Kasia's is a great place to pick up lunch or just pick up food in general to take home. Their food is fresh, the deli is clean and the employees are nice. My favorite are their Pierogi. They are probably hands down one of the best, if not the best in Chicago. Unfortunately sour cream doesn't come with them, and a person like me HAS to have sour cream with their pierogi, but they have containers of sour cream for sale in the refrigerated section, so I buy that. The potato pancakes are good, but they are not as good as the ones at actual restaurants, but HEY, it's a deli. so they are pretty good for that. Also try the stuffed cabbage, it's a favorite. So if you're in the neighborhood, give Kasia's a try. Their pierogi are great, prices are affordable. All in all, It's a great Polish deli. No wonder it has been around so long!

I used to come here all the time when I lived in the area. I love soup and they have several varieties. The borscht is great. Kasias carries Polish favorites like potato cakes, Polish pickles, various salads, and stews. There are all sorts of meats and sausages; the roast beef is one of my favorites. Delicious pierogis; I wish they had more varieties! Everything is fresh and super inexpensive. That staff is mostly Eastern European women who are very nice.

Just found this gem by work thanks to a coworker who knows good food. I was a little hesitant since I'm not super familiar with Polish delis, but quickly found I could recognize almost everything I saw in their deli cases. The prepared foods do look really yummy and I've only had the cabbage rolls with tomato sauce. I liked them, but the super cheap price is what really made them great. I've also had a variety of the soups. Out of the chicken noodle (no chicken, just noodles & carrots in chicken broth), tomato noodle (creamy tomato soup with noodles), and the minestrone (cabbage, carrots tomatoes, corn, red beans, potatoes, macaroni, celery, etc.) I definitely would choose the minestrone since you get more stuff in the soup. However, the last time I got the soup and asked for it to be heated up, when I dug into it later, it was really cold. BOO! Who likes cold soup? Ruined the whole experience for me. I had to knock off a star for that and for the sometimes not nice service. I hope to update this review later when I try more stuff from the prepared meals and a sandwich (sliced and made fresh!) or two. $2 for a good portion of soup and some tasty looking prepared entrees will keep me coming back. Oh, and they have a couple tables where you can eat there if you want, but it's definitely a deli more than a cafe, so I usually take everything to go.

My mother and I make a monthly pilgrimage to Kasia's all the way from Milwaukee. We go on Fridays so we can get as much of the fried Perch as we can afford. Their chicken soup is reminiscent of Grandma's and that is saying a lot. I can't think of anything there that isn't worth trying. The only drawback is the English/Polish communication barrier. They aren't rude about it though so it's really not an issue.

Had some at taste of chicago and ate here again while wandering little ukraine. I had a bit of the sausages, cabbage rolls and blinkes. no idea how to spell that! The people working there were really patient and recommended items for me to try.

Love it - we have catered many events and had many Kasia's lunch/dinner meals over the years and never a disappointment. They even make certain dishes "fast friendly" for the Ukrainian holidays like Christmas Eve, when you can't have meat or dairy - major plus. I don't like that they use too much pepper in the potato pierogies (when you order huge trays of them) and sometimes the cabbage rolls are a bit over-peppered but otherwise all their food is great. When ordering a lunch sandwich, the ladies slice the meat & cheese so thin (but pile it on) it's the best. Always better to get here early before they are out of things since they don't have the same things available every day. Mushroom barley and vegetable soups are so perfect during the colder months and the prices are great. One of my favorite dinner meals to make from here is the potato fingers with roasted pork (you have to get it sliced) and then just heat up at home in either Kasia's mushroom gravy or make your own.

Mmmmm. Nothing better than some amazing soup when it's -10 degrees outside! Tomato noodle soup is the bomb .com and it's only $2.99 for a quart. Don't think it will last you a couple days- I ate all mine as soon as I got home to heat it up. As for the other food...it seems like there's a good selection of traditional Polish food, and it's all pretty cheap. Service is not so great. But what do you expect? It's a deli.

I was overwhelmed the first time I walked in to here. They are extremely friendly and with Mom behind the counter, it encourages you to say to yourself "this stuff is for real." Everything is a hit. We all know the pierogi's are out of this world. Take them home, fry with a little butter and you're golden. The endless selection of prepared foods ensures that there is something for everyone here. They even have charnina (i believe the spelling is correct), which is reminiscent of my mom's from back home. The prices are also extremely reasonable and the staff is very helpful for you to pick out your selections.

I live just a few blocks from the place and you can't even imagine how many times Kasia's have saved me from starvation. After telling the counter lady to pile on home made kielbasa, sauerkraut, spinach pies, meat loaf, hamburger and chicken patties, pork cutlets, cabbage rolls, mushroom pies, beef stew, pierogis etc. in to- go containers and then paying less than $6, this place is all good in my book. I don't think I've paid anything more than $15 at any given point at this place and that's PLENTY of food. The place was just recently remodeled, so everything looks bright, new, and shiny. The food is solid traditional polish fare with some comfort dishes thrown in like beef stew or stroganoff. I've also heard they make a killer chop suey! They have salads, sandwiches, soups and desserts. It's also a mini grocery store where you can pick up polish and other european goodies. Service is okay. It just depends on who it is. Some of the ladies look downright miserable working there or seem impatient with you? Can't tell. But there are a select few who are less intimidating. Hint: They are the ones who actually make eye contact. Don't let that stop you from going in though, the food and value is worth it.

Ups: Extremely yummy homemade sausage. Food packaging in Polish for those who are tickled by novelty. Tons of options in a small space. Generally very tasty deli food. Extremely cheap. Gloriously cheap. Downs: Not so friendly staff. Maybe this would be different if I was Polish? Who knows. Also, I had tuna salad here once- I had one bite and had to throw it away. Other than that, good food. Although, I wish they had Pierogis ready to eat, not just frozen.

