5 stars for IHOP? Yes! Food here always comes out perfectly cooked. Staff is friendly. Prices are low. They sometimes have special pancake flavors that are really good, such as tiramisu. The customers and staff here are all colors of the rainbow, black, white, young, old, gay and straight, making for a delightfully diverse dining experience. My only concern is that they have trouble with any special requests. Don't want butter on your pancakes? Your pancakes will have butter on them anyways. Want to substitute bacon for sausage? I bet you'll get sausage anyways. The cooks are like MACHINES pumping out perfect food fast, but they are on autopilot, and can't change course that well. Still one of my favorite places to eat!

The food just ok it does have quite variety . Service was ok .I was expecting to atleast get a coffee once we sat but nope! Have to wait for a while I can see some of the staff attitude so nope not coming back

I've been here multiple times but never thought to check in or write a review. It's IHOP for Pete's sake! But today my friend and I went and got some of the best service we've ever received at any restaurant. The manager and every server that crossed our path made sure we'd been attended to, and that was within the first 60 seconds in the door! Even the servers on the opposite side of the restaurant from where the manager was cleaning a table for us checked with us. The food was excellent, made perfectly. My friend ordered a side of fruit and it was different from the picture shown. He couldn't have the citrus that was in what they served. They allowed me to keep it, made him a special bowl of other fruit they did have, and didn't charge him. Thanks so much directly to the staff there for making a peaceful, fun, lighthearted day even better!

Love IHOP. Went to this one around 830 pm Saturday night. Was slow and I was greeted and seated by Megan quickly. Had the turkey avocado benne, great! The place ran out of ice tea and Megan the manager apologized and took it off my bill for the wait. Very sincere. Waited a bit for my to go pancakes and Megan made sure I left happy. She went a long way to gain my loyalty. Great manager!

Another fantastic experience! The double cheeseburger was utterly sublime! This IHOP has the best diner quality food anywhere in Chicago. if you enjoy top-notch American classic fare, you need to give this unassuming little joint a try... now!

Food is the same old food that you could expect at any IHOP but the service here is SUPERB! Everybody is super friendly! doesn't matter if its 2am, pouring rain, on a Saturday Night or 7am at the crack of dawn.. the servers are SUPER nice and SUPER hospitable. Honestly.. check it out for yourself and see. This is the nicest place on earth.

I been here so many times and I love it here! Leo was our waiter and he is awesome! We told him we just sharing so he made sure he split it up for us! The sweetest thing that ever happen to me at IHOP! I want to thank Leo for his great service!

Would not let me bring in a bottled water! Seriously, I was going to order food. Bottled water vs a meal. Will NEVER go there again.

My bf and I LOVE ihop!! This is the best location I've ever been to and Diana is our favorite server. She remembers our order and is fast and efficient, not to mention always griendly.

  • Giacomo P.

This is not the first location I tried but it's absolutely the best one! Service is fast and the waitresses are very nice with the costumers. We went two times and the waitress remembered us! The quality of the food is very good too. 5 stars!!

This was my first time at IHOP. People have told me that it's just all right, but the food was pretty delicious. I had the bacon avocado omlette with extra spinach, green peppers and onion and fruit on the side. They put effort into the presentation--the avocados were lined up in a row. I can't give this place 5 stars though because the coffee tasted very watered down. I couldn't finish it.

If you can't split the check then you should tell people rather than having us deal with it. Every time the waitress was presented with a problem she would have to ask her manager for help. I talked to the manager twice in the 45 minutes while I was there. Train your servers to problem solve and stop wasting customers time.

It's been about 15 mins and still sitting waiting for my soda refill. Tried flagging down my waiter but he's too busy taking pictures of a couple in a booth further down the restaurant. Oh wait he just walked by, darn didn't see my glass which is now at the furtherest edge of the table. Shoot. I should of gone to Clark's diner.....

  • Kirsten E.

Place was really cramped from parking to the tables. If your claustrophobic this will have you pass out on the floor! But once you have their spectacular service you will forget all about that! My server was a man by the name of Derrick, he was sweet and genuine. He didn't linger over the table and knew exactly when to stop by. I've been a server for years and trust me when I say I have a lot of personal pet peeves when getting waited on. IHOP everywhere serves great food ... I think what made this one stand out is Derrick's excellent service alone. Go Derrick!

While the pancakes were amazing as always, the veggie omelette was pretty disappointing. It was undercooked to be frank, and did not taste well. The place was nice and tidy though, and the service was very nice.

I usually go to the one in Evanston. Went to this one for a belated birthday celebration of pancakes and other assorted carbs. I'd only ever been to this one in the wee hours of the night. This time it was late afternoon. This place is always packed, isn't it? Anyway, Poowan (hope I didn't misspell her name) was the best waitress ever. I don't say that lightly. I haven't written a review in ages but came back to sing the praises of this IHOP and Waitress P. She really did make this ordinary day seem more festive than usual so that it felt like I was still celebrating my birthday. Even though it was very busy there, I didn't feel rushed. The menu items had changed and she helped me with that, too (because I'm indecisive). The quality of the food was great, better than at other IHOPs. Recommend!

  • Tiffany H.

This IHOP location is good, the first thing I noticed was how clean it was (with the exception of a dirty spoon). I thought the scrambled eggs were a bit dry and I wish my hash browns were more crispy. However, the brioche french toast was really yummy and the southern club sandwich had a really delicious sauce and the fries were nicely seasoned. The food came quick and our server was helpful but not very personable. A lot of food for under $25, we will definitely come back again!

  • Jenni F.

This is a nice enough ihop. I went for brunch on a Sunday. They seated us quickly. It's a smaller restaurant so it's harder to get around. But the food was delicious. The prices are not bad and they have you in and out quickly!

    (4)
  • Joe L.

This is exactly what you expect from a well run IHOP. It's clean, the staff are friendly, the food is decent and very fast, and the atmosphere is usually relaxed. It can get crowded at times, but going in the late night hours isn't usually a problem. Good spot!

  • Valerie M.

We walked in (party of 4) and the line was starting to get long. The hostess greeted us asap and the line was moving fast. On top of that, our waitress was SO extremely nice and helpful and the food was very delicious and filling!

