Great place, amazing food and excellent service! Loved the atmosphere here. I ordered the Prime Rib with Asparagus. Delicious! They served the asparagus with hollandaise. The asparagus was excellent, but wasnt crazy for the hollandaise. Tasted unusual. BUT they served the prime rib with a horseradish cream sauce that can only be described as 'OMG'. It wasnt the usual style that overpowers everything. This concoction was just mind blowing. It even went well with the asparagus better than the hollandaise did. My waitress was so pleasant to talk to and had a very pleasant personality. Would come back again!

We had a party of 10 and didn't have reservations on a Saturday night (not smart on our part). We put our names down and they told us it would be an hour. We walked to a pub down the street for a beer, come back and our table still wasn't ready. I suspect they suspected we wouldn't come back so we waited another 30 minutes. The service was quick and attentive. Sister and I scared a pasta dish and I had bites of other's crab cake and lobster tail, both very good. The steak was nice and juicy. $11 shots of Jamo at the bar...ouch.

This is my favorite "go-to" restaurant in Chicago. Whenever I have guests who are staying at downtown hotel, I send them to Harry Caray's (and hope they invite me too). Food is consistently good -- service is good (although sometime just a tad abrupt). If you eat at the bar, you get some yummy homemade potato chips. Their steaks are better than the advertised steak places. Pasta and salads are great. Bread is pretty lousy, they should upgrade that. Lots of character. It is a fun choice.

Great steak house!! Order it how it is suppose to be cooked and you will not be disappointed! Made reservations, got there a little early and stopped on the bar for a drink. The bar seems more laid back, but the restaurant part is a nice place to go on a date!

Everything was.....fine. Nothing really stood out. The calarmari was ok, the crostini really wasn't, I probably wouldn't order the fish stew again, service was fine. The one thing that did stand out was the ahi tuna - it was excellent. Very touristy and very expensive. 93/365

I go here to sit at the bar and watch the NFL games on Sunday (multiple Tvs and the NFL package). Much more low key than some of the other places in the area. The food is good enough, the beer cold and the wait staff very friendly. My only complaint is it is a little pricey but not terribly so. I will be back for sure.

We both had steak and it was cooked to perfection. After we left the restaurant, we met friends and went back for drinks. Had a good experience. Busylizzy

What can I say about Harry Caray's that haven't been stated? Great service! Great food and drinks! Great Cubs memorabilia! The prices are very reasonable for a downtown restaurant. I will certainly be back.

Great meal here this weekend with our family. Seating situation was a little messed up due to confusion around our reservation. The staff got it worked out quickly and we were able to enjoy a great meal and service. Tweed was our server, and he was great. They have a great pre-fix meal option and also had menu specials that most of us chose. We'll be back for sure.

This review is for the banquet facility on the second floor. If it were possible to give more than 5 stars I would. I recently got married and had the wedding reception at Harry Caray's and everything was perfect. One of the reasons we chose Harry Caray's was their wedding packages are pretty sweet. For a set fee, they take care of pretty much everything. Food, drinks, the cake (they deal with Oak Mill Bakery), table linens, etc. A lot of stuff you have to pay a la carte at other places is all included. Our main point of contact was Christine, the event planner. We met with her several times, she was super patient, and had some really good ideas. Day of the wedding, she met us at the door, walked us upstairs (through a hidden staircase so our guests wouldn't see us) and made sure me and my wife were all set with drinks and hors d'oeuvres as our guests were arriving for cocktail hour. I really felt like she went the extra mile to make sure our day went off without a hitch and that we were able to relax and enjoy our party. The food was phenomenal! Our guests had a choice between Filet, Chicken Vesuvio or Salmon. One of the nice parts was that we didn't have to pre-order. After everyone was seated, servers came around and took the orders. What this also meant was that you could actually get your steak prepared the way you wanted. I like it medium-rare, my wife prefers medium-well, and both were perfect. And I heard that from a lot of our guests as well. One guest told me it was the best wedding food she'd ever had. Unlike a lot of banquet halls, you get a full-sized restaurant portion at Harry Caray's. Finally, the service. These guys know what they're doing. During cocktails, you wanted another of a certain hors d'oeuvre? They had it right away. During dinner they were on top of all our needs and super polite and friendly the entire evening. It's definitely a unique choice, when we told people where the reception would be, most were surprised as they didn't think you could do a reception at Harry Caray's. It didn't feel like some generic banquet room at a hotel. I kind of wish I could get married again so I could have another party at Harry Caray's.

Best restaurant in Chicago. This place never fails. There are so many times we send friends to a restaurant because we had a great meal or great service - then they go and it sucks. This place consistently provides excellent good AND excellent service. They offer great specials and if you check in on Yelp, you get a lunch coupon. There's tons of history to excite any baseball fan and lots of pictures. Can't lose visiting Harry's.

I came here on a busy night. I didn't even get a chance to eat here. Waited at the door for sometime to be seated. Left after 15-20 minutes of waiting. You guys suck. Yes the bartender and at least 3 people working there saw us waiting in the empty line. Maybe I looked like a hooligan that night, I don't know, but if you're in line and nobody comes by to at least talk to you I'd leave.

We had a group dinner here with about 18 people. Reservations were made weeks in advance. When we first walked in to our table we were in the back corner and very crammed, as a matter of fact one person had to sit his chair sideways to fit because there was a cabinet against the wall. Everyone else was sitting elbows to elbows. Appetizers were passed around the table, we had a little bit of everything from calamari, meat and cheese platter, toasted ravioli- the list goes on and they were all wonderful. Next up was the caesar salad which was also good. For the main meal I ordered the filet mignon which was a huge, tender piece of meat with the gorgonzola butter on top. It was a good thing I ordered that extra topping because it would have been just a plain tasting meat. Which I thoroughly enjoy the flavor of a steak but I prefer some seasoning or char to my MR steak. This completely lacked flavor... maybe this was because we were spoiled at Joes Steak and Seafood the previous night and that was perfection. For dessert we finished up with creme brulee. Nothing over the top just a regular serving. It did have a nice portion of berries that went along with it.

Great food and great location. Food was awesome for lunch, I had wonderful steak and my wife had a chicken she loved. We also liked the history of the building and how they maintained that. Very cool that Frank N. lived there once, a famed hitman of the Chicago mafia. Would go back in a second.

I was wandering around downtown Chicago with some business associates and we were looking for someplace to watch some football and baseball on a Sunday afternoon. The service was decent and the food wasn't too bad either. The fresh potato chips were a hit and they had plenty of tv's and some decent beers on tap. I was only in the bar and just had a sandwich so I can't attest to the food in the restaurant part of the establishment but a decent place for a sandwich and a brew.

Group of 50 were usher up to a private area which was already set up with wine and beer. Appetizers came out quickly and they took orders efficiently. My pork chop was excellent! Others enjoyed their steak and vegaterian entrees. Service was present when you needed but not in the way. The experience was very good for such a large group. Decor was baseball nastalgic, which is cool if a fan. Chicago has many steak places so I can't recommend over others if in a small group, but for a large group very nice experience.

One of the three best steaks I've ever had the pleasure to wrap my mouth around!! Get the dry aged bone in ribeye. Keep the sides simple, the onion rings are very good as are the garlic mashed potatoes. Don't waste stomach room on much else. Yes it is noisy. Yes it is crowded. Yes the tables are way too closely packed. Yes it is first and foremost a sports bar. The star of the show is this steak that ranks right up there with Peter Luger's in NYC. Cooked perfectly to order, so good that when you are finished you are tempted to pick up the bone an gnaw every last shred of goodness off of it. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in Chicago

Came here last night for an alumni event from my college. First off, the staff was super friendly, from the moment we walked through the door. The event space on the second floor was nice, with restrooms easily accessible. The space was dark, with no natural light, but the restaurant is this way throughout. The fried ravioli was great. Tasty! However, the other appetizers were uneven...some sliders were cooked to medium (yumm) and others were well done and lacking in flavor. The arancini (sp) was just an OK version, and the chicken skewers were dry. I had not been to this restaurant in 20 years (or so), so it was interesting to go back. HOwever, there are plenty of better places in the area. They need to update and reinvent with all the competition in River North.

Sat at the bar and had an afternoon snack and drinks. Good bloody Mary, good bruschetta, and the fried mozzarella was very good. The bartender was nice and did a good job. I figured it was a tourist spot but it seemed like locals mostly eating lunch. Save the two rednecks in our seats. Holy Cow, I'd love a cold Budweiser!

Harry Carey was Italian? I suppose I should know this being a Wrigleyville resident. And I guess I could Wiki search it but in case you didn't hear today's an Internet blackout. Anyways, it'd explain the dictomy of this restaurant; which is part sports bar full of sports memorabilia and part old school Italian style dining. We ate in the dining room which was suprisingly kinda classy. For a place known as "touristy" it was mostly empty. We ordered: Beer, Cosmo for me, Filet Mignon for him, and a cheeseburger for me. It was all pretty satisfactory. Not the best we've had, but far from the worst. The service however, was OUTSTANDING! Very attentive, and polished, without being fussy. I really was impressed. The bread was really good too (lol, what a banal comment but some restaurant for some reason bungle this). Overall, nothing to make us shout "Holy cow!" but worth checking out if you find in ball park.

We decided to go here for dinner. We were dressed casual but they said it was fine if we sat in the dining room. Many people were dressed very casual so we didn't feel out of place. We didn't have a preference of bar vs dining room. I have say in the bar before and along with the good food are very social bartenders. Our dinner started with a bread and butter basket. We split a Caesar salad, and it was not only pretty good but our waiter also put it on separate plates (without a spilt plate charge - you never know these days). We both decided on pasta for the night. I had Fettuccine Alfredo and my husband had spaghetti & meatballs. No complaints! Very good but it's pretty hard to mess up those dishes. We ended with the apple tart, omg, yum!!!! Definitely the highlight of our evening dinner. Another highlight to our evening was our waiter, Carlos. He was the most attentive waiter we have has in years! We had drinks along with a soda and by the time we were almost done with it, there was already another sitting on the table. We would go back here again in a heartbeat.

Full disclosure: I did not pay for anything here, including the open bar, so I am reviewing this place through the haze of work perks. That said, the bartender put up with my indecision at drink ordering ('just make me something sweet that doesn't taste like alcohol') and made me lovely amaretto sours; the mac n cheese bites were addictive; the filet was perfectly cooked; the key lime pie, best part of the meal, with its bits of candied lime peel. The service was fast and friendly, but again, we were in a private room, so they were probably extra attentive about it.

I made the mistake of going there based on the recommendation of the Concierge at the Almafi Hotel (across the street). WORST mistake I have EVER made in all my trips to Chicago.. The $50.00 PORTERHOUSE steak was tough, overcooked (I ordered medium-rare, came out medium-well), and dry. The waiter didn't care one bit that I said it was a fail. Just said "Oh, sorry to hear that", and walked away... Came back to get the check and would not send a manager. I really should have left the waiter the ultimate insult (a one-penny tip) but it wasn't worth that hassle. When I was leaving, the manager was so busy talking with his friends that he would not even acknowledge me though I stood there for a full 2 minutes. CRAP FOOD, DO NOT GO THERE !!! Jim

the first time i went there with a group, we decided to watch some of the cubs game in the bar and then eat dinner. well, we were drinkssins a bit and eating those potato chips they put out. and we just kept eating the chips. they were so good we couldn't eat dinner. so we came back months later and i had the fried calamari and boneless chicken vesuvio. definitely great and next time i will skip the chips in favor of a more wholesome meal.

In Chicago for the weekend. Friday night everything was packed and we wandered into HCIS - great surprise! Fun atmosphere, great service, great food. Had the veal (plain grilled) - nothing plain about it! It was the best veal I've ever had with asparagus and mashed potatoes. It would have been five stars but the flourless chocolate cake dessert seemed too much like something I bought at the airport and the decaf coffee was a bit watery. So, great meal but needed to work more on dessert!

We had a fantastic dinner here. There were four adults and five kids (yikes!) and everything went smoothly. The service was excellent and the food was awesome. We all loved our meals and the kids did too. The beet and spinach salad was a thumbs up and the steaks were fantastic. Side of Brussels sprouts was super yummy. Great wine and beer list. We loved our meal and will be back. Hopefully soon.

Although the steaks were excellent, our waiter was so rude that it ruined the entire dining experience. We were so rushed that I will never go back. We were literally in and out in 45 minutes! For a party of 6 that is way too fast for a restaurant of this price point! As I said the steaks were delicious but it was more like a factory than a dining experience. With so many other good steak houses in Chicago I would not waste my time or money dining here.

    (2)
  • Randall H.

First off, yes it is a bit of a tourist trap. But people keep coming back because it's actually a very good steak house. All the wait staff is required to know the various cuts of steak and the correct wine that goes with it. The pasta is also excellent here.

Came here during a recent trip to Chicago and had a really nice time. A few others on here had recommended sitting at the bar as a nice, casual option, so that's what I did with some friends. It's the same menu as the rest of the restaurant, which is great in that you have some amazing options on offer, although not so great in that this isn't your typical bar menu that might even be more reasonable in price. Oh well -- it's Harry Caray! I went pretty simple with a hamburger but really enjoyed it. A very solid effort -- nice and big, cooked just as I had ordered. For a bar experience in a nice restaurant like this, I highly recommend.

Gotta try the Chicken Vesuvio, which the waiter explained to us as a Chicago specialty. The chicken is basically sauteed with garlic, white wine, oil, n then baked til the skin gets really crisp. Comes with potato wedges on the side... Had never heard of it before but glad we tried it.. delicious! Filet was good, but as rare as it is for me to say this, the chicken vesuvio dish was the highlight here. Ambiance and service were very good, which you'd expect at a nice steakhouse.

Visited here for Valentines, they offered a special v-day menu but op'd out and went with 12oz Dry aged New York Strip with truffle butter (I do not recommend the truffle butter, it was over powering the steak.) Date went with 16oz prime rib of beef which was fine. For sides bacon cheddar twice baked potato and broccoli with garlic and pecorino toscano which were fine.

  • John F.

I've only been here for lunch so this review only pertains to the bar half of the restaurant. That being said, I like this place and is a solid option. I pretty much always get the Prime Rib sandwich when i come here because well, it's amazing. The burgers and other lunch options aren't too shabby either. Did I mention they give you free homemade chips when you sit down? No? Well they do! Overall a solid lunch option and I look forward to my next Prime Rib sandwich! Maybe one of these days I'll make my way out here for dinner...

Last night was my birthday and we celebrated it at Harry Caray's on Kinzie everything about the night was fantastic but a special thanks to our amazing server Jenny, she made the night even more special with fantastic service and amazing wine knowledge, she helped our whole table feel like family.

    O. M. G... The crabcakes and garlic mashed potatoes were standard. The creamed spinach was very good (not drowning in cream like at Morton's), but the steak... My filet was the best I'v ever had. ANYWHERE. A perfect crust on the outside and perfectly medium rare on the inside. Also, the wine list is very extensive and has plenty of reasonable options. Would definitely come back here when next time in Chicago.

Was in Chicago for work and had a business dinner here. I went with the 12 ounce dry aged NY Strip. I'm usually not a fan of the strip, but this was really good. Reasonably well marbled and just the right amount of crust. We ordered asparagus, mashed potatoes and scalloped potatoes for the table. None were particularly special, but the steak was clearly the star. It is a bit touristy looking, but the steak was worth the trip.

This was not my first pick of places to eat but I am really glad they were able to seat me on such a busy night. For starters, I ordered the four cheese toasted ravioli, they were amazing. Drink, bottle of Charles Krug wine. For my entree i loosened the old belt. I ordered the Harry Caray's Chicken Vesuvio, half chicken. This has to be one of the best chicken I have even eaten. Juicy, succulent and well seasoned. The potato wedges that came with it were lightly fried with a crunchy texture. The peas were peas, thats all i have to say about that. Im not done yet, i also order the 9oz Filet Mignon, rare but i didn't get a crust or sauce with it. Of course i cant forget the mac and cheese i ordered as a side. Very creamy and came in this really nice skillet that i tried to walk off with. Yes, "tried" cause i didn't get one. The main reason I gave Harry Caray's 5 stars is because of our server Don. He made the night very memorable with his food knowledge and sense of humor. If you are going to dine here I highly recommend asking for Don to be your server.

The food is always good here. Ordered the chicken parm, stuffed oysters/clams and mac and cheese. I keep coming back here because our server (with mustache, can't remember name) is always on point, super friendly, very observant and our table was always being cleared along the way.

Went to Chicago for a hang out trip with my brother. We wanted to try out a few steakhouses. Of the three we tested out, this was the finest by far. Really fun atmosphere, impeccable service, and of course, insanely delicious steaks. Part of the problem with globalization is that nicer restaurants often feel like they could be anywhere; they have a smooth postmodern homogeneity. This place felt like Chicago. I would add as well that the wines were very fairly priced for the quality. So often I will see wines on a list for $90 when I know full well I can pick the same bottle up retail for $12. Harry Caray's seemed to have about a 100% markup across the board, which is fair and what you generally expect. Can't wait to go back!

We had a 9pm reservation on a Saturday night. As you might imagine the place was packed. We arrive a little early (about 10 mins), checked in and waited in the bar. The service was good, and we actually got lucky and got two seats AT the bar. At 9:01 PM I received a text telling me our table was now ready. Service inside was very good and attentive, but not crawling on us. Steaks were very good as well. We opted for the "Prix Fixe" deal which is 3 courses for about $55/ea. As we looked around though, all the food coming out looked very good.

Great place. Everyone on the serving staff was very attentive, although I did end up with two massive trays of food uncomfortably close to my elbows at some times. Had an interesting kale salad and a really excellently prepared rare steak -- a really nice char on the crust while maintaining a rare temperature. The staff was alerted that it was my birthday and brought a piece of key lime pie which was also pretty tasty. However, all said and done, I tried the chicken vesuvio off my mother-in-laws plate, and WOW, it knocked my socks off!!! That chicken vesuvio is totally a five-star meal, and I tried a piece of chicken breast as someone who doesn't even like white meat. Definitely coming back for a full plate!

Bow down to the worlds best steaks! I have never been emotional about food while i eat it but I did. Went here while on vacation and it was not only the best meal i had on the trip but in my top 5 in my whole life. Expensive but worth every penny, service is great.

Attending a private event, I was able to sample a wide selection of food at this iconic Chicago eating establishment. With wall upon wall lined with pictures of famous and not so famous people, it was an excellent experience. Their prime rib was excellent as well as their pork. anti pasto was also very good as was their desserts. It was a festive time and I even got to meet Dutchie, Harry's wife as well as Ernie Banks. I also met Beth Heller who is the director of marketing and filled me in of the expansion of this establishment over the years and was a good MC for the event. As for next time I'll have to try a steak!

This is not professional at all to say this but oh well....FREAKING AWESOME PLACE! I had passed by this place many times this past summer while living in Chicago and I wanted to visit, so during my annual fall trip to CHI I made a reservation for my friend and I. One thing I love about this place as many bars/ steak houses in CHI is that they are casual enough for a man to feel comfortable but us as women can dress up and feel pretty. This place had that great combination. Some of the items can be pricey and I would say overall this is a moderately priced place (not good for those on a tight budget unless this is your day to splurge). The wait staff were so friendly and professional. I had the chicken vesuvio and I am so glad I tried something new because I am in love with that dish (made it when I got back home) and from the first bit I was in love. I agree theirs is the best in the city. You must have the tiramisu. That was the best I had ever tasted; great way to end the meal. I know I will come back to Harry's soon and if luck is in my favor I will run into one of the many celebrities that frequent there. This is a must visit when in River North in Chicago.

Always solid- food prepared well, diverse menu. Ate in the bar this time- it is usually crowded. Caesar was perfect- not drenched in dressing, just light w Parmesan. Small filet was cooked m rare and had great flavor. Staff is professional, not friendly. Strong recommend

I have been to Harry Caray's a few times now and everytime I go, I don't have a reservation, but get seated in great time, we get greeted properly at the front door, the service is fantastic, the drinks are delicious and adequately priced, and the food is delicious. Whenever I'm in the mood for some Italian, this is where I would want to go. I recommend this place to tourists and even Sox fans, because despite the Cubs memorabilia, it has a great atmosphere and and is a place not to turn down.

I'd been here once before years ago and remembered having a great time. When I was out here earlier this week with a friend, I wanted to go back. The second time around wasn't near as good as the first. We did drinks beforehand, their weed (er, garden) salad, and my friend had the chicken marsala (very good) and I had the chicken involtini (awesome). Why the 3 stars then? The service. The waiter was really determined to do one thing - turn the table as fast as he possibly could. I'm sorry - if I'm sitting down at a nice-r restaurant I don't want to feel rushed. Food is a solid 4 stars, service is a 2 at best.

LOVE! LOVE LOVE LOVE!! One of my favorite restaurant experiences ever. And not just saying that because I am a baseball fan and there is baseball memorabilia stationed strategically around the dining areas. (Well maybe I am...) You walk in, and there sits a giant statue of Harry Caray's noggin surrounded by pictures of hundreds of celebrities who have posed with the Chicago legendary figure. The food and service were great. I never eat dessert but the waitress suggested it, and we were enjoying ourselves so we agreed. We got the baseball mousse that was mentioned in a few other reviews. It comes out on a plate looking well... just like a baseball. The "grass" on the plate was green colored coconut shavings. When you dug into the white shell of the baseball, there were two chocolate fillings inside. By far the best thing I ate that night. Sure the place is "touristy" but I was a tourist so I loved it :) Being from Washington DC though I have to deal with tourists everywhere I go so this was my turn!

I've yet to have a meal here (the menu appears to be mostly 1960's businessman-fodder), but since Harry's is right next door to my summer quarters in Chicago, I've developed a certain familiarity with their bar. This is a classic sports bar, with a half-dozen TV's (don't look for PBS here!), all manner of sports and celebrity memorabilia, and well-crafted if rather pricey drinks. One of the better margaritas in my experience. Bar freebies are limited to excellent home-made potato chips. Somewhat surprisingly, Harry's, which was once a sort of kept lady of Anheuser-Busch, now fields a quite respectable craft-beer list, and a bar staff who actually seem to know something about the brews. Good public transit access: on the 22-Clark, 29-State, 36-Broadway, and 62-Archer bus lines; four blocks from the Grand Avenue Red Line station, and a similar distance from the Clark-Lake station on the Blue Line and Loop 'L'. Within an easy crawl of Public House (1 block), Rock Bottom (4 blocks), Watershed (5 blocks), and Stout Barrel House (6 blocks).

Food was good, I loved the bread. My mom ordered the seafood salad, but it looked too organized. Each ingredient was decorated in a neat row. If given the right ingredients, it was something I could have made and would have gladly accepted $16 to make it. I ordered a hamburger and had them split it in half. They were nice enough to split it and put it on two plates, perfect! My brother ordered the Shrimp Po Boy, the waitress recommended it, but it wasn't as good as I thought it would have been for $15. The waitress recommended two of the three items on the specials menu for the day, coincidence? I think not. Ambiance - I really liked the ambiance. The restaurant paid a lot of tribute to Harry Caray and the Chicago Cubs. During a certain losing streak, he gave away $.45 beers and the recent restaurant manager bought a ball for $100k just to destroy it for the Chicago Cubs to stop another losing streak. This restaurant seems to have a lot of historical value by the articles, pictures, and jerseys on the wall. HOWEVER, I think the restaurant has lost a bit of that touch by seeming more fancy/corporate. The waiters weren't even allowed to leave a pitcher of water on our table.

We had the pleasure of spending Father's Day with my dad in Chicago and he got to pick any place he wanted to go to, mine and my sister's treat. I knew he was going to pick Harry Caray's because he has this underdog affinity for The Chicago Cubs and growing up, we used to make fun of Harry Caray in a teasing sort of manner. My sis and i both ordered some vegetarian Italian pasta dish that we both loved but our main focus was to treat my dad to a steak. He gave his meal 2 thumbs up and 5 stars. I don't remember what type of cut he ordered but I do remember the waiter bringing out all of the fresh cuts or meat to the table and explaining them to us. I LOVED the old school service and how fascinating it was to listen to him talk about the difference of each cut. I do have to add that the garlic mashed potatoes were awesome and the bread was delightful. This place was so much fun! A great place to take your Dad or Grandpa for a special meal but only if they are as cool as mine ;) or as dorky and into kitschy stuff like Harry Caray's and Harry Caray himself.

I hosted a small business dinner here yesterday for about 20 people. We were upstairs in the MVP room which can comfortably handle 35 people. The mini bruschetta appetizer, steak and chicken parmesan were the fan favorites of the group. Of course their homemade chips were also out for us to snack on too. They are addictive. The room has a great ambience. You're on the 2nd floor looking out onto Dearborn and Kinzie. The corner of the room has a sofa and chairs with a front room sort of feel. It was perfect to have a pre dinner cocktail and conversation. The banquet managers name is Ray and he did a great job accommodating the group. All of that in conjunction with the price I found it to be a great value.

