I come here for lunch all the time. Usually take it to go. They have never messed up and order. It is cheap and tastes great! They know me by face and love their customers!!! :) Go try it for yourself!

The first thing I noticed was that the place was immaculate. There wasn't a speck of dirt, grime or dust , not even under the tables. I ordered a tuna melt, some mozzarella sticks and a slice of baklava. Tuna melt was solid, can't really screw that up. The mozzarella sticks were a home run. Most places like this will overcook them. These were golden brown with perfect gooey cheese inside. Now, for the finale..... The absolute best slice of baklava I've ever had. The piece was gigantic and oozing with honey goodness. This was my first time at Papa Chris's, but definitely not my last.

This is one of my favorite local places. The owner and his wife are very friendly and the food is great. If you're in the mood for a burger, fries, and a coke I say eat here. Nice place to eat during those hot summer days.

Good, good, and more good. Try the Big Stan, gyros, the ribs, and so much more. This place has got you covered.

This place provides consistently high quality year in year out. Very good food always served hot and fresh. Friendly efficient service. A quick serve restaurant where you order and pick up your food at the counter. Their menu is rather extensive beyond gyros, hot dogs, burgers and fries. Unlike many of their competitors their food doesn't taste like it was sitting under a heat lamp for a half hour. There is ample seating.

  • Steph G.

YUM! Where can you get delicious Chicago food at a great value. The gyros was excellent and the tzatziki sauce tasted homemade. Crisp crinkle fries that were not greasy at all. The regular hot dog was okay. The dog itself was rather small and it was too "bun-y". Probably would order the 1/4 pounder one next time. Really great helpful and friendly owners and staff.

Been coming for over a year now for maybe twice a month. HAS NEVER FAILED. Always friendly, always fresh and very tasty. What else can I say?

My go-to place for Gyros! Great menu selection and there always happy to see you. Appears to be a family run place. Decent parking too.

Pretty good food here. The lady at the front was super nice. Food came out pretty quick also. The cheeseburger was great and a nice size. I Curly Fries with cheese and it was good. Fries were nice and crunchy. Had a small coke and everything cost me $9. Not bad. I would recommend splitting the curly fries if you have a friend with you, I barely put a dent in them. It's a huge serving. I will def come back when in the area and have a craving for a good burger.

  • Toula S.

I just can't say enough good things about the food and the people at this restaurant!!! The Greek chicken is my favorite!!! No other business can say they have been around on Touhy for 28 years!!!

One day, I had a sudden urge for a good burger around work, so I searched through Yelp and ended up finding Papa Chris. I usually don't write a review if I've only been there once, so I waited until my second visit. On my first visit, I went with a small Greek salad with chicken and curly fries. The food was amazing, especially the curly fries with honey mustard...mmm!! On my second visit, I had a cheeseburger with curly fries...also delicious though I probably wouldn't get a burger from there again. I am not a lover of fries, ever, but my friend told me to get them and they were so good, I couldn't resist again. I love the location (very close to work), the food, and the great customer service. It's a great restaurant for a fast and delicious lunch. I will def be back to try some of the other items on the menu, however, it may take me awhile to go back because I got in a severe car accident on my way back to work last week and I just don't want to go down that route for a bit.

I went in to buy hubby and I some hot dogs one very snowy night not too long ago. If you are going to sell a hot dog in Chicago, make sure it's on a poppy seed bun! That was the only thing wrong with the food here. The fries were crispy outside and tender inside. I order the cheese sauce on the side and it was nicely melted. I'll eat here again, but probably not a hot dog. A Chicago dog MUST be on a poppy seed bun.

I've lived in the area my whole life. I've been eating at papa chris for at least 15 years. Simple, good, neighborhood place. Owners work it themselves. They are always there. Nice people. The only thing I've ever had that I don't like was the Beef. Otherwise everything I've had has been great. Food is very affordable. Eat for 2 for under $20 easily. Recommend.

    (3)
  • Margaret A.

Food is average at best. Owner is very unfriendly and acts like he's doing you a favor serving you. Wouldnt go out of my way to visit him anyway.

  • Peter A.

WOW what a monster gyro plate. $9 and some change for a plate that I simply can't finish in one sitting. Quick, hot, and a great pita. Staff was friendly. Thank you!