It is the gay-hop. What more can I say? In the many years that I have visited this establishment, they are always consistent: 1. in the quality of their food, GREAT 2. speed and quality of their service, AWESOME 3. cleanliness, REALLY GOOD too (considering how many drunk people come in here every night) Great place to stop in for subsistence pre-bar hopping or post-festivities.

    (4)
  • Brian R.

24/7 IHOP! I was so happy when I saw the sign after partying that night. There was no wait to be seated, the people were extremely nice at 4am. I'd definitely come back. Great prices and deals for great food.

Usually I like the breakfast here but today I was really disappointed. My brother who is coeliac was visiting - we were ordering breakfast he had an omelette we made it clear to server that he was gluten intolerant and she assured is that there was no gluten in his meal. He was extremely ill soon after and turns out the omelettes contain some of the pancake batter ! They really need to educate the staff - otherwise highly recommended

  • Bonkers J.

They are shady here. I was set up for an interview and some other manager rudely called to "reschedule". She was playing games. Then I went in again and the other manager was on a "conference call". The Hostess was rude also for no reason. I don't like the environment. It seems tense and hostile behind the scenes.

This is one of my favorite restaurants to go to. It's not because of the food, IHOP food, although satisfying, is IHOP food. This place gets 5 stars for the phenomenal service. I've never been around nicer, happier people, who have to work as long and as hard as IHOP employees. I've been here at all times of the day from weekend breakfast to weekday midnight snack and the excellent service remains consistent. Does the food blow me away? No, it's fast food. But the people who work here earn every penny they make. Plus it's open 24/7 and is so close to where I live. Convenient and filled with happiness: It's what every restaurant experience should be.

  • Racquel D.

IHOP is better than Denny's any day. My friend and I go here almost religiously, that it's kind of embarrassing because the staff notices. Anyhoo, they're really nice about it and always give us awesome service.

  • Alesha B.

Not only is this the best IHOP I have EVER been to it is also becoming one of my favorite restaurants in the area for comfort food and breakfast. The wait staff really cares about their customers and it shows. Also the food is always so tasty, cooked to perfection and comes out fast. I highly recommend this Ihop and restaurant for your comfort food and especially your breakfast needs!

    just a typical IHOP.

  • Amy T.

I'm a breakfast person. And I love pancakes. I came in here for a meal and I wish they would allow customers to bring in their own drinks. They charge $2.50 for a glass of milk (I could've gotten a gallon for that price). I definitely wish the prices were a bit more fair. The service was awesome though. One of the highlights of this place. We were never left unattended so my date and I had to hold back on our conversations. A visit here is like a revisit to my memories with jack in the box for the service. POP GOES THE WEASEL.

I live several blocks from this place and can't even imagine eating here. They wake me up about once every two weeks burning the food off their grill at 5am. Seriously, the whole neighborhood smells so bad you practically have to cover your nose. And to be woken up by a smell is just awful. C'mon IHOP--stop cleaning your grills at 5am in such a way that produces a toxic smell throughout the neighborhood.

  • Crystal F.

Timothy M., Derrick was my server, too. Very upbeat and efficient. I had a wonderful breakfast for lunch--special peach pancakes with raspberry sauce with bacon, hash browns and fruit. Sure, there are trendier, farm-to-table spots in Lake View, but this is simple, hearty fare for 1/3 of the price as some of those places.

  • Adrienne T.

Honestly. Best service I've had in Chicago. Even when I came in at 2 in the morning the wait staff was quite attentive. Wish I could give this type of review to more restaurants. The dishes I've had here are pretty average but they do serve up pancakes 24 hours a day! YAY for IHOP! you are my savior for early morning cravings!

Probably the most interactive and caring staff that you could ever find in a late night breakfast and very professional staff. I was fortunate to have Swen. He rocks.

I'll 100% honest I haven't eaten here in months, but I used to frequent this spot like maybe twice a Mnth however after my last exp I haven't been back since, I had the Fried Chicken Dinner( Big Ass Mistake) First off I could tell it wasn't fresh it reminded me of my army days when we used to get that microvable Banquet Chicken in the box dry, and over cooked.. (disrespectful to fried chicken) it came with a biscuit which was also frozen and not fresh, corn,(of course frozen or from a can) And fries which were the only thing edible, It was a waste of 10 bucks it made my stomach run shortly after (TMI I know), Besides all of that I gotta say that IHOPs Menu on the dinner/lunch side is pretty boring and lacks creativity. I will say that the waitstaff is awesome from past visits but that still doesn't make up for the weak food and poor execution of it, In other words you should probably stick to breakfast if you're going here.

  • Robert S.

How can anyone possibly dis IHOP. Well, it's pretty easy actually, if you go in not knowing this is a couple notches lower than Denny's. Good food, pleasant service. I always over-order here, and the country friend steak (my only reason for treking here) is tasty and hearty enough. Tip: this is a relatively small location, so if you want a table instead of the smallish booths, they can seat you in the back where there are plenty of tables.

  • Timothy M.

This is by far the best ihop I've ever visited. The food is good and comes out quickly. The service is always friendly and efficient. During my most recent visit I had the pleasure of having Darrick as my server. He's fantastic. Polite, fast and just great. Thank you for being a part of my community, ihop!

I hadn't eaten here in over 10 years. I stopped in today and it was a huge improvement since the last time. the service was excellent, I was seated right away and the food, i had peach crepes and an iced coffee,it was delicious. They should really repair those torn seats, though. Not appealing at all.

Once you get over the fact that you're at IHOP, you notice that the service is fantastic! You can tell right away that the waitstaff works well together, and they're extremely happy to get you whatever you need. Super friendly, without being fake or annoying. I think they do a great job with what they're working with. I've seen some of the customers they get in that place, and kudos to them! They greet everyone with a smile and turn a bad mood into a happy smile. Great starr

  • Brandon V.

The GAYHOP! As many other reviewers have said, this is without a doubt the friendliest Ihop you'll ever visit. I have never had anything short of remarkable, friendly, smiling service in this restaurant. Who says gay guys are snarky, condescending, and cold? Well, I do most of the time, but that definitely isn't the case here. The food isn't half bad either, whether you're having breakfast because you just got up, or because you haven't been to bed yet.

  • Louise G.

Great location, great value, great service. This is a 'can't be beat' place to grab a hearty breakfast at a very reasonable price with good service.

