I saw this place by my girlfriends house, but they were closed (closed on sundays it seems). I came back later in the week and tried it out. The service was good, fast and friendly and the place was actually nicely laid out. I had the beef with hot peppers and it was pretty good. Some friends have been there and said the Curly Fries were good as well. When I go back I'll definitely have to try them.

Nice guys, clean joint, food is better than average diner variety. PLUS - they cut their own fries fresh every day, make their own from-scratch chicken soup. Prices are in line. And let's not forget about the big TVs so you can keep up with sporting events. Nice addition to the neighborhood.

Both times I've been in, the food was good, my order arrived quickly, and service was friendly.

If you are looking for good, solid Chicago Street Food, this is the place to go. Normally I never eat 'fast foods' but with an empty refrigerator and a need for a quick bite to eat, we ended up ordering from Slim's with Grub Hub. I didn't want fancy schmancy and we also needed a few standard items like a hot dog, chicken sandwiches, etc. Our food was really good - the hamburger was perfect in flavor and insides, and the Chicago style hot dog was perfectly done. Normally I'm not a fast food type of person, but the quality and freshness was so good that I will be a repeat customer. The salad looked great, the lettuce was fresh and well packed. For a delivery, we also appreciated that the sauces were all on the side rather than creating a soppy mess. The fries were excellent - crispy but not hard, and not greasy. The beef in the hamburger tasted like beef, not mystery meat. The Chicago hot dog reminded me of the way my Mom used to make them, so "home made quality" and on nice, steamed buns. Slim's is a nice little find, and they have a varied enough menu for almost any need for a quick food fix, including soups.

I dig a neighborhood hot dog joint where "with fries" is not merely a perfunctory syntactical obligation. At Slim's, those ubiquitous sides are the hand-cut variety, prepared expertly and portioned generously (too generously, actually). In short, they are as much a reason to visit as the sandwiches which are these joints' ostensible raisons d'etre. The rest of the fare is pretty solid too, though. Hot dogs, polish, and the like are all decent. I actually love their chicken club best of all, and their italian beef is among the few best that I have ever had in our great city. Coke Zero in the fountain and Heinz ketchup on the tables--and a Miss Pac-Man machine! These guys are obviously trying harder than the vast majority of their competition. They are now my top spot for this kind of fare.

Good fries and sticks but the burger leaves a lot more to be desired. It was too thick for a single patty and tasted like a Sysco frozen burger. It just didn't do it for me. Friendly, quick service.

The food is fantastic. The service is great and the place is clean. Where else can you find a place that delivers food like this. These guys do things right

Love this place. I've eaten there and have had it delivered and the food is always consistent and sooo good. Their chicken noodle soup is homemade and fresh, milkshakes are amazing, fries, beef sandwiches and hot dogs oh my! The service is excellent and they always deliver in half the time that's estimated.

have not eaten here not planning on it now. myself and my roommate both had problems with the delivery drivers. we live just down the alley from here and almost been ran over & ran down by them. he tried to talk to the manager but got blown off. staying away ...many say how fast their delivery is but not safe driving. have called the restaurant to complain on this driver and she said this is not new and knows about the problem

I could not be more happy with this place. My boyfriend and I have only ordered from here twice and have each ordered different items both times. Not a single complaint about the food. I made sure to do a little homework before the first time we ordered and took the advice of others to order the Skim Burger. Not exaggerating when I say this burger is pure brilliance! And the fries were perfect, even after sitting for a bit, naturally for being a delivery. The second go around, I got the Black Bean Burger, which was very flavorful! Just the right amount of spice/seasoning, but the Onion Rings stole the show! They bite right through so you don't have excess onion dangling on your face and deep fried dough sitting on your plate. The thing I have actually come to love best though, has nothing to do with food. From being an avid Seamless & GrubHub user, I have learned not to expect my food sooner than the latest estimated delivery time. At Slim's, half hour or less after order has been submitted!!! I don't care who you are, that's amazing!

Slim's: ain't nothing wrong with it. I've called ahead for food almost a dozen times and it's always ready when they told me it would be over the phone, which is usually a scant five minutes, by the way. The menu is chockabock full of solid offerings, but I think the best value is Two Chicago Style Dogs with Fries (you get a BUNCH of fries!) for only $4.99. I also like the Cobb salad with the grilled chicken OR the chicken strips. Everyone is nice and helpful. If you happen to be dining in, they offer WiFi. I'm very glad I work so close to such a great hot dog spot.

I went to Slim's two days in a row for lunch. I almost never do that. Their grilled chicken is really good. What sets Slim's apart from every other hole-in-the-wall burger joint in Chicago? Three very important factors: 1) cleanliness, 2) friendly service, and 3) great food. The place is sparkling clean. It even smells clean. The employees are friendly and chatty. It's nice while you wait for your food, which is delicious. It's not heavy and greasy. Their fries are better than most places, too. I forgot the best part! They have a Ms. Pacman machine! If you live in the area, check this place out.

Great hot dogs and the fries are fresh cut and amazing. I saw the potatoes in the back room. There's all you can drink soda too. I'll go back just for the fries. I am getting hungry thinking about them now.

Had a sudden craving for a hot dog and fries. Stepped into Slims on Montrose. Expect a black and white checkered floor offset by red counters everywhere. Friendly greeting at front counter by "Slim" himself (younger guy with a soft and friendly face and serious about taking your order) I ordered Chicago Style Hot Dog w/ Fries and Drink special - a little over 4$ I asked him to not salt the fries. Hot dog came w/ mustard, tomatoe and onion. Great dog, great bun, not a grain of salt on fries just like I asked, a little chincy on the tomatoe. Friendly and casual atmosphere, very comfortable and most important GREAT DOG

My review is strictly for their Chicago style hotdog which, in my opinion, is the BEST in the city. This was my neighborhood joint until sadly I moved out of the neighborhood. Great food (amazing curly fries), great atmosphere and very economical. No muss, no fuss.

