Bacci Pizza, YOU GOT SERVED. I'm a HUGE large-slice-of-pizza eater. I used to think that Bacci was the best deal in Chicago. And then Papa Ray's landed in my neighborhood. And now I go to Bacci merely out of convienience...or something. At Papa Ray's, their crust is far tastier, their toppings far more generous, and OH MY GOD it's cheaper! Cheaper than five bucks in Chicago? Am I dreaming? Also, they lay out the Chicago Sun-Times and they have a TV that is usually playing episodes of Ax Men. What's there not to love? In conclusion: Logan Square, rejoice!

Pizza delivery was fast and pizza was good, but my order was wrong. Don't plan to order again. Sorry.

I'll admit I only went for a slice not for any of the specialty pizzas that everyone is raving about -- but what I got will not have me returning to try any of their other pizzas anytime soon. It was thick, doughy and the sauce was tasteless. Sure, they're cheaper than Bacci and closer to home than Bacci, even WAY friendlier than Bacci -- but I would rather have a bad night of Bacci (and you Bacci fans out there know what I'm talking about) than a slice from Papa Rays. It really just didn't do it for me. That and their soda fountain wasn't working properly so everything was really flat.

Ok so from time to time I would order from them because the pizza is pretty good!!! Why I give them 5 stars though?!?! I wasnt able to go home for Christmas and surprise surprise....they were open! Super excited! Plus when they arrived early they threw in a dessert as a Christmas to me! Thanks Papa Ray!!!

Two words: Greek Pizza Feta cheese, mozzarella cheese, REAL black olives (none of that canned business - canned olives are one of my biggest pet peeves), fresh tomatoes, fresh garlic, fresh basil... need I say more? Honestly - my expectations weren't high. I was thinking it was just going to be another mediocre logan square spot. This was honestly some of the best pizza I've had in years. The crust was crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. It also had an amazing hint of garlic in the crust. YUM! Can't wait to go back. I am very scared of what this place could potentially do to my waistline!!!!

This place doesn't play any jokes when it comes to their pizza. Hot wings are great on the side.

  • Dave L.

The pizza is pretty good (except the second time I went it was a little stale) and the price is great for the amount of food you get. The staff is all very friendly which is a plus. Nothing angers me more than to know the guy who made my pizza is a jagoff. Another plus, every time I've gone in there they've been playing some form of documentary about guys hunting snakes and/or other giant reptiles. I don't know about you but that's all I ask for in life. And finally, I like their toppings kiosk. They don't just do the usual parmesan and pepper flakes shakers. They have garlic powder, salt, pepper, Cholula hot sauce, etc. And they have little cups for you to take some home. That's pretty awesome. I love condiments. My only complaint is it seems like all the slices are made as cheese and then they add the toppings when they put the individual slice in the oven. So when it comes out, the toppings are still loose and tend to fall off the pizza, which makes eating the bacon pizza kind of a pain in the ass. I haven't had Bacci's in a while so it's hard to compare but the fact that Ray's is like two blocks from my apartment is all the reason I need to go back.

So I found my new pizza place since Piece will deny me delivery, though I am less than a mile away. Humpth. Points below: -2 medium pizzas = $39ish with tip -Cheese with basil - awesome...my new favorite type of pizza. -Sausage...came with mushrooms, peppers, and onions....without even asking....awesome! -Delivery came within the hour. -Only complaint...mediums were a bit teeny tho 6 people were fed without being overly full. Fantastic party pizza for drunkards. Enough said.

First the slice of pizza is more like a whole pizza, shaped like a slice. And for $4 with a pop, I'm not complaining. The pizza is definitely tasty too, and had that nice thick crust that makes pizza so good. I only ate one of the monster pieces so I can't vouch for ordering a whole pizza or for the delivery or any of the other ingredients but for a "slice of pizza" kind of place it's good Pros: huge piece, fairly fast to get one slice out (I went with a huge group, so we may have overloaded them but it was still pretty quick to get us all our food), cheap Cons: it was boiling hot in the little place, if you can, order to go, not only is it hot, it's tiny, I ended up standing over the trash can to eat just to I was out of the way (thank God they have one of those enclosed ones, or that would be disgusting). Overall I think the food is good, if you're going for a fast HUGE meal, go here, you can even share a slice with a friend and have more than enough food.

The PROS: - The pizza was delivered when they said it would be: about 45 minutes after ordering. - It's super dense (this means I don't eat as many slices, which means there are leftovers). - The online coupon gave us two 18 inch cheese pizzas for $20. The CONS: - THIS IS THE SALTIEST PIZZA EVER. - The tiramisu is borderline horrible. I mean, I still ate it, but that's mostly because my body craved something sweet after all of the salty. I guess you shouldn't expect decentish tiramisu from a pizza delivery joint, but it was surprisingly bad. Definitely not worth ordering again, even with the online coupon. If I could give this 1.5 stars, I would.

I was looking for a new pizza delivery because I am sick of Marcello's charging so much. (always seemed like I spent $30 and up for a pizza after tax delivery, etc even with coupons, which seem to require a $25 minimum too-boo.) I read decent reviews for Papa Ray's and it's near my house so I gave it a shot. I was pleased with the quick delivery time and quality and quantity of ingredients. I was also happy with the price. You get free delivery if you order using the website. Bonus. I got the Florentine pie (spinach, tomatoes, garlic and basil) and added mushrooms. The crust was thick enough to support the toppings, nice. I also thought the sauce WAS flavorful as pizza delivery sauce goes. considering it was all veggie it had very good flavor. I suppose the fresh garlic didn't hurt! All in all a good solid pie and a good value (Medium pizza for about $22 including the tip). I will order again next time I fall off the Weight Watchers wagon and order pizza again!

  • Melissa N.

We were very disappointed by this based on the wonderful yelp reviews. The wings were so breaded that you couldn't even taste them. the pizza was average but the crust, usually the BEST PART, was tasteless. For 12 wings and a medium pizza, plus tip for $40. NOT WORTH IT! Booooooo

  • George C.

Really good pie. I've only ordered online, but each time, the delivery time has been estimated at an hour, and we always get the pizza in about 25 minutes. The crust is thin, so it can get soggy if you load on the toppings, but simple 1 or 2 ingredient thin crust delivered to your door doesn't get a lot better than this in this town.