    (5)
  • Thomas H.

IHOP is well, IHOP in terms of the quality of the food. You can probably get a tastier elsewhere, but this place, hands down has the most courteous wait staff. I don't know why, but I go here often and I rarely see the same waiter/waitress again, but every time I've been served, it's been a pleasurable experience. Maybe this is where polite waiter/resses go to practice and then move up the industry ladder. No clue. But aside from the excellent service, the food is decent. Again, not the best, not the worst, but it gets the job done.

  • Marina G.

I love this place. Like LOVE it. Been here a few times for a leisurely breakfast/lunch and have had great service with awesome food (it's IHOP - how can it be bad?!) But this place really shines in the middle of the night after a heavy night of drinking. It's pretty much better than going to a bar in the first place. Great servers who have a high tolerance for drunken debauchery and the ability to eat breakfast food all day with the best company? Yes please.

  • Rick M.

I'm used to writing huge yelp reviews, but I'm going to keep this one straight to the point. I LOVE THIS IHOP. It is amazing and convenient (because I live nearby). Great food and incredible service. Not to mention...24 hours!!!!! The servers are always happy and super friendly and my favorite is Courtney (who even wrote a get well note on our take-out when we had the flu). I would never give the Gayhop any less than 5 stars.

  • Edward L.

I go here every 2 months and the staff is consistently awesome! The place is always clean, especially the bathrooms. The food is great and is made to order.

I swear, I think they put CRACK in the pancakes, and SURE know how to scramble some fluffy eggs! My "usual" is the 3 eggs and pancakes, scrambled with American cheese, and almost every time I visit Wrigleyville, that breakfast is CALLING me! lol. On top of that, it's clean (even the toilet and around the faucets) and the service is fabulous. The servers are always friendly and warm; may even stop for a small convo and a few jokes if it's slow :) Definitely get some (crack) pancakes from here

    (5)
  • Arlene A.

Clearly not the place to go sober. This place seems to be in disarray even during the daytime. This place could use a complete overhaul. A/C doesn't work properly, bathrooms are ratty etc. I swear even the pancakes are sad to be here.

I've been to IHOP maybe a hundred times in my remarkable life (in HS and college we'd go to IHOP or Denny's late at night to talk, get junk food after hitting the parties or bar, or to cram for exams) and this location just twice. Each time my companions and I wanted to go to Ann Sather's, but were too lazy or indifferent to walk or drive. The first time was the morning after Halloween and was a lollercaust. Nothing better than seeing a restaurant full of hungover, costumed patrons; especially the 6'5 drag queen rockin' 10 inch platforms and fright wig and buff boys in bondage gear and body glitter with peacoats haphazardly thrown on, and raising our coffee cups and winking in salute to one another out of our respective fabulousness and recognition of each other's previous debauchery. Both visits we were sat at the same booth (curious). And both times we had the same server who demonstrated an extreme charm and an artful skill, only comparable to that I've experienced at Froggy's or Le Francais. One companion (a longtime fine dining server) and I were puzzled and pleased. 404 error. Does not compute. Now, don't misunderstand me. We were satisfied, yet mystified, as she seemed too talented for IHOP and we tipped her 50 percent. I wish I remembered her name. But, she has an auburn bob and cute, perpetual grin. Each time I got my standby; Rooty Tooty Fresh and Fruity and coffee. Everything tasted good for the price. The bacon was crispy, like I requested, the hot cakes and eggs fair. Moreover, I like that every IHOP has coffee and orange juice carafes. It makes the patrons happy and saves the server's time on fetching refills. Even I am baffled by my pleasurable experiences here; but when it's a cheap dive and you get good service and your meal is at least satisfactory, should you really ask for more? Can a chain greasy spoon exceed expectations and provide bang for your buck? Food for thought.

Another local hangout of mine. After a night of clubbing whats better than hanging out at the local pancake house. They serve breakfast all day and also have non-breakfasty items as well. Also there is parking!

  • KuangYou C.

It is a famous American style chain store but it was my first time to dine in here. I had a Garden Stuffed Crepes. It was good, especially the wrapper. However, unlike most brunch restaurants, they only gave me those two crepes, no chopped potatoes or fruit. But I can't ask more with the low price. And they indeed provide some pretty decent food!

I am a big fan of IHOP. It is usually not my first choice for eating, however, there are some mornings (usually weekends) when I really really want to go there. The service is 100% of the time is great. Avoid going late Sunday morning because there is usually a crowd (after church). I have only eaten breakfast there and it always hits the spot! It is usually the breakfast sampler or the chicken fried steak for me. Yum! It is pretty inexpensive too.

GAYHOP is the finish line after a night of drinking and "ho-ing" around in boystown. It's sort of like the final paragraph in a 5 paragraph essay - "After a night of excursions in Chicago's Boystown, we head to IHOP to summarize our day and soak up our alcohol-laden bodies. We see the leather bear from Bucks sitting with the silver daddies enjoying a short stack of pancakes with bacon. Across from them is the attractive security guard from Spin sitting with Drag Queens sharing two orders of Chicken tenders (those cheap skinny bitches). Finally, I am greeted with a Denver omelette and a very familiar waiter. I think he might be the stripper from the Lucky Horseshoe where we first started." Yup, it's pretty much like that.

Did I just give IHOP 5 stars? Why yes, yes I did. The earliest I can remember coming here was about 6 years ago when my friends and I would get drunk and want food. This is also when the west side of the restaurant was smoking. HOW I LOVE THAT RESTAURANTS ARE SMOKE-FREE. Sorry, back to the review. I started coming every now and then when I wanted some food....sober. I have ALWAYS had a great server. ALWAYS. The last time I came was around 6:45am after I had to drop my mom off somewhere and was waiting for my boyfriend to call me on his way to work. I plopped myself down with my Red Eye all ready to do the crosswords when I realized I had no writing utensil. One of the guys happily gave me his pen (which I returned upon leaving) and I had a tasty meal while doing the crosswords over the phone with my boyfriend at 6:45am. My server was on top of everything, and don't think this place wasn't busy. It wasn't crowded like it is after the bars close, but the seats were filling up. The food is better than other chains (ahem...Golden anything), but the service is the reason I choose this location even though there's one MUCH closer to my house.

