This is not a Mexican-American place. This is the real deal with Spanish as the first language. We found this place a couple of years ago after being disappointed by El Barco and craving for something else than tacos & burritos. We were so happy to enter the door because the food was so great - a variety of meats and fish served with an abundance of beans, rice and salad; our favorites, filete empapelado, filete volcan, pechuga rellena - the pitcher of margarita so plentiful - no need for cocktails, wine or after-dinner drinks and the tortillas and chips all home made. Not a fancy place, the outside and the decor are far from impressive, but if you want good authentic food at a very reasonable price, this is the place to go.

Drooooool. What a great place. The servers even put up with my halting "learner" Spanish and are always very kind. The decor is very DIY, with a lot of colored acrylic and plaid tablecloths, but it's clear they spend on the good stuff - much more concerned with the quality of the food than the napkin holder! I have only been there for breakfast (and once for lunch), but so, sooo good. I like the tortillas - tasty, thick and just a little heavy. Fave breakfast is the Huevos Machacado. So darned good. And their coffee is really good, too!

This is my favorite restaurant in Chicago. They have the BEST Mexican Shrimp Cocktail and the Cecina Campesina is to die for! There is a parking lot and there are always tables available even though it always seems pretty busy. There are always cops dining there when we go. This is how you know a place serves good food! ALso, they serve beer in a frosted mug with lots of lime and salt. MMMMMMMM. They also make their own torillas and the salsa they bring with the chips is always still warm and fresh!!!

Yum...a little expensive for what they're serving, but the margaritas are outstanding and food-wise, everything I've tried has been good. They have a fairly extensive menu and the waiters, bartenders, etc. are very friendly and acommodating.

mmmmmmm. tasty. cheese enchiladas are good as HELL. i haven't been here in a while...even though it's like super close to the pad, i just have too many other mexican places closer. or maybe that's just how it seems in my mind...who knows...back to the topic at hand. BUT good food. yummy drinks. this isn't a romancey date place...it's filled with people who love and know mexican food! there's a juke box and it's (the restaurant, not the juke box) usually filled with a mix of families, neighborhood folks and cops (which is good...cops know good food). check it out! and be a man and get a pina colada....no one will judge you.

I have lived in the vicinity of this restaurant, binging on their veg tacos, every evening. The service is ok, chefs are faster, food is value for money & flavor. I am already missing their Tacos.

My husband and I just moved from Chicago and we miss La Condesa tremendously. STRONG margaritas, homemade corn tortillas, excellent shrimp dishes. When we lived in the neighborhood we went there once a week. Great great food and friendly staff.

If you are looking to get completely wasted on really good margaritas for dirt cheap, this is the place. I go here often for margs and guacamole (also pretty good!) The food totally sucks, but you can't beat a huge pitcher of margs for $15! Did I mention the margaritas?

Great Torta Milanesa, if you're around town and craving one. Didn't have a margarita but most of the patrons appeared to be enjoying them. There were two cop cars parked outside, and they were found inside enjoying the great food. Missed the 5-star because the chips were dry and the salsa mostly tasted like hot sauce.

Ah, La Condesa....Good memories. I used to work right around there and we'd head there for so-so Mexican food. A little pricey, but pretty good. Haven't been there in a while, so I hope it's still going! It used to draw a mostly Latino crowd, but who knows now...

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