  • Sarah D.

super cheap. easy online ordering is really nice. delivery is not the fastest BUT HEY, i live like a mile away so i'm the lazy one.

Super cheap, but not very good. If you're in college or on a super tight budget this place could keep you alive..

So people talk about Chicago deep dish or stuffed pizza, and foldable New York style pizza. There's California style pizza, which is lower in the carbs and grease and has fun Asian inspired modifications, like Thai style with peanut sauce. In certain areas in the South, pizza is served on a thin dry crust that's crispy, like a cracker. I'm a Buffalo native. And people do not give enough attention to BUFFALO style pizza, a happy compromise between Chicago and New York. Thicker than New York style, and thinner than Chicago - gigantic well done slices that can support an insane weight of toppings, like caramelized onions. The edges are usually a little burnt; Buffalonians peel off the black crispies and eat them. While Chicago sauce is sweet, and NY style is tangy, Buffalo style falls right in between with half sweet half tangy sauce. Bocce's sets the tone for Buffalo style pizza in Buffalo, with sweet runners ups like Just Pizza. The huge Italian-American population lead the way with the more gourmet stuff, coming up with inventions like clam pizza with white sauce at a place called Romeo and Juliet's on Hertel Ave. Regardless of the type of pizza, it's always served up with a side of garlic powder or garlic salt. No offense to Papa Ray's, who claims to make Chicago style pizza. But they serve Buffalo style pizza. It's unmistakable. Looks like they have pizza and wing deals as well, which is usually how pizza is ordered in Buffalo. If you're an aficionado of different regional pizza styles, definitely hit this place up. Their pizza is great. I'll definitely be back to try the wings.

Papa Ray's is my kind of place. I can't praise this place more. I visited recently after a ten hour day of hauling cubs fans on a rickshaw and had such a fierce hunger. I sort of don't even want to write such a good review of it because it is such a hidden gem. For instance all anyone could ever need is in their huge pizza slice special, with a soda. The only complaint I have is that they give away togo boxes and Styrofoam cups automatically, however the cuisine for the price cannot be beat. For one the pizza is stellar. I am not usually a fan of the reheat to eat slice special, but when the pizza is right it tastes even better. Great original crust with no excessive cornmeal or flour. The perfect thickness for a monster slice, not thin or cut up into silly little squares, not thick or excessively greasy. The sauce is pretty primo, not sweet, but great with good blend of herbs in it. The cheese on it is not excessive, but has a great amount of grease. Pretty much perfect for the fold and go. If you decide to dine in, you get a slice that encompasses a whole cafeteria tray. There is only one long counter with the daily newspaper behind it, much like a men's urinal stall that has a perfect dive-y feel that I can get down with. You can't but help, talk to your neighbor there and encourages interaction. The staff is always nice and friendly, and yes it is a little warm in there, but hell there making pizza...what do you expect. There is a television there which I usually hate, however it is filled with nature shows. They hit the bullseye on this one!!! I mean where can you watch a recently deceased baby seal get devoured by giant starfish, and carnivorous worms while devouring your pizza??? I sort of hope this spot does well, but I love the fact it is small and quaint. This is not some run of the mill pizza joint, it has pizazz. I wish them the most success and I am looking forward to how their buisness will grow and adapt. I hope they get patio seating!

ok so i was passing by here after running some errands and i needed some food. so i stopped in and ordered the monster slice and pop 3.99 deal (cheese, pepperoni or sausage) and i ordered some fries since i figured i would be hungry after just a slice of pizza...anyhoo all of this came up to only about 7 bux....if you're expecting a monster slice to be that little sliver you get after partying in the viagra triangle then you are completely mistaken! it's def like a quarter of a large pizza...insane....the fries are fresh cut and were pretty good but def not the strong point...the pizza was just as good as it was the first time i went here...this place is def on my 'hood list...

  • Andy M.

Stumbled on this place today while waiting to sign the lease on our new apartment. We went with the $3.99 lunch special ("monster slice and soda"), which we thought was going to be a ripoff until we saw the size of the slice -- you could basically put some rigging on it and sail it around Lake Michigan. And not only was it huge -- they make good pie. We had standard pepperoni, but it was tasty. We'll be back for sure ... especially since we now live right down the street!

  • Amanda C.

The food was cheap and the delivery person was friendly and on time. The benefits probably end there, but my friends and I are partially to blame for ordering the family special: 1 XL cheese pizza, wings, rib tips with fries and a 6 pack of Diet Coke cans. The pizza was probably the greasiest I've ever had with a chewy gummy consitency. Wings and rib tips were under flavored and fatty, fries were ok. I really can't fault Papa Ray's for the stomach ache I endured after eating this since clearly I saw the trash I was ingesting. Family special was $29.99. Wouldn't order again but it was a ton of food for what you pay.

Just tried out Papa Ray's last night for the first time. I, too, was excited when I saw a new pizza and wing place open up right around the corner from my house. My wife and I are pretty picky about our pizza, and we are especially picky about our wings. We both agreed that the pizza was really tasty. We just ordered a pepporoni and onion pizza and were floored about how much flavor it had. The crust, which they boast as "butter crust," was what sets their pizza apart from others. We both agreed that it was hands down better than Domino's (next door) and also much better than Marcello's (the other place that delivers nearby). We are really excited about trying out their specialty pizzas. They don't really have any cooking gimicks, like woodfired or anything. They simply cook in a big pizza oven. I only gave four stars because I have to say that the wings left something to be desired. In their defense, I spoke to the manager as I was ordering, and he pre-warned me that these are not the same wings they will have in the future. Apparently, they didn't get the right ones in, and the wings in the future will be bigger and better. I absolutely love wings, so hopefully this place will come through in the future with some truly stellar stuff. Not really an eat-in pizza place, as there is just a counter with bar seats. So, get it to-go or delivery. Or, you can order a slice and eat it on the spot. I look forward to ordering all of my pizza from Papa Ray's for as long as I live in Logan Square. Though it is not as good as Bricks, it is the best in the area.

