This is a well put together, genuine hot dog place! Great interior decor, friendly, clean staff....The food is very good for the basics...Prices are reasonable. This is a 5 star dog house!

They sell hotdogs. The hot dogs are good. They also sell Green River. Green River is awesome.

SCREW ODGE AND HIS SECOND RATE HOT DOG STAND. I went at 6:49 on Wed May 13th (They close at 700) and they had locked the doors. I would understand if there was no one in there ordering or eating but there were MULTIPLE customers in the store. If you are going to close early with no regard, why even post hours? I'm sorry but I will NEVER GO THERE AGAIN!

I'm surprised this place is holding up so well with Phil's Last Stand right down the street. It's about a dollar more for everything than Phil's and the quality is worse. They do have a more broad menu including beef sandwiches, fish sandwiches, and a few other items but I have lived a block away for over a year and could never get here before they closed as the hours are horrible! Closed on Sunday, and they close at 7pm on a weeknight. I'm not even home from work by then most nights. I've eaten Odges over the years and I've finally decided, I'm Phil's loyal from now on.

For a beef and hot dog place, this place is excellent. The fries are always good and hot. I like the Chi memorabilia on the walls when I am eating in. Prices are right too! My only qualm is that the are not open much later then dinner and closed on Sunday. Solid place for a quality beef or dog.

Despite there being a bazillion places to eat in Chicago, and it's been heard that you could eat at a different place for every meal, we've been here 4x in 5months. We've had chili, cheeseburger, bacon hamburger, chicken nuggets, the fries, the cake..all yummy! Super yummy fries, and their kids meal was 5 chicken nuggets w/dipping sauce, big serving of fries, a twinkie (the golden yellow kind), and a juice box, for $3.19. It was really good-not like McD's icky nuggets! That's an awesome price! I ate it as an adult meal, because I wasn't that hungry for a fullblown burger/hotdog. Cash ONLY. Parking is street parking in front. Homemade HUGE pieces of chocolate cake. Specials every day. Very good prices. I've seen the owner every time I go in there. Next I'd love to try the root beer floats/shakes. Yay! I'm a fan!

For a mere $2.95 you get a dog with "everything" (onions, peppers, relish, mustard, and a pickle) and fries. With a Coke my meal still under $6, not bad in a recession. The dog was tasty, though the bun was of the dough-y super soft variety. Maybe you're into that, but I prefer a more hearty bread. The small seating area was quaint with some antiques for decor. Definitely seems like this place has been around for a long time. No real complaints.

It's hard for me to review this place objectively. I used to live on Damen & Huron, just a few steps away and I used to go there all the time. Had cheeseburgers, hotdogs, beefs, most of their menu. Since you're right at the counter when you order you can always request it how you want it, easy and done. Believe me, none of it's good for you though... greasy and fatty; if you live nearby beware of going too much because of speed and convenience. So here's my "beef"... I was a regular there for nearly two years. I knew the workers and they knew me. One day I ran up about 30 minutes before closing. The door's locked, I knock and see Odge inside. I open my hands wondering what the deal was, and he hand gestured "we're closed" (even though they should have still been open) yet I see two cops sitting inside and stuffing their faces with food. I lost respect for that place and never went back. That's not how you treat a loyal customer.

My favorite cheap hot dog place. I always get the chili dog and fries and my boyfriend gets a Chicago dog, usually for less than $10 total. The chili seems to be homemade - definitely not a Detroit Coney, lots of beans. Free refills on the Diet Coke (much appreciated) and quick service. There's usually a police officer of two having lunch, and Odge is usually sitting in the back as well. Only complaint is they're closed on Sundays.

