I love this place! It's my go-to for Mexican in town. I've never had a bad experience. The service is always quick and friendly. Plus they give lots of extra salsa without complaint (or an extra charge) if you ask for it. They're always really accommodating about substitutions or combinations so if you want something that's slightly different than the menu don;t be afraid to ask. I've had barbacoa/steak/chicken/carnitas in the forms of burritos, enchiladas, tostadas, tacos, etc. and it's all been great. You get a lot of food for the money so it's a great value.

Ok, so first off, I find it hilarious when people talk about this place and are unimpressed by the interior and the atmosphere. It is a taco place, plain and simple. That is it. Nothing more, nothing less. So live and let be. The food is great and prices are low. I have been there post-night of drinking and I have been there for a quick, casual dinner.

This is definitely my favorite Mexican food in Dekalb. The steak tacos were perrrfect. Their tomato & green salsas are sooo good. My only complaint is that I have a rice obsession and theirs was wayy too salty for my liking. Not a fan. Other than that, it leaves me quite satisfied. The service is great, whenever I order for delivery the driver is very friendly. They said it was going to take 45 mins and it only took about 20!

It's as close to authentic Mexican as you can get in the area and the best you can get in DeKalb. Very tasty variety of tacos, as well as good rice and beans. Unfortunately, they do not make their own tortillas.

Inconsistent. The steak has had a low-grade liver taste to it lately. One time I got some form of Chicken here either in a burrito or a taco and felt kind of nauseous afterwards. The pastor tacos have always been on-point. The potato tacos are also decent. The chile relleno is also usually pretty good. The horchata is a bit sweet, probably my least favorite in De Kalb. I've eaten at Burritoville, Salsas y Carnitas, Flamingo Restaurant, Loco, and another excellent burrito joint that used to be on S. 4th and Lincoln Hwy...("Burrito #10"?). It's a tough call to say "who is the best" so I still mix it up. Loco is closest to my house and they are open pretty late but if it's before 10pm weekdays/11pm weekends I go to Flamingo Restaurant (on Pleasant and 11th)...I might have to be the first to review that sucker... Someone told me it's the same owner as Loco but I'm not sure that's the case... The steak is consistently good, they have fresh juices, smoothies, and ice cream too. Buenas Noches, Guey!

Best mexican food in dekalb!!! Have been going there and always have very good deals. Recently they added 6 different specials that come with small drink, rice and beens for only $6.99! Really affordable!!! And if you are a taco lover they also have a buy 5 tacos get one free! I really recommend it! Go soon before the deals end :)

This place is no frills, but very decent in quality of food and price. Lots of food on the plate for the price and the counter servers are very helpful. Not a huge amount of seating and not so great parking, but they do deliver in DeKalb and have room inside for about 20 people and have a few picnic benches outside. We like the fajitas, chimichangas, tacos al pastor and enchildas.

We go here a lot for steak tacos, rice, beans and horchata. All are pleasing enough to return frequently. Its best when you eat in. Chips and salsa are good too. They are particularly awesome in the middle of the night when nothing else (good) is open.

This place is decent at best. I ordered their steak burrito which was basically ground beef and lettuce. I'd knock them down to one star, but their wait staff was friendly and their prices are decent. But, there has got to be other places that are better. The beans looked like they were from a can and the horchata was made from powder. On another positive note, the soups that were ordered by the table next to me looked legit. So, maybe I just ordered the wrong thing.

Best authentic Mexican food for an affordable price! Everything I have gotten there has been pretty good and I like that they deliver. The horchata is the best!

Nice little place in Dekalb being from California it was nice to find this place for breakfast in my way to the airport good huevos a la mexicana, good service awesome spicy salsa and horchata is the bomb

Always a great meal! Probably one of the better taco places in the area. Sometimes they have a sign in front of their store for $1.25 tacos, which is good deal. Staff is always friendly and place is always clean. The burritos are over the top big. Even the baby burrito are a good size. Top picks are their tacos, carne asada meal, and burritos.

Is not bad but I found it to be below the quality of another dekalb mexican restaurant. The Al Pastor seemed like it was precooked then microwaved. The chorizo and steak was ok but it wouldn't be my first choice.

