Not gonna lie....this place has saved me from my hangovers at various points in my life. Cheeseburger and fries special? Yes please! Yangos basically has all the grease joint staples - fish sandwich, chicken sandwich (MASSIVE, btw), pizza puffs, cheese fries, fried mushrooms, gyros. Best fountain drinks in the 'hood, too. The best part of the Yangos experience is the man taking the orders. He definitely crack me up, but I would NOT want to get on his bad side. Love this place!

Yango's is the best value in Chicago. Yango serves way more food for fewer $$$, and you can gab with him about the Cubs all afternoon. The Two burger deal is the best value, but the Gyro is the best.

It is what it is. Don't come here if you want fancy, healthy burgers and ambience. Come if you like good ol' burgers and crispy thin fries and do not want to spend more than $10. I don't know if it was a bad day or not but it would have been nice to have mustard and ketchup bottles that weren't crusted. I mean, mine get that way too and I just did what I always do, cleaned it before I used it. But you know, it is what it is. And I'd go back. Not often and I don't even know when, but if I'm around and I'm hungry, I'd go back.

Needed some hangover food and stopped here this afternoon. Cheeseburger was tasty, if a little soggy. Fries were crispy but lacking salt. Diet coke was on point. All in all, a meal worthy of the $8 price. Would definitely go back!

I have not been here in a long time. I just checked yelp to see if it was still open. I'll be stopping by. Yango used to say "I extra cook-a-da fries for you, my friend.' He's awesome.

Two cheeseburgers and a mountain of perfectly thin, crispy, salty fries for $4.95. You're welcome, hangover. The patties are much thinner than the standard burgers, so if you just want a lot of food for not a lot of dough, go with the special. Otherwise I do recommend the regular cheeseburger for more meat. I liken their burgers to a cross between Burger King and Five Guys. Yango's is perfect for two reasons that we have all experienced. 1. Hangovers and 2. Mopey days. Nothing will get you through either quite like a big fat burger, a vat of cheese sauce to dip those salty sticks of perfection and perhaps a great big chocolate milkshake. An actual milkshake, not that lewd crap the hotdog stand down the road is peddling. +Bring cash. They prefer it to credit, esp if your order is under $10 +Say hi to Yango, he's a riot +Grab extra of their ketchups. It's so good and I have no idea why +They close at 10pm so get your drunk on early +Try the Polish sausage and report back. I'm curious, but not enough to deviate from my burgers

As someone who loves having his body filled with cheeseburgers, I feel like I need to go sit on the floor of my shower with the water running and cry. Like a 16 year old girl reading a positive pregnancy test, I'm faced with the horror of knowing that I have a huge mistake inside my body. The only difference is I didn't get to experience going twenty toes. I had high hopes for this place. I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed.

Yango is the best! My favorite place to go when I need junk food! The best cheese fries, mmmmmmm! Yango is always happy to see me, and makes me feel appreciated !

I can't speak for the rest of the menu, but the gyro combo is amazing! You watch them shave the meat to put on your gyro in front of you. Mr. Yango is always friendly and the prices are awesome. Love this place!!

The 2 cheeseburger special for 5.65 is a nice deal, and charbroiled and tasty too! What's not to like. Loads better than lukewarm francise food.

Incredibly rude service on top of mediocre food. No thanks, won't be back here again.

Good service on this bright sunny Saturday afternoon. One busy day as spring is jumping and the place is less than full. Bad sign. I ordered the gyros special, and waited , and waited and... Well the food was way over cooked. The meats was crisp, and the peta was so dryed out I couldn't eat it. I took it back and walked. If you go, tell the girl at the counter, easy on the heat.

Whenever I need a solid quick meal for a carry out, I stop in at Yango's Burgers, which has been is the same location for decades. Once you place your order, you can watch your food being prepared since all of the meals are cooked to order. Within a reasonable amount of time, you will receive the order without any mistakes all under $10. I have had everything from the cheeseburgers to the shrimp basket. They are very generous with the fries. I have noticed this restaurant has a large carry out business. If you do choose to dine in, this diner has plenty of tables to dine at. You will also notice how clean this place is. Go enjoy this great diner.

Greasy! For some of you, that's exactly what you're going for so don't mind my review. For me, that's not my game, so I'll be going elsewhere. These definitely seems like a great place for college students or those that have been drinking as that's usually the solution for most! This is definitely a Lincoln Park dive, but I doubt anyone is stopping by for atmosphere here, let's face it. People want a greasy burger and fries!

  • Michael H.

My default place when I want a cheap meal. the special (2 burgers and fries) is a crazy good value. nice portion sizes and fresh. $5. He doesn't bother with change. Only 4 stars since I've heard Yango drop the N bomb a couple times.