The people working here have a great attitude, I can recommend it on that basis alone. People at Quencher's, Cole's, The Whistler, or Fireside Bowl should make this place a mandatory stop before the 12:00 closing time. The pizza is not going to knock your socks off - it's pretty standard medium-thick crust stuff, and their thin crust is pretty decent but is not gunning for the super-authentic-italian-crack-thin-crust crowd. It's better than a lot of pizza you can get, but it's not going to replace Piece on the quality scale anytime soon. I must say the monster slice is an awesome deal. It's intimidatingly large, comes with a drink, and costs a little over $4 with tax. Word to the wise: if you get wings, don't automatically choose the 'suicide' hotness. We did, based on heat levels we're used to from Buff Joe's - these were quite a bit hotter. I consider myself to be pretty hardy for a WASP when it comes to spice, but the suicide wings definitely brought their A-game. Only for those who laugh with derision and pity at typical hot wings.

SO if you haven't figured out by now... I LOVE food! Papa Ray's Pizza is by far the best pizza I've had in Logan Square. It has flavor, its affordable and its close. I'm not sure about you, but I can't beat that. Because pizza is my fav... I get two slices, but for the avera

Good place for delivery. They're ALWAYS early! The wings are decent, as are the calzones. What I love here are the rib tips! Ever since the Carson's close by closed down, it's been tough to find decent tips in the area. These tips are meaty, tender and flavorful. Papa Ray's sauce is also REALLY good. The tips are served over a bed of crispy fries that just get covered in sauce and are SO GOOD. The tips were a miss the last time I ordered (sauce was....off? oily and thin) but I'm hoping that was just a fluke.

Quality toppings, thoroughly cooked pizza, not too thick, not too thin. LOVE IT!!! When I want hand tossed pizza, this is my new Chicago go-to. Nuff said. Now go order some!!!

I had to try this place, just because I live so close. Delivery is always wicked fast and the food is piping hot. The pizza was not good, too much crust. The chicken wings are good though! So that is what I usually get.

  • Bo L.

Pretty solid $4 large slice and a pop deal, but you get what you pay for. The quality of the pizza is honestly inconsistent, but in a way I kind of like that. If it wasn't for this place being on my street I probably would never go there, but since it is I'll continue to enjoy a decent $4 slice.

Uh oh there is a new pizza player in Logan Square. Tried out Papa Rays last week just to get away from the norm. The pizza showed up in under an hour and it was blazing hot, so hot that we had to wait 10 minutes before we could tear into it. Thats a big plus when it comes to pizza delivery. I mean I could barely carry it up the stairs from the bottom it was so hot. The sauce was thin but good, and there were definitely enough toppings to satisy my needs. The crust was a little thicker than I like, but it was still crispy and soft all at the same time. The biggest problem I have is the pizza wasn't cut in squares but instead like a pie. Not sure why I require pizza in squares but I definitely prefer it that way. It could be a Chicago thing like no ketchup on hot dogs, kitty-corner not catty-corner, and soda not pop. Oh well overall it was very good and it will definitely make my pizza rotation in the future.

this is not pizza it's some kind of bread with cheese on top. please learn how to make the dough. i don't like pizza hut or dominos but if this place has 4 stars then those should have probably 5. it's good if you're drunk so i'll go and have a sixpack see if i can eat it after.

Totally shocked by the Monster slice! We thought it was just a joke. Well, let me tell you, it's nooot: that pizza slice is def a MONSTER bc of its size, huuuuge! AND DELICIOUS, of course. And the price, wow, only $3,99: never thought that I could get such a complete meal for that price! Basically it's a normal pizza, not just a slice! They serve it already cut in two, so that if you are too surprised by the size, you can take the other half home with you in a box haha. Of course you must try the bacon one, lol. Oh and the guys there are so nice and funny, cabaret. You will def have a good time in there! Thumbs up!

Given today was lazy Sunday, I was definitely in no mood to cook. I'm new to the Chicago area and have not yet figured out the delivery hot spots. I probably spent an hour on Yelp reading mixed reviews about various restaurants and could not decide where I wanted to take my chances. Just as I was going to give up and raid the fridge, I came across Papa Ray's menu. I don't know what it was about the menu, but I thought hey, I'll give this a shot. After all, the menu stated it was their "grand opening," so I figured they probably had something to prove. - Rather than call, I exercised their online ordering system. I will give it two thumbs up as it was quite easy to navigate the site. - I ordered the sausage pizza and cheese bread at about 415 pm. The estimated delivery time was 5:00 pm. Kudos to Papa Ray's for on time delivery! Food arrived around 450. - Food was piping hot. Always a plus. Delivery guy was cordial. - I liked the sausage pizza because unlike most pizza places where sausage pizza only consists of two ingredients, Papa Ray's adds mushrooms, onions and green peppers. Needless to say, I was impressed. - Cheese bread was awesome! It had a nice hint of garlic. Great portion for an app! - Only fault I could find was that the small pizza was quite small. Thankfully, it was enough for me, but had I been a guy with super awesome appetite, it may not have been enough!

First experience the pizza crust was soggy and the delivery driver got lost. ordered recently, and much better. Crust crispy, great flavored sauce, and the delivery driver was punctual.

I have to have had at least 40 gigantic pieces of pizza from this place since they opened. The first thing you should know is they have a BUFFET OF HOT SAUCES. Automatic win in my book. The only issue I have with Papa Ray's is it's too delicious and the slices are about 7 bites more than I can comfortably eat. But then there's this little corner of pizza there, mocking me, so I've got to finish the thing off. I typically promptly fall asleep after. In short, go to Papa Ray's, get a giant slice of GREAT pizza for less than $5, slather it in your favorite hot sauce (cus they've got it) and live happy.

I have been searching for a decent, big, affordable calzone around here for some time now. Papa Ray's has it. Especially their lunch specials, its like $6-7 for a calzone, fries and a drink. I can barely get through half of the calzone let alone the fries before I hit a brick wall. I havent even tried their pizza the calzones are so good! But i'm sure its good. The garlic cheesy bread is awesome as well. Decent specials and very affordable. Takeout sometimes is strangely a little slow, but delivery has always been fast for me. Good stuff!