    (4)
  • Alex M.

I won't knock. Yes, it's an American take on the typical Greek taverna, but this is where you go to get quality junkfood. The place where your buger is big and made of actual beef. The place where the gyros is excellent and slow-roasted. The place for all your junkfood needs. The staff is very friendly, generous, and the food is tasty while being very inexpensive. I definitely frequent Papa Chris when I have a gyros fix or want a decent burger.

We tried going here late one evening and as we were exiting our vehicle someone came out and told us they just shut off the grill. :( Being determined we returned the next evening. Come to find out it wasn't staff that came out to tell us it was closed it was a customer... nice customers here! The staff here was super-friendly too and we couldn't be more excited to see an ambulance pull in so they could grab something to eat. If anyone knows the good places it's them right!? I ordered a gyro and fries to eat-in. The gyro was quite good. TONS of meat, fresh pita and flavorful sauce and a generous order of fries. My friend ordered the spinach pie, which I guess was a mistake since she is from Greece and knows the good from bad. Unfortunately this tasted like it was made from frozen spinach... bitter and bitter could be. She also ordered the balkava which was better than the pie. I will return here, they were such nice people and my meal was very good and a good value too, I just will not be ordering the spinach pie. :)

This place sponsered my little league team when i was a kid. The owner and his wife are the nicest people i've ever met! Great fast food, and great service! Nothing has changed about this place since it opened. Newer establishments like Ivy's, could learn a thing or two from this place. Just like when I was 8, I go back whenever I crave good fast food. :)

  • Justin M.

Best mozzarella sticks on the planet, been eating here for 20 years and is still one of my favorite hot dogs and gyros in the city!

Love the gyros and curly fries. Great milk shakes. Fast, friendly service. My favorite place for take-out.

  • Diamond M.

I had the Gyro Plate last night and it was PHENOMENAL!!! FIRST off and most importantly, the lamb is Kronos (if you know only one thing about gyros, know that Kronos is the leading supplier of premium gyros in the USA) which I definitely prefer but don't always expect. SECOND, the pita was perfect...soft in the middle, crispy on the outside, and not oily. THEN their HOMEMADE Tzatziki sauce is really, really good and I'll even say...second to none! Lastly, all the "extras" like the rice, tomatos, and grilled onions were fresh and delicious. Lastly, this place has super friendly customer service and a VERY generously priced menu (too generous if you ask me-esp for being in Niles)...I put them in my top two and will be a lifetime customer.

By far the best gyro in the Chicago area!!

I've only had the francheezee and gyro here but both have been great! The lady at the front is always very friendly and the prices are reasonable.

Fantastic fast food (get the cheese fries) and the warmest/friendliest family owned joint in town. Been coming here since I wad a kid. It was out "peach pit". Say hi to Nick and friends for me...

This is a classy, family-owned restaurant with great gyros, burgers, Polish and pepper & egg sandwiches. Usually crowded around lunchtime. They have daily specials. Their perch dinner and steak sandwiches are the best! I also like the curly fries and fried zucchini slices. I've been coming here 15+ years and it's a good place to bring kids too. Lots of families come here on weekends after sports with the kids still in baseball or soccer attire. Drop in your business card in the fishtank and you can win a free meal too. After a few visits, you get to know Nick and Pam, the co-owners. Placing an order or picking up makes you a "buddy" right away though. I came here a while ago with just my 2 kids: a one-year old and a four year-old. They had the courtesy to bring the food to my table since they didn't want me to leave the kids unattended at the table. They even checked if I needed anything during the meal, though this is not a full-service restaurant. That makes a big statement about their level of service and will most certainly assure that I will keep coming back here. Every Saturday around noon, there's usually anywhere from 6 to a dozen ham radio guys who gather round for lunch and a nice long and loud session of Geek-speak for at least an hour. They are as much part of the Papa Chris ambience as the people behind the counter. Only downside is they are closed on Sundays.

  • B L.

Oh Papa Chris'! You're getting 4 stars from me just for the cheese fries alone! Those are soooooo good! This place was the hot spot when we were in 5th grade. It was a big deal when someone went on a DATE to Papa Chris'! Seriously! So, what to try? Cheese fries are delicious, I said that already, but it bears repeating. I hate it when cheese fries are bad, and these are very good. Hot dogs are standard good hot dogs I guess. Nothing to write home about, so that's where they lost my coveted last star. If I was in the area and jonesing for those cheese fries I'd go, but I would probably not make a special trip out there if you know what I mean.

