Oh man, I was really hoping that I would find a local bakery I really like for all my crusty gluten needs. It turns out the artisan loaf I got was too hard and not enough chew. *sigh* The search continues for the perfect boulangerie.

I am a self-proclaimed coffee snob and I love this place. The staff is super friendly. They have delicious pastries and cakes!

Love their croissant sandwich but be warned, the sandwiches are very small for the price. We were still hungry and ordered a pizza which were fine for the price. Love the atmosphere and decor in this tiny little restaurant-- did felt like we were in Italy!

I've only had the turkey panani. Very good! Comes w/ chips. Around 7$. Crunchy, lettuce, tomato, cheese, some kind of sauce. Free parking on side st, pay meter parking on Irving Park.

The food is delicious! And coffee is even better. The staff is super friendly and courteous. I highly recommend La Pane pizza or the margherita pizza.

I am a snob when it comes to baked goods. This place has many decadent offerings. I had to try one of their eclairs. It was very moist and definitely not soggy. The coffee was freshly brewed and nice and HOT! My friend ordered one of their pizzas and I was able to have a taste. It was very flavorful. I will order one for myself next time I go there. The young lady that was assisting us was very friendly, professional, and on top of everything.

A cute little place really near me. I have never tried their baked goods, so this review is basically for the pizza. I ordered pizza to-go for me and friends and had a 16 inch La Pane and 16 inch Pepperoni. The La Pane (prosciutto, tomato, green pepper, mushroom) was pretty good but the Pepperoni was pretty plain. I was expecting something much more since people have been raving about it on yelp. Overall- it was just fine. I will go again because it is very convenient to where I live. But I'd never go out of my way to get it.

This place is very close to a five (5)-star quality; it's more than a neighborhood cafe, in my opinion. What a gem if you haven't given a try! The interior doesn't feel commercial at all; it's rather cozy and decorated with European flairs. They don't have much on the menu. In summary, they serve simpler-style coffee, croissants, panini, and pizza. They also have freshly-baked pastries in the refrigerator. I went with the prosciutto panini, and hubby had he veggie croissant. It took about ten (10) minutes for food because it was made-to-order. Just be patient, because they came out like a piece of art: it was one of the most well-crafted panini I've ever seen. To be honest, my last panini experience was at UW-Madison student cafeteria (my alma mater...proud graduate class of 2009). Thus, I was probably over-elated and realized panini could be so delicious! On the other hand, hubby's croissant was a bit tiny, but let me tell that pesto veggie filling inside of the croissant...it was refreshing, light, but energizing! He told me that he should have ordered the panini as well, since there was merely $1 difference. The family came after us ordered the cheese pizza, with a runny egg on top of it. That looked extremely appetizing and appeared to be worth a try next time. Yes, the regular coffee costs $2 and includes re-fills. I don't think this is meant to be a service-focused restaurant, but the baker lady rendered an outstanding service to her patrons. We walked about two (2) miles to come here. Don't freak out, vehicle-dependent Chicagoans. This is what we normally do on a regular basis. The point is that this place is really a hidden gem. I recommend you to check it out!

Very Very disappointed. I wanted to have a fantastic experience like all the reviews suggested. I walked in and waited at the counter for about five minutes before anyone came to the counter. I wanted to buy fresh bread, but unlike the menu suggested they only had 3 small baguettes on hand. It was a Sat afternoon, I would think they would have more selection. Oh well, at least I tried.

Finally got a chance to head over there for a quick lunch to take home. As soon as I walked in I knew I was going to like this place. Its simple, to the point, a cafe. The menu is not extensive, which I do appreciate. You can choose between a sandwich (croissant, baguette, several types of bread there ) or fresh hand made pizzas. I went with a prosciutto baguette, had to be done, and a small apple pastry. The sandwich was made fresh, it included a handful of chips and I was off to get home and taste. Delicious. The food is tasty, I must try the pizza. The service was terrific, I'm guessing the lady that worked there was the proprietor and was very friendly. I can't wait to go back. Do it!