Went in for lunch and ate at the bar. The service was great! I had a cup of the chicken jambalaya soup, which was well-seasoned and flavorful. My sandwich tasted fresh and was good as well.

I have to admit that I'd never heard of Chicken Vesuvio before sitting down and learning that Caray's had won an award for it. Of course, I ordered it ($24ish). Meal came out sizzling, with crispy skin and delightfully crisp potato wedges. Serving size was generous, but definitely manageable by an average American man. That being said, the first ten bites were incredible (as was the bread loaf that preceded the meal - perhaps ate too much), but then then I realized that the whole meal was too salty. An average hypertensive American man would probably dismiss this as a mere way of life, but I found the salt detracted from the legitimately tasty chicken flesh. Bottom line: get the Vesuvio ... but share it.

Not worth it. Spend your $ at Sullivan's down the street. Came in here because everywhere else was packed, this last resort definitely disappointed.

I walked into this restaurant and saw what I expected. With a name like this, I expected the place to be pretty touristy. You walk in and immediately see a bust of Harry himself. You look around and every inch of every wall was filled with memorabilia, vintage photos, jerseys, and celebrity photos. I can imagine how bustling this place is during game days. There's a bar on one side and the dining area on the other. It felt more like a steakhouse than an Italian restaurant. At the bar, we received a basket of homemade chips which we couldn't stop munching on. We had a variety of appetizers, including some shrimp cocktail, bruschetta, calamari, and fried ravioli. I did the the ravioli. I thought the tomatoes were a bit too drenched in balsamic for my taste. The bread was extra soft but don't have too much of it or else you'll spoil your meal. The waiter came out with a platter to show us all their meats. Quite a display. He recommended their dry aged rib eye, which I decided to order. It was a good size portion, but came a bit on the medium side (I ordered a medium rare). Good char on the meat though. The sides were average (spinach, mashed potatoes, mushrooms). Our tiramisu dessert was a sweet ending to the meal. The waiter even gave us a couple extra orders of tiramisu. All in all, it was a good meal. Excellent service and good vibe. I wonder how their Italian dishes were. I opted not to try their famous Chicken Vesuvio...wonder if I missed out.

I had the Filet Migon and was extremely impressed. Very juicy tender meat aged to perfection with the right amount of searing and spices. I am very tempted to go back tonight and order the same meal tonight. Loved it, highly recommend the food here.

Definitely a tourist driven local...it was lively with some great apps ( especially the calamari...yum) ...the highlight of the experience was John the bathroom attendant who has been workin' that bathroom for 34 years! He was a riot!

I went there for lunch today with some co-workers. The food was good, NOT OUT OF THIS WORLD or anything. The service was "meh" because our server, "Mike" went MIA on us. Good thing there is someone walking around to refill waters and ice teas. Otherwise, I'd give this place a no star. I HATE when they don't refill my water. We had to steal knives from the tables around us too. We had the buffalo style calamari to start. Nothing fancy, just imagine hot wings but calamari instead of chicken. A little too greasy and salty. I got the Horseradish and Mustard Crusted Salmon with citrus butter and parmesan risotto. I asked for it sans butter but it was on there. UGH. I am totally the kind of person to send this back but since we were on lunch hour and I was with work people, I just sucked it up and ate it. Not that it wasn't good but if I'm going to eat 200 calories of fat, it's going to be ice cream or something. Whatever. I was bitter but still ate my meal. The risotto was a bit undercooked too. Salmon was good though. I got a side of steamed broccoli which was HUGE and perfectly cooked. Other with me got the steak sandwich (looked good, fish and chips (had a taste, it was crispy and tasty), and the chicken burger. Dessert was (and always will be) my favorite part. We split the tiramisu and the "baseball dessert." Both were good, the tiramisu was better though. The baseball dessert was quite expensive for the size.

My work team went to Harry Caray's for an early lunch celebration. Everyone left stuffed and satisfied. We were happy campers from the warm bread to the fresh salads, massive burgers, and irresistible deserts. The menu was fairly standard for a steak house, so I can't really rave about the creativeness of the menu or how any one particular dish wowed and amazed. Everything was fresh, pleasantly presented, and well-portioned. Most of our diners opted for salads. The four orders of Seafood salad were warmly received and my Tuscan salad was filled with quality fresh ingredients. The server was also more than accommodating with substitutions and additions. My boss is a burger man and loved the Blue Cheese Burger the restaurant had on special. The Steak Sandwich with fries was also a good choice. I stayed on the healthier side, until the deserts came. The tiramasu and the brownie were fantastic! My co-worker couldn't resist the "Best Chicken Vesuvio in the City" and wanted it noted that while he had never eaten Chicken Vesuvio before, he will concur with Harry Caray's claim. His dish certainly smelled delicious and was devoured in its entirety. Even when the lunch crowd filled the dining area, the wait staff remained very attentive, speedy, and the noise level was still moderate. The dining room is a little more casual than I expected, but the excellent service, Chicago heritage, and white linens may warrant the pricier entrees for a dinner experience. It was a very pleasant lunch experience at a famous Chicago favorite. I will have to return for that "Best Chicken Vesuvio" in the city.

Was visiting Chicago and family wanted to come here for the touristy nostalgia. Service was good, and food was quick to come out but overall the food was pretty underwhelming. It's dated, and nothing to get excited about for the serious price gouging they pull. Steak was dry aged which absorbs salt then was doused in salt before cooking, mashed potatoes weren't creamy under seasoned. Cream of spinach was soupy. Bread was good!

OH YES. Hubby and I go to a steak place every time we're in the Windy City, and this by far blows all the other places we've been to out of the water. Definitely make a reservation, the place is crowded, and even with a ressie, we still had to wait 20 minutes. We got a cozy table in the corner, and noshed on their yummy bread until our apps came- shrimp cocktail- huge, and REALLY fresh. he wished there were 10 more pieces! caesar salad- good dressing and fresh parm on top pappardelle with spicy tomato sauce and ground sausage- FRESH pasta, you could really taste the difference, and the sauce was really good. Not too spicy, but just the right amount of kick, and the sausage was gooooooood. I love pappardelle noodles too! rib eye with a side of mashed potatoes- hubby indulged with the 18 oz. I'm not even a big read meat lover, but dear LORD this meat was super amazing. I couldn't get enough of the mashed either. This was really one of the best dinners we've had in Chicago, and might have to make it a tradition!!

If you don't like fish, don't order the chicken fettuccine. The chicken had the taste of fish. Yuck. Just gave up and went hungry. Everything else seemed really good as far as people in our large party said and reacted. The service seemed light and since I ate very little of my dish, it was odd they didn't ask. I think the staff are not so customer service oriented. Just hustling along to get the dinner served.

Had lunch. Had to ask for refills. Had to ask for desert. They ran out apple tarts. They lost one persons order. Rang order wrong. Overall not excellent at all. Management must not be setting the bar high. The food we did get was good. What a shame to do this to Harry.

Service was amazing. I sat at the bar and got incredible service from Jackie? Who has been there 24 years. Wow! Prime rib was delicious, Cesar was a little over salty and the meat comes on a plate with broth and no veggies. Ah Chicago.

My friend recommended this place as a Chicago staple and it did not disappoint. We sat in the bar and almost immediately the most delicious bowl of homemade chips appeared on the table. Crispy and chewy and yummy...best I've ever had. Our server recommended a beer called Matilda....never heard of it or had it before. But I did love it. Very flavorful and delicious. They had about ten drafts on the menu. I forgot to check out the wine list. We both ordered a prime rib sandwich. There was a ton of prime rib on the sandwich which came on a homemade roll. I loved it. I ordered a side salad which was a perfect temp...I don't like my salads too cold. And had a fantastic oil and vinegar dressing. Highly recommended over the fries which is the other choice for a side. I was too full to even think about dessert so I can't even tell you what is on the menu. I would definitely try this place if you're in Chicago. The burgers looked really good and so did the steaks!

Okay. So who would've thought Harry Caray's would be a great steak house?! Not us. We stand corrected. We thought this place was a tourist trap--nothing close to that. We made a reserves for 7 on NYE. We solely chose the place based on proximity to House of Blues, where we were seeing a Led Zeppelin cover band to ring in the New Year (yes, cheesy, but fun). We thoroughly enjoyed our steaks. I had the Rib Eye & added the King Crab Legs. Another party had a NY strip steak and some folks had pastas. All were excellent! The drinks were beautifully crafted (Manhattans Up made - Bookers Bourbon). We will definitely return on a non-eventful eve. Seriously, it was a lovely experience. The place is huge w-many rooms & great ambiance, great experienced staff and great food. Will definitely go back. What a nice surprise. Tweed (yes that was his real name) was our experienced waiter who treated us well and recommended accordingly. And surprisingly, with a table of 7, we were able to hold a conversation where everyone could hear eachother without yelling. That was something we all noticed...there were lots of other groups that evening as well as some interesting other tables, and yet we felt intimate in our setting. Definitely try it out. Cheers!

Wish I could give this place five stars. The food deserved it - the service doesn't. Bar service is terrible. The bartender was much more interested in flirting with one of her customers than waiting on me, dishes went uncleared, she never asked how our meal was, asked my male companion if he wanted another drink and completely ignored me. I've had nothing but incredible service in the five days I've been in Chicago , but this was really bad. We won't be back.

Visited this place on my recent trip to Chicago. I was slightly skeptical because this place is so touristy, but I am so happy I ate here. Once you get past the tourist knickknacks, and get into the dining room, its a different ballgame. I felt like I was in a proper steakhouse with top notch service, and fantastic food. My friend and I shared a BLT Wedge Salad, which was absolutely delicious. We also shared the Toasted Ravioli...a must have in my opinion. For the entrees, I decided to go with the Duroc Chop which was amazing. Perfectly seasoned, and a nice crisp on the outside while tender and amazingly juicy on the inside. My friend ordered the Filet, which was also well seasoned, and perfectly cooked. We got the Spinach with Garlic and Olive Oil, and the Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes as our sides. I honestly didn't think the food would be this good. Our servers were very attentive, and knowledgeable. I also thought the prices were very reasonable. I am quite impressed with the food, and the service, and I would certainly come here again on my next trip to Chicago.

Went there for a work get together. We had the prefixed salad, entree and dessert menu. Ordered the Cesar salad which was decent. The 8oz Filet Minion was poor, the sauce had a sweet flavor to it and the meat wasn't cooked that well. Would not recommend! Perhaps it's good for a drink and bar food but definitely not a sit down dinner.

I went here the other night with our 2 little ones (kid friendly) we had dry aged ribeye (under cooked) and 2 small fillets (perfectly cooked) and a kids spaghetti sauce was tasty. ..... Everything else is extra.... no salad, no potato. I ordered 2 sides mashed and a *baked potato which was cold...... Along with our unenthusiastic waiter who I think just wanted to go home. He didn't know the process they use of wet aging their steak?? Oh well Shoulda went to Ruths Chris but my girl wanted to try something different.

Holy Cow! Shared the Rib Eye, Prime Rib and Salmon which were all prepared very well. Added the twice baked potato which was the size of a mini football. Service was very good and the memorabilia was great. With all the steak houses in the area I was hesitant to go here but glad we did.

The food was overall great. The Brussels sprouts were a savory appetizer. I was surprised that a pasta dish would cost $25, even though there were pieces of seafood. I enjoyed the kale salad with pine nuts and apples. It was a great combination. The service was excellent. If you are hungry and want to live it up, this was a nice experience.

After 6 bars on an impromptu bar crawl and an unsatisfactory snack of McDonald's fries this past St. Patty's Day weekend, a couple of girlfriends and myself (including fellow Yelper Bernice Y.!) were hankering for some good eats. Not gonna lie. A little tipsy, I looked at the prices and almost got up to leave, but decided to stay and be a good sport about it. And man, am I glad I stayed. We decided to order 2 entrees between the 3 of us and it was the perfect amount. The food came out within 10 minutes as we were munching on bread and butter and we were more than pleased! The pesto pasta with mushrooms and sun-dried tomatoes was ridiculously good. Though I'm not a fan of mushrooms, the sun-dried tomatoes added a really nice taste and texture to the whole dish. A good sprinkling of roasted pine nuts would've been nice, but the pesto itself was a nice mix between basil and garlic. The chicken parmigiana was equally good--the sauce was tomato-ey but not overpowering and the extra helping of pasta underneath was AWESOME for 3 semi-sober girls to eat between bars. We went in at 10pm, an hour before they were closing and we all agreed that this was one of the best decisions of our night.

In a city full of steakhouses Harry Caray's doesn't do too much to rock the boat. It's fine I suppose, though expensive. I had the tuna and actually really enjoyed it, though that had more to do with the sauce. Our appetizers were small and thusly very overpriced. Huge sides were worth it, but after that ... you can do better. Much better.

I'm embaressed to say I'm not sure who Harry Carey is.. But I like him. (R.I.P.) Great bar to sit and watch the game, with good service, and home made chips to munch on. Mix of people here from those whose happy hour became an all night affair, and those looking for a more relaxing few drinks away from all of the noise of the other bars in this area. Chips are seriously delish.

A Chicago institution that has stood the test of time, Harry Caray's steakhouse is just the place to meet up with friends, have a drink at their bar that seemingly goes on forever or enjoy a steak in the dining room. It's funny . . .as many times as I have eaten here, I have never just sat in the bar and had drinks with friends. But given the size of the bar, the great bartenders and the view to the outside , this definitely will go on my list of casual spots to meet up with friends. The only surprise that we had (and maybe it's a good thing) is that there is only one menu for the entire restaurant. So don't go thinking that the food at the bar is any cheaper than that which will get plated and served to you in the dining room. My friends were lamenting the cost of their burgers (which at $16 seemed okay to me given we were in a steakhouse) but I guess they thought that the bar pricing would somehow be less than the regular restaurant. But the burgers came up thick and juicy, perfectly prepared as asked topped with bacon, Gouda cheese, some of Harry's steak sauce and fries on the side! Perfect for the cold beers we were drinking. I thought the service at the bar was excellent- all the bartenders fill in for each other so my glass was never empty and I only had to look up to get another drink placed in front of me. The only wish I had, actually came true when the manager finally locked the back door to the bar as it was freezing in there every time someone walked in. But other than that, it was a good night. Valet parking is available out front for $12 and know that they share valet service with the place across the street so if no one is at the stand- flag down one of the guys from across the way. All in all- a good place to grab a beer with friends in a bit of Chicago history. And if you have the time- don't forget to check out all the pics on the wall of the people who make Chicago what it is!

Oh my gosh what a treat. Dinner was nearly $200 for two but it was worth every single penny. The calamari was reminiscent of butter. The steaks were full of deep and complex flavor. The mushrooms were scrumptious. And the mashed potatoes were delightful. Our server was attentive and made sure we were well taken care of (I could see how others not used to this calibre of dining might say pushy but by no means was I rushed). What an excellent experience.

These guys knocked it out of the park! Great staff and great food! My friends and I went out for our birthdays and came across Harry Caray's while struggle to find a place to eat with an open. This rating is in no way referencing their food, the food was a 10/10. Had the Seafood Linguine and was the best I have had my entire life. Had a bite of my dates 8 oz Filet Mignon which is not my favorite cut of meat, but was the best bite I had ever had. The flavor was rich and juicy with a still perfect charred outside for a smokey taste. There was not a single complaint. Now let's get into the bad. The atmosphere. We were not your normal group, there were four of us. And we probably did not dress to code, but we were paying guests and were invited in for a meal. But it seemed like from the start we were looked down upon like we were unimportant. The server went through his motions with very little true concern for how our meal was. I have had better service at a Culvers before. THE WORST PART. The whole time we tried to enjoy our meal there were two burly looking men to our immediate right, table right next to us, starring us down the entire meal. One had a very obvious and insinuating earpiece in that gave him away as not a person there for dinner. And not only this but they didn't eat the entire time we were there. Or have anyone server ask if they needed anything, overly obvious. Anyways it was hard to comfortably enjoy our delicious meal the entire hour and a half we were there. I would say for the prices the food is worth it, but try and find a similar place with better service.

My brother in law and I wandered into Harry Carays while looking for a place to eat before a show at the Cadillac. I was of course familiar with the iconic restaurant and it's even more iconic namesake, but for whatever reason had not visited until now. A true 5 star experience comes only when you are made to feel like an honored guest, that was how we felt walking in cold, like we must have 'known a guy.' This place is true Chicago, it's walls littered with Harry memorobelia, knick knacks and Windy City stuff. The ambiance is warm and welcoming, like a favorite leather couch in your uncles den around the holidays, full of noisy strangers who seem like family. But the real treat was the service. The waitstaff, dressed in white coats and aprons with embroidered names on the lapel gave off an air of old timely sophistication. Quick, attentive and efficient, our handlebar mustachioed waiter took our drink order, showed us the specials and returned with our drinks from 2 bars. I settled on a blackened strip steak, my brother in law tried the Chicken Vesuvio, boneless on request. While we waited we enjoyed a warm loaf of complimentary bread, then another immediately replacing the first. Heaven. The food was superb, I cannot describe a strip steak in very many exciting ways but this was by far the best I had ever tried. It was accompanied by small rosemary potatoes and fresh greens. The Chicken was equally top notch. We declined after dinner espresso or desserts to save time, but I look forward to going back very soon to try an even nicer cut. The prices range between a $18-ish burger to a $60, 5 course meal with items as equally impressive as the price tag. Our neighboring table had a few younger kids munching on what looked like kids menu fare, so bring the little ones- there is no pretentiousness here, it's a family restaurant and a real Chicago treasure.

Food was amazing! Service was amazing! The only set back was my wallet was stolen out of my purse. Sitting in the bar area at high top tables. My purse was hanging off of the chair, open. A strange man was extremely close to me as it got crowded and reached into my purse and took it, and I did not realize he had robbed me until I was trying to pay my bill. Staff was very helpful, but apparently this has been a common problem in the area. I will go back, but next time I will keep my purse zipped up and closer to my lap.

Great food and decor. Horrible service. I'll admit that I think the bad service was limited to us due to our waiter. The other waiters seemed cool and calm, but ours was a frazzled mess. Forgot our dinner side. Center poured every beer I ordered. Luckily, the food made up for it.

No nonsense Italian Steakhouse, I went on Valentine's Day 2015. I knew exactly what I was getting: big portions, tasty food, solid service and dark lighting. You can bring a date to this place and she'll love it, families can come too. It's basically a place that caters to all. Bravo!

What a great sports bar, I mean restaurant. Went here around 12:30 on a Wednesday and seated immediately -- don't get me wrong it was NOT empty, but the hostess was more than accomodating to my girls and I. I ordered the tomato bisque and the tavern burger and was blown away at how good it was, even if it took more than a little while to get to our table. Now on the atmosphere, it's your usual Chicago businessmen (I think I saw like one family) enjoying a quick bite before some contract gets signed. Definitely recommend for anyone visiting Chicago.

They carted around a platter with meats on it. Surreal to see that lobster is actually a blue-green color. The server was prompt and efficient, the Harvey Wallbangers were edgy, and the steak was rare just like I like it. I had the 18oz aged ribeye and it was just as phenomenal as the sever claimed it would be. I'm impressed! And Harry Caray would be proud. :)

Okay, so I'm a tourist. What of it? Tourist or local, Harry Caray's is fun and the food is a home run. No hum drum business trip this time! No siree. Instead, on the first day of our business trip, four of us pack into what may have been the world's smallest taxi and hustle on over to a local tourist destination for baseball fanatics who are hungry for some serious eats. I'm a baseball fan. I have a team. I have a team hat. However, I'm just a sunny day fan, meaning that I won't head to the park in the rain. I don't hover around a tele at home just to watch the game. Generally, I'd call myself a fan 'light.' All that just to say that I had no idea who Harry Caray was. Whoa. Hold on. I can hear you from here! Now I know who he is. After all, didn't I say that I'm just a sunny day fan? So, I was surprised to see all of the baseball paraphernalia when we walked into the lobby. Somehow the volume of memorabilia doesn't detract from the steakhouse feel. Harry Caray's is a nice blend on solid dining experience and touristy baseball geekdom. We did ogle the photos on the wall. I sat right under a photo of Pete Rose. Yes, I do know who he is! As a hungry and thirsty group, we got right down to business. We ordered a bottle of Drycreek Merlot (aside: if you are Sidney, I didn't order). Not bad for a few folks out on a business dinner. We started with two caprese salads to whet our appetites. Then, we split two sides served family style: creamed spinach and mashed potatoes. I had the New York strip with Gorgonzola cheese sauce. Right about here is where I begin to reminisce as I remember how perfectly cooked, slightly charred, and lovingly smothered in Gorgonzola this steak was. Oh, yeah, and my friends enjoyed their meals of meatballs, Chicken Vesuvius (apparently a special item on the menu), and a filet. This is the way to start a business trip: good food, a fun place, and business peers who like to eat as much as I do. I get it now, Harry. Take me out to the ball game!

Disappointing, the waiter forgot the wedge salad and a friend's glass of wine. He didn't really seem to care about that, or that we were even there. My medium filet was medium rare. Pretty hefty price for the experience.

Above average. Friendly service, good filet mignon, good crab dip, ok crab cake, ok calamari. Very accommodating - went on a Monday and was able to secure a table for 13.

Damn. Got taken here for a birthday dinner and it's not so much a dinner so much as what a meal in Chicago is supposed to be. Walking in, a bust of the great announcer himself, surrounded by Chicago history and memorabilia, including the remains of the infamous "Bartman Ball" which the restaurant famously exploded. Surrounding Caray's bust is a photo of the Chicago famous and powerful who have visited here, everyone from President Obama to world-famous athletes and actors, to an intriguing juxtaposition of photos of Rahm "The Mayor" Emanuel, near John "The Mayer" Mayer. The wait staff is very attentive, taking care to ensure each steak was suited to each person's taste. I had a 16 oz New York Strip cooked to perfection. There's really no other word for it. I usually eat red meat with a sauce. I didn't even need it. It was fantastic. I ate the whole thing. The sides are pretty spectacular too, and in heaping helpings. Each one is easily sufficient to feed 3 people, so order up and share around the table!

My boyfriend's work party was here and we had a private room. We chose the filet mignon. It was big. The whole table ordered medium rare. Mine was flat and not a round rump on top. I knew that something was wrong right away. As I cut into the steak it was tough. I took a bite and it was stringy. My cut was all wrong. No one else got a cut like mine.....hmmm, am I that darn unlucky??? I didn't complain because it was a company party and his boss was at same table. Plus, I filled up on appetizers there. Boyfriend gave me half of his steak. BEWARE, check your filet. It should be round on top and if not send it back. Do not take a flat top filet. Service was very good.

They have great chips here as a free appetizer and the service was fantastic. I ordered the chicken vesuvio and it was just okay, nothing special about it. Normally in a steakhouse I wouldn't order anything but beef but this place has more of a bar feel than a steakhouse and the menu said the dish was rated as the best chicken vesuvio in the city according to Chicago Tribune. Also it was a bit pricey for the fare but that is pretty standard for this neighborhood.

Super fresh bread! I had the mac and cheese and mashed potato sides and they were filling and delicious. It's a little bit on the pricey side but there's nothing really to do about that. Our server was also really wonderful and quick with the wit. I will probably only be returning if he serves us.

We came here for a holiday work party. The food was great but the service & seating was God awful. There were around 14 of us. We'd made reservations well in advance. When we got there, there wasn't a table ready for us. They then placed us at a makeshift table (comprised of several small tables) in a corner of the restaurant. It was so ridiculous, I basically sat with my back to the wall & had to have other people in my party stand up and move if I had to use the restroom. The staff also seemed a bit unfriendly for the amount of money we were spending. I would not go back here unless someone else begged me to.

Very trendy and hip place. Steak was very good, but ordered medium rare and it came out medium Liked the garlic mashed potatoes as a side Caesars salad was ok but need higher quality anchovies. Great place but really needs to step it up a few notches.