    (4)
  • Erick R.

I live right around the corner and have been coming here for 12 years. The place is clean and friendly. The food is delicious. They have daily specials which are very good prices with an entree and fries.

    (5)
  • Ju L.

Came here for Kronos' "free gyro day" promotion a few days ago. Ordered nothing else. And let me just say: BEST GYRO I HAVE EVER HAD. So unexpectedly delicious, especially since gyros are so easily made sucky. Juicy flavorful meat, crispy toasted pita, perfect proportion of ingredients! When the remaining people on line had to be turned away due to supplies running out, someone asked after a chicken gyro. The owner flatly (but not meanly) said, "I never do chicken gyros." Hardcore.

    (5)
  • Lucy E.

5 stars just because the curly fries are AMAZING!!! Burgers are pretty average. Grilled chicken sandwich is pretty good, and i think that's all i've tried there... But all I've gotta say is CURLY FRIES!!! YUMMMY!!!

  • B O.

You would be hard pressed to find a place that treats you any nicer than they do at Papa Chris' and the food is delicious.

  • Paul V.

This place is amazing on so many different levels. The service from Nick is always personal and friendly. Many reviews for this place have already talked about how great the food is, etc.. But what I wanted to comment on is just how darn clean the place is. Really. The place is so clean I was automatically thinking of the old adage, "so clean you can eat off the floors..." My wife and I were done with an exhausting and stressful night of running errands with our two kids and were really hungry. So we stepped in and were so glad we did. We will definitely be back.

    (5)
  • Evan E.

Yet another spot where my customers wish to go quite a bit. Pretty much everything on their menu is fantastic. More often than not, Papa Chris himself or his wife is taking your order. They are very friendly and its really refreshing to buy from a family establishment that also serves great fast food. Papa Chris' Place is another Chicagoland staple. You can get all of the Chicago favorites. For one reason or another, I find myself getting a Gyro everything almost every time. Their Gyro is Kronos but something in the way they make it turns out to be one of my favorites in the entire Chicagoland area. Add Cheese Fries to that and you are on cloud 9. Don't forget, although you dont fill your own soda, they will refill it for you if you bring it up!

  • Gerry X.

Very Good food, Nick and his family are awesome and the fact he knows everyone who comes in there is a testament on how good the food and service is, and he also supports the local community of little leagues Greek Chicken and milkshakes are the bomb.

Best gyros in town. Plus great fries and shakes. Nick and the family are awesome, and know my whole family (and basically everyone). I love Papa Chris'.

My parents have lived in Edgebrook since I was 2 years old. I now live in the south loop and always find myself back at Papa Chris' Place everytime im back visiting them! This was the neighborhood hangout since i was in gradeschool in the area, and I still meet some of my old friends here for a bite to eat! I suggest the gyros and italian beef (both the best i have ever had) the cheese fries and home- made soups are also amazing! try a milkshake or scoop of their mint chocolate chip ice cream for dessert! My mom is a huge fan of the rice pudding as well. Not even comparible to your average "greek-dive", a thousand times better! highly recommended!

  • Andrew H.

I appreciate the family run business. I do. But they do NOT have the "BEST GYROS IN TOWN." In fact, they don't have even have good gyros. Now maybe it was an off day, but my gyro had about 2 lbs of dry, cold gyro meat, with a mound of uncooked white onions and some of the most bland tzaziki sauce my tastebuds have ever experienced. Crinkle cut- ie, frozen french fries were served completely unseasoned. I was thoroughly disappointed after reading all these glowing reviews....and I promise you can find much better gyros elsewhere.

    (1)
  • Elizabeth S.

I love coming to this place. Very clean & the workers are so sweet. The food is absolutely amazing. I always get the gyros with fries & a coke. I've had the cheese fries & the seasoned fries both good but I like the seasoned fries more. The gyros are the really tasteful & well stacked with meat! They give refills on drinks, thats always a plus. I can eat this place everyday. Wish they had one in the suburbs.