Great little place. The Tuna Panini is amazing and I recommend trying that before anything else. Probably the best tuna sandwich I've had. The coffee is only $2 and free refills. Can't beat that.

Why have I walked by this place and never stopped in? It was my wife's birthday today, and I wanted to take her out for a quick lunch near the office she as at today, which just happened to be in our neighborhood. La Pane came up on my search as a place that was highly recommended, and I can now see why. We each had wonderful lunch baguettes sandwiches followed by three amazing dessert baked items all made in house. The woman who greeted us, the proprietor we assumed (she mentioned she made a number of the pastries and breads in the shop), was so sweet and so sincere. She guided us quickly to the menu items we might most be interested in, gave us a small treat of mini croissants to snack on while she scurried in back to make our sandwiches. The croissants were amazing. She delivered our sandwiches, a veggie baguette for Lynne, a prosciutto baguette for me. Mine tasted great, though I would have liked a little more prosciutto on the sandwich for a bit more of a hearty sandwich. That said, it was an incredible baguette, a wonderful sauce, and it tasted great. Lynne liked her veggie baguette sandwich very much. While we were there she made a pizza for another customer that looked amazing, and we are going to go back for some of those! After lunch we had to have a dessert, it was Lynne's birthday, and it was buy two, get one free. So we immediately got a shortbread cookie dipped in chocolate, drizzled with vanilla and a almond chocolate rum ball. Both were wonderful treats. What would be our third choice? We almost didn't see the almond cookies on the counter that our host pointed out, and am I glad she did. It may be the best almond cookie I have ever had. I am sorry mom, your almond cookies just got knocked into the #2 spot. These almond cookies melted in your mouth, they were exceedingly flavorful, I will stop here just to buy this in the future. Le Pane is a quint little place with four tables and a counter top around a large support column. You can take out or dine in, and I suggest you do either, and soon. The woman who owns/runs the place is the sweetest, most sincerely kind and gracious proprietor you will ever meet, and if you are like me, you will be glad you stopped into this neighborhood treat of a bakery / eatery. We need to patronize little jewels like this or lose them, and we don't want that to happen with La Pane.

My girlfriend and I ordered lunch and ordered the turkey panini but instead received prosciutto Panini's. They turned out to be very good! The owner was very apologetic For the mix up and let us keep the extra turkey panini and gave us some dessert as well! 5 stars. Great food and service

Wasnt a fan of the pizza at all. Crust had a cardboard like quality. Definitely was not typical pizza dough. Wasn't much sauce or cheese. Also wasn't a fan of sesame seeds all over crust. Would not go back for the pizza. Their sandwiches were tasty. Not very big and filling, but tasty none the less.

We've looked for good pizza in Chicago for a while. Did I mention we're thin crust pizza fans? No? Well we are, and we've had a hard time finding good thin crust pizza here. Enter La Pane. Let's keep this as simple as possible: You owe it to yourself to go here. Just do it. The pizza is wafer thin and crunchy (with a doughy outer ring); the toppings fresh; the sauce is sweetly appropriate. I couldn't stop eating it, just like a previous reviewer. THEN... THEN! the owner says "oh, your dinner comes with dessert." You're kidding me? Let me get this right, for $9 + tax I get a wonderful 12" pizza (it was enough for us both) in a cozily accoutre'd shop, plus a delicious pastry for dessert!? Get outta here... Maybe it was late and they had to get rid of their pastry stock for a fresh delivery the next day, I don't know. They serve sandwiches and breakfast stuff, bread, it all looked and sounded great. However, we came for the pizza, and we will ABSOLUTELY be back. They don't have a huge selection of pizzas, no gourmet bbq-ginger-sushi-wowie-Alinea type stuff, no. Margherita, pepperoni, a house special called the "La Pane", goat cheese, and maybe a couple others. We had the Margherita and took away a pepperoni. Finally, their delivery area is *huge*, up to Bryn Mawr down to Fullerton. I don't know how pizza this thin will stand up to delivery time for you, but I'm eating that pepperoni right now, and sure it's gotten a little floppy an hour after we took it away, but it's still quite delicious. La Pane, you have saved us from over-priced cradboard (yes, cradboard) pizza hell in Chicago, you have my eternal gratitude. PRAISE THE PIZZA GODS AND PASS ME A NAPKIN! Edit: OMG (is that allowed in 2011?), I just ate the chocolate chip cookie I purchased as an extra... moist, delicious, and unlike so many chocolate chip cookies, the cookie "strata" is not merely a vehicle for the chips, it was One Big Happy of a cookie.

