Bad Hookah bar. Hookah is too expensive and low quality. . They never clean the hookah they use the same old water from other smokers. You can see it especially from rhe duck tape they put on each hookah. Service is the worst. They never come to you and ask for anything only that if you want your check.. you have to go up front to ask for anything you need and they still add the 20% tip to the bill. The only reason I give 2 stars is because the owner is a cool guy..

Came here last night for the first time in a long time. No bad past experiences, just hadn't been here for quite some time. It may not be the most upscale hookah bar but their hookah itself is good. It's clean, smooth and doesn't burn. It hits really well and really strong for a while, without having to re-charcoal. I consider myself a hookah veteran. I've been smoking hookah for a while so I know what's good and what isn't and this place is good. Lot of regulars there which makes for repeat business. Place was crowded but not packed. Will definitely return sooner than last time.

Great hookah just wish it was cleaner especially the bathroom. No effort in the design or look but hookah is always good.

I would say the hookah is good but the atmosphere is really sketchy especially at night there is a weird diverse crowd. I wouldn't come back.

Hookah is great which gives it the two stars available. But atmosphere is very strange and dingy. Worst is when I was given a cold shoulder for not tipping. Since they seldom check how you're doing and all they do is make hookah I wasn't aware that gratuity was necessary.

When it comes to hookah, this is the place you go to. The place is cool and chill. The decoration isn't that amazing but the hookah and service is really damn cool. The flavor they have are really good. I got blueberry and grape and it's soooo nice.

My boyfriend and I were browsing Yelp looking for a hookah lounge to visit and we were both in awe to see this place receive such great reviews. It looks like an over-crowded cafeteria full of underaged girls looking for attention and a crap load of gangster wanna-be Middle-eastern dudes straight out of high school. Besides the lack of ambiance and the not-so-pleasing crowd the tobacco was TERRIBLE. It had no real flavor and started to burn almost immediately. I would never go to this place again and recommend that nobody else does either.

Sooo my bf is in love with this place because according to him they have veeerrrry good hookah... Me being not a big hookah lover I see the place for all the other things that it...doesnt provide me. It is cleaner than it used to be, but it would for sure use more clean-ups. Their bathrooms are no longer as awful as they used to be, but not amazing. The cards that they give you to play with are diiiirty and leave your hands black, I kid you not. Yes thank you for providing complementary cards to use while there, but investing 50 cents, even a dollar for a new deck once a month isnt going to break the bank. One thing that I really like, their smoothies are made in the house and are veeerryy good. Have one for sure!

I don't understand the mandatory 15% gratuity- can somebody explain? How am I supposed to pay this gratuity when the place is Self-Service? ie after they bring your hookah and drinks, DON'T expect anyone to ask if ya need something. In conclusion, this place is greatly overrated, and highly priced. Surprisingly, they seem to be good at math, as they automatically round up numbers- my after tax, after gratuity bill of 39.5 suddenly became 40.00 WOW!! I need that extra 50 cents for parking :( LOL I would not come back again. The second star is for the friendliness of the staff, and the quality of hookah.

If I could give this place no stars I would. My first and last experience here. I stupidly ruined my FIRST hookah bar experience on this place. The only positive thing I can honestly say about this place is their mixed drinks are lovely. I understand this place caters to a much older crowd, preferably 40s and up and Persian. Persian music, Persian television channel all day everyday from what I gather. The interior is rather dingy, the lighting is very different for a hookah bar so girls if you're on a date and you think you look like crap don't come here. The chairs are rickety, and my hookah experience overall was highly upsetting. I was given a crappy hookah contraption that kept breaking apart, and the hose didn't even feel clean. An avid smoker knows if a hose is clean or not. I understand they had never seen me before and I may look like I know nothing about tattoos or hookah, but seriously don't judge a book by its cover. I live right down the street and due to this crappy experience, Carthage and NP see me at least 3-4 times a week and receive generous tips !

My man Nedaal hooks up the hookah very well, try the watermelon mint! The wait staff is very friendly and always willing to help. Great place to hang out and watch the games with friends or just relax.

So far 2 times I've been there and I liked the hookah, the place really needs to be renewed because it it not so great inside. The waitress was kind of slow but she had so many tables so she could do what she could.

This is an updated review. Before 2010, I enjoyed my time spent there with friends smoking hookah, catching up, and relaxing. Most hookah bars are usually fairly similar. What sets them apart is the: 1) Atmosphere 2) People/service 3) Quality of hookah 1) The atmosphere used to be nice. But they changed the color of their walls to a puke green color. It really looks ugly...just as the name implies. 2) Their service was ATROCIOUS. One of our servers forced us to chug our water bottles we had brought it. Our other options were to throw them away or give them to her to confiscate. Mind you, the bottles were only filled with water. Our bill was outrageous, and the service was terrible. Whats worse than bad service and being forced to pay tip? Ridiculous. 3) Their hookah was decent, however it will get you buzzed so fast you wont really be able to smoke it for more than 10 minutes total. I highly advise anyone thinking of going here to avoid it at all costs.

