Fantastic atmosphere, the only thing that beat the service was the pizza. Sweet and tangy sauce mixed with ham, sausage and cheese made me forget about the heart attack I'm sure to have after this meal. Worth the money and will be sure to return during my next visit to Chicago!

Just had a mason jar caprese salad for the first time. It was great. This location seems more family oriented but the service is great. Pizza is the best.

Q11For plain old pizza- it's amazing. Compared to Lou malnati's- it's trash. Not for the conoussiour anymore...

There isn't much I can say about Gino's that hasn't already been said. For fans of Chicago-style pizza, this is as good as it gets. I have made the 7 hour drive from Minneapolis to the Chicago area just for this pizza. Luckily, they have frozen pizza in local grocery stores these days, but nothing beats a fresh pie straight from the Gino's East oven. I have never tasted anything bad there, but I highly recommened loading it up with as many toppings as possible, grabbing a sturdy fork, and planning a place to take a nap afterwards.

My bff and I were dying for some good pizza. Happen to find this place using yelp and we were surprised at how good it was. Worth the wait. Go hungry... or not, if you like massive left overs.

  • Tony S.

Very disappointing, slow in attentive service, sweet as candy sauce, that you have to load with chili peppers just to get some flavor. Sausage patti is tasteless and rubbery, and what's the deal with them not slicing the pizza

A friend of mine had a large party here a few weeks ago. There were probably 50 people there and the spread was pretty good. Plenty of appetizers, salads and pizzas. Although I cannot comment on the price or the process of organizing such a thing, everything went off perfectly to my eyes anyway. All the waiters and waitresses were very helpful and friendly and I had zero complaints except for one.... I didn't really like the pizza. While they were chock-full of great stuff; the flavor was pretty bland. Just tasted like a ton of sauce and mozzarella....blah. The crust was also not very good at all. It was very flaky and dry...like apple pie or something.

  • Rachel S.

DO NOT order the bruschetta! Its basically garlic bread with tomato and onion on it and wayyyy too much garlic. The pizza is nothing great either. The only reason why I gave 3 stars is because the staff was very friendly and seem to care about their job unlike the manager. The manager was a total tool! Very unprofessional n didn't seem to care about his job at all. I wouldn't go to Gino's East again.

  • Loma K.

Ate here for the first time. Had the Caesar salad and deep dish pizza. The food was great, the crust was crispy and buttery. Delicious! I give it a 4 star only because it took a bit long getting the pizza out. Over 45 mins.

I have to say, I have only eaten Gino's East from the freezer section in the past. Eat at the restaurant! You wont regret it at all!! I made a comment that it tasted how pizza hut did WAY back in the 90s when we were kids and the table agreed. Only reason why they didn't get 5 stars was because some of the soda selections are can/bottle only and not free refill AND because we swear that our waitress had a free too many drinks during her shift. She seemed very off and never introduced herself. BUT the deep dish pizza we ordered was good and our appetizers were nice and hot! If you have 4 people a large pizza will be satisfying, if you are like me though insist on 2 different ones because you will want more than 2 slices!

This was my first time in Chicago so I tried a few different pizza spots. This might have been my favorite. I agree with the other review that the spinach tastes like it came from a can and fresh spinach would be a major improvement. Otherwise delicious. I love the cornmeal crust.

I work in the building where Ginos is housed. Thought, that's wonderful cuz I was a fan of their pizza, but this location is not very good. The staff is not very friendly and the food ..let's say certainly can be improved. Sorry, but even with a captive audience, I'd go down the street to D'Augustinos..or drive to Lou Malnettis for THE BEST pan pizza.

  • Brian D.

This place was absurdly overrated. I was told by many many people that I needed to come here to get authentic Chicago pizza, and man was it mediocre. The service was pretty awful too. However, they do get 3 stars from me simply because you're allowed to write on the walls, and that's worth a huge bump.

    (3)
  • Kari R.

They have the worlds best deep dish pizza here! If you're in to graffiti bring a sharpie and find a spot on the wall. Real down to earth atmosphere but a little hole in the wall find. It's bomb here!

    (5)
  • J. G.

Yech. Tacky, touristy, crappy pizza and a equally crappy chianti. Cornmeal crust that wouldn't pass south of the Macon Dixon Line. Oh, and you get to write your name on the wall. Oh Joy! Chicago does better.

    (1)
  • John R.

I love deep dish pizza but this is the worst I have ever had. What you end up with is a mouthful of corn meal. The sauce is decent but that's about it. I thought it might be interesting to try because they make it backwards (cheese on bottom, sauce on top) but this idea is good only in theory. The crust has so much cornmeal it is florescent yellow colored. This is just not good pizza. At all.

The best pizza in all of Chicago! I try to get out to Rosemont to go to Gino's whenever I can. I went to Gino's before they moved into their newer location which is show on the map at the right. The only thing I miss about the old Gino's is the small arcade they used to have which may/may not be in the newer Gino's. Some great appetizers on the menu include the mozerella sticks, garlic bread sticks, and the chicken wings (hot). As a meal I normally get a 14" thincrust pepperoni and sausage pizza and split it with whoever I go with. Their pizza is great and should definately be tried out if you're in the Chicagoland area. Although the deep dish pizza is more of a Chicagoland custom it is an aquired taste and some people from out of Chicagoland may not prefer the taste over regular thincrust pizza.