On my way to work I was looking to get a quick sandwich so I opted for the deli and not the Dominick's next door. It was very clean inside and the food was nicely displayed. I don't eat Polish often so I wasn't sure what food to expect. The entree choices looked good; it may be a nice place to pick up an already made dinner. They made me a sandwich to go. It was ENORMOUS! You cannot finish it in one sitting. And I like to eat. Very generous portions, lots of meat, and everything tasted very fresh. My only complaint is that their $10 minimum on using plastic is annoying and technically not allowed: yelp.com/topic/boston-10… consumerist.com/consumer…

I've only had a few things from Kasia's since moving to the 'hood and all have been delish. 1.) Less than $4 for a made-to-order fresh deli sandwich. 2.) I always keep the sweet cheese pierogi's stocked in my freezer and fry them up for a quick snack or side dish. 3.) They had paczki on Fat Tuesday. 4.) Lunchmeat is really fresh and comparable (or less) priced to Dominick's & Jewel. 5.) Only got 4 stars b/c the workers seem kind of grumpy/attitude (and I'm Polish!)

  • Katie S.

Love me some Kasia's. They have fresh delicious food and a friendly staff. I love their tuna salad and all the sausages. Awesome cabbage rolls. This is a perfect place to stop if you are going to a bbq and you need to bring a fresh side dish. Yummm! Give the chicken burger thing a try... it's so good on it's own. I love going in to Kasia's and asking the sweet girls behind the counter if they have any recommendations, they always do and I'm always so happy.

Tons of deli offerings, great soups ( dill pickle soup rocks!), and ridiculously cheap. Great little place. They close early on Sundays (2pm) which for some reason is always the day I feel like going.

I went in for a quick bite with a family member. He got a sandwich from the deli and thoroughly enjoyed it. I got spinach pie and an apple turnover. Delicious! Even with a quick smokey on the way out (for the dogs) we spent well under $10. The women at the counter were very kind and patient as we made our choices from several delicious looking items. I will definitely be back.

  • Jen G.

Great food, friendly staff, and ridiculously low prices. You can have your food heated up and eat it there, but beware that they only have two small tables. If you want pierogies, make sure you get there early in the day because they sell out fast! In addition to the pierogies, I will definitely be back for weekly staples such as their sliced deli meat. It's better than what you get at the grocery stores, and is much less expensive.

Kasia's catered my wedding last weekend, and everything was perfect. The food was delicious plus very reasonably priced. The servers were fantastic and also did a great job cutting my cake. We ordered pierogies, spinach lasagna, sausage & sauerkraut, salad, beans & potatoes - all great. I highly recommend hiring them for an event.

  • Joyce P.

Although they could never be as good as my Baccia's cooking...their grocery store aisle frozen pierogi's are delicious---try their fresh ones--even better. I used the deli to cater a baby shower and their prices were awesome as was their customer service. They have more than Polish food for people that are unfamilair with Polish cooking. I will definitley be using them in the future.

  • Dan E.

I haven't been here since they remodeled the place. Yeah you got your standard East European fare -- sausage, pierogi and soups -- but what surprised me is that you can also get spinach pie, lasagna and crab cakes. There's a few tables up in front. I didn't have to resort to my Polish language skills; I found the service to be pleasant and helpful.

I have been shopping at Kasia's Deli since 1982 and she is one of the nicest, hard working people that came from Poland as a single mother with nothing but her chidren. This woman is a Chicago success story ! Her food is excellent! Her ham off the bone is great, her perogis rock as does her kabanosy. Sometimes, I will say her staff is not as friendly, if they are not familiar with you and appear rude.

i work a block away from this polish deli and it is splendid. it is amazingly cheap, good food. i always get a few potato and cheese pirogues and a mac and cheese croquet for under five bucks. yes please.

Best polish food in the city. It's so good, that they now offer the pierogis in frozen packages at Jewel! My top three food choices here: 1. Pierogis (These are just HEAVENLY!) 2. Tuna Salad 3. Potato Pancakes (put some sour cream on those bad boys and mmm-mmm-mmm!) I highly recommend this place. Buy some food from there to serve your family and friends and believe me, they'll all be hooked!

This is the closest you'll get to Poland in Chicago. Pierogies are awesome and prices are cheap! Go there.

If you love your Ukrainian food like I do, you are going to love Kasia's. You can get Pyrogy, Sausage, Potato Pancakes, Cabbage rolls and even fresh baked bread. If you don't speak the language, just point. Kasia's also has a catering service which is stellar. Give it a try.

Oh shit, Kasia's is awesome! Used to live a couple blocks from this place. When I was low on cash, I knew I could step here and get pounds of food for five bucks. Some of the classics: pirogi (the strawberry ones are the bomb), potato pancake, chicken cutlet, pork cutlet, beef stew, that mini meatloaf with the bacon draped over the top, the roast chicken, and, of course, the stuffed cabbage. Though not made by Kasia's the random sweets on top of the counter were also a must have, in addition to that weird juice in a box on the shelves. Also, I would like to emphasize that this is a deli, which means that they prepare the food daily and stick it in the case, and the customer can take it home to reheat or Kasia's will reheat for you. If you believe "fresh" food is made to order, this place will disappoint you. Sorta like if you go to a Jewish deli and order a knish, expecting the place to make the knish right then and there, you will be disappointed. It's a deli, where they sell prepared foods. Finally, even though the counter women seem like salty Polish ladies, they are actually quite helpful and will answer most questions (such as "What is that right there?"). Prices are listed on a sign on the back wall (there's a sign for deli meats, and a sign for prepared food, IMMSC).

If you live nearby and like pierogies, you can get packs of Kasia's frozen pierogies here for $3 each...much cheaper than they sell them for at Jewel or Dominick's, plus they actually have all the flavors available, both the sweet and savory varieties, as well as the blintzes and potato pancakes. I haven't had any of their prepared food yet, but I'm anxious to try.