I've been in bed sick the past two days and nothing could get me out of the warm, comforting confines of my pillowtop until I woke up and craved Odges. I was out the door in five minutes, and here I sit with a beautiful cheeseburger, fries, and fresh root beer. I am miraculously cured. You'll find Odges by the crazy yellow outer walls with cheesy murals of hotdogs and burgers painted on. GO inside and take a big whiff! Yum!! The burgers are handmade EVERY DAY. If you love a burger you'll love an Odge. I usually get the hotdogs-- what can I say, i love a good chicago dog and this is the place to get it! Free fries with every hotdog/burger, and its a good handful at that. One of the few places to offer Berghoff rootbeer on tap (!!!!!) so definitely grab a big old root beer, or a float if you're feeling icecreamy. This place pleases me so much. So glad its around the corner! Ps. They have funny hours. Sometimes I walk by expecting to say hi to the person I assume is Odge to see that they are closed for some reason. Maybe they have weird hours.. I never bothered to find out, but they are always...99% of the time... open for dinner time. Cash only.

Odges is the Sh!t. 60 Second walk from work, and a grease food haven. One of my complaints is the hotdog offerings that get the hamburger dill treatment and no tomatoes. No spices are shaked on the dog as well. The polish is standard chicago, and comfort food. Best item for me. The double cheesburger shines like platinum, which is a good thing when it comes to this kinda of fare. The fries are what everyone is raving about in previous reviews, and they are really that good. Odges gets 3 stars cause they skimp on the ingredients for dogs. I get better dogs exiting the Home Depot on North ave.

  • Lauren S.

If you want a good beef, hamburger, hot dog or fries, this is your place. Get the cheese sauce for the fries, so good. Amazingly cheap prices. Would give 5 stars if they had malts. Only shakes. Just get some malt powder, guys!

  • Brian A.

I have been going to Odge's ever since I moved to Wicker Park. Even though I can walk to Underdog (which sucks balls btw), I will take the trip to Odge's when in the mood for a Dog or Italian Beef. Fries are included in the price with almost everything, and are tasty.

hot damn. best italian beef i've had in chicago! this definitely beats al's. i'd have to try mr. beef again to be certain. nice small joint, eclectic collection of vintage knickknacks, really friendly staff. shakes are decent too. good show!

Those wonderfully crispy fries get five stars right off the bat. But - when I state I'm vegetarian and ask about your tamales - DO NOT tell me they're ALL corn when they're not! I get home, unwrap them and notice 'brown stuff' in the middle of the tamale. The ingredient list is on the wrapper and the 3rd ingredient is 'beef shortening'! The cats liked 'em, but I wanted more for dinner than an awesome order of fries, OK?

  • Nate W.

Get the Chili dog if you go here. I haven't eaten much of anything else other than the chili dog. I have to give it 4 stars because it is so much better than any of the other fast food chain eating options in the neighborhood. However, I tried the regular hot dog with everything once, but they didn't adhere to "Chicago style" hot dog guidelines-which most places rarely do and to me makes all the difference whether I go there for hot dogs specifically-but I go here for the Chili Dog when my heart feels like it needs the work out. Support your local Chili Dog.

This is the best U.Village hotdog/burger joint by far. Daily specials, the fries are killing and they come with everything, the double cheeseburger is ridiculous, and the Chicago dogs are exactly how they need to be. Funny atmosphere, quick kitchen, and reasonable prices makes this place a good find.

Love the kitschy interior with the cool signage and the hot dogs, fries and prices are delish!! Cheese tastes like that from Portillo's - definitely a great option for fans of the old Peppe's ...

As a vegetarian I definitely don't frequent places like this. But their french fries are super yummy, and for $1.55 you get an enormous serving. French Fries

Odge's has some delicious hot dogs. Chicago style at it's finest. The service is largely incompetent and they seem to be oblivious to their surroundings, but the food is good. For example, they didn't have any bottled water, which we had paid for already. They were completely unaware. I thought, you know what, not a big deal, it happens. Then we asked for napkins, which they were again, out of. So now I'm eating a chicago style frank with mustard and pepper juices all over my hands and held completely hostage. Not good man. Anyways, like I said, the hot dogs are top notch and the fries are really nice and crispy. Loved them. As a final note, if you buy four dogs, you get the fifth free which is pretty gnarly. Check this place out if you're in the area.