Following a long night of drinking festivities, last Sunday was one of those long, tired, hungover days - apparently a fantastic day for some pizza bigger than the size of my head. I'm not kidding, I've never seen a slice of pizza that big. Ever. And its giant pizza that tastes amazing. And it's only 4.99. I'm. Still. In. Awe. I upgraded my drink to the monster size and the cup was gigantic. I think it could easily fit one and a half liters in it. All three of us ate outside, talked, and just had a great experience. Funny enough, we all had to fold our pizza in half just to eat it. It lasted us two meals, though! I can't wait to go to Papa Ray's when I'm not hungover. Plazzio's, watch out - Papa Ray's is fast approaching.

I always hit up papa rays when I'm in the area because I love the monster slice. It's actually really bomb pizza and who else in Chicago has a slice that big? Show me. Not to mention I found another papa rays where I live. Dope.

The pizza here is pretty decent. I really do like the suicide hot wings though, they are hot enough to bring you to tears which is what I want when I order the hottest level of wings from a restaurant. And their other sides, salads and mac and cheese are good. Also the online ordering option allows for free delivery which is nice.

In the midst of this crazy storm- I stopped into my local favorite to pick up a "The Works" calzone- not only did they stay open late to take the (my) last order of the night -but the staff was kind enough to go out of their way and walk me to my car under a dry umbrella out of their own good will; stellar customer service. *****(5 stars) Keep up the good work & great food!

A harmonious work environment. Heard delivery driver talking to cashier about how wasteful it is to waste paper. Whites and browns respect each other here. Crust is too thick (about half the thickness of a Bacci's). Size is about the size of Bacci's but for 3.99 (and comes with a soda). A little too little cheese. The place smells like Papa John's. It's too bad that the nicest restaurants don't often taste the best.

Holy Huge Pizza Batman ! We were going to a house warming party and my partner was hungry so we figured lets get a slice and this place was just around the corner I see the sign that says home of the Monster slice, so I tell my partner to get me a slice and a drink, I go in a little later and they bring out not one but two huge slices each!, so I am what did you do I told you a slice ? a slice is like a 1/3rd of a pizza he didn't pay attention to the sign or front window as he walked in so we ended up looking like we were deviling pizza to the party as we had plenty of left overs to take home with us the pizza was great nice crust not too thick or doughy, plenty of cheese but not flooded with sauce either these guys do pizza right and if you go away hungry that's your fault

four stars....? you yelp people have got to be kidding me. I am beginning to think that regular / normal pizza in Chicago aside from Piece is a myth. Every other place I've gotten pizza from that is not chicago style pizza, Papa Ray's included, has been awful. you know that expression that goes, "pizza is like sex - even when it's bad, it's good." this expression does not apply to Papa Ray's pizza. I got a vegetarian pie (Florentine) that was described as the following: "Papa Ray's pizza sauce, fresh tomatoes, fresh spinach, fresh garlic and topped with basil. " sounds good right? I was imagining when i ordered this that it would be a pretty generic pizza with all kinds of fresh ingredients on top...but that was not the case. Well, first off, it appeared to be burned on top - or overcooked. the crust was super hard, and the cheese had turned brown in spots. The sauce had that sugary, out of a can of hunt's taste that can only be rivaled by the local school cafeterias, and I can't really recall tasting much fresh garlic on this pizza. The "fresh" ingredients were all buried beneath the layer of overcooked cheese, so that was disappointing too. no idea if they were fresh....but yes - they were bland / watery. The mere fact that I ordered a medium pizza for two of us and I still have half of it left three days later goes to show you how bad this pizza really is. The cheesy breadsticks were pretty greasy / generic, and the sauce that came with them - watery, sugary, not good. To top it all off, the pizza was pretty expensive for what it is, and there is a minimum and delivery fee on grub hub. Truly uninspired pizza that took a long time to deliver...although it was the super bowl so i wouldn't hold that against them *too* much. you're really better off biting the bullet and going to Piece, eating at Santullos, or just making your own.

Calzone--get it. I've tried to recreate their calzones with homemade dough and fresh ingredients, and about $20 and two hours later I wished I had just ordered from them. It is seriously crave-able. The pizza is a good choice when you are in the mood for a cheesy, Ninja Turles-esq pizza pie. If you want to dine-in, get a giant slice (or share one) for pretty cheap. While you dine, read some of the local paper spread across the thin strip of counter where about ten people can get there hands greasy. I'm not talking the best pizza I've ever had. This is in that category of pizza that is reserved for pizza parties, the kind you had as a kid. I want pizza! P-I-Z-Z-A!

Pizza's fine, but when their own website advertises a coupon for a "free 6-pack of soda with a purchase of $15 or more" and they rudely refuse to honor their own coupon, I strongly suggest taking your business elsewhere. I spent close to $20 on food, and wanted to redeem the coupon they have available ON THEIR OWN WEBSITE, and was told again and again that they "don't care" whats on their website, they're not going to give me the 6-pack for free. Who does that? What is wrong with you? If you advertise items for specific prices - and I have those prices and coupons IN WRITING from YOUR WEBSITE, honor them. You lost a customer. Bummer because I enjoyed the pizza.

I am somewhat new to Logan Square and still in search of nice pie places. This one is a new try, and it hit the spot. GF and I got the Papa Special (any 4 toppings), w snausage, pupperoni, garlic, and onions. The crust is buttery ala Lou Malnati's. Crispy right around the edges, but chewy other than that. Sauce was good. Cheese was good. Snausage tasted lovely, and it and the other toppings were applied to the pie in heaping proportions. Don't listen to the naysayers. This stuff is just great.

When I ordered Papa Ray's, I was babysitting my 3 and 5 year old nephews. It is very well priced, we got two large pizzas and cheese sticks for free with a coupon. My nephews liked it so I'd say I got my money's worth. If you are feeding adults I wouldn't recommend it though. The pizza sauce tasted like Ketchup. I'm sure I wouldn't order again, not even for the kids. Usually, I can wolf pizza down like a 250 lb frat boy, but I couldn't eat more than a slice of this, and one bread stick. very greasy.

