a frequent visitor. They have the best apple cider donuts all year around. Its very hard for me not to buy at least two baked goods for myself every time I go in. The best part of this place is their warm and friendly staff. They treat you like family and you always feel welcome. This is the best addition to west Elgin in a long time.

    (5)
  • Kevin A.

They just had a Dunken move up the street. That's what you need to look for as you drive by and go to Original Country Donuts. The best.

Very easy place to like. Old fashioned counter service. Cute friendly wait staff. Appreciated!

I love donuts, and country donuts is my favorite place to get them! We always get a chosen it half mixed because everything is perfect. I personally love the traditional cake donuts, apple cider donuts, and pumpkin in the fall. Conveniently open 24 hours so you can get something whenever you would like :) A must try in the Elgin area.

  • Erik H.

The former owners of Country Donuts in Crystal Lake and County Donuts in Schaumburg (both of which were sold) have set up shop in their newest location in Elgin. To have opened three donut shops, sold two of them and have all of them still be open (in THIS economy *faints*) is an impressive feat; do the donuts of the most recent incarnation of their dynasty hold up to scrutiny? Yes, yes, yes. To have such a fresh, delicious donut at midnight is the ultimate test and Country passed it beautifully. Their chocolate cake donut, my personal favorite, is fudgey, crumbly and just wonderful while their eclair was moist and creamy and not overly sugary. I'm pretty sure my life will be complete if I were to have a fresh-baked apple cider donut at 6am, but that would involve a drive out to the middle of nowhere and that's just not going to happen. Oh who am I kidding, yes it is.

    (5)
  • Laura C.

Oh Wow! Love, Love, Love Original Country Donuts. Although, it is not easy to get to, I will go out of my way to get the donut holes. They are amazing! They also have cider and pumpkin donuts right now so race over there. You will not be disappointed. I think I will be going in the morning.

    (5)
  • Edward M.

Wow I haven't had these since they moved out of Schaumburg, I happened to drive by on the way to a clients and picked up a dozen on the way home. I love yeast donuts over cake donuts but I got a variety of them to share with the family and they were all great! I even loved that even though they sat a few days since we were all gone a lot over the weekend, they did not have the frosting melt too badly. They only dribbled a bit, unlike some donuts where they just ooze off and it's a nasty lump of sugar on the box. It's 7.25 for a dozen. They also seemed to have pumpkin cider or something but I didn't grab any. The service at the counter was also great and they were very nice :)

    (5)
  • Nichole W.

I have always been a huge Dunkin' fan due to the coffee. Although their coffee doesn't compare to Dunkin', their doughnuts blow Dunkin' out of the water. Remember when doughnuts didn't leave a plastic film in your mouth and actually melted? Original Country Donuts are fresh, soft and very flavorful. We really enjoyed all of the options and flavors. They are made with real sugar, not whatever Dunkin' is using. If you are craving a doughnut, this is your place.

Excellent donuts and coffee. Drive-thru is a plus.
