I love the menu and the food to the moon and back, which would generally warrant a 5-star review, but the caveat here is that the one employee who made our order was a straight up b-face. Yep. There really isn't a nicer way to say it. And I'd totally try to nice it up a bit if she were even remotely pleasant---hell, I'd even take mildly annoyed to neutral, but no. What we got was some of the coldest stares and rudest remarks I've ever encountered. Ever. youtube.com/watch?v=TCeu… There were 2 employees who were plenty friendly. The blonde girl who took our order was so sweet and welcoming and patient and the second employee, a guy who gave a courteous smile but appeared to be finishing up to take a break (understandable since we were on of only two tables in there at 5pm on Saturday afternoon), but the young girl who made our food --- nope. A f*ck was not going to be given by her that day, that's for sure. The ordering process isn't intuitive if you've never been there before. I got a seitan schwarma pita sandwich and my partner got a falafel. We paid (with the nice girl) and thought we were done. I didn't realize you do it up all Chipotle-style so I came back to the counter that my partner was still standing at and I could already see the girl rolling her eyes at me-- to my face, but I'm super hungry + I'd already paid so I did the only thing I could do and played out a scenario in my head where birds pecked out her eyes the way the the bible says they will if you roll your eyes. No. That's wrong. I did not do that. Only a mean person or Jesus, in this instance, would do that, but I was certainly peeved with her initial stance. I can see that she's going to go out of her way to be as unpleasant as possible. Maybe because she thinks it's punk rock, or the cool thing to do or whatever, but you know what, I have a weird hair color and a septum piercing too -- that doesn't make me too cool or the right to be a dick to people... especially to people who I'm specifically paid to not be a dick to. So my partner tells me I need to tell her what I want on my seitan schwarma sandwich, as she stands there putting all her effort into looking extra annoyed, as if we interrupted her. I look over the counter to see what ingredients are hiding behind the wall and there's about a million options, so I panic and just say, can you do a little of everything? What's good on it? She audibly groans and then follows it with a huff and puff and even my partner started to get scared so he turns to me and says to just pick a couple things on my own and be done. So I pick my toppings and at the end she asks me what sauce I want on it and I ask if there's a spicy sauce, ya know, there's usually a sriracha or red chili paste or something when there's Mediterranean fare involved, and she looks at me and says in the absolute snottiest voice ever 'Like, what do want? Like, hot sauce?' I confirm, and ask again that I want hot sauce, but since there's no visible list of sauces and I'm not fluent in telling what a sauce is when there's a dozen different red options inside plastic squirt tubes that all look the same, I have to ask again, what's the hottest sauce you have? She replies and says 'horseradish'. As if that's a comparable spice when someone is looking for something like sriracha. I say that definitely don't want that. Anything more like just a hot sauce? And she says they have a sauce called 'hot sauce'. No description. No nothing, but whatever - I'll take it. Thankfully it was something along the lines of Frank's Red Hot Sauce - which is one of the most delicious sauces ever - so I was happy, but she could have just said that to begin with and moved the process a little faster. When my partner went through the topping spiel he got the same brazenly rude attitude, even though he went out of his way to be nice to her, a courtesy that frankly, she wasn't even trying to deserve. When our food came up my partner and I each loved our sandwiches like they were our own children. I actually loved mine so much that I wanted to order another, especially after having seen the staff favorite combos on each of the napkin dispensers (wish they would have made that more visible when we walked in), but I didn't want to risk having to have another interaction with that girl at the counter. It just wasn't worth the stress. Our food and an Honest Tea (white peach, yo) came to $17 and some change + 20% tip that I left in good faith before the terrible, horrible, no-good, very, bad attitude girl came along. It was probably one of the best sandwiches I'd ever had in my life, even though it came with a surprise order of high-and-mighty. If I'm ever in Dekalb again I know I'll be heading back in here, but I'll make sure to request that not-the-crabby-patty make my pita. I came here because I wanted to eat a pita, not because I wanted to be treated like a PITA.

Pita Pete's is pretty good, but honestly it's a little expensive for what you get.