Read some moderately good reviews and decided to order their wings here. They've got several choices but I went with Spicy and BBQ. Their spicy sauce tasted like watered down buffalo sauce; their BBQ sauce wasn't anything special - tasted overly sweet without any smoky kick whatsoever. The wings were decent sized and the price wasn't terrible - I may have given this place 3 stars, but after discovering a couple hairs cooked into their wings, I bumped this place down to 2. I'm not sure if I'd be willing to return to give their pizzas a fair try.

Like any yelper worth his/her salt I am fiercely territorial. I want my neighborhood to have great entertainment and dining options. This includes lots of places to get pizza, because, well, a Chicago neighborhood with only a Domino's is just sad. That was the story of my corner of the city before I received a flyer in my mailbox for Papa Ray's. Hooray for another pizza joint in Logan Square! Papa Ray's is located in the wasteland between the Fireside and Quenchers on Fullerton Ave. Because they just opened you can score some great deals like a giant slice + pop for just $3.99, or $13.99 for a large specialty pie. Sounds good to me. But what about the product? The menu includes everything from rib tips and wings to salads in addition to your standard pizza variations. I tried the Florentine which was surprisingly delicious (even with way too much garlic). However, I didn't see any deep dish options on the menu, why? I like that they're open late and deliver all day. I also found out that Papa Ray's is owned by the same people who run Pinnochios. I for one will be frequenting this location as it is close to my house and a million times better than Domino's up the block. Papa Ray's: 1, Chain pizza: 0.

I was looking for a local pizza place we could eat lunch at, and found this one on Yelp. It was 103 outside, and probably over 90 inside. If there was any air conditioning, it wasn't working. There were a couple of ceiling fans that were barely turning. The waitress didn't appreciate turning them up, but she did. I ordered a cheese calzone and my date ordered the rib tips. There are only 6 counter chairs available for sitting, but we had no trouble finding 2 open. The calzone was the best I have ever had, the rib tips were just so-so. A good place for take out if you call ahead.

On my way home from the gym the other day I fell pray to the $3.99 monster slice and a pop deal. With a $10 bill in my gym shorts, my wife and I decided to stop in to try out the new pizza joint in Logan Square. I must say that I was presently surprised by the quality and tastiness of the pizza. My wife had the classic pepperoni. I had the bacon pizza with a cold glass of Pibb Xtra (AKA Mr. Pibb). Both pieces were FREAKING HUGE (almost 1/4 of a large pizza) and tasty. I will definitely stop by again for a slice sometime in the future.

This is the best pizza in Logan Square. If you need a quick fix, walk in and order a single slice, and you won't have to eat the rest of the day - one slice could feed a small third world village for a week. Otherwise, call in for delivery. The pizza is so good because the hit the bullseye on every key aspect of pizza. The crust has a perfect balance of crunch and chewiness, the cheese is plentiful for a regular crust pizza and not at all gummy, the tomato sauce is made fresh, and the toppings are high quality. Finally, it is just as good reheated a couple of days later. What more can you ask for from a local pizza joint? Boiler Room is great if you are going out, but if you are staying in, order Papa Rays. Delivery is vague - whenever I order it is "within an hour" - but accurate - it arrives within the hour. Its no Domino's, but thank heavens for that.

Ugh. My wrist hurts. :(Why? No! thats not why Mr. Jokie Joke!! It's because I decided to carry my single slice of bacon pizza home with me. YEA. You heard me correctly. The slice of pizza they give you is frickin HUGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!! So huge that it is hard to carry the pizza slice with one hand. So big it might even make your wrist sore:) How huge? Really huge! Really Really huge! All for the price of about $5.00 you can get a soda and a pizza slice so big that it comes in its own pizza box. You heard correctly. The slice is so big, that it comes in a box....not a plate. hell....I bet you some places would call this slice a small pizza. I am not kidding. The pizza is 1. HUGEEEEE 2. HEAVYYYYYY 3. TASTYYYYYYY This represents an extraordinary value. The pizza was crisp, and it was covered from top to bottom (huh?) in bacon. I can imagine them uping the price on this pizza because its too good of a value. Pizza as big as your head. no joke. I'm emotionally drained. I'm going to cry now.

No, this is not going to be the best pizza in Chicago. If that's what you're looking for, move along little doggie. BUT, if you are looking for a fast, cheap, good pizza (especially at 1 in the morning...you know who you are), this place is like a desert oasis. The pizza slices are literally bigger than your head. Literally. As in the actual measurements of the pizza are bigger than the width of my head. This is based on careful scientific research. Nasa approved. If you call ahead, they can have your pizza ready in 5 minutes. I actually just did that, and am spending my five minutes writing this review. I'll be honest, I think they're number 2 on my phone's quick call list, and they've earned that spot.

This is the worst pizza that I ever have had in my life. It's always a bad sign when the employee bathroom does not have hand soap. I am quick to give praise when a place deserves it but this experience and pizza left a bad taste in my mouth.. Literally.

This place is surely turning into a go to for me. Prices are on point, specials are in effect, and it's waking distance. Just the fact that it shits all over Baccis is worth it. Better quality slices and sauce. The main pickups are a slice, a calzone, wings, fries, and a salad. The slice alone is large and with fries plus drink will set you back only $6. I don't like that they don't half and half wings but since I've been frequenting regularly they make the exception. Definitely go for the garlic parm. I have to try the teriyaki soon. Their staple is the calzone and I know if my sister likes it it has to be good cause I'll eat anything except for what my good friend Mel ever makes. I usually build my own with sausage, pepperoni, garlic, and basil. Bacon should get an addition next time. Ordered a salad once, chicken caesar, and even that was refreshing and large. The menu has cut out coupons and they stick to them. The location itself is small but I like that they highlight the Sun Times on the wall for the day and have aTV if you're waiting. The workers have always been on point and some even remember me. That's either good memory or I have to switch it up some. I haven't stepped foot in a Baccis since I've learned of this place. Do the same.

Sorry, but the wings just aren't juicy or flavorful. Maybe its just the parmesan garlic ones. The pizza is also not great, but if you are starving it will suffice. The lunch specials are cheap, but being the food tastes so-so, I guess you are getting what its worth. Always nice service there though.