So good! I got a giant steak and potato burrito and added onions, cilantro, guacamole and sour cream. It was very yummy and really HUGE. I usually go to Chipotle when I want a burrito but this is so much better and cheaper! I'll definitely order from them again. Yum yum yum Edit: It's really hit or miss here. Sometimes the burritos are amazing and sometimes they're disappointing. The drunker you are, the better.

Ay dios mio! Una estrella :( .... I had the ground beef burrito. Extremely bland. The ceviche was okay but not the greatest. If it weren't for la cajero culo caliente (aye mama), I would have given them 0! I did come straight from California to here. But I've traveled all over and honestly I've had better in the backwoods of Louisiana.

I hadn't been in there for years, since it was el loco burrito. When it was el loco burrito they put all kinds of gross herbs on the meat and I didn't really like it. But since I saw it had a new name I assumed it would be a new owner so I gave it another try. Overall it was pretty good . They did put lettuce on my burrito even though I asked for it to not be on there, but they offered to get me a free one on my next visit so I'm satisfied. After I scraped the lettuce off it tasted very nice . friendly wait staff and very clean sitting area. I am definitely going back and trying some of their other menu items.

First things first they changed the name! So if you are driving around looking for it look for LOS 3 BURRITOS. Now to the important topic: the food. Home-made level quality. I was recommended here by friends who said it can not be beat and I can see whatthey mean. The corn tortillas are fantastic and the price is UNBEATABLE! The preperation is lighting fast as well, so if you are in the market for a quick, quality, and cheap meal. This is the place to go for authentic mexican food. ¡Fantastico!

Their food is always amazing!!! I tip the cooks every time, they deserve it! They are the best Mexican food in the dekalb area. Everything on the menu is awesome! You won't go wrong going to eat at this place

Best Burrito Around! Burrito Loco has the right combo of what a burrito should look like and taste! I like to get the steak baby burrito, because the regular size one is too big. If I had to recommend one thing to get at this place, I would say ask for a bottle of their homemade tomatillo verde sauce.....it is excellent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Your welcome. Priced well, and fast service. They are willing to please! Taco's are excellent also, I go the more authentic route with corn tortillas....they are great! If you want some good quick Mexican food, this is your place.

Good steak tacos and great chorizo here! It's not greasy like at most places. Very tasty!

The food here is delicious. I don't know why i didn't find this place earlier while I was at NIU. Nevertheless, I was here at least twice a week getting the enchiladas verdes. I still have to visit the other location in Naperville but if it's the same as in DeKalb, i'm sure i'll be a constant visitor and customer.

    (5)
  • Amber K.

I am not really sure where NIU students ate Mexican before they ate here, but it must have been pretty gross if this place is considered "delicious''. I don't know it might be the fact that I don't eat meat or cheese and that's where the flavor lies? But I thought my food was flavorless and plain. The person behind the counter seem annoyed as I take a while to order when I come to a new restaurant. Another problem I had with El Burrito Loco was the guacamole, way too many tomatoes and onions not enough of the green goodness, people call avocados. And the salsa, I mean red water, was a joke. I can see the appeal of this place its open late and close to campus. But I really can not see 5 stars that's a stretchy stretch if I ever saw one!

Muy, Muy, Bueno! I got chicken tacos and a fajita steak burrito...their salsa (mild and hot) were both awesome as well! I cannot wait to go back! I feel like I am in Mexico when I order here, and because I was the only white person in there, which I was ok with! They have a lot of different stuff I want to try on their menu, but I just stuck with the standard fare for now! I can't wait to go back and try fajitas, tamales, or an enchilada!

  • Cress H.

My friend made the ridiculous claim that Mexican food in Chicagoland was better than in California. Now, I still think he's crazy but El Burrito Loco definitely helps him start to make that claim. Their burrito barbacoa....delicioso!

  • Denise V.

Fresh ingredients. The only thing is they charge you ,85 for avocado when on the menu lists it as included. Sometimes the lady behind the counter is crabby but every time I come in she's there so I might be crabby too.

Tamales. Tamales. Tamales. Also, horchata. Add some green sauce, late night hours and oh so wonderful latino-tv in the background, and I'm home.

  • Jessica D.