This is the type of place where you nibble, sip & just enjoy what's in front of you on the table. Coffee...excellent. Croissant sandwich...delicious. The apple tart...Good Lord I want at least a dozen. Sandwich, dessert & coffee was about $10. It was so worth it. Great space, even though its tiny. Very limited seating & not set up for large parties to eat there, but it appears to have a pretty brisk pickup & delivery customer base. Next time.....pizza.

After a previous mediocre experience I was extremely pleased with my second experience. My first review was accurate for my experience at the time and received a very nice e-mail from the owner explaining that he would like a second chance. I had a friend come in town and we decided to try some of their pastries, cheese pie, and pastrami sandwich. All which were amazing! I am glad this place is ran by an owner who truly cares about the experience of the customer and the quality of the food. I will definitely be back and will refer to people in the future.

I've had my office on this bleak section of Irving Park for over 10 years and was absolutely giddy to see something like La Pane open near me. I am even giddier that it is fantastic and I want to preach to the heavens (or to people in the nearby 'hood) in order to keep it open. The $5 pizza is a steal, the baguettes are (can I say this without coming across as snotty?) some of the best I have had on this side of the Atlantic, the espresso is excellent, the mini-spinach and cheese rolls are another steal at $1.75 or something. Staff are uniformly nice and helpful. Please, Albany Parkers, forego the the cheap and chainy offerings of the Dunkin' Donuts or wherever, and keep La Pane rolling. It is a gem.

Their food is absolutely top notch! The sandwiches are perfect and their baked pastries are bloody awesome. I live nearby and visit often. My only qualm is the fact that they don't accept credit/debit cards. When paying for my tea and pecan plait, she told me they don't accept cards. I paid with card before but whatever. She said there's an ATM next door at Leader Bar. So I head over to use their ATM, knowing that I'll be paying a fee. The fee was 4 dollars. 4 DOLLARS??? Are you joking? I'll give a review on Leader Bar later. You've been warned Leader Bar... I walked over to Walgreens instead for the chase ATM. Mind you I did all this IN A SNOW STORM WITH 6 INCHES. I come back and see my tea cold. I asked her if she could perhaps give me another cup of tea. She used the same tea bag with fresh boiling water. Being a Brit, having been served stale tea was enough reason for me to write this review. Sorry for the rant guys, all in all the food is really good. Service, meh.

The food and coffee are great and cheap. My only complaint, which is a general consequence of eating out, is that my clothes smelled after only being in there for 20min for lunch. It's that smell that's not quite just coffee or food but a weird mixture of both. Not quite unpleasant but not pleasant.

Went here for lunch and had the prosciutto baguette. The baguette was awesome and the sandwich was made on the spot. I'll definitely be back and probably add another star after trying some pastries!

Delicious pizza! Arrived fast and reasonable price... I am looking forward to trying the sandwiches :-) the lady who took my order was very sweet! I will definitely order from the again soon. I also ordered a loaf of bread, can't wait to try it! Sesame seeds on a pizza crust pure genius!

I have only ever ordered the pizza from here but wow, it's fantastic. Definitely a "hidden gem" in the area. The service has been extremely friendly, even the delivery guy who had to come back twice because they forgot to include something in my order. I only wish I had known about this place sooner.

This place is awesome. We have tried their Panini's and baghete sandwiches and are really really good along with the strawberry danish. The prices are great and everything is made fresh and daily here. Yesterday the owner baked us on the spot danish and bread to make us sandwiches. Love the way the place is decorated inside.