I'm a fan. I started going to Slim's last year because I was craving - a severe craving - an almost unnatural craving, a milkshake and discovered getting a milkshake isn't as easy as it should be. I went through a few places before discovering Slim's. I order the same thing over and over, so I can't honestly speak to the full range of the menu, but let me tell you about the cheeseburger, with everything, a side a fries, and a chocolate milkshake. Its almost a perfect meal. The burgers have the great beefy taste you want and when they say everything... they don't skimp. A good cheap burger, in my opinion, should have enough tomato, onion, lettuce, and pickles to equal the rest of the burger (bun and meat). The bun needs to be - what is the word - toothsome? It should be more than air, but shouldn't be the focus. So Slim's cheeseburgers are just right! The fries... not exactly my favorite but what they lack in flavor, they make up for in quantity. That works for me. We are talking cheap eats here, not some gourmet crap that makes you weep and repent past sins. And the shake... made by hand, great chocolate flavor (ask for double chocolate for a real thrill). I love grabbing a meal at Slim's once in awhile and so will anyone craving a great diner burger, fries, and shake.

I ordered the steak sandwich combo with everything. I didn't even know what everything was, but I knew I wanted it. I walked by the cook's counter on the way to the john. And I watched and heard him pounding my meat. I was worried. That tough, eh, that you feel the need to pound it? Oh, well. The I startled the back room boy as I came through the kitchen to find the john. Back upfront, I filled up my stryo cup of Cherry Coke and waited. About 5 minutes, just like Slim said it would be. The sandwich was good, and not too tough. A lot of flavor with lettuce and onions and a sauce, and something spicy. I was happy about that. Tiny bit o' gristle but otherwise fairly tender. The fries had a nice "Florida tan" and were hand cut. Tasty fries, I have to admit. They have curly ones, too. What's there to say about a neighborhood quick sandwich joint? Standard charhouse fare. I hear the Italian Beef, the burgers, and the chicken pita are good. I would definitely come back. They need to clean the condiment containers, though. Salt shaker and catsup bottle were a little sticky and greasy. Decent neighborhood lunch spot for the North Center/Linclone Square crowd. Combos for $6-8.00. Good value.

I don't know much about Chicago hot dogs--I just moved here two months ago--but I know that the ones I got here were amazing. Also, two dogs and fries for $4.95 is equally amazing. As a previous reviewer mentioned, there was plenty of baseball talk going on. Everyone around the dining area was talking with everyone else--about baseball, current events, random events in one guy's life--and it felt comfortable and friendly. It's simple and clean, but they dressed it up a little so it looks nicer than your average hot dog joint (given what little I know about them.)

5 Star Artery Clogging Goodness! Everything in moderation, right!? Well if you order fries at Slim's, I can promise you two things: 1 - You will enjoy them tremendously 2 - You have a high percentage of not fitting into your pants the next day. As for the Italian Beef sandwich, it was excellent as well. Overflowing sliced beef, the perfect amount of hot peppers, and nice and wet (I asked for it hot and wet) Overall, the prices are right and the food is delicious. It's a greasy spoon, but a very good one at that.

With a new baby at home, we have been ordering a lot of take-out. I was sick of pizza and Chinese. I wanted something quick and easy and found Slims on Seamless. Ordered a couple cheeseburgers and fries and was pretty satisfied. Pretty decent, simple burger. Fries were good too. I was most impressed though, that after ordering, Slim's called me up. Seamless is pretty lacking compared to Grubhub, and doesn't have options for toppings/extras, etc. (Or I don't know where those options are) So they called to find out what I wanted on the burgers. A very simple, yet awesome gesture. They could have just sent over burgers with nothing on them and I wouldn't not have complained. I will be a repeat customer for that reason.

Just finish throwing out everything I ordered from Slims for my lunch. I should had known that such low prices wouldn't live up to quality food. Seems they deliver extra protein in their salads if you know what I mean. No thanks wont make the mistake of eating here again.

Stumbled over Slim's when looking for food options on GrubHub. We'd just moved into our new place and needed something tasty delivered while we unpacked. Newly arrived in Chicago, I've been obsessed with Italian Beef. Slim's not only has great beef, they also offer the 'Slims' burger...that is, they take a cheese burger and then they top it with italian beef & peppers, on top of the burger patty with cheese. It's HEAVEN. Their curly fries are great too. Last time I went I picked up a chocolate peanut butter shake too...delicious and creamy, great flavor. Mostly I order their delivery since the location only has limited street parking. However if you want to eat there, they have a few booths and a TV on the wall for watching sports.

A classic Chicago hotdog and beef joint. The staff is friendly, the place is clean and the food is served quick. Not much more you can request from this kind of place. Stop in for a couple of Chicago style dogs or a steak sandwich and you won't be disappointed. Nothing fancy, but then again why would it. A great place to stop in for a bite with the family after a game.

  • Aaron C.

Best thing about this place is the fries. They are fresh and delicious unlike the frozen ones you find at most places. If you do get a side of fries, you can share them..the bag is enormous! I am also a fan of the cheap prices. The people are great and the food is well prepared. It reminds me of a burger shop in the 50's. This is my favorite neighborhood cheap spot for a weekend lunch or dinner. I could go and get a gourmet burger at another place, but for half the time and money, you can't beat Slims.

I've ordered delivery twice using GrubHub, and I've had a great experience with Slim's. Delivery was speedy and before GrubHub's estimated arrival time. I ordered a shame-inducing, scrumptious BLT with cheese on flat bread. Prices are very reasonable, so adding additional items like avocado is totally worth it. The curly fries are perfect, and they've always been crispy and flavorful. Your mouth will thank you.