  • Eeeee L.

We have a big love for this place. Yango and "Mrs. Yango" are neighborhood staples, and they and their staff crank out some delicious, affordable food. Lakeview is starting to get so uppity and chain-commercial-ridden, and this is an oasis of original charm on Broadway. Highly recommended. Their shaved beef and the variety of dogs/sausages are the best cure for Chicago winters.

I walk by this place everyday, and had yet to stop in! I'm so glad I finally did! Love the couple who obviously own the place, they are so adorable and so friendly! They are a little hard to understand, but it's all good! The best fast food joint for a good greasy cheeseburger and crunchy fries! Plus it was so conveniently priced! I highly recommend if you are not worried about dieting! Plus I got it to go and my fries were still crispy 8 blocks later!

  • Ravi G.

Great little place right off broadway and diversey known for its 'special.' I'd come here everyday if I wouldn't get fat from all the eating but its a awesome for going out for a quick casual bite. They also have a couple tvs in there that show whatever games may be on that day. Wall is decorated with some old fashioned pictures and which is nice and the place is kept tidy and clean. The food was good and you get more then what you pay for. The burgers are like burgers you'd get if you were casually bbqing in your backyard, meaning nothing fancy or amazing but still delicious. Fries were plentiful too and good. 4 stars for price, quantity, and satisfaction!

I can go either way about Yangos since it's a typical greasy spoon I usually one- or two-star but there are so few Gyros places in the neighborhood run by real Greeks that it's nice they make an attempt to keep things running smoothly. Just lay off the cellphone, or the owner will tell you, "no cellphone." Hey, if I had a place I'd probably get tired of Lincoln Park ex-frat dudes and girlie trixies yapping loudly on their mobiles. Very typical gyros place. Never tried their burgers but their gyros sandwich and fries is fine. Don't order the platter unless you are hungry...and I mean super hungry. OK, here's a cute story and the real reason I can't give this place anything less than three stars (even though, honestly, they deserve two): Five months ago my best friend and I walked by this place. He's lived in the East Lakeview area his whole life--his dad was an immigrant from Yugoslavia and settled in the area. So when I twisted my friend's arm and entered, the owner looked at him twice and asked, " Your name is Paul, yes?" My friend said yeah and they proceeded to converse a little bit. Turns out--ready for this?--my friend's dad went here for years back when my friend was really little. Yango remembered my friend's dad from like 30 years ago and remembered Paul from when he was a little boy. How cool is that? Cool enough to keep us going back for more.

I've been going to Yango's occasionally for a few years now. If you want a nice big not-so-healthy hamburger and fries, they are a pretty good choice. They give larger portions than a lot of other burger joints, with lots of whatever toppings you prefer, and ample supplies of ketchup and so on. They have pretty good fries as well, and again the portions are large. The shop is run by an older couple who have been there for quite a while. There are a bunch of tables and the walls are decorated with Chicago memorabilia from the 50s 60s etc. It's the closest thing to a classic burger diner that I've seen in the neighborhood.

*to the moderator: this location is marked incorrectly on the map, and is located at 2845 N Broadway between Diversey and Surf St ( goo.gl/maps/uTc8 ) in Lakeview, not Edgewater. I feel like this is a tad more expensive and a little less delicious than Branko's on Fullerton. Nevertheless, a great place to go to if you feel like munching on fries and a good nice burger or pita sandwich. An old couple works the register; you'll find yourself repeating your order once or twice, but no biggie.

  • Marlon F.

I've only been to this place twice and have only had their burger special. But from my experience this place is damn good. There is a special for two burgers, and fries for $4.95 I believe. It's always listed in the window. The burgers you get are nice sized, more than enough food for one hungry person, and a good amount for two people. Also of note, they use Heinz Ketchup which I like. It's not that sweet knock-off "catchup" or whatever. The older guy who works the counter the times that I have been there, Yango, I guess, he is really friendly. I'm not too sure if they take credit cards all of the time, because on my first visit the person behind the counter accepted my credit card, but when I came back the next day (see, it is good) he claimed the credit card line or whatever was down. So that day it was cash only. All in all, I would DEFINITELY recommend this place. Just make sure you bring cash too.

Yango's is nothing fancy but they make some tasty fast food. I live around the corner from here and every day when I pass by on my way home from work I am hit with the smell from the grill coming out of the vents and it takes almost all my willpower to forge ahead and make something to eat at home instead of stopping into Yango's for dinner. On the days I do give into temptation I typically get the grilled chicken sandwich and a side of fries. The chicken is marinated in deliciousness before grilling it up so it's extra flavorful. The fries are shoestring and nice and crunchy and they're never overdone. Occasionally I will veer from the regular and get a chicken gyro (really good) or a burger (not the best I've ever had but pretty decent). Always with fries. Yango himself is just a lovely guy. Always so nice whenever I come in and when I pass him on the street we always say hello. Other staff I've had help me have been equally nice and chatty. I love to give this place my business.