Stopped by for a casual lunch with family before heading to a graduation ceremony. This is basically Subway with pitas and friendlier staff. John and I shared a seitan (wheat gluten) pita. Lots of veggies and a dash of their open pit BBQ sauce. Normally not a pita fan because of how thick/heavy some pitas can be, but I loved how light Pita Pete's pitas are! I believe their pitas might also be vegan. The seitan was really good, and the veggies were very fresh. We need more places like this!

I lived in DeKalb for two years back in 2005-2007 while going to school. I'm originally from California and back living in the golden state now, so I am definitely used to fresh and healthy food. Pita Pete's was one of the only places in the area that had fresh produce, healthy ingredients, and some of the best pita's I've ever had. The fact that you got to customize the pita was genius. Prices were pretty reasonable and the pita's were huge, would usually last me two meals. I'm so happy to see that this place still exists. If you are a college student and trying to eat healthy, definitely give this place a try. I wish they had a Pita Pete's in Cali!

Honestly, I've only been to this place a couple of times so far, but I'm looking forward to exploring the menu. :) So far my impression is pretty good. There's something for everyone - some soups, salads, and, of course, pitas. As someone who is health conscious, I pay attention to the ratios of different food groups in my meals. I enjoy the fact that the pitas aren't very thick and are pretty loaded with, in my case, veggies. They have some meats and some vegetarian options, like hummus and felafel. I found that some things have a pretty strong flavor, so when trying something new don't go overboard, I'm sure the business will be happy to give you less rather than more. I can't vouch for quality of their meat, but judging from taste alone it's pretty decent. The veggies are fresh. As someone spoiled on home-grown veggies, it's hard to find good-tasting vegetables when I eat out - I must say I was pleasantly surprised that their tomatoes actually had flavor! Portions are sizable but not too big. Depending on how filling the ingredients you choose are, it could possibly make for two small meals. Another nice quality is that you see your food being prepared in front of you. I can't say that staff is incredibly friendly, but not rude either - you order, they do what you ask, and you leave, there's not much interaction. It's also very close to campus, right by one of the college bookstores, which is a plus for students looking to grab a quick lunch. Overall, I'd say it's certainly one of the healthier options in DeKalb. I'm definitely coming back.

Sorry, when I see Pita in the name of a place, and they have Gyro's, I don't expect frozen pre-packaged Gyro meat. Quite disappointing. And almost $7 for a small serving of bland Hummus with stale pita chips? Not sure why this is only a single $ rating. Quite expensive for subpar meal.

Love this place! Definitely the best vegan/vegetarian grub in DeKalb. They make their own hummus (regular and a spicy black bean jalapeño), falafel,,and even their own marinated seitan, which is AMAZING. The prices are affordable, and the food is healthy and filling. The staff are always very attentive and good natured and are the true "sandwich artists" around here. DeKalb is lucky to have this place...make sure you visit, and visit often so we don't ever lose it!

I love this place, great veg options. They often have vegan cookies from a local bakery that are a bit expensive but very tasty. I like the peanut butter one. I wish I knew how many calories were in the pita. I love this place and come here quite often. It is a bit expensive but this place is definitely worth it because I know you are getting fresh healthy food.

This could quite possibly be Dekalb's best kept secret. Think Subway but with a twist or two of hippie. You start with a pita and build subway style, only with fresher ingredients and more options - choice of red or white onions? seriously? Red please! The options are endless, fresh, healthy and full of flavor. So, if the food is so good, there has to be a flaw? right? rude staff? dirty building? Nope! Walking in as a noob I wasn't quite sure what to expect. I'm a Subway veteran (a former employee actually) so I know how to build a sammy. However, I wanted something outside of the box rather than a simple turkey. So I simply explained to the staff behind the counter that I was a Pita Petes virgin, and the Cashier suggested a Chicken Gyro with her favorite fixins. Being a trustworthy fella, I committed and it was amazing! The second time I tried the Falaffel (also a recommendation) and was happy with that as well. Go for the food. Relay on the staff as needed. Don't pass this up, especially if you are looking for something healthy AND delicious.

I don't get to the DeKalb area much these days, but when I do, Pita Pete's has almost become a must stop! First time through, had the Chicken Caesar Pita. Liked it a lot. Second time through, the Gyro Pita. LOVED it! Staff is quite helpful if you are unsure on what to get. Love the selection of toppings you can get in the pita. As someone else mentioned, its like Subway, but better! The place is a bit of a dive, but it gives it its character. Avg cost of roughly $10 per person after chips and drink (and do not overlook the Voodoo chips!). Definitely worth it though if you are looking for a sandwich.