Chicago has a nack for large portions and great food. Slim's is no exception. I went here with some friends to get my Chicago fix. It is called the combo. I get it every time I come to Chicago. The combo is a sub like roll with Italian beef and a sausage in it. I ask for mine "hot and wet". No, you pervs, this is not a porno review. Hot means you want giardinara peppers on it and wet means that they dip the roll in the Italian beef juice. I got mine with some fried mushrooms. Not the best fries shrooms, I ever had, but the were still good. 2 best reasons to go to Slim's. 1) Low cost tasty Chicago food. (If you have never had a Chicago dog, this place will give you a solid one) 2) They deliver. Now that is the essence of fat and lazy. Yum!

We just moved to the area and I love Slims! Especially because they deliver me bottled cream soda and energy drinks with my meal! The Chicago Style hotdogs are delicious and I love their cheese fries. Delivery times are short too. We just had our meal delivered in 20 minutes! We will be ordering from their again.

Just order from here on GrubHub. Fast delivery, great price, fantastic food. My wife got a Chi dog and curly fries. Tons of fries and she said the dog was really good. I had the Slim's Burger (nothing slim about it... burger with italian beef, peppers (hot or sweet) and cheese on top) and regular cut fries. Terrific. The burger had good flavor and was extra juicy thanks to the beef on top. The fries were of an enormous portion, so big I couldn't finish. They were hand cut and had that perfect brown to them. Just moved to Lincoln Square and I think I found my new go to spot for burgers and fries.

I'm surprised the name of this restaurant is "Slim's". The food is so damn good, I want to see the person "Slim's" is named after. I want to bet ya he or she is FAT! I had an italian beef sandwich drenched with drippings, natural cut fries with the skins still on them, mozzarella sticks, and chicken tenders. The italian beef and mozzarella really hit the spot for me and I saved the chicken tenders and fries for dinner the next day. When I want a ton of greasy food quickly, I'm calling "Slim's".

Slim's is probably the best joint in the neighborhood. Pickup is generally ready in 5-10 minutes, even during peak times. The Slim is one of the best burgers in town. Yeah The Bad Apple & Kuma's have their thing going on and there are amazing burgers all over the place but I have seen the most satisfying looks on friends' faces when trying The Slim for the first time. Their curly fries are the best in town. The food in general, especially for the cost, is friggin awesome. Fast food with a super friendly face. Adam and Matt are awesome dudes, incredibly nice people. Family is often in the building. Love going here to dine in or take home. Favorite menu items: Curly Fries (with or without cheese sauce) The Slim Spicy Chicken Po Boy Italian Beef Breaded Chicken Sandwich Hot Dogs Black Bean Burger Grilled Chicken Pita Did I mention the Slim and curly fries? If you are in the mood for greasy American fare, Slim's sits at the top of the list. My only wish is that they were open later into the night. Though, I doubt my physician would agree with me on that.

I have only had delivery from Slims but the food has always been outstanding. Sometimes it is hard when you get delivery for french fries to come hot and crisp but every time I have ordered there are never issues. There are very quick with their delivery and the food tastes really good. I usually order the cheeseburger but have also had the chicken sandwich. Both come with a lot of flavor and I like that you select what you want one it. I ordered through grubhub this evening and there was an issue with the order being placed as pick up instead of delivery as I selected. Slim's called and asked when I would be picking up the order. I immediately called and explained that it was supposed to be delivery. The guy I spoke to explained it wasn't want that the charge did not include their delivery fee. I asked it I could just pay that in cash and if they could get it delivered. The guy said it would not be a problem and within 10 minutes my food was here and still hot. I appreciate their quick accommodation was a screw up by grubhub. And even more of a plus...the driver was very nice. I was expecting a cranky driver because of having to rush over when he was expecting the delivery. I will definitely order again.

The two hot dogs were good and so were the fries. But the chocolate mint shake! It was thick and the mint did not overpower the chocolate flavor. Very, very tasty. They put it in a good sized cup, but I could have went for more of that. All of my order was for less than ten dollars, and that was a great deal. I went in on a Saturday afternoon, which must be the regular meeting time for fantasy game nerds; the few booths were packed with guys playing Yu-Gi-Oh! with trading cards. I was lucky to squeeze in at the counter across from where the staff cooked the food. That was the only drawback I encountered. Otherwise, check this place out - it's good!

My boyfriend & I order from here almost weekly, esp. during fall & winter (before the yearly abrupt end to our Bears FB season). The usual: fried mushrooms, mozz. sticks, hotdog w/ everything, curly fries, slim burger. Amaze-balls. Seriously? How do you deliver fried mushrooms so perfect? Lived in Chicago my life- one of the best h.d. stands next to Eden's fast food. Heart.

Delighted to find this no-frills--but affordable and delicious--spot had opened right around the corner from me. Today was my first lunchtime visit. I had the grilled chicken pita (ordered on the recommendation of another Yelp review) and regular fries. The pita shell was fresh and warm; there were heaping strips of nice white-meat chicken plus lettuce, tomato, onion and cool tzatziki sauce that made for a satisfying combo--basically a slightly healthier gyro. The fries were hot and crisp; they'll remind you of the ones at that mall classic, the Great Steak & Potato Company. I'll be back to try more menu items, but in the meantime, I hope my neighbors go and support the biz. We needed something like it!

I've had more stuff from Slim's and I have to say, I am pleasantly surprised by the freshness. I've had the chicken salad a couple times and I'll keep coming back for it. But if you are in need of a good hangover cure, I recommend the Chicken Spicy Po'boy. I think they make the spicy sauce there & it's spice-a-licous --I'm coining that term.

Guy behind the counter is super nice. Slim's gives a crapload of (curly) fries for a great price. Ask for their homemade spicy mayo free of charge!

Star #1 - fresh cut fries. I say again; FRESH CUT FRIES. Star #2 - homemade Italian beef. Star #3 - homemade soup that'll make you slap someone's mother. Star #4 - fresh ground beef patties. Star #5 - reasonable price Star #6 (if it was available) - dogs the Chicago way. Lone criticism, ketchup available. Who would do this to a hot dog or *gasp* fresh cut fries? Such patrons should move back to Minnesota.

