Straight up, Kitty O'Shea's is a hotel bar. It's located inside the Hilton on South Michigan Avenue. I ended up over here because my friend was staying at the Hilton for the Blackhawks Convention, which is, apparently, a huge deal. I mean, he got to hug the Stanley Cup for goodness sakes. Being around the touristy area farther up the road, I hadn't found a decent bar. Even my own hotel's bar, at the Wyndham Riverfront, wasn't all that lively. It must have been all the hockey people, you know my brethren, that did it. Kitty O'Shea's was a happenin' place with hockey fans, Blackhawks players, announcers, etc roaming about. It was the bar I needed and deserved. My friend had been there for a bit and had a spot saved for me upon my arrival. The beer selection was an appropriate mix of local and commercial beers, including Guinness and Magners. If you own an Irish pub and don't have those two drinks, in particular, available, you may want to contemplate the "Irish pub" thought. I, having not found a local beer that suited my taste by that point, went with the Bottom Up Wit from Revolution Brewery, which was the current seasonal selection available. I did not regret my choice and ended up having one more before I left. There was a great folk Irish duo playing throughout the night. They were excellent and pumped the atmosphere way up. They played "Blackbird" by The Beatles, but then seemingly changed the lyrics to "Blackhawks fly" to the delight of the die hard hockey fans in the room. The bartenders were as attentive as they could be with such a large crowd, and the menu looked pretty yummy. I kept debating the Corned Beef and Cabbage, but had already eaten. For a hotel bar, this was a pretty excellent one. If you find yourself wandering about South Michigan Avenue looking for a pint, I'd stop in here.

Some out-of-town friends were in town recently for the Mexico / Cuba soccer match at Soldier Field. Since they stayed at the Hilton and are partial to the sauce, I assumed there was a 100% chance that I'd have to devote one night to drinking in a hotel bar. And I was right. While I went into the evening dreading the assorted nonsense that hotel bars can present, it actually was a lot of fun. I went with the fish and chips (yep, I have not one original bone in my body) and was pleasantly surprised by the dish I was presented. Perfect amount of batter, fried golden brown, and very reasonably priced for the area. Fries are sort of hard to mangle but these ones were really delicious. Great meal. And Killian's on tap always sends my heart fluttering over the moon and my poor liver throwing its hands in the air and finding something to hide under.

Easy, no fuss place that offers Pub classics as well as modern healthy alternatives. Inside it looks like Irish Pub, outside like a modern cafe. Food is delicious! I ordered Pub Garden Salad and loved every little bite of it! Will be back for sure

Came in here for lunch on a Sunday because the first couple places we tried had long lines. Didn't really know anything about the place but it didn't have a line so we were sold. The lunch menu seemed pretty normal with your usual sandwiches, salads, burgers, etc. We also got to choose our seating so that was a plus. Our waitress was friendly, attentive & prompt & didn't seem to mind us sitting around & chatting for a bit after we'd paid the bill either.

Ate here during the Blackhawks convention. It was obviously crazy crowded by the staff handled it well and remained attentive. I enjoyed a delicious bacon, Irish cheddar burger and a green line. The burger was amazing! And obviously the green line was terrific as always. The fries were perfectly seasoned and not too soggy. I would definitely go back here if I was in the area. The fact that they can handle that many hungry and thirty Blackhawks fans running around in such a small area is impressive on its own.

We had the Fish and chips and the pulled pork. The fish was all white meat and good. The pulled pork was good, I didn't care for the slaw they put on it, I've had better. Our server was great. Overall nice place.

Do you want a side of tots? Well you have to pay for the loaded ones. Plus you will wait half an hour for your drink.