I love this little spot. It is right by my house and the women that owns this place is super nice and helpful. You really get the european cafe feel and the food matches. The Tuna Panini is hands down the best tuna sandwhich I have ever eaten. The bread is fresh, the cheese is awesome, and the sauce they use is really unique (ajvar). No plain mayo here! I have tried a lot of the pastries and I have never been disappointed. I always leave happy :) give it a try.

La Pane is my little neighborhood secret for great bread and a little pastry snack. Since finding this place I have not hesitated to offer to be bread-boy for a friendly get-together. Crusty outside, light airy inside just like any good loaf should be. We've dropped in for a quick brunch of pastries as well and haven't been disappointed. All that is left if to try the pizza (which many other reviewers rave about) to get the full trifecta of La Pane experiences.

  • Ms. A A.

I was excited to try this place based on the reviews about their pizza but I doubt I'll be coming back. The crust was not housemade, the cheese was too waxy and overall, it was just a terrible pizza. After about an hour of eating two slices, I felt queasy. I have a strong stomach and usually only bad cheese makes my stomach hurt. 1 star for the eclair (which admittedly was not all that great. It was a bit stale) 1 star for the friendly service. Regardless of the food, I do appreciate that the lady who rang me up was honest about the cookies. She said they were not the freshest and didn't want me to be disappointed. I might go back for a cookie but I'll stay away from any sandwiches/pizza.

I just ordered a pizza from La Pane. It was delivered quickly and piping hot. I didn't know what to expect from the cute little bread place on the corner but wow was I impressed. The La Pane pizza was delicious and the crust was amazingly crispy. Not a traditional pizza with a thousand topping choices. It was more of a brick oven gourmet pizza at traditional pizza prices. Definitely the best pizza I have had in the area! I look forward to trying other menu items.

Love this place and love the owners. I may be giving a bit of a biased review right now because the owners (they're a young, married couple) are awesome. Whenever I go there I spend at least 15 minutes talking to Sandra, she's a total sweetheart. Anyway customer service is excellent, now let's talk food. I've only had the coffee, pretzel rolls, breadsticks, and some pastries, and let me tell you, they do not disappoint. The strawberry cheese danish thing is wonderful, the zuzu is delicious, the pretzel rolls are really fresh and the coffee is good. Overall, a great place to go to and use your laptop or catch up with some friends. I'll update once I try the paninis.

Delicious, unbelievably well priced pizzas (go for the margherita!). The sesame crust will make a believer even out of non-crust people (my boyfriend will only eat pizza crust if it is from La Pane). I have tried all their amazing sandwiches but my favorite will always be the prosciutto panini. The pastries are also a must!! Anything baked here is to die for. The owners are very friendly- Sandra is the sweetest and cutest! Definitely one of my favorite little hidden gems.

La Pane is a bakery that makes excellent pizzas. I had La Pane, which is prosciutto, green pepper and mushrooms. The crust is crispy, but still had a nice bit of chew to it. I also really loved the rich red sauce on the pepperoni pizza. I also took home a great crusty loaf of multigrain bread. There's nothing better than fresh baked bread. I can't wait to go back and try a baguette and a pretzel roll. Staff was also incredibly friendly and enthusiastic. I told the gal that they were getting great Yelp reviews. She said she was afraid to read what people said, but I think she'll be pleasantly surprised by how much people are raving about this place.

Stopped in last night, after passing this restaurant a million times and saying to ourselves we have to try it. No kids tonight, so it was just me and the hubby. Ordered the "La Pane" pizza. Prosuttio, mushrooms, green pepper and olive with tomato. The crust was REALLY good. Sesame seeds sprinkled on the edges. Perfect combination of crisy and chewy. No greasy cheese either. Really really good! Had a pretzel roll while waiting... yeah, ummm... I'll be stopping in regularly to purchase pretzel rolls. Had a shortbread cookie and an almond cookie for dessert. Both really good. I can't wait to go back and try the different breads. All their breads looks yummy as well as their pasteries. Everything baked fresh in their kitchen. For two of us, with drinks, pizza, and dessert, we spent $17. Not bad! Had LOTS of pizza to take home. Kids found our take out box, and tried the "veggie" pizza. We got raves about how good it was. Just ate the final two pieces for breakfast (yes, I'm a pizza for breakfast kinda girl) and I'm telling you, it was the same, if not better than last night.!! :) Definetly try this place! Not your usual pizza joint. You felt like you were walking into a French/Italian cafe, the decor is so quaint and the food is super delicious!