Awesome place to smoke and hang out. Nuff said... I like this place. whether it be a Monday or a Thursday any time is a good time for a smoke pipe, tea, and a shake made on the side. Highly recommended place to hang out regardless if you're having a rough day or not, or just taking your woman out on a date. This place has an excellent atmosphere. First, the lay out. The furniture and design of the place is smart. The wall lamps are equipped with hookah lights embedded on top of the heads of the hookah portraying much like the real thing. The furniture is more for casual or classical lay out. You have the classical couches where you can sit back and watch the foot ball or basketball game or my personal favorite the patio like furniture with wide space for the legs to relax and unwind. The area is very clean where there are no sights of dirty places at all. The place is really kept clean. The center has a beautiful fountain which is hard to take eyes off. Service is pretty nice. They're very upfront and friendly. They know when to serve you as soon as possible and they make sure you try something you like. The atmosphere of the work place is rather pleasant and smooth unlike most places workers get yelled at. Instead, these people get treated like a family. And then the hookah glass... Single heads are 10$ and fusion costs 15$ as well. You may think that these prices differ because of flavor combo. Not entirely... Fusion flavor has twice the punch of the flavor and the twice of mellowness it provides. Remember! Fusion is very strong and you can get very light headed. Other than that, prices are reasonable and perfect to share among friends. Refills are free and so is the stack of coals given to smoke. Drinks are nefty here. Coffee, arabi coffee, shakes, smoothies, and other soft drinks are offered. The arabi coffee, smoothies, and shakes are what caught my attention of greatness.

the name says it all. This place sucks out loud! Worst staff ever. I felt like the staff was watching me the whole time as if we were doing something bad. I was extremely uncomfortable and the prices are ridiculous.

By far the worse hookah bar I have visited. I was handed a broken hookah, and the drinks definitely none too delicious. Broken hookah. Poorly made hookah(flavor wise) and disgusting drinks rickety broken chairs. There's only so much you can expect from a hookah lounge. The hookah, the shisha itself, the atmosphere and cleanliness of the place, the drinks and or food if offered. This place has managed to fail in all categories.

  • Mo B.

The menu said hookah was $15 and tea was 6. I ended up paying 28 before tax! She also charged my friend $4 for a can of coke. I am Arab; the hookah was bad and the place was too smokey.

  • Gabe S.

The place was really ugly as the name. No effort to give it a decent decor. It looked like they had some old couches at home that they we're going to throw away, but just decided to put them in there instead and if they used recycled all the chairs from a previous restaurant or something. Also the coffee that I had, was really poorly done had way too much cream and way too like coffee. Not to mention the environment was a bunch of loud middle eastern men throwing small fireworks and cursing at each other!!! Like seriously?.Although the place had a variety of flavors, I will definitely not go back a second time, it just did not cut it for me.

Been Going to Ugly Hookah Cafe with my husband Devin and our best friend Tom for as long as I could remember. I love going in there to smoke me some great hookah. Plus it helps when you know the hookah master himself lol. But besides that ugly hookah has a great selection when it come to hookah . I usually go for the mix fruit or whatever new experiment they have and it never is disappointing. The only thing that we find bad about the place is after they hookah is brought no one really comes back to see if you need anything like more coals for you hookah or even something else to drink. And then when your ready to pay they put an extra money on the bill for the waitress when honestly the last time we were there our friend the hookah master showed up and asked us if we needed anything. not the waitress and when they put her tip on the bill they took it off. Because we are not going to tip someone who never helped us to begin with. other then that problem it's a great place to chill with friends and relax.

I recently went ot Ugly Hookah and its not like how it use to be. The flavors go bad after just 3 passes and the service has down graded. Im very disappointed. I no longer recommend this location to any of my friends.

Ugly Hookah is just that plain UGLY, Why Sugar Coat it. It is ugly smelly and old. Not really what I am looking for on a Friday ,Sat or Sunday night. I dont know why my friends brag about it, its basically Oscar the Grouch- looking ugly, dirty and ancient. The backyard sofas probably have mold and are so old your ass could probabbly sink right thru them. And if u have been in there recently you will know that they no longer offer food. But u are more than welcome to stop by 7 eleven and bring your sesame seeds and chips.Regardless, I still dont like this palce or understand what the fuss is about, yes its open late and yes it has wi-fi,but the hookah isnt even decent; and it should its HOOKAH Lounge.

One of my best hookah experiences yet. They opened September of this year. I'd started going beginning of December and been stopping in since, many times. Hookah, sheesha (spelling unsure), is great. Always a great treat, never harsh or inconsistent yet. I was thoroughly surprised that the hummus and Baba ghanouj are very tasty and satisfying. Next time will have to have hummos w/meat. 25 Hookah flavors. Almost any combination you can think of, they say.., they can accommodate. I like that waitstaff are always around and present. Also that different people have different duties. Its not all piled on the server, there is another person that maintains the hookah and makes sure that everything is working fine. The room can suit maybe 100 or less comfortably. Single wicker cushioned chairs and love seats. A flat screen on opposite walls pumping out popular middle eastern pop music videos. They are open till 4am! Take reservations online at myspace, their email addy and by phone. I remember another patron telling me that on weekends they may host belly dancers or a Dj in the future.