You had me at Killian's on tap. Dad and I came here for lunch on SoxFest Saturday and we shared a good experience. He had a Smithwick's pint and I, a Killian's. Pretty decent menu (prices were what you'd expect for a restaurant on Michigan Avenue, which is to say, 'a lot'). My old man enjoyed his pulled pork sandwich that came with salt & vinegar chips. I ordered their 'world famous' mac & cheese, which when it arrived was an unexpected (unpleasant?) surprise. They start with spiral tube noodles in a creamy, white cheese sauce and then top it with breadcrumbs. Then it gets weird. A substantial drizzling of salted caramel accompanied a sweet, sugary mixture that reminded me of the toppings on a streusel muffin. The idea of combining sweet with savory is ambitious, but I don't think it worked in this case. Cheesy mac should be left well enough alone--don't get creative and ruin a good thing! On the upside, it came with lumps of pulled pork, so it was like getting a side order of meat with my mac. We only stopped in for a quick bite, but the service was friendly and expedient, so I would return.

I waited outside the restaurant and asked to be seated. A very rude waitress told me my dog was not allowed in the outdoor patio. No problem. I asked to place an order to go instead. She told me to hang on a second, and went back inside. No one ever came out again. I waited for 15 minutes. I clearly wanted your business, but you couldn't care less. Very smart, thank you for your outstanding service. I gave up and left.

Was really disappointed for an irish restaurant the shepherds pie was bad. Unfortunately a tornado watch forced me to stay put.

Kitty O'Shea's has a great atmosphere. I went there on the first day of the Blackhawks Convention at the Hilton. Nothing but red in there! Anyway, the pulled pork sandwich I ate was very good. The sauce it came with was great and the pork was cooked well. It was one of maybe fifteen total menu items, which was definitely a drawback. The sandwich with fries was $13, which was more than I wanted to pay but not terrible for being in a hotel on S Michigan. All in all, it was a good experience but there's a small section and it's somewhat expensive. I recommend it over the other restaurant on the other side of the lobby.

I can think of about 20 Irish pubs off the top of my head that are better than Kitty's, but if you've got someone from out of town staying at a hotel off Michigan Ave it's not a bad option. The food is decent, they pour a good Guinness and there's usually some sort of live Irish music so your mom and dad will probably get a kick out of that. Mine always do. My biggest issue has always been the under staffing here. It's taken forever the couple times I've been before, but last night our poor waitress was incredibly swamped. We waited for a good half hour till our drink order was taken and almost that for it to arrive. Our girl was hustling so it definitely wasn't her fault, but another employee or two on the floor probably would have stepped up the overall star experience.

Corned Beef Sliders and Shepard's Pie are a MUST. So yummy. We were staying at the Hilton and didn't want to go out since it was raining and foggy. Didn't expect much from this pub, but we were so happy with our meal! The Shepard's pie was perfect for the weather. It just warmed me up inside, Kids liked their mac n cheese and fish n chips.

Walked in. Made eye contact with two waiters. Sat at the bar made eye contact with bartender. Waited 5 minutes and nobody so much as said be right with you. Dunzo.

In town for a conference and this bar is located in Hilton so stopped in for a desert and wine. Great waiter Jay , helped me on desert choice and I decided on the salted caramel crunch cake and glass of Riesling. It was good for bar desert and waiter was great so I'm happy. I agree with some of the other reviewers it is pricey.

Good Irish fare decently priced. I especially dug the wings. And I'm a hardcore wing bigot. OMGGGGG!

This was an irish bar in the lobby of the Hilton Chicago which was across the street from Grant Park. We just had beer in here. They were friendly and the employees had authentic irish accents.

Lousy service. No personality. Food not bad but in a so called Irish joint, you expect Irish hospitality.

Went here for a work date. Had the pretzel appetizer and chicken sammich on a pretzel bun. Not mind blowing but it filled me up. Work date had the fish and chips which looked pretty good and he seemed to be content. I hear this is a decent place to stop before a bears game. Overall, not terrible, but meh.

The "Irish Pub" looks like half diner half failed attempt for a pub feel. We ordered a salad that tastes horrible besides the bacon and egg on it. 5je chicken wings were good. The service was a joke. The bartender obviously does not give a shit about his job.