Great place and alternative to subway. The ingredients are very fresh and the people who work there were super friendly. I would definitely come back.

A friend and I stopped in here after a trip to a local guitar shop. Put simply I'm sad that this place is in DeKalb rather than near Chicago somewhere because it was GREAT. I got chicken with all sorts of veggies and some sort of vingrette sauce and it was fantastic. My friend got the seitan (hes a vegitarian) that he said was great as well. I really like how they let you add whatever sort of in the style of Subway only WAY better. The final product is HUGE so come hungry, I got a pita and some humus and I was STUFFED. The humus was a jalapeno black bean humus and came with pita chips. This was my only disappointment. Its not that it was bad but when I heard the name I thought it'd be crazy tasting but it turned out to rather bland and not very jalapenoy. This turned out to be fine as my chicken pita was so flavorful I could use a little break between bites. It was a bit pricey but it was totally worth it. Two other things that were great was the staff and the music. The staff was really helpful and just generally cool to deal with. The music was an awesome blend of all kinds of stuff, probably picked by the staff. Overall I can only say definitely go here if you're in the area.

This is a regular lunch spot for me. Pita Pete's breathes life into the fast food chains in DeKalb. The food is generally fresh (sometimes frozen), and the options are limitless. The meats are always frozen. But the vegetables and vegetarian options are kept fresh. However, the steak always turns out juicy and flavorful. I am not a vegan, nor vegetarian, but enjoy well-made vegie-friendly foods. All of the vegetables are fresh. The hummus comes in three varities, all delicious on a pita or with a side of chips. Falafel is tasty, but often comes out dry, so sauce up. Otherwise, the pita's can be a little sloppy, so be sure to grab a fork. Dining room is clean and upbeat. The kitchen is open air, so the aroma of cooked food adds a nice touch to the dining room. Staff is friendly. When I started exploring options outside of ham, chicken, and steak, they were always willing to giving me an honest recommendation. All in all, Pita Pete's throws it's weight around very well with the chains in the area. The intrigue of the pita sandwich will bring you in, but the food will keep you coming back.

I went to this place during a break in class after reading the reviews on here. It was pretty good, but nothing I would consider super. When I think of a pita, I think of a 6-8" circle that is much thinker than a tortilla. This pace just makes sandwich burritos. Don't get me wrong the food was good and so was the service. The ingredients looked fresh and everything was made-to-order. I'd go back again, but I don't think I would crave the food here. It is not that cheap either. Their burritos, I mean pitas, range from $6-9 depending on ingredients.

Pretty good...probably the healthiest option in DeKalb..looks like a lot of greeks work there...OPA! The staff seems pretty cool....I got Chicken Gyros and Turkey (separate times) and I was impressed both times! I live pretty close, so if there is one place I want to eat out, Pita Petes' is it!

Prompt service and good wraps and it was cheap too. One of the best places to grab a quick bite to eat at NIU. Slightly more healthy than the surrondings food businesses too depending on what you order.

Just moved in at NIU today and decided to do some exploring. Apparently there's this pita place tucked away at the bottom (and I mean bottom) floor of an old 60's style building. I just adore pitas so I decided I'd try one from them. Not only is the staff friendly (maybe I'm generalising here since I'm basing this statement on 2 of the to-me-unknown total number of staff, but whatever) the smell of bacon on the grill is just plain enticing. I decided to get the BLT pita (I know, not very traditional) which was just great. The bacon was cooked perfectly and the veggies were grilled to perfection. Looking forward to visiting again. Maybe in the next 48 hours or so.