This spot is tiny, and I'd guess that there are a ton of places like it in Chicago. Nevertheless, the dogs are amazing, cheap, and convenient. If you're a newcomer to Chicago style hot dogs, you'd do very well to make Odge's your first.

  • Brad G.

I've tried almost every burger place in the city and truly think this place has the best burgers in the city. You can't beat a fresh meat & hand pack burgers! The bun to meat ratio is perfect. Please don't ever change a thing!

I've lived in Chicago for about 2 years now and I'm still relatively new to the Chicago style Hot dog game. Portillos introduced me to the Chicago hot dog and Odge's made me fall in love. I was actually headed to Stan's donuts and stopped at a light when I saw Odge's out of the corner of my eye, "buy 4 hot dogs get 1 free." I was with a group of 4 other people so we decided why the hell not and pulled over and walked in. We got the Chicago style hotdogs and French fries as a sort of pre donuts appetizer. The hotdogs themselves came with onions, mustard, peppers, a pickle and perhaps a tomato (I forgot but I'm leaning towards no tomato.) The peppers were actually pretty hot and that just made the hotdog more enjoyable than it already was. What a treat. The French fries were also top notch. Real crispy and not a hint of old oil. The restaurant itself is just a tiny little room with a couple benches in it and covered in nostalgia. Odge's is a really nice, low-key hotdog joint that I recommend whole heartedly stopping by if you're ever in the area. No AC in the summer just adds to the experience (if you don't get the appeal of eating fries and hotdog while sweating into your soda, I'm not sure if I like you.)

  • William T.

The old man who owned this joint with his family passed away a while back, wanted to say the dogs are as good as ever and the place has not lost much of it's charm. It is an absolutely solid place to get a dog or burger and they are done to perfection. The nearby and seemingly more popular Fatso's is just way more inconsistent and not nearly as clean. This place is still immaculate for a hot dog stand and has near perfect dogs and fries and a burger that is better than the fatso.

I was excited to try their burgers and fries - should have saved my money and gotten double cheeseburgers from McDonalds instead!

The burger was good just a little soggy on the bottom. Fries were good, i will try the steak sandwich next time. But for burgers, I think Fatsos wins.

Odges is right around the corner from me so the greasy aroma lured me in one night walking to my apt. I don't know if I was just super famished, but the fries were good! The jumbo hotdog that I ordered was okay. All orders come with fries and the prices are decent. They have pretty good specials listed for each day. I don 't know if I'd come back anytime soon though - I can't stand leaving a place smelling like a deep fryer. I was only inside this place for 5 min, but the next morning on the bus to work, my coat still reeked of deep fried oil and onion rings. Word of advice: unless you're doing laundry after, do not wear your favorite items of clothing if you plan to come here.

got sucked into this place when i was driving to another burger joint because of the colorfull painting on the walls and signs on odge's... haha... anyways i ordered the italian beef and fries... the italian beef was just alright.. nothing really special about it at all... the fries tho i must say was pretty good and i enjoyed it.. maybe next time ill try their cheeseburger when im around.

Fries. These fries are it. You can barely find fries these good anywhere anymore! I grew up in Chicago and spent my whole life here; growing up this is what fries tasted like in mom n pop hot dog n burger stands... Nowadays you can't find em anymore. Except at Odge's. If you want a taste of real old school Chicago fries this is it. Oh and BTW, the Italian beef samiches are kickin

I've been going here for years every since there was ketchup in a cup served with your fries. Went there this afternoon and it was great. Order cheeseburgers, wanted a chicken sandwich they did not have so I substituted for the fish with cheese fried hard. Worker was good enough to give me a slice of chocolate cake because he knew I was disappointed, I really wanted the chicken. The cake was so so so good did I write enough so's? Go get you a burger and fries that everyone loves, please get a slice of cake always make sure there's 1 left in the fridge never know when I will pop up over there!