Stupendously delicious food at such wonderfully reasonable prices. I am a single guy and I don't have a lot of money or time, This places hooks me up soooo well. I get the hand made fresh deli sandwiches, which usually feed me twice! And sometimes I put together what a could be easily mistaken for a home cooked meal of chicken and mashed potatoes or veal meatballs or one of their stews, something ominously exquisite like that. And when I get to the register, I am flabbergasted by how little money they want from me! At home, I pretend my old world Polish grandmother has been cooking all day, waiting for me to get home. . This is not like bringing home the two Whopper special, onion rings and a Dr. Pepper, (Though it is probably cheaper) I might even use real silverware and sit at a table to eat! ITS THAT GOOD!! After that. usually, my head gets wobbly and I lay down, drifting off to sleep, delightfully dreaming of the next time I visit this perky Polish Princess' emporium of epicurean treats.

i love this place. I've been here a number of times but just never got around to writing a review. The food is all fresh and tasty and displayed in nice deli counter cases. They have all the fresh deli meats and a great selection of homemade food . The variety of fresh dishes is outstanding. Everything I've ordered has been outstanding. The prices are great. I just wish they had more room to sit down and eat there. Parking is an issue as well.

VEGETARIANS & HYGIENIC PEOPLE BEWARE! After living locally in Ukrainian Village for 5 years and fully aware of what "polish food" entails, I decided on a whim to give this place a shot figuring a generic sandwich-to-go here would be better than Subway or Dominicks around the corner. Not only was I disgusted by the pickled pig feet and other nauseatingly bizarre "delicacies" but I noticed that the lady making the sandwiches behind the deli counter was not wearing a hair net. Ummm....isn't that against food safety code? Low and behold, I get home, unwrap my veggie sandwich and within the first two bites I spit out what turns out to be a long curly crunchy black hair in the middle of the cheese and lettuce. After opening the sandwich I discover not just one, but TWO strands of long hair. I know it wasn't mine, because I'm a hygienic-conscious vegetarian with long blonde hair. I don't eat meat, and I don't eat human hair either. That's just sick. And I was sick-to-my-stomach. I called immediately to notify the owner, Kasia, that strands of black hair were found in my sandwich that I nearly ingested, due to her employee not wearing a hair net while preparing food for customers. While she was nice and told me to come back to give me my money back, she did not address the fact that this was due to lack of proper hygiene during food prep. And she kept insisting to make me a new sandwich. Are you kidding me? I will never eat there again! Next time I'll go Subway and pay $5 for double the cheese on bread sandwich, minus the human hair strands.

Great Polish food at a great price! Less than $8 for a fresh lunch for 2 people? Can't beat that!

This place is a great local alternative the the god aweful Subway on Chicago and Damen. Kasias is great, because unlike other places in the area, you can get enough to eat for less than $5. Just don't get hit by a car if you're trying to cross Chicago at Hoyne. That seems to happen just about every time I cross there. It is worth the risk for Kasia's Deli though. Go here.

This place DOES have good pierogi. But the Mushroom barley. dill soups are great. The mushroom eggrolls (not oriental style, But rolled up in a crepe with some breadcrumb-like topping) are fantastic. The rice as a sidedish or by itself is good too.

I love Kasia's. Recently they've rearranged the store and made the ready-to-go items even more presentable and delicious looking. It's inexpensive and tasty. When I feel like some childhood comfort food favorites without hours of slaving over a stove this is my neighborhood standby.

I have very mixed feelings about this place. Now, I brought this home for grandma and she seemed content with the czernina (if you don't know what that is, don't ask, you'll want to gag :)), and the cabbage rolls. so ok, two stars. But they didn't have potato pancakes (which I found especially odd during Hanukkah, if I remember correctly from the two Hanukkah celebrations I attended, they play a pretty big role- but perhaps they were just sold out because of the holiday?). This made grandma sad. They also didn't have any fresh pierogi, I guess I hadn't realized it would all be frozen! Boo! I can go to the grocery store and get that, didn't need to come all the way out to the deli for it! Hell I could probably get the recipe from grandma and make it the way my family likes it! (unfortunately I am far too lazy). On top of that, I asked for sauerkraut pierogis and when I got home discovered she did not include those too, just the potato. Grandma was not happy. After running out especially for her, I was ready to shoot myself because of these disappointments. Staff is nice, and its cool to hear the polish language even though I only know a few choice words (you know, busha, zsa-zsa, if that's even how either are spelled, and some expletive that I have no idea how to spell nor its translation, just that I know its an expletive and that's all I need to know :)). 3 stars I would be willing to give it another shot, but I would try other places for fresh pierogi which is SO MUCH better than frozen!

The service is not so good, employees can tend to be rude. P.S. Once I wanted a turkey sandwich. It consisted of the following: Bread Mayonaisse Turkey Swiss Cheese I asked if she got everything, including the cheese. She said yes. I came home and there was no cheese! Now, who the hell gets a meal consisting of 4 thing screwed up! She said she got the cheese and no cheese. Grrr. But, I called them up and told them, Kasia answered the phone and gave me credit for a free sandwich. Not bad. Now, the pierogi's are pretty good, potatoe pancakes are just good, the little market look is cool, and overall it's a good place to get a few household items, a drink, and some of Poland's food, or maybe not really. I recommend. Worth a try.

Some of the best pierogi in the city...maybe even the entire country. They're good...very very very good. If you love Polish food, you have to go to this place. If you want to try Polish food, you have to go to this place. Stop reading and just go.

When you've got a cold or just feeling crappy, Kasia's chicken noodle soup is exactly what you need. Worth the trek on cold, snowy days. I also recommend the lasagna (who would have known ??) and the pirogis. The fact that the employees don't speak the best English always makes things a bit more adventurous.

The best potato pierogies I have had are from here. The outside is soft and not gummy or too thick. The filling is perfectly potato-y and the butter seals the deal. Sour cream. dont forget sour cream.

  • John H.

the stuffed cabbage is amazing, like my grandma used to make, and the spinach stuffed chicken is fantastic. i buy 10-12 of the stuffed cabbage rolls in tomato sauce (put it in the refrigerator) and eat it throughout the week. it gets better the longer it marinates in the sauce. look forward to trying more of their entrees and the prices cannot be beat. enjoy the home cooking!