We normally don't venture into the city too often so when were looking for a quick bite to eat all we saw were either diners or bars in the area. Having our son (who hadn't napped all day)with us we just wanted to get a quick bite somewhere and that's when we spotted Slims. We went inside and it seemed like your average hot dog joint. I ordered the Italian beef my wife ordered the Chicago Style dog and we ended up getting my son the same. So here's the part where I became impressed. My son was crabby and climbing over between the booths when we saw two guys who worked there take alittle mini basketball out and start shooting it at a little hoop hung on the door. My son started watching them and after alittle coaxing I told him to go over and watch them. One of the guys actually asked my son if he wanted to shoot the ball and proceeded to let him shoot 10-15 times until my son had enough to make him happy. Suffice to say my son was in a much better mood after that. On to the food now. The beef was very good and having had beefs at Portillio's, Jay's and countless other places I'll have to say this ranks right up there with the best. The thing that stood out was the bread wasn't your normal roll you find in every other beef spot but it had a nice crunch to it even after it was soaked from the juices. My wife found the hot dog very good and loved the fries. I ended up eating my son's hotdog and fries and found the fries (Hand cut?) to be nice and crunchy with a nice taste to them. To sum it all up we were very satisfied having spotted this place and if we were in the area again would definitely go back. Oh and the one downside was the fountain drinks didn't have CocaCola working and even though they had 20 oz bottles of it I still prefer my Coke from the fountain which somewhat disappointed me.

I saw this place on Grubhub and after reading the few reviews on here, I decided to give it a try. I called in because of the free fries w/ sandwich offer they mentioned on their yelp page. I don't think it would've been applied if I would've ordered through Grubhub. So anyway, I got the chicken pita and cheeseburger for the boy, and we got a curly fry and hand cut fry (free!). The sandwiches were both pretty darn good, and the curly fries good too, but the hand cut fries were a little too greasy for me. I liked them, but I think when fries are delivered, they turn a little soggy and greasy. So I'll give those another try if I ever stop in and eat there. Best part was the SUPER fast delivery. 15 minutes! At first I thought the girl had the wrong place and it wasn't our food yet, but she handed over the bag and that was it!

The sea salt fresh cut fries here with cheese sauce are very good. Nice large bag with ketchup and a iced tea. The owner is from the neighborhood born and raised. He's friendly young man and the fixing up of the place has made a nice spot to watch the game and have a burger and salad.

Whatever was here a year ago was greasy and run down enough that I avoided it for years, but this week my fiance wanted to go, and I'm glad we did. Slim's is new and improved! Looks like they cleaned up and polished the joint to make it more inviting, and as a result, we may have had the $5.95 cheeseburger/fries (ohhh, the fries)/20 oz drink lunch special twice this week. So... thanks, Slim's for ruining our wedding diet. Bonus: flat panel TV with ESPN is always on at the right volume for both catching the game and having a conversation with friends.

Placed order on Grubhub & 20 mins later I was holding the BEST italian beef I had ever had. It was everything a beef should be. Bread was steamy on the inside with a slight crunch on the outside, piled with beef and giardinera.... and even MORE giardinera on the side! What are you, mindreaders? I thought it couldn't get any better, but they really outdid themselves with the chocolate peanut butter shake. This unassuming neighborhood hot dog stand WILL be the death of me. Oh, and I forgot to tip on my online order and the delivery guy shrugged it off - classy! I fixed it later with Grubhub, but this only confirmed my opinion that Slim's is the new reigning champion of beefery in Ravenswood... Take note, Budacki's and Byron's.

I stopped in here for lunch today after hearing some friends talk about it. I had an Italian Beef with hot peppers and curly fries. The beef was great and the hot peppers were pretty damn hot. I've had Mr. Beef, Jay's, Roma's, Buona Beef, Novi's Beef and this place kicked their ass. Next time I am going to try their chicken pita, I heard it's pretty damn good. They have great delivery service as well... I've eaten numerous times now and they always get me my food nice and hot.

I have been in here several times and really like the place. I think the cheeseburgers are what have me coming back for more. As soon as you walk in you feel welcomed. I am generally greeted by one of the brothers that own the place. Prices are reasonable. I love the curly fries. Even better is the fact that I can watch sports on the tv while I wait for my food.

  • Shawn P.

I live across the street from this place, and it's a good thing I have enough willpower not to eat here more often because I would probably end up very large. Clearly, a place like Slim's is not the place for healthy eating, but when you do want to take a break from the rabbit food, you should definitely eat here. The food is always prepared to order, and it's always quite delicious. Admittedly, I tend to stick to a cheeseburger and fries when I go here, but I did have the grilled chicken once (very tasty) as well as the veggie burger (delicious as well). If there's one thing that could improve for me, it would be to get the French fries a little crispier (I LOVE crispy fries). Overall, this is a great place to eat: friendly staff, clean facilities, and reasonable prices.

Another great place for hot dog stand food. the curly fries were great, the burger kinda bummed me out, it's just a frozen patty and kinda taste weird. I will most likely try other things next time

Before I begin- GET THE SPICY CHICKEN PO BOY. If you don't like grilled chicken, ask them for their spices/ sauce to be used with the breaded chicken instead. SMILE AT THE VERY NICE AND PRETTY BLONDE GIRL WORKING THERE. She is really accommodating. I'm giving Slim's 5 stars because of how all around solid it is, not because the food is the best ever. The curly cheese fries are pretty good and don't taste like old oil, which is nice. The standard melted cheese is actually really good- it's a way better version of cheese-whiz, and is deliciously cheap in that awesome "wow this is bad for me, but so tasty" kind of way. I think I could drink that stuff. Gross, but true Their burgers are decent- cheap and stacked with condiments Polish sausages are okay- I like Byron's better. But again, well executed and you get what you pay for. Salads are really good! I love the Cobb, but not the dressing (why honey mustard on a Cobb salad?). Ranch is the way to go. Hotdogs are awesome. Well put together and just the way it should be for Chicago style dogs and chili cheese dogs. They offer a nice fried fish sandwich for you piscatarians, along with a black bean burger and an egg and pepper sandwich that my mom loved. Large orders done in about 15 minutes for take out, and the staff is friendly and accommodating. When I walk with my dog and order to go, they bring it out to me while I wait outside with her.

