I have been coming here after seeing a movie with my family for 20 years. Best fries in the game. The friendly woman at the counter knows us so well that she asks what show we saw, every time! I will hopefully be bringing my children, my grand-children, and great grand children.

I've been coming to Nicky's since the early 90's when a co-worker told me about their gyro plate-UNBELIEVABLE! Even though inflation has doubled the price when I got my first one ($4.25 back in 1993) its still a deal at under $10!! I usually get the fish sandwich special-2 huge fish sandwiches & fries, under $5! They have a great shrimp basket too, over 20 pieces of shrimp & fries, also under $5! Hot dogs are top notch also. These days my stomach can only handle the gyro plate about once a year so I make it an event. I've had better beef sandwiches but hey, nobody is perfect. For the quality of food, the price, and super service, Nicky's carryout on 140th & Cicero is the best take out place on the southwest side. It's the only fast food place I go to but more importantly it is the only one I trust in making my food!

It was almost noon and the place was getting crowded. I ordered the big baby and fries. It was a double cheese burger with onions. There are not that many tables inside, so I took my food to go. When I pulled the paper back from the burger I noticed that they gave me a whole onion still on it's stalk? It was flavorful though. If you want that grease taste for the rest of the day. The fries were no better. Skin on grease balls. I have never thrown out fries, ever! Until today. I am truly sorry to all the people that gave this place 4 and 5 stars. I came in sober on my lunch. I just didn't know?

The portions at this place are incredible. Order the Gyro Plate ($7.99), and get enough food for 5 meals. I recommend adding extra pitas and sauce, as it only includes two pitas and one cup of sauce. They'll put basically a whole lamb in the container. It's so good, and the fries are obviously freshly cut. I love this place and wish it wasn't a 30 minute drive from my house. I've had yet to try anything else on the menu, but I've heard great things about the burgers and hot dogs! :)

There is no other place you could feed a family of 4 for about $10. The gyro plate is massive, comes with the best gyro sauce and fresh tomato, onion and lettuce and fries. The big baby is just 2 patties with onions but it beats White Castles when you crave that beefy onion burger taste. Greek salad is another favorite, best Greek dressing, very light and flavorful. I usually don't eat French fries but they put this kind of salt dust on them that make them so yummy. The girls in there are always so nice and the guys working the grills are always happy to see us, they wave and smile when they see you come back. Love ordering from Nicky's for a football or hockey game ( a night in) also, this is one Carry out place that has never gotten a large order wrong.

Their prices are very low but their food is great. Food is always hot and fresh and portions are huge. I always get the Big Baby (double cheeseburger) everything except raw onion instead of grilled and no mustard and hand cut fries which is enough for two people. I tried the Gyro one time and it was great but I like the Gyro at Rosie's Drive-In 10235 S Cicero Ave., Oak Lawn better, but it costs more.

GIGANTIC GREEK SALAD FOR FIVE DOLLARS! Shut the front door! And it has lots of feta cheese in it. It's too much salad for the container! It can't close! It's insane! INSANE!

Great little spot with super flavorful gyros with a nicely noticeable lamb flavor. The platter was definitely enough for four. Request extra tzatziki sauce (30 cents a piece) cause 1 little cup is not nearly enough. Fries were nice and crispy. The place does a solid and steady business and they are superquick on filling orders. If you are anywhere near here stop in for a very reasonably priced meal.

3 Chicago style hot dogs and a large fry for $4.29, and it's delicious. The gyros plate is also some of the very best in Chicago. I have been a customer of this place for over 15 years, and their food is always very consistently good. The pricing is also great, you get a lot for your money.

Our family's favorite place. We always get the same thing: Italian beef with hot peppers,Grilled Chicken Sandwich with hot peppers and a Big Baby, only one order of fries because you do get a ton of fries. To us, this is a family tradition, we love it here, it is very economical and we love the food. We are not fancy-schmancy, and we keep it real. It is not the best beef I have ever tasted, but it ranks up there, especially for $5. My kid will not have a chicken sandwich from anywhere else. And the big baby is a steal for around $2.50. A large order of fries goes for around $2. The hot dog special is the best around, 3 hot dogs and fries for around $4.25 (it just went up from $3.99), still a great deal.

Not to say that I have never gotten shitfaced at the bowling ally across the street and been so desperate for food, I drunkenly jammed their food down my gullet. ...I have. But how can you rate a gyro? it is the same fatty, oniony mystery meat from the same factory. The only difference is how much it costs and how much they give you. ...and do you really notice the quality of the foodd when you drunkenly stumble across the street back to the bowling ally nearly getting clipped by a speeding car?

The Gyos was OK, however the french Fries, were probably the worse I've had.. No tatste

Best gyros plate ever. Enough for 4 people and the meat is the best ive ever had! They are also always super nice!