I was pretty excited to eat here because my boyfriend raved about it, and it looked pretty cool, but $60 later for a lunch I took 6 bites of left me a little upset......I'm not sure if I ordered the wrong thing, or the food just doesn't meet my standards... They bring you fresh chips to start...LOVE I was unsure what to order so I took a suggestion from the waitress who stated that the Holy Cow burger was the most popular thing on their lunch menu....well, not for me...it was just a burger....nothing special. I took two bites and that was enough of that. My brother actually just ate the leftovers or should I say fullovers since the entire meal was packaged. I forgot to mention, they charged me 75 CENTS to change my bun from an egg bun to a pretzel roll. It's not about the money...come on, you can't substitute a bun?????? I also ordered Mac N Cheese because I've been on this kick lately and it wasn't special either. It was made with smoked gouda cheese and I ate it because I was hungry, not because I enjoyed it. My boyfriend on the other hand got lucky. He had a great Caesar salad (who could possibly mess that up) and a prime rib au jus sandwich which was phenomenal. It melted in your mouth. I only took a bite because I didn't want to eat his whole lunch, but if I am ever forced to return, I will certainly be ordering that. Service was good. We had two waiters and both were attentive. Needless to say, for what this lunch cost me, it did not satisfy. I was expecting a little more creativity in the menu.

Update: While my recent visit to Harry Caray's left me beyond turned-off and disappointed, the GM personally responded to our lack-luster review & it was a breath of fresh air - it has revitalized my opinion of this local landmark. We will return, because honestly, the food is wonderful and, typically, the service & personality of the staff is impeccable.

Yeah, I know, how worked up can you get over a restaurant once owned by a beer-swilling Chicago baseball announcer? Is it a shrine to the immortal Harry? Oh, heck yeah. But what better way to remember the man than with one incredible 45-day dry-aged prime New York strip? They'll try to upsell you to the bone-in dry-aged ribeye, which is probably fantastic - but when I order a dry-aged steak, it's gonna be either a porterhouse or a strip. So, for five bucks less, the strip it was. And what a strip! It was broiled perfectly (if very slightly over-salted, but I can forgive that any day). The steak was accompanied with roasted garlic mashed potatoes, which were quite serviceable (although apart from the obvious freshness, not particularly memorable). The Caesar salad that started things off was one of the best I've had in a restaurant that wasn't prepared tableside, and I highly recommend it. What sets Harry's apart, though, is the ambience. Imagine a 2,500-square foot tavern (with reasonable prices to match) and an OUTSTANDING wait staff, but with the menu of a super-high end steakhouse. Special mention to my waiter Collin, who has mastered the skill of being there whenever you need him but absent when you don't. Given my experiences at another Chicago restaurant with terrible service that I have reviewed elsewhere, and how easy Collin made giving outstanding service seem, I'll definitely ask for him on my next trip to Harry Caray's.

This was a random find. We were looking for a place to eat before a concert on Friday and this was the only decent restaurant than had less than an hour wait that wasn't blaring music in the dining area. The bar was packed and loud so we waited, checking out the pictures and memorabilia. Watched some folks who were already partying take pics with the bust and the bull. The dining area was nice and comfortable. Server came out to show us about a dozen cuts of meat including lobster tail. This is a high-end steakhouse, the entree is just the meat, you have to order the sides separate. The cuts are huge. I think the smallest steak was 9 ounces, most were 14-20 ounces. The drink menu is extensive, perhaps too many choices, including several local brews. And you get a full glass of wine for your money, not a tiny 2-3 ounce glass like at some places. Everything was delicious. Fresh bread and real butter. Best brussel sprouts I've ever had, broccoli was steamed perfectly. They assume you want your meat rare to medium rare, which was fine by us. The meat and fish were cooked just right. The veal was tender like you read about. Salmon could have maybe used another 30 seconds, but that may be personal taste, it was still excellent. We were too full for dessert. Our server was unobtrusive, the busboy kept the water glasses full. They had no problems splitting up the check afterward. There is an attendant in the men's room. He's got a good singing voice and is eager to share a story or two. This place can be a splurge so bring along some friends who appreciate food and a nice glass of wine. I'd recommend a reservation.

For a place that could potentially be deemed a "tourist trap", I was skeptical. But I'm glad we put our skepticism aside. Went there twice on a recent business/family visit and loved it both times. Lunch was filling with oversized sandwiches (try the Chicken Parm) and Dinner even better with steaks that lived up to a "steakhouse" reputation. The New York Strip was terrific and done perfectly (juicy and easy to eat). What keeps it from 5 stars is 1) it was a little too loud when we went and the lights were kept so dim it was almost tough to read the menu and 2) my companion's steak was definitely more on the medium well to well-done side, not medium as ordered. But staff was very good and overall this is a great choice for business or to take the family out on vacation. All will fit right in.

This restaurant was located across the street from our Marriott hotel. The building is so big and stands out so I was tempted to give it a try and I am glad that we did. For our last meal on our family trip to Chicago we ventured into Harry Caray's for lunch. The place is loaded with sports memorabilia. Looking around after being seated you could see that this place was old time steak house not modern trendy. I liked this atmosphere. White tablecloths, waiters wearing aprons. The atmosphere wasn't the highlight the food was. Everyone found something on the menu that they wanted to try. My wife and I selected a cheeseburger and it was simply the best burger that I have ever eaten. If I were to stay in town a few more days I would have loved to have tried the place for dinner.

Hmmm. So typically, a big, tourist-ridden sports bar isn't my scene, but for a few post-dinner drinks on a soggy evening, Harry Caray's happened to be 'round the corner. A spot at the crowded (and LOUD) bar was difficult to come by, so we squeezed in sideways which allowed for just a few inches between us. Aren't you glad you use Dial®? Beer selection was okay, nothing special on tap, just the usual domestic suspects and some Goose Island. That's fine because otherwise I'd forget what 312 tastes like! Good luck getting a bartender's attention. Double-fisting is highly suggested. The washrooms are very nice... and I owe a server a drink for pointing out the toilet paper that had taken refuge on my shoe :)

Great place to eat! Go here have a few drinks before you sit down at the bar with some of the best bartenders in town. The service here is excellent and the wine list isnt half bad either. Before you choose your dinner take a good look at the steak tray and decide which one you want I love the bone in ribeye here, and they also have some Kobe here that is so amazing. All the sides are great and so is the ravioli app. The Lamb chops here are "to die for" as one of the diners with me exclaimed Spend a little money and have a great experience.

We were hooked up with a reservation at this place via one of my husband's execs who happens to be one of the investors for Harry Caray's, and it was a steakhouse that was exactly what I expected and I was a litle underwhelmed with the overall experience. Being a Texas native, I love red meat and have experienced plenty of steakhouses across the board! I ordered a filet mignon with a gorgonzola crust, medium rare. It was not very juicy and lacked flavor, but was not bad. I had just eaten at Wildfire the night before and felt that the menu at Harry Caray's lacked variety. Maybe it just wasn't the place I could appreciate since I am not a huge baseball fan, but if we are talking just food and experience, I give it an average rating. Wahhhh wahhh.

Hmmm I don't understand the hype of this place. Had a party here with work and I wasn't impressed. We had a standing buffet. The food was so so. They had this macaroni and cheese balls that I kept on eating - probably because nothing else tasted better and/or I was tipsy and had a munchy. Other than that there was nothing else. We had opened bar and the bartender was very nice and friendly. He dealt with us pretty well and gave us "drink suggestions." I'd give the bartender a 5/5. Maybe I need to try a sit down meal here before I can write a better review.

Great Steak house, i got there really late one night, ate at the bar. Just expecting to get some food, but what a pleasant surprise. I ordered the prime rib, it was thick and way larger than i expected, but after cutting away the fat, it was a great steak. Even the mash potatoes was awesome. I wished there were more variety with beer though.

So I have only been here once, but I have to write about it because I got the BEST Prime RIb Au Jus Sandwich I've ever had in my life. I figured, hey it's labelled a steakhouse, I should get some beef, and boy am I glad I did! I highly recommend it. Also, this place was absolutely empty on a Sunday pre-Cubs game and it's pretty cool to see the "Holy Cow!" and check this restaurant out if only for the above-mentioned sandwich and the ambiance.

My sister's friend swears that Harry Caray's has the best steak in Chicago, so I was curious to find out how true that really was since I had only been here previously for lunch and didn't really remember their steak being that fabulous. We came for dinner and she started off with their soup of the day, a chicken rice concoction and I had their mixed greens salad. We shared a filet mignon and a chicken vesuvio. We both felt that the filet was mediocre and nothing terribly special and if anything, the chicken vesuvio was juicy and delicious. Overall, a decent experience - very crowded on a Monday evening but service was still quick and friendly. I still think that Harry Caray's is a touristy spot that is a bit on the overpriced side. For our starters, entrees, and a glass of wine (for the sister), the bill was about $100.

  • Charles J.

If you're looking for a "touristy" spot with decent food, Harry Caray's just may be your place. I've eaten dinner there several times over the years so I think I'm in a position to give it an objective review. Pros: Fantastic baseball memorabilia all over the restaurant and bar that illustrates nicely, Harry's career and also many of the "stars" who have graced his restaurant over the years. If you're a fan of baseball, you'll love the decor and atmosphere. Heck, you'll like it even if you're not. Very cool vibe. I really like the Chicken Vesuvio at Harry's. I've ordered it twice and both times I found it to be excellent. The other two times I ordered steaks. Nothing bad. Nothing memorable. I would highly recommend the Vesuvio, however. Servers have been very friendly and attentive each time I've dined there. Cons: It's touristy. I prefer a place a little more off the beaten path. You can usually count on a large crowd of out of towners on a weekend. I get why they're there but, more often than not, it's just not my kind of place. Probably because it is such a tourist destination, I believe the prices are a tad higher - for what you get - than at similar restaurants. I certainly don't mind paying a higher price for dinner but I just come away feeling I didn't really get my money's worth. All in all, three solid stars. Nothing bad but I could name several places I'd prefer for the same or less money.

    (3)
  • Barack O.

Way overpriced. I'd double my star rating if menu prices were halved. But as it is, there is nothing particularly upscale about this upscale-casual steakhouse, except maybe for the bathroom attendant. Finances notwithstanding, my food (salad, steak, and dessert cake) was decent. Service was unenthusiastic. Decor, while interesting in spots (notably the "holy cow"), is unspectacular on the whole. As you can see, this isn't the greatest restaurant to begin with, and when we add prices to the mix, Harry Caray's represents a phenomenally poor value. But there is one good thing about this restaurant: it's conveniently downtown, nearby many other restaurants that will leave you more satisfied in all respects: price, food, service, _and_ decor.

Harry Caray's is touristy and the steaks are pricey, but overall, the experience was decent. The place is filled with Chicago and Cubs memorabilia, but the decor is pretty plain and the tables are pretty crammed in. As for the food, it varies. Started off with a fried platter of appetizers - mozzarella, ravioli, and calamari, which was good. The minestrone was ok, but not special. The menu is extensive with pasta, Italian dishes, and steaks. The steaks, which are their pride, were just ok. An interesting choice, though, was the Chicken Vesuvio, which is supposedly the best in Chicago. And although it was simple, it was tasty. Not sure if I would come back, but for any Cubs fan, it is a "must see."

    (3)
  • Chris C.

This place is way overrated. Had dinner here and was not impressed with the food or service at all. To start, I had the breaded mozzarella with marinara sauce. It was okay but just okay. For the main course, ordered the spaghetti with meat sauce and while the portions where huge, the food just wasn't as tasty. Service was also hit and miss. The waiter interrupted our conversation a few too many times for our liking. Also, he showed his other tables the steak selection but didn't show us the selection. The ambiance is nice, reminds me a lot of the Chicago Firehouse but with some pretty cool sports memorabilia. However, its a lot more casual and touristy/suburby feel. It was nice to check out to see what the hype was about but for the price, there are a number of restaurants that are way better.

  • Rachel F.

A bit overpriced but pretty fantastic. The sashimi grade tuna sandwich I had was lovely. Flavorful, fresh, super tender. Almost 20 bucks at lunch is too steep in my books. Salads were pretty much all over 10. Not anywhere near a cheap or quick lunch, but the service is pretty impeccable. They make you feel special and high end. If someone else is paying - go here!

    (4)
  • Mary G.

The building was really cool. I love all the old buildings in Chicago. I had the tilapia and my hubby had a burger. I noticed that our waiter was a lot more attentive to the guests who were ordering $40 steaks instead of us who were ordering cheaper meals. This is why I'm giving this place a 3 instead of a 4. It was a coincidence that my company's Chicago office was having their holiday party there the same night, so I stayed for that. The Cosmos were excellent. The lemon/vanilla cake (don't know the name of it) was excellent too!

Located downtown and close to the Chicago River, this restaurant is a great tribute to the Chicago legend who was the voice for the Cubs for many seasons. I went here during the lunch hour and really enjoyed my time there. The bar area was nice and clean, had a professional look to it, and is covered in Chicago sports memorabilia. The drink selection is very good, with plenty of liquors to choose from and wines as well. The beer selection is very good, and has many Chicago based beers as well- including private reserves from Goose Island. To eat I tried the Dutchie's Salad, which was made up with greens, walnuts, gorgonzola, apples, and pears with a raspberry vinaigrette. This was a great salad and I highly recommend it if you're looking for a lighter meal. I hope to comeback and report on the cuts sometime soon.

As you can see from previous review, I am a Harry Caray loyalist. I always recommend this place for steaks to anyone asking for a suggestion on a steakhouse. I've dined at least ten times in the past year. Food's still good, but the service of the waiters has seriously declined. I went on 2 occassions 2 weeks ago. On the first night, the waiter we had...well he just seemed like he was doing me a favor everytime I had a request. And I dont' make a lot of requests or complaints. He asked the tables around me if everything was ok and just passed mine up. I have no explanation. I can't remember his name. But if I'm seated at his table again, i'm asking for a change. Second night, the waiter was much better. Much more attentive...but here comes the rub. He actually seemed disappointed with a 20% tip. Looks like I have to qualify my recommendation of this place now. "Food's great, but service varies depending on who you get"...

Was right across from our hotel and we had a difficult time trying to decide where to eat,it was Sunday evening so we decided on Harry Caray's which had a diverse menu. Walked in and saw pictures of pro athletes and every slummy Chicago politician that has dined there. We got seated in the main dining room where the tables are about 6 inches from each other where you literary bump elbows with the party next to you. I ordered chicken parm and caesar salad and my wonderful girlfriend ordered beef bolognese. The salad was soggy and below average and the chicken parm was average. My girlfriends dinner looked good she ate about half without saying too much about it. The servers move you in and out we were done with our last dinner in Chicago in about 30 to 35 min. Service was good but they're trained to move you thru. If your in Chicago do yourself a favor and find a better option.

Wouldn't go back due to overcooked steak...at a steakhouse!? That's really where my review could end. I order steak the same way every time: Medium-Rare, unless the chef prefers more rare. My steak was pink, but edging toward gray, and totally dry. My friend, who orders steak medium, said it is what he expected of his own. His was well done. There are so many good restaurants in Chicago, I wouldn't waste my time or money on a steak here. Also the wine list was sub-par for an "Italian Steakhouse," a distinction the waitress reinforced. I was the only person drinking wine so I had to order by the glass, and the only Italian option was one Chianti. If you go to Harry Caray's b/c you are a Cubs fan, some short notes: Contrary to other reviews I thought the service was fine. The staff were all knowledgeable about the menu and attentive. The prices are as expected for a higher end steak house. There is plenty of sports memorabilia, if that is what you want in a steakhouse. Our sides were very good.

Still a Chicago classic restaurant and sports bar. Authentic old timey atmosphere that's becoming harder to find. Caesar was a pretty good starter with ample Parmesan but maybe lacked a bit of anchovy. Aged rib eye was cooked to perfection and very tender with a super flavorful seared crust. Great wine. Service was outstanding.

We had the pleasure of hosting a wedding rehearsal dinner October 18 at Harry Caray"s on Kinzie. We contacted Brad who put us in touch with Christine and Andy. They were very helpful in the planning and menu selection. Due to our schedule, we had limited time to spend on our dinner. Upon arrival to our banquet room we were greeted by the bartender and wait staff. Everyone raved about their food and restaurant's decor. The service was very prompt and friendly. The bartender was very god and it seemed no one had to wait for drinks. Prices were very reasonable for the quality of food and service that we received. Over the weekend our guests repeatedly complimented us on our choice of Harry Caray's. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would.

Holy cow! I would expect a sports bar atmosphere. I was surprised with the white tableclothed, fine dining experience. If you are a baseball fan, this is most defintely a place that you want to visit. Upon entering, your eyes immediately travel to the Harry Carey bronzed (?) head statue in the lobby. On the wall behind it, are photographs of celebrities and other renowned individuals posing with the statue. Presidents, authors, actors, and a signed picture of Oprah Wimphrey that her publicist probably mailed. There is just an abundance of baseball paraphernalia to begin commenting on. It's everything that you would expect, and then more. The service was extremely accomodating. My group had made late(r) reservations, so by the time we finished our meal, the restaurant appeared vacated. But when we first arrived, they appeared very busy. This did not slow our service, as our waiter was extremely attentitive and accomodating. Harry's has an array of beer and lagers on tap, along with wine and hard drinks. The menu was comprehensive. I ordered the $50 dry aged New York strip, along with a side of toasted brussel sprouts. The steak was perfectly cooked medium rare. The sprouts were very tasty. My lager washed it down perfectly. Although the tab was expensive, this is just the place that you want to go to when visiting for vacation. Cannot wait to take my fiancee next year.

I'm not a huge baseball fan, but this place is pretty amazing. A lot of memorabilia and great food. It took a while to get a table without reservations, but it just provided more time to cozy up to the bar. They were really busy and therefore the service was *meh*, but overall it's a good place to eat if you have never been there.

Had a pretty good experience here the first time I went and was pleasantly surprised as I felt like it would be overrated. I had the fettuccine with shrimp and scallops and it was delicious!! Also tried the sesame crusted tuna and crab cake appetizers and those were good but kind of expensive for what you're getting. Second time I went, we tried the calamari which was pretty tasty but when I got the same pasta dish, I was disappointed as it didn't taste as good as the first time. Also had the tiramisu dessert which was just okay. I can't really see myself going back after that as before the food could have been worth the price but not anymore.

On a recent trip to Chi-town the hubs and I had to visit this legendary restaurant. We made a reservation a month in advance and arrived a few minutes prior to our 8pm rezzie to be told it would be "a few minutes". It took almost an additional half hour to be sat with no acknowledgeable nor apology from hostess nor management as to why we were a half hour late to be sat. Very quaint décor, vast menu. We shared the calamari which was a bit chewy (I'm always in search of the best calamari when we travel, this wasn't it). The waiter had zero personality and seemed irritated that we asked to share a salad prior and our sides with our filet. Both had filets that were good, creamed spinach was soupy but decent in taste. Did have a solid wine selection by the glass that was reasonable priced. Our bill before tip and tax was approx. $125. With so many choices in Chicago not sure we'll be back. Not a bad experience just nothing memorable nor unique.

This restaurant is cool. It has all sorts of museum quality baseball memorabilia and as you might expect, it is a monument to Chicago baseball with special emphasis on Mr. Carrey. So from the perspective of sports history, Americana and nostalgia its great. The service was good as was the food (lunch). My cup of chili was particularly enjoyable. I'd try it again - it's right across the street from the Marriott SpringHill Suites.

Harry Caray's has some great steak. I came here w/ my family and the waitstaff were superb. Everyone did their best to accommodate us even w/ our crying 18 month old. We started w/ the Baked Ravioli w/ cheese. Probably the crunchiest baked ravioli we've had. We already knew how good cause of Taste of Chicago in case you're looking for it. I ordered the asparagus which was OK. Nothing special, but decent especially if you're looking for asparagus. Garlic mashed potatoes were delicious. I give it an above average, but still not the best I've had. It was the Kansas City steak which blew me away. It was so melt in your mouth delicious, I was impressed. A very good steak in my top 5 (granted I'm still a steak noob so I'm trying to add more steak places to my belt). My wife ordered the Filet which was real good, but not in my top 5. Valet is only $10 if you're there less than 3 hours so I'd hit that up.

On a recent Sunday afternoon, my wife and I decided to take our two-year old daughter for a walk and find a place for lunch near our condo in the loop. Because everything in the area on the south side of the river was jam-packed with tourists and people crammed around the Transformers 3 movie set, we decided to walk north of the river and find a place. It was getting past Lizzy's normal lunch time, so we settled on popping in to Harry Caray's. The place was fairly empty, and when we were seated in the main dining room there were only 2 other tables filled at the time (about 12:15). The hostess and the front-line server who came to our table to take our drink orders were both friendly and attentive, which unfortunately set us up for disappointment with Carlos, our real server. Because we were here for lunch, we opted for sandwiches instead of anything heavier. The food was decent. My wife and I both ordered do-it-yourself sandwiches from the "burger bar" section of the menu (I ordered a chicken sandwich and she ordered a veggie burger). Lizzy, by the way, got a plate full of all white meat chicken fingers. Total damage was $35, without tip, which I thought was reasonable given the location and the tourist-mecca status this place enjoys. Why the two-star rating then? The aforementioned Carlos. Carlos stopped at our table once. Yes, once. Once to take our order, and never again. After taking our orders, as he was walking back to the computer terminal to put our order in, we heard him talking to the water and bread servers (you know, the good servers), complaining about something having to do with our orders and putting them into the system. Of course, because there were now only three occupied tables in the entire room, we heard it pretty clearly. The food came out, we ate, we finished, we waited. And we waited. And we waited. A good 30 minutes after we put our napkins up on our plates, and Carlos never once even made eye contact with our table to see if we needed anything (like a refill on my soda that had been empty for almost an hour, or the bill, which usually comes after a meal). The only time Carlos came close to the table was immediately after the food got there, and that was only a very quick "how is everything" without even stopping to wait for an answer. So there you have it. Decent food + horrible service = 2 stars. The fact that the dude couldn't even look at the table and see if we needed anything made him a useless server in my book. The facts that I never got a single refill on my drink, and that he made us wait for over 30 minutes for the bill (I finally had to flag down one of the bread and water guys to grab Carlos) is just plain unacceptable. No need to ever come back here if this is what I can expect.

I come to Chicago a few times a year for work and I always stay across the street at the Westin. Harry Caray's has become a tradition for the team and we always have a good meal here. The service is also always tremendous. If you have to wait for your table and happen to be in the bar area, try the chips, they are great!

Good quality steaks. I had the dry-aged NY strip. The waiter was not only very knowledgable about the process of wet and dry aging, but described the different cuts wonderfully to everyone at the table. When my steak arrived (I ordered rare), it erred a little to the side of medium rare, but medium rare is certainly a good enough way to eat a steak. The sides (as per the usual in a real steak house) were kept simple and were very well prepared. The creamed spinach was excellent without the inclusion of anything fancy (I'm staring at you, cloves and bay leaves, creamed spinach is not supposed to be fiddly). The mashed potatoes were creamy and rich. The wine list was good and we were able to find wines that matched well with each type of steak ordered. It was a great experience, and although the restaurant was very busy, the waitstaff was attentive. A word about the ambience. One would expect that it would be full of crazy stuff and have a very touristy feel to it, but Harry Caray's appeared to be full of locals (lawyers and the like who work in the area). There was a lot of memorabilia, but it wasn't intrusive. All in all it was a low key, casual and yet great place to have a steak.

We wanted a nice dinner after spending the day touring Chicago. we came upon HC and we are glad we did. The service was spot on. Our waitress was pleasant, professional and accommodating. We started with the burratta and it is a good start. Next was a large Caesar salad shared. Entree was the smoked chicken ravioli. Well done, a nice rose sauce which was. Very flavourful. A apple tart with vanilla bean ice cream finished our meal. Overall, with the memorabilia and Harry's folklore history, this is a very good restaurant .

YUM!!! Went here for NYE dinner with another couple. The ladies got the $60 prix fixed menu - 4 courses of seafood goodness. Crabcake app was delish, lobster bisque heavenly, half lobster was YUMMY and chocolate dessert was OK. The guys of the group both got the steak. Ribeye was DELISH, kansas city was OK, I love fat! So give me marbelling over meat any day!

Came here for lunch. Huge portions, food is not bad, but nothing special. Seemed a little expensive for what it is and a little touristy. Since I know Chicago has a ton of great dining options, I'd probably go somewhere else before coming back here again.

  • Joanne K.

Yum yum yum! I was kinda surprised that for such a pricey place that it is so casual. I had the ribeye steak, twice baked potato, creamed spinach, and creme brulee. Everything was cooked to perfection! Our waiter, Talon, was a pleasure too. I would go back here again on my trip, except it's quite pricey. There a lot of memorabilia all over and that was pretty neato to look at. Took away 1 star because it is super noisy and the tables are way too close. It's like a maze to get from 1 side to the other.

Been here several times for lunch and I keep forgetting to yelp... That said, other than being a little high on the price side (they get a little more for the name) we all really enojyed our meal here. Service was top notch (as expected) for was prompt well cooked and high quality. We were never left wanting, our server and his team were personable everytime, talked about Chicago lore (which is fun since we are relatively new in town). Not sure why this never makes the Top places to take kids in Chicago but it should. They were so accomdating on the kids meals both times we had them there. The cow, the pictures all lead to keeping a varied age group of kids occupied....