We had a friggen great meal with excellent service. (We left Swen, our waiter, a 40% tip he was that great.) Their eggs tasted like they had crack in them. They were some of the best scrambled eggs anyone at our table had ever eaten. (No we were not high or drunk.) The french toast was great too. I love supporting local diners but the next time I am craving breakfast food, I am running back to this iHop instead. I have eaten at many other iHops but this one was unexpectedly fantastic. My only 2 complaints: 1. They don't serve grits because the 'boyz in boyz town don't like too many carbs.' Shame on you boyz. Grits are great. 2. When we asked our waiter what made the eggs taste like magic, he said they put pancake batter in them. Nice little secret, though I feel badly for anyone who has a wheat allergy and thinks they are just getting eggs.

came here during the parade last sunday & it was super crowded! however, we still got great service and our food was brought out in a timely manner. the food is what u expect for ihop so i wasnt expecting anythin spectacular. i ordered a blt samich & some fruit. the samich was good but the fruit was not that sweet. i just needed a quick bite 2 eat before heading back out into the crowd so i guess it wasn't so bad.

I feel a little weird giving an IHOP five stars but you know what? They totally deserve it. And I love that everyone calls it Gayhop. Too cute. Tonight was my first time stopping in - I'd just gotten off work at midnight and felt like walking home to Lincoln Park from Irving Park Road (yes, in the snow). As I was trudging south, like a beacon in the night, the familiar red, white and blue logo beckoned. How could I refuse? I couldn't. So I didn't. Next thing I knew, I was seated at my own, little booth - the place was busy but I didn't have to wait (bonus!). I'm really just going to echo what others have said. The place was cozy, my server was an absolute doll and my food (stuffed french toast, YUM) arrived quickly. All to the tune of $11 (beverage and tax included)?? Why thank you, don't mind if I do! Oh, Gayhop. I'm so happy I found you. National Pancake Day on March 1? It's a date, my love. See you then!

If I could give it less than 1 star I would...the food is mediocre in an area of town with tons of options...the servers really are good but the management just doesn't get the meaning of customer service! They instruct servers to over charge for things and not give you the required items etc...I will not be back this this IHOP ever again and likely not any IHOP!

  • Kristy D.

I wish I could give this restaurant more stars!! I have not one time stepped into this restaurant and received bad service or bad food. In fact, it is my ALL TIME favorite breakfast restaurant in the Lakeview area!! The food is very good, very plentiful and at a great price! What makes this restaurant stand out above all the rest is the staff. From the manager down, the staff makes you feel like a family member!! You are always greeted with a smile and a warm and caring attitude! Have to end this review right now because I have made myself hungry for a pancake!!

  • David Y.

I love this place. I love that its the GAYHOP. Thats so funny, I just read that for the first time today. The servers are the nicest in the world here and I have never had a bad experience. It is your typical IHOP, so I will not write anything about that. Just good breakfast food and espcially late night after a night of drinking. Also, 24 hours. I saw a lot of people here on Thanksgiving while walking down to Wholefoods, I thought that was sad. Anyways...

I work right across the street from this IHOP so unfortunately my coworkers and I have ventured here a few times. Every time someone suggests we should go here, my stomach drops. The grease filled omelets and fat, doughy pancakes are not worth the hop skip and a jump to get into the front door. I'm not even going to go there with the lunch menu items. If you want a delicious, fresh lunch option in the area, Taco Burrito House down the street is where its at!

  • Luci D.

Fast, friendly service (ask for Irina). Food delivered quickly, and hot. LOVE that they didn't charge me for milk (for my coffee) like some other chains do. Irina let me take my time, was attentive but not disruptive, and treated me just like any other table even though I was a one-top. Will head here now for midnight pancake cravings instead of a certain Nugget much closer to me.

The food and service were IHOP quality, but I enjoy IHOP for what it is so that's not why I've giving them one star. One star is for their shitty customer service, and the shady lost and found policy that seems to apply only at this location. I carelessly left a pair of nice, white wedding gloves (part of a costume) at this location late one evening. I called the next day to see if they were there, and was told the gloves were picked up but the gentleman on the phone didn't see them. When I called the following day the Manager I spoke to informed me they keep lost and found items for three days, after which time the items are thrown out. When I told him I called the day after my gloves were lost, he said my call was never received (pretty sure it was, since I talked to someone) and was told, "Mmmm, I don't know, maybe they were thrown away." I called another IHOP to confirm this Lost & Found policy, but was told it's company policy to keep Lost & Found items for at least 30 days. While I understand I should've been more careful with my belongings and recognize that the more realistic situation is that someone probably took them home, I was still shocked with the remarkably disingenuous way the Manager I spoke to handled the situation. Long story short, make sure you don't mistakenly forget something at this IHOP. But if you do, don't expect to get your belongings back or for them to handle the situation in a polite, professional manner.

It's an I-Hop. Who doesn't love a good I-Hop breakfast? Well - who doesn't who loves that kind of food. I would give it four stars but for my tale of woe.... TALE OF WOE I came with my two kids while my husband was "away" for six months. Haha not prison. Anyway. I was basically a frazzled single working mother of two smallies and couldn't face breakfast that morning. Well we ate, I was happy, the kids were happy, I even got to speak to a few grown-ups - "two and a high-chair", "coffee please". It was all going so well. Then the bill came. Oh sh&% - where's my wallet. Flustered mom - becomes flustered again. How embarrassing is that. I tried to give them my watch until I returned (not the fanciest I'll admit) but they didn't take it. I brought them back the money (with large tip). I wanted to hug them for being so nice but then I would have gone from frazzled mom to psycho mom and the cop station is just down the road. Instead I went to my car and cried some more! ahhh

Stopped here for breakfast and had an extremely nice server. The food was to be expected for an IHOP and tasted great. The only negative I can say is that the restaurant could use a bit of updating. The booth we were sitting in had holes and could use some TLC.

Any place that feeds me after (or during) a night of drinking is good in my book. I can't comment on the quality of the food because everything tastes the same after a couple of Jamesons. But the staff was friendly and our waitress was able to put up with our barrage of inappropriate dick jokes. The food comes out super quick as well, which is good because the alcohol in my tummy was getting hungry.