The Ukrainian borscht at this Polish deli is delicious. It has a base of chicken stock thickened with sour cream. It's full of delicious sliced cabbage, diced potatoes and other veggies. It's perfectly seasoned and has a slightly sour taste from the added sour cream. This is top notch borscht that can't be beat for taste. Scrumptious. Other take out offerings are superior and homemade. Cabbage rolls stuffed with buckwheat are a vegetarian treat. They come with a light tomato sauce. And this being Kasia's, there are at least a dozen varieties of pierogies. I'm really fond of the potato, cheese, and the sauerkraut and mushroom varieties, which boil up well in a couple of minutes. Even the tuna salad is good. This is a sharp little shop, neat, bright and organized. No clutter or crowded aisles. Packaged goods are along one side, prepared foods along the other, and homemade soups in containers chilling in the back. Order and pay up front. Sometimes they call numbers and sometimes they don't. There are a couple of tables for dining in. The service is pretty typical for a Polish deli--need I say more? But don't let that deter you. Get your hands on some of this delicious grub.

My boyfriend and I got a flat while apartment hunting and happened to be a few blocks away from Kasia's. We were getting hungry and needed to call AAA because we ran into some problems. While we waited I looked for places to get take out near our location. While he waited I walked to find Kasia's and was very pleased when I walked through the door. Bright, inviting and a whole lot of Polish goodies. (I'm half Polish, but the bf is not.) So I knew I had to get something he would like, but had never tried. The young lady behind the counter was really nice and welcoming and offered a few suggestions. I ended up going back to the car with some pierogies, cabbage rolls and beef puffs. Those plus two sodas and some chips came out to less than 20 dollars and made waiting for our mechanic a better experience. I will definitely visit Kasia's again and again.

Came in here with high expectations due to the rave reviews. But very disappointed.. First of all, I am 100% Polish. I grew up eating all of my moms homemade polish food. Golabki, pierogi, sauerkraut, spare ribs, etc. Well, I grew up, got married and moved out. Unfortunately I didn't learn how to make this amazing food, and of course my husband (whose italian) hates polish food...so I never attempt to make it at our place. And once in a while I just CRAVE my moms food! But what's a girl to do when she doesn't live close? She starts yelping polish places close to her of course! Yelp led me to Kasias. I got there on a Wednesday around 5:00. It was dead in there, yet the lady behind the counter didn't even acknowledge me until I had to get HER attention. Anyways, I got a few different things to go (see pic). In general, everything was TASTELESS. NO FLAVOR. Ok I know polish food isn't known for being the most flavorful, but my moms def is! Kasias golabki was 90% rice and 10% meat. Horrible. The sauce on them was like straight out of a Campbell's tomato soup can. The only pierogi they had available behind the counter was a potato one- also boring. And the sauerkraut....nasty flavor. Yuck. Will never be going back here!

Probably not the best place to frequent if you're New Years resolution is to eat healthier, but for awesome Polish food that will keep some dough in your pocket this place rocks! Get made to order sandwiches for under 5 bucks, ridiculously delicious cabbage rolls, and of course their signature pierogies that you can find a packaged version of in any Jewel or Mariano's around town. Trust me the fresh made deli version is why the frozen ones are now available. The ladies who run this joint are incredibly kind especially for how hectic it gets in here. The work ethic and hospitality are everything you'd expect from a little mom and pop shop like this. Overall a must try especially if you like Polish food.

Seems that Norcal just doest have the Eastern European population needed to sustain a way for me to get it's food as often as I want. Go to Chicago and there's a wealth of it. In fact when I was at Charlie Trotter's before they closed, our captain was plotting to open his own Polish cuisine place. I hope that's happened the next time Im in town. Otherwise I have to settle with eating here and smuggling pierogies and such back. Potato and cheese cooked in butter? Delicious

  • Scott X.

I was so excited to read about this place, since Ukrainian Village nowadays has more Mexican restaurants than authentic Eastern European options. But I have to agree with an earlier reviewer about being disappointed. This business is smaller & with a much more limited selection than the favorable reviews would lead you to believe.

Two months later, and I'm giving Kasia's another 5-star review! I completely failed to mention how awesome the ladies who work here are! They are always very helpful and pleasant. I just swung by Kasia's in a mad rush on my lunch break for some perogies, caprese-like salad, chips, and a drink. I put my chips on the counter and the girl working the counter noticed a huge hole in my chip bag that I failed to notice in the big rush I was in and pointed it out to me. I appreciate that!! Thanks for making my lunch taste even better!!!

Their deli meats look very fresh. When I came they had a sandwich deal with a soda and soup. The egg and ham sandwich was very good. Ooh and their sauerkraut soup was soo delish and perfect for the cold night I came here on.

GREAT food!!! A friend recommended Kasia's to me and I glad I came! Had the chicken noodle soup and an old world polish sandwich. I bought chicken salad and vegetable cream soup I will get to enjoy later. I plan on coming back when I'm in the area!!

Yes, this deli shares the same name as the staple brand of packaged pierogies. That ain't a coincidence- this is the same place. In fact, I'm pretty sure you can still see Kasia working in her store, amongst her delicious deli counter selections and near the wall in which hangs photos of her with Polish dignitaries, celebrities and even Martha Stewart. And no wonder- because besides growing her own stuffed dumpling empire, this deli is a wonderful operation all by itself. Offering up a wide selection of freshly prepared foods, deli meats and cheeses, and a small sampling of Polish grocery items, Kasia's is important to me because it offers you a whole lot of delicious and well-balanced food items for very little money. I can honestly say that the few dinners I've planned around a trip to Kasia's is maybe more economical than if I cook a full, balanced meal on my own for just my wife and me- and I know how to cook healthy and on the cheap. Kasia's takes that age-old economic principal- economies of scale, and passes on those savings to the consumer. Yet, you won't find anything here that isn't made in a way that tastes delicious, fresh and like your Grandmother would have made it.* I particularly adore their cabbage rolls, hunters stew, sour cole slaw and of course- the pierogies. Fresh vegetables are always on offer too- so you can come here, get a fully prepared meal, and with enough variety always on offer- can come back many times without having to repeat your order. *That is, if your Grandmother was an excellent cook who just happens to be Polish. Neither of my Grandmothers were Polish, and only one was a decent enough cook.

