Very over priced. Mediocre food. $8.00 for Guacamole? $17.00 for a Carnitas dinner? Will never go back.

We go here once a week and by far they have the best Mexican food in this area. I grew up in the southwest and grew accustomed to the spicy flavors, but everything around here seems watered down and bland- not Ramon's! The Durango plate is amazing. I love the Carnitas as well. It all starts with their homemade salsa. Love it!

My family and I had the best experience ever at a Mexican restaurant. The food was delicious and the service was excellent! My wife has a food allergy and the owner took the time to check the dishes we ordered. He even double checked and reported back to us on all the items they served. Terry, our server paid special attention to all our needs. I recommend the carnitas plate. Great place! You will not be disappointed.

I've been coming to Ramon's since I was a little girl so this place will always hold a special place in my heart. I can't remember ever ordering something other than the Sope. It is phenomenal. The price hasn't fluctuated much either in 20+ years -- $5.50, delicious and filling. The salsa is spicier than most places, but again that gets bonus points with me. The staff is always friendly and there's a certain waiter who I'm pretty sure is immortal as he seems to never age. Tonight a friend and I dined and had a great experience. She ordered the steak fajitas which definitely looked delicious. Tuesday's = $3 margaritas and $2 Coronas. I can't stress enough that you must try the Sope. A wonderful diamond in the Collinsville rough.

This place is horrible. I wouldn't recommend it to anybody. Over priced and not authentic at all. I'm a former employee here. I worked in the kitchen for over a year so I've seen it all. The bosses mistreat the staff and steal their money. Checks come up short on hours and they deny that it's wrong. Customers will sometimes give tips to the cooks but the boss will keep them for him self with out telling us. Also nobody here has actually been trained to handle food before. We just get thrown on the line and they expect us to learn over night or something. The food here is definitely not fresh. Usually a week old. There was on instance were a bin of chips was spilled and the boss told everybody to leave the kitchen and he was going to "Clean" it up..when he left the kitchen the bin of chips was somehow full...sketchy right.? The bosses don't care about this place. Their here maybe 50% of the time. There was one time where I came into work and nobody was in the kitchen! The servers were making the food, running food out and cashing people out! Pathetic, not to mention that the bosses sister told me that would never become anything in life! Can you guys believe that? I quit that very same day.

Eating at Ramon's is like eating straight from the Eldoradan tap I should know, i have been there. The food is very authentic , the mole sauce is one of the best i've had and the margaritas are right on point as well.

Ramon's is a pretty good Mexican restaurant. The food there is average and the salsa is nice and spicy. I have eaten there a few times and have never had anything bad but never been great neither. The restaurant is nice and big and their margaritas are pretty good too. Wish the portions were a little bigger but they do give you free chips and salsa.

I have been dining at Ramon's for nearly 40 years. My family starting eating at Ramon's when there were just a handful of tables and it was "BYOB". I remember the first time I brought my boyfriend out with me to eat with the family in the late 1970's at this "great Mexican" restaurant he thought I was joking when we pulled up out front. I have had many many fond memories and celebrations at Ramon's over the years. Ramon would always make it a point to stop by our table and welcome us and often times would sit down and have a drink with our family. The strolling musicians were always an added bonus. The last several times I have dined at Ramon's it just hasn't been the same. Two weeks ago, we had a large group on a weekend night. Despite the restaurant being half empty we waited over a half an hour for a table. When I inquired with the hostess she said they were having difficulties getting a waitress to wait on a large table. If it were me, and I had to ask a wait staff if they wanted to take on a large table, the the entire wait staff would have been fired if any of them even hesitated. My group actually decided this weekend to go to the one of the other Mexican restaurants in the area. It was "packed" and we were told that the wait would be an hour. The group recultantly decided to give Ramon's another chance and while we were told the wait would be 25-30 minutes we waited over an hour despite the fact that a large table that would seat all of us sat empty being waited to be cleand for 15-20 minutes before we finally got seated. While the chips and salsa were very good , the quality of the food just isn't what it used to be. There seems to be less meat in the dishes and more filler. I have ordered the same dish for many years and thee last three times I have ordered it the dish was lukewarm and not hot. (Although it was very good). Between Collinsville and Edwardsville there are 8 other Mexican restaurant choices and unless Ramon's gets with the program I suspect there are others that will be doing the same thing we are and choosing alternatives for our Mexican night out fix.