This probably would have been 3 stars if not for the prices. We came on a friday during the blackhawks convention which we did not know about (try social media so your customers know whats up) and it was absolutely packed. Idk how but we scored a table outside right away and luckily it was nice outside. The food was cooked well but was nothing special. I got the bourbon salmon which need more glaze (the glaze was delicious) but for what you get on the plate it isn't worth the $18. My gf got the shepards pie which was pretty decent but tasted a little bland and not homemade. We got buttered cabbage (good but needed a little pepper and salt maybe), and the mac and cheese which was decent. Their home brew is ok after a glass but my initial thoughts on it were fairly negative. The service was good, a little attitude-y at first but i can imagine she was under a lot of pressure, that place had to of been filled to capacity and then she was much nicer later. The biggest disappointment was the prices which was cool with us since we had a giltcity voucher and it only cost us $29 (SCORE!) However i would not return without a voucher or something. But what do i know, go check it out and yelp it!

Very disrespectful. Will never go back! Came an hour before closing and was turned away. Am telling everyone I know never to come to this bar and never stay at this hotel.

Outdoors were awesome! The weather was great! They do close the patio at 11:00pm but that was plenty of time for me to enjoy the outdoors. Joe was our server and he was such a pleasure.

Located inside the Chicago Hilton, this Irish restaurant has the appeal of a pub, but falls a bit short in what I would expect a restaurant especially inside of a Hilton to be. We waited at least 20 minutes to have our order taken, mind this was our first night at the hotel and we were already tired and hungry.. The table next to us was quite close and I felt I was intruding their meal. It was odd to see them eating and having what seemed to be a good time, while we quietly and patiently had to wait for someone to notice us. We ordered some typical traditional Irish foods, and waited once more. There was a live performance with a fiddler and a singer, and that was pleasant I guess but was definitely quite loud. I think a better design would be to have the musician in the pub/bar area, with distinct tables for families and larger groups. Food was ok, and felt I had to eat all of it because I was hungry. Maybe we came on the wrong night, but I would expect a restaurant that KNOWS it will be busy to take care of each of their customers properly. They're not only dining at the restaurant but most likely staying at the hotel too.. Don't wanna lose hotel guests by a negative experience at a resultant, do you?

Kitty O'sheas is located in the Chicago Hilton. Had lunch here upon arrival for a conference. Wasn't very busy so service was quick. I had the grilled chicken sandwich and it was very good. My daughter had the Mac and cheese which comes in a mini cast iron skillet and was very good. My friend had the fish and chips and said it was also very good. A little pricy but in a hotel after all.

This is definitely a hotel bar. However the drinks are pretty bad. My summer lemonade came with a gummy orange. It felt like I was I ordered a kiddy drink! It cost $12 and had very little alcohol. The meal wasn't worth the cost either. My chicken sandwich looked like a half a breast and I never revived the honey mustard for which I asked. My friends got the soup with Irish soda bread, both were not good and they are less than half. Overall, if you're in need of some calories and a place to drink light drinks- this is the place. Otherwise, walk outside the hotel and experience another restaurant. I won't be returning here by choice. I considered one star, but since I didn't get food positioning I will give it two.

Good selection of beer and the shepherds pie was okay. Seriously lacking in table seating.

It opens until late, food is good but the service and price is bit poor. I saw the menu at the entrance and decided what to have but once I sat at the table, waier told me there isn't such thing. Where's my Shepherd's pie gone!?? One of the guy who took my order was blunt, seems like he wanted me to go away soon, but other guy offered me water when I did not have anvthing to drink, so I think not all of them are unfriendly. That saved me somehow. It's in Hilton hotel, so we expect hotel standard but I feel Hilton is not doing very well in that aspect....

Located inside the Hilton. Service was great but don't waste your money on drinks (unless they are bottled or on tap). Their mixed drinks are very weak and very expensive. We spent $44 on 2 drinks and 2 shots. We only went there for drinks so I can't comment on their food.