The prices were okay. I liked their macaroni salad; it was pretty solid - a good amount of crunch with mayo dressing. The potato pancakes weren't the best I've had, but it was okay. The potato & cheese pierogies were nice with the sour cream, but maybe should have been sauteed a bit more for that nice crisp on the outside. The battered cauliflower was good, but underseasoned. There are only two tables with two chairs each, so if you're lucky, you can score a table, but most people just do carry-out. I would prefer getting the prepackaged ones at your local grocery store, sautee them up in butter, and then top it with sour cream - it's a great meal! +pierogies :D

This corner deli contains all things Polish. It has lunch special under $6 though I've never tried it. My usual orders are pierogies (must try...0.50/piece), veal meatballs with mushroom sauce (about $8/lb), and grilled veggies (about $5/lb). Prices are pretty reasonable. Thank you for the presence of Kasia's Deli to save me trouble from cooking since I rarely have time to do so. In addition, there are many choices of soup. My favorite are the Ukranian Borsch soup. Sometimes they have discount on their soup because it has been out longer and they need to sell it as soon as possible. I'm a happy camper when I encounter discounted soup because you can get a large tub for $1.99...that's not bad at all.

We used this place to cater a baby shower, I went there with my pregnant wife to pick up what was described as great food, our food order was $200+. Once we got to the store the experience deteriorated, the staff were the most rude people I have experience. They treated us like something they stepped in, I will never buy from here again. I can't understand how they stay in business, they are an embarrassment to Polish people. Horrible experience.

A prepared food oasis for the culinary challenged. I base this review on more than 10 years of patronizing Kasia's. In that time, I've tried nearly everything they sell, all of which is reasonably priced and home made. If you are a bachelor/bachelorette who can't cook, you can take care of your dinners for the work week for 30-40 bucks - or the price of a dinner for two at a moderately priced restaurant. Some of my favorites include: - Stuffed cabbage - sounds gross - looks weird - tastes fantastic. Plus it's reasonably healthy (I think the tomato sauce may have some cream) and they offer it daily. - Split pea and ham soup - never again... will I waste hours trying to make this myself. Absolutely fantastic and about 3 bucks out the door for a large. - Pork/Beef stews - Light on veggies heavy on savory flavor and especially satisfying on these cold winter evenings. [As is their chili.] - Pierogies - As good as the packaged variety is, there is nothing like getting them freshly done from the source. They go quite well with the aforementioned stews. -Chicken Burgers - Chick Filet has nothing on this place. Plus unlike CF, they don't openly hate homosexuals and they are open on Sundays. - Sandwiches - They have a variety of high quality meats and cheeses (it is a deli after all) and will make basically any sandwich you want for under 6 bucks. Some reviews have mentioned the service. In the old days, if you didn't speak polish the only words in English the staff would say were 'vat elz?' (what else). Over the years, as the neighborhood has become more 'diverse' (with non-ethnic white hipsters and yuppies), the staff will now address you and answer questions in English. But really, almost all the food is already prepared and behind glass. All you need do is point to what you want and tell them how much you want. I suppose if you have food allergies it makes sense to inquire - but just assume everything there has something that will kill you. And compared to notorious service hell holes like Harold's, the staff here are quite reasonable these days. Overall, you can't beat the variety of home made options at their prices.

Great deli in the Ukrainian Village. My family has been coming here ever since I can remember. We have had Kasia's cater our many graduations, communions and parties - they have a wide selection of many appetizers, mains and desserts. Their deli is always stocked with many fresh foods for lunch and dinner.

A great place to grab warm and heat at home comfort food after work. I have had the spinach pies, as well as the more traditional Polish stuff to go. I enjoy the soups. Quick and easy food to take home - Eastern European comfort food at its best. Also, note the cool pictures of Solidarity founder Lech Wałęsa with the owner. Now, that is the real deal. There might be better and bigger places around, but if you live in this area, this is a great pop in solution.

New to the area and decided to stop in because it's walking distance of my new apartment. Was very impressed with the selection of sandwiches and food available. The staff was all very friendly and accommodating. The price of everything for the quality of food will be bringing me back on a regular basis.

This is a deli so if you come here thinking you're able to get a lot of groceries it's not that kind of place. The deli selection is ample enough and the food is good. Standard Polish offerings along with a few not so standard stuff. For instance Lasagna, Chilli, and Spinach pie. My husband really likes their Spinach pie. The back cooler has a selection of soups and prepackaged pierogi the packages that you're familiar with seeing at the grocery story. I know they're supposedly the same but I'm a sucker for the ones in the deli case, they just seem fresher, and fresher is better. The potato & cheese are good a potato consistency with a nice bite to it. My personal favorite is the sweet cheese, brings me back to my childhood, there used to be a restaurant called Busy Bee on Damen that made a good sweet cheese pierogi homemade on site, the two are similar. On the east side of the shop are a few shelves of Polish items and some waters and soda. I'm not sure if this stuff really sells or not, it's about the deli for sure. Watch your receipt, or a better way of saying it is when they hand you your deli order check that the little tag is what you ordered, I ordered sauerkraut and they charged me for hunter's stew, the stew is about a buck more a pound. Simple mistake, and they apologized. But not a bad idea to check it, not only there but probably in general.

I won't be able to say enough good things about this place. Very high quality the most delicious vareniki with potato etc. cooked with relatively less fat then normally vareniki are. Mashed potato is super delicious and veal meat balls I was told by someone who likes veal are super gentle yet with nice taste not overly fatty. The stuff is super friendly and nice. I wish I would live near by I would become a regular. Thank you Kasia!