I have been going to Ramon's since I was a little kid, when it was a tiny restaurant converted from a gas station. So long ago that you used to bring in your own drink. Anyways, after not eating there in a few years, We made a visit. We decided to sit outside and were the only group outside. Drinks, chips, and salsa were brought somewhat quickly. Chips were kind of on the stale side, and salsa seems to be different than what I remember having from there. Not the best I have ever had, but not bad. After being outside for 20 minutes, we were probably forgotten. We then decide to go inside to eat, not a great big deal at this point, just hungry and ready to eat dinner. My Wife orders the queso flameado, then orders STEAK tacos for her and my son. I ordered the carnitas. After about 20 minutes we were asked when we would like the queso flameado. We replied with "asap". The queso flameado comes out in the next few minutes and is cold and looks as if it had been sitting around for quite some time. The queso flameado was surely forgotten about. We declined it as it was nasty cold and hard. Finally our food comes out and the steak tacos are ground beef tacos, not STEAK. My carnitas plate came with onions, tomatoes, and pieces of fried pork. The chunks of pork were literally fried small hard pieces of chewy jerky. The onions and tomatoes were cut and thrown on as a garnishment, not cooked, not warm, just thrown on the plate. So now the beef tacos go back as we ordered steak tacos. I am trying to eat my carnitas, but can't find utensils anywhere. So I sample a few pieces with my hand. After about 10-15 minutes I finally receive utensils. Now my food is like almost cold, but what more can go wrong, huh? I choke down the carnitas plate and then the miniature steak tacos arrive. The tacos hardly had any steak in them, what a joke. I will never be back to visit Ramon's again. The best Mexican food restaurant is called "Casa Romero" and it is located in Waterloo, IL. Stale chips. Watered down margaritas. Every order at our table had something wrong with it. (I.e I said no tomatoes, came with tomatoes. Person next to me asked for sautéed onions, got nothing.) go to Carisilos. Always packed for a reason.

Its been a while since we ate here at Ramon's.. we wont be going back. My husband ordered carnitas.. they were small hard pieces of pork.. inedible actually. My pork chimi had no taste so I was very disappointed. Even worse is the time it took to have this bad food land on our table. The doggie bag we took with us is literally to give to our dogs.

This is by far the best Mexican Restaurant in the Metro area. Family owned, now in the hands of the second generation. The pork dishes are perfect. Ramons cena tropical, the Durango Plate, the Tamales, and the Pork a la carte plate are all wonderful. Portions are large. Refried Beans are worth a visit on their own. The Margaritas are perfect. The staff from family members to the almost family like Jose, are exceptional. After eating at this restaurant for over 20 years, I can say that it still maintains it's quality and destination status.

We shoud have known something was up when we walked in and the place was EMPTY. Yeah, there were two other people eating, but it was a Monday night at 7:00 pm. The chips and salsa and guacamole dip was good, the margaritas were a little to sweet for our taste and the $2 Coronas was a good deal. However, then it was time for the food to arrive. EEEEEEEK! We live in Los Angeles and have our pick of excellent Mexican food restaurants but this is the first for us - french fries served on top of the chicken fajitas accompanied with only onions. No green or red peppers. Hmmmmm? I always thought beans and rice was the appropriate side dish, but fries? Then came the carnitas plate with onions. CHUNKS of fried pork. The chunks of pork were literally fried to the point of being small hard pieces of shoe leather. The onions were cut and thrown on as a garnishment, not cooked, not warm just plopped on the plate. Someone else at the table had the same thing and didn't finish an 1/8 of the dish as well. One suggestion, if you are thinking about eating here - DON'T! It is simple. DO NOT DO IT. Go to Taco Bell for a lot less money.
