The fries and cheese are amazing. The beef and hot dogs are also really good and this place is very cheap with generous portions. Enjoy it!

Teddy's Red Hots is a brightly lit hot dog joint located off of Plainfield Road in Darien. The parking lot was busy and the inside is fairly clean with a decent sized menu of items to order. I'm unsure if this place is related to the Teddy's Red Hots in Downers Grove but I decided to stop in and try out their food. I went for the hot dog. The hot dog I received came on a regular non-poppy seed bun. The bun had hard edges and showed signs of dryness. The hot dog itself was longer than the bun which is kind of unusual. The pickle included was a bit on the sour side and a tad too thick. The tomato slices were also a bit on the thick side and I had to reassemble my dog to get all of the components to stay on. The application of the mustard, relish and onions were fine. This hot dog while tasting alright combined two of my biggest pet peeves with Chicago Style Hot Dogs. This hot dog was guilty of having a hard and dry hot dog bun being the first sin, and a pickle slice that was too thick. The fact that this came from a place that specializes in hot dogs, it's surprising for them to be serving a bun in that condition. Needless to say it really hurt the score on this hot dog. The hot dog overall didn't taste bad, it simply didn't have the right texture.

I love their Italian beef sandwich with pickles and mustard! The crinkly French fries are always crispy and hot. Then there is the Italian Ice. My favorites are the lemonade, strawberry and black cherry. My only complaint is that they aren't in Southern California. Come on Teddy, Portillo's went out there!

Teddy's is a reputable and amazingly convenient alternative to the big whig chain fast food restaurants. Food comes fresh, fast, and no hassle. There are no long lines, price increases, or name tags. The guys are extremely friendly and the place is clean. You will feel much better supporting a small well run business.

Local spot small with good quality food. Try the beef and cheddar on pretzel bread! Amazing!!

Beware. After the recent renovation, prices have skyrocketed. A family of two adults and one child should not have had a bill of 38 dollars just for each to have a sandwich, a large fry to split, and a milkshake for the kid. Also of note, there are ZERO options for kids, so be prepared to pay 8 bucks when your kid wants a plain cheeseburger. When questioned about the new prices, the staff there said those are the new prices for "restaurant quality" food. This struck me as an odd answer, since what other quality should be expected? Of note, the "restaurant quality" cheeseburger for our kid was nothing special. It was obviously a frozen patty cooked on their grill. The hot dog and beef sandwich we also got were very good, but the serving sized seemed a bit smaller than they have in the past as well. My impression is that Teddy's is trying recoup some costs of their renovation by changing their menu around and jacking up their prices. This is shortsighted as they have lost at least one customer and probably more to come. A good alternative is Mama D's in Lemont, which has fair and competitive prices, options for kids, and ALSO has "restaurant quality" food. In fact, their beef sandwiches are superior to Teddy's now.

Poorest hot dog EVER! Dry, stale bun (not steamed - no poppy seeds), incredibly mediocre hot dog - lacking flavor, small smear of mustard, very little relish or onion, crudely cut cuke (almost as big as the hot dog) and tomato slices (very under ripe and again bland). I honestly feel you could find a better dog just about ANYWHERE ELSE. Fries were very good & cooked to order. Drive a few minutes further east & go to Portillo's!

Went here a LONG LONG LONG time ago! I was partial to my local hot dog stand, Smoke House, but this was awesome when I had it when I was little! Grandma and Grandpa grew up around the corner! Anyways, John Kass mentioned this in his newspaper column today and it brought back a ton of memories of my FIRST CHICAGO STYLE HOT DOG! it was from Teddy's (although it was the Downers location). I had a gyros here! I don't always eat hot dogs, but when I do, (bun and all) it is Chicago style! Take that, Joey Chestnut!

Portillos and Kombs - FORGETABOUTIT. Teddy's Red Hots is the REAL DEAL for Italian Beef Sandwiches and Hot Dogs. The beef is very high-quality, lean and tender. Dipped and you will have yourself a 5-STAR Beef Sandwich!!! The hot dog sandwiches are the real-macoy Chicago Style Hot Dog. Fries: too delicious to describe using words. Mouth-watering, fresh cut, perfectly cooked to a crispy outside and tasty inside. Yelpers, do not pass this one up. Go there today, order a dipped Beef Sandwich with sweet peppers and a hot dog with everything. Your tummy will celebrate after each swollow!!!!!

Teddy's not only has great beef and dogs, but also the best cheeseburgers on a pretzel bun. I've been coming for years, and the food is always hot (made to order) and top quality. Keep up the good work, Teddy's!

I like their Italian Sausage but they do not offer red sauce on it. Most other Italian Beef and Sausage places that I go to offer this as an option like giardinera and sweet peppers. Combos are good as well as Polish Sausages. They will do a Polish Sausage dressed as a hot dog which is my preference.

The food was okay it took me 10 minutes to get my food and absolutely no one was in the place and all I ordered was a hotdog. I do plan on returning but it is not my first choice to get a hotdog. The hotdogs are real Vienna beef so I do give them credit for that.

Real look of a hot dog joint, add in -expensive- prices, small portions, and what you get is a RIPOFF! Thanks for nothing, Teddy's, you suck. It's all about the almighty dollar.

We drove by and saw this place and decided to give it a shot. We got the chili dog and the Chicago dog. Both were great. My daughter thought it was amazing. Glad we stopped by to give it a try!

In the area and craving a Chicago dog or beef sandwich? Then forget about the lines at Portillo's and get over to Teddy's. They've got the best dogs around, and they prepare them in about 25 seconds. Delicious!