There is certainly a charm to Harry Caray's... His face is everywhere, his ridiculous windowpane glasses, his boozeblasted features, his lips like the neck of an old t-shirt. And the food is decent: the burger I had was pretty tasty. But here's the thing: I am constitutionally opposed to a $15 burger, and no local celebrity, (and aren't they all local, to an extent?), no matter how widely publicized, is worth the chock in pride of paying for a $15 burger. I wouldn't pay $15 for a burger at William Shakespeare's Italian Steakhouse, Genghis Khan's Italian Steakhouse, Wyatt Earp's Italian Steakhouse.

Dinner here was really good! The service was terrific; although our waiter was a little difficult to find on occassion. Parking, like most places in Chicago, was also a bit of a challenge. You definitely need to try the Chocolate-covered Cherry Martini. For the true chocolate lovers, they have a baseball designed chocolate mousse that will put you in a comma. This place is a bit on the expensive side...at least for me. There were several groups (6+ people) having dinner at the same time. You definitely want to make reservations.

We arrived quite late and were the only ones in the restaurant, yet they treated us like royalty. Don, our wonderful waiter, was friendly, witty and fun. The food was excellent. I had the spaghetti and couldn't decide on meatballs or sausages, so Don suggested and delivered both. The girls had the seafood Cobb salad and loved it. I also had a corn chowder soup. Excellent taste, which was even better when Don comped it. We loved this place.

Outstanding in all areas! Been coming here for 10 years of business lunches and dinners. When I'm downtown for a lunch meeting, its my "goto place", whether I'm with clients or colleagues. At lunchtime, I prefer to sit in the bar area, Tracie is the waitress and Lupe is the waiter, both are top notch! Attention to detail abounds, ie: the bar is exactly 60 feet 6 inches long by design, same distance as MLB pitcher's mound to the plate. For a healthy lunch that satisfies I recommend the chicken chopped salad, its a monster. If you are really hungry, go with the Rigotini in Vodka Sauce and add the italian sausage. Slip in a Kettle One martini (dirty) and you are Rock Star!

Dining companions can certainly make or break a night on the town. But I have to say, a spotted cow with oversized glasses sure doesn't hurt either. Alas, the highlight of my visit to Harry Caray's. I tried the Chicken Vesuvio (according to the menu, it was voted best in the city, so how could I not?) - it was descent, though a bit salty. However, I'm never a fan of places that only have side options as ala carte. The prices are already high, and then they tack on $4 for broccoli? Ergh. The restaurant did have a pretty good deal going on that for $45 dollars you could get a salad, entrée (steak or fish) and dessert (key lime pie or flourless chocolate cake), so many of my compatriots opted for that choice. Most plates were empty, so either the group was so hungry they'd eat anything edible, or the food was pretty good. The beer options were slightly better than average, so hooray for that - though the service at the bar was pretty slow. Is it too much to ask to have a bartender that will acknowledge you within five minutes of walking up to the bar (especially when it's only half full)? Kind of annoying. Also, we were a large group, and had called in advance to book a table - not sure where the miscommunication was, but our group ended up on opposite sides of the main dining room, when we requested to be next to each other. Boo on that. Our waiter was fast and attentive - considering the large group, his ability to keep it all together was impressive. Overall, not bad, considering the tourist trap aspect of the place.

All I can say is eh. Happies: -Lots of stuff on the menu -Exciting-sounding meats for the carnivores ...And I have grasped at straws. This place was so unimpressive. Crappies: -Absolutely no substitutions on their pre-ordained entrees. Yes, a cup of soup is tremendously cheaper a la carte than a side of pasta salad. No, you cannot get soup instead of pasta salad. Yes, they will offer to sell you soup in addition to your meal. Yes, the pasta salad tastes of tin. Mainly, the food is too expensive for what you get. (The rest of my salmon burger + pasta salad went to a homeless couple on the bridge & I felt vaaguely like a jerk.) It's just some steakhouse. And you're not paying for stellar service either. Maybe this place holds some sort of wonder if you're very into Harry Caray the man, though there wasn't much in the way of a theme in the dining experience. Maybe you'll love it for a steak rubbed or aged in some exotic meated way... But I can't abide it for the price.

We just had some drinks and snacks at the bar, but thought this place was great. We got a big plate of homemade potato chips upon sitting down and the beers were icy cold. I don't even like potato chips very much, but these were amazing! Fun spot, can't speak for the dinners because we only had bar snacks and beers.

If you come to Harry Caray's (and you should), don't forget to take your picture with the bust of the famed baseball announcer. If you wind up being famous/infamous someday, you might just end up on the wall of celebrities that ranges from Obama to Bridget from "The Girls Next Door." Carnivores should definitely go for the steaks, but since I'm not so into the bloody pieces of meat thing I had the Chicken Vesuvio. It's one of their signature dishes, made with garlic, oregano and white wine. It was fine, nothing too special. But what did knock my socks off was the key lime pie! Normally, I prefer decadent chocolate concoctions for dessert, but this definitely took the cake, er, pie? I'm not making sense anymore...let's just say it was good! Upstairs is reserved for private parties, but there wasn't anything going on up there so they let us check it out. There's lots more baseball newspaper clippings, photos and vintage advertisements (my fave).

If you have the money-do it! All of the food is delicious and plentiful...Steaks? Good. Pastas? Good. Chips? Gooood... As a restaurant dining experience, the staff is top-notch, very attentive and very informative. The menu is huge...Everyone can find something on the menu. And the portions are huge as well...Easily go family-style and order a few dishes to share. Decor is great--sports/celebrity memorabilia. Yay! I'm a Cubs fan, so I definitely dig, but Sox fans shouldn't be offeneded as they are represented as well, along with the other Chicago teams and more! I've been in the bar area for drinks as well. I was impressed earlier this year when we were there during a Cubs/Sox game. The bar and all of the tables were full yet the waitstaff and bartenders were spot-on. Never an empty glass or empty bowl of chips...Oh, did I mention the chips? They're I believe house-made, kettle cooked, sooooo gooood. And they're complimentary. And very addictive. And cruchcy. Good times.

Awww sheesh. I guess I have to try Harry Caray's. Ach! Fifteen dollar burger! Cheapest thing on the menu! Ach! I've been roped into a dinner I can barely afford! As my wallet pinches my ass, prodding me to just put down the menu and walk out, I suck it up and order the fancy beef burger. I have a hunch that all the food is really good. I substantiated that hunch with the burger. Pepper crusted, Gorgonzola-topped, housed in a sturdy pretzel roll. Very well done, but probably not worth fifteen dollars. Maybe ten, or twelve. I was also disappointed that beers weren't a little cheaper during the middle of the week. In the end, I really hate being so attuned to value, but paying almost forty dollars after tip for a burger and a couple beers sets off many many fiscal alarms. In this economy... You'd figure the spirit of Harry Caray would cut the everyman a financial break from time-to-time. To help defray the cost, I gorged on bread and tasty kettle-cooked chips. All of this bitching notwithstanding, the service was prompt but not hovering. I enjoyed the experience and would love to go back, if I could afford to live like all those dudes who wear tailored suits and ties everyday. Someday...

Went there on Jul 6, 2012 with a party of 7 for 7pm dinner. We got there at 6:50 and they took us right to our table. Drinks selection good. Had some Australian Shiraz that was very good. The wait staff was very professional. My 2 kids (7 and 10 years of age) had burgers and loved them. My wife and I had steaks, which were great. (I had the bison.) My only complaint is the prices, which are probably in line with most Chicago steak houses. Why 8 oz. of bison has to cost $35 is beyond me. But all-in-all it's a great place. We'd go again.

I have to say I'm a fan of the bar area and the actual sit-down restaurant. Sometimes you can get worried that a place as famous as this can let it's quality slide. But I don't think that is the case here. I am constantly impressed with the level of good food and service I receive. Whether I am with a bunch of friends in shorts in the bar or sitting down for a nice dinner with my wife, the staff is always very nice. Also the food is always good. They do meat right here. Nothing super fancy, but done correctly.

Harry Caray's is the perfect over-the-top tourist trap restaurant, and that is precisely why my husband and I chose to eat there on our trip to Chicago last week. We only had 3 days to experience the city, and we wanted to include as many quintessential cliche Chicago moments as we could. Overall the food and service at Harry Caray's was solid, and while there really wasn't anything wrong, nothing stuck out to us as ohmygawd spectacular. My husband had the chicken parm, which was HUGE and oddly did not come with a side of pasta so it was just a big pile of chicken. I had pasta with shrimp and scallops that was very good but again did not knock my socks off. If we had not had steak the night before, we both would have gotten that because it seems like that is their specialty. If you want to be touristy and say you've "been there," I think you should do it. No one's going to judge you.

Good food, fair to poor service. Went twice in the same day for lunch & a snack & service was poor during lunch & fair at best during late afternoon. Mismanaged wait/service staff put too much "running" on the waitresses, when water & chip person had lots of down time. Long wait for food at the lunch visit, with crazy waits for drinks. Lunch waitress was completely overwhelmed while man in suit (manage?), walke casually in the area talking to guests. Afternoon waitress better server, but low on personality. Good food over all; a bit pricey, but it is downtown Chicago.

After a long unproductive day during my visit to Chicago we decided to venture into the nearest eatery we could find. Harry Caray's was a excellent choice. The decor the service and the FOOD was amazing! Not a big fan of the drinks but would still go back and tell others to try them out!

Went here the day after I wrote my initial review... I highly suggest to any seafood fan to try their YELLOWFIN TUNA that's Peppercorn Crusted Rare with Braised Swiss Chard and Blood Orange Reduction. That was copy and pasted directly from the menu and it was very unique. Very tasty.

This review is about our experience at the bar. We walked here from our hotel across the street (Amalfi) after our " Hotel Happy Hour". It was about 9:00 and we had calamari and a seafood gumbo and a couple of beers. The bartender was very friendly and the free homemade potato chips are incredible. The food was tasty and we hope to get back again soon to try the dinners.

My parents picked this place and I really didn't know what to expect. It is a bit of a tourist attraction, but that also meant that it was packed and had a fun atmosphere. The chips at the bar are very good and my parents claim worth the trip. We had an excellent server that was honest to us about sizes of portions and sides. I had the filet, my dad had a huge steak, and my mom had the chicken vesuivo. The chicken vesuivo was a massive portion, with a great taste. Both steaks were cooked correctly and enjoyed massively. As sides we had the spinach, as well as mushrooms and onions. Onions could have been sauteed a little longer. The spinach was delicious, but what isn't delicious after being cooked with butter and garlic? The best thing we had and the thing you MUST order is the polenta. It was an amazing dish and I have thought about it since then. While I wouldn't suggest this place to my girlfriends for a dinner out, I could see this being a place to take out of towners, as it is fun and an energetic place. Also would be good if you had a few kids that you didn't want to take someplace where they might be frowned upon.

We came here for our anniversary and had a great meal. When we made the reservation we noted that it was our anniversary and they congratulated us as the hostess table and bought over two complementary glasses of champagne. That was a very nice touch! Our food was delicious. I got the 9 oz. fillet with truffle butter and my boyfriend got the Kansas City Strip. Mine was a better cut, yet his had better flavor. Both were fantastic. For a side we got the crab mac and cheese and ate up every bite! Great meal, great service.

you must try their dry age steak! so my friends and I went there on a Friday evening, we had some red wine, the baby spinach the steaks and the fudge ice cream dessert. overall, we had a wonderful experience! the restaurant is quite elegant, food not much expensive, and Lisa, the lady who helped us go through the menu, was very caring and helpful. I tried the dry age New York strip as recommended by her and it was amazing!

Went here for my mom's bday last month (she picked it). Gotta love the Chicago feel and decor, but the food is really just average. I had the halibut, which was fine, nothing special. I think everyone else was satisfied with their meals but no one was raving that it was the best ever. Our server also seemed to be a bit overwhelmed with our party of 8... not really sure why though. Anyway, good option for those that want some Chicago vibe with their dinner.

First day in Chicago and after a full day of walking around we were beat. Looking for a beer and some dinner we decided to go to Harry's place mainly because it is right across the street from our hotel. There is a sports bar on one side which was pretty loud but fun with tv for the games. The other side has 2 dining rooms with normal noise level, white tablecloth dining, a cool ambience of old architecture, lighting that looked like it was from the 30s, and a black & white small tile floor. Lots of framed memorabilia on the walls but authentic, not tacky. Menu is same in bar &dining room, with some pasta, chicken, seafood &of course, steaks. I noticed a lot of diners eating seafood, but everything looked good. Its all a la carte with sides large enough to share. I had chicken vesuvio and it was great. My wife had a crab cake & pronounced it good (which is high praise from a Baltimore native)! Portions were large, good selection of draft beers and an interesting selection of bottled beers. Solid wine list. Our service was excellent, water glasses were refilled without reminders, & our food came to the table nice & hot from the kitchen. A little pricey but average for the area. Touristy? Somewhat but still a good choice for a nice dinner out.

The food is overpriced and the service was horrible. Banking on the location of Navy Pier as some right to overcharge is silly. However, the waitress I had was so bad the bartender was doing her job. She took my order and did very little else. Had to ask the bartender for a refill and got no napkins for a very messy and poorly made sandwich. I was never asked if I wanted anything else and I was actually going to have desert. As someone moving back to Chicago I have been seeking good places and I know that this isnt one.

Allright, 4 1/2 stars. Great menu with many great sounding dishes from hamburger on up to prime steaks. I opted for the special pistachio encrusted scallops. Oh, yummy! They also gave me no grief when I changed the mashed potatoes from pesto to garlic. Wife had a very good (Kobi Beefesque, since they can't call it that since it's from Australia, not Japan) hamburger. At $14.95 it better be really, really good and it was. However I was expecting the guy from the Miller Beer commercial to come rolling in and take away all of the Miller Lite Beer. We ordered the Cream Spinach. Yikes! Best ever! It actually tastes like fresh spinach and also they seem to use real cream, not some sauce. Wait staff was friendly and attentive. We went on a Wednesday night, so not too crowded. Server explained crowds down a bit since they opened a restaurant at Navy Pier and since there were no big conventions in town which tend to draw large groups to this place. Can't wait to go back now that I know there is a chance to get in here for dinner without an hour wait.

We had my team's meeting 2 weeks ago in Chicago...so I decided to take them to dinner. Unfortunately, they were not willing to venture too far from downtown, so the choices were down to Ditka's Steakhouse and Harry Caray's. (And yes, we ended going to both!) Alas...when we got there for dinner, the wait was 35 minutes for a table...so we went to the bar to get drinks first. As far as the bar goes...it was crowded (full of tourists, go figure) so it was quite packed in there. We got our drinks regardless, and the bartender was quite friendly. When it came to the meal at the steakhouse...it was ok. Yup...a mere ok. Thankfully it was Restaurant week also...so I went with the prix fixe menu. Considering this as a downtown establishment, I was expecting a better served steak. Mine was overseasoned and overcooked on one side. Somewhat disappointing. Thankfully, the chocolate dessert made up for the steak, but if they are going to charge those prices, I would expect better cooked steaks.

Food is only ok. i am sure they gave me quality meat but execution was not to my liking. there's more celebrity than food here. I also did not have make a reservation, nor to wait in line to get seated on new year's eve (that could only mean one thing). valet parking or walking are the best options to this restaurant.

This place is a really nice steakhouse if you are ever in Chicago. I've had the same waiter 2x and he's awesome (can't remember his name but he had a top-shelf waxed moustache and seriously informed). They do very good steaks and above par italian. I remember the filer mignon to be pretty good but theyre prime rib and eggplant parmesan is amazing. Also the antipasto plate is very very nice. Great beer and wine selection, and they got a few SERIOUS top shelf bourbons to go with your steak. I advise hitting this place up mid week where you don't get the crouds.

I ordered a rib-eye steak with creamed spinach. One of the juiciest and most flavorful steaks that I have ever had. The ambience is business casual. If you like baseball, steaks and apple pie, this place is for you. Great place to hang out with the boys for a steak and beers........wine for me.......and chat about business, baseball and girls. God bless the USA and places like Harry Caray's......simply American, simply outstanding!

HOLY COW! That's what i say to the fantastic baseball memorabilla displayed at Harry Caray's. All the autographed baseballs, bats and uniforms add to this already festive Chicago tradition. Sometimes it seems like Harry himself is leading the dinners in a rousing rendition of take me out to the ball game. Too bad the food wasn't as inspiring. I had a rib eye steak there that wasn't Chicago worthy. And most of the food was too greasy for my taste. It wasn't awful mind you, just a little dissapointing. But a great bar!

this was my third time at harry caray's and my boyfriend's second. we couldn't remember if the food was good or not but he loved the kettle chips so much that we went back. 60 bucks later, no kettle chips and a more-than-likely microwaved meal we were highly disappointed. i ordered the seafood cobb salad and for $18 it left a lot to be desired. very small. my boyfriend ordered the chicken parm and we are almost positive that it had a brief stint in the microwave. the chicken was rubbery and he said the noodles weren't even done. i will say, the service was good. although, it didn't make up for the food.

I had a New York Strip steak. My friend had the Porterhouse. We both loved our meals. It was steak-perfection. Dress is casual--we were dressed like tourists. The prices are high and you do not get a side dish with your steak. The service was "old school" excellence. I highly recommend a trip to Harry Caray's.

If you ever need a space for a wedding, the second floor of Harry Caray's might be the place for you! My husband and I were looking at venues for our wedding and Harry Caray's was perfect for us from the moment we saw it. We wanted a place where we could have the ceremony and reception and that had food on premises. And if you didn't already know, their food is some of the best in Chicago. Mandy Jezewski was our contact there for the duration of all our planning and she was fabulous. Prompt in her phone calls and emails with us. She could picture what we wanted and helped to make it be the perfect day for us. All night long our guests raved about how good of a time they were having and how good everything looked. A big thank you to Mandy and all of her staff!

Stopped in here for a few drinks after a concert at the House of Blues this past Friday. We actually went to get food and drinks... but they were closing the kitchen as we got there... So we saw people GET food, but we couldn't get our own. But, the stars are for the service. Our waitress was nice and very attentive. We saw some people get some chips after the kitchen was closed and my friend asked about them - and the guy actually brought us over a bowl of them, so that was nice. It was kind of a weird experience because it was late and they were pretty much closing, but still, we enjoyed our drinks and had some good service. I'd go back for dinner and/or drinks sometime. We weren't there long but the impression was a good one!

I'm a frequent flier at Harry Caray's - working at the Mart, this is a frequent pick for our vendors. I've never had anything here but the lamb chops, and they are fabulous. My colleagues usually get the pork chops, and I always see a lot of clean plates when the meal is done. The staff is always very nice and the service is efficient. I saw Bill Kurtis here 2 weeks ago, so for that alone, I gave them an extra star because come on, it's Mr. Cold Case Files himself!

I always enjoy my experience at Harry Caray's, maybe because it's usually for a special occasion. The menu selection is very good. I've ordered everything from their famous Steak, to Chicken to Veal to Pasta and I've liked it all. The staff there is always accommodating. The sports bar area on the right of the entrance is a good hang out spot while you wait for a table. On occasion, it feels a little too overcrowded in the main seating area, but nothing too claustrophobic in nature.

Went there with friends during Chicago Restaurant Week. The food is okay...A little over-priced even for the pre-fixe menu...I ordered the salmon for main entree, it wasn't bad, but wasn't outstanding either. My guy friends got the prime rib and said they were so-so as well... The atmosphere is good though, very friendly and cozy, so if you are in the mood to grab a beer and watch some ball game, Harry Caray's is still a good place to go.

How have I never been to this mecca for Cubs fans before?! I probably avoided it due to that very fact. I deemed it touristy and not worth the visit. I had enjoyed Harry Caray's catering at events before though so when a friend suggested it for dinner I said "why not". Glad I tried it because I was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant now has a lovely outdoor patio (complete with overhead fans) and the large menu offers some wonderful fresh additions to the typical steakhouse. I was surprised by the pasta entree which the menu says is made fresh daily. I believe it! I had the spinach papperdelle pasta with tomatoes and a very good sausage. The portion was huge and I ended up eating my entree the next day as well. A side portion of broccoli and mushrooms was big enough to share for 4 people! The dessert menu is tempting and while tasty is nothing out of the ordinary. My friend and I enjoyed the brownie a la mode.

Ate outdoors since it was crowded inside and the temperature was mild (mid-70s). Mind you this was early-September, I wouldn't dare eat outside in say, mid-January. Anyway, the garlic mahed potatoes - so good as is the risotto that comes with the Salmon dish. Washed it down with a pale ale and topped it with a lemon italian ice (which wasn't that good). All in all, a good meal and a nice atmosphere.

I stopped in for lunch yesterday with my mama and wasn't all too impressed. I ordered the Salmon Burger with a side of a pasta salad... When we first walked in, nobody batted an eye. There were two employees by the door...one who seemed like a hostess but we had to be like, "hey, hi, what do we do?" to get her attention. When we did get seated it was super breezy as we were under a fan but the waiter was less than helpful in relocating us. This waiter! UGH! He kept pushing all these sides on us...sides are sooooo great, blah blah blah. They're SO big. Blah Blah Blah. So with my salmon burger I ordered a side of twice baked potato. When my mom and her bf got their entree...I got the baked potato. I figured the burger was on its way. 10 minutes later, it wasn't. I asked the waiter about it and he placed ALL the blame on me. He said I had ordered the baked potato, when I said I hadn't and that it was my side, he said that it doesn't count as a side -- that I could only have the pasta salad and the fries. I said that would've been a good thing to explain to me and he copped a major attitude and said he had. Whatever. So I REorder the burger with a side of a PASTA salad. He returns with the burger and a side of fries. I'm thinking now that I'm not the one to be blamed for the baked potato. I was just utterly appalled by this guys arrogance. He was so effin quick to place the blame on the customer and then he screwed up again. Yuck. The burger was good, baked potato wasn't flavorful enough and the pasta salad was kind of icky too. But the burger was good! ...oh and those sides, that he pushed so freakin' hard and claimed were family sized? 5 pieces of asparagus is definitely not a family portion guy.

I was there last night, and didn't think the place had much to offer. If you are a sports memorabilia fanatic, you may enjoy looking at all the items they have. Since I only care about food and service (in that order), I focused on those. My food was boring. We shared a chicken chopped salad, which was just right and humongous for just one person, so we shared it and still it was a bit much ( but hey, something needs to justify the $14 bucks price). My meal was linguine with clams, and it smelled and tasted like old clams. The pasta sauce was something oily and highly unidentifiable, so the pasta tasted like plainly boiled pasta covered in oil. I left half of it there. My friend had the veal Parmesan all covered in red sauce, not meat sauce how one might expect....he just said, he was full, with half of his meal still laying there. Next time I just want to fill my stomach and not care about the taste, I'll go to McDonald, it's cheaper. The only thing good at this restaurant is the service. We had a really nice guy that was very pleasant and helpful. Waiter's niceness aside, paying those prices just to look at sport items and have a nice waiter, it's moronic, so I am not going back.

This review is long overdue. If you are going to spend this much money, you might as well go to Primehouse, Gibson's, or Joe's as the food is much better at those places. I found the service rushed and lacking in professionalism. The furniture, tile, and wood needs to be refurbished or replaced.

I was pleasantly surprised with my experience at Harry Caray's (almost made me a Cubs fan...almost). After attempting to obtain a seat at House of Blues and to be told it had been rented out for a private party, I was looking for somewhere to take my visiting sister on her 16th birthday. Harry Caray's was close by and the menu looked decent, but I was nervous it was glorified bar food. Boy was I wrong. The staff was great and when I mentioned to the hostess it was my sister's birthday she smiled and nodded. The dining room was very clean and not kitchy. Our food was cooked quite well and at the end of our meal they brought out a piece of cake on the house. I'm looking forward to going back.

Our family went to Harry Caray's for a special dinner during the holiday season. Our food and service were fantastic. For starters, we had the fried calamari, which was perfectly fried and had a great texture. The mozzarella marinara was made with fresh mozzarella and very tasty. Our group ordered a nice variety of entrees: pork, filet, prime rib, pasta, and the special salmon. Everyone was very pleased. The salmon was particularly tasty, with wilted spinach and white asparagus. The table enjoyed the flourless chocolate cake and the snickers pie...delicious! We really enjoyed walking around and seeing the memorabilia and, of course, taking our picture with the bust of Harry Caray. It is a bit pricey for a family dinner, but a great experience!