  • Ellie R.

This place is good if you come here knowing what you're about to get: cheap, deliciously greasy comfort food. The portions are quite generous and everything tastes pretty good especially considering the price. My boyfriend's chicken sandwich was enormous, and my cheeseburger wasn't much smaller. The fries were a bit excessively greasy but otherwise I really enjoyed the meal. Definitely plan on coming back here.

  • Arelys V.

One star for making edible food and another star for being in a great location. Minus a million stars for the rude man that works at the front taking your order. He is one of those men you can't argue with because he's just grouchy. Maybe that's part of the feel of the place, but it's not for me. I'm all about customer service. Went in there and wanted two cheeseburgers and some fries. I got charged $10.79 when the special is on the freaking wall for $4.65. I guess you can blame it on me, but he ASKED everyone else if they wanted the special and he never asked me so I assumed. I got about two extra bites of burger for $6 extra. Never going back.

After retail therapy, the need for sustenance runs high. Yango's is perfectly located to get your eat on. Just follow your nose to some yummy cheeseburgers. Literally, you can smell the burgers from the World Market across the street. These burgers aren't fancy, not by any stretch. There's no combination of three different cuts and yada, yada, yada. No artisan buns. No baby greens. Just your very nicely done greasy spoon burger, and I LOVE it. Yango's has a bunch of specials, the most popular being the two cheeseburgers and fries for 6 bucks. Looking forward to trying the gyro's next.

  • Marshall B.

I come here craving a burger, I get the 2 burger and fries special for 5 bucks, I am not expecting perfection when it comes to food this cheap, but the burgers tasted horrible, very rubbery, no flavor, and worst of all my fries had been microwaved. Microwaved fries? Who does that, apparently Yangos does. Do not come here the food is trash.

    (1)
  • Melissa D.

2 burgers and fries for 4 bucks? Yes please and Yangos has it. I stopped in one day to pick up a togo order for me and the bf. The man behind the counter, Mr. Yango?, was super friendly. It took a little while because they cook the burgers made to order, which I am a huge fan of. Steaming hot and full of grease. Yum. They fries are really good too. I mean, I haven't really tried a fry that I haven't liked, but these were pretty good. This is a small, I think about 8 tables, local shop that has been around forever. It's worth stopping in.

THE place if your looking for Gyros. But be prepared to pay for it :) As much as I like this place, I think the plate price of this dish is a but pricey, but I cant really complain too much since I get free refills since the owner knew my dad! LOL. But this is the place if you need to feed your urge for hamburgers, hot dogs, gyros, etc. Your typical greasy spoon, but it looks like they try to keep it clean. The owner, Yango, has been here forever - and I'm sure will be missed once he retires - but that doesn't look like that's happening anytime soon. Where I will go for Gyros when that happens - I know not. I still miss Sparta Gyros on Broadway! Wahhhhh.

I've been curious about this greasy little joint since I moved to this 'hood. As of yesterday, it's no longer shrouded in mystery. Yangos is legit. 100% all-beef patties, never frozen and crazy juicy. $3.65 for a made-to-order cheeseburger with all the fixins'. The lettuce was cold and crisp, exactly the way it should be on a hot burger. The owner seemed shocked that I didn't want fries, but hey, sometimes a girl just wants to focus on a delicious burger. The fountain diet was especially good too. I'll be back to chow down more cheeseburgers Mr. Yango, don't you worry.

Darn good place for chicken sandwich and red hots!

    (5)
  • Jonathan H.

Much to my wife's chagrin I love Yango's. Where else can I get two burgers and fries for under 4 dollars? I mean really. While the grease content is high, that is what makes the burgers so good. I am always a fan of small shops that have been around forever. I haven't ever tried the "& Stuff" mentioned in his sign, but I'm always happy with what I get.

  • John O.

Blah this place is pretty mediocre. I've gotten hot dogs, polish, and burgers here, none of which was remarkable. The staff is friendlier than the Wiener Circle, not that means much, but the food was nowhere near as good. I guess I only go here drunk and because it's close by. Quite honestly I don't think I'll be back. Sorry Yangos! The food is edible and it's in a good location, but everywhere around there can say better.

  • Joseph S.

Great greasy food joint. Tastes better when slightly inebriated.

    (5)
  • Joshua C.