Kind of pricey because it is attached to the Hilton. The waiters were slow. There was nobody there and we still waited for a good 5 minutes before anyone eve said hi. That is not a long time, but when you are one of 4 other patrons, it seems service should be snappier. The potato flat bread was great. They have Murphy's on the menus but when asked for, we were told they no longer carry it. What is up with not updating your menu? Went with a Smithwicks, but still!

Not too shabby for a pub in a hotel. Bartenders and servers are excellent. Draught selection isn't great but they up for it with some really good onion rings.

Wandered over here on Friday night after a day at Lollapalooza and had a decent time. It's a hotel bar, so you'll be hanging out with tourists, but since all of them had a Lolla story, it was fun to share in them. The place is clean and decorated and they had a dude playing some traditional irish songs making for a pleasant atmosphere. The bartender was awesome, though I may be more than a little biased toward an Irish bartender. But the Guinness should come in a Guinness glass. This is the Hilton, after all! The waitstaff get uniforms, and so should the drinks! So yeah, I'll always choose Fado for a Guinness, but it's nice to mix it up every once in a while. And when you're in Grant Park, this place is super convenient.

Although nothing is more generic than an Irish pub in a hotel, the food is pretty decent. The wings were crispy and spicy and the wild boar sloppy Joe was tasty and filling and the French fries (steak style) were excellent. Music was nice; The Strokes and Muse come to mind. Its actually a 2 stars joint, but for not sucking as a hotel pub it gets an extra star.

I'd remembered that Kitty O'Shea's served the best Chicken Pot Pie on the planet, so I insisted that my convention colleagues join me here for dinner. It's the crazy crowded hotel bar, but they were willing to accommodate. Unfortunately, they've taken the pot pie off the menu, and we just had a passable dinner in a busy hotel bar. Darn! The Shepherd's Pie was only fair. The cheesy potato top was okay, but there was more gravy than meat underneath, and the meat wasn't very well seasoned (no lamb involved either, but it still had looked like the best thing on the menu.) Mussels were equally boring, although I did appreciate that they had opened them in the kitchen so I didn't have to stare longingly at any closed shells. My colleagues were okay with their salad and fish & chips, but they weren't anything special.

    (2)
  • Fred D.

I'm being generous with the stars because we didn't order any food. We got back to the hotel late and were not ready to turn in, so we came here to Kitty O'Shea's. It was a pleasant surprise as it was relatively quiet and so we were quickly seated and served. We ordered Bailey's and decaf and they were hot and flavorful though not overly steeped with Bailey's. I had two and didn't feel particularly inebriated so I think they went pretty easy on the Bailey's. You wouldn't have thought that from the price which was typical hotel bar pricing. We enjoyed our visit enough that we considered returning, but there was just nothing all that special about Kitty O'Shea's that we wouldn't go, as another reviewer noted, to a Starbuck's down the street instead. Okay for a hotel bar, but nothing much beyond that.

Stayed at the Hilton and came here for a later dinner but not absurdly late by any means. The whole "seat yourself" thing at 9pm is annoying when you're coming to eat and drink, not just drink. We found a spot to sit with relative ease, but it took nearly 10 minutes for someone to come acknowledge our presence. It was busy, and I understand that, but maybe just maybe they should have a hostess. The food was ok; the boyfriend had the burger; I had the chicken, brie, and arugula sandwich. It tasted good but was a bit bland (would have been better had I asked for them to add the onion jam that accompanies the burger). The burger was decent but also a bland, aside from the tasty jam. The fries were ok, as were the chips; they would have been better had they actually been warmer. Overall, this place was convenient and the food was ok. I'd recommend it to someone who wants to pick something up if they're staying in the Hilton, want something sit-down-y and relaxing, and don't want to move beyond the confines of the hotel. Otherwise, I'd totally pass on it and recommend people do the same.

Weak drinks, terrible bartender, overpriced. The lady who "helped" us at the bar couldn't bartend her way out of a paper bag

Not much to write about this place. We happened to be staying at the hotel and after walking around the city we stopped into Kitty's for a beer. Service was ok, nice decor we did not try the food so cannot comment on that.