My bf had been dying to try this place since moving to Chicago. We tried it for Valentine's Day (probably a mistake) and were both disappointed. Our server was pretty terrible and took about 15 minutes just to bring us drinks. He assured us that sides were "huge" and "definitely enough for 2" however, when our asparagus side arrived it was six stalks of skinny aspragus drowning in butter. Our steaks were pretty tasty but that's about the only positive thing I can say. For steak, I'd go elsewhere.

Had the brushetta to start off with and loved it, then had the USDA Prime Hanger Steak which came with gorgonzola mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus with red wine demi-glace, which was super yummy! The steak was perfectly cooked. Great ambiance full of sports memorabilia and great service. I felt the portions were great for the price I paid and for checking in we also got 10% off. Overall, I would recommend this place.

My boyfriend LOVES this place. He's a Cubs fan, so what do you expect? Most baseball fanatics will have a hard time not liking this place. The memorabilia is pretty cool. Me? I'm a food fan. And once I learned how to make the labor-intensive, signature Chicken Vesuvio (google it- the recipe is out there), this place lost its luster. So I decided to branch out and try something else there... the pork chops vesuvio are great but not much of a stretch. On the most recent visit, the lasagna proved to be terribly mundane. It was so dissapointing- all mushy and blah. Not enough sauce, meat and cheese mediocre... Especially after I tried the complimentary ziti they brought to the table- which actually had flavor! And have you ever noticed the bread basket sucks? How can there be a bread I don't love!? Yeah.... I don't know anymore. Sorry Harry, it's one, two strikes thus far...

New to Chicago, I was told this was a must-try restaurant. Now that I have, I'm not sure why. My salad was something I could make at home in about 4 minutes, my boyfriend's burger was greasy as hell and my parents' entrees were decent. Overall, this restaurant served average food at fairly expensive prices.

My thoughts on Harry Caray's: - Fun atmosphere with cool pics - Steaks are ok - Prices are reasonable for the meal - Friendly wait staff I was there for business and had to check it out myself. I don't think the menu was any different than your typical upscale steakhouse. Overall, the meal was enjoyable but nothing memorable.

So my sick mom comes to Chicago - for the first time in her life in a city bigger than Cleveland. She stayed on Hubbard St. I thought I'd take her somewhere touristy, close, and open this late rainy October evening... hrm perhaps the House of Blues? I had never been there before, so I figured hey, why not. Turns out there is a concert there, and with my mom having a hard time walking and the place being so noisy, we walked back to the hotel. And that is when our night took a turn for the better. We passed Harry Caray's and I though to myself "Self, bar food will do for now. Get mom fed and return her to the hotel before she gets tired." We had to wait about 10 minutes for a table, so we sat at the bar, ordered some drinks, and chit chatted. Very average thus far. Turns out, this is NOT your average sports bar. The dining room had a significant lack of windows, but nevertheless. The food was amazing, they let us split meals all over the table and refilled our drinks before we hit the bottom. We ordered salad, pasta, and steak. It was all very good and the service was excellent. Good portions, right temperature, and great flavorings. I think we were sitting next to somebody famous or rich, because all of the servers stopped by to shake her hand and welcome her but I did not recognize her. When my mom left Chicago after a weekend of walking all over downtown and Old Town/Lincoln Park, the thing she remembered most was how welcomed she felt and how good the food was at the "baseball sports bar" downtown.

I'm definitely a fan of this place so far. I met up with a friend for a quick lunch and I was not disappointed with the food. I ordered a grass-fed burger with cheddar on a kaiser roll. Pretty darn good if I must say so myself. Decent burger. The fires were really good too, nicely seasoned. The ambiance was a little too old school for me (i.e. white tablecloths, overdressed servers, decked out in wood) but I enjoyed it nonetheless. The service started off strong but started to wane after our food was delivered. Thankfully I didn't need much attention. I've heard good things about their ribeye steak so I may be back to give it a try.

They had our reservations no problem. However, the 3 men behind the host stand seemed like "tough guys" and not real inviting. food was average at best and the Pinot noir I ordered, below average. the prices were what I expected at a place like this. The shinning star was our server, Carlos!

I heard that Harry Caray's was overpriced and under-yummy. I heard that only tourists go to Harry Caray's and the service is so-so. I heard it was crowded and hard to get a table. My experience was completely different. I have been to steakhouses that have the same or higher prices for the same cuts of meat that were less yummy [think Smith & Wollensky's in Vegas]. I am sure tourists walked amongst we veteran Chicagoans, but who cares? 17 of use got a table 20 minutes before we called and the service was outstanding! The servers made sure we had more than enough adult beverages, bread, and meat. Our main server was knowledgeable about the cuts of meat as well. He brought out a tray with all of the different cuts (not a good marketing or explanatory device since the meat looked kinda nasty) and explained each one. He made a great suggestion for me, a woman looking for something that would be great rare to medium rare, a lot of taste, but not a lot of fat. I had the NY Strip. Wow. Flavor, flavor, flavor. The temp was good. WARNING: the chefs here take medium rare and rare to heart. Expect heavy [yummy] juice and a lot of red! For the extra foods, we had an appetizer plate that was good and plentiful. It was a mixed platter good for 5+ people. We also shared family style plates of cooked spinach that was tasty an a little salty. I do have a few major suggestions: - If you are wearing heels, be very, very careful: the floor is tile. - Ask for a sommelier, or review the wine list before you go. I love a Willamette Valley pinot noir (regardless of the temp in Oregon, WV has some excellent pinots.) - Don't go to the bar unless you want a meat market-ish atmosphere. It looked a little more mature, but still meat market-y. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised! I would love to go back and try each cut of meat...as long as someone else is paying! 9 stars for servers putting up with our drunken Spanish + 5 stars for well prepared meat + 5 stars for finding 17 people a table in 20 min. - 4 stars for a suggestion of $100 bottle of wine that was screw-top crap - 3 stars for being a fancy restaurant which means women w/heels and having tile floors - 1 star for the price but that would go for any steak house in Chicago for the most part = 4 stars.

My experiences at HC's all center around the bar... Not sure what that says, but so be it. First, the bar... It is a very comfortable spot to hang out, have a beer, and watch sports. The beer selection is decent, and the wine by the glass selection is alright, too. They serve their homemade chips - very tasty - as a snack at the bar. I have only eaten at HC's one time. I was on my way to the opera - of all places. Frankly, the scene was something out of a bad movie or a sitcom. I went in to the bar, sat down, ordered a beer, and asked for the menu. Within minutes there were literally three of the neighboring bar stools occupied by other "solo" male diners who were doing exactly the same thing. But I digress... I ordered a starter salad (I can't remember the name); it was fantastic. A good dressing, packed with lots of tasty vegetables, and a nice sized portion. Then, for dinner, I ordered the chicken Vesuvio. You can order it bone-in or boneless, though apparently bone-in is the "traditional" method of preparation. I ordered the boneless version, and it came out very hot. It was very good. It isn't too heavy, and it is very tasty - with peas, roasted potatoes, and garlic. HC's isn't cheap. I probably won't be heading back anytime soon, not because the food is bad but because it suffers from River North disease - lousy bang for the buck.

My co-workers and I ate here one night after a long-ass night of work. I'm surprised how fast we were served considering how many of us there were - we took up a long-ass table on one whole side of the room! We got bottles of wine and drinks right away; appetizers relatively quickly after that. I'm not going to talk about anything like atmosphere or ambience because I was pretty piss drunk by the time our steaks arrived, but I had a 23 ounce ribeye covered with blue cheese, accompanied by broccoli, mashed potatoes and some other stuff I can't remember. It was great going down... and certainly interesting on its way back up later that night. I don't remember exactly what we had, but I think we had dessert that night, too. It was probably also really good, just like everything else we ate. All told, I don't know that it was the best steak I ever had, but it was expensive, melted in my mouth, and was free, so... okay, yeah, it was the best steak I ever had.

Pretty good steak, but compared to a few other places I've been, not as good. The plates of chips in the bar kind of creep me out... there were some sitting around on ledges that a busboy tried to give us, but what he didn't know was that we had moved them there b/c they were on our table when we arrived. That kind of grossed me out. Lots to look at in terms of memorabilia. Went for a work dinner, which was a good spot for such a dinner, but probably wouldn't go back on my own.

I'm amazed of how no one wonders what does an ex baseball commentator have to do with italian food? The answer is very simple, nothing. I keep having the misfortune of being dragged in this pathetic restaurant over and over by co-workers and in all my visits my opinion stays the same. The most mediocre food you can imagine, prepared in a mediocre way with a mediocre service at a very high price. One of the worst values I've ever experienced. The burgers are big, not good. The sandwiches come with a bread that is stale and super chewy or super hard that makes your jaw sore after 3 bites or wounds your gums. Everything else is the classic fake italian cuisine that is loaded with garlic because otherwise the food would have no taste at all.

Absolutely wonderful service and even better food. The atmosphere is undeniably...Chicago. It's very family orientated and thus a wonderful place for a birthday dinner. We had a party of five and everything we ordered was fantastic but the filet with truffle butter and the bruleed corn was exceptional. Our waiter was extremely polite, knowledgeable, and made a great wine recommendation. I cannot wait to go back!

The only thing I tried here was the homemade chips and boy, were they yummy. Nicely cooked and a huge stack. I was able to put hot sauce and powder on it which made it extra good. It was made fresh and with real potatoes. The chips on top were crispy. The only problem is that when you get towards the bottom, the chips get soggier and they are not very appetizing afterwards. I only ate about 2/3's of it. I keep dreaming of the day I will go back and get some homemade chips.

Meh. Came here for a group lunch event so had a set selection of fare. Spinach salad with a light vinaigrette, crab cakes served with mash potatoes and green beans, and petite cheesecakes/carrot cakes/pecan pie for dessert. Being a namesake of a restaurant, I expected better quality. Maybe it's steaks or regular menu items are far better. Crab cakes were overcooked so didn't taste very fresh but potatoes were good. Wish I didn't even give the dry, uneventful desserts any attention. Ambiance is nice with of course, all of the cubs memorabilia. When we were there, Ernie Banks did stop in. So, you too, could have your chance meeting with a Cubbie if that excites you. But otherwise, I would put this far down on your list of River North or downtown Chicago places to try.

As good as it gets ... excellent spot to get a taste of Chicago. Our server was super professional and answered all of our questions very kindly & with a little humor. Our food was pretty darn good. I had steak, shrimp, and several of their sides, which I shared with my dinner friends. They had a great selection of beers to choose from as well. The vibe was great. If you get a chance to eat here...do yourself a favor and do it.

Spaghetti and meatballs were bland, although the meatballs were literally (using that overused word literally) the size of baseballs. I'd err on the side of overrated and overpriced, although the service was good (but not great). I ate in the bar area, which was cozy and loud enough to let you know you're in a bar instead of a restaurant. BTW, the restaurant area looked more upscale with traditional-looking Italian waiters (white shirts and long white aprons) and white table cloths.

We came here before the Gospel Brunch on a Sunday. It was empty so we had our choice of seats. We decided to have a seat at the bar. the bartender was a friendly woman who brought us over chips as soon as we sat down, these were amazing, and best part is they were FREE. I ordered a whiskey rootbeer, I was a little sad these drinks were almost $7, but when I got it I quickly changed my mind, it was mostly whiskey with a splash on rootbeer. I will take it!! My aunt ordered a beer, while the bartender was pouring it the kep ran out with maybe half an inch from the top. The bartender told my aunt she would give her this one and when the kep was changed give her a full one. My Aunt said it was fine that she would just take the beer that was poured but the bartender insisted on giving her another one because this one wasn't full......free beer, THANKS!! Our friend got the bloody mary, now I'm not big on those but she said it was really good. We can't wait to be back for the amazing customer service and strong drinks! Also if you check in on yelp you get a 10% off coupon for food!!

I have only been for work lunches and it's a nice place for that, although not very fast for a working lunch. I typically get a salad so I am probably not the best reviewer as I haven't had a steak, although I hear they are delish! They do have a great salad selection though I will say. Their potato chips are super yummmmy and I always eat too many. The Chicago history there is really cool. You can check out the Bartman ball, Harry Caray's glasses, and all kinds of neat things. Definitely a good spot to hit if you are in from out of town!

I've always wanted to go here, and so did my mom, who was in town. So, at her request, we went. The best thing I can say is that the place is fun to be at--lots of sports stuff to look at--and the service is nice. I can also say that my mom and my brother liked their steak and prime rib, respectively. But me and my wife didn't like it at all. This is the kind of place where you buy cuts of steaks and when you do, you get just the steak, all for $25-$50. Potatoes, salad, etc., are extra. I realize this is the steakhouse way, but for a touristy spot, they sure don't cater to tourists very well with their menu. Back to the food: I got the pork chop special, partially because it came with mashed potatoes and green beans, and overall, the pork chops were dry. If you pay $28 for pork chops, they should be pretty good and juicy, right? Not here. Maybe I should have gotten steak, but the waiter really pushed this special--probably because they had to get rid of it. My wife had scallops. Good scallops, but she only got 4 for the $30. Again, maybe not what Harry Caray's specializes in, but they supposedly have these great chefs, get the best supplies, etc., so we just wanted more out of a dinner that cost the two of us over $135. I'm not sorry I went, as I got a picture next to the Harry bust by the host's table, and really, I always wanted to see what it was like. But no, not again.

I ate in the bar area because I wanted to watch the Yankees game and have a drink. It was pretty cool--TV's everywhere, sports memorabilia covering the walls, friendly service. The chips to start were yummy--we actually had our waitress take them away so that we wouldn't eat anymore! My friend recommended the Veal Parmigiani but I was in the mood for something lighter so I went with the Chicken Chopped Salad which was really good. It's definitely a fun place to watch a game, I would say that this is a place worth checking out in Chicago. Next time I'm in Chicago, I would go back to have dinner in the actual dining room.

So Harry Caray's is obviously a big tourist spot, and has the prices that go along with it. The food is actually remarkably good - based on being the aforementioned tourist spot, I didn't have high expectations but I was really quite pleasantly surprised. The service was also pretty good, but overall I'm still reeling from the sticker shock.

Hullo again, everybahdy. Aaaay. Hey, Laura and Gloria from Gr...Gr...Grand Rapid (sic) are here today. Aaay, Michigan spelled backwards is nag-ick-uhm. Jo-dee, Jody Davis, fastest gun in the west. Eh, heh, huh. Ah, ya can't beat fun at the ol' ball park. I've been to Harry's at least a couple times, if not more, over the years, with the most recent visits being for dinner with a large group of cousins and then drinks on another occasion with another cousin. I think it's likely that if you're a local and you find yourself at Harry's that you have someone visiting from out of town. Boy, oh boy. Paahhped it up. Paul Ass...Ass-enmacher warming up in the bull pen for the Cub (sic). The one time I dined at Harry's with the big group of cousins I ended up just ordering the rigatoni because I was late and everyone had already ordered and I'd need something fast to catch up. I wasn't all that thrilled with the dish. I've had many vodka sauces that trumped Harry's. Sorry, Harry. Maybe I'll have to order a meat dish next time I dine at Harry's when cousins come into town. There's a foul right back at us. Aay, I got it, I got it. Aay, come out from under the table Steve, Ahl protect ya. Aay, Ahm a cfff...I'm a...I'm a Cub fan and a Bud man, and I hope you are too. The next visit to Harry's, which was just recently, was for drinks on an impromptu mini pub crawl with another Michigan cousin. We were able to grab a table. Out came a big bowl of house made chips. Cubs win! And so do you. Lovely! I wasn't even hungry, and I was manging continuously on these chips as I sipped a Blue Moon. I love the potatoes - all variations. Harry's has plenty of bottled beers and beers on tap for you beer geeks. And Harry's has plenty of televisions at every angle for your sports viewing pleasure. Sure, the place is filled with out-of-towners and locals will scoff, but it's not all that bad if you squelch your city 'tude. I'll have to return to the restaurant to give it another chance the next time a cousin comes in from Michigan. Maybe I'll have to order the Chicken Vesuvio people talk about next time. I certainly won't mind hitting the bar again for beer and free chips. The bar might be, it could be, it is...a home run. Holy cow. Harry's is 3 1/2 stars. For Harry, I'll round up. So long, everybahdy.

Restaurants and sports bars don't get more "Chicago" than this. Harry Caray's is a great place to hang out for the Superbowl and not far from the Art Institute if you're that odd hybrid known as art and sports fan. Music here also tends to be pretty good. The caricature of Harry on the building's exterior is a little odd; it makes him look like Drew Carey, but that's a minor quibble. Five stars from me.

Great bar, above average food. Almost docked them a star for embracing the White Sox like they are, but Harry DID broadcast for the team for a few years, so I"ll cut them some slack. Great housemade potato chips are free at the bar, Good sandwiches at lunch. The menu is Italian-ish, good not great chicken vesuvio but the calamari rocks, and salads and pastas are surprisingly good. Makes me miss the big galumph. They have his actual last pair of big glasses on display, kinda eerie seeing as though they have a big scuff from when he collapsed in an Arizona restaurant, hitting his face on a table, and later dying. Very strange macabre thing to display. Can't wait for the HC group to reopen one of my fave spots, Trader Vic's, in 2007. Holy Cow!

The name of this place attracts tourists from all over. It's obviously famous and also a great place to stop in for some food and drinks. It's usually pretty packed, especially during the summer and on game days! The inside is a pretty normal sports bar which is nice if you want a relaxed atmosphere. I had a burger when I was here which was actually really good and of course went along great with the beers they have on tap!

The new Happy Hour menu is top notch. $5 for a mini meatball sub and fries and some other great deals. Whoever came up with this idea is brilliant. $8 martinis as well from 4-6 for Happy Hour along with $3 Bud Lights and Buds - Harry's favorite. Bartenders and waiters/waitresses are awesome. A place that you can become a regular. Frankie, Sally, Lee, Greta, Katie, Mary and Lisa are right there to serve you a drink. Mad Mags, Elvira and the rest are top notch in serving.

I'm not sure what I was expecting when I came here. My Aunt was in town and she picked the place. The service was great, the waitstaff was very attentive to all our needs, drinks, apps, or general desire to talk rather than to eat. But the food just wasn't what I would expect for a touristy restaurant trying to be taken seriously as great steak and seafood joint. We had the calamari to start and it was great. Crunchy on the outside soft and delicious on the inside. Matter that we ordered our meals. I ordered the seafood Cobb. I know I should know better than to order salad at a steak place but it really did sound great. However the shrimp was far from fresh and the lump crab meat was dry. I did enjoy their poppy seed dressing though. The pastas and even the steaks at the table looked fine. Nothing spectacular. If you go for the novelty you should end up very happy.

They have the best Staff !! Also I would highly recommend the rib eye, Mash potatoes, mushrooms, and great bottle of wine by Alexander I s a Napa Valley. If you are not to full, they have some great chocolate cake!!

Went through Harry Caray's to cater my company event, so this is more for their catering and events department rather than the restaurant. I selected the panini buffet, and chose goat cheese and veggie, roast beef, and chicken and avocado paninis. Added on crab dip and guac, which everybody raved about. So the food from Harry Caray's is pretty damn good. It's the communication and attention to detail that Harry Caray's staff lacks that bothers me. I received different desserts than what was written on the banquet event order. The desserts given were delicious, I just was expecting something else, as outlined on the contract. Also, the catering department kept on having problems with their internet, so I had to follow up repeatedly to get updated BEOs and for confirmation. What a waste of my time, especially since I'm the customer. Shouldn't they be following up with me? Won't be utilizing their services again.

Love me some Harry Caray's! While its not the best steak house I've been to in Chicago, its certainly a special spot for me and my family. The history in this building is phenomenal, as we just learned it reaches well past sports and the legends who have dined here before us. If you're waiting for a table, swing by the little shop in the bar, just past it is a stairwell that leads down to Frank Nitti's old safe and entrance to the old secret underground tunnels of Chicago. His old apartment is apparently still in tact upstairs, but I'm sure that's closed from the public. Frank Nitti was the right-hand man of Al Capone back in the day. Thanks to our server for pointing that out! Anyway, the food here is really good, not the best but really good. The service in the dining area is fantastic. We've always had Lupe or Jenny, both are really nice, very helpful and accommodating servers. I always have a great experience here, can't wait to come back next time the family is in town!

In my experience, when a sports star lends his name to a restaurant, bar, etc., the quality of the food and atmosphere is mediocre at best. Harry Caray's quelled at perception really fast. There's a very nice sports bar as a waiting area that has any TV's for watching sports. The overhead music was at a very respectable volume, and the music selection was A-1 (not the current club stuff some other places prefer). Appetizers, seafood, steak, sides, and desserts all off the charts! Great atmosphere as well. I'm visiting from New Orleans and will definitely bookmark this place if/when I ever come back to Chicago. 1 criticism - I'm a little "plus sized." They need to sell larger sizes of heir memorabilia t-shirts.

Fun to buy Harry Carey glasses, enjoy happy hour and eat some great calamari. This was a cool oasis of AC and a convenient location to enjoy the Chicago River . Big salads and superb service. Drinks a little overpriced and disappointing.

Made it here right before they closed on a Saturday night for dinner. Our server, Carlos, was amazing! He was professional, knowledgeable, funny and charming. The wedge salad was the best I've ever had. Great wine list with fair pricing. Enjoyed pasta too. Everyone's dish was beyond expectation. Additionally we were served our salads and entrees by Alberto, another stellar employee. We had fun; great ambiance, great food, great service. I look forward to returning.

Cool place... Seems like a cool history. Be sure to check out Frank Nitti's vault (downstairs off the bar). We came with a small group... Food was good, the 2 stars is mostly because of the bad service... Joe was ok, but lacked the etiquette of a good server at a "fine dining" establishment. Felt like he was annoyed by our presence and we felt rushed from the very start...Really rushed. Not sure how you feel, but I hate it when a server picks up the final check, desserts, water glasses before you leave the table. They even started prepping the table placing new plates BEFORE we got up... It totally blew the experience... I totally felt like we were unwelcome and under-appreciated. Just so you know we ordered drinks & 2 bottles of wine & desserts (we aren't table squaters) & spent about $600 for only about 1.75 hours ( not long) and it was a polite group, but service did not match. Too bad!! Maybe just go for lunch or a drink... Just don't go expecting good service... It's a good thing the group was fun!

We almost worn this place out! Visiting Chicago for a baseball tour, HC's was our top stop. A tasty Italian dinner one night, crab cakes & a draft beer on another night and and the third visit for peach cobbler & Irish Coffee! Great service. Great food. Great times!

Amazing experience, rich with history and great vibes. The display of the meat selection was to die for, due ask your server to allow you to pick you cut of steak and show you the rack, an experience worth the time for any meat lover and anyone who can appreciate the finer parts of eating choice cuts of steak. Great atmosphere, fun seating and always crowded. Great for friends and family occasions.

The food is not bad but very overpriced. The nachos look like everything was from a can and tasted like it as well. This restaurant was great a few years ago but it seems like they've become very lackadaisical in their food and service. For Chicago you expect better and this place does not provide the excellence you expect from food in this area.

We enjoyed our dinner here this evening. The entrees were very well seasoned and prepared, and the mac n cheese was delicious as well. Our waiter was Italian, so that certainly added to the experience. The chicken vesuvio was extremely flavorful and the portion size massive. My wife had the filet and enjoyed that as well.

I can't believe I live next door and I haven't ever been. Such a friendly place!!! It's 'divey' to as it's located next to posh restaurants and bars in River North so it was nice to come in for a generous poured drink of Sauvignon Blanc from California and Italian Meatballs. The two big sizes of meatballs that seemed to have been slow cooked overnight were so delicious and a perfect cost for an appetizer. I was impressed. It was topped with tons of pasta sauce and our friendly and smiley waitress asked if we wanted bread too. If you are looking for a more 'divey' type of environment with tons of sports TV then this is the place to hang. The crowd is mostly upper 40's and early 50's but it's still a cool place.

I haven't been here in quite some time but I must give props to a great restaurant. Note: do not think that because it's Harry Carey's and he was the announcer for sports games that this is a casual atmosphere because it's not. White tablecloths and cloth napkins decorate the tables here. I have been here a couple of times and enjoyed myself immensely each time. The fried calamari is really, really good. They are known for their steaks. I had this when I went but I'm not sure if they still serve it for dessert: Lemon Cheesecake. It was so Divine, I enjoyed every morsel. Treat yourself and go here, you won't be disappointed!

Let's start with the building. It's the old gangsters Frank Nitti's house. We were amazed by the underground tunnel display and the framed newspaper clippings on the tiny bottom floor. If you can, check out the upstairs. Great service, staff exceptionally knowledgeable. Food was fresh, flavorful and very impressive all around. Chicken Vesuvio-I'm in love. Delicious. Recommend the toasted ravioli as an appetizer. This place has it all, great food, great cocktails and a style that is Chicago.