Figured I'd update my review. This is still a decent option for "charred" foods. Typical char-type restaurant with a few Greek options often found at places like these. Stuff like, gyros, Saganaki, kebabs, Baklava as well as typical American fast food favorites as in cheeseburgers, BLT's, hot dogs and a lot of fried items. They often offer a special combo of the day and it's priced just above $ 5 dollars, which comes with a side and drink. These days, prices like these for a decent meal are hard to come-by. Since it's Lent season, figured I'd stop in for a lunch of a fried fish sandwich and side salad. The weekday afternoon was busy with repeat customers that are often referred to by name. A nice perk to being a "repeat." The shop is never busy, it's comfortable and approachable whether you're dining solo or wanting to be joined by a few. The place, although dated, was clean and comfortable enough for enjoying the time spent. If you dig typical fast food, you'll get your moneys worth. But these days with more "local" food restaurants offering "made-from-fresh" items (i.e. hand cut fries as opposed to frozen), it's kind of dinosaur in a modern world. A place for the "Joes" to grab a convenient meal.

  • Tal R.

Im not going to lie, I have only has the Gyro plate here but it is hands down the best Gyro in the area. for around $8 you get enough meat to feed 2 people. Their Tzaziki sauce is around average but what the sauce lacks the gyro meat makes up for. I have never been disappointed with a gyro at this place

I expected more from the hot dogs.

One of my parent's favorite family owned places. I absolutely love this place for cheap fast food. Cheese fries are one of the best!! Pizza pocket, chicken sandwiches and mushrooms are what I usually get! Not all at the same time, of course! Their chicken and wild rice cream soup is so yummy!

  • Gabriel A.

I think I still come back to this place just for their amazing cheese fries.

This place has been around for a long time I drive past it while I'm out working all the time but stopped in for lunch for the first time today. Had a gyros and it is every bit as good as twin on Harlem. Maybe even a little better I hate to say it. Absolutely delicious cooked perfectly just the right amount of onions tomato and cucumber sauce. I wish I had stopped in years earlier but will stop in for lunch every time I'm in the area now!

  • George B.

One of the best hot dog places in the Chicagoland area. The food is very good and reasonably priced. While I like Portillo's, I would say that this family owned restaurant is as good, if not better. I have never been disappointed here, nor have I ever left hungry.

    (5)
  • Chris W.

Good burger, average fries (and cheese fries), oh and look! They have pop...so. I wish there were more to say about this place. Honestly it's not a bad place to stop by and have a bite to eat, it's got average prices for independent burger joints in the area. However, there's nothing out of the ordinary YEAH or BOO about this place, it's just...a place. In fact, it's Papa Chris Place.

    (2)
  • Justin L.

I really do like Papa Chris'. Such a friendly family owned grease spoon joint. Although I have long moved from the neighborhood and only rarely stop in for a quick to go order, they still remember me by name. Always waiting for my order we get to talking about life and updating each other on what is new. He really cares about his customers. That is the sole reason to come back time and again to Papa Chris'. The food will not knock your socks off but the service with a smile will. For a grease spoon to care about every person I see walk through their doors. It really is nice from the disconnected and often disinterested service you get at many other places. Food wise, you will find your typical Greek greasy spoon items. I do however recommend getting the chicken wing dinner. It is one of the stand out favorites I have. I know there are many options for food like this but to quote the Cheers' theme song, "you wanna go where everybody knows ur name...."

  • Tom Z.

Great family owned restaurant! The family makes you feel at home and will be sure to call you by your name. You need to try this place. It also is in a nice location right across the street from the Leaning Tower in Niles. Everything I have ordered from here has tasted great. One of the best Gyros sandwiches in the area.

    (5)
  • Louis C.

Ordered hot dogs, gyros and fries. The food was just awful. The gyros meat was greasy and flavorless. The hot dogs were boiled beyond recognition and rubbery. Disappointing that such fast food staples were below par.

You can skip Portillo's line and get your butt here! Great Stan Polish! and other foods! Great family business! Down to earth and just good ol' chicago feel.

I grew up eating here and Nick has seen me grow up. I can't say anything bad about the place, it isn't trying to be anything it isn't. If you're looking for lunch and you're in the area, stop by and have a gyro.

Well balanced Gyros, great cheese fries. The place gives off a great. comfortable neighborhood vibe.