I've been driving past this place every Monday when I take my dog to obedience class. It looked awesome from the outside so I decided to stop in one night and give it a try. The service sucked. I stepped up to order and the woman behind the counter looked like she couldn't be bothered with me. I'm not a fussy customer, I know how awful the public can be. All I did was place an order with no special requests either and I got a ton of attitude. Even when I gave her my credit card, she gave me a shitty look back. It made for a very awkward couple minutes as my hot dogs were being made. The food itself was meh. I love hot dogs but nothing here set them apart from anywhere else I have visited. Their menu looked pretty good but with crappy counter service, I'll spend my money somewhere else.

So it's about time I reviewed this place and I feel bad because I should of done it a long time ago. This place has been there for at least 20+ years, so they must be doing something right. I've been coming to this place ever since I can remember so honestly I can say I've had everything on their menu, besides some of the new items they added recently. I'll highlight my favorites Hot Dogs: All beef hot dogs, which I believe are Vienna Beef brand. Steamed buns, always consistent, never disappointing. All the fixings always tasted fresh too. Italian Beef - I'll admit, it's been a while since I've had a plain one, I usually have my with cheese (Mozzarella). I would rank their beef above Portillo's and Buona. Chicken Sandwiches: In a previous review, someone mentioned that they don't have a grill, I have a feeling this person must be blind because you can't miss it when you place your order, it's directly behind the counter. I love this sandwich because they marinate the chicken and then grill it, served on a wheat bun with mayo, L&T. Italian Ice: It must be homemade and I haven't found any better, even on Taylor St. Love the chunks of lemon you find from time to time. Usually a few different flavors, never had a flavor I didn't like.

I was on my way to Midway and stopped in on a whim. Great decision. The roast beef special was outstanding. It is super juicy, load up on napkins!

The beef sandwich here is very good. Coupled with a Groupon, now you add great value making it a no-brainer stop for me in my home town.

The finest Italian Beef anywhere. Better than Bueno, Portillo's--you name it. Plus, the fries are the crinkly kind and thick and served hot. Love this place

Another place I tried thanks to Groupon. I use to live in this 'hood 10 months ago and passed this place all the time. Believe it or not I'd always choose McDonalds instead. Hamburger -- one of the best I have ever had. Probably the best (I have been giving that title out a lot lately, lol). I also had the cheese fries. I kind of wished I got the jumbo with cheese. I will go back again!! Yum! The guy who ran the register while I was there seemed indifferent but he acted that way to everyone. But the guy who handed me the food was very sweet. I will go back again!

Dropped in for lunch. Had a single red hot, fries, dipped cheesy Italian beef (with hot peppers) and a beverage. The red hot was a bit heavy on mustard but no other complaints on it. They have red cream soda which was tasty! The Italian beef was very tasty, they have thyme in it and I dont like thyme. Overall the meal was too expensive ($12.45) but all flavors were good.

This is my favorite Italian Beef sandwich... without a doubt. Not too rich, lots of beef flavor, and mildly spicy. The Italian sausage is good too, but be sure to ask for it fresh... sometimes they have them a bit dried out from sitting for a while. Oh yean, great fresh fries too - made to order per order.

I don't know what the hell these people are talking about. I came in here for a burger and they don't even have a grill. Great, so I had a dog with huge wedges of tomatos and a pickle. Where is this wonderful hotdog that I read about? It had no taste to it. The fries would have been really good if they were cooked enough. The rootbeer that I got myself was top notch.

Been watching what I eat, but had a Groupon to use for this place and didn't want to let it go to waste. I had the chicken sandwich and it was great. Grilled lean breast on a whole wheat bun, very tasty. According to my kids the dogs were great and the fries were good. I'll stop by again if I'm in the area and the kids want some dogs and I can still get something reasonably healthy.

I finally tried Teddy's because I bought the Groupon. I went in an tried a standard Chicago dog and fries. After mentioning the groupon, the man at the register hit a bunch of buttons and then accepted my groupon. I sat there eating my food and added up the amount in my head. The guy at the register added ten dollars to my bill only to take that amount of, essentially negating my groupon. The red hots were standard and really nothing special, but ripping me off like that really turned me off from this location. It was out of my way to get here, so I won't be coming back.

YUM! Love just about everything. Even though the menu is not that big the food they do have is great as well as the desserts! Try it! :)

This little hot dog place is for the serious hot dog enthusiasts. The buns are steamed to perfection and the hot dogs, the finest quality and a wonderful assortment of different toppings available. The best part for me was the italian ices they offer, so many flavors so little time left in the season but well worth the cold:) The prices are moderate and affordable, and they also offer roast beef to take home by the pound.

Not sure what the difference is between the Plainfield location and the Main St. I would not compare the hot dogs to Gene and Jude's or Jimmy's in Chicago (they both have fresh cut fries) but they aren't bad. What I like is the Cheeseburger. Its grilled and takes a few minutes. they toast the bun and the burger is good meat and its juicy. Although the place looks like they had their half blind cousin do the last renovation they keep it clean and the the kitchen is spotless. The Italian Beef is Okay ( not great but worth a try ) and the Italian ice is wonderful.

Beef = AMAZING Hot Dog = AMAZING Fries = AMAZING They are across the lot from McDonald's, and when my kids want fries with their Nuggets, I stop here to get them. You can NOT beat their hotdog, it's the best and their beef, well i have traveled far and wide to find a better beef, and have yet to find better. Kinda pricey...sure but.... This place ROCKS!

Grew up going here and can't stop, won't stop, get it, get it. Teddy's is solid. And their dogs are great. Their beef is good. And the Italian ice is the best around. If you're around durning lent do yourself a huge favor and stop in for an egg and pepper sandwich you will not be disappointed. And if I needed any more selling points let me say this, where can you still get a fountain red cream soda? Teddy's that where. Same as it ever was, same as it ever was, and that's a good thing.
