I love this place! I live in Phoenix now but I'm moving back to the area in about a month and can't wait to start coming here again. I used to come here all the time back in high school and I've been a few times since then when I've been home. It's got an eclectic atmosphere. Most of the workers and patrons are the indie, artsy type - it's kind of a hub for that type which is great to have in the area because there's not anything else like it around. This is a WONDERFUL and REFRESHING change from the chain restaurants on Keller. If you're driving through on the interstate, consider driving the extra mile or two to come here and get a unique experience and support local business! Being a vegetarian, it's hard to find good eating options in Effingham. It's very much a meat and potatoes town. Joe Sipper's has several vegetarian options. I recommend the herbivorian wrap. Their hummus is delicious but most of all their black bean salsa is AMAZING. They have local art hanging and local musicians come in to perform on certain days of the week. Can't say enough for how great this place has been for Effingham. PS. If you're driving south on 57 consider stopping in the Newman and Camden cafe (Herrin) or the Annex (Herrin) a few hours down the road. Similar atmospheres. Same size town as Effingham, same story. Show local gems some love!

My favorite local restaurant/coffee shop. I'm crazy about the iced toddys, blueberry muffins, breakfast wraps, and salads. Its a great place to meet a colleague or friend for lunch as well. Free wifi, interesting art, and fun furniture makes the place inviting as well.

I was sorry to see they no longer had the "Effing Ham" sandwich. But! They did not disappoint with the chipotle chicken salad and a delicious New Mexico-style green chile stew. The coffee is great and they even had a Chemex pot I was looking for for a friend of mine.

Possibly my first coffee shop experience in high school, didn't know i had to toast my own bagel; not exactly a fan in the beginning. Then I came back in the midst of my major tea obsession and tried their tea (Iron Goddess, something of the sort). It's an Oolong tea and it's divine. I live in San Diego now and I still have my mother ship a bag of the loose leaves out here every few months. Also a plus if you have a deviant boyfriend/friend/etc who goes to court often, it's just a little walk :)

A quaint, eclectic place to eat and drink. I love the santa fe wrap and the extreme peach smoothie is fantastic! My daughter had a pb&j and the sunbutter used on the sandwich took the pb&j to a whole new level...I just might order it for myself next time! I'm looking forward to trying their soups...I've heard they are really good...wish they delivered to my office!

Great little coffee shop. Travel through the area a lot visiting family. Always make a point to stop for coffee.

This is a shop you'd expect to find in a trendy city with high foot traffic and good taste. Don't take them fir granted, Effingham. These people rock. Great coffee, food, people and space.

We stopped in for dinner, but found a coffee house with one sandwich listed on their blackboard. We didn't see any menus or any other offerings, so we ordered the Pastrami sandwiches. They were very good, but we didn't care for the bag of sweet potato chips that came with it - they were chewy - not crispy. We ordered a piece of cheesecake to split between us. We couldn't even cut through the crust, and the cheesecake itself was dry and crumbly. We thought $25 was a little expensive for 2 sandwiches and one dessert. The music was loud and annoying for these two old fogeys. There were 3 guys working there, but we were the only ones in the place. And they weren't spending their free time cleaning!

Great local coffee shop. Great lunches, good soups, and great coffee. They started roasting their own coffee recently too!!! Local art on the walls! I love the Pesto Melt and the house cappucinno. It is a bit pricey to buy your coffee beans here.

My all time favorite for lunch!! I especially love the Santa Fe Wrap and the Herbivorian Wrap (AMAZING during Friday's in lent). You have to try the salsa ranch dip too! YUM! The only reason I didn't give it a 5 was because of the long wait, even when you order ahead. They should have a separate pick up line for patrons that call their order in ahead of time!

Pretty cool place. Found it by going to my trusty source - yelp. Effingham was the halfway point of a long drive and I wanted a late lunch plus some caffeine. I ordered a half southwest salad and cup of red pepper soup. I'm not a red pepper fan but the soup was awesome! The only problem is that it was served very, very hot. I was completely done with my salad (which was pretty good, btw) and had to wait at least 5 more mins before I could even touch the soup and it still burned me a little. My latte was good and even came with a heart designed into it. Now for the atmosphere: it's definitely a small town shop. The older regulars are here but what I was shocked by was the eclectic group of people here. It's definitely not your yuppie coffee shop that I'm used to. Everyone is pretty cool and they mind their own. The decor is fun. Same tables throughout with non-matching chairs. There are beans for sale and apparel. Bathrooms were clean so that's a plus! I don't think I'd go out of my way for this place but if I was driving through and needed a cup of joe, I'd come back.