Went for the first time today. I cant even tell you how awesome the bread is! Im just thrilled to have something like this I can walk to. I was a little skeptical at first because of the limited items on the menu. Best tuna pannini i've had!! Its better to do a few things really well than it is to do a bunch mediocer. We took some bread home with us

Its a really nice cafe, good food. try La Pane pizza. but is definitely not good for groups. Its just like 4 tables of two. But really cozy, clean, and delish. Place is hard to find, since is small, so be in the look

This is a great little shop! The bread is delicious and the people working area always friendly. {I HIGHLY recommend the sundried tomato bread. Crazy good.} As others have noted, the $4.99 cheese pizza is a fantastic deal. My favorite is the Napoleon. If you stop in here for dessert I recommend checking it out. The napoleon is creamy and chocolately and quite delicious. We do not recommend the coffee or lattes here, however. You can get better coffee pretty much anywhere else.

Cute little place with delicious macaroons and fresh baked breads. I'm so happy to find a place that bakes breads and not just pastry. Yay. The mini macaroons were great but a little pricey at a buck each. The small bagettes were right from the oven and perfect- also a buck each. The owner was very welcoming and just as cute as her cafe. She said they may begin delivery soon. Also their block doesn't have a demon parking box yet so it's free to stop and run in.

Being our kitchen-challenged selves, we were put in charge of "bread" for New Years Eve dinner. If it's worth doing, it's worth doing well, right? Yeah, so we did bread really well. That sundried tomato loaf was glorious. Just the right amount of soft and chewy, with lots of flavor. No butter needed. As mentioned a gazillion (or 12) times before, the cheese pizza deal is no doubt a steal. We picked up a whole bunch for a party, wanting to feed our guests but not break the bank. We purposely ordered way more than we thought we needed because we love leftover pizza for breakfast. No leftovers though! When not feeding the masses, we like to venture into their more colorful pizzas. The Goat cheese and Artichoke and the Margherita are my favorites. Sesame seeds in the crust (just the "handle" part) add such unique texture and flavor. Sounds weird, but seriously yummy. Super thin, super fresh. If I'm capable of not getting too full on pizza, I hope to try the sweets one day.

What a cute little cafe tucked away in 60618! Margharetta Pizza for $4.99! They will make a pizza special, to order, as well, so we got chicken and veggies on ours. It was very good, crust was crispy and chewy, and dusted with sesame seeds. Free WI FI ! The Tiramisu Looks To Die For. Slovene Spoken Here!

I'll keep this short and sweet. This is the best thin crust pizza I have ever eaten. Best crust from a true baker. Heaps of real cheese and great sauce. I suspected this place would have amazing pizza, and I was right. ORDER THIS PIZZA! Woohoo! As good as it gets!

I LOVE this little bakery. Their bread is to die for!!! and it really isnt easy to earn that rating from me. I am what they call "bread snob". :) the pastry also rocks; fresh, baked daily. Sandra was as cute as they come. Very friendly, GREAT service. I am very happy that La Pane came to our area. Try the little "pita's"!!!! my fave is spinach! like nothing you ever tasted.