I love this place but I'm writing this review based on the dept lunch we had today. Coworker #1 - falafel burnt, I've had better but nice portion of olives. Is it a $10 salad? No. 1star Coworker #2 - falafel burnt, not enough falafel for the price 1star Coworker #3 - I'm good, tuna definitely from a can though which is uninspired 4star Coworker #4 - had chicken Caesar wrap, it was good but not filling 4star Coworker #5 (me) - loved it!! 5star

I've been a fan of Pita Pete's since I was stuck in DeKalb without a car for an extra day due to a cancelled flight last winter. I googled places that delivered food, and that's how I came to my first tasty Pita Pete's experience. The falafel pita is my absolute favorite. I love loading it with spinach, sprouts, black beans, and sunflower seeds and then topping it with the sweet and slightly tangy Caribbean mango vinaigrette. These "pitas" resemble huge burritos packed with tasty ingredients of your choice. I often even get extra falafel on the side to use in a salad at home later in the day. Their pita chips are also absolutely delicious: thin, crispy, and the perfect amount of salt. I always get an order or two of these chips with a pita because my boyfriend, who is more of a burger guy, also loves them. Pita Pete's hummus is also luxuriously creamy. I haven't explored the menu beyond the falafel because I love it so darn much. I always get it, whether I walk in for lunch or order online via Foodler for delivery. The coldness of some employees and the abbreviated hours during breaks are my only complaints about the place, but I guess that comes with being a small business in a college town.

Pita Pete's offers a lot of options for your sandwich. The service was slow, almost too slow, but if you realize that they are cooking things to order, then you have to be patient. Slow means that you have a freshly cut pita, hot fillings, fresh and crisp toppings, and chilled sauce. I enjoyed my seitan pita with romaine, black beans, corn, and tomatoes with tzatziki sauce.and would come here again. I love that they have vegan options!

Do your taste buds a favor and stop in, your stomach will thank you. I have been a loyal customer since 2002 and I still think Pita Pete's is the best value in town. I get tons of veggies, homemade hummus all wrapped in a delightful pita bread that is delicious to the last bite. So delicious, that I wish there was one more bit but so filling that there is no way I could eat more. Pita Pete's specializes in deliciousness! Whether your a Vegan, Vegetarian or a regular ol omnivore give this place a chance and it will have you coming back for more. Why are you still reading this review when you should be at Pita Pete's picking out your favorite treats form there fresh salad bar. Your body needs this and your debt card says its worth every penny.

Love Pita Pete's! It was the place to go when I went to NIU and it is still a must-go when I am in DeKalb for whatever reason. The food is fresh and healthy, and you can make virtually anything you want in a pita! YUM.

    (5)
  • Abi M.

Pita Petes has great healthy options. I love going there, you get to pick all your own ingredients and have control over your options. It's a better version of subway, although your making pita pockets instead of subs. The customer service has always been great when I go. They also have vegetarian options. They have hummus and falafel. I love their falafel. You can pick from a huge number of dressings to finish off your pita. They end up being pretty large sandwiches based on how many toppings you put in, so I always leave there full.

    (5)

I love pita sandwiches. I had much higher hopes. The actual pita was just okay, but at least there are many selections to choose from. The customer service was good. I guess I am just used to other places closer to Chicago.

I'm a big fan. I live in the Western Burbs, and we don't have anything like this around me. I know it's typical in college towns to have a pita place, or so it seems. There were a few restaurants in the VCB commons, but IMO, this was the best.

Maybe I'm a middle-eastern-food snob because I live in the great city of Chicago with all the great options. Or maybe because I married a middle eastern man and have had authentic food from there. Or maybe I'm the only reviewer with taste buds (no offense everyone, gimme a call I'll take you to a real spot). We walked in and I could tell immediately from the atmosphere that I should walk out. The service was friendly but they were not cooks nor were they from anywhere NEAR the Mediterranean. I ordered a very expensive BLT that came in a pita that was not warmed up. (When we asked if it could be pre warmed we were told that you can't do that bc then it will fall apart...hmmm....I've made my own pita on a number of occasions and eaten it from others many times and warming it up shouldn't be a problem if done right.) My father ordered a gyros which also came in a pita. It was yuck! There was not gyros spit that turned. They threw strips of "meat" on a grill and served it. Overall a not yummy experience. I'll never be back for 2 reasons: 1. I live almost 2 hrs away and 2. I'd rather eat grass. I'll end my rant now :)

Every time I come home from school, I have to get Pita Pete's for lunch. Their food is wonderful. I love the variety of ingredients (black beans, corn, spinach, and a bunch of other stuff you don't always see in Subway or Jimmy John's), and the number of sauces makes for endless combinations. The staff is friendly and nice, and I enjoy talking to them when they cook my chicken or stuff my pita. The building is clean, and the employees make sure they are practicing all the good health code stuff with gloves and sanitation. TL;DR The joint has wonderful, healthy options, and great staff!