Kasia's is easily one of the best delis I've ever been to. The food is GREAT, the prices are affordable and service is quick. Only thing I can say is this is not the type of place where you can hang out with a group of friends, since there are only 3 tables with 2 chairs each. It's pretty much a buy-what-you-want-and-get-out-the-door kind of place. But it's a great place, nonetheless.

Was there once and never coming back. I was paying for my purchase and had a water bottle in my purse, one of the girls working there almost fell over the counter trying to look inside my purse. Thanks, I'm not a thief. Also, pretty poorly stocked.

This rating is based on the food vendor at the Taste of Chicago. As usual, the price was high since it was a vendor at the Taste. I got the sampler which came with 2 potato pierogis. They were really good, but I wish the sampler gave more options.

What a great neighborhood deli in Ukrainian Village. APB: When you walk in you need to grab a number from the dispenser located right next to the door. We learned this the hard way! Once we moved past that minor glitch, we were finally able to appreciate all the delicacies behind the deli case. There was everything from fruit, pasta, chicken, and tuna salad. There was even a tuna salad present in half of an avocado. It looked really good and I think I will definitely try it next time. They also had a big selection of Polish/American deli meats, cheeses, sausages, franks, and prepared dishes like chicken cutlets, chicken burgers, perigees, golumpkis, etc. The lovely thing about Kasia's is that the prices are so fair! I can't name too many places where I can leave with a deli sandwich for less than $6! I ordered the chicken burger on wheat toast, with all the fixins. It was just what I expected. It wasn't greasy, nice flavor and it was very filling. My BF ordered the corned beef sandwich, and he REALLY liked it. He said it wasn't as good as his favorite North side deli, but it was a close second. That's a huge compliment if you knew just how much he loves the deli up north. We also ordered a side of the pasta salad and fruit salad. These were staple items that are near impossible to mess up. They were good and a nice side for our sandwiches. They also have a bevy of beverages, sweet treats, and grocery items (the breads looked amazing!!!) to complete your experience here. Patrons at this neighborhood deli have the option of carrying out or dining in. Either way, it's a win-win situation!

On our urban hike, on the way to the Ukranian political rally we picked up borscht, corned beef and pierogi for tomorrows breakfast. Dined in on polish sausage. Lots to choose from, nice friendly service and cheap.

This was my first time here, and I ordered the grilled caprese panini and asked to add chicken. The sandwich itself was phenomenal; it had a great taste. I did however find a piece of either plastic wrap or something plastic in one half of my sandwich. Luckily I picked it out, who knows if I ate any more of it. I also asked if they had a take out menu because I saw more people ordering different types of sandwiches and one of the older ladies rudely said no and brushed me off. I would like to come again and try something new, however if I get the same rude attitude I won't be returning.

I came here because of the good yelp reviews. I'm kind of disappointed. It was very mediocre. We ordered a bunch of deli items, some baked items, and some grocery items. Nothing was spectacular. In fact, the kolackys were extremely disappointing. I don't think they make those in house but still, they couldn't find anything better? I much prefer kurowski's in every way.

Delicious! We had the polish sausage sandwich and the ham & cheese. They were both excellent. Also, the price was great. We had two sandwiches, two bottled beverages and an imported Milka bar for $13. I'd say that's a bargain! And for how delicious the food was, I definitely would have paid more. We'll be going back!

Definitely a little strange when you walk in - hard to figure out what to do. Deli is in the back - front hold per cooked delicious meals that they will heat up for you or wrap. Hidden gem.

After living within walking distance for 6 months, I finally made it to Kasia's. My Polish mother was in town, and I thought it would be fun to surprise her with a poppyseed roll (ok, and gorge myself on pierogies). Cucumber salad was delicious, and pierogies were damn fine. Thumbs up on the appearance of the poppyseed roll ("do you see how the spiral looks?? That is hard to do!"-mom). However, one thing that I noticed made a distinct impression on me: an elderly lady was shopping in the deli, and she was having a hard time holding onto things and getting things off the shelves. One of the women behind the counter took great care of her, and made sure all of her items were taken to the register, without making her feel foolish or incapable. This took a long time, and she even made sure to apologize for any wait we had. That level of caring and patience really makes an impression on me as a customer, and I was very happy to be supporting that kind of small business.

I love that this place is a block away from me. They have awesomely huge, made-to-order sandwiches that will set you back less than $5 and last you several meals. Or, go there on a Tuesday for their special - $4.99 sandwich, salad (potato, macaroni or coleslaw) and a bag of chips. And do yourself a favor by grabbing some dill pickle soup from the refrigerator section at the back... it's addictive! I received a $20 gift certificate for Christmas and had a hard time spending it all because everything is so affordable. But then I got going and ended up spending $35 because everything is also so delicious. Tip: don't forget to grab a number when you walk in, or you'll be standing around in confusion because it's always busy.

Finally stopped in Kasia's for lunch today. I was mesmerized by the display cases full of awesome looking meats, salads, etc that I somehow missed the spot to pull a number for service. (Still have no idea where it is)... After a pretty long wait, I placed my order and COULD NOT BELIEVE that a delicious, high quality, corn beef sandwich with a huge side of kraut, huge side of potato salad, and a bag of chips = $5.50. What? I felt like I was robbing them walking out of there with all that for so little. Aside from the sandwiches, they had a fantastic selection of soups, traditional polish foods, all sorts of pastas - it was definitely more like a polish grocery store that sells sandwiches vs. a sandwich shop (which I initially expected it to be)... Definitely will be back!

Holy Pierogies, Batman! This place has 12 varieties! Somehow I didn't know there were 12 varieties of Pierogies. They sell them in packs of 12 for $3 or for packs for $10. I got four different kinds of Pierogies and a big hunk of smoked sausage and with tax it was less than $13. I'll definitely be back. There's so much more to explore at this place.