If you're into a less traditional more urban hookah joint, this is doable. If you don't care so much about the ambience and just want a good hookah you should check out this no-frills cafe.

this is the first and so far the only hookah cafe i've been to. it may be the only one i've gone to because i don't really want to go to any other place. this place has free wi-fi!!! the service is a bit slow at times but there really is no rush when you're lounging around on what looks like your grandmother's wicker chair smoking out of the hookah. the menu doesn't have the many different tobacco flavors but you name it, they probably have it. you can even combine flavors for a yummy tobacco cocktail. i do not smoke cigarettes but i make an exception for cigars and hookahs. i think it's because i don't inhale. haha. i just taste the smoke. the food is alright for late night munching. i get the kabob sandwich (the meat is really tender). they're opened until 3 or 4 in the morning so it's a nice place to just hang out with friends.

Only been here once, but definitely DO want to go back! Even though the service was super slow (but friendly) and they slipped a couple things on the bill we didn't order. That tells you how GREAT the food was! Seriously loved it. I didn't get a hookah, but they're $20, so, next time.....

Been there only once so far. The shisha (hooka) was good but the food was not good at all. The service was ok. The atmosphere was fun. They had some good music on.

Ugly hookah lives up to its name. Outside looks nice and hip, while inside looks like a bomb cleared up the place. The service was ok, not the greatest. When we moved to a better table, we were told that we had to move from that table if she received a bigger crowd and mind you, we changed places from a 4 seat table to a 4 seat couch. Very unreasonable if you asked me.

This is by far the best hookah bar in Chicago. The customer service is incredible. MJ makes the hookah smoke great from start to end. The girls serving there are very quick and extremely friendly. The place is lit up and not dark like most others. There is no loud music. They play most the games on huge tv's. Best place to smoke hookah at.

  • Alejandro V.

They have nice hookah's. The one we got smoked good at first, but then began to burn my throat and also my the girl I was with. No one ever came to check on us. They'll charge you $2 for each water bottle you brining in. Totally unacceptable. Alcohol would be fine I guess, but other location have no such charge. The atmosphere is a bit strange. You'll see gangsters and commercial people. It's very bright in there and open. The seats are not too comfortable. We were there for about 40min and left. I will never go back.

This place is great if your looking for a quality hookah . Due to Chicago laws they cannot serve food anymore but they let you order Pizza and other delivery out as well as BYOB . They have a very mixed crowd which I like and a huge variety of Juices, sodas and drinks. Free Wi-Fi is also included. The guy who prepares the Hookahs has been there a while and really knows how to make them right. Be sure to ask his recommendations he's like a wine specialist accept for Hookas. LOL The waitress service is so so. Depends the girl. You wont find any better Hookah in the area unless you have someone from the mid east sending you a private stash of (tumbac) AKA flavored tobacco

Walked by it all the time going to class...finally went in when friend's didnt want to hit Carthage (the usual spot). It is Ugly and a bit cramped in there but the safe is awesome and the flavors are yummy!

Err where to start.. It's close to my house, i like trying out different hookah bars, so i come here once every two weeks. I don't really like the decor. The hookah is the best thing here! Usually I frequent "Alibaba" on Lawrence and Pulaski. Alibaba's hookah is not as good as it used to be to Ugly Hookah is better in that category.. This place is Mehh I guess.. =D

Ive been here a few times with a previous boyfriend and some friends. It is a nice hookah bar despite the name. they have comfortable chairs and card games as well as Arabic music playing. The ambiance is intimate, relaxing and casual. top it off with some Arabic tea and you've got yourself a night!

I'm a loyal Ugly Hookah goer. The previous place I went to closed MUCH earlier and after finding out the place closes at 4 in the morning or so. My friends and I have been coming here regularly for the past few months. The tobacco is good-like everyone else says there's a large selection of flavors that you can mix and match, the food is good and the kitchen stays open late. The service is slow at times a lot of times it depends on the waitress but it's a small price to pay.

  • Lenna O.

Only been there once but i loved it. The hookahs are not expensive and the food was amazing. You must try to kefta plate (sp on that!) I went with a few friends and we had a nice chill time. The server we had, Renata, was really sweet. My friends and i loved her! I'd definitely like to go back to this place again.

I was excited when this place opened but I regret to inform the Yelp crowd that the best thing about Ugly Hookah Cafe is it's name. The food is very mediocre, on a good day, and their prices are nothing to rave about. Having been to a bunch of different hookah bars I can say with certainty that the shisha selection here was lacking, as well as lacking in flavor. The servers were very nice, but very slow, and the place had kind of a dead atmosphere. For being so close to Northeastern U they had very few young people in the crowd. This might be explained by the abundance of hookah cafes in the North Park neighborhood and the unspectacular nature of Ugly Hookah Cafe.