After a drunken Prince Night at Berlin, I was treated to the glory that is GayHOP. I walked in blathering something about a special room, and the hostess told me I could use the "F**k yourself room." I was in heaven! My best friend and I sat down to wait for the rest of our crew. When they arrived, another part of our party had a table on the other side of the restaurant. IHOP let us KEEP OUR SERVER and move to the other side of the restaurant -- awesome because our server, Shell, was the best in the world. The food was delicious and hot. We spent nearly three hours being loud idiots and were only met with kindness, patience and great service. I love you, GayHOP.

15 minutes to get a menu then another 30 minutes to get food? Really? I had 2 bad experiences and stopped going to this IHOP so thought I'd give it another try. Nookies is open 24 hours on the weekend and they make all their food fresh and don't warm things up from a vacuum package!! OK IHOP has a parking lot and that is convenient, but who has time for all the drama! Not going back again! Too bad . Used to be a great place.

I love this place. I live a few blocks away so I'm a regular customer. What can i say? I hate cooking! It's great to have a place to go at 2am where I know I can get great food and great service. The service is phenomenal. They always greet me with smiles and never take too long to come around. They are also fast on the refills. The food never disappoints either. I'm a big fan of the Pancake Platter (short stack with bacon or sausage) and the Quick 2 Egg Breakfast (2 eggs, hash browns, toast, and choice of bacon or sausage). I never spend over 15 dollars in there. Also, the fact that this place has a parking lot is a plus for a lot of people! One final note for people watchers - this gets pretty fun! I usually just pop in there on my own so I can't help but watch others and listen to their conversations! Very entertaining!

Check out their special menu - the Jack cheddar bacon loaded potatoes is sooo good but probably too good taste-wise that it's probably not good health-wise. But then again, who goes to IHOP for healthy eating right? Their pancakes are decent but somehow I think that these are not made fresh because they are all perfectly the same shape and size. Cheap good and filling food. It does not disappoint.

It's IHOP... so you don't expect too much, well at least thats what I think when I think of IHOP.... BUT let me tell you, the staff here is AWESOME, super friendly, hip, and fun! They want to make conversation with you and are super friendly, I like that a lot! Thanks you guys for showing Chicago that chains can also set high standards for customer service, you guys ROCK!

this ihop has entertainment at its finest...go there after the bars close and ull see why on any day at any time ur gonna wait in line to be seated...but its worth it (they also offer carryout) the service is quick and always with a smile...or a joke or a smirk food comes up quick and just what ur stomach ordered after a nite out to prevent/cure that hangover i prefer to go here late nite or late late nite to hit that perfect mix between wrigleyvillers and boystowners...its like a party in there i tell ya what ;)

Of course, the food at I-Hop is decent, not great. And their overpriced fruit side includes melons, which are all too often dried out and not fun. However, the atmosphere here is excellent! I ate here recently and really appreciated the kind service. Despite that I looked like a wreck everyone was very pleasent toward me. My waitress (I think her name was Bella? Or Belle?) was very helpful and thoughtful.

Any place that doesn't close...is nasty. But its an IHOP, who cares! This is the local IHOP and i LOVE the fact that it is right next to boystown. That being said, you are insured to have great and friendly service. If you are unlikely enough to get the "ghetto" workers, I'm sorry. Try for a "boystown" server next time. You can never get enough of IHOP. Open all the time, you can get breakfast any time of the day, and its cheap. Regardless of the fact that your one meal will contain your daily caloric intake need, its still amazing. Their take-out is quick and just as good as if you were to eat in. Don't try and come here on Sundays, you will be waiting forever. Also, parking is VERY limited so if you driving, come early. Although i'm not sure how you can "come early" when its open 24/7. You be the judge of that.

I visit regularly. The staff is up spirited and congenial. Vicky the manager is very sweet and concerned about how your meal & experience was. The food is both good & consistant. They are open 24 hours. The crowd varies but it's usualy interesting. I've always enjoyed myself... Any questions about this revue I can be reached @ caninecitysurvival.com Ken Henry

STAY AWAY FAR AWAY This place is filthy and disgusting. Syrup stuck to the seats. The waitress charged my sister an extra $5 because she said she wanted regular sized pancakes instead of the little silver dollar sized cakes IHOP has resorted to, to cut costs. The waitress was so dumb, after she took all of our orders she came back to the table 6 minutes later to verify. WTF! She gave some song and dance about how she was having a hard time because she just had a baby. Since when does a baby affect your brain? The manager was called because of the extra charge and she was a total B****. Some hispanic lady. We left exact change down to the penny. Not a single tip. Take that you crummy IHOP!

As a former DePaul student I was always looking for a late night breakfast restaurant. Now let me tell you... I LOVE BREAKFAST and critique the breakfast restaurants I visit. I've been to many IHOPs and lets be honest... some of them just suck! The food is nasty or the service is horrible. I've been to THIS IHOP location so many times that I've lost count. I LOVE THIS PLACE. They must do something different to the food here than other IHOPS because the food is ALWAYS amazing. There has not been a single time where I've been disappointed... seriously. Sometimes you need to display some patience with the crowd that comes in but bring good company, be open to seeing different types of people, and most importantly relax and enjoy your food. The managers are ALWAYS present and you can actually build a good relationship with them. Some of the servers are HILARIOUS too. Just don't be snobby and honestly.... appreciate how hard their jobs can be and how many stupid people they encounter on a daily basis. Parking isn't too difficult. There has only been one time that I had to park outside of the parking lot. I strongly recommend this place for those who love and appreciate breakfast food, have an appreciation for diversity, and possess some level of patience.

First time I went to this IHOP it was around 3am at night but man was it crowded! its always crowded but always cozy too. it was my bday and our waitress brought us complimentary ice cream topped with whipped cream and a lighted candle. it was a good gesture. its cheap and its 24 hours open so you can have ur pancakes fix even at 3am at night not to mention at a veryy cheap price!