I grew up in the area and I have nothing but great memories with this place. I know live in Berwyn and doesn't stop me from coming here often for my hot dog/fries fix. The food is delicious!! The fries are always fresh/HOT when you order and the staff are always friendly... Everything on the menu is a must try. I'm glad this place is still around. : )

I dig this place, it's good Chicago style burgers n dogs...fries are left to be desired as far as seasoning but win some lose some...be sure to bring cash as they don't take cards, however they do have an ATM in the back so all is not lost... Good staff and quick service, if you're hungry and in UK village drop'm some business, you won't regret it.

I like Odge's. It's near my house and their food is legit. Pretty darn good beef sando, good hot dogs, and good burgers. This place is borderline divey - so don't plan on a luxurious in-dining experience .. It's these places that make the world of fast food go round .. Thank you for being you odges! I only wish they were open a little later .. I would probably hit them up more often but they close at like 7pm or something

In the scope of all fast food joints in Chi, it's alright. Standard hot dogs, burgers and fried pizza puffs. Not terrible by all means, just ok. Cash only, no bills over $20. Places like these dotted the inner city landscape in the 60's and 70's before all the hot-shot breakfast spots and burger bars of today. Did you know a Chicago burger is similar to the Chicago Hot Dog? No ketchup, mustard, pickles or relish, onions. That's it.

    (3)
  • Frank Q.

This is definitively a low key real Chicago hot dog spot. They're still cranking out hot dogs in natural casings. Cheap prices and great food is why. Nothing fancy here so cash only. Hot dogs, daily homemade burgers and chili, crispy fries, tamales and other food/drinks.

    (5)
  • Julie A.

I really enjoy, and usually take for granted Odges. It is a perfect hot dog within a couple of blocks of me that I always forget about! Now, in no way am I saying that this is a MIND BLOWING hot dog or anything, but you know when you are craving a good hot dog, this one hits the spot. The best part about Odge's is that you get fries with every hot dog - no choice here. It can be overwhelming when you buy 4 and get 1 free, and you have 5 bags of fries. I've never seen anyone finish them all.

Its that curious "classic red hot" joint on Damen, just south of Chicago, with the all-red wall. It never really registered as a spot I might really love to try until my brother and a friend mentioned going there for lunch the other day. First thing they mentioned? ... Fries are MANDATORY. With almost everything (except tacos). Ha! So, armed with that knowledge, I decided to stop in today for a Cheeseburger (fries mandatory) on my way back from a morning meeting. Damn it was good! Griddled onions (drool), melty american cheese, standard grease joint beef patty, toasted buns and all the regular fixins. Lightly salted (mandatory) fries. It was all delicious. And a steal too! Whole shebang = $4.95. Odge's is Owesome. Check it out.

The mural on the outside of the building says a lot - looks like a carnival ride for your stomach - the main reason I came in. Once I walked inside I saw sights that I never would have imagined. Vintage toys, an old 1950s coke machine, a metal lunchbox and thermos like the one I took to school in 1st grade! and a PHONE BOOTH. They've got a definite style at Odge's...I just can't seem to pinpoint it. Some quick facts about Odge's - No bills over $20 - Buy 4 Cheeseburgers or hot dogs, get one free - Cakes and pies available in the cooler by the front counter - Ice cream and pudding cups also available - All treats look home made - I did not get confirmation on this. - Real stand up guys working behind the counter - All orders MUST come with fries.....I'm still theorizing the reasoning behind this rule. I had a 1/2 pound burger (with fries....hella fries) and added bacon for like 0.50 - it's so worth all future cardiovascular issues. Juicy burger, fresh tomato and lettuce, crisp bacon. Just all around Gangsta. -1 star for "Cash only", ugh, unacceptable. -1 star for keeping the most bizarre hours of any place I've ever been to. Close during dinner time? Closed on a Saturday? I don't get it. If you have a chance to visit and can work around their random hours, you'll enjoy it. Check out the pictures too!

This small, family-run place offers your basic fast-food lunch. Hot dogs, Polish sausages, cheeseburgers, Italian beef, and fries. I used to live around the corner from Odges, which was really convenient when I needed my Chicago-style hot dog fix. Plenty of cops go to Odges, which is usually a good sign. And it's so much better than the other options in that area (McDonald's, Subway). Check it out the next time you're in Ukrainian Village.