Dayum... Chang your name to Papa Salty's. Salt. So much salt on everything. Rib tips were cooked well but so salty they were almost inedible. Like beef jerky. The "boneless wings" are just chicken tenders cut into bite size pieces. Pizza had barely any sauce and was crazy salty too. Stop with the salt. Seriously man, someone is going to get hurt. Ive ordered here twice now, and it was the same both times Never again Papa Salty's.

Definitely giving Papa Ray's 5 stars!! Called in to ask if they could pleaseeeee make me a HEART SHAPED PIZZA...the guy who answered the phone and put me on hold told me they'd never done that before but they were going to try! When i got there to pick up the pizza everyone was super sweet !! The cashiers again told me its not something they'd done before but since i was giving it to my bf who had a very bad day, they would make an exception. They honestly went above and beyond what I expected! PLUS the pizza tasted delicios (thanks to the cooks) THANKS PAPA RAY'S!!

I really like this joint. They have descent coupons, ordering online is on par with the pizza industry, and the pizzas are consistently good. Most of the pizzas I order are regular new york style. Customized I highly recommend adding extra cheese as one of your main ingredients. The mozzarella they add is a lot and extra gooey. Yeah!

The food here is pretty good; however, I will not be back because the employees made me pretty uncomfortable. We were eating at the restaurant for a quick meal before heading to a friend's house. We weren't given our drinks when we paid for our food and when we asked for the cups when the food came out, the guy quickly yelled "we charge for drinks here." Yeah, we know. We already paid for them. So, I felt awkward sitting there trying to eat after that. Then, as we were sitting at the counter eating, one of the employees (owner?) came in and yelled at the other employees about keeping the front door clean. Right in front of us. It was bizarre. I might get take out from here next time or something, but I don't want to go through the uncomfortable feeling of listening to the workers here yell at me and each other while I am trying to eat.

If you've ever heard of Bacci's, bear them in mind when ordering Papa Ray's. PIzza is pretty big, but Bacci's is bigger. Pizza lacks real kick, I think the sauce is just missing something...it's hard to pinpoint. Their massive amounts of ingredients are crazy, and great, but they somehow couldn't put it over the top for me. 2 stars for the value, and for their ability to use random cheeses in the mix. Beyond that their combos are still a little pricey, although open late usually means food on the cheap for me. The service has always been good though! I'm almost sad to say the truth...which means I want to like them more, but I genuinely just think you can do better at Plazzio's, John's on Western, or waiting for some real pizza at Pequod's.

I live a block away from Papa's. The only word appropriate for this establishment is magical. I've capped off so many evenings stumbling into this place for a $5 piece of heaven, it's almost like coming home at this point. Is it a little bit depressing that I'm on a first name basis with the cashier of a greasy pizza joint in Logan Square? Perhaps. That said, I wouldn't change a thing here - I really do enjoy the pizza (although I wouldn't put it anywhere near the stratosphere of Piece or Pequods) and you can't beat the price.

I had to update my review because I feel as though I am doing the community a disservice. Since my last review Papa Rays has gone downhill. I have been delivered at least 15 pizzas with the cheese slid off the side. I even specified to let the pizza cool before delivery to prevent the cheese from sliding off but it has still come multiple times with the same issue. I even took pictures and walked into the store once, not trying to complain simply picking up an order and showed the guy behind the counter who seemed to care. He took my info and said the owner would contact me. That never happened. I still like the ingredients so I continue to order but now requesting the pizza "well done" to prevent the cheese from sliding off. That has had mixed results. A few have still had the cheese slid off. But now tonight for the second time this year I ordered delivery, was told an hour, no problem. hour and a half goes by no pizza, no call. so we call the shop, first they ask if we are at an address that we have never ordered from, then were put on hold for a few minutes. The guy came back on the line saying the pizza is out for delivery. About five minutes later (exactly how long of a drive it is from their shop to my house hitting every red light) the cold pizza and wings finally show up obviously done for more than an hour. The first time this happened this year, I called after an hour and a half and they tried to tell me that the driver was knocking on my door and I never answered. I had been sitting on my front porch the entire time. No driver was ever at my place, I did have a missed call though. Note: knocking on a door and calling are not the same thing. So this was the last time I will ever order from Papa Rays and I have given them far too many chances if you ask my wife. I would advise if you want what you ordered when they say it will be there, hot and not destroyed by a delivery driver, try someplace else.

I've tried. Over and over, I've tried. The pizza is just bad. The sauce is lousy, mostly salty and acidy. No matter what I've tried, it just doesn't taste all that good. This is no Father and Son's... The chicken wings are mediocre. Some kinda Sysco bulk frozen pre-packaged wings that they deep fry and then drown in some kind of salty hot sauce. Even plain, they're just bland and not really flavorful. Meh. We will not go back.

I happened to order from here once when a very sudden pizza craving set in! at 1AM! (yikes!) Anyway what's awesome about this place is that it's open for delivery till 2AM everyday. I found it a little difficult to find a restaurant open this late in my neighborhood so this is my to go place if at all I'm hungry at crazy hours. I would give the pizzas 3 stars though, I've honestly had better..being I ONLY have cheese/ simple(2-3 toppings max) veggie pizzas. The first time I ordered a veggie pizza, the base had tomato ketchup instead of a good pizza sauce. (I hate ketchup!) So couldn't get past half a slice. The second time I ordered a plain cheese pizza, it was a lot better than my first time experience. It was good but again, not the best. However, their Monster Chocolate Cake is amazing! If you have a sweet tooth like me, you'd see that the name does every bit of justice to the cake, it's huge, chocolatey, so delicious and actually enough for two. I just prefer to eat mine little by little, at regular intervals instead. :P Customer service is also very good. Food always arrives on time so that's great.

I'm not giving them 5 stars because the pizza is infinitely memorable. It's probably not THE BEST I've ever had. But Papa Ray's satisfies where it counts. It's tasty, it's inexpensive, they're open late, the folks at the Fullerton store are always nice (I've never hit them in a bad mood), and the mac & cheese is SO POSITIVELY DELICIOUS. Did I mention the mac & cheese is also inexpensive? Their fries ain't bad either. Seriously, what more could I want? I'd probably recommend them for walk-ins, and slices, since I've never had their delivery, but I've been going for over a year, and I have no complaints.

  • Brian L.