The food is good but the older bleach blonde order taker needs to say hello and thank you. Really? You take money from the patrons and say nothing? You just hand people the food and say nothing? Customer Service woman!

Nickis.. wow so much to say. This place has been around forever and my family has been going here since I could remember. The staff is so friendly. . The main girl there taking orders said she remembered me when I was little! The food is awesome. The hot dog special.. you just cant beat it... 3 hot dogs and a fry for 3.99! And theyre sooo good! Beef, burgers, dogs, pizza puffs, shakes, soup, fries.. its all delicious!!!! Such great prices for such great food!

I moved to Las Vegas nearly a decade a go. No place else brings me back home quite like Nicky's. The gyro plates can feed a small country and they're so good. The hot dogs are top notch, too. Tasty eats and great prices!

when i first started comming here years ago it was great..... now while i do still come here it seems to be falling to the way side. i know things change over the years but as a business you should keep things as good as you had them to begin with...adjust pricing when and where needed as needed but dont falter on quality and quanity. the beef sandwhich used to be unbeliveable......huge lots of beef and delicious....hell big enough to share and sometimes have enough extra beef for left over....now its shrunk quite a bit....still tastes ok when the beef isnt to dried out but not big enough to share anymore. i though have to admit i do like their fries alot..and they are truely best if ask them to be well done...they make them fresh and cook them for an extra minute or two...not overly greasy or burnt..but makes them taste so much better and then of course they are nice an HOT. ! they are good for their gyro dinners, those i do admit too are good. lots of meat and reasonably priced....enough for a good filling meal with left overs ( of course depends on who is eating...lol ) i can get this and have enough for two ppl and usualy little bit of meat left over for 1 or 2 more gyros.... ( the gyro sandwhich alone that they have is a healthy portion too ) the only thing is with the dinner it is the only place that does NOT include a piece of fetta with it....that cost extra and its about $1.50 portion is so so for the money but i like feta so i resort to paying for it. all in all its an ok place service (depending on whos waiting on you ) 3-5 quality/quanty 3 1/2 pricing 4

Good, reasonably priced meals. The hot dogs, fries, and chicken on a bun or pita are solid. Home of the best gyro.

  • Scot Y.

Assolutemente deliciouso i always get the gyro sandwich with an extra pita. Dinner for tonight and lunch for tomorrow. Gotta love a great gyro.

  • Dan E.

Portions and prices are really good. The biggest sellers are probably the gyros and hot dogs. If you get a gyros order the "plate" for $6.99 - you'll get enough food to feed two people. The hot dog special is 3 hot dogs with fries for $3.99. Not a place for the calorie conscious, vegetarians or people averse to fried food. It can be crowded at lunch but the lines usually move quickly.

It just doesn't get any better than Nicky's! I'd love to find Nicky and give him a big wet sloppy kiss right on the lips! While the menu doesn't look much different from other similar places, their portions and prices are spectacular! I'm a huge fan of gyros and this is the best I've found. If you want a great gyro, stop in at Nicky's. I usually get a gyro plate (enough for 4 people), share it with my wife, and then use the remaining pile of gyro meat with some feta for breakfast (scrambled eggs with gyro meat and feta mixed in is great). When ordering a gyro or a gyro plate, my only two suggestions are that you ask for extra gyro sauce and be sure to ask if they can cut the meat with the knife instead of the electric shaver (only one guy knows how to do it right, so if he's not around, they'll tell you they can't do it). Another thing I love about Nicky's is that they have a little bit of everything. Even if you're a vegetarian, you can get their big salad for about five dollars and it's enormous. I'm a huge fat man and I can't even finish it! Stemming from that, I also need to mention how fresh their produce is. When you get a burger, a gyro, a salad, or what-have-you, your lettuce, tomatoes, onions, etc. are fresh, crisp, clean, and flavorful! They've got some of the most potent onions around, too! Head to Nicky's! You won't be disappointed!

I've been a vegetarian for about a half decade now. The whole "missing" meat thing is a distant memory. I'm even starting to think that veggie hot dogs taste good. Meat? Who needs it? Okay, so I don't. Don't even crave it. Except for when I drive past Nicky's and my brain goes soft and my long dormant meatosaurus cravings smack me upside my veggie loving head. It's the gyros. Oh, gyros. Nicky's gyros. My favorite south suburban spot for gyros (though Munster gyros will always reign supreme in my gyros loving heart). How I miss the gyros plate that would feed me for at least three meals for less than $7.00. Those yummy strips, tender and yet crispy on the edges, onion, tomato, and tzatziki sauce...yum! It's the only meat dish I still crave after all these years. I still hit up Nicky's. My omnivorous friends love come here with me so I can watch them grub up on the gyros--which they reassure me are still delicious. I get my snack on with their delish hand cut fries and I am always a sucker for cheese sticks. But mostly, I go in for the free gyros smells. ;) In any case, Nicky's is hard to beat for gyros in the area. Make sure you have cash on the ready since they don't take plastic and the ATM they installed hits you with a fairly steep fee...and no matter how good the food may be, that sort of thing always stings.