This is what fine dining should be - great food, great drinks and superb service. One of the best steaks I've ever had. Only Smith and Wollensky in NYC, which dry ages it's own steaks, on site, is in the same league. Great selection of apps, wines and whiskeys. The surf and turf are equally well prepared. Dessert will put you over the top

  • Robert B.

The Yelp! reviews are either really good or really bad... very few mixed reviews. Well here is a mixed review! The restaurant is surrounded by other steak houses... including Smith & Wollenskys and Ruth's Chris. We were told by several locals that Caray's was the place to go and get a great steak without spending a bundle of cash... like you would at the big name places. Well we did indeed have great steaks... but we also dropped a bundle of cash in doing so. Turns out the price of and aged, bone in, rib eye is about the same all around. That said I'm not begrudging the prices. Expensive yes... but they deliver on quality. Impeccable and friendly service. If I have any complaint it was a little too fast... we were a bit rushed between apps and entrees. In the end everything was right - a perfect martini served fast, antipasto, dry aged rib eye, spinach/mushrooms/garlic mash sides. There was no wow factor however... when I break $125. per person... I want a little wow factor!

There is a reason why if you live in the city you don't go to Harry Caray's. We thought we'd give it a shot to watch some of the NCAA tourney and have better bar food. Big mistake... We sat in the bar. Service was horrible. The bar was dead and they couldn't accommodate a simple request with the TVs. We closed-up and left and went across the street to Sienna to watch the 2nd games. Sienna is no sports bar but they were accommodating and happy to have us there, unlike Harry's where they acted like they were doing US a favor by letting us be there. I guess every once in awhile you need a little reminder why you don't go here. If you're from out of town, have low expectations, or want to see some memorabilia...then maybe. But if you're looking for decent service or a good atmosphere, look elsewhere. There are much better choices in the city.

I used to work here as a hostess back in the day. I've only visited a few times since. There's still a handful of servers that I recognized and it's been over 5 years! I normally get the Rigatoni A La Vodka because it is so delicious! I remember thinking the Chicken Vesuvio was pretty good as well. Last night, I tried a Chicken Chopped Salad. It was pretty good but it would have been better without the bacon (I forgot to request no bacon). This place was packed on a Saturday night. I love looking at all of the autographed pictures on the walls. Would highly recommend this joint!

Nice atmosphere split Seafood salad with lemon poppseed dressing with my girl Dana very hearty portion and a lot of seafood, love sterling ,crabmeat, huge shrimp with thick crispy bacon and boiled egg. Oh and they have the best homemade chips they bring to the table eat them sparingly you may use your appetite.

We came here on a Saturday night and left a little disappointed! I read the reviews on this location before coming and kept thinking everyone was being a little harsh! I've dined at the Rosemont location before and have always been happy so I made the reso anyways. We get here on a mild January Saturday night.... And the place is empty! On the restaurant side at least... What? That was a little surprising! So we ordered a bottle of wine and an appetizer... Shortly after our wine got to the table and before we could even take a sip our calamari arrives! Talk about speedy! I hate feeling rushed, and already I could tell that this is how the rest of our dinner was gonna be. There should always be a smooth progression between drinks apps and dinner. Not even a full hour later and we were out of there! Wine drank apps and dinner ate and billed paid. The food: calamari was over cooked the breading was a deep brown instead of a nice tan that it should be... Tasted like it too! However our pasta dishes were really good! Generous servings! I had the jumbo shrimp and scallops fettuccini in sundried tomatoes and it was excellent! The boyfriend also enjoyed his! If I didn't feel so rushed and got to actually enjoy my time there this review may have gone different, but that is a game changer for me! Slow it down let your customers enjoy your service, your food, and more importantly the company they are with!

We went this past Saturday night with a large dinner group that included out of town guests. We thought we would try something unique to Chicago that had great ratings for steak lovers with some vegetarian options. While the atmosphere was fine (clean, friendly, cozy but not as tight as some downtown venues) and service was really pretty good, we felt the food was not that great at all. My husband ordered the filet special that came with wedge salad (tasty), asparagus (bland and over cooked) and potato wedges (pleasant). He also tried the garlic mashed potatoes (decent but not fantastic). I tried the eggplant Parmesan (good portion but so very bland and extremely bitter). For dessert we tried the key lime pie (oddly salty) and the flourless chocolate cake (pasty without much flavor). The rest of the party (7) also had steaks (ok) and the chicken vesuvio (good) and also didn't enjoy dessert. The beer and wine selection was fair and one of the house drinks, blueberry lemonade, was rated as strong but good. Overall, we have had better meals by far elsewhere, and we just expected more flavor and wow factor. Our waiter Tweed had character and was quite good, knew the menu well, but we still had a few order pieces that needed fixing, which he oversaw promptly. He and the bar's homemade potato chips may have been the only standouts of our visit. For the price and reputation we truly expected tastier menu items. We probably won't go back. Plenty of other steakhouse restaurants in the area at same $ range to try and have better luck at. We do not recommend this for a true noteworthy Chicago steakhouse experience. We weren't wowed and don't feel our out of towners were that impressed either. Side note: lots of nearby metered street parking is the $4/hr option followed by restaurant valet $$12+, but we do not recommend the nearby parking garages, which was $$$28+ (don't show rates until you get in and can't turn around! Shady practice!) and even worse was a pretty far walk (+street stairs outside) from pedestrian entrance in garage to restaurant (boo we didn't know better, mistake!).

Best Steakhouse in Chicago?!? - What a Joke! Don't want to waste too much time on this review as Harry Carey's already destroyed an entire evening. Short version - will not be returning, and hope you'll try somewhere else. Booked for Christmas Eve at 7:00 p.m. and from the time we were seated, we were practically rushed out the door. Throughout the meal we wondered - why would Harry Caray's take a booking at this early time on Christmas Eve, if they genuinely didn't want folks in the restaurant. Seems the kitchen staff wanted to go home early. We learned this from our server. And they wanted out so much so, that they couldn't even bother sticking around until the diners had finished dining. After ordering desserts, and waiting for them for several minutes, we were informed that - no desserts would be available because the kitchen staff had already gone home and the refrigerators containing the desserts were locked. This made us wonder what the heck was so precious about the Key Lime Pie that it had to be kept under lock and key. Same goes for the Apple Tart. Pretty much everything was off limits. And how's this - even management did not have the key to open the pie vault. Either that, or they wanted to get the hell out of there too. But the dessert debacle was not the worst part of the meal. The meat was poor. Both the Prime Rib, and the Bone In Ribeye were tough and dry and both had to be sent back to the kitchen. Not Recommended!

Came here during the afternoon to sit in the bar area and watch the college football games with my husband and other family members. I had a wrap and my husband had a burger. Both were delicious! Lots of tv's so you don't have to worry about not being able to watch your particular game. I wonder how dining in the restaurant during the evening hours would be.

I was a tad worried about this place when another person in my group wanted to eat here(was a family and relatives meal a few weeks back), but it turned out to be fine in the end. The food I ordered was good(corned beef sandwich), but I wish the beer selection was at least as good as Lady Gregory's. Ah well, you can't always win in the world. They surprisingly even had a few White Sox related things in their sports memorabilia area, but I wish it was more. At least they had some Blackhawks and Bears related items in their collection at this one, though.

The service was second to NONE! Great experience. Was here with a group including my 3 year old son (who was starving lol) they took care of us right away. The food was great as well as the ambiance. Highly recommend Harry Carey's-the staff is awesome.

Had dinner here while in Chicago on business. Nice eclectic atmosphere. The waiter brought a tray of real steaks (plastic wrapped) and spoke about each one. Nice touch. I ended up ordering a Caesar salad, the pork chop and mashed potatoes. I was surprised that everything was a la carte but then sides were large family-style sharing. The pork chop ranks up with some of the best I've had. It was at LEAST 2.5 inches thick. Cooked well and seasoned just right. Overall it was a good experience although the prices were high. But so is everything else in downtown Chicago. I would recommend giving Harry Caray's a try.

Love Harry's. Quick recommendation, sit in the bar area. The dining area is wonderful and you'll have a great meal either way. The bar is very social and loud, it really makes you feel like you're in Chicago. Also, you get their homemade chips and you won't regret that. Also, the bone-in Chicken Vesuvio is the best in Chicago.

While in Chicago for vacation with the Husband, it was a must that we hit up Harry Caray's being huge Cubbies fans! :) It was literally across the street from our hotel so it was easy to get to. We just had a quick round of drinks and they brought out a big bowl of seasoned chips. They were yummy and a nice snack to munch on while having drinks. I had the house pinot noir, which was actually very nice. My hubby got his photo with Harry Caray, so he left happy :)

We were at the bar and Greta was helping us. She is amazing and a sweetheart but the other bartender felt it was appropriate to make condescending comments and remarks under her breath about my friend who requests a Hot Toddy which apparently is a complicated drink. After speaking to the manager about the bartender, she then came up to us and continued to be rude and confrontational. The manager sent the bartender home after a huge blowup in public. Absolutely humiliating and unprofessional. I am never going back. I can think of a million other places I would rather spend money at. Someone who purposely makes another feel horrible on purpose, is a waste of time in my book.

I called and the host answered and said there was an hour wait but could not take my name down over the phone until I was there.. I walked in and she said there was a hour wait, so I waited she took my number so that she could text me when it was ready which I thought was nice.. she texted about 20min later with our table ready... I ordered the ribeye and she had one too. They were cooked to perfection just a little too salty but it didn't stop me from eating it.. our server was great... I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking for a good piece of steak... 2 thumbs up

Antipasta appetizer dish was very good. Just cold cuts, cheese, olives, a pepper and a artichoke. 12 oz dry aged NY Strip was the bomb! It had a nice salt crust. Very simply, the best steak I've ever had, and I'm a 100% meat and potatoes guy. They bring out the cuts and pick the one you want. I had the Rib Eye and can't wait until the next time I am back in Chicago to have it again.

Usually end up on the bar here. The staff does a good job getting drinks. I like the toasted ravioli app. I'm a a sucker for those things. Atmosphere is nice. Dark wood etc. bar was hopping on a Sunday (surprisingly). Might not be my first choice in the area but not a bad stop.

Holy cows! Totally expected this to be cheesy, but it's actually a pretty spot on place for a steak dinner. White tablecloths, fat cuts, delicious sides, and an extensive wine list. An all around experience that you'd expect in a steak city like Chicago. Although a bit of a tourist trap you can pretty much always get a table here which is nice on a busy night like Valentine's day or a Saturday night. Most of all I gotta give the service props for a job well done. From the hostess to the servers I was pretty blown away. They even brought out a complimentary bottle of champagne for my friends when they found out they had just gotten engaged. A totally awesome ending to an unbelievably unexpected night!

It looks like a great steakhouse, it smells like a great steakhouse, it's priced like a great steakhouse...but it ain't a great steakhouse. In fact, the most memorable and fun thing about it was the men's room attendant, who welcomes you to "John's john," probably the cleanest men's restroom in America. John will tell you he's been there 27 yrs, and will even regale you with his excellent singing. The food is subpar for a place of this caliber and price point. I had a dry aged bone in rib eye that was overmarbled to the point of being almost indistinguishable as a cut of beef. If you find yourself here, just hope it's on someone else's expense account. But do say hello to John.

Cool place to go for dinner. We went there on Friday night (they were pretty busy.) The food was pretty good. I ordered the Filet Mignon with 18 year old Glenlivet. The service was so-so. The ambiance was typical of an Italian restaurant with lots of memorabilia on the walls. I would go back again but would try the middle of the week.

This is a fun restaurant to go to if you have out of town guests. Full of memorabilia and character, you'll have a lot of fun soaking in the ambience. The servers are friendly and chatty, with great accents and great stories. Food was pretty good for a touristy restaurant, not OMG stellar but pretty darn good. Beer selection was about average, same for wine. Great desserts. If you are new to the area or just passing through, it's a fun choice. They do reservations on Open Table, which I would highly recommend since every time I've tried to just do a walk in it's been a half hour wait. Give it a try...its a nice place.

I've always been skeptical about coming here in fear of it being just ok and not living up to having Harry Caray's name on it. I finally came for lunch with friends recently and yep it was just ok. We sat outside since the weather was ok and its lunchtime in the loop so its good for people watching. Our server took while to come over which I found surprising since hardly anyone was there. He brought us bread which was pretty good and the best part of my meal. I ordered the Tavern Burger which includes 10oz sirloin, onions, cheese lettuce, tomato, sautéed mushrooms and pickles on a brioche bun. Very flavorless as I had to dip it in ketchup. I only ate the whole thing because I knew I was gonna have to pay for it. My buddy got the same burger and couldn't eat more than half of it I got a salad instead of fries with the burger and it was not good. I had a 10% off coupon due to my Yelp check-in and the server took quite awhile coming back with the check. I'm hoping we didn't confuse him with the discount

Service was spotty. For an expensive steak place the bread was horrible. The heirloom chapter salad w arugula was very good. Get it! My friend and I had the chicken Vesuvio. Excellent. The Tira mi su. Is an easy split dessert. Classic Tira mi su. Too bad the restaurant is so crowded you can't see all the memorabilia.

Yay for the quality of food and awesome bar service! Meh for the prices! Expected them to be high but not balanced to the value. Buffalo fillet hard to find and close to $40...I totally understand...add crab legs for $20 and only get one small knuckle, leg and claw...no Gouda and never again! Crab cakes were buttery and mostly all crab...love it! Mac n Cheese addictive but too small to share.

I tried the Duroc porkchop, too dry, the lamb chops were okay, the potato were too water down and the gravy is not to my taste. Mac is no great. Pretty pricy for food that's not worth the price. I'm very disappointment. It's only getting 2 stars because Carlos was an awesome waiter.

The only reason I go here is my son loves anything Chicago Sports. Lots of memorabilia and they is where the fun stops. Poor service along with average food makes this local regret why I come here. It is a shame that this place is an out of towners place to come. There are several better places in the city to go.

The food here is great. Exactly what you expect from a steakhouse of this caliber. The atmosphere is more casual than most. I had the surf and turf, the crab legs were great. I might come back here. Its great for many, I like a bit more spice and flavor in my steakhouses. A went in a group of 12. The waiter was polite, but I keep finding that when they know the tip is factored in they don't work as hard for it. He mixed up a few of our dishes and seemed flustered, which is fine but it was like he was frustrated with us for being confused. Just a momentary thing, no big deal. Overall I had a great time, enjoyed some great food.

Had dinner here last Friday evening, they were very good about changing our reservation time at the last minute. Per usual, the place was packed and noisy, the wait staff was very professional and the overall atmosphere was enjoyable. The baseball / Harry Caray memorabilia is always fun to check out, as are the autographed celebrity photos. The chicken Vesuvio (boneless) seemed a little off and the potatoes that came with it were extremely bland. The filet was prepared perfectly and the garlic mashed potatoes were loaded with roasted garlic. The creme brulee was good and definitely meant to share. I'd typically give Harry Carey's 4 stars, but am going with only 3 based on the chicken Vesuvio. I'm sure I'll be back.

Harry Caray's gets 4 stars for service, the Arancini and the Lamb Oregonato. The risotto filled Arancini as an appetizer is a must. The outside fried perfectly and the inside a cheesy risotto with a splash on mushroom. Perfection. Second. Lamb oregonato is market price but cooked to perfection in the most delicious authentic Italian oregonato it's delicious. Finally the service. A woman who was another diner accidentally banged into our table and knocked my red wine in my lap. The staff was extremely attentive and refilled my wine even though it was clearly not their fault. That extra star though, all for the rice balls.

Can you use the word Irony when describing a visit to a restaurant. Well I guess I just did. Harry Caray's is a surprisingly good restaurant, not at all cheesy like one might expect. I've been a few times and each time I've had a brilliant experience. My most recent visit was at lunch in the bar. They have really great burgers and salads plus a full menu during the lunch hour. You can watch a game with full service from waitstaff at the side tables in the bar. They also have a complete Gluten Free Menu to boot. I highly recommend stopping here for a drink and lunch, or coming at dinner for the full experience.

Too expensive for what we got. Food was not the greatest. But the waiter was very nice and the ambiance was good.

Is this place a sports bar or a fine steakhouse? Its not a very good either. I don't know who at the Tribune voted this place the best steakhouse, it must have been one of the pressman or the janitor. It has the prices of a high end Chicago steak house but delivers a steak that is less quality than Outback. I had the grass fed NY Strip and was definitely underwhelmed. My wife had the chicken pasta. I have tasted better frozen dinners. As Harry might say, "it might be, it could be, it is" a completely overhyped restaurant that is big on schtick and short on quality. Save your money and go to a better Chicago steakhouse.

harry caray's has a restaurant side and a bar side. the boyfriend and i only experienced the bar side since we were meeting one of his former co-workers for a drink. despite having stayed for at least 2 hours and only ordering a few drinks, our waitress kept re-filling our complimentary homemade potato chip bowl and never made us feel like we needed to order food in order to receive professional service. at one point, we even hung around for an extra 30 minutes waiting for torrential rains to pass. if i lived in the area, i probably wouldn't mind coming here to watch sports just for the homemade potato chips!

Fun. We sat in the bar had a great meal and got out of the weather. Food was good - service was a bit slow - but it was very busy so I'll cut them some slack.

Lots of history at Harry Caray's... the running of the bulls in the bar is a must. I like the home made potato chip baskets they serve for free with your libations at the bar.

We loved this place! My boyfriend and I came for his birthday and they made it memorable! Our waiter, Steve, was able to answer all of our questions and even brought out a piece of key lime pie (best key lime pie I've ever had) for his birthday! My boyfriend is a big sports fan so he loved seeing all the great memorabilia. Food was great, except the garlic mashed potatoes were a little bland. Other than that though everything melted in our mouths! Would def. come back!

Hands down some of the best steak I've tasted. Our dinning experience there was wonderful! We had a very knowledgeable server who was so helpful! It was a very nice end to a very busy day full of shopping and going to a Cubs game! We did the pre-fixe menu and for $45 we had a divine meal! Totally will go again next time we are in CHI Town!! P.S. get the mashed potatoes best I've ever had :)

A review for the bar only: Met up with a few friends in the bar for drinks one Saturday late afternoon. We started at the bar and moved to a table when the party got bigger, which wasn't a problem since the bar area wasn't very busy. Our waitress was very attentive, and never let our glasses (bottles) empty before she had a chance to offer us another. Beer was the typical downtown price $4.50/bottle, $6/draft. This seemed ridiculously high considering the last few times I bought a beer were waaay up north, so apparently there is some advantage to living north of Gold Coast. Anyway, this review is about Harry Caray's bar and after reading all the other reviews, I'm kinda disappointed I didn't even think to check out the memorabilia - but hey, I'm an Indian's fan anyway... The only other things worth commenting on were the chips sitting on the table. They got me... they aren't even good and/or salty, but for some reason I couldn't keep my hand out of the bowl. Yeah I had a stomach ache after all that grease, but it's really my own fault. I recommend steering clear, cause it's really really hard to stop eating them!!

Great place. Not too touristy, lots of TVs, good food/ beer. Just a solid place to grab a game/ beers....and the restroom attendant was great....his recommendation to go to Buddy Guy's for blues was spot on. Would definitely go back to Harry's next time I'm in Chicago.

This review is simply for the excellent quality of the 13 oz. Filet Mignon that I had. I was at the restaurant with a group of other customers of a large software vendor. Since the vendor paid for everything, I can't really rate this restaurant on price or service, since we were in one of the large banquet rooms upstairs. However, I can honestly say that the Filet Mignon was one of the best I've ever had. It only comes in second to a bleu cheese crusted filet that I had at Morton's in Chicago a few years ago. As far as steak houses go, however, I prefer Morton's and Ruth's Chris. Next time I go to Chicago, I will also try Chicago Chop House and Gene & Georgetti's which were highly recommended to me.

Friendly, conversational bartenders making strong drinks. Food's about what you'd expect in a classier bar. Prices are a bit much given what you get in return but the atmosphere is fantastic and the staff is very attentive. Will be back for sure.

Beautiful place with great ambiance and good, friendly service. I loved all the memorabilia. I would definitely recommend everyone stop in and maybe have a beer, especially baseball fans (of which I am not). However, the food left a lot to be desired. We started with the Calamari. It was decent, but nothing out of the ordinary. In addition, the marinara sauce was kind of ketchup-y, not good. For the main course, I went with a steak; after all, this is a steak house. The waiter had touted their USDA prime, Midwestern, corn-fed beef as he showed us different choice cuts on a tray. The problem is that corn-fed beef is the minor league cousin of major league grass-fed beef. If you haven't had the opportunity to enjoy a steak from good grass-fed beef, I highly suggest you try some if you can. i like my cuts lean and tender, so I went with the 13 oz Filet Mignon, medium rare. The cut actually had pieces of fat on it and was far from lean. We had a side of the Vesuvio Potatoes which were really very plain. Thankfully, we were in excellent company, service was great and there was a nice amount of scotch consumed. I'm not sure I would eat here again, especially given the price point. The 2 stars simply speak to the quality of the ambiance and the service, which were wonderful enough to leave the door ever so slightly open.

Not a great experience. There were three hosts and not one of them smiled and said hello, just a hustle to the table. Friendly server but it was so obvious that his greeting, questions and phrasing were totally rehearsed. The rolls weren't warm. Maybe I'm being a nitpicky jerk here, but if someone's going to pay $45 for a steak, can't they buy a bun warmer with those profits? Really nice wine list, decent beer selection. The New York strip was good, but not the best steak I've ever had. The asparagus proscutto side was good, but very awkward to eat. Six spears but two pieces of meat to be divided by knife (not an easy task). Good spinach. I'll leave this place to the tourists, superfans and businessmen that seem to flock there. There are better places around than Harry Carey's.

Tourist trap extraordinaire! Great building. Huge sports bar. It's the Cubbies home and can be a lot of fun, and it can be a lot of loud. Food can be very good. Between two of us there were 5 (some serious) mistakes in the meal. Mistakes ranged from the wrong item to horribly prepared. You want the possibility of a very good, overpriced meal in a very touristy crowded joint... this is your place! Oh, if you're a Cubs fan, it's a must see. Ugh...

Harry Caray's is advertised as a high-end restaurant, with a sports bar atmosphere that specializes in Italian cuisine. Anyone else confused?? Rumor has it that their steak is pretty good, but if I wanted steak I would definitely visit Gibson's or Ruth Chris. I have ordered their salads and their hamburger plate from the main menu, no complaints on either. Their calamari is also a great appetizer option. They have a good selection of beer on tap, and the bartenders are always friendly and quick to strike up a conversation about the Cubbies. Harry Caray's has definitely become one of my favorite "down the river" options for lunch in the city.

A frequent stop for working lunches with my company. Surprisingly good steaks and a PHENOMINAL steak sandwich that I would run over my grandmother with a combine for. The pasta is very good too. Service has been good in my experience, dotted with a few rare instances of poor service. Plus it's good to sit among Harry's old stuff, if you close your eyes you can almost hear his famed home run call, or drunken ramblings.

Better than a typical tourist joint, but nothing super exciting. Every city has one of these places it seems: decent food, lots of signed photos of semi-famous people, sports memorobilia, etc. Service was good and they did have a tempting selection of cigars (which you can smoke at the bar...at least for another year or so before its banned :).

I had the prix fixed meal - salad (normal), filet mignon (sauce was good, but overall the whole thing was too salty), and flourless chocolate cake (the best part of the meal). When eating at a steakhouse, I expect superb steak - and I've had better steaks at many other restaurants - it was just ok here. Service was good.

A friend and I went on a weekend to the Rosemont location. Wow. We felt a bit under-dressed in the dining area, even though we were not the only ones in casual clothing. The servers never batted an eyelash about it. As we were both doing the gluten-free thing with actual portions, we asked if we could share a meal...it was soo not a problem. The lamb was INCREDIBLE, as were the potatoes and the spinach. The staff was courteous and attentive. Can't say enough about the food...just YUM.

O-VER-RA-TED. The Curse of the Billy Goat hangs not only on Harry Caray's beloved Cubs, but over his restaurant as well. I was exhausted from walking around in the snow and rain and so I head in from the cold. Only to find that it's also cold in the restaurant. We had to wait for a table, only to find out that the whole place was deserted. They stuck us at a small table and the chairs were so tightly packed together that the wait staff kept on bumping into my coat which I hung over my chair. The food was bland and tasteless and not filling. The lasagna that I asked for was just hamburger helper. I know, I can make that at home. My lady's talapia fish was perhaps the meatiest fish I've ever chewed on, and there was nothing to go with it. No vegetables, no soup, just a fish on a plate. I knew it was going to be a crap dining experience when the old dude in the bathroom put a hex on me. I had come in and needed to pee pretty bad. I walked up to the sink and he turned on the water. Then when I had soaped up my hands and rinsed them off he threw the paper towels on my hands. Fine, you beat me to it but I'm not tipping you just cuz you were quick on that draw. I could have turned on the faucet and grabbed a paper towel myself. I didn't even conversate with the guy. I was in the restroom for literally 45 seconds. He gave me the evil eye as I walked out but I wasn't about to be intimidated. If I got a dollar for 45 seconds of work, damn I'd be a bathroom attendant at Harry Caray's too. There's tons of sports memorobilia on the wall, but nothing to explain it. I tried to talk to our waiter but he didn't know his ass from his elbow about sports or the restaurant. Only what was expensive on the menu. I ate the bland lasagna, and my lady friend finished the fish. We were both unsatisfied and grouchy. If Harry Caray were alive, he wouldn't have let this place turn into a dump.