I'm going to have to grade this one poorly. I ordered delivery. A pepperoni pizza and the mac n cheese. The delivery guy was nice, but the food wasn't that nice. It's not "digusting" or anything, but it did make me scrunch my nose... the mac n cheese had a weird odor to it, not something that's gross but something that doesn't belong. It's definitely not the best mac I've had, but also not the worst. Perhaps eaten fresh it would be different. As for the pizza, it is pretty much standard rate "cheap pizza" though I can think of a couple other cheap places that do it better. The leftover pizza just didn't appetizer me either. I mostly only tried this place because I was looking for something different to try and I had a coupon. Won't order from here again.

  • Francisco F.

Pizzas here are average. They offer pizza by the slice, with a coke, and fries for $5. That's a good deal for someone wanting to get a full meal for a cheap price. Sometimes these pizzas lack cheese. That's disappointing! Also, the tomato sauce can be a little watery at times. If you find yourself at papa rays-- forget the pizza. Go for the cheese garlic breadsticks. It's just like a small pizza, 12" diameter, but they don't forget to add the cheese. Also, the added garlic makes for a good meal.

    (4)
  • Keith A.

Behold, the monster slice. Now, I've yet to have anything but monster slices at papa ray's, but that's just how it goes. The slices are exactly how they are described, monsterous. It's at least two big slices in one, and in reality you can probably make 3 good slices out of them. I also like how they hook you up with a drink as well for the $4 that you pay for the monster slice. I'd be fine with just paying for the slice alone, but getting a drink as well is awesome. I do have to note that the slices are usually nuclear hot when you first get them. The slice does need to cool down or else you'll burn the roof of your mouth. Trust me on that one, I've done it twice. Now that I'm in the area, Papa Ray's will be a go to for me. The monster slices are just too good to pass up and they are all of a couple of blocks from me.

  • Paul L.

I will say that the order and delivery were very fast, however the pizza and wings that I received were worse than "meh". They had absolutely no flavor. Close your eyes and imagine eating a frozen pizza and/or wings that you'd get at a grocery store. More bland than that.

Yummy, super cheesy pizza. I LOVED it! Bit on pricey side. Yeah, hard to believe. Dude, there are less expensive take out pizza places in manhattan, so I really don't understand this... But I liked. A lot.

  • Caitlyn M.

Love it, never had a bad order. Pizza, calzone, wings.. All good. I've enjoyed their speciality pizzas, some sound weird but they're awesome. And what's better? Walking distance. Can take the dog for a walk, pick up a case of beer and some solid pizza in a short walk. What's not to like? People are nice too.

This is a pretty reliable place with legit food. The wings are awesome! I usually get mild or BBQ but we decided to be adventurous and try teriyaki and it was SO GOOD! I love their Mac & Cheese. I recommend getting it with bacon. Delicious. The bosco sticks are also so awesome. Super fresh, soft, and cheesy. They remind me of the bosco sticks I used to have in grade school but better. I'm addicted. And of course, can't forget the monster slices! Great price for a crazy big slice of pizza. It's really good! It's not too thick, not too thin. The one problem with ordering Papa Rays is that there is so much food and it is easy to order wings, bosco sticks, fries, and whatever else and just max. I can't count how many times I've gotten bad tummy aches from the food because it is just so heavy and rich. I recommend sticking with one thing when you order. Either just do wings or just do pizza or just do mac and cheese. You better be feeling wild if you order a bunch of stuff at once. It ends up being a crazy max session which leads to an upset tummy if you don't control yourself haha! All in all, it's a good late night spot, and I will continue to order from them!

So I'm kind of a pizza snob. Just a little...in that when I go out to pick up a pizza or get on delivered I want the good stuff. Pequod's. Gino's. Beggar's. Giordano's. BUT...when I want a ginormous slice of pizza. I will come to Papa Ray's. The pizza is probably only two stars at its best. The service is fine, 3-4 star range. The price is 5 stars. $3.99 for the monster slice deal which gets you a drink and a slice of cheese, sausage or pepperoni (other toppings available for an extra $.50). The monster slice is literally a quarter of a large pizza. And at that price? I'm not complaining that the sauce and crust aren't great. It's cheap, ginormous pizza. What's not to like?

Solid 2.5 stars for their monster slices. If you like salty, cheesy, oily, roll-able slices, this is your kind of slice. A quarter way into the slice I had already had my fill. Too repetitious in flavor and got boring quickly. I didn't bother taking the rest of my slice to go. Slices and a fountain soda are about five bucks or so and offer free refills on the pop. Decent place with a tight dining area. Few high top chairs against a table of which lines the length of the room. For entertainment: A flat screen TV playing sports over the condiments area or reading material which is fashioned onto the wall behind clear plastic liner.

It's a pretty common thought that pizza is "great" when you're drunk and hungry. I would think, were the phenomenon well-known, that the concept of a "hungry pizza," however, would be almost universally condemned as "not so great." What is a "hungry pizza?" one might ask. Well "one," since you asked, it's a pizza that eats forks. A pizza that eats forks? Let me further explain. Some pizzas are so soft and doughy, yet firm to the cut, that they break off fork prongs (since they need to be ripped apart with a fork and knife to be eaten by all but the most dexterous pizza folders). And, due to the thickness, the fork prongs actually disappear inside the pizza. Finding them with the fingers is difficult, and messy, due to the fact that these pizzas are usually also very greasy and saucy. So a person (that person being me) usually finds them with the teeth - for better or for worse. Papa Ray's is this kind of pizza. Possibly the best example of this kind of pizza I've found in Chicago. Not that it's the best pizza in Chicago by far. Probably not even the best in Logan Square. In fact, while it's got location going for it (being the closest pizza joint to the Fireside Bowl and its proclivity for a drunken, ravenous crowd), there's not much else to separate it from a batch of other similar places. Not that this is a bad thing, necessary. The world needs giant greasy slice places for nights of drunken revelries. And the slices here would satisfy most Drunky McDrunkersons with their size and price. A soda and giant slice is just over $5 (even if they are sadly lacking in choices of sodas). And, while they're not the size of a certain, nameless, Ukrainian Village standby, they definitely take up almost an entire cafeteria tray. But what this pizza has in size, it lacks in zip. The tomato sauce is tame not only by Chicago-style deep dish standards but by the New York-style thin slice that it emulates. Along the wall by the silverware are hot sauces of all sorts to give it a bit of extra lift (extra life if you ask me). But why are these necessary? Can't the kick be built in? It's a friendly place and I love the newspapers they have along the wall to pass the time while eating as well. I just can't recommend going to it from any further away than Bob Inn. Though on Saturday, I admit, I walked there drunk from five blocks away and I know others who have as well. In fact, with how good this place is for a drunken crowd, they better be thankful no one has ever swallowed a fork prong eating there. That could get as messy as the pizza itself (in court).