I graduated from niu in 2008 and still miss this place. Whenever I go back, I make sure to go. This is one of the healthiest places on campus. I get grilled chicken with romaine, cucumbers, cheese and fat free Italian- perfection! The actual pita is huge. My friends used to say "it's really like a small child"! So even just having half is usually enough. I can't wait for my next trip back.

A place so amazing that I feel let down we don't have a location in Chicago that I could lunch at weekly. We almost missed the place; the pale yellow signage was hard to see on a cold, blustery night. (Lluckily for them, I don't knock stars for bad signage.) My husband had the seitan, topped with the combo of crazy fresh veggies and toppings the super-friendly guy behind the counter had been "perfecting for three months". As I sat across from him, enjoying my very delicious chicken gyro, he had what I can only describe as a religious experience, wearing the most blissful face I've seen in a long time. The pitas are huge and by some miracle they don't strain under the piles of toppings. The kalamata olives and feta were the best part of my pita, and I'm very picky about both. We left feeling stuffed, but in the way only a really plentiful, healthy meal can satisfy. Everyone was friendly, helpful and patient while we navigated the ordering process for the first time. I have a feeling we'll be dropping by Pita Pete's on every trip out this way...and inventing more reasons to come out past DeKalb.

Fresh, healthy, and delicious! I was passing through DeKalb for work, and I wanted to stop in somewhere for a quick lunch before heading back towards Chicago. Thankfully, I chose to visit local NIU hot spot, Pita Pete's! From the moment I walked in and looked at the menu, I knew where I was not...Subway. On this visit, I had the chicken pita with romaine, tomato, onion, cucumber, jalapeno peppers, and honey mustard. The chicken breast was cooked to order and the toppings tasted very fresh. There is a huge selection of proteins and toppings for your pita. They even have falafel and homemade hummus. Kudos to Pita Pete's for carrying the best potato chips in the USA....Zapp's from Louisiana. Having lived in New Orleans, I was extremely happy that they carried the Voodoo flavor. Simply amazing! Overall, I had a wonderful experience at Pita Pete's. It was certainly the best pita restaurant I have ever been to. For that, I give you 5 well deserved stars.

I LOVE PITA PETE'S! GOD I WANT SOME RIGHT NOW HURGHHH WHY DID I GRADUATE I AM GOING TO MISS IT :( If you are in Dekalb and you are a vegetarian or like eating things that aren't burgers, and a HUGE fresh yummy variety of vegetable/bean fillings (they have alfalfa sprouts!) and freshly grilled meats or falafel, please go here. Now. The shop upon enterting is pretty average looking but I can assure you the pitas are not. There is usually some interesting indie music playing and everything is really laid-back. They staff has picked their favorite items which are listed on the napkin dispensers, so you may want to check that out. The staff are also super cheerful and friendly...although sometimes they might not wear bras or something, but thats cool. I'm down with hippies. Every pita I have had here is warm, fresh and super delicious, and VERY filling. Although it sort of falls apart and becomes a huge mess as you near the bottom (get a fork), but you just can't go wrong with chicken caesar. It's actually so good it's all I've ordered. You will not be disappointed. GET CUCUMBER SAUCE.

Yum. So many fresh veggie options, and the cheese and sauces are delicious. I've had the chicken gyro and the falafel so far. The falafel was not the best I've had, but the chicken gyro meat was really good. The portions are pretty huge, so I usually end up getting 2 meals for one, eating the rest for dinner later, which is a plus.

The best place in Dekalb to stuff your face!! You can't beat pitas the size of your head. If you're into hummus and falafel, the place is amazing. Take it from someone who's been to the Middle East. Pita Pete's has the best stateside Mediterranean and vegetarian ingredients. Don't like that sort of stuff? No problem! They've got meaty American goodness too. Did I mention yet that it's priced for college students?

Maybe this is super late (I moved out of Dekalb in 2008) - but I STILL get cravings for Pita Pete's. Apparently there was one in Evanston, but it closed almost a year ago, which is about a year before I found out it even existed. I miss this place so bad. The end.