Yango's is a greasy spoon through and through, and there are reasons to go there and reason not to go there. You don't go there for non-diner foods or to be wowed by the decor. You don't go there for a to take in the culture of a cuisine. And you sure as hell don't go there to feel healthy. No. You go there for the two cheeseburger special and the gyros. You go there for ketchup out of a squeeze bottle and salt. You go there for soda, or pop if you're so inclined. And you go there for Yango (if that's actually his name), and to be served by a guy who's been doing it the same way for years. Go there when you're hungover, in the hours before the hangover, or if you're just in the mood for something fried. It's great.

  • Stephanie G.

This place is great! The first time you go, you get so-so customer service, but you know that the more you go back, the more friendly they will be. The prices are a bit steep, but they certainly do not short you on the portion sizes. I always get the italian beef; they give you enough meat to make 3 decently-sized sandwiches. This is definitely the type of place that gets better the more often you go. Yango got to know me so well, he passed me on the street, waived and said "Hi, Honey!" These are honest to goodness people!

    (5)
  • Camille R.

Went here for the first time yesterday with my boyfriend because we always wanted to try it out! Passed by this place so many times and the "2 burgers + fries" deal for $4 dollars and some cents seemed too good to be true! My boyfriend wanted to get two of the special instead but I thought we would be fine with just one. Boy, was I wrong. The burgers were so amazing that my boyfriend and I were fighting to eat both. So juicy and good. The fries weren't that great though, but what do you expect for this price?! I will definitely be coming back. This deal is awesome!

    (4)
  • Stephanie O.

I work at the TJ Maxx across the street so I love to pay a visit to Yangos to get a deal on their burgers. The first time I went in there, Mr. Yango had a long conversation with me about working across the street. The next time I came in to get a pop, they gave it to me for free! They are super generous & low cost. Also, good food!

    (5)
  • Jake C.

Another classic dive! Yango's serves classic gyros, burgers, hot dogs, and the like, in tacky Chicago-style splendor. The chicken gyros is my favorite. Yango himself (I assume the old geezer is him) welcomes one and all from behind the counter. Food is good, fast, and cheap. Tons of free newspapers lying around to read while you wait and while you eat, if you go there alone. Located on Broadway, just north of Diversey, across from the Bed Bath and Beyond. Highly recommended, especially compared to all the overpriced yuppie joints nearby.

    (4)
  • Isaac H.

A cheap no thrills joint to pick up your garden variety greasy meals, ranging from cheese fries to chicken tenders and gyros. Sitting is limited, and I myself have been accustomed to pick up to go. The interior isn't what you would call an "enticing" venue to chill out in. The owner is a pretty nice guy, willing to spark up some light conversation. I must admit though, that I do have a hard time understanding him sometimes, but what can ya do.

  • Bob E.

I ordered the Chicago Dog w/ Fries and Drinks. Dog was loaded and the pile of fries was more than I could finish. I prefer authentic non-chain restaurants that locals would frequent -- this definitely fit the bill. After reading some of the other reviews have to say I had a slightly different experience. The older gentleman at the counter was friendly in his own unique way and extremely appreciative when I complimented them on the food. As for the price, I felt like it was on par for the amount of food I received. Considering I had spent almost $7 on a coffee earlier that day somewhere else, getting a tasty lunch from a unique place for the same cost seemed like a deal!!!

    (4)
  • Stephanie L.

Great place for your greasy fix. Its hilarious. Super cheap...they always have burger and fries deals. Also, they have SHAKES! Total greasy spoon so if your not in the mood for that...dont go here

    (3)
  • Julie K.

When I'm craving a decent, cheap burger and fries within walking distance, this is where I go. It's not a gourmet or pub burger, but it's a large burger, it's cheap, it tastes good, and it's served by nice people. The fries are nothing special, somewhat like McDonald's fries, but they are decent. If you get the two burgers with fries for $4.95 special, it's more than enough for two meals. One of the better neighborhood quickie burger/pita/chicken sandwich/etc. greasy spoon places I've been to.

    (4)
  • Emilia W.

What an awful experience! First of all, I was charged for a cup of tap water - something that has never happened before anywhere. The food was super greasy and expensive. Yes I understand it's a fast food place but to pay 9 bucks for something this nasty is pretty ridiculous. The guy at the register (I'm guessing that must have been the owner) was unpleasant and rude. Furthermore, the register doesn't print receipts so I'm guessing he doesn't pay taxes on half of what he's making. When I asked for a receipt, the guy acted like he was doing me some huge favor. He scribbled some stuff down on a piece of paper and gave that to me as the receipt. It was so messy that I couldn't even read it. My mom had a burger and she said that was alright, but the gyro I got was gross. Try one if you want a stomach ache!