There have been several I.H..O.P.S. at this location, but this one is successful because they have a great waitstaff. I don't care if it's GayHOp, for heterosexual women appreciate warm and prompt service too. Kudos to Chad, you're wonderful,

A complete horror show! I'd have taken the long wait any day in exchange of our experience here. The meal was subpar but looked clean enough until we found a small strip of plastic like scotch tape nestled among the steamed vegetables. Totally turned us off our meal and had everyone shoving their plates away in disgust. Moments later, we found a strand of hair in the salad - an experience that had my friend running out of the restaurant and throwing up in the parking lot. Furious and horrified, we showed it to our waitress and the manager apologized profusely and deducted 15% from our bill. Doesn't change the fact that most of us were up until 5am this morning, unable to sleep from painful iHop-induced stomach cramps. Would have made a bigger scene except that our server was really nice and attentive and knew it wasn't within her control but I can't believe this place is allowed to serve people food. I'm all for greasy spoon diners but if you want pancakes with a possible side of salmonella, then you've come to the right place.

There are some restaurants I've just never felt compelled to write a review of - IHOP being one of them until today. But after a long hiatus, I returned to IHOP for "Free Pancake Day." My shocking revelation was the following: the pancakes at IHOP are way better than any of the fancy schmancy brunch places around the city. The perfect amount of butter, the warm syrup, the delightful fluffiness. These were some damn good pancakes. How had I not realized this earlier in life? Maybe I was just taking IHOP for granted all these years. Though the bacon is pretty awful (which is a big problem, in my book), the hash browns are good and I appreciate all of the flavored syrups and the fact they serve Tropicana OJ. And the waiters...SO NICE! If this place was BYOB (bring your own bacon) I'd come back more often...

I'm a stubborn person and when I came to Chicago, I was determined that this IHOP wouldn't match up to the IHOP I normally went to in NC. Well, I really like this place. The wait staff is consistently friendly and the food is good considering where you're eating. If you want 4-star food, go somewhere that makes it and charges that much for it. You get what you pay for here when it comes to the food. The only real complaint I have about this place is the bathrooms. Twice now while I've been there, I've needed to use the restroom, but at all times, someone was occupying it. I guess I just kept missing when one person would leave and another would enter. I didn't feel like standing outside the door. I'm also a bit more used to things in NC being more spacious. This location seems cramped to me cause I've been to ones where the booths aren't packed right on one another.

Yes it's a chain but for those of you who take this place for granted, well bite me. This place has the friendliest staff ever and it's in a classic location. Oh I almost forgot the service at 3 a.m. is aweeeeesooooome as well.

    (4)
  • Beth F.

Call me crazy, but I like the IHOP. Normally I'm the girl who will do everything in her power to avoid chain diner breakfasts from places like Perkin's and Denny's, but if someone suggests IHOP? I'm all for it. I have been to the IHOP at 7:30 in the morning with my parents. I've been here at 10 p.m. after wandering the streets drunk all day during the PRIDE parade. And one time I came here at 5:30 in the morning after I'd been to a scary warehouse party somewhere on the south side. And you know what the common denominator was, no matter the time of day? The food was good, hot and hit the spot. And the servers here are fast. In and out. That's one of the only good things about chains--they've mastered the churn and burn method of food service. But at least at IHOP they do it with a smile and you don't leave feeling like you just got ripped off.

  • Nicole C.

I have been to some gross IHOPs in my time, this one however- surprised me. The service was friendly, and not creepy, and the place was packed on a Friday afternoon. As far as the food goes, it was good! It was fairly fast coming out as well, even with the place packed full, and people waiting for tables. Also a great place to people watch. It may be the area, but the man talking to himself with his shirt tucked into his underwear really made my day. Thanks IHOP.

    (4)
  • Terris A.

Not a fan whatsoever. Its I HOP, so its a chain so you are missing all of the "homey" feeling. Worse is that the staff are just "out of it". The only thing good was the woman that offered us coffee as we were waiting- too bad she forgot that she offered us the coffee and that we had to remind her. Oh well- thank goodness there are so many good breakfast places in Chicago and we don't have to stoop so low (only when we don't want to walk too far away from home!)

IHop UHop WeHop What can I say it is IHop. This place is a breakfast lover's dream. The staff here is top of the line and always make my niece who is a afraid to talk to strangers open up and claim this as her favorite place in the city (next to Orange on Harrison). The rare time there might be something amiss wit the order they go above and beyond to fix it and make the service they give for the rest of the visit that much better.... Again though it is IHop. I was biased before I ever even met the staff. If the 6 kinds of syrup on the table and the Tutti Frutti haven't won you over by now you have must lived sad colorless life...It's IHop give it a try....bet the place makes you smile...

Yes it's IHOP and if you've eaten at one you know what to expect at every other one. But you don't go to this IHOP for the food, you go for the atmosphere. Everyone is always so friendly (staff and patrons) that even if you're in a bad mood it won't last for long once your inside. A group of us go here so frequently that if we go and someone is missing the staff will ask about them!! The best time to go is on the weekend around 2-3 a.m. when people are starting to leave the bars....great people watching time!! Have fun!

I'm not afraid to go against the grain, and this is one of those times. I thought it was really good! We went here last night because it was the closest place open at 11pm for dinner and one can only eat so much pizza. I haven't been to this location in years, and that was a post-drinking food binge. This visit was evidently a great time to go: it wasn't crowded, so the service and food were good because no one was rushing as it wasn't mobbed in there. I wasn't expecting much, to be quite honest, but I had a ham, egg, and cheese sandwich that hit the spot. My girlfriend said she thinks their portions have gotten bigger since she was an IHOPPER back in high school. When was the last time you heard about a place increasing the size of their portions? I'll be back, but definitely at the off-peak times.

  • Matt H.

