This is one of the best wedding venues in the Chicagoland area for so many reasons. I believe the root of this is the fantastic owners/event coordinators. It's very apparent that they truly care about people and the quality of their business. They are incredibly friendly, welcoming and helpful people. The venue itself really reflects that personality. It is unique, with tons of space and beautiful light. The decor is beautiful, and it's obvious that the owners put a lot of thought and care into the renovation of the space. It's classy, but rustic, and it has so much potential to add your own touches. They even have beautiful touches you can rent, like candles, vintage wine crates, reclaimed wood table numbers, etc. It's not the cheap, ugly stuff that most venues offer. The property at Fishermen's Inn is huge, and there are options for outdoor ceremony locations or indoor. A lot of venues charge extra if you planned an outdoor ceremony, then have to move it indoors due to weather. Not Fishermen's Inn! You'll pay the same price either way. Such a great perk! I also like the fact that they only host one wedding at a time. So you get the entire place for your party. FYI, I have not personally hosted a wedding there, but I'm in the wedding industry, so I am coming from a behind-the-scenes perspective. I really think you'll be pleased with Fishermen's Inn. I don't say that about most places, and I've worked with MANY. This place really stands out. I hope this helps you with your wedding plans! :)

New management - let's see how it goes. But love the trout. After decades of the same management/ownership, that has changed. The jury is out Fishermen's Inn now. It's still a large, busy place in a neat setting - a barn by fishing ponds. They raise their own trout, so that's a fresh delicacy year round. Other entrees are the standard variety of steaks, fish, and way too many offerings to be fresh all the time. Big portions, boring salads, overcooked vegetables. No chef here, just cooks. Your meal will be fine, just not outstanding. Service is good, fresh bread is good, the setting is very pleasant. If you have a group, maybe 6-12, see if you can get the table in the silo. Not too many people have their dinner in silos.

This is as good as it gets for a wedding venue- Chicagoland or otherwise! The place has been completely renovated with great taste and an eye for quality and though its very upscale, its also very comfortable and not stuffy at all. The grounds are spectacular and they seem to be able to move from outside to inside at the slightest drop of rain (obviously they have some practice at this). We just attended a spectacular wedding this past weekend there. The view inside the the "chapel room" was simply stunning and the food was exceptional including the best wedding soup our table had ever had- by a mile!!! Service was great as well. You simply can't beat this venue. The owner's have obviously poured their hearts and souls into this property and it really shows!!! Make sure you give it a look if you are considering a wedding or event! You won't be disappointed!

Labor day marks the unofficial end of Summer. As well as the unofficial end of wedding season. Luckily for me, I got to squeeze one more in before the season's end. The reception was held at the Fishermen's Inn in Elburn, Illinois. It is directly off of Route 47. The last time I was at this place, I was 15, and it was my sophomore year of high school. I was riding in the back seat of my friend's car with his Dad driving me, him, and our two dates around. It just so happened that it was also my friend's cousin that I took to the dance. Tangent! Back to the story. So, the Fishermen's Inn is a great place to go if you live in the area. It's a good place to hold a wedding reception. The staff is alright, and the food was serviceable. The grounds are really what make this place wonderful, rolling hills, ponds, a water mill, swans! Ridiculous. It doesn't hurt when there's an open bar either. They have a restaurant that is reasonably upscale. You could get away with dining hear in your golfing gear though. Would I make a special trip out here? No, I wouldn't. If I'm attending a high school in a small town with no better options and my dad's friend is driving, yes, yes I would. This is one of those places in my life where I thought, I'll never come back here again, to find myself back there ten years later.

If you check their website ( fishermensinn.com ) you'll be told they don't plan to re-open. RATS, where will I go for my birthday dinner, now? They had the freshest fish this side of Boston! Their prices were reasonable and the setting was submlime. Glad I got there, though. Sorry we all didn't go more often!

The Rainbow trout, that is brought in from the scenic pond behind the restaurant, is what the fuss is all about here....and it was pretty damn good. However, we had a party of 14 and although the service was outstanding they missed some of the good points that would have made this place a 4 or 5 star restaurant. For instance, the twice baked potato, by the time it got to me was almost stale and cool. So was someone's lamb. However, it really is a beautiful place to watch the swans in the distance and the sun casting a glow as it says goodnight for the evening.

A family favorite for years. The Fisherman's Inn in Elburn, IL is delicious, elegant and friendly. This is one restaurant we go back to constantly when we are searching for a really nice meal. When looking for a nicer dinner or someplace to go for a celebration (birthdays, anniversaries, graduation?) this is it. I say for a special occasion because it is a bit on the pricier side. The staff is friendly and efficient. They handle banquets as well. Our family has held company Christmas parties there for about 10 years and we have always been pleased. The environment is very fun for young and old. There is even a Captain's Table in the silo you can reserve for larger dinner parties -- that was lots of fun! You may walk the grounds on the paths and also feed the fish in the stocked ponds. Feel free to check out the web site for a bit of history on the ponds, the barn the restaurant is in and for directions: fishermens-inn.com

Way out in the boonies there's this quaint place away from the strip malls. A popular wedding destination for local folks because of it's neatly manicured ponds, gardens, and banquet facilities. Anywhere in the main dining room will give you a great vista of the gardens. But what's great about the restaurant part is the trout. The trout is farm raised right out of their own streams. The streams are part of a natural spring that run on the property. You can actually go feed the trout if you like by taking a stroll on the gardens and getting the food from the gumball machines adjacent to the streams. But there is nothing better than fresh trout filleted at your table. With a bit of butter it's just a melt in your mouth experience. Also of worthy note is to get their house made blue cheese dressing for your salad. A thick concoction with generous chunks of blue cheese. It's definitely worth the extra charge.