  • Dani P.

I'm embarrassed to say that I've lived around the corner from this place for almost 10 years and had never tried it until today. I decided to try it out after reading some of the Yelp reviews and as a last hurrah since I will be drastically cutting back on the amount of meat in my diet. I had the two cheeseburger special for $4.65 which includes fries and a drink. The burgers were tasty, although a little more charred than i prefer. Fries were good but not the best. Yango is an old man who works behind the counter so I like the idea of supporting a local family business. Overall a good deal for a quick meal and if you have a taste for burgers.

    (3)
  • Blake R.

I love being a regular here. The place has a ton of character for a fast food restaurant and also has decent prices. My favorite would be the two cheeseburger and fries deal for $5. So much better than McDonald's. Yango is a great owner and the workers usually chat it up with you to kill the time. The food is not terrible, but it is fast food. I think one should know not to expect a five course meal when they decide to get fast food. If you're in the area and don't have a lot of time or money, Yango's is the perfect place!

    (4)
  • Daniel B.

Had this place today and it was A-OK. At least that's what it says on the yelp-o-meter. Better than McDonalds, but nothing about it makes me have to come here again. I had a chicken pita that was cooked to order and came out hot. The fries were fresh of the fryer and hot to the touch, which is a plus. I give them an extra star just for that. Some places you get fries that have been sitting under a lamp for a good day or two. The meal was just ok it wasn't lighting my mouth on fire to be honest. It was just average greasy food. I will say that the price of this place might make me not come here again. 10 dollars for average fast food, just doesn't do it for me. The lady behind the counter was very nice, so maybe next time I'll just get a hot dog.

    (3)
  • Monica B.

I LOVE YANGO. Dude is hilarious. The food is typical delicious grill fare - the chicken sandwich is especially good. It's cheap, it's greasy, and Yango has been slinging it for decades. The decor is all him, especially the sign that I SWEAR I will own one day: "Hippies must use back entrance. No exceptions."

    (5)
  • Laura S.

OK, so it's not that impressive from the outside. Or really the inside, either. You might just pass it by on appearances alone. And once you get inside, you normally have the pleasure of talking to Yango, who seems to be hard of hearing and is also rather incomprehensible. Don't be fooled! This is greasy spoon dining at its finest. Their burgers are cooked to order, juicy and greasy without making you feel completely disgusting afterwards. And as so many mention, the deal of 2 burgers and fries for $4.95 simply isn't rivaled. Embrace the Yango.

    (4)
  • Mike H.

Big portions. Great greasy cheap fast food. Gyros big enough to feed two. Ridiculously large italian beef/sausage combo. Fries are decent but not great, often soggy or not fully cooked through - skip the cheese, not worth it. Service is very friendly and is a good comfort food place in the Lakeview area.

  • Lesley G.

This place is good for what it is. I went for lunch today with a coworker. We split the cheeseburger special (two cheeseburgers and fries) and got a drink each for $8 total. Tough to beat the price. The food was basically what you expect from a greasy burger joint, but on the high end of that category. The fries were fresh and tasty. The guy behind the counter was super nice and even treated our other coworkers nice even though they were being super high maintenance. I'll be back for lunch again sometime.

  • Lindsay B.

This is a great greasy spoon! The food is good, the prices are right, and service is quick. I had a Chicago dog, which was near perfect. My boyfriend ordered a burger with bacon, which was also delicious (of course, I had a bite, or two...). The owner is a bit of a character. He was pretty insistent that I order a combo, which fries and a pop. I didn't want either and he was clearly upset that I didn't go along with his sales pitch. When I ordered a water instead, he scoffed, and I'm pretty sure I was charged the price of a pop for my tap water (there wasn't a receipt for me to double check).

When I first moved to Surf and Broadway, the first meal (Subway doesn't count) I had in the area was Yangos. Wow. It's one of those places where you want to go when you've got a hangover or are watching football at home. I got the burger and it was just OK, but the real money lies in the Italian combo. The beef section is perfectly packed and juicy; the sausage has a little color on it, a little shrivel, and is just the right amount of salty. Better get it with the hot peppers, the giardiniera is awesome. The fries though, pretty meh. They're ok to help soak up the grease, but I usually don't finish them (travesty), so minus one star. The owner is super Chicago too, you can barely understand him and he's always got sports on his little TV in the corner, but it's a fun environment nonetheless.

  • Joon M.

I love Yango, he's a doll. His wife is cool too. I always get excellent service & savor the veggie cheeseburgers. My family love the gyros & always look forward to the cheese fries.

  • Laura L.