The Hot dogs and french fries were amazing! The delivery took a while but most likely because of the traffic in the area. The delivery driver was very nice and the food was hot when it arrived. I will definitely be back. Can't wait to try the Po'boy sandwich. My roommate keeps getting it and she's def a fan of it. Awesome food!

Ordered for the first time and through Yelp. They got the order perfect! The hotdogs were Vienna beef-delicious! The Italian beef was perfect! The meat was tender and thinly sliced. The spicy chicken po-boy was very spicy per my hubby but he suffered through and ate it all up! Would definitely order again!

Rosa J.'s back...back on her Chicago-dog eating spree! I'm a die-hard Chicago-dog lover. However, due to hubby's dietary restrictions and my busy schedules, I haven't walked into a hot dog joint for awhile now. I missed my chi-town doggies and determined to visit Slim's this evening after finishing running errands after work. Slim's is located two (2) blocks west from the CTA Montrose Brown Line station in the Ravenswood neighborhood. I know there's usually a huge demand for their delivery services, yet their dining room is hip and comfortable if you ever stop by instead of chilling at your couch playing video games. They have two (2) television sets booming our invincible Chicago Blackhawks and champion-wannabe Chicago Cubs. We came in around 20:30 hour, and the workers were busy prepping a ton of pick-up and delivery orders. I had one of their specials: two (2) Chicago-style dogs with fried for $4.99 (awesome...classy...cheap). Fortunately, hubby found the black bean burger on the menu, so he didn't need to befriend with the meat. The toppings on their hotdogs were very fresh. I was especially fond of the hot peppers to provide an extra "kick," but I wish there was more relish to tone down the "hot." Regardless, I was excited to have my Chicago "edible pets" back in my life! Hubby enjoyed his black bean burger, but he said it could have been made a bit "spicier." He still preferred the BBB at the Hot Diggity Dog underneath the CTA Wellington Brown/Purple Line station. Slim's menu is one of the most extensive menus I've seen. It covers just about everything Chicagoans are proud of (hotdogs, beef sandwiches, burgers, fries, soup, chili, and shakes). This place can get you addicted if you live close by! With that being said, being "slim" will soon be out of question if hotdogs and burgers are part of your daily routine.

Just got a delivery and after a mistake on my end and accidentally picking pick-up they were very kind to make the change for me. But when my food arrived the positive experience ended. Their menu listed a "monster energy drink" and I had been craving one for days so I was very excited to drink one. But they brought me some no sugar, diet version of the drink. When I called I was told "this is what they sell" and they would not be remedying the situation. Apparently I'm supposed to know that is the version I am getting. What is that about!? When I order a coke, and I supposed to know I'm getting a Diet coke!? Thanks for your help! There are enough places in Chicago that care about my order that I don't need to order from here again.

Yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm! 2 Chicago dogs, an Italian beef sandwich, and a root beer float. All delicious as heck, really great, super clean place, and fast friendly service!

I got some food delivered and I can definitely recommend their chicken po boy. The only reason I'd for them a star less is due to their delivery taking way too long . Other than that the sandwiches are stellar and so is the soup. I will definitely order again.

...did this place get a food upgrade? Pretty sure it got a food upgrade. I've been here several times since I live a block away. When I was last at Slim's I got a cheeseburger and cheese fries. It's nothing too fancy- just basic, classic food. But I remember thinking the cheese sauce was a bit too sweet and the burger was nothing to write home about. Ummm I got food there last night and it was a pretzel bun cheeseburger - I know that's new for sure - and the fries were different, like freshly cut. And most importantly, the cheese sauce was SO good. Maybe I was just way more drunk than I realized last night, but pretty sure they changed some stuff around. Either way, it was extremely good. Excited to go here again.

I live right next to this place and they get too much of my money. Really good customer service, seating, and so many great menu options. My favorites are the po boy and the grilled chicken pita.

Speed, speed, speed. Fastest delivery in Lincoln Square. If there's a mistake, they fix it or give you a credit for next time. Reasonable prices. Food's always solid (classic Chicago hot dog stand fare) and will cure what ails ya. Big fan of the curly cheese fries and the Beef and Sausage Combo. Great homemade soups.

Decent place to grab a quick bite! Fries are good & the onion rings are thick - not a big fan of the thickness but they were ok. My partner got a burger and he said it was plain but enjoyable.

If your looking for fast and good this is the place to go and the staff is super friendly get the slim burger ,you won't be sad you did and the fries are beast.

Finally. When I travel to other cities, I like to sample the indigenous junk cuisine in addition to higher-end and more exotic fare. In Chicago, of course, junk cuisine largely means deep-dish pizza, Chicago dogs, and Italian beef sandwiches. In several past visits, I've been able to appreciate the deep-dish, but have been perplexed by the mediocrity of the dogs and Italian beef at a couple of chain-ish spots where we've sampled them. Slim's, though, goes a long way toward justifying the Chicago-dog and Italian-beef hype. For the first time in my experience, the Chicago dog toppings seemed to meld harmoniously. The dog itself tasted high-quality. The Italian beef and its juices had more depth of flavor than you'd expect in a five-buck sandwich. Curly fries were tasty, too. Slim's has a bare-bones, almost snack-bar kind of feel. Which is just fine for this kind of fare. Plus the place looked clean and sharp, and the service was snappy.