Amongst the sea of little Mexican food joints and situated near to this gigantic, overwhelming and Vegas like LED light bar sign is this cute little café called La Pane. We're so grateful to all you Yelpers who posted about this little gem in our hood. We hadn't a clue what we were missing out on. I just had to add a post about our experience because I really and truly want La Pane to stick around. First words when letting my significant other know that I wanted pizza from La Pane for dinner last night, "I don't really want pizza." And his last words as the eating commenced, "Oh, my god! I can't stop eating this pizza!" Actually, neither of us could. First off, the gentleman who helped us was absolutely delightful. I'm presuming he's one of the owners; he was very kind and attentive. When the BF and I walked in there was a wall of fresh baked breads, a few pastries, a couple of cakes and that was it but it was late! I thought that we missed out on dinner for the evening but was told, "Oh, no. We make everything FRESH for you." Ah, music to this little foodies ears. Not only is everything fresh but the ingredients are healthy too. We shared a pizza - since the BF agreed to go to my place that I picked out for dinner, he got to pick out the pizza. Of course we had to have the meatiest one on the menu and we also split a salad. The pizza was delicious and the salad - albeit simple - was amazing! We had the La Pane (pizza) with prosciutto and pepperoni (lots of veggies too). Simply scrumptious! I can't wait to go back for the Goat Cheese and Margarita Pizzas. Honestly, I would be happy with one of those delicious salads and some of the fresh bread too. As we were settling our tab and eyeballing the pastries that were left, we let the gentlemen who helped us know that we couldn't believe we hadn't discovered them sooner. He told us that they don't advertise. They market themselves strictly by word of mouth. I believe they have a niche in the Irving Park/Albany Neighborhoods and it's obvious that they want to remain good at what they do by not growing their business to quick or over doing it. As I mentioned the pastries were almost gone and it looked like they had a good day...I think what they're doing is working. Now those of us who live in the neighborhood need to do our part to keep La Pane around.

The employee behind the counter was very helpful in helping us figure out the selection, I was very excited about this place but I'm French but I was disappointed that there wasn't more "Frenchy" as far as food. The atmosphere is very cute and for that alone it expresses to me that the owner must be passionate which is why I will try this eatery again except possibly earlier when the food may be fresher. I had the tiramisu which I was so excited for and for $4 It was a very small piece and it wasn't very delicious, I get the same quality at Tony's Finer Foods for an entire cake for a few dollars more.

I've seen them there and finally decided to give them a shot for a pizza. It is more of an artisan pie, I had the La Pane. My take is the same as Theresa below. I loved it. I took my pizza to go and had a couple of slices. To my suprise I think I liked it even more cold! The sweetness of the tomato came out and it was fantastic. This is going to turn into a regular place for me.

Looking for a change in the typical pizza offerings around Irving Park, we just decided today to just stop in and see what this little place has to offer. The reviews about this place are very accurate. First thing that we noticed is the Mediterranean feel to the place. They have a limited menu, but why should a restaurant offer everything when they can just concentrate on making a few things real well. The aroma was of fresh bread and the entire back wall was lined with all types of fresh baked loaves. The place is extremely clean. But before we even ordered any food, what sold us immediately was the customer service. I assumed they were the owners, but what looked like a husband and wife serving us, we couldn't have asked for more kindness and bigger smiles. I was sold! We shared a healthy serving of salad that was fresh and you just have to love it when you can actually smell the olive oil. We ordered the margherita pizza, which was served before we can even finish our salad. We were sitting outside on their small outdoor patio and she actually apologized for taking long, but it was not long at all. I have never seen a pizza where the outside crust was a deep golden brown lightly sprinkled with sesame seeds. It was crispy while the rest of the crust was soft and thin, which is rare, but very tasty. The sauce was not too sweet or salty with just the right amount of fresh green basil, fresh roma tomatoes, and real freshly sliced mozzarella. For $8.99 for a 12 inch, it was a real deal. We also decided for a couple of chocolate brownies ($2.50/slice - the same price as Starbucks, but a little bit bigger). They also offer black forest, flan, and some other cakes and pasteries, all sold by the slice or even an entire cake. They also serve some sandwiches as well as a few other types of pizzas. They deliver, but I recommend getting a feel for the place and perhaps meet the owners. La Pane has very good food for the value as well as great service. We will be visiting this place often!

the good: good cannoli. good bread, good magazines (good thing they have magazines, because even if you are the only person there... you will wait. as one person does it all, usually). oh, and good honey. the difficult: it's always awkward in there. like they just set up shop. like it's a Junior Achievement project. you feel bad, as one person is nice (if pushy). another makes you feel like an intruder. terrible, terrible latte that i could not drink. mildew smell on a rainy day. does not bode well with food.