Yango's is a great little place. The owner is a character, and the rest of the staff is friendly too. The food is cheap, but satisfies that craving for a burger or gyros and fries. I usually get my food to go and bring it home on my way back from work or errands because seating is limited and it seems to have turned into much more of a to-go joint.

    (4)
  • Sean L.

I live around the corner from Yango's, so I have had my fair share. It's pretty good for your money. If you're expecting gourmet, don't waste your time, but if you want a decent meal for not too much money Yango's is It. Also, Yango is probably one of the friendliest store-owners I have run into. It can be hard to understand him at times, but he will talk your ear off.

So, I've had a burger or two here whenever I was in the area shopping. But now that I live just down the street, I've been here quite a few times this past week. I never knew that they had the $5 special (two burgers and fries) until i saw it on their window. A pretty good deal I think. While the burgers aren't the best in the world... when you are lazy to cook, tired and broke from moving, the cheap eats here will suffice. Their fries would remind me much of In 'N Out fries back home, if they were fully cooked. I've also tried their hot dogs (and they were alright). I'll be back definitely, and they also deliver ($3 fee)...

When I'm between errands on a Saturday, or maybe as I come back from Chicago Comics greedily clutching an armload of reading material, I'll stop here knowing it's cheap, fast, and good. I saw the two-cheeseburgers and fries for under $4, and I thought it was one of those old advertisements diners regularly plaster on their walls for ambiance. But no, it was real! And best yet, they offer Boylan sodas, which are chock full of real sugar and taste great; I recommend the Wild Cherry. I haven't had anything here but burgers and fries, but that's all I need. Sure, Clark is rife with hot-dog huts and broadway is similarly paved with restaurants of every description, but this is the only one with good quality burgers and Gyros without breaking the bank. But be careful of poor Yango, he's hard of hearing and may ask you several times to repeat your order. It's ok, though... his wife generally gets the message to the grillmaster in back. ;)

I really like going to this place after class for late night eats. The portions are very generous and tastes great (I usually get the Chicken Gyros Platter). And by portions, the meat to veggie ratio was usually 5-1. The food was not as greasy to me compare to other gyros places where the wrappers or styrofoam gets stains. The service is very friendly, especially in the time it takes for them to cook your food (it takes a while, when it's busy). Yango (yeah, he's actually there) will actually take the time to talk to you and make it worthwhile to hangout there. Also it does help when they have two TVs showing sports/news as well.

Came here to try chicken gyros for the first time and thought they were great. Fries were crispy and hot. Huge portion was more than enough to fill up both myself and my daughter. My 2 year old daughter ate more than I have ever seen her eat in one sitting. To quote her thoughts on the chicken gyros, "Mmmm, yummy!"

After a meal at Yango's I think about it for a week...only because of the way the back of the chairs are rounded, every time I move or stand up, the chair jabs into my arm and then I get a bruise...but this doesn't happen to anyone else...only me, so watch out if you're prone to bruising. :-) Anyway...super yummy food. I've only had cheeseburgers and cheese fries. Both are good, made to order, and cheap. Lots of good specials. Yango is quite a character, definitely a fun, quick, cheap meal.

I went back in and everyone seemed much nicer. Must have just been a bad day before. The old guy is still very old and not there, but a very nice guy. I got the two cheeseburger and fries special...not as good tasting as the chicken, but still pretty good and you can't beat the price. I'm really starting to love this place with it's old school ungimmicky vibe.

Had the two cheeseburgers and fries special for 4.30 including taxes to go. Pretty affordable! Yango is a pretty nice guy - the caricature of him on the printed menu is pretty spot on! Food was pretty good. The buns were ordinary and the burger tasted alright, but the fries were seasoned well. Still, for 4.30, you really can't complain.

Burgers were disappointing (thin and bland), but does the trick when you want something cheap and quick. Still better then McDonalds, etc...

Yango's provides good food that makes eating cheap all good. Most Yelpers are talking about the yummy burgers and fries, very true. Don't forget to overlook the breakfast here--we were consistently satisfied with the eggs, hashbrowns, toast, sausage, and coffee special. I feel guilty for how little Yango charges for his food, so you gotta leave this friendly guy a tip.

I love this place. I work right next to Yango's so I find myself in there quite a bit. The food at Yango's is great, and the prices are ridiculously cheap, Two delicious cooked to order burgers AND Fries for only five bucks! Not to mention Yango's has amazing Chicken Gyros that are big enough for two people. As for Yango himself, he is by far one of the friendliest, and coolest people you're ever going to meet in the city. After my FIRST time at Yango's, he's remembered me by name ever since. Great food, extremely friendly, fast, family service, all for easily the best prices in the city, what more could you possibly want! Seriously, Yango is the man, go check this place out, you won't regret it!