I ordered a double cheeseburger with fries. The burger was huge and the fries were just right! It took a hour and some for delivery but it was definitely worth the wait, plus I had a $2 off coupon which made the meal a little under $12 perfect! When I went to grab my food from the delivery guy he was dressed in a nice suit, I felt like I ordered from a 5 star restaurant lol. I would recommend this spot to anyone craving for some REAL Chicago style food and I will be ordering again soon!

Slim's is great for a quick meal. They have fast, friendly delivery also. I recommend the BLT, they make it on pita bread and it's really delicious. Also, their curly fries are really good. I've never been to the actual location, so I've only done delivery and every experience has been very good.

I have been the slims number times previous visits I've always gotten their two dog- french fry special"for $4.99 They dress the hot dogs like a typical Chicago hot dog but I prefer my hot dogs with a natural casing Slims uses a skinless dog. The French fries our top notch fried to a golden perfection. Yesterday I thought I'd step out of my box and I tried an Italian beef and was very disappointed. The beef really had no flavor other than salty ask for hot giardinera I'm the sandwich which I had trouble finding. I had to ask for an additional small container to add to the few specks they threw on the beef. They used a soft spongy roll that didn't add anything as well to a lackluster Italian beef next time I'll stick to the hot dogs.

Those of you who follow me know that I am at Old Town School more than once a week and am always looking for Lincoln Square eats. A fellow OTS member walked in the other day with food from Slims. She encouraged me to check it out... Excellent food at less than half the price of the typical Lincoln Ave spots. Highly recommended when in the area! --On the surface, the place looks very clean

Great food!! I love the steak sandwich and grilled chicken club with spicy mayo. Also great staff and always fresh food!! If you live in the area, make sure you try it. One last note, I love the fried mushrooms!!!

  • Shaina K.

Slims is pretty solid. It's a nice place to pick up a quick bite to eat for a very reasonable price. I really liked their hot dog combo, and their burgers were decent. Their soups also look good.

If you are around and want something quick, definitely stop by here. I wasn't expecting much from an order of 2 Hot Dogs and fries at $4.99, but these hot dogs were awesome! Get them with everything. The fries were great too. I wish I had a hot dog joint as good as Slim's close to my apartment.

Order delivery from here pretty frequently when I am babysitting and it never disappoints! I have had the steak sandwich, which is delicious. And the chicken po boy and I love the cheese fries. Food always arrives faster than expected and always hot. I am sometimes picky and ask for things on the side or without and my order always comes correct!

  • Kaitlin R.

I ordered here several times. The fries and mushrooms are always good. I order steak sandwich-it was ok. I thought i would try chicken strips were inedible. They were so tough I couldn't even bite into it, not to mention it was sooo greasy. I will not be ordering from here again

Solid Chicago style fast food. Great service and atmosphere. The food is cooked to order. Fresh cut fries. Everyone loves fresh cut fries. I usually go for their Chicken flatbread which comes with a spicy dipping sauce. I have never been disappointed. Popular neighborhood place for a few bucks less than Giordano's, Lou Malnati's and Chicago Pizza.

Very happy I found this place!! The Italian beef was so good! The service was so fast and the staff was very inviting and friendly. Will most definitely be returning

Pretty straight forward lunch spot. Inside it's standard "Hot Dog Joint" setup with like 8 booths and a grill/kitchen area. The food is done right! Great Chicago Dogs and perfectly cooked fresh cut fries are the draw here. Hot Dog Special: 2 Chi Dogs & Large FF is only $5! Haven't tried anything else but I'll definitely be back.. get dat did

Great burger for a 'fast food' style burger. I haven't dove into the chicken po boi fully yet but first bit wasn't bad. Next time I'll try their fries. I think the bacon could have been crispier so next time I'll order that extra crispy but otherwise good. Patty's seem fresh and not the cheap frozen kind. Update: I've since ordered other things on the menu: The Slims burger - Italian beef and burger...amazing Fish Sandwich - also amazing Spicy chicken club - good but not my favorite Fries and mozz sticks are great too.

  • Stephanie A.

I had the weirdest craving for mozzarella sticks and a shake so I went on GrubHub and I found this place. Let me tell you, best mozzarella sticks and shakes! I ordered a Nutella shake, mozzarella sticks and the curly fries and it made me wanting more. I loved everything I ordered and can't wait to go back to try their burger.

  • Kohl F.

This place has got fantastic selection of hot dogs and sandwiches. easy ordering online and special orders are not taken lightly. I ordered 3 different types of Chicago dogs (1 w/o pickles or relish, 2 without relish and 1 w/everything) and they executed the order to perfection. They also made my pickup order right when I arrived in little under 5 mins, which I prefer because I like mine HOT and ready when I get there.

  • Dayna S.

Slim's is our go-to spot for quick, cheap, yummy burgers! It's a couple blocks away so its super convenient and since its close to the Brown line I just have the boyfriend grab some on his way home from work. The fries are great too!

  • Eric G.

I just ordered 2 steak sandwiches and the delivery was super fast. For the steak on the steak sandwiches Slim's went with skirt steak. I really enjoy a well cooked skirt steak. Slims skirt steak was uncut, unseasoned, and untrimmed. As a result Slim's steak sandwich is best described as shoe leather mashed between 2 chewy pieces of bread. Gnawing bites are interrupted by gristle and fat. The whole thing fell apart within moments much like my appetite. Over all, I am disappointed and I'm ordering from somewhere else next time.

  • David W.

This might be a 4.5 star, but I will bump it up for 5 stars. I am rating it 5 stars based on a food/value level. It's not a destination restaurant, but if you are in Ravenswood/Lincoln Sq/North Lakeview, you really should go. 2 hot dogs + fries for $5! Wide variety of burgers, chicken, pita sandwiches, shakes, etc. It's an enjoyable, reliable lunch/dinner meal. I've never had a bad hot dog here and the fries are addictive. Service is top notch. The owners are always there and friendly. Your food is quick and presented very well... they also deliver! Atmosphere is good, they'll typically have sports playing on 2 tv's and/or playing music.

  • Glenn K.