I don't get it. This place is a very decent Italian Steak House. The pasta dishes are excellent. I think the veal dishes are superb! But, the best are the crab cakes. Very large, very full of lump crab! I have never found a bit of cartilage in one of the dozens I have eaten. Not spicy at all and the remuolade is as good as it gets. Try Harry Carey's.. At least once and make your own mind up.

Holy COW, I ate veal. I can't believe I admitted it to the internet. But I did, I ate veal. Never before and not since. Doesn't make it right, though. Now, what I'm about to type you must read, then forget immediately: Veal is...delicious. God, I'm a horrible person. So yeah, after an hour and a half wait, my new husband and I order up dinner, and to my horror he selects the veal. After watching him sob for a few minutes at the experience that was a taste-bud-symphony-orgasm, I tried a bit of this veal and sage and I said to myself, Self, this is one of the best bites of food you've eaten in your days on the earth, and it will never happen again. Now step away from the veal. I had the pasta, and it was good. But I will never forget my moment of weakness. Delicious, delicious weakness.

Harry Caray's is a Chi-town staple, and Im from here. Yes, its touristy, but its consistently consistent, if that makes sense. The fun atmosphere of everything baseball and Harry to the great wait staff and the food, this is a great place to bring out of towners and grab a brew after work! Always sports, all the time.

Do you like Meat? Do you like Beef? Do you like well aged, melt in your mouth, perfectly cooked Beef? Can you put aside your urge to drink a Cosmo and enjoy an ice cold Bud Light? If you answered yes to these questions go to this restaurant. Trust me. I've been to a bunch of the 'top-rated' steak houses in Chicago and this one is the bee's knees, the cat's whiskers, and the frog's pajamas whichever you prefer when referring to things in 1920's slang. I've personally seen the chefs in the back with huge chunks of aged beef slicing steaks to order, this makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Every steak that I've had here (about 5-6 so far) has been cooked exactly to my specifications (medium to medium rare, depending on the cut). The meat is cooked in such a way that when its cut the right way the beef will melt like meat flavored candy in your mouth. Also, due to some large unexplainable geologic anomaly, Bud Light actually tastes pretty good in this restaurant. I'm all for the high end American micro-brews and lofty imports with funny names, but somehow the good old college standby actually tastes like a classy beer. I wouldn't order anything else besides a steak, a few fix-ins(potatoes/asparagus/mushrooms/etc.), and some good beer or wine, its like going fishing and then coming home to have some nice chicken... it just doesn't work. Now, I've gone here with people who disagree with this line of logic and they have been completely satisfied with their food (my dad got the chicken vesuvio and he contemplated leaving my mom for it) However its my personal preference that once I find a winner, I bet the house on it. Although there are only a two thing could possibly make this place better: 1. Make the Ala cart thing optional, I can understand the draw of having just a steak. However, most of the time a little veg would be appreciated. 2. The price for the sides is just madness, I know we are in a recession here but since when do I have to pay $7 for 4 spears of asparagus or $10 for Little tin of mushrooms? 3. Who came up with the idea for the pushy guy in the bathroom who talks trash about his wife? Just because this room is for guys doesn't mean its our little clubhouse bro. I feel no need to tip you, unless your gonna hold it for me and make me feel safe (read... this is a joke). Overall the service in this place is excellent, the drinks are poured strong, the good spirit of the cubs surrounds you like a blanket, and the atmosphere is perfect for an Italian steakhouse. I highly recommend this restaurant, especially if someone else is paying. Alot of people have put up bad reviews but that's because they ordered dumb things. Sorry guys but last I checked Chicago isn't known for its seafood.

Ate there three nights ago. We usually visit Gibsons whenever we're in the city, but decided to try something different. Apparently, the Trib identified Harry Caray's as the best steak in town, or something to that effect. Not so much. The waiter recommended the bruschetta as one of the better appetizers. It was basically tomatoes on toasted bread - very little seasoning. My wife's prime rib was the same - cooked well, but not a lot of flavor to speak of. I had the filet mignon, and my experience was like XB's review. It was cooked perfectly, but the cut was rather flat and there were stringy parts that I couldn't eat. I probably left 3 oz. of a 9 oz. steak on my plate as unedible. I'm used to filets that stand upright and are tender. On a positive note, the service was excellent. BTW, one salad, one appetizer, two entres, two sides and a large bottle of S. Pellegrino water, plus tip, came to $150. We'll be back at Gibsons next time.

So, amazing! I came here with almost 30 girls for a bachelorette party on a saturday night. We had a reservation at 7pm and we were sat right away! The waitstaff was very quick and the food was very fast! I ordered one of the specials, the beef tenderloin with spinach and mushrooms. It had a smokey flavor and was absloutely delicous. My friends said my dinner was the best. I also tried a little off of everyone elses plate. The eggplant parm and pesto penne were good too! The service was so great! And so were the other diners! For being 30 of us we got a little loud at some points and no one seemed to mind. they actually all were laughing and seemed to be okay with us having such a good time. One of the men at a table next to us even bought all of us girls a round of patron shots! So great! Id go back for sure.

I ordered the ribs when I came here the were pretty tasty. I am a huge Chicago sports fanatic, and this place is awesome. Tons of Chicago history here. Even the blown up Steve Bartman ball. I had the toasted raviolis as an app, HOLY COW were they good!

I liked Harry Caray's. The menu was surprisingly vegetarian-friendly for a steakhouse (though, veg friends beware--anchovy in the marinara, pork [?] stock in the minestrone). The waiter was very up front about our options and also accommodating. (Usually we don't go to steakhouses for obvious reasons, but we were having a party for a dude who likes steak.) We started with the fried polenta, which was something I'd never had before, and it was AWESOME. I had the whole wheat pasta with aglio/olio, which was very tasty. I forget what anyone else had, but they enjoyed theirs, too. ;)

The first time the hubby who was the fiance at the time and I stayed in Chicago, we saw Harry Caray's across from our hotel. Since he's a big Cubs fan, and I was thinking it'd be hot dogs and fries, I was a go. This was back in 2004. In we walked into the restaurant to see people a bit more dressed up compared to our jeans and sweatshirts, eek, but no biggie, there isn't a dress code. A quick scan of the menu showed me this was pasta and steak. Grrr, I wanted baseball food, lol. I had pasta that I had liked and he ordered a steak. That steak was amazing. Soooo flavorful and juicy. We ventured back to ol' Harry Caray's a few weeks ago. I'm not a big steak person at all, but I wanted some flavorful steak. I remember thinking jesus that's such a huge portion, I'll eat half of it if I'm lucky. Oh no, I polished that bad boy off. My god, it's so flavorful and juicy! Hands down, best steak I've ever had. Well, there was a good steak at Fogo de Chao in Austin, but I can't remember what that was called. Anywho, absolutely awesome! The hubby has already requested a visit for his birthday dinner. Oh yeah, I'll be saving calories for that steak!

great food but meh on the service. neat lil' joint. filet mignon was delish~ they cooked it just right. tiramisu was great... mac n cheese & creamed spinach sides were yum... apparently their pasta dishes are fantastic too. and for those with a hearty appetite, their porterhouse is one not to miss. one big thing i didn't like about this place was that i felt super rushed to eat. the food came out super quick (we had just gotten our appetizers served and no more than 5 minutes later, main entrees were being served). they also try to clear off your table while you're still eating (i don't like to be asked "are you done~?") if it were a super busy night, i could alllmost understand the rush but nope. there were plenty of open tables. i think our guys were just borderline obnoxious. so for that, i docked you a star.

If you want to have a great dinner while simultaneously visiting the best baseball museum in the city this place is for you. The italian dishes are as good as anywhere (sans Chicago's hidden gems) and the steak rivals any Chicago steakhouse. Don't be turned off by the novelty of the name. This place is top notch.

I went here for a work lunch paid that was paid for, so I can't comment on whether this was a good deal. My Filet Mignon was delicious. I don't know if Steak houses are always a la carte, but I found it odd that it was just a steak. I got a side of mashed potatoes that were also great. Those could have been shared among 2 people, same with the Spinach. One of the guys ordered Asparagus, and that was a single serving. The flour-less chocolate cake was also great.

Let me put this in perspective: GF and I had only had lattes the whole day, it was 6pm on a Friday - we were tired and starving and walking from our loop abode to Quartino...when we happened upon HC's and decided to see if there was a wait. There wasn't, and we decided to change plans and EAT! We were glad we stopped in - I had the meatloaf special (and I don't usually like that kind of thing...but hey, it is time to fatten up for the cold Chicago winter :) and she had spinach macaroni with spicy sausage (yea, she needs to fatten up too....). Both were excellent and HUGE. Service was good, the space is very unique will all kinds of fun stuff to look at - and overall, I would definitely head back here again. A place to check out for a fun "Chicago" experience and solid food - I think I'll be back! PS- their mini outpost in Midway Airport was pretty good as well....

this is a review of the BAR. this could be the friendliest bar i've ever visited. i went to harry's because i was looking for a place that might possibly have the giants on tv at a time when the cubs and the white sox were both playing. tried keefer's but no dice. across the street to harry's and bingo. within a couple of minutes of sitting down, the bartender was showing another customer pics of her 6 year old daughter and before you know it, i was being shown the pictures and it was like i was a regular. got into a baseball conversation with the guy next to me about brewers and tigers and cubs (oh my!). i seriously went to have one beer and check out the game but ended up there until midnight or so (note: i am NOT adding a star because the giants were down 4-0 and scored 4 in the bottom of the ninth to tie the score...although i probably should). very, very friendlly place. the BEST big plasmas i've ever seen in a bar and lots of them. friendly crowd. the drinks were not cheap by chicago standards but not bad by comparison to sf. i'll definitely check this place out when i'm back in town in the future. *useful note to new yelpers: see, i didn't force fit a 'holy cow' joke into the review. you have to let it flow~ **sad note: giants lose in 13.

Ah ya can't beat fun at the ol' ballpark, or at Harry Caray's namesake restaurant. A giant cartoon mural of the legendary sportscaster is splashed on the wall next to the entrance, and the place is known for its steaks and the chicken vesuvio. The cavernous bar atmosphere is loud, a bit of a surprise to find in a red brick Dutch-style building. Recently a bizarre promotion involved blowing up the infamous Bartman baseball and using the remnants in the pasta sauce (ugh !) to ward off the evil losing jinx spirits plaguing the Chicago Cubs.

Oh how I wish I wasn' suffering a horrific allergy attack when I went to Chicago last week! In town for a convention in February, we had a table for 8 (or was it 10) at Harry Caray's and I was so deliriously out of sorts that I really wasn't able to enjoy all the delectable food that was in front of me! Beautiful selections of meat -- if you are not a meat person -- you might not truly appreciate some of the items on the menu. We had an extensive sampling of appetizers, side orders that smelled wonderful and then, the main course, I had the lamb, my compadres had the pork, the tenderloin, the Kansas City strip and who knows what else! Everything was well presented, delicious and I couldn't spend enough time perusing ALL the memorabilia hanging about the dining room in which we were seated. My favorite funny thing on the wall was the autographed photo of Rudy Guiliani which was above me -- and the old news clippings, cartoons and signed balls, bats, jerseys, et cetera. I hope that my hosts will take me back next time I'm in town...because we didn't even touch the specialty drink menu OR the desserts!

This is a terrific lunch spot to satisfy a variety of tastes! Prices are very reasonable. Try the Dutchie's Salad with blackened chicken! Service was outstanding as was the food. The decor will make you want to skip out on work to catch a ball game! Also enjoy the architecture of the building which was designed by architect Henry Ives Cobb in 1895, long before the steel and glass buildings surrounding it. This was originally the home of the Chicago Varnish Company. More on the building history here: bit.ly/dWSw2K

Family and friends that have lived in Chicago longer than I have have recommended this place several times and I finally got to go. I was impressed. The quality of food is great, especially with their steaks which are perfectly cooked to your specifications (most places I find have difficulty getting medium rare right). The portions are BIG like any normal steakhouse and the prices are, well pricey (depends on whether you think $35 is appropriate for a 16oz NY Strip). All in all, this is a great place for a special occasion (unless you can afford to go more often).

I have been here twice now and have been disappointed both times. I feel like a sports themed restaurant should have burgers and fries not $30 steaks. Let me say I don't eat steak and haven't for awhile now. The first time I was here I had the pasta and the most recent time I had grilled tuna. The friends I was with on this last visit to Harry Caray's did all enjoy their steaks though. I feel like for $30 you should get more then just the piece of meat on the plate. They charge you extra for a side. If you don't like steak or sports this isn't going to be the places for you, I have learned this twice now. If you go make sure you make a reservation and still be ready to wait for your table. I don't think I will be going back unless someone else is buying.

One cannot be in Chicago and not do some touristy stuff and that's what brought us new residents here. I love the decor --- it does the theme right without being cheesy. But the four of us must have done something wrong with our orders. Two of us had the highly-hailed chicken Vesuvio. I can do as good a job at home without the moderate price tag. I honestly forgot what the husband had, a testament to how unmemorable his meal is. Another friend who is a sucker for lamb had that. It was OK. Price is pretty steep (maybe we are paying for the downtown rent). Seating is really cramped. Service is good and the waiter, bless his heart, is really tolerant to our endless questions. I was told that the men's restroom has one of those old-time service where one is handed towels, and accoutrements. The ladies' restroom is devoid of any ameneties. Hmmm. I suppose this is a man's place through and through -- down to the humidor.

Excellent food and atmosphere. We started with the calamari, it was delicious. Everyone at our table ordered the filet mignon and it was cooked to perfection. We could cut it with a fork. Our waiter was awesome, he told us the back story of the building and about who supposedly haunts it. Loved it and definitely going back next time we visit Chicago!

I recently attended a bar association event at Harry Caray's on Kinzie that included a buffet-style dinner. Buffets and a gluten intolerance don't usually work well together so I asked one of the waiters what I could eat from the various options. He checked with the chef and returned to say that while some of the options did not contain any gluten ingredients, they could not be sure they had not been cross-contaminated in the preparation or serving process and did not recommend me eating from the buffet if I was quite sensitive. At first I was somewhat disappointed. However, the waiter continued by offering to prepare an entree from the restaurant's gluten-free menu. I was pleasantly surprised. The server then brought me a gluten-free pasta dish with chicken... which was apparently just the first plate because shortly after the server also brought out a plated filet mignon with vegetables as an entree. I was more than impressed with the restaurant's service, to say the least.

Following the shock realization that our favorite Italian place in the River North area had closed, we went in search of a new spot. Frustrating by the mix of reviews we broke down and asked the hotel. The girl behind the counter suggested Harry Caray's. "Isn't that more of a sports bar/steakhouse?" I said, but she assured me they had the best Italian food in the neighborhood. I will say my salad and the calamari were great and Jorge was one of the best waiters I have had in my life but the main event was pretty lackluster. I guess if it hadn't been so built up as the "best Italian in the area" I may have thought it was okay but I was hoping for something more. Expectations management.

Good fun environment with lots of sports memorabilia. I got a rib eye and it was good, but not the best rib eye I've had before. The sides were so-so. Another touristy restaurant. I'm sure there are better steak houses in Chicago.

At $40-$50 per steak, I might go there again on an expense account but not on my own dime. Was in Chicago for the first time for a conference and this place was recommended by a friend who lives there. Had a bone-in rib eye that was very good although I wish I didn't get the horseradish coating that was offered as an option. Garlic mashed and spinach in garlic and olive oil were decent, nothing to brag about. The mashed potatoes actually seemed a little dry and uninspired. There service was very good and efficient (always had water refills) but again, uninspired. The hostess was awful. Seated us at a table that jutted out between the two main dining rooms and it was clear that it was a high traffic area and the place where the servers staged food and setup their tray stands. We requested to move but the hostess just looked annoyed and said we'd have to wait for a while for a new table or take this one. She was not the least bit apologetic for the location of the current table. Didn't save room for dessert.

Been here a couple of times and kinda like it. Yes, the food can be a little overpriced but that's what happens when you name the place after a celebrity. I'm a huge Cubs fan but don't go there expecting some player hanging out there something like that. Go there with a positive attitude and enjoy the large portions and a good steak or some seafood.

Items ordered: Apps: Calamari Toasted Ravioli Lunch: Chicken Parm Sandwich Filet Sliders The food was delicious! I wasn't a huge fan of the Filet Sliders but that's just personal preference. I'm also not a fan of steak fries so I opted for the chips (didn't see them on the menu). It can get a bit pricey, but it's something you have to do when you're in Chicago!

Must must get steak when you go there. There are millions of other Italian restaurants that are good for their pasta and pizza...but here please order the steak. You can actually have them bring you the raw cuts of meat that you can choose from. Very flavorful, coked to perfection...every time ... Plus it's an old Chicago landmark, that you wanna visit. I love steak!!!

I've never been here for lunch, but I try to eat dinner here when I'm in town. The steaks are yum. I'm always tempted to get something else, but I can't resist the filet mignon. I like it with the gorgonzala crust. Yum. I work for a protein company, and I've taken several beef guys there, and they gave it high marks. The bread and veggies are good too, but the steak is the best. Better have a long walk before and after because the desserts are good too. The dining room is separate from the bar. It's all bricks and old looking. The atmosphere is very Chicago. If you're there at 7:30, they sing "Take me out to the ballgame" in the bar. I'm not really a big baseball fan, but it's fun.

an insult to Chicago they'd be better off moving this to O'Hare so the east coast tourists can get "home cooking". it's not good food by Chicago standards. It's that fake "italian" food in the northeast. They gussy it up with sports stars and get people who never heard Harry broadcast all riled up about him (most never listened to him - but now, "everybody" was a fan... argh!) it's all hype. all for tourists. No Chicago in it. I'm sorry Harry - this restaurant matches your broadcasting in the mid 90s... sorry... :(

I love everything about Harry Caray's, but most specifically... The service - everyone from the host to the servers are friendly and there to ensure that you have a good experience. They even serenaded my husband and I when we came for dinner right after getting engaged. The chicken vesuvio sandwich - how have I lived my entire life without your juicy goodness?? The Cubs memorobilia - stroll around with a drink and check out everything and all things Cubbie.

Ate here on Sunday during the Cardinal/ Packer game. Service was good and attentive. The food was good, had cheese raviolis that had a good breading and weren't overcooked. The marinara that accompanied the ravioli was mediocre at best and dissapointing for a place that is an "italian steakhouse". I also had Rigatoni a la Vodka Tomato Cream that was delicious. overall I enjoyed my experience and would definitely return.

My boyfriend and I came here about a month ago. As expected, there was a wait so we headed to the over-crowded bar area to have a couple beers. After shuffling our way to the bar, we ordered our beers and that's when I realized OOPS - forgot my wallet and ID at home. The bartender asks "would you like a soda or water, sweetie?". Uhh no, I want a beer... so I decided to run 3 blocks back to my apartment. I hate being called sweetie. The moment I returned, our table was ready so we headed into the dining room. 15 minutes after sitting down at our table, we were greeted by our waiter. Alas, I ordered a beer... and of course, didn't get carded. Oh well. 10 minutes after that the waiter came back with the beers. I ended up ordering a cup of soup to start with and crab cakes as an entree. My boyfriend ordered a small salad and a steak. Well, the crab cakes and steak came out about 45 minutes after we ordered. Which seemed like forever because... WE NEVER GOT OUR SOUP AND SALAD! So we asked the waiter where the soup and salad were and he said he didn't know and asked if we still wanted them. He said they'd be on the house, so we said sure.. why not, right? Well, my mushroom soup was good.. and so were the crab cakes but they are much better at Joe's. My boyfriend's medium-rare cooked steak was dry.... how does that happen? We did not complain about the food at all. I'd rather just not return than make a big deal about it. But the waiter surprised us with a piece of key lime pie.. on the house. It was DELICIOUS! And worthy of the 2nd star. Though the soup/salad and dessert was on the house.. the meal still wasn't cheap. Next time, we will go to Smith and Wollensky's for good steak and service.

My dining companion was not fond of his steak; I was not cool with the unadvertised bell peppers in the salad; and my pasta was overcooked. However...it was still an ok experience, and it wasn't that expensive ($130 and we each had a few drinks). If you go here, you need to request that you are seated in Tweed's section, because he is entirely awesome and you will have a fabulous experience even if the food is not so hot. I've eaten here previously and it was fine, so this is an average. But seriously on Tweed. You can't miss with him. The computer system was down so there were many freebies thrown our way, which was a classy thing to do.

Had lunch with the girls over the weekend - only the bar was open on Sunday morning - and had good options from the kitchen and the deli bar. It's good American fare. I LOVE their chips - free on every table! I always seek out their booth at the Taste of Chicago for the chips!! Oh and be sure to check out the holy cow statue - great stuff!

Awesome! That is about the only suitable work to describe such a fine establishment! Everybody who talked to us was nothing but nice and helpful. Now onto the food, there are steaks more expensive but none better. My steak was cooked a perfect medium rare just as I had asked. The out side wasn't burnt but it was crunchy and perfectly charred, the center was a warm pink/red and tender as could be. The garlic mashed potatoes and the creme brûlée was on point as well! Great atmosphere, great restaurant. Harry would have wanted it no other way!

We got married here last night. The night was phenomenal. The catering people were so kind and helpful, the room was so pretty, and the food was AWESOME! We had so many people come up to us and say this was the best wedding food they've ever had. We definitely recommend the risotto bar. I don't know what else to say, it was perfect.

I took my mother here for Thanksgiving dinner. Of course, it was busy. The service seemed a bit rushed at first but then the waitress laid off for awhile to give us time to relax. We ordered a cheap bottle of wine but if came after the appetizers which to me is not right. I expect my beverage before I receive any food. The food was very flavorful and the portions were acceptable. The décor was really entertaining, many photos and newspaper clippings. I would like to come back on a regular day and see how things are.

I'd give it six if they'd let me. I've been here a dozen times at least. Sometimes chowing at the bar solo . Sometimes with a big table , sometimes just two in the dining room. Never , never and brother I mean NEVER have I had a bad steak.I'm giving this place props as the best steak I've had in Chicago and the best steak I've had period. You want it med rare. You got it. I've never once had a steak not cooked to perfection at Harry's. Some say its touristy. So what. Its great food. The staff is great. Bartenders have an old school vibe and are more than happy to bring out dinner to the bar. Some people look down on eating at the bar. Personally , I think thats insensitive and pretentious. I've got a word for people like that: Democrats! If you're at the bar and get hungry .Eat! Why not. On to the food... Apps are good . Calamari is tasty, bruschetta is good. If you've never had toasted ravioli get some. Wondering about the asparagus and prosciutto , its pretty good too. The sides are pretty much what you would expect at a steakhouse. Standard fare thats hard to screw up. The steaks. Fantastic I've had steaks all over , including all the great spots in Chicago , and this place has never let me down. Always cooked to a perfect med rare .Every time I've ordered a steak here its been cooked to perfection. I've had the NY Strip , KC strip and even the grass fed strip.WOW , the grass fed strip was soooo good. I even went off the grid and had the veal marsala and it was good. The staff is top shelf and always are attentive enough but not overbearing. If you're looking for a fantastic steak in the great city of chicago.Look no further than Harry's .Knock down a few in the bar and then plow thru some bovine.

i admit it, i'm a tourist. i enjoyed it here... nice service and good food. it's pretty expensive but the waiter had no qualms about my friend and i splitting a $19 dish (in fact, he suggested it!). in nyc, they encourage separate entree ordering.. probably bc they want a bigger bill for a bigger tip. the only negative thing is that the restaurant portion seems to close so early... try the crispy polenta w/ mushroom sauce and balsamic vinegar! it's so delicious...

