Picture this: You're in the Joliet/Crest Hill area (Wait, I am sincerely sorry for forcing you to imagine that, but bare with me) and you're looking for a bar to throw back some cheap beers with good people. Ok ok, so the juke box is usually taken over by someone with bad tribal tattoos and a taste for Nickelback, but there are ways around this. They have one of these new internet jukeboxes, and for a $1 extra you can have your songs skip the rubbish and move along to something pleasing to your ears (unless you're one of those Nickelback lovers). Are you hungry? They have pizza. And popcorn! And if Kristie is there you're in for a surprise treat! Good grief, I hope it's her brat stew. Kristie's brat stew is delectable! Looking to do something besides just saddling up at the bar? There are several boards for darts, a pool table, and in the summer there's a patio to play bags (Watch out for The Lake and don't step on the S.S. Gusto if it has just rained). Need to smoke but it's too cold to go outside? No worries! The back patio gets insulated in the winter and equipped with space heaters! Be friendly with the bartenders and you just might find yourself lucky enough to get one of those old timey wooden coins that you can trade in for a free drink!
If you like dive bars, this is the place to be. This place is truly disgusting. Upon walking in, it reeks of urine. There are cobwebs hanging from the ceiling, and there's a jar full of free condoms. No co2 in their dispensers, so anything requiring carbonation will be flat. A real neighborhood beer and shot lets-get-drunk drunk bar. It gots some potential, though. And I hear the food is good....
This is a old style neighborhood shot and Beer bar. Nothing, and I mean nothing, fancy. But good beer specials and great food. Not sure where they get it, but cooked on sight, must try the gusto burger. Even has an egg on it. Be nice to the bar tenders they will make you feel right at home as if you come in every day. Like Cheers but not as newly decorated. I think It was decorated in the 60's or 70's. Love this place.

On September 1, 2015 I came to this restaurant and I like the layout. As I walk closer to the big menu I noticed that people in the kitchen and prep area we're doing detail cleaning. I don't know about you but I prefer to eat clean restaurants. Since our barbecue a lot myself I bought rib tips hats love ribs, pulled pork, wings, baked beans, potato salad, Cornbread, and cherry pie. Everything tasted great! Now for some ribs and rip tips may be too sweet if you don't like your meat to be sweet. Overall I had a great experience and I got to talk with the owner and his employees. The employees were very informative about the items on the menu. I will definitely eating here again if I come back to the area.
I started visiting this place about a year ago, after the guys on WJOL radio raved about it, and they were certainly right. I've carried out about 5 times, and each time the food has been fantastic. Ribs are excellent, wings as well. The sausage dish feels like it could use something more, but I don't have any idea what it could be. It can be a bit of a long wait if they run out of something, but I've only experienced that once. And it was still worth it. Best ribs I've had, including the national competitors at Ribfest.
Best ribs I've had, ever. I've been here 3x now. Each time is better than the previous. As soon as you walk in, fantastic smoke aroma. Everything is hot and fresh. Onion rings are unreal. Crispy outside, and just melt in your mouth. Awesome to try the 6 different sauces in each table. Lastly, I'm not a 'bread pudding guy'. But I ordered the bread pudding because everything else kicks a$$ here. Wow, it was out of this world. HUGE PIECE, crispy & charred on the outside (cooked on grill), and full of nuts etc. Most definitely worth the $5.00 You can't go wrong with trying this place out.

OH!!! The Poor Boy! Steak with mushrooms, the bread and all that garlic butter! Ask for paper napkins when you order because the cloth ones don't help at all. BTW, I wish we'd ordered the onion rings instead of the relish tray...seems they make their macaroni salad with (stinkin) Miracle Whip (ewww).
After reading mostly good reviews, I was hyped about trying this place out. But I have to agree with most of the neg postings here. Steak poorboy: seemed like hamburger meat to me. Very greasy, which is fine (hence the garlic butter). But I saw many reviews say "extra" garlic butter. Wow their sandwich must be swimming in the plate. Onion rings: definitely home made. But compeltely flavorless. Had to dip/drown in ranch dressing... Double-baked potato: I thought was very good. Some reviews claimed it was too dry. But what do you expect for double-baked. Overall, very over-priced as other reviews say. For just my meal, $25 (tip included) was way too much for what I ate.... Won't be back again :(
-This place is amazing. I have never had anything but the poor boys, and I don't need anything more than that. I have tried them a number of different ways (cheese, onions, etc) and have never had a bad one. -Onion rings and baked potatoes are also a must

I live literally around the corner from AJ's. This is a great neighborhood joint. I get their steak sandwiches most of the time, but have gotten almost everything on their menu. Everything's been good except the soups- they have a different one every day but they taste just like Campbell's or something even more generic than that. I cannot stand ordering on the phone because I always get this guy who talks so fast I can't understand him. But they are fast so to walk in and get your order, it's 10 minutes tops.
The food was good & served fast but the staff was super friendly. They have daily specials. I will be going back regularly
I have been coming here for along time and have always enjoyed the food but one thing that always bothers me is customer service. Either in person or on the phone when the person taking your order has an attitude like its a problem that they had to deal with you is a big problem for not only the owner of the restaurant but customers having to wait for someone to ring them up because they are more concerned with their cell phone makes it very hard to want to return I really like to food but the owner should crack down on the help also your cooks are the best!