Gotta say - this might be the best italian beef I've had in Chicago. Bring 7 bucks and you'll get a nicely sized one with an order of fries (which are delicious). Food is one of the best in the city for what it is, but my only gripes are that the hours are totally screwy and the fact that it's cash only. Inconvenience, c'mon now. All in all - great place, definitely go there for some great quality feel good food.

  • Dale B.

It's all good here. The food, the people, the charming interior - the worn counter tops exude authenticity. The fries are so good, plentiful, and fresh. Every time I forget they come with just about everything on the menu and when they arrive I tell myself I'll just have half of them, then I get to chatting with the guys that work there and I look down and they're all gone. Try the chili on a cold day or whatever is on special... Specify they way you want your dog because they don't "drag it through the garden" by default. If you get here and they're open, you've just won the Odge's lottery. Have a backup plan. Pilo and Eddie, the Bert and Ernie of Odge's, like to close early to go work-out or spray-paint profanity on things. (kidding)

  • Ken K.

Great chili dog, their chili has a unique flavorful taste to it, hard to describe, just try it. Rest of the menu is your standard Chicago hot dog joint fare.....fries are tasty, you can taste the oil in each bite, not sure if that's a good or bad thing, but for me, a good thing. And don't forget to get a cup of cheese........to go with your fries and chili dog.

Old lunch boxes on the shelf. Three stooges pictures and just my childhood on the walls. Food Is basic neighborhood stuff and good also. Been going there for years and still the same good Burger and fries. Don't forget the huge tip jar at the counter.

    (4)
  • Len W.

Good dogs, and fries included. I should ask if they have a 2 dogs/1 fry special. They serve a shake, too, but I've never had it. Good parking right out front. Hit your flashers and run in. Buns are seedless.

  • Brian T.

I would normally give a place like this a 4. Food is good but not excellent. they get the 5 stars for service. I go in maybe once a month and the old man Odge remembers me everytime. My food is always consistent and good. Any time I have a hankering for a burger I come here. Its cheaper than the other burger place in the neighborhood and all sanwiches comes with fries. Odges wife makes the desserts and they are alse very delicous.

I'm a hot dog snob, I'll admit it - but Odge's are some of the best in my area and they should be proud. Very proud. I stood behind the little counter and ordered my hot dogs, which I didn't realize already came with fries. Being a Gene and Jude's fanatic, I almost peed my pants when I saw them carefully placing my french fries right on top of my little red hot...So when I ordered two hot dogs, I realized that I was getting two sets of fries. They asked me if I wanted everything on the dogs, to which I said yes...After paying, I walked out with my little white bag in hand to go home and savor the flavor - or so I hoped. "Everything on it" means mustard, relish, onion and a pickle - almost perfect for me. There are no poppy seeds on the bun - great if you don't want anything stuck in your teeth for the rest of the day. They don't offer sport peppers, which was a negative...And no ketchup and tomatoes were a positive in my book. Heck, a true Chicago red hot shouldn't have those things anyways. The fries were delicious - perfectly crispy and salty as other reviewers have said. They're great with a little orange container of cheese, which I believe was fifty cents...And yes - this little girl ate both sets of fries with both hot dogs. So if you're in the area and you want a pretty cheap, quick bite to eat at any point - try it. You won't feel horribly fat when you're done eating it and so far, I haven't felt the need to run to the potty!