When I originally asked for the Double Cheeseburger the store owner (Not sure if this is Yango himself) warned my that the double is a full pound of burger meat, and suggested the Cheeseburger instead. Getting this with the combo got me a drink and some amazing french fries that had a sort of crunchy bread like quality, Yum! My partner got the chicken gyro combo meal (drink and fries included) that comes with pita, lettuce, onions, and sliced chicken meat from the traditional Shawarma style rotisserie skewer. Very tasty! Wrigley paraphernalia, and other Chicago items litter the walls of Yango's. Couple notes of caution: The current owner or Yango as it seems is a traditional old time restaurant dealer. He doesn't mind being brash at times, and speaks very fast and loud. I get that he means well, and is a very sincere, compassionate man. Just smile, and ask for what you want, and things will go well. Realize he's been doing this for a long time. Credit card transactions under $10.00 get a $0.75 surcharge, so bring cash or a good appetite. For two people our total meal cost was $14.75.

Had the two chesseburgers w/ fry special. Burgers were all bun, fries were underdone and soggy. Flub a dub chub's just up broadway is much better.

I used to live right around the corner from this place and I tried it one day after a full on drink fest after St. Patty's day, circa 2001. YUCK! It was probably the worst hamburger and fries that I have ever had in my life. I can still taste the terrible and indescribable oil they used to make it in to this day. How can you mess up a burger and fries? Ask Yango's!! The only reason it's still around is due to the location, otherwise, the food is god awful. Too bad, because it could be a huge hamburger joint if they renovated the space and updated the food preparation.

a little greasy spoon run by a greek couple. they are so awesome and friendly--yango himself is a little intense though--but nice. The burgers are yummy, and you can't beat the $5 special.

A couple years back I worked at the Borders (boo, hiss, dark evil empire) on the corner of Clark and Diversey. While I hated my job with a burning rage, I adored approaching the entrance because across the street was Yango's. The smells pumping out of that place were greasy and magical. When I went in with a coworker I was disappointed. Yango is a mean loud old man that barks at you, and its hard to tell what he's saying from his accent. He scared us so we just froze and ordered a grilled cheese and chicken sandwich. The food is not up to par with my other favorite greasy joints, which was sad. With a name like Yango's... I should've been in love.

I lived by this place for 4 years, and only went in there less than 10 times. Half of the times I went in there I was drunk, and you really have to, considering the amount of grease in the food. Unless you're on some race to get to a heart attack. The few times I went in there not to fix a hangover, I regretted ordering the food shortly after paying for it, while it was still being cooked. But again, if you're looking for fast, cheap, greasy, and made with love (the guys working there are something else), then this is the place to go. But make sure you're not wearing something you cherish, as it will smell like grease even if you're only there to order, pick up, and leave.

This is a great greasy burger/gyro place. The burgers are decent, just what you'd expect at a greasy spoon type place. Fries are fairly good. I usually go in for the gyros, which are HUGE, and very tasty. Trust me, you'll have trouble finishing one in one sitting. Or you should, anyway. Also very friendly service, I love the old guy that works there. He'll always recognize and greet you, shoot the breeze about whatever's going on in the city or the world of sports or other random stuff. Everyone else is pretty friendly as well. Oh and the shakes here are really good also (although I usually end up down the street at Cold Stone if I'm really jonsing for one..)

Went one night with a friend who lived in the area. It's your typical chicago burger joint. My friend's gyro looked like a greasy orgasm! Yum! My burger was alright, though I have had a better burger at burger king (ouch). For a $7 meal, I guess it was ok. I thought Yango seemed like a nice old pal, even asked me and my friend if we wanted more fries. I second on liking the stack of newspapers (Suntimes).

  • Larry B.

This place was sooo not cheap. I guess when I read people's reviews on here I was expecting fast-food prices for a decent burger - I guess that's only at Duffy's on slider nights ha ha. Anyways, $9.81 got me a bacon cheeseburger (my favorite - I know a good one when I see one), fries, a drink, and the $.75 credit card fee. WTF? A $.75 credit card fee on orders less than $10? That's how old school this place is! The atmosphere was nice - being able to pick a newspaper to read with my meal was cool.. The food was good. The burger is huge, the toppings are fresh, and the bacon was crisp. The fries were from a frozen bag of fries you could buy at your local freezer, but the burger makes up for it. Honestly, I would give Yango more stars except the average star rating for this joint is already too high in my opinion. It is not an exceptional place to me, it's average. Does being a block away make a place exceptional? Not hardly. I will go back, but I'm sure there's a better burger joint out there somewhere...