We came here after church on a Sunday and was out in 15 minutes. I had an order of their cream of chicken and rice soup. It was homemade with these big chunks of chicken inside of it! I L-O-V-E-D it and I also had to get a pita bread with a side of their gyro sauce. There sauce is the B-E-S-T! It deserve 6 stars! My husband enjoyed a double-cheesburger and fries(yes,I had some of that too and it was gwood). Everything was fresh and fast(and minus hair,LOL). It was a typical fast food joint, but I do have to say, that they're clean(dinning room,bathroom,etc.). Would I go back? YES,but maybe next time I will get a gyro.

After writing a review for gold coast dogs and actually mentioning Nicky's as a far superior place, I felt a need to post a glowing review on this outstanding short order style eatery. I always order the Gyro plate when I come here and for a mere 7 bucks, they literally toss about half of a lamb into one of those takeout containers complete with tomatos, onions, and cucumber sauce. Order an extra pita and you have enough food for 2 people. Pure greatness. Bring your A game apetite.

Go in with ten bucks and you've got dinner/lunch for you and a friend. It's a burger joint plain and simple. For the cheaper than eating at a big chain place you can get a fresh grilled hamburger and hand cut fries (the equivalent to the largest chain size for under $2) It's got the basics, Hotdogs, burgers, gyros, etc. When I'm not in the mood to make my own fries I go here. Lines are long at rush times, but it's the wait isn't that long. If you don't want to wait call ahead.

I've been here several times and will probably visit it again tonight since it's only about a mile away from the Crestwood 18 theater. This place is cheap, especially compared to 75% of the north side. Nothing unique really stands out on the menu, but they certainly do have a decent-sized menu and counter service will accurately meet most special requests (i.e. grilled onions at no extra charge, holding off on using some ingredients when possible). Food quality is average to above average for freshness and supplier quality. Food I've ordered/shared: -$3.99 hot dog special-- 3 Chicago style dogs (or any way you like em) and an order of fries -Gyros -- comes with enough meat for two servings, so I usually order an extra pita. -Chicken Gyros-- not quite as plentiful as the original gyros, but still good. -Shakes-- Basic flavors. -Pizza Puff-- Well-balanced. -Cheeseburger-- Normal, flat, 1/4 pound patty, cooked fresh In summary, I come here mainly for the great value.

When we first moved into this neighborhood from the hood of Chicago I was paranoid that we wouldn't find another neighrborhood hot dog joint to enjoy on lazy dinner nights. Well we got lucky! This place is 2 blocks away from my house and this spot is usually the first choice for a lazy dinner night. Prices are very reasonable and food is good. Polish, big babies burger, the gyros are delish! we often get the gyros platter for 3 of us and we still have left overs to make 2 more gyros. The fries are hand cut and are great! Tell them extra crispy and you will get extra crispy!

  • Amanda P.

Really good Chicago-style kosher hotdogs and hand cut fries. There are a lot of other things on the menu, and I'm told it's all good, but I only come here for one thing.

    (5)
  • Dan K.

Get your fries "well done"! That is what I can say about the fries. Now the rest. My brother in law turned me on to this joint. You can't beat the prices. It is funny though. The hotdog deal has gone from $3.99 to what it is now $4.50 (I think). It is a dive joint that Chicago has a bunch of. The ones with the gyro plate, or the hotdog meal, or the burgers. Not much separates one from the other, aside from price, cleanliness, and location. This is out in the burbs of the far south side. I can really only speak to the hotdogs and fries, as that is all i get. The fries are good, but like I said, WELL DONE!. And the hotdogs? They are Chicago STYLE dogs, not actual Chicago dogs. No sport peppers, poppyseed bun, celery salt and cukes. If you added those, I am sure the price would rise. We will usually stop there and get 3 orders of dogs for our trip back East. Overall the price is a 5, service is 4.5, and quality is a 3.5.

    (4)
  • Jason K.

3 hot dogs, with a huge pile of fresh-cut fries, for $4.50. That's an absolutely insane amount of food for that price. And it's good, too!

  • Tim S.

Worst gyro ever. I don't know what was wrong but the spices were bad and it was just bad. Also cash only?

    (1)
  • Lauren C.

The reason I am leaving 3 stars is for the rude & uncomfortable interactions I've had with the staff and because they do not take credit cards. The few times I've grabbed food from here it has been quality.