I have never really met a pierogi I didn't like. Some better than others of course, and the plump dumplings that they sell here are pretty darn tasty. I am especially fond of the mushroom kraut variety as well as the spinach. Stuffed cabbage is also very good. This is also a great spot to pick up a fresh made sandwich. I love the fried boneless pork on rye, just splendid. Ham, turkey and roast beef are also solid options as they are all cooked from scratch, no salty juiced up cold cuts here. I am also a fan of the soups, in particular the mushroom barley soup. A simple yet delicious concoction of earthy mushrooms and grain, enhanced with a touch of sour cream, yum. Great food to eat on a blustery winter day. Service is no nonsense and can appear to be indifferent at times. I however just love to hear the Polish accents, even if they seem a tad unfriendly. I just sneak in the limited Polish I know on occasion, mixed with an Elvis accent to lighten the mood to varied reactions. Everybody loves Elvis right? Most importantly, Elvis has left the building fat and happy. Dzienkuje, dzienkuje very much.

Kasia's is around the corner from me and it's pretty good. So good, that they have a line of pierogies selling at Costco's right now. And I buy it often, even though I moved away from here. This place has a whole bunch of fun Eastern-European delicacies as well as some really good salads for everyone. Everything is fresh and well made. There's not a ton of space for eating in here, as it is truly a deli and not a restaurant, but there are a couple of tables. Also, something I always forgot, definitely closes early on Sundays, so keep that in mind.

I had a mad craving for some polish food and I knew Kasia's would fulfill my perogi dreams! I picked up an assortment of polish favorites - potato and cheese perogi, kraut and mushroom perogi, sauerkraut with caraway seeds, stuffed cabbage, potato pancakes, potato dumplings... this feast all for $8.00. All of it was pretty tasty and definitely hot the spot.

After riding by this place on the 66 Chicago bus, I thought it looked like a fun place to check out. Upon arriving, I thought it would have more seating, but there was just one table and a pair of chairs by the front window. So don't expect to get a seat upon visiting. I grabbed a couple beef rolls for a buck each. They were nummy.

Stopping at Kasia's is a must if you're in the neighborhood. This deli boasts a wide range of traditional polish fare to include stuffed cabbage, potato pancakes and their own signature pierogies. When we walked in we grabbed a number but others seemed to misplace that tactic so it took awhile to order as some customers had pulled numbers while others just cut in front of them. Which is only the fault of the wayward customer, not Kasias. Their ticket system seems that it would work very well if everyone just grabbed a number upon entry. While I was waiting I perused the large deli cases filled with delectable fare. Ranging from crabcakes to macoroni and cheese croquettes. The service was spot on and very friendly. My friend wanted to order stuffed cabbabe and the girl behind the counter suggested she make a plate of a few different Polish staples (polish sausage, stuffed cabbage, pierogies). That was just what she had wanted and once she stated we'd be eating here the woman heated her plate up so that she could enjoy it warm. I ordered the Polish Panini and it was abundant and full of ham, hard boiled egg, cheese, and all the trimming pressed between rye bread. I ordered a side of cucumber in yogurt sauce as well. The portions were phenominal for the price. With a soda I paid just $6 for my whole meal and had some to take home. My friend ordered a soda as well and paid around the same price for her platter of food. There isn't ample seating as this is more of a pick and go kinda joint. But we made it work and will likely be back often, our experience was that good.

Compared to Polish delis on the South Side (Joe and Frank's, Bobak's), Kasia's doesn't match up. OK, but not as flavorful. For the amount of packaged Pierogis they sell, you'd think they would have more fresh options.

I drove here on a Sat morning, wanting to get some fresh food and support a local business. I bought a piece of stuffed cabbage, a 1/4 lb of cole slaw, 1/4 lb of ground beets, and 5 dozen pierogi (assorted flavors), all for just a little over $22. When I finally make it through all the food I bought, I will definitely go back.

Any time that my friends are asking me for the best Polish food in the area, this is where I send them. It really doesn't matter what you get. My advice is to purchase a quarter pound of every deli item in the building. Also, if you're interested in studying and mastering how to identify Polish facial structure, grab a seat and begin people watching. Sure, not everything behind the counter is Polish food, but it's cooked the Polish way. All the butter, cream, and fat that good food should have. And even though the quality is far superior to many of the surrounding neighborhood delis, it's still plenty cheap. Amazing mac and cheese for $1.99 per pound. The one item that I strongly urge you to get is the baked spinach pie. Sometimes, I just come in here for an assortment of goods and then I take it to my nearest kitchen-less dive bar to pair with my favorite Polish vodka. That's how to get it done. Oh, and they also have a great little patio in the warm months. By great, it's spacious and looks a bit like a cage. I've never eaten there.

Made the trip to Kasia's yesterday to stock up on pierogies for Christmas Eve dinner. I love Polish delis, all of the meats and salads are yummy. This deli was very clean and organized, the service was great, very polite and attentive. I bought pierogies, mushroom with kraut and potato with cheese, made some last night and they were very good. Also bought some Ukrainian borsch, grated beets, and herring. All were very good, the Ukrainian brosch was delicious and seasoned just right, not too salty. The place is a bit out of the way for me, however given that my neighborhood completely lacks in having a Polish deli near by, I will definitely come back here when the mood strikes me. Also, caught a glimpse of Kasia behind the counter in a big coat and huge black shades, I assume she wasn't working that day.

This place is great for a fast lunch. They have a normal deli with meats and cheeses that they will put on a sammy for you or you can take home a pound, etc.. They also have a wide array of sausages and salads ( i love the tuna salad!! ). I also like the other food items that are pre made like the 1/2 baked chicken or crab cakes. The prices here are very reasonable and def a better deal/qual then the neighboring Dominick's.

My girlfriend took my Polish butt here and made me sooooo happy. We were going to a crazy all day and night burning man party and needed food to bring with. We got delicious sandwiches, kielbasa and pickle soup. OMG it was so good and cheap. All the ravers were jealous. I dropped a star cause I remember the Kolachki sucked. But I don't think they were Kasia's but some other brand they had in stock.

Great prices and many items to choose from. The sandwiches and kielbasa sauerkraut were amazing and fresh. But the chicken noodle was bland. Surprised they didn't have more cooked pierogies or desserts. The 15 minute loading zone parking was very convenient.