The bad news: they were out of bread when I got here at 7pm. The good news: they're baking me a loaf as I type this. I love having a place to get fresh bread in the neighborhood, and they have an amazing goat cheese pizza. Tiramisu is unusual (a hint of orange, which I enjoyed but my wife didn't). They were awesome about helping us put together a platter of sweets for a party on very short notice.

Most likely the best European style pizza in town. Oh, the goat cheese one... Also, the Maple Pecan Danish is to die for. Seriously.

I thought I had stumbled across a well hidden gem but I'm happy to see that La Pane already has a fan base on yelp. The bread here is fantastic! I am so happy to have discovered this brilliant little bakery! I have yet to try the pizza but I've had their soup and a spinach pie, both very inexpensive, and positively delicious! Everything tastes so fresh and light, it's easy to see that they only use high quality ingredients. Great addition to the neighborhood, I hope they make it!

Just stopped in here for some fresh bread and oh was it fresh, the whole grain I got was still hot and was amazingly good. I love pretzel bread so the fact that this place has it fresh automatically deserves three stars in my book and just the quality speaks for itself. Only got a few loafs of bread and they were all very good and all under $2.50 for the large. I will be going back to this place the pizza smelled so good and the menu of sandwiches was pretty decent as well! 4 stars I love bread!

Thank you, lord, for sending a cute, pleasant cafe to my neighborhood. We have no shortage of inexpensive and good Mexican, Thai, South American food plus some very good take out pizza places. But there was definitely a dearth of pleasant places to sit down, read, work on your laptop etc..if you didn't want to go to the usual chain coffee-shops. La Pane's pizzas are awesome! I love the Margareta, salad pizza (artichoke and goat cheese with baby greens and shaved parmesan) and the plain cheese - all super thin crust and fabulous. I've also tried the tuna and veggie paninis and they were also very good. My teenager can and has eaten an entire cheese pizza in one sitting. Oh, be sure to take home a loaf of the sundried tomato bread. Desserts! Yum. I've been bugging them about liquor license or BYOB option. The only thing that would make the pizzas even better would be if there was a glass of chianti with it.

The "no man's land" west of Western is starting to pick up a bit. It wasn't that long ago that I was in fact the only thing cool in these parts. The 'hood is changing regardless of the economy, that said I'm very pleased this place opened. The pizza for $5.00 is a great deal and the dough is pretty decent. I also picked up a pretzel baguette that was pretty good. Do yourself a favor and head to La Pane, it's pretty fantastic!

The service here was great, and we found them quite charming. We had the La Pane pizza which we really enjoyed. The crust is crisp and light and was a great change of pace. I love that I ate quite a lot of pizza but didn't feel the need for a nap afterward. While there I discovered that they make a breakfast pizza. I am obsessed with breakfast pizzas and can't wait to try it here. I truly think this place is worth a visit- being able to gawk at the bread and desserts is part of the decision making process. I will definitely get delivery from here as well though.