I was there last night / this morning and it reminded me of a blog post I wrote when I went there back in February... since then I discovered Horizon Cafe which is way better when it's open. IHOP still rules at 3am though. Here's the story from last time: "Once more our friends here in the US give us a terrifying vision of our own future. Since a typical drinker requires a fried breakfast some 6-12 hours after finishing their binge, most greasy spoons back home open around 6am to catch the early birds who got on it too fast and had to be dragged home by a frustrated girlfriend before 10:30pm the previous night. As 24 hour licensing becomes more common, a binge could feasibly start and end at any time of the day and hence it will be necessary for breakfast spots to stay open all day and night as well. But what might such a place look like? Enter IHOP (International House of Pancakes), America's premier breakfast chain. The name, like that of the World Series, is somewhat misleading and refers not to the panoply of worldwide pikelet innovation but simply to American pancakes of marginally different diameters, e.g. smaller ("Swedish") and larger ("German"). Also, more than half of the menu discusses different fry-ups, omlettes and skillets, so the pancakes are a bit thin on the ground too. Still, it's cheap, open all night, and right by my place, so I'll let them off. So what happens when kebab-shop clientele collides with the all-American breakfast diner restaurant concept? I was lucky enough to find out early this morning, when two friends and I braved the wintry mix accumulation to drop in to the Lakeview IHOP. We were seated quickly by Joshua, a diminuitive yet suprisingly sunny individual who seemed completely unfazed by the fact that two of the party were barely able to stand and one was already giggling uncontrollably. At this point it was noticed that much of the restaurant was taken up by several drag queens and their accompanying entourage, who were no doubt taking advantage of IHOP's extensive and hilarious Healthy Choice menu (the highlight of which is a low carb offering featuring, count 'em, FOUR fried eggs). Despite my desperate pleas for him to avoid interaction with anyone other than our server Joshua, one of my breakfast buddies was determined to learn more about this group, and on a trip to the gents he got his wish. Unfortunately his incoherent description of a character calling himself DJ 'Flip' Lopez and a conversation about aliens is best consigned to the blue bag of forgotten drunken memories. Soon Joshua was back, and seemed more than happy to translate our random grunts and gestures into real-world menu items. I think this could be one of the stumbling blocks that would prevent IHOP ever taking a foothold as a 24-hour breakfast provider in the UK - our waiting staff are generally far too surly to accept this kind of crap from their customers. The idea of one of the folks at the Station Caff taking an order for a "egg, spinach and mushroom omlette, without any spinach" with a smile is rather difficult to accept. Perhaps the reason he was so happy to put up with the performing chimps on my table was the fact that the customers on his other tables were at that point being rounded up by several police after a disagreement over the bill. "It's the fourth time we've had the cops round tonight," he explained. As I left to a scene straight out of Reno 911, the restaurant surrounded by cop cars as the boys in blue attempted to extract the $10 still owed to Joshua by the drag queens, I decided that 24-hour breakfasts are unlikey to grace Britain's shores any time soon. For now, the Kebab remains king." Speaking of which, Windy City Gyros up the road is pretty good bet in the early hours.

Only thing open on Thanksgiving, so I went here with a sigh to treat my visiting friend to something more than my (stellar, but under-appreciated) scrambled eggs. The experience was of the type that makes me heart people and want to spread good cheer to the world. The food was what it is, hearty, salty, filling, etc. The service....I was convinced that the waitstaff and kitchen would bust out brooms and frying pans and burst into song at any minute - they were so smiley and happy and chattey - and I swear their movements down that narrow aisle were choreographed. Bonus point - they did not have the grapefruit juice that I originally wanted, but as we were finishing up, and our waiter was unpacking new food deliveries, he saw a can of grapefruit juice and waltzed over to offer some to me - ergo - nice, helpful people exist in the world!

Perhaps we expect too much. We trust high-end restaurants to excel all across the culinary stratosphere because they have resident chefs who were trained in established schools. Yet, the average American eatery probably has one or two minimum-wage grill men ... and overworked at that. I have eaten the breakfast signature dishes at IHOP's before and they were palatable and satisfying. On this visit, however, I asked the server for a dinner menu and she handed me three menus. Studying the menus takes time but she kept reappearing every 10 seconds, asking if I was ready to order. I finally decided on the sirloin tips with mashed potatoes, corn, and a caesar salad. The salad arrived all heaped up on an undersized, flat, glass plate, making it difficult to pour the bleu cheese dressing on without it running over. The sirloin tips were of uneven consistency: one piece was tender and delicious, two were harder, and the rest were so tough I couldn't stick my fork into them. It took a massive amount of molarization to force them into submission. As per usual, the hovering staff was friendly and attentive, and I have no quibble in that area, but the sirloin meal was a big disappointment. No doubt I'll be visiting again, but I'll be sticking with the tried and true breakfast items.

This is the Jekyll and Hyde of all IHOPS. Daytime: it's a regular old IHOP visited by all types of people from the area. It's fast, not 100% clean and just plain cheap. Nothing spectacular but it's not horrible food. It's IHOP. You know what you're getting. Anytime after 1:00 AM: it's like the after party when the bars close. I don't know how the waitstaff handle the night time crowd but I'd start with a few kicks to the head. Maybe that's why I'll never work at IHOP. It's rowdy, loud and full of drunks. They don't seem to kick anyone out, or at least I've never seen it happen. It's been funny, scary, annoying and hilarious all at the same time. Same service, same food, same prices. It's just a whole different atmosphere.

i feel like Ihop is a pretty w.e place to eat breakfast. at least when i go, i dont expect much. but this IHOP changed the way i think about this chain. the staff is so friendly and attentive its almost odd. another thing is their presentation... this may sound weird but they really focus on details and everything ive ever ordered looks exactly like it does in the menu. when the hell does that ever happen? the food is always great and they actually really deserve the 5 stars. i always leave completely satisfied (and i most definitely cant say that about other IHOP's)

    (5)
  • Bridget L.

Yes, this is an IHOP, but it's really, really great. It's small, and usually crowded on the weekends, but the service is always exceptional. I wish all chain restaurants were this good. Whenever we're in there, we don't feel like we're in a chain at all. The food is good, it's open 24 hours, and it has a huge parking lot in Lake View. It's a perfect, pancake house for a city girl like me. You can't go wrong with this little gem.

  • Michael K.

I'm giving this place two stars because we all know of better breakfast places than IHOP, so that should be warning enough. This location is in a shady part of town but they do have a parking lot. I ordered the country omelette with a side of pancakes. I was half way into eating my pancakes with the syrups on the table when I realized the food had come with warm syrup. Kind of annoying. I wish the server would have at least said something. The food reminded me of dorm food. I've ordered this specific dish at other IHOP's around the country and this has been one of the worst. To top it off, there was a screaming kid sitting right behind me.