We go here every week or 2 to stock up. They have a lot of meats from Andy's Deli, which used to have a location on Division and Paulina, so it's nice to be able to get a lot of the same stuff still nearby. The prepared chicken cutlets are delicious and near what I could get as a kid. We always get a couple. The kielbasa is pretty good, on par with what you would get from Gene's or Ashland Sausage. I've served it at family functions with nary a complaint. The corned beef is pretty good, too. Rivals the Onion Roll on North and Harlem for quality. Prices are not far off for what you'd pay for far less quality at a supermarket. Even though we go to Strack's or Pete's for groceries, we still make a stop here for cold cuts and the like.

Kasia's is truly a hidden treasure. My husband and I lived walking distance to there and we didn't even know it was there! It is amazingly cheap! You can send $30 bucks and feed a huge families worth and still have left overs. There soups are great, and their food from the deli is sooo good! It's always fresh! Their sausage is really good too! I love the gumpki. (SP?) okay yes I am polish and I don't know how to spell that. My favorite are the sweet cheese pierogies! You know when you go to dominicks and see the frozen "Kasia's" pierogies, this is where it comes from and you can get them FRESH here! You can get a whole 8 HUGE packages for $20 BUCKS! It doesn't get any better. They also have good sandwiches great for lunch.

Kasia's is a weekly destination for my boyfriend and myself. We stock up on the pre-packaged pierogis and just started buying the blintzes. Both are delicious and they use quality ingredients. As for the fresh deli, we love the pork cutlets. They are breaded but thankfully, not greasy at all. The cabbage rolls are just fantastic (we opt to get the sauce on the side). Very economically priced. Too bad they seem to run out of the stuffed green peppers whenever I am there, but the counter woman said to call ahead and they will have them put aside. My boyfriend loves the borscht, sour pickle and vegetable barley soups as well as the pickled pigs feet (it comes in a gelatinous goo and garlic- I'll pass). The first few times my Krakow-born, boyfriend "A" had to pull out his "Polish" which he does when there is a communication barrier- this was because we felt we got friendlier service. But since we are regulars, everyone is very friendly and helpful. Depending on the time of day, there is free parking on the immediate side street, or plenty of city supplied (re: expensive) street parking in front.

I love Kasia's. And I live for pierogies. My favorite are the sauerkraut and mushroom. They sell them prepared for only 40 cents each, and a dozen for $3. The prepared ones are a bit too buttery, but still delicious. Their crab cakes are only $2. Granted, they're mostly potato with just a hint of crab in them. But I prefer to take the optimist approach and think of them more as upscale latkes, rather than cheap crabcakes. One thing I am always a sucker for is a place that has a nice big space next to a large window, so I can clearly see all the people walking by while I eat. I can do all this here and eat a really satisfying meal for less than $5. I usually refrain from making comments about the clientele, but I feel it's necessary here. The young women who work here put up with so much crap! Every time I come in I hear senior citizens yelling at them and making sarcastic comments and being all round grumpy. And they handle it with a smile and plenty of grace. Kudos!

Best pierogies in town, and that's really saying something. As a dine-in restaurant, it's a little lacking, but as a deli it's 5 stars all the way.

They have the best White Tuna Fish Salad I have ever had besides my own. One time I did find a 50 inch strand of hair in my tuna. I brought it back and they apologized and gave me a hair free pound of Tuna. They have great pierogies too. They sell them in Jewel now but I prefer to get them from Kasia's!

I love Kasia's Deli! The prices are lower than the deli at Dominick's, and the food is much better. The deli is spacious and clean. I particularly enjoy the following items: * Roast Beef - It tastes so fresh and is thoroughly cooked (read - not pink), just like when I make a roast at home. I like it shaved both thin and thick. * Fresh Pierogies - Kasia's are known around Chicago for their frozen ones, and the fresh ones are even better (but more fatty). My favorite are the classic potato pirogues. * Spinach Pie - Although I equate this item with Greek cuisine, Kasia's makes a good spinach pie with a flaky crust that actually warms up well at home in the microwave. * Tomato Noodle Soup - This slightly creamy looking tomato soup actually has a chicken broth base. It seems pretty healthy, and a huge container is a steal at $2.99, which lasts me for two meals. In addition to serving fresh deli items, Kasia's has an array of grocery basics (milk, etc) and unique polish goods on hand, making this an easy one-stop shop. Note: $10 minimum for credit cards. I'm so glad I live within walking distance of such a wonderful neighborhood deli.

I'm a big fan of Kasia's. Another awesome deli in the area that gets my money over Dominick's anyday! They have tons of meats, I tend to get their pasta salads for a quick (and inexpensive) lunch/dinner. Definitely recommend, I haven't had a bad experience here ever.

From Eastern European descent myself, I have to say "hooray!" for Kasia's for carrying the foods I grew up with - stuffed cabbages, dill-pickle soup, cream fudge candies, etc. Don't even get me started on their beet products - holy cow, is my grandmother back in that kitchen? Anyway, here's my beef with Kasia's: the ATTITUDE. Woah - just because I don't speak Polish doesn't mean you can ignore me. The women (or should I say girls) who work behind the counter have such chips on their shoulders that it makes the Kasia's experience near unbearable. Seriously! Go at your own risk - while the food is excellent, service blows.

The girls at Kasia's are going to be pissed that I'm promoting this, but I absolutely love their turkey sandwiches. Every time I go in there and ask for one, the look on their faces is priceless...it's like, "F*ck, are you serious?" I know it takes them time to make, but it's so fresh and tasty. They use Polish rye bread; they shave the turkey as they make your sandwich; and they put lettuce, tomato, onion, mayo & mustard. It's so simple, but so delicious. Of the other items I have tried, I've had mixed experiences. I bought a couple quarts of soup to bring home once (chicken noodle and split pea), but they were not that good. The chunks of ham in the split pea were as big as the tip of my thumb, and the chicken noodle had tons of dark meat, which I don't like. I did, however, love their kolackys. There are more items to try, and I will always go back for the turkey sandwiches, even though I know they hate me for it.