I've only been here once for lunch. I had a typical chicken sandwich with fries..... the best part was the appetizer though....crab cakes....mmmm they were for real yummy.... :o) Oh, ya, the only thing that really bothered me was that all that Cubs memorabilia was making me gag....just kidding....GO WHITE SOX! :)

No matter how tempting do not order the surf and turf...its pretty ridiculously priced. Then again, what do you expect, HC's is a huge tourist attraction. It's way more high classed than I am, which is probably why I'm not there much. You're going to over pay, but you know that walking in. Its going to be full in the summer, you already know that, too. They will be some famous faces there, even sitting next to you. Not like Lil Wayne famous, but athletes, politicians, announcers...yadda yadda. The steak is...well lets just say I'm a meat-eater and I've never had better. Its to the point now I dream about eating steak here. The chicken alfredo is amazing as well. But don't order the surf and turf!!

Good food, but the place seems oriented towards Chicagoland tourists that share the culture but don't know where to eat in the city. The food's worth four stars, but not the prices.

I went to the actual restaurant for a birthday several years ago, and remember having a good time. The meat was good and I loved the desserts. Understandably many of my college student buddies found it to be pretty pricey. What I really love is the food in the bar. I sometimes dream about the prime rib sandwich. It's that good. The chips are also an obvious must. Seriously now.

Horrible service at the bar. There were about 4 people at the bar yesterday during a cold and very snowy night. It took about 3 minutes for a bartender to come over to get my drink order without a basica hello or any normal type of greeting. I was actually done with the beer for 16 minutes with the bartender (don't know his name, but he is the guy that is Tribune Live with Dave kaplan) walking by me at least 10 times without asking if I needed another one or was done for the evening. I ended up getting the receipt from inside the glass he left it in and paid the bill without any further basic conversation. So, if you're looking for unfriendly service (or any service at all) while paying $6 for a 312 beer, this is the place to go. They won't ever get any business from me again.

I recently had Harry Caray's cater my wedding- and it was wonderful!! We had a very Chicago themed wedding- and everything was just perfect. Amazing salad, italian beefs, build your own hot dog ( people raved about this) and pasta! The service was impeccable, from bringing the wedding party champagne and appetizers ( the mac and cheese bites were incredible) to putting out our "trick or treat" candy bar ( we got married on Halloween). Gabi is the one who made it all happen- she was truly amazing to work with. I recommend them to anyone bringing in an outside caterer to their wedding- it was everything we had hoped.

This place is an absolute must for any who grew up watching the Cubs play on WGN, even if you're not from Chicago. It's a steakhouse so I had the steak. It was absolutely amazing! Go for the toasted ravioli as a starter and you've got an amazing meal. We made reservations so I can't attest to wait time but there didn't seem to be any wait all. The only downside to this visit however was that the banked called and stated I was charged three separate times for three separate prices. It took some calls and and finagling with the accounting department, but we eventually worked everything out. If not for this, this would be a five star experience.

A great place to go if you just want a good steak at a place without a dress code. I came here for my graduation dinner for that exact reason - great food, no pretentiousness, great service. Mom and I had a delicious strip steak, dad had a good ribeye, sister had chicken fingers (she's a little one) - just solid good food for the whole family.

Great bar! I am from Phoenix and was visiting last April and stopped in after a Shinedown concert on our first night in town. It may have been that we hadn't eaten all day, or from all the drinking, but the homemade potato chips really hit the spot! Bartender was very friendly, when she asked what we were drinking we said "Well Harry Caray says ask for America's Lager" She replied "What's that?" "It's only painted in a giant mural outside" "I've worked here for years and have never looked that closely at it" "Ok.......Budweiser" I believe it was a Thursday so it wasn't that packed, but we made sure to comeback for some food the next night! A little pricey, but well worth it.

I've been here for a lunch a few times, and the Chicken Vesuvio was quite impressive. Be careful not to get full off of eating the chips that they have on tables. They can be addicting. You want to save room for your entree. If you are a sports fan it's has that really nice laid back atmosphere. If you are looking for a spot that best describes Chicago, this would be the spot.

I'm of the opinion that Harry Caray's is a place that you should definitely go to once or twice, perhaps if you have family coming in from out of town (as I've done,) but leave it at that. The food is good, the atmosphere is solid, the bar area where you can wait for a table is better than average. My only knock on it is that it is very touristy. For the prices you pay for the food here, you can find plenty of much better, much less crowded places in Chicago. However, it's a classic big name place that I feel every person choosing to live in Chicago should go to at least once.

We went here with some folks who are from out of town who love to come here whenever they visit. I personally hadn't been here in at least 12 years, maybe more. Well, the food was outstanding. Everything was really good- I had the boneless chicken vesuvio, and the others ordered a filet, salmon, scallops, and another vesuvio. Everybody was quite happy with their food. The bussers were phenomenal- they kept the table clean, the water full, and all the other stuff. However, our server was probably a little too casual. She rushed us to order drinks- we'd said we wanted to wait until one person came back to the table. She actually came back not even 2 minutes later and said, "Okay, let's take a drink order, we're not going to wait for this guy." Yeah. And something along the lines of either "we have to keep things moving" or "we don't have all night." If it was a lame attempt at being funny, that was bad enough. If it wasn't an attempt at humor, that's even worse. The same thing happened with ordering food- I just was really aggravated at her repeated attempts to rush us. If we had really been moving along slowly, that would have been one thing, but she must have had us confused with regulars who eat the same thing on every visit. I realize it was Saint Patrick's Day weekend, but serving beers in plastic cups was pretty shameful. Given the raucous crowd in the bar, that's fine- plastic cups to help you keep up with busy demand. But when the average entree is over $25, it would be nice to not be drinking out of a Dixie cup. We're in the dining room, so maybe a little big boy treatment is warranted. I hope they normally serve beer in glasses or else that's just ri-goddam-diculous. I loved the food, but the server pissed me off. Demote her and let one of the far more service-oriented bussers take her spot!

Well let me start by saying, that I wish I would have went here during dinner hour! My Dad and I flew into Chicago at 9 o'clock at night and by time we got to our hotel, it 10pm and we were starving. I have heard of Harry Carays and wanted to try it out. Being so late, we figured they would let us dine in the dinning area, so the bar area was fine. We also figured they had a bar menu for late hours. They didn't! our server gave us a dinner menu and at first I was kinda uncomfortable about eating a nice meal in the bar area. But we were starving so we ordered any way. We ordered Toasted Ravioli and Spaghetti. and I was impressed. 20 minutes before for the kitchen we ordered our food and in a timely manner we received our food. The food tasted great. It disappoints me, that I wasn't there to have a full dinner! The atmosphere and decor was amazing and just the type of place I like. I def. will go back and recommend to my friends and family

Service at the front desk was the worst I've ever experienced! After such a rude welcome, I don't think last night's dinner recovered, despite the: + really good (but not great) steaks + decent (but not great) sides + really good waiter + excellent wine recommendation. For the price, I prefer the steaks, sides, and service across the street at Keefers. I'm leaving this one to the tourists. If you're set on going here, I'd recommend grabbing a drink at the bar -- checking out the Cubs memorabilia -- and then eating elsewhere.

Harry Caray's has been around since 1987, in a beautiful old building in River North. I worked in the area--510 N. Dearborn--20 years ago. I never had occasion to go then, but on a rainy Sunday afternoon this August, while my family and I were running and ducking for cover during a downpour, the sheltered canopy of the entrance looked a lot more inviting than a pizza place down the street that was our original choice. We were seated promptly, and our server was there within moments with menus and to take our drink orders. A large platter of the meats available was presented, with details about each cut. Ultimately, one child chose chicken fingers (children's menu) while the other chose spaghetti and meatballs (regular menu). I selected the seafood fettuccine while the better half chose the lobster risotto. Both of the kids were satisfied with their choice, and the meatballs (two cue ball size on a bed of spaghetti with marinara sauce) were better than my homemade ones (sigh--better step up my game with the ground meat dishes). It's the "adult" entrees that fell short of expectations My spouse wasn't thrilled with the lobster risotto, and I didn't press for details. The seafood fettuccine consisted of a cream sauce with sea scallops and jumbo shrimp--three of each--with a garnish of chives and red pepper. The scallops were sweet and tender--too tender--like cutting into room temperature butter, and one of them had no indication that it had been seared at all. The shrimp were tough and unevenly cooked and not at the peak of freshness. I suppose I should have remembered the adage that you should never order seafood on Mondays (or Sunday afternoons) and realized that seafood in the Midwest had to come a lot further from the source than seafood in Houston and Galveston in the first place (thanks for spoiling me without realizing it Gaido's and Pappadeaux's). The cream sauce was flavorless and the pasta was gummy. Harry Caray's is known as a steakhouse and perhaps that is what it is best at. If I had to do it again, I would order one of the steaks. There is a prix fixe menu, but otherwise you order your sides separately from your entree ($6 for broccoli, and I think it was the same for all, but it was an order of broccoli that would easily serve 4, and it was well-steamed, not mushy or flavorless). The service is attentive and professional. Iced teas were kept freshened and sodas replenished. The bread before the meal was yummy. If you are a sports fan (especially Chicago teams), you will not be disappoined by the decor. At the entrance check out the photo of a young Illinois state senator destined for a greater office and the current mayor of Chicago, among other celebrities from the sports and entertainment world. Food a 2, Service 4+

Met some family here for lunch over the weekend, and had some bland beer-cheese soup with bacon on top that my server had raved about, but it was just ok, and an overcooked tuna sandwich, which was actually called the "GRILLED RARE YELLOWFIN TUNA" sandwich... Holy Cow, no excuse, really. I think this place is probably better if you're looking for a steakhouse experience - I can think of several better lunch spots in river north and the loop, though I've eaten dinner at the Harry Caray's in Rosemont and I'd give 3-4 stars if I was basing my review on that experience. I'd recommend this place for tourists and sports fans though - interesting memorabilia lines the walls, and as a die-hard Cubs fan that was cool to see. It's worth checking this place out once, but maybe not twice.

Out of town friends request and usually not a bad one. My first visit for a Saturday night dinner was surprisingly excellent, white tablecloth dining on a steak and the best sauteed mushrooms this side of a Japanese hibachi. The service then was suberp. The service for lunch with a new waiter was absolutely the worst I've received at any restaurant in Chicago, no exaggeration. Our waiter was absent for 15 minutes, another waiter stopped by to describe some food that he heard us asking about. Our drink orders were taken by those who don't know even basic English and we had trouble communicating with them to retrieve our waiter. It was another 15 minutes before we could order. This was the longest and most pointless lunch ever. One of my companion ordered the crab cakes dinner portion pointing at the location on the menu where it is. The rest of us ordered entrees as well. When they finally arrived another 30 minutes she received a single crab cake. First of all, crab cakes is plural so I don't care if the appetizer portion is just one, that is complete BS. If he thought she was ordering one, a good waiter would have inquired further. She asked about it and he said the appetizer and the entree lunch portion were just one cake; not buying this she asked why the entree was double the price. He evaded the question and asked if he should bring another. She said no. Several minutes later he came to explain how he's knew and that the dinner portion is two, etc., really not convincing us. He said he was going to go ahead and bring another one from the grill. My date said no, but after he insisted she said 'fine, maybe someone else can eat it, i'm full.' Everyone assumed this would be comped, especially since she DID NOT WANT IT. It came but the suprise came with the bill where we got upcharged. He had to have gone back in to the system and changed it from appetizer to main portion even though it was his mistake. This guy sucks. We argued with him and he was not apologetic or understanding; we asked to see his manager. We waited 5 minutes and no manager arrived. This guy was so sketchy he didn't even go get the manager. My friend then went all the way to the front of the restaurant to get the manager and he cleared up everything and then some. He said they were having some growing pains. Well, Kirk Cameron should be fired. At any rate, the manager restored a couple stars up there at the top and my excellent huge Salmon Burger and sweet potato fries helped too but just can't overcome the worse than bad service.

My bf's family was in town for his graduation & we all went here for a late dinner last Saturday. Here were the comments I heard: - It's a good steak. I don't think it's the best I've ever eaten, but good nonetheless. - This salad is soooooo good. - This is one of the only places in Chicago I know of that serves meat-filled toasted ravs. - I wish they included sides with the steak. I like a little potato or vegetable with my meat. - Wasn't sure if they were going to have Cardinals memorabilia, too. Glad they do. (they're from St. Louis) My thoughts? Our waiter was fantastic. Very personable, very attentive, very knowledgeable, very patient with our excessive questions. If you've read any of my reviews, you'll find a common theme & that is that service is extremely important to me. He was magnificent. They didn't balk at splitting dishes, which is good for little eaters like me. The specialty salad of the day (with portobello) was very very good. Pistachio-encrusted goat cheese was a nice addition & really did complement the large, tasty mushroom. It was an enjoyable end to a long day.

If you're not at Wrigley, this is another great place to watch a Cubs game AND get good food. Although the dining room is nice, I prefer to chill in the bar and order dinner there--you can cheer when a Cubbie hits a dinger and they have really awesome potato chips on all the bar tables. For an appeteaser, we had the mushroom polenta--very tasty! And for dinner, I had the penne a la vodka--which was good, and my friend had the filet mignon--which was really good. I would certainly go back--but not before I gave some other joints a try first.

I had a small fillet, my wife the salmon. We both enjoyed it very much! The steak was better than the one I had at Morton's 3 days later. Ordered the steak med well, and they did not butterfy it like Morton's did. They also know not to overcook the salmon. Very accomodating, allowing us to split our side dishes.

Went her with my family on a whim - so I didn't know what to expect. The steaks (bone in rib eye and porterhouse) turned out to be amazing! The meat was so tender and grilled to perfection. This was seriously the best steaks I have had a very long time, even better than the ones in Argentina! It makes me sad that I don't live in Chicago, but I'll be damn sure to come back whenever I'm back in town.

When ever I'm in Chicago for business I eat here. Most often alone and the waitstaff makes you feel very comfortable. I usually get the grass fed filet and the Dutchie's salad. They sometimes have this desert of a cookie fruit basket with lavender cream that is wonderful.

I always thought Harry Caray's was a typical sports bar with bar food, but I was recently proved wrong after a few of my co-workers and I lunched there. My salad was great & I'm very picky when it comes to a good salad. I had another surprise when we received the bill...much more expensive than I expected from this place, but I guess I was expecting a different type of place. I'll definitely be back for another salad soon.

It's not the best steakhouse, it's not the best Italian restaurant, and it's probably not the best sports bar. But it's Harry Caray's and it's an amazing mix of all those things. It's also a landmark and a tradition with memorabilia everywhere. Tourists: go because it's very Chicago. Locals: go because it's fun. The food is a solid 3-4 stars, but the atmosphere is what breaks the tie. You won't go hungry, you won't be disappointed. And the creamed spinach is the best anywhere. Everything else is competitive rather than exceptional and when I'm hungry, competitive is okay when I'm having a good time.

Nice lunch spot to have a good sandwich and a few beers while skipping out on work. Or at least that was my impression of Harry Caray's when I visited while in town for a trade show. The pulled pork sandwich was tasty, the staff was friendly, and the beers were cold. That's a win-win in my book!

For those of you looking for the best steak in the city- here it is. The usual dinner with clients always brings us to the top steak houses- Gibsons, Gene and Georgettis, Chop House, Primehouse, etc. But time and time again, the steak at Harry's is far and above the best. While those other places consider the ambiance more important than the food, Harry Caray's is ALL about the food. While it is cool to see all the great photos of past ballplayers, and great to be able to go into the bar and watch a Cubs game, it is ALL about the food -here it is first rate. Tonight I started with a shrimp cocktail- 5 HUGE shrimp. Then had the crabcake- it is the best crabcake in town. All crab, no filler, and the remoulade sauce is incredible. we then had the Tuscan salad, LOADED with tons of wonderful things like red peppers, hearts of palm, artichoke hearts, freah mozzarella, and many more. Then it was on to the steak- I had the 16oz NY Strip- seasoned perfectly. And this is very important- in the dozens of times I have been here, the steak is ALWAYS cooked exactly as ordered- (not to rip on Gibsons, but I'd say that almost every time I've been there, I've had to send my steak back because it has been eother WAY undercooked or overcooked). The strip steak had incredible flavor, and not an ounce of chewiness- truly a perfect steak. The entrees came with some wonderful homemade pasta with marinara sauce. My friend had the lamb chops- 3 huge chops that were wonderful. Service is top notch- you will NEVER wait for your water glass to be filled, and both the waiters and bus staff were always looking to get you anything that you might need. I have read some reviews that mention the high prices- I have to disagree. While this is a top level steak house and is priced as so, you can go to Primehouse and have a lousy steak and awful sides and pay twice as much. In a city overrun by chain restaurants, imports from other cities, and annoying trendy places that make you feel as though you are fortunate that they let you in, Harry Caray's is truly a gem- the kind of place that should be around for 100 years.

We held our rehearsal dinner here in October for about 100 people. My husband's family handled the details [they did stations and trays - it was meant to be a light dinner because we were serving a big meal for the wedding -and we also had an open bar]. The cost was very reasonable and the service was fantastic. Everyone had a great time and loved the food. In addition, we had a lot of out of town guests and they loved being at Harry Caray's restaurant and seeing all the cool memorabilia. It was a great start to the weekend!

Harry Cary's... A Chicago staple that will never die. It is somewhat of a tourist trap with mediocre food. Can't complain to much though and it should be loved for what it is. enough said.

Soggy potato chips... 3 times! I do not know what the heck is going on there, but it was REALLY disgusting. 3 times bowls of wet, soggy potato chips were delivered to our table. And then the waitress also messed up our order after acting completely disinterested. The only reason I give it 2 stars is the very cool baseball memorabilia. For a fan this was great. As a bar, it sucks

Now I was here on St. Patrick's Day, so I cannot tell you what this bar is "normally" like. However, I did have a great time with my friends that day. I was upstairs, the place was packed, they had on the basketball games, there was a band, and an extra-large beer tub. They were constantly making corn-beef "sammiches" and everybody was in a great mood. Though the area that we were in was dark, the bathroom lines were long and the canned beer was $4.75 a piece, I would recommend this place on this holiday. We got there before the parade ended though so we just walked right in, but about an hour later we heard that the line was about 100 people long and took about 2-3 (two, tree) hours. All in all, its really about the company that you keep and this place was just an added bonus. Cheers, mate.

I had the 8oz peppercorn crusted wagyu burger for lunch. I was salivating as I read the menu, brandy and gorgonzola on a pretzel roll, mmmmmm. Unfortunately the burger was totally bland except for a few hints of peppercorn here and there. Also the crust of the burger overwhelmed the medium-rare flavor/texture of the meat making it seem more well done. The atmosphere is what it is, a tourist attraction so I'm not going to knock it for that but I was really excited for a great wagyu burger for lunch no less and Harry let me down.

A good place to take sports fans from out of town, but I would never go here otherwise. It's kinda expensive and the staff isn't always the nicest. The food is decent though, and there's definitely nothing else like it.

This place will always have sentimental value for me because my brother visited me for one night only and we went there... the goat cheese stuffed chicken is super good and the decor is awesome! its all sports memorabilia and so fun to look at while you eat!

I was at Harry Caray's Italian Steakhouse last night for dinner. I booked a table earlier in the day easily on Open Table via the restaurant's facebook group, which was really easy. When I showed up to the restaurant our table was immediately sat, and we continued to have great service all night. I enjoyed my favorite Pork Chops from Harry Carays, which are always delicious. I cannot wait to go back! It is always a treat to eat at Harrys! GO CUBS!

I've been here for a few times for dinner and I just went to lunch here today. Every time I go the service is great and the food is fantastic. I've gone with friends before and it's been a wonderful time and today we went for a business lunch and it was still just as lovely. It works for a great night out or a business meeting, plus the food is amazing.

I had the Porterhouse. Well cooked. Server was excellent. Couldn't ask for better sports nostalgia and good food to top it off. lil pricey but you are downtown. overall .. I'd go back to try other menu selections.

Stopped in for lunch today and the food was good, but nothing spectacular. I tried the chicken vesuvio sandwich on tomato and herb bread with a side of pasta salad. Portions were large (as expected), the service was good, but our lunch bill was $55 for three people. A bit overpriced for lunch. I wouldn't go out of my way to come back here, but work foot the bill this time so I can't complain :)

While the in-laws were in town, we went here on a Saturday night during dinner and did not have to wait an astronomical amount of time to be seating for a party of 9 (probably around 40 minutes). The waiter and assistants were on top of it and helpful. I split a huge prime rib with my husband along with their homemade fettucini alfredo. FYI: sides are a la carte. Steak was wonderful and it came with horseradish sauce on the side. The fettucini alfredo was delicious but I knew I was going to have to do some extra walking the next few days. Bread and butter come before the meals and if its someone's birthday at the table let the waiter know and he/she will bring out a complementary slice of homemade key lime pie....mmmmm good! The place was packed and to waste time before being seating you can walk around and see pictures of famous/semi-famous people who have visited in the past along the walls.

Harry Caray's is a little touristy for my taste, but their food is good so I have no problem eating there. I eat meat occasionally, but they bring the meat to your table so you can actually pick out what you want. It's so gross looking that I have to stick with ordering a salad when I go there.

There are many steakhouses in Chicago that are far better than Harry Caray's and this is a bit touristy for my taste; however, it definitely has that Chicago sports appeal that people love. The last time I was here I had a salad instead of my usual steak and it was a very good salad.

Had a very good lunch here today. I tried the chicken vesitvo and it was great. I had the sweet potato fries with my sandwich, but my friend had the big steak fries which looked better. Really cool sports stuff on the walls at Harry Caray's! I'll be going back here soon...

This was just OK for me. The service wasn't all that friendly and the tables seemed like they were on top of one another. It was kind of refreshing to have a steakhouse that wasn't overly formal or hoity-toity. The dishes at our table were pretty ordinary in terms of creativity and preparation but everyone at our table thought their dinner tasted good (I had the pork chops). Although I kind of expect that from a nice steakhouse. The menu seemed to be fully priced but not ridiculous.

The decor is fun for any sports nut and the food is great for the rest of us. The chicken and the steak are delicious. I had the chicken vesuvio the last time I was there and let's just say...I need to go back soon.

A Chicago Classic. The decor is Cubs heaven, and the food is pretty darn good. The Dutchie's Salad is my favorite with pears, walnuts, cranberries and chicken, and they have great burgers as well. The food is a little pricier than I expected since the salad runs around $14, but it's the atmosphere and environment that keep people coming back.

First time there, and I'm hooked. Went for cocktails early in the afternoon, and our bartender (appropriately dressed in a Konreko jersey) was impressed with our quick talk and big appetites. Didn't have an opportunity to dine, but from what I saw, it looks like a delicious heart attack waiting to happen.

I just had a great lunch at Harry Caray's with my co-workers. We had some people in from California and wanted to take them out for an authentic Chicago meal. Harry Caray's was a big hit...everyone enjoyed their sandwiches and salads.

Harry's is a fun place to take a visiting friend, especially if your visiting friend is a baseball fan. There is lots of memorabelia on the walls, and the food is very good, if a bit expensive. There are several yummy apetizers to choose from if you are just having drinks. I recommend the calamari!

Harry Caray's is one of those places that makes Chicago.. well, Chicago. Harry Caray was one unique individual whom shall certainly not soon be forgotten, and nor should his restaurant. It's the fanciest Sports bar and restaurant that you'll see just about, and the food is more like that of a top rate restaurant than a every day garden variety sports place. Of course the place is certainly not cheap, but when you go out to eat good, it's rarely cheap, right? I think I recall having a joke telling washroom attendant the last time I was there.

this place is very touristy, and in my opinion, not worth the price. i ordered the chicken parm, and was quite surprised to have a plate of two chicken breasts set down in front of me. doesn't chicken parm usually come with one chicken breast and pasta? its probably my favorite dish and ive never see it without pasta. i must say though that it was very good chicken- very tender and juicy. my friend ordered a caesar salad with chicken added, and it came out to $17. they charged her $10 for a couple pieces of chicken! overall, i probably wont go back, although now i can say i have been there.

Eh, this place is alright. I was expecting to be blown away because I have tried to go here at night before and there was a two hour wait, so I passed. So I went here for lunch and the place was practically stranded, you could see budles of hay rolling but no complaints because we were seated promptly. Our waiter was a Grade A top choice jackass. Every request you had he had a clever sarcastic quip to comeback at you with. So you are paying $15 for a sandwich and a sarcastic remark for asking for a refill of water, that sounds like a deal. The food, was okay, nothing great about it, but did notice that my drink was empty on more than one occasion and took forever to be filled. Even when there are about 3-4 suwaiters or whatever they are called, standing right next to your table! If it were busy fine, no one in sight, not fine but understandable but when they are standing right next to you at an uncrowded restaurant, chin-wagging with each other... not a fan. I think the experience was good, could have been a lot better and definitely not worth the price. So until next time Harry and/or Caray.

This place makes me feel clastorphobic just thinking about it. Last time I went there, our service was TERRIBLE. It took us 2 hours of waving down our waitress to get anything. Place is small and always crowded.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