This was my #1 favorite Mexican restaurant in DeKalb when I was going to NIU. I made my dad take me here on the way home, whenever he came up to pick me up for the weekend, and we'd both share a Jarritos or an horchata. Very, very tasty food, and exceptional prices. Warning: make sure you train and get a medical check-up before you attempt to walk all the way over from Stevenson South on a chilly evening... I wish I had just grabbed a bus...

  • Elizabeth D.

I like Burrito Loco. It's old and beaten up, but the staff keeps it fairly clean. They're friendly and will tell you about the food and drinks on their extensive menu. Also, on a hot day, wander in and get a big horchata. Make sure to try their salsa verde and the pork tacos.

It's been a while since I've been here but it's just as good as I remember. Tonight I had the baby burrito yum...too bad I couldn't finish it all. Good service too.

I get that it's mainly drunk food, but the quality of meat, along with the amount of grease, was completely unacceptable for something I paid $6 for. Don't think I'll be back again.

Its' greasy, fast food Mexican food and it is great. Always quick and always plenty. Not much on the ambiance but I am not one who cares for such things much. If you like Mexican food then this is the place to be.

Best Mexican restaurant in Dekalb. Everything is good here...I've been going there since I was able to drive. Actually before that, because my mom and I would drive there. My friend who is from Ecuador always had me take her there because she loved it. That sort of tells you something too. Anyways, if you go, try and get the pozole, it's...amazing. Or the caldo de res (beef soup) is tasty also. I like the sopes, tacos, carne asad, huaraches, burritos...pretty much everything! Plus they are open pretty late...eat here!

Gotta go here if you are in DeKalb, with a name like that, how could you not? Besides the burritos are huge and very tasty...

I am so glad I don't live directly next door to a joint like this. As soon as you open their doors, the aroma of Authentic Mexican (fast food) is going to knock you off your feet. That's how tasty their food is! Their entire restaurant is amazing. And you know what I really like? They have pretty good service. As soon as you come in, they are taking your order. When ever I visit Dekalb, my family and I love to indulge in their authentic Mexican cuisine!!!! Rochelle Young/Windy City Chicago

This place is definitely properly named. Only other name I'd give it is El Burrito GIGANTE! The giant burritos are literally giant. Weigh probably 10 lbs. Opt for the baby burritos if you're not starving like an Ethiopian. I ordered a pork burrito, which came with refried beans in it, not black beans, which I thought was weird, cheese, lettuce and tomato. I added rice and sourcream to it. Because of how packed this thing was, I couldn't even pick it up. Had to fork and knife it. The burrito was obviously filling, but it wasn't anything to write home about. There was almost too much going on that I couldn't really taste each componant. It was just a big mushed up mess inside a huge tortilla. It came with a side of red and green salsas. Both were really hot, but the flavor was kind of lacking. For the price, which was about 6 bucks, and the amount of food you get it's a great deal. Taste wise...meh. I also got some Horchata or they call it Rice Water. After drinking it, I called it Rice Water as well. When I think of Horchata, I think of drinking a liquid rice pudding. It was very thin and mild in flavor. Not as creamy and cinnamony as I've had at other places. Overall, this place is alright. I'm not dying to go back, but if I find myself there again, I wouldn't mind trying something different.

This place is not only the best burrito in DeKalb, they make one of the best I've ever had! HUGE portions, tasty sides, pleny of options! be prepared to feel full for 4 days after, though. when people go for mexican, they want cheap food, and alot of it. you get it here for sure

A bit Dive-y. ENORMOUS PORTIONS. If they should served beer and it'd be 5 stars.

Yuuum. We were pretty inebriated and needed something delicious, so we walked to El Burrito Loco on the recommendation of the bartender. Unfortunately, we discovered they were closing in 5 minutes, but surprisingly they were really nice and took our order anyway, quickly plying us with food so we could be on our way. I got a lengua burrito which I topped with delicious salsa verde. Sooo good. I will definitely be going back; I hope it's as good when I'm sober!

Sometimes there is a language barrier here while trying to order, but for the most part there are zero problems and only deliciousness. This specific EBL has the BEST flautas of any I have ever had. I am starting to get hungry just thinking about it. I love the staff (they are sweet ladies) and the place is usually very clean. They also deliver!! pretty late at night too. :)

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