Frosty Tips

Right down the street from me, it's a great place to walk and get some nice yummy treats. I like peanut butter and I like that this place HAS peanut butter. So I either get an oreo blitz with pb or a pb milkshake with extra pb. So good. It's now called Dari Delight which really bothers me. Learn how to spell. It's not cute.
Oh yeah, it's summer! My mom and I went here yesterday for a frosty treat in the burning heat. Nothing makes me forget that it's 90 degrees out like a peanut butter shake so thick that it makes your cheeks pucker in like a goldfish. My mom got a dipped cone, which was chocolate/vanilla swirled soft serve dipped in chocolate, at least twice the size of Dairy Queen's (and that was a small size; I can't imagine a large). They also do other dipped flavors; I saw several people leaving with red-dipped cones (strawberry? cherry?) There are so many things on their menu I'd like to try (see my original post), but I tend to stick to a few favorites, because I know they're good! This place does a banner business (they're right by a softball diamond and in a neighborhood), so on a hot night there might be a brief wait. Service seems to move quickly, though. Overall, Frosty Tips is the place for a frosty treat on a toasty summer day. Enjoy!
Soft serve with loads of delicious toppings. Nothing spectacular- they wont dip my cone in cherry and put crunch on it like kicks on 66 on broadway (formerly creamy delight). They insist they can't, but everyone else does it for me! #liars

Sonic Drive-in

1820 Plainfield Rd.
Crest Hill, 60403
Reviews:
My family has eaten at multiple Sonics in several states for years, and this was the worst experience ever. First of all, I think they swapped us to a trainee, because a girl answered our page, put us on hold, and then a guy picked it up. Cue the most inept transaction ever. I always use the Sonic lingo that's on their menu board (#1 combo etc.) because that's presumably what it's there for! This guy seemingly could not figure that out (was it day #1?), and also kept interrupting me before I had my whole order out. You'll know what drink I want when I get to it, but I'm not there yet! Also, my dad just wanted a burger and fries, no drink. Apparently the idea of "no combo" was unfathomable, because the kid was practically arguing with me about it. We don't want it!! Give up the dream! After about three rehashes of our order to ensure it was right (he kept rattling it off too fast to hear), we hoped for the best. We checked the burgers, which were okay, and hit the road. When we got home, we saw that my dad's fries, buried at the bottom of the bag, were so uncooked as to be inedible. My advice to this place would be to not do training during dinner hour (how about 2 pm or something like that?), and to seriously get your act together! We will not be returning to this location; it's closer to my parents' house than the Lockport location, but after this episode, there's no way we're going back.
Sonic is awesome. I remember being so excited when they finally started putting them in Illinois and now that it is here, I can't imagine living without it! The location is fairly convenient and the place is never full. There is the occasional wait for fresh fries but never too long. Being able to choose between the drive through or the drive in is nice too. Everyone has been pretty friendly here and I have never had a problem with anything I have ordered. Of course the Oreo Blast is the best thing on the menu (now available in mini size!), but there is a lot of other good cheap stuff. They have specials too, like half off milkshakes after 8 or drink happy hours. I love Sonics.
Notable improvement in the customer service at this location. I'm happy to share my last two visits were both positive experiences. I found the staff to be helpful, efficient and friendly. The wait time at the window was reasonable and my order correct. As always, the food quality was good and the shakes delicious!

Dunkin’ Donuts

Reviews:
Starbucks is old news. This place has been my jam for a morning kick since back as long as I can remember. The drive thru line moves much quicker than at Starbucks (I feel), since most people don't order multiple fraps here (I suspect), and the service is always above average. Donuts and coffee always taste fresh, and with a little bit of skim milk, I prefer the brew here to Starbucks or McDonald's any day of the week. Much to the dismay of my co-workers. But they can get their own coffee. This isn't about them. It's about Dunkin' Donuts. And where I get my coffee. And why. Because, quite simply, it's in the beans. And these beans are brewed with love.
I come here quite frequently when running errands ir driving towards the city. Thew service is alright. Nothing bad or good to say really. They give you what you pay for and thats that. Everything Ive ordered has always been correct. The food always hot and doughnuts fresh. Occasionally they will put way too much syrup in the iced coffee. I mormally order it light these days
I'm not sure what the employees' normal behavior with customers is but it's ridiculously annoying when the manager is yelling at her employee while he's trying to serve me through the drive though when it's dead slow. Especially when he has to ask me what I ordered four times. Worst first impression.