This is an excellent alternative to those free breakfasts offered by nearby motels along the interstate. Great yogurt parfait, pour-over coffee, breakfast sandwich, quick service, friendly staff. Give this a try!!

I absolutely love this place. It's my first pick for breakfast and lunch. Sometimes dinner if I want something light. I love taking friends here for coffee and dessert also. Great place to sit and visit with friends. The owners are great people and keep everything fresh and delicious. My favorites are the salads and the Italian panini sandwich. Don't come to Effingham without trying Joe Sippers!

They serve Kaldi's coffee. This is a very typical coffee shop with custom drink ordering, a casual, friendly atmosphere, & very cozy. I recommend Joe Sippers as the only option worth visiting for a good cup of coffee if you don't want Starbucks, which is on the other side of town.

A nice little coffee shop situated in a convenient location. It is not impossible to get lost in a book or get some work done while sipping on a pretty decent cup of joe. This place is (literally) on the short list of places to be in Effingham.

My fiancé and I stopped here on our way through town and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and the service. There isn't much going on in the immediate area, but Joe Sippers has a great local, artsy vibe that's worth the trip. We both got the veggie wrap, which was simple but tasty. And, as other reviewers have noted, the hummus is phenomenal. I do wish they'd had a bit more variety of cold drinks and a dark roast coffee, but overall we were very happy.

Their hummus is amazing! I always get their chicken Caesar wrap and the spinach tortilla is great :) I always try to stop by when I come to effingham.

Had a lovely breakfast with my sister on our road trip. Service was wonderful, coffee was great, warm blueberry muffin hit the spot. The environment was very local and artsy, and it had a wide variety of seating including a colorful couch. So happy we stopped on our way through. We would definitely go back again.

This is a true Effingham gem! Anytime I am in town for a visit I make a point to stop here to enjoy a Herbivorian wrap and some coffee! I love the chips that come with the wrap and I always ask for an extra side of hummus. They seem to always be busy and occasionally their food orders take awhile. But, it's a great place to sit and chat with a friend, so I'm not usually in a rush. Whoever designed this place is very talented and has their finger on the pulse of current design. It's hip without being too trendy and eco-friendly without being too granola. I love their signage and menu graphics. Keep it up, Joe Sippers! You're doing something right!

In a word, perfect! Free wi-fi, a fabulous quesadilla egg wrap with a snappy salsa ranch dressing, and a piping hot cup of Kaldi's smooth coffee made working from "home" a treat! The decor is inviting---trendy without feeling too contrived. The service was friendly, peppy, and fast--good when you're under a deadline. The place started to fill up as the lunch hour approached, so I high-tailed it to make room for more paying customers. Can't wait til my next visit to Effingham so I can try the lunch.

Cute cafe. Although their smoothies were a little gross (mix, not fresh/frozen fruit), it was clear from looking around the shop that they source most of their products at a higher standard than the average small-town Illinois coffee shop. A lot of the brands were things you'd find in a Whole Foods. Service was friendly, and the store itself was clean and spacious. On a weekday afternoon, less than half the seats were occupied, and a few people with laptops looked like they hadn't moved in hours. In all, not a bad place to stop if you're a coffee drinker or you want a nice place to study.

Winning. Thanks, Yelp. As good a little Starbucks-type cafe as you will find anywheres. Nice folks. Mostly fresh food (get the tuna salad instead of the store-bought chicken salad). Toys and books for the kids and more seats in the back.

Great coffee shop in downtown Effingham. We met there a lot for a book club. They were very willing to let us use their spacious back room and even reserve it ahead of time. Best part? No charge. Their peach smoothie is great even though it isn't fresh, and the carrot cake is incredible!

So, I have friends in the Effingham area who insisted on patronizing the local Starbucks that is located on "restaurant row". This is the street just off of the interstate (70 and 57 meet here) where all of the franchised restaurants can be found in town. I encouraged them to support local business and this is one of those places. This place is in a great space. There are big windows in the front that allow in tons of light on the abundant seating. Then as you head towards the back (was obviously a service garage in it's past) there is even more seating and even a stage. The coffee is always delicious and freshly brewed and the food choices are fresh and made to order. The exception is the bakery goods in the counter display. These are locally made treats that go great with a nice cup of coffee or tea. There are many different board games and books throughout the place and make it a cool place to meet up for a casual night of coffee and games with friends. Also, on certain nights they have great local musicians who come in and perform. I'm so glad this place has survived in Effingham. I don't live here any longer, but when I'm in town it's a nice break away from the franchised, boring same old same old. The staff has always been friendly and helpful to make suggestions and provide feedback on what they think is good and not so good.