I've been on a hot dog kick the past week. First Duk's then Downtown Dogs and now Odge's. It is summertime and there is really no better time of the year to enjoy some dogs. Odge's catches my eye every time I'm in the area. It is brightly painted and just looks like a place you want to go in. I was happy to see bike parking right out front since I had biked over for lunch. The place is a lot bigger inside then I thought it would be. They have about eight booths for people to sit and eat at. The menu is pretty large, they don't just offer hot dogs and fries. They have Italian beef sandwiches, hamburgers, and tamales. I figured I needed to go with the classic hotdog and see what they have to offer. I ended up ordering the jumbo dog with everything and fries. Sadly everything wasn't traditional Chicago style, it only came with onions, peppers, relish, mustard, and a pickle. No hot peppers or tomatoes but whatever it was still good. The fries were similar to Duk's but nicely salted. For the price this is a great deal, my jumbo dog and fries were just under $4.00. There are not too many places you can get lunch for that price in the city. Odge's is a good choice for lunch and I see this place being pretty busy on the weekend.

I used to go here all the time, back in the hay day (YOU know...the day of hay! Duh!). They have really good hot dogs here. I mean really good. But that's not their claim to fame (my menu item of choice is documented in paragraph 3). I'd give this place 5 stars alone for my menu item of choice, but there used to be a dude who worked here who went out with one of my good friends from 8th grade, and he ended up being a total douche bag. That's bad customer service on some level, right? Hahah. They lose a star for that. And now...the moment you've been waiting for! The best menu item at Odge's...by far...is their cheese fries. So tasty. The cheese is wonderful and the fries are pure heaven. PURE heaven. 100% heaven. Did I mention they were heaven? Yaaaaah. *drools* These cheesy, oh-so-wrong-and-fattening fries will cure headaches, patch up potholes, win the next alderman election in your ward, AND still have time for high tea with the queen. Now THOSE are some amazing fries!

I love Odges my father and uncles grew up going there! I grew up in that neighborhood on Superior & Wood and went there frequently, and when everything around my old neighborhood has changed Odges remains the same and that is sooooo comforting to me everytime I go back home! My husband who is from New York (They had thier own Ideas about hot dogs) asks to go there! I heart a good Dog, cheese fries and a chocolate shake!

This evil (wonderful) place is just too damned close to my house. The lineup of Chicago's Finest to get in is a sure-fire clue that this is a good joint! Thier frest cut fries and really good.....oh, boy. The destination for a dog in the 'hood.

  • Jackie o P.

NOTHING compares to Hot Doug's. We all know this. However, if you are looking for a fast, delicious place to get your 'dog on, this will do just fine. Last time I was there I had a beautiful Polish with a generous serving of (incred) French fries. Another thing I love about this place is the onion ring and burger paintings on the side of the building. They always make me smile.

Feeling like a pig?? Need to soak up some liquor? Trot on down to Odge's. Great place for a good greasy polish and cheese fries! It's also a quick walk from my gig and a great way to walk off the pounds of a double cheeseburger special! Their fries are soft on the inside and crispy and salty on the outside...mmmm!!! Yes I agree w/Brian...being a Chicagoan I could use some celery salt on my dog but nonetheless...I make do. This place is so damn good I think I'll dine there tomorrow.

Decent fries, I guess (well-fried foodservice fries), but ordinary dogs. No char option for the dogs. That's a pity.

Awesome little food joint serving the typical street fair of dogs and polish dogs, but the star child of this menu are the fries. It doesn't matter which type of fries, but for some reason they're made of the same crack that's put into Krispy Kreme donuts where you just can't stop eating them. FREAKIN YUM.

This is pretty much as good as it gets if you're looking for this kind of fare. The menu is pretty small, but they've got something for everyone. Not big on hotdogs? No problem, they have burgers, chicken sandwich, polish & italian sausages, and an italian beef sandwich. In the mood for some mexican food? Try their steak taco and tamales. All their hotdogs and sandwiches come with fries and they are seriously yummy. Perfect texture and seasoning with just the right amount of grease. Dip them in the homemade chili and you're good to go. You get a lot of food here for just a small amount of money. Odge's is doing it right, and that's why they've been around in the same location for 33 years.

good food. i've eaten here many of times. i must agree, i think their fries are wonderful. cheese fries = even better. they have daily specials, and the fries come with every sandwich you order. you can get a hot dog, fries, and medium drink for less than 4 dollars, which is pretty sweet.