While attending NIU for school, myself and roomattes ate here quite a bit. I absolutly loved it! I always got the chicken ceaser pita (I'm a picky eater) and it was always filling but it is so good I forced myself to finish! The pita is extremly BIG! So go with an appetite.

5star

I struggle with my ranking of Pita Pete's. It's really more of a 3.5 stars kind of place. What's great about this is how unique it is to the area and being essentially right on campus. The food here is actually quite good. I rotate between the traditional ham and cheese and BBQ chicken. If you are vegetarian or someone who eats on the healthy side, this place has a ton of good options for you. My issues aren't with the food or the service necessarily. I just think it's a bit overpriced for the amount of food you're getting. Their hours as well can be a bit funky as well. I've come here a couple times when I'm in town to find them closed despite saying on yelp or their website they would be open. So there's where my issue lie. If I were to review on food alone it's easily a 4 out of 5. I'd say it's a... must try

I love pita pete's It's the kind of place that makes me feel like a kid in a candy store where I can choose whatever I want from a huge list of delicious and fresh ingredients right in front of me--only a lot less guilt involved here because it's basically a huge salad bar! And let's face it, it's hard to eat healthy in dekalb...so take refuge here! The general vibe of the place is very cool--great music and employees that love their job and want to provide good service. Get creative! Try something new each time! "Why did I just pay $23 for two pitas and two drinks?" was the first, but not the last, question going through my head when I tried Pita Pete's. Overpriced, service was abysmally slow, terrible and dry falafel that was the least authentic I have ever had. My boyfriend had to argue to get them to put cheese on his Philly CheeseSteak since the counter staff wanted to charge us extra for that -- not that it mattered in the end, because the staff eventually disappeared and left us standing there awkwardly for ten minutes watching our food sit half-made and untouched behind the counter. Think of it like a less competent Subway but for double the price. The only redeeming qualities are the cool music and rock n roll posters.

Loooooved this place when I went to school at NIU. I've been craving Pita Pete's for months now. I live in the city, and this is not a close drive and Pita Pit just doesn't cut it! I am headed out to DeKalb this weekend, (not only for Pita Pete's) but it's on the list of things I must have when I come out. I cannot wait!

If you like good, fresh, and tasty food this is the place for you. They offer many options of meats, toppings, and sauces. The fresh veggies are great and so is having a freshly cooked meat. It can be a little expensive, but its worth it when compared to cheaper mass produced and processed food options. There is a bit of a hippie thing going on to hahaha

Some context. This is a university town that is not too far from Chicago suburbs. So this means a lot of commuters and people have more cuisine choices not that far away. Which in turn means less cuisine choice in town. And where does the less-choice hammer fall? Obviously at the healthy end of the spectrum. This makes Pita Pete's a bit of a lone ranger in DeKalb (of course there is Subway). So how do they do? They manage to keep it very down-to-earth with (a) a good range of fresh ingredients, (b) friendly, efficient staff, and (c) speed. Exactly the things they promise. The ingredients are consistent in freshness and taste (I have eaten there several times) and the menu is quite fixed. The food is not cheap but it not very costly (pitas start at around $8.00). Also, you are only paying for the ingredients (no add-ons). Compare variety with Subway and Pita Pete's wins hands down - way more ingredients (sauces, veggies, toppings etc). Also portions are generous and there is none of that annoying stinginess that is so common (Chipotle, Panda Express, sometimes even Subway). Overall, "status" food this is not. The reason for my review today is that due to recent cold weather I've had food delivered. Both times it was salad. And it came absolutely loaded - a heavy box of fresh food with dressing on the side. Even to one used to their portions I found them to be large. So if you feel like eating healthy in DeKalb I'd recommend them. Now, if you want a burger with over 40 grams of fat (over 20 from saturated fat), I have several other recommendations...not all of them restaurants.

I wish there were more places like this. It reminds me of Chipotle but with a larger selection of fillings... and a pita... not a burrito. I can be pretty picky so this place works out great for me. Its a good location and the service is surprisingly good. The pita chips are also a must!