A friend and I came here right before closing to get a couple of pizzas. So I think the owners are from the Balkans but the place ostensibly is Italian, though the guy behind the counter said French, which kind of baffled me. Despite this national confusion, the pizzas were decent. They didn't seem to be traditional Neapolitan style, but there were in that vein and very good nonetheless. I had a friend who just spent 7 months traveling the world and the pizza here seems to be kind of similar to what you get in the Balkans. I had a margherita, which was excellent, though they put feta on it which kind of surprised me. We also had a La Pane pizza which is prosciutto and various vegetables. I think the toppings are loaded on a little too much; toppings should enhance but not overpower. However, it was still good, I mean we polished off the two pizzas easily. The prices aren't bad but aren't a steal either: $9 for the margherita and $11 for the La Pane (both 12 inches). They also put sesame seeds on the crust; never experienced that but I liked it. These are far from the best pizzas I've had, but they were certainly doable. The desserts were the outstanding items. Their tiramisu is delicate and isn't a soggy, soupy mess that is usually the downfall of most other tiramisus I've had. It was moist but not dry. We also tried this chocolate berry hazelnut cake. They guy there gave us this enormous slice for $4, and it's quite amazing. There are some interesting sandwiches on the menu that I'd like to try at some point. The guy there was really nice and friendly. The interior looks nice but I would cut down on the cheesy dramatic Italian music. They also had some great looking breads that I didn't try. All in all, this place is trying to make it and it should, it's a quality joint.

Last night we decided to try the La Pane pizza. It was really very good. We were worried it may not be enough for two people, but it was. Crispy crust and fresh veggies (but not over powered with any one ingredient). I am really not a fan of veggies on my pizza, but this one was great. I also got us a couple pretzle rolls. They are top notch quality. Get them fresh. Super soft and tasty. And of course when I saw they had maple pecan danish and strawberry cheese strudel I had to get those too. No brainer. My love affair with La Pane continues....

I am so enamored with La Pane that I'm at a loss for words... Where to start? I love the atmosphere. Cute cozy cafe that would not be out of place in France or Italy. Serves excellent espresso and delightful little pastries. Also serves Orangina! I love Orangina! Pizzas here are sooo good, we love the goat cheese pizza with artichoke hearts and greens. Really this place is just too cute. Give it a try.

La Pane is a cute, family friendly restaurant with good pizza, breads, and pastries. It's clean and has a sweet ambience. The pizza does not take long to cook so it was perfect for our kids. Our 4 year old is picky and loved the pizza right down to the sesame seed sprinkled crust. It's not a chewy crust but crispy and light and all the ingredients taste very fresh. The coffee is also good - we easily could have tried everything in the restaurant. The owner is so cute and sweet - not sure how someone looks so pretty and skinny when they're up early baking and around pastries all day. We can't wait to go back.

This is a great little cafe/pizzeria. The food is fantastic and the staff is extremely friendly. My family and I have tried almost all of the breads, the cheese pies, a good cross section of the cookies, brownies and pastries, 2 styles of their pizza, the prosciutto panini and the veggie baguette and have raved about them all. We love to use the pretzel rolls for sausages off the grill - one time I stopped by when they had just run out, but they offered to bake some up special for me "no problem". 10 minutes later I was struggling to make it home with the warm rolls intact. If I hadn't been warned to let them cool for 20 minutes before slicing them I don't think I would have made it. Next time that happens, I am ordering an extra one for the walk. This place is a real gem.

I think this bakery is a wonderful addition to the neighborhood. Their baked goods are very good but I think they need to offer a wider selection of cookies & maybe cupcakes and some breakfast offerings to bring me in more often.

Oh man, I was really hoping that I would find a local bakery I really like for all my crusty gluten needs. It turns out the artisan loaf I got was too hard and not enough chew. *sigh* The search continues for the perfect boulangerie.

  • Natalija S.

Love their croissant sandwich but be warned, the sandwiches are very small for the price. We were still hungry and ordered a pizza which were fine for the price. Love the atmosphere and decor in this tiny little restaurant-- did felt like we were in Italy!

Excellent bread and pastries. I only wish they opened earlier and had chocolate croissants. The multi-grain loaf is excellent toasted with a bit of honey.

Seriously.

This is going to turn into a regular place for me.

the good: good cannoli. good bread, good magazines (good thing they have magazines, because even if you are the only person there... you will wait. as one person does it all, usually). oh, and good honey. the difficult: it's always awkward in there. like they just set up shop. like it's a Junior Achievement project. you feel bad, as one person is nice (if pushy). another makes you feel like an intruder. terrible, terrible latte that i could not drink. mildew smell on a rainy day. does not bode well with food.