My roommate and I got Slim's delivered. first off, the shakes are pretty good. I had the nutella and my roommate had chocolate. Had we not ordered the "bakery fresh brownie" I would give Slim's 4 stars. Unfortunately we did order the "bakery fresh brownie". Why is "bakery fresh brownie" in quotation marks you may ask? Well the answer is simple, their brownie is nothing more than a processed brownie from a factory in New Jersey made by Daisy's. Maybe it was fresh at one time but that was long before Slim's got a hold of it. Anyway, if you go to Slim's, avoid the brownies but if you have a craving order a shake.

I had to move two houses into one. Talked to Paul and set it up to move the first house. The move went very well, the six guys were very professional and did a great job. The second move about 5 weeks later I told Paul to give me a bigger truck because I had more stuff than the first move. We got a semi. The guys filled it to the brim. These guys work there tails off for 12 hours with loading and unloading. And did a great job. I'd recommend Midwest to anyone

He Italian beef and fries were great but the steak sandwich was really bad. It was hard and tuff like beef jerky I could barely chew it. I was really disappointed.

Slim's knows how to do the Chicago thing; Great dogs, tasty burgers, hand cut fries, and juicy Italian beef's. They also make a mean chicken po'boy sandwich, homemade soups and some delicious milkshakes. Good delivery as well, always arrives fast and hot. Price-wise you can't do much better in the city. Very friendly people too! Worth a checking out if you are in the area.

I ordered the Slim Burger about a month ago while I was babysitting nearby. I have now moved to the neighborhood and cannot stop thinking about that burger. Do yourself a favor and just order it. Great for those times you can't decide which variety of fatty deliciousness to kill your diet with.

I love this place! I could eat their Grilled Chicken Pita with the tzatiki sauce on a far too often basis. The fries are salted perfectly. The burgers are big. The service is great. The prices are right. I'm so happy to have found this gem and even happier that it's in my neighborhood.

I don't eat unhealthy very often, but when I do I want it to be good. This place is a step above most for the following reasons: delivery, hot dogs that aren't so massive and buried in 3 inches of toppings you feel like you're choking (looking at you Byron's), curly fries, and the fact that the Peppermint milkshake blew my mind (way, way better than Margie's Candies' milkshakes). Seriously, it was one of the better milkshakes I've ever had. Go. Go now.

Wow, all this time I thought Slim's was little more than a neighborhood hot dog stand. Sure, they sell hot dogs, but there's so much more. In addition to hot dogs, burgers, salads, they have an impressive array of sandwiches (pepper and egg (and not just during Lent), po' boys, fish, several chicken options, and steak), but also tacos and soups. Pretty big menu for such an unassuming spot on a nondescript block in Ravenswood. But even with such a diverse menu, I didn't deviate from getting a hot dog and fries; this being my first visit, I wanted to start with what they're known for. Two hot dogs and fries sets you back only $4.99. That's a deal any way you slice it, but when you take into account that the hot dogs are first-rate, and the fresh-cut fries--oh my god the fries--are absolutely terrific, the value rises exponentially. I also added a chocolate shake (purportedly homemade) to my order. Certainly not the healthiest dinner, but every now and then, you gotta do it. A well-rounded junk-food meal every once in a while never killed anyone. The shake too, was fantastic, and had just the right about of pronounced chocolate flavor and just the right consistency. The owner was so nice. I observed him interacting with several customers (both in person and on the phone) as well as his staff, and he seems like a genuine salt-of-the-earth kinda guy. That always makes me feel better about giving someone my business. And what may just be the pièce de résistance: an old-timey Ms. Pac Man machine. I haven't touched one of those in probably thirty years but it made me smile just to be near it. I think Slim's does what it does very well: great food at reasonable prices, served quickly. Oh, and they deliver too.

Slim's is the go-to spot for Chicago style comfort food in Ravenswood. They've got everything I look for in a local hot dog grill. (1) Properly prepared Windy City dietary staples: The hot dogs are fresh n' juicy, the cooks aren't shy with all the necessary condiments, the fries are warm from the cooker, and they've got plenty of cheesy and chili variations for zealous eaters. (2) Casual entertainment, circa 1980s-1990s: There's a vintage Pac-Man machine to pass the time while your order is prepped, and once your food arrives, you can soak up some syndicated sitcom classics on local network tv. (3) Quick food prep: The food came out fast, about the same time it took to play one round of the aforementioned Pac-Man. Hot dogs are typically an impulse buy, a meal-between-other-meals situation, and when I decide it's time for a Chicago style, I want it fast before I change my mind. (4) Cheap: $2.50 for a dog with everything. Fries for $1.80. 2 dogs for $5. Slim seems to agree with me that the cost of a hot dog, at least for now, should be inelastic and resistant to inflation. These are the reasonable prices I remember from my younger days and I can't help but use such solid values as a benchmark against other purchases (i.e. Mentally noting...$100 for dinner for 2? I could've gotten 40 hot dogs instead...enough for a whole week). (Bonus points: #5) Service: This criterion is usually absent in the Chicago hot dog stand scene. I'm used to a hefty serving of cold indifference with my hot dog orders, which I can't hold against people operating sizzling hot frying materials for long stretches of time, but the guys at Slim's were quick and welcoming with all the customers.

Slim's is my go-to for hot dogs, cheeseburgers and fries. Their fries are fresh cut and their burgers are fantastic. The mozzarella sticks are great and priced very fair. I've ordered delivery several times and each time, the order comes fast and hot. Slim's is the stuff of Chicago legend.

This place is friggin awesome!! I highly recommend their spicey chicken po boy sandwich and curly fries! The service is always super quick and friendly. They also deliver super fast in 30 mins or less. Definitely recommend this spot to peeps in the area looking for good American food. Please note the chicken po boy sandwiches are addictive and once you have one, ur gonna want another in a week

First impression, seems like a nice enough neighbourhood place for a bite to eat. Food - Hot Dog was on the menu for me. Finely steamed bun and day glow relish made this a great example of the Chicago dog. Lots of fresh cut fries are always appreciated piping hot and salted just right... yum Menu is extensive and worth another visit for sure. Atmosphere - TV in front on CNN, one in the back on ESPN both playing at low volume and a few booths and a shelf along the wall to stand and eat at there is plenty of space to find a place to eat without feeling crowded.