Yes, yes, yessssssss! A "slice" of pizza is bigger than your head. I've been dreaming about their mac n cheese. It was orgasmically delicious and was pretty much bottomless. They have those authentic glass bottles of coke you can pop the cap off of. The only downside is that they need to update their menu because I tried to order the Mac n cheese and garlic bread special, but they don't have garlic bread...or regular bread. I asked if they could sub fries for it and I was told I would be charged extra. Still 5 stars. Dat mac doe!

Absolutely the worst pizza I've ever had in my entire life. It's really hard to screw pizza up but Papa Ray's seems to do it. First we ordered cheesy garlic bread and when we got it, it was definitely not garlic bread. It was basically a small pizza with butter, garlic and cheese, it was made with no bread but pizza crust. So really it was false advertising not to mention disgusting. It was so buttery and greasy that my hands were covered in grease and I had to use about ten napkins. So I decided to give the pizza a try. I grab a slice and the toppings and cheese fall off of the crust and onto the floor. I laughed at first because it was ridiculous and I couldn't believe it was real. So I threw the first piece out and carefully grabbed another one. After the first bite I was confused.. It didn't really taste like pizza, just like cheese, veggies and pepperoni. The sauce was nonexistent and that is why the toppings kept sliding off. I will never EVER order from here again. BLAHHHHH!!

Used GrubHub a little while back on this place and got a pizza and split some wings with a friend. The pizza was just okay. I've definitely had better, but because it was pizza, it was still edible and I enjoyed it. The wings were terrrrrible. Got the Teriyaki boneless wings and the sauce used on the wings was one of the worst I've ever tasted. Was not impressed at all, sadly. I used to really love this place since my friends lived really close by and I always enjoyed them, but that was a few years ago. This place has definitely seen better days in my opinion.

Best pizza place in the city. It's fast cheap and you get massive slices of pizza. I personally love everything on the menu especially the wings. If you are ever in Logan square late night hit this place up. They stay open till 2:00am

Papa Rays is awesome. The cheese pizza and cheese sticks are very good. The extra cheese pizza is loaded with an unholy amount of cheese. The boneless wings are pretty good. We recently discovered the mac n cheese! The last two times we ordered it I said, "This is literally the best mac n cheese I've ever had in my life." They're really on to something with that mac n cheese. I love it with jalepenos. I really like the chicken. Its good on pizza and in the mac n cheese. The restaraunt is tiny so we get it delivered, but its not a bad place to stop for a quick slice if you're solo for lunch. Order online and look for coupons on the website.

This place is good at 1 am when you're on your way home from the bar but not at 1pm. Sadly I was disappointed by the pizza. It tasted like cardboard and very bland. I will not be ordering the pizza again but when I do have a craving Their cheese fries are amaZing!

Got a carryout pizza from here a few nights ago and it was very much a "blah" experience as far as the food goes. The guy who took our order on the phone was polite and explained everything very well (specials etc) but the pizza itself was far from the best I've ever had. We ordered a thick crust large with 3 veggie toppings. The pizza itself looked absolutely delicious. However, it came out being one of those pizzas that is overly wet/damp/oily and all the toppings slid off every slice we pulled from the box. Actually, the consistency of the slices was so bad I had to scrap just about all of the toppings back out of the box and dump them on the slices. When it came to taste I couldn't really taste much of anything when eating the reconstituted slices. I'd probably make allowance for the crust around the edges, that was somewhat decent. for the 20+ dollars it cost for one of these pizzas I doubt I'll eat one again unless I'm really drunk and really hungry and all the other pizza places in the area are closed save this one.

Historically, mac and cheese is simple; some restaurants like to make is complicated. But alas, the mac and cheese form Papa Ray's is simply great. Yay. The pizza, it is always the same looking and tasting. I have had a meat lover's special, a pineapple bacon, and a mediterranean and they all taste the same. Strange.

My roommate has ordered delivery pizza from Papa Ray's several times, and I am really not a fan. I'm not sure if it's the cheese or the sauce or the crust... but it just tastes cheap and blah. But I did recently order the Build-Your-Own Mac-and-Cheese, and it was AWESOME! I ordered the large with several toppings and it fed me for three meals, which I think is a pretty good deal for the price. I also like that you can order online and get free delivery. I'm sure I'll be ordering the Mac again to cure my next hangover.

I was going to start this review with a "WARNING: BIASED" disclaimer based on the fact that we ordered the Chicken Club Special, which I understand is kind of faux pizza. But nevermind that; all Chicago pizza reviews are biased to a fault. Proceed at your own risk, here and everywhere else. My boyfriend and I just moved to Logan Square from Westridge (AKA Little India). In our previous hood, there was nothing outstanding in the way of local pizza, but a greasy hole in the wall, Villa Palermo, was wrestled in between halaal butchers and Pakistani diners, and the wonderful, paper-thin, gourmet-topping'ed Pizzeria Apart in Edgewater would still somehow deliver to us. We now live in the epicenter of a thousand taquerias, which is great for a lot reasons, but none of them are pizza. After considerable Yelp research, I ascertained that Dante was the best outreach for pizza. Friday night, 8:20 PM. 2 hour wait. No. So we called good old Papa Ray's, "your neighborhood pizzeria" (but in three neighborhoods). The product was good, but not great. Giordano's-like in their approach to thin crust. You see and taste three distinct layers: crust, hard cheese with the sauce scraping off the bottom, and then whatever toppings you chose to dump on top. In my book, great pizza kind of integrates all these layers so you feel like you're eating it all at once. I'm sure we'll order from them again relatively soon, for convenience's sake. But I wished they were a little better, and so will you.