I have eaten here many times (late night) only a couple times sober and what a disappointment (especially when sober)... Having said that... Today I flew in from working in Cincinnati met with my friend for brunch at Bongo (review coming soon) then went to my gym for a massage (awesome FFC Halsted miss Mika you rock!) I was walking with my bag still having not been home since landing, and before I got to the 151 I had the urge to use the bathroom (a stand up deal) and I figured I have eaten at the IHOP more times then I can count and always tip huge and bring cheer... Anyway it was 330ish maybe 4pm and the restaurant had literally 1 table occupied and the rest empty; I walked in the door and asked if I may use the bathroom and the manager asked with attitude will you be dining inn the restaurant, I said not this time and he said the bathroom is for paying customers only! I lamented the fact that I had eating there 100s of times and he said not this time... I told him I would never dine there again (and I wont... If its late night or not I will find a better place and everyone else should too!) So I went across the street and used the bathroom at Starbucks where they have the corporate attitude and policy that no matter who you are, you may use the bathroom no questions asked! Maybe you will buy something maybe you wont! I used to own a high end gallery several years back the items ranged from 500 dollars to 50 thousand dollars for each piece, guess what all were welcome to use my bathroom not only would the homeless people use my bathroom for obvious bio functions they might even sponge bath in there as well and you know what thats great! Humanity needs to embrace empathy and respect for one another! If a business or individual thinks it appropriate to deprive another human being from using the bathroom when in need, they are stripping them of their dignity and they should be overflowing with shame! How dare anyone turn a fellow human away when in need of facilities! I am sorry to rant I am not sure if it is IHOPS corporate policy to strip dignity from human beings with restrictive bathroom policies but it is obviously the policy of this particular IHOP and that particular manager... Shame Shame Shame!

Others before me have have said it as well. This is the place to be after a night on boystown (if not on the boys). It was just such a night this past Sunday. My partner and I stopped there on way home. The food is standard IHOP fare and the service was as fastidious as usual. The 5th star? Well, in my less-than-100%-sober state, I managed to leave my wallet with a fair amount of cash at the table (on, under or at least near). The next day we received a call that my wallet was found. I believe all the cash was there. They wouldn't take a reward. IHOP - Boystown will continue to be my dining choice after an avening of debauchery.

Great diner here. The waiter I had was seriously a good waiter. He was probably a better server than like half the waiters I've had in actual non-diner restaurants. Their "light" menu has good options, and it beats the hell out of Denny's. Plus they have a parking lot!

The GAYHOP :) This is the best IHOP. The servers are way nice (Jose and Viddy rule), and the food is consistent. I also love that they will put melty cheese in my eggs. I love how this one has parking so it is easy and I don't get a migrane driving in circles. As Nico said...the hashbrowns are never cooked enough so I just ask for them a bit crispy and the problem is solved. For 3 a.m. food this is my place.

The boyfriend and I make it to this particular IHOP about twice a month for breakfast only. Weekends are a zoo, but the service is always good regardless of how busy they are. There is a wait, but it never seems to be as long as we're quoted. Yes, IHOPs are pretty much all alike, but this one is better somehow. I suppose if you're a gay guy, it would be the best ever! But anyway, it's clean, good service, good food, really -- no disappointments.

IHOP, or GAYHOP as us 'Mo's refer to it, is the quintisential after bar dining place! Whats better than drinking away your ability to do math, then going for some pancakes and bacon at 4am? Nothing! If you are gay or have ever been to boystown, i'm sure you call this home on any late night out.

I have had some of the worst food of my life in IHOP's at various locations and expected this instance to be no different, but was pleasantly surprised. Swen, our waiter, was exceptionally patient and polite. He thoroughly explained all the options associated with my dinning companion's meal choice, including an accurate and detailed description of hollandaise sauce. I had the chicken and spinach crepes and couldn't have been more satisfied. The temperature in the dining area was meat locker-esque and as legally required after 2am contained a few drunks. As far as IHOP's rate this location must be at the top of the heap. Sit in Swen's section he is a real pro.

I came here with my friend from Norway at 3:00 in the morning, she was smoking a cigar outside in the snow; then we sat inside and had coffee and shared a pie ala mode and watched all the weirdos come in and out. Great times...

IHop is cool. never really had any problems with service etc. When I want breakfast though it is not my first choice. Their eggs always taste weird to me?? Anyone else notice that? One of myy friends noticed too, and it never seems like their hashbrowns are toasty enough or something. However it is a great place to go after dancing all night at 4am.

It's a chain restaurant so the food is basically the same all around but their breakfast specials are great and the service is pretty good, quick, friendly and efficient here. Plus, this place is open 24-7

This is my favorite IHOP in all Chicagoland. Not that I have been to every IHOP in Chicago but you know what I mean. Great service, great people watching and it's open 24/7. Definitely the place to go in boystown after a night at the clubs.

This is my favorite IHOP of all time. The service is pretty good and so funny. There is always a really fun vibe here, which you dont find at other breakfast places. Such a great way to start my weekend days

I agree with Jennifer L. The worst IHOP I've ever been. I used to be a big fan of IHOP when I lived out in a corn field mainly because it was the only 24 hr place in town. Even an IHOP in a hick town has better tasting food than the one on Halsted. The food at this location just doesn't taste right. Their pancakes are served cold, and omelette is way over cooked. Service really sucks especially if you are a girl. I guess one downside about living in boys' town for a straight girl.

This sounds crazy even to me, but every time I go to this IHOP I get better customer service than I do anywhere else in the city. There is often a line, but it moves fast and is worth it. You know what you're going to see on the menu, so that's not too exciting. It's open 24/7 and the people that work there make me want to go back time and again. Weird. Good, but weird.

IHOP is a good choice for breakfast at any time of the day but even more so when you have been drinking. The food just tastes so much better.

Whenever I want to satisfy crepe fever AND set myself up for a heavy dose of afternoon diarhia, I come to IHOP. The first few times I went to this location were great, but then there was some weird waiter turnover and the new waitresses mostly suck. They forget things like hashbrowns, or forks. Also, you have to walk through the kitchen to get to your seat. That's great for Buca's or whatever its called but I don't want to see the grease buckets they dip my pancakes into! It's IHOP, I am aware of how gross it is, but I prefer not to be reminded of it visually. Also, a lot of bums hang out in there, taking advantage of all you can eat pancakes. That's cool and all, but I have to pass them on the way to the bathroom, and nothing wrecks my hankering for pecan french toast like a urine-soaked bum asleep on the booth outside the ladies room.

GREAT late night drunk place to go. Service is decent and food tastes amazing. Of course that's probably because I've never been there sober.