  • Mer P.

Are you hungover? Stop reading now and just go to slims. To be fair, I hate almost 90% of the things on this menu (and haven't tried them, because I'd hate them regardless of who made them). HOWEVER, do yourself a favor the next time you think "oh gosh I don't want to waste time at a bar getting a burger and an overpriced craft brew," go to slims and get a chicken pita and a giant bag of fries then dip all of it in their yummy tzatziki sauce. you will win. every time. I'm also scared to try their milkshakes, I've seen people's faces while drinking them and I could wind up in ice cream rehab again.

I don't eat a lot of red meat these days, but something put me in the mood for a burger. I checked on google for nearby food, and this place popped up. Best decision of the day. The Slim Burger is SO delicious -- it made me question why I stopped eating beef to begin with. The flavors & seasonings were incredible! I'll definitely be returning here for another taste soon! :)

  • Lataia G.

The food is ridiculously good but the service (if you're getting delivery) is horrible. I asked for extra lettuce and what I got was two half pieces of gross lettuce and this isn't the first time. This delivery guy didn't use my buzzer to get in but called me to tell me to come and get my food(I live in an apartment on the third floor ). When contacted about the issues, a very sassy answer was given and nothing was fixed. I have stuck with them because the food is great but service means more to me!!!!

    (1)
  • Mike M.

Definitely a great hot dog and fries. Will definitely go back for more and would like to try some of the other options.

    (4)
  • Tricia M.

Their food is cheap AND delicious. Reminds me of being a kid for some reason, like the kind of place you'd find in Canarsie. Im a sucker for their fries. Super greasy. I agree with whoever gave the advice to go when your hungover, that sounds like a wise choice.

    (4)
  • Uniform H.

A solid Chicago snack place. I would highly recommend the Chicago style hot dogs, Italian Beef sandwich, and regular fries as the best things on the menu. Burgers are okay. Shakes are a little sugary.

    (4)
  • Jim H.

Always fast delivey. Always good fast food. Always consistent. Always great customer service. Even the one time that it took them longer to deliver, they threw in a free cookie. Not that I'm a fan of the such, but the gesture is what counts. The chicken po boy with curly fries pairs great with an Old Style when you're hungover. The hot dogs are legit. The cheese sticks are legit. If you're on a "cheat day", hungover, or just love Chicago fast/street food, you've found the place. Stop reading, start ordering. You're welcome.

    (5)
  • Harold H.

Great neighborhood joint. Gets busy and seems like a popular kid hangout. No complaints with the delivery and take out options though. Lots of stuff on the menu and the staff is super fast and friendly.

  • Lisa L.

This is the kind of place that I'm happy to have in my neighborhood. I don't remember how I stumbled upon it (definitely an accident), but I thought it was odd that I'd never noticed this place given the number of times I've walked by Damen & Montrose. I'm glad I found it. Good fries, good italian beef. Laid-back environment, clean place, nice people. My food also came out quickly.

    (5)
  • Clay C.

Hands down the best hotdog in Chicago. The service was prompt, friendly, and courteous. I will definitely being going back!

    (5)
  • Matt C.

Their Chicago dog is pretty good (a bit heavy on the celery salt) but the "2 dogs with fries" for $4.95 is an awesome deal. It's especially great if you need a post-bar stop. The fries are their only pitfall. Nothing terrible, but they just don't satisfy their claim as a "fresh cut" fry. It seems like they are being cooked in either the wrong oil or at the wrong temperature (edit: I found that ordering the fries "crispy" makes them much more palatable because they lose that wet, oily texture-- I'd highly recommend it). The staff is great and very liberal with menu changes and pricing. Altogether, a good hot dog place. I'll be coming back.

    (4)
  • Kyle Z.

Had the Chicago style dogs and fresh cut fries, both really good at a good value. The hot dog was loaded with all the toppings, the peppercinis were a nice addition as well. The basket of fries was huge! Skins on, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, perfect

OMG, after YEARS of looking for a place in Chicago that had a decent grilled chicken sammich, I've finally discovered Slim's! I don't know, maybe because this is a beef and hotdog kind of town, finding places with a worthy grilled chicken sandwich has been tough. Slim's grilled chicken is dang near perfect, not burnt tasting or bland or rubbery. Their spicy chicken po boy is my new obsession! Extra points for their very tasty fries and onion rings. Definitely a keeper.

My husband and I live in the area and we go Slims at least once a week when we are in need of something fast and good. Their chicken pita sandwich and caesar salad are our favorites. Definitely recommend this place to anyone who lives in the Ravenswood/Lincoln Square area

It's like the Monk's Coffee Shop of Chicago minus the old cashier and four snarky people talking about nothing. I love this place, it's ultra clean, well decorated, with a great staff. the best part is they offer all the great diner food without being a sloppy greasy mess. Everything tastes fresh and delicious, and nearly everything goes with the amazing fries. Did I mention how great the prices are.You gotta stop by this place.

My girlfriend and stopped in this place the other day for veggie burgers. Pretty good actually, and I don't often like the veggie burgers places sell. She really liked the curly cheese fries. The flat-screen tvs were cool. Price was fine. For (veggie) burger grub, I'd highly recommend.

This place is everything you could ask for in a neighborhood foot spot: great location, nice staff, speedy service, decent sized menu, and cheap prices. Their cheeseburger and steak sandwich are great and I'll definitely be back to try more!

LOVE the fries! Had them when they first opened and they are WAY better. Worth blowing my cholesterol! Dogs are great! Simple and reasonable. What more would you want?!