This place nice for the price. The two cheesburger and fries special is the way to go. $5, flat, for two pretty good burgers and fries is a good deal in my book. So, that covers the Burgers. As far as And Stuff, I would try the gyros. It is actually the only other thing I've tried and it they have been pretty good. If you are in the area and looking to go easy on the wallet and get your fill, then Yango's is a safe bet.

For the price, this place is great. It's not fancy, but it doesn't claim to be. We have only had the gyros, and they are pretty good. I think the owner works in there about every day and there is something to be said about him chatting you up as you wait for your meal. Plenty of easy seating and plenty of food that won't break your wallet.

Just got back from spending a week in Greece. We searched high and low and had every Chicken Gyro we could find in the motherland of Gyros, both in Athens and Mykonos. While we finally found one in Mykonos that came close to Yango's, we can safely conclude that not only does Yango make the best Gyro in Chicago, but among the best in the world as well. Go Yango! I hope you stay open another 100 years.

Two cheeseburgers and fries for $3.65?!? Yes, it's for real. And we're not talking cheap, McDonald's quality burgers, this is the real deal! They cook everything to order and have a great menu, full of good food (perfect for hangovers, without breaking the bank). I'd recommend you steer towards a gyro or the burgers; I once had a chef salad and wasn't too impressed, plus it seemed to be way overpriced, considering how much the other stuff on the menu is. Oh, don't forget a hand blended chocolate shake!

This is BASIC hot dog/burger fare with no real distinguishing factors other than a funny name. I had the burger special and some friends had various other items including the gyro. My burger was not bad but it was not good either, that was the sentiment for everyone for their meals. The fries are pretty generic and undistinguished. The atmosphere and decor keeps up the generic theme throughout the place, at least the location is not bad.

i absolutely heart yango. he calls me sweetie (as i'm sure he does with everyone) and makes me smile. i love how he repeats my orders at volume 1 million to his wife 3 feet away, squishing everythingiorderedintooneword. i used hit yango's up at least twice a week because the food is damn cheap and damn good. and it was damn close to my apartment (89 paces). the entire menu is damn good. damn damn DAMN! someone please give my yango a GInormous hug for me. i'm back in town over the holidays and this will definitely be a pit stop.

Yango's is the place to go when I'm craving greasy meaty food - such as their gyro's which is chockful of meat and stuff - just like Audra said below - 2 cheeseburgers and fries for $3.65 - one of the best deals there with meaty burgers so you definately feel like you're getting more than what you paid for.

  • Shannon D.

Yango's is my favorite spot for quick, cheap and most importantly - YUMMY eats. The burgers are cooked to order and not at all greasy, and the fries are better than any chain's. The staff is friendly, the menu is pretty good, and the 2 cheeseburger and fries for $3.65 deal is a staple of my weekend diet.

  • Eric D.

This is a decent place if you want a greasy burger and fries. The Yango special is 2 burgers and fries for about $5 with tax. If i'm down in the area and hungry that's a hard deal to pass up. If only I could understand what Yango is saying when he's shouting back to the cooks.

My husband has Yango's gyros at least twice a week and his cheeseburgers are yummy and basic (no hoity-toity gourmet junk here).

Try two cheeseburgers and a mountain of fries for $4. This is fast food made fresh to order. Fresh food tastes a lot better than stuff sittling all day. The place kind of look empty, but their food tastes a lot better than some of those busy Diversey/ Clark/ Broadway establishments. I'm not a big fan of "mystery meat", so I don't recommend the chicken gyro with the shaved meat off a stick. But I definitely recommend $4 burger deal.

Cheap. You pay for what you get.

I'm afraid I can't quite concur with the generally glowing reviews here. The two cheeseburger $4 deal is a really good deal, but neither the burgers nor the fries are anything special. I also had an Italian beef here once and it was really subpar for our great beef town. You can get tastier fast food fare at many other similar places in the city. There is something to be said for the friendliness of the place, though. I feel like Yango is a genuine neighborhood character. Not the best of its type, but if you're in the area, this will do fine.

Yummm! I save the 5 star reviews for gourmet-ish places, but for a grease-pit joint, this place is awesome. Their burgers are juicy and made to order, everything is fresh, and the fries (my favorite part!) are better then McDonald's, which says a lot. In terms of healthy content, I bet this place is still better than any mass burger chain, the ingredients have not been re-processed 5 times over. I think this place has been here forever, and it's sad that most joints like these in the city have been replaced by trendy sushi and the like spots. Healthier, maybe, but still sad.

  • Sydney K.

I agree with the other reviewers about the great cheeseburger and fries deal for $3.65. The burgers are juicy and made to order, and the fries are crispy greasy goodness. The shakes are also great. It's an ideal way to get a cheap meal for two.