Would I drive an hour just to get my favorite pita? Oh you'd better believe I would. I graduated almost 4 years ago and still long for their falafel pitas. I can't vouch for any of the other pitas since I'm a vegetarian who likes to stick to what they know. I can, however, attest to the fact that the falafel is a crunchy, tasty bit of heaven. Not overly spiced and served up warm, it is AMAZING. The selection of vegetables, sauces, and cheeses is amazing - much larger than anything you could find at Jimmy John's or Subway (not knocking them, I just prefer lots of options) is it is always fresh. The pitas are always HUGE so, like a previous reviewer, come hungry, prepared to share, or be ready to bring home leftovers. Also, the staff is always friendly, prompt, and helpful.

I crave Pita Pete's on a daily basis. I love how fresh and just tasty their food is. I love the falafel pita and the ability to put anything in the pita makes it nearly impossible for someone to hate this place. Everytime you go here you'll see that they've added something new to their menu. Last time I went they had homemade pita chips and hummus. Both were AMAZING. I wish this place were everywhere, but then again I don't, cause I hate chains. If you're in DeKalb, this is one place not to miss.

YUM.

I'm a big fan. I live in the Western Burbs, and we don't have anything like this around me. I know it's typical in college towns to have a pita place, or so it seems. There were a few restaurants in the VCB commons, but IMO, this was the best.

Two words: Falafel Pita. Seriously, so good. I gladly fork over 6 dollars for a falafel pita. I haven't eaten here all semester, but have craved it ALL the time. DeKalb is often lacking in restaurants with fresh, good food- but this place is not one of those. If you're unfortunate enough to be spending your undergraduate years in DeKalb like me, try this place out.

Pita Pete's is a gem in the rough. I mean really rough. DeKalb doesn't have many healthy options. Although there is a subway in the same strip mall as Pita Pete's, the two restaurants are on two completely different levels. I would recommend the BBQ Chicken or Chicken with Ranch dressing. The vegetables are fresh. I've never been disappointed. My only complaint is price. It is around $6-$10 for a meal. I do believe the quality deserves this price.

So many veggie and sauce options to customize your pita; Chicken Caesar, Gyro, and Falafeel are my standbys. Cannot recommend enough getting the Voodoo chips on the side. A little pricey, and it's probably not enough for dinner, but you're going to get a fresh and unique meal.

I thought Pita Pete's was pretty good, but never understood why some people got so obsessed with it. The concept is simple: you pick the ingredients and they wrap it all up in a pita. It was nice to have a place to get food that wasn't fried or soaked in grease walking distance from campus. I thought the service was slow even when the place was empty. It wasn't really the staff's fault, but they should take a hint from Chipotle and set up a quick assembly line to speed the process up.

Alright, so my friend and I went back to Pita Pete's today because we were fooled into thinking that an Indian restaurant WASN'T closed over in the area. This time they actually had falafel and pita chips, and it was much better than before. Since I know what goes on a falafel pita, it was much easier than before, and this time I knew how the process went, so it seemed better by comparison. The pitas came apart too easily, but the staff seemed friendly, and although the falafel was a bit dry, it was rather good. I will probably return in the future if I'm nearby and don't feel like going to the Chinese restaurant down the way.

Awesome, simply awesome. Massive pitas totally customizable. I love Pita Pit, but Pete's overwhelming options tower over the Pit's choices. I will definitely become a regular here. As a vegan, my options around town are limited at best. With Pita Pete close by, I have a ready made option when friends ask where to grab grub.

Prompt service and good wraps and it was cheap too. One of the best places to grab a quick bite to eat at NIU. Slightly more healthy than the surrondings food businesses too depending on what you order.

I absolutely loved this place when I was at NIU. The prices are fairly reasonable, they were open late, and the amount of items you could place on inside the pita was extensive. The staff who worked there were also pretty interesting because vividly recall going here one time and the employee was playing EYEHATEGOD. Pretty wild stuff. One of the few eating places I truly do miss.

This is probably the healthiest choice in all of DeKalb. The food is delicious, and very customizable. The service is prompt, the staff makes great suggestions. They keep the place pretty clean as well.

It's rare that in a small town like DeKalb you can order a pita, completely customize it, and choose from multiple forms of vegetarian protein (hummus, beans, falafel). Portions are huge and the food is completely refreshing. I'm craving it now!

Love this place! It is a bit pricey for a pita sandwich which is the reason for the 4 instead of 5. Can't go wrong with them though.