This Gino's (at its former location in Rosemont) was the site of my first date with my future wife back in 1995. We have returned every year on the anniversary of our first date and our wedding anniversary as well. We now come with our kids too. The place doesn't let you write on the walls as the old place did, but we're not coming to vandalize the place. We love the deep dish pizza. To avoid incidents with the kids getting out of hand, we reserve a table before peak dinner hours, order a deep dish on the phone and arrive so that our pizza is ready in 10-15 minutes rather than the usual 45 for deep dish. Saves a lot of aggravation later and everyone sees how good the 2 boys can behave. I also love their soft garlic breadsticks, especially when dipped in ranch dressing. The staff is friendly and the long-timers recognize us for coming over the years. Besides Papa Chris, this is also "Our Place" as a couple.

I ate so much pizza I couldn't breathe. Chicago deep dish delivers. The slices were loaded with sauce, thick, and loads of dripping cheese. My mouth is watering just thinking about it right now.

its fun to go to this place the vibe is great its kind of a bummer it takes one hour to make a 6 slice deep dish but it was good i would go back its a nice tourist attraction no doubt about it and i love the graffiti all over the walls very memorable

Solid deep dish pizza in a loud, hectic setting. Plan to wait 45 minutes for the pizza (unless you order ahead on weekdays).

If you like Gino's, you will love Little Star Pizza in San Francisco. Unfortunately for Chicago PIzza, the deep dish in other cities is just getting better. I think even Zachary's in Oakland is superior to Ginos. Gino's is fine, but the crust is absolutely tasteless.

Good Food.. Bad Service.. We had our rehearsal there and made reservations about 2 weeks in advance since we were going to have a large group. Put the $150 down at the time of the call. Then we get a call about 3 days before from the manager who was freaking out because he thought we never put down a deposit. When we arrived we put our order in and the food came fairly quickly, but they never came back to check on us. My husband had to go get them to bring more drinks for people and to order more appetizers because it wasn't enough for our group. And they charged us for 30 people when we only had about 26. They did give us pastries since they ran out of the cookies, so that was nice of them, but we had to bargain for it with them. Overall, the food was great, but the service was not.

I'm more of a Lou Malnati's fan for deep dish. I tried the bruschetta here since I knew I didn't like their pizza and it was just ok. Even Lou's bruschetta is better than Gino's! There's plenty of parking and it's close to the highway so it's pretty convenient to get to.

  • Russell M.

I'm full!! Three dudes ordered two medium pizzas and we were only able to finish one. Poor showing, I know. but it was so freaking cheesy! like the cheese was neverending when you took a bite or tried to break a piece off. but GOOOOOOD. Super veggie and pepperoni pizzas. The Meaty Legend pizza sounded dirty to me.

  • Timothy M.

Ah, the good ol' days when my office was in the same building as this Gino's. We used to sit here and smoke cigs while watching the Cubbies play and listening to some Johnny Cash on the jukebox during break. The pizza is as good as you'll find at any most Chicago joints. The thin-crust is a little to greasy and the stuffed and deep dish are just a little to saucy. I like Connie's better (and probably Giordano's too), but Gino's is definitely one of the good Chi-town pizza spots.

  • Eric S.

I was very disappointed. Saw Gino's on the Travel Channel. Traveled all the way from Yuma AZ, and didn't really even enjoy it. Maybe because it is a different type of pizza than I am used to, but for the most part..... the Pizza wasn't all that good. The Cornbread crust was bland, and the sauce wasn't great. I liked the size, and the style, but the taste just wasn't there. Ordered the meaty legend, and wings. Wings were good. Legend, not so legendary.... Total party of five, and everyone was feeling the same way. Not worth being on tv over.

    (2)
  • Jason S.

Totally overrated. Got a calamari appetizer, it was both greasy AND felt like it had been sitting out for a while before we ordered it. The salads were just the out-of-a-bag potpourri of iceberg lettuce and carrot shreds. When the pizza came, the cheese was nothing to write home about and the crust was crumbly and tasted like cornbread. the toppings were great, but everything else was meh.

Just flew in to Chicago to visit grandparents-in-law with my wife and two young kids. I was VERY much in the mood for deep dish; can't really get it in Seattle. Went to Gino's 'cause it was close to our hotel for an early dinner. Had a great time, and the pizza (deep-dish meaty special) was JUST what I wanted!

Walked in was empty . Hostess was snippy with an attitude. . Waited forever to eat we ordered ahead and she didn't submit order. Slow in attentive service food was really salty and the service was awful.

Sorry Ginos, but your deep dish is officially off my go to list from now on. What was that?! Canned spinach?!

A great place to grab a bite with family and friends. My family has been going to Gino's East since I was little and I can't say I've ever had a bad experience! We've held numerous parties at this location and their old location further down Higgins. The staff is very accommodating. Parking is fairly easy to find - they have a whole lot! It's also never so busy that you have to wait a long while unless you go later in the evening on a Saturday or when there is a sporting event nearby (Wolves game, for example). In the summer, they have outdoor seating available, and you can play cornhole. They have a nice selection of beer, including craft. As for the pizza, I'm not a huge deep dish girl, but their thin crust is really good. I like their garlic and spinach thin crust the best. Their garlic sticks are to die for - they'll literally melt in your mouth... And definitely get the antipasto salad!

Before I begin this review, I have to explain that I went to Gino's on a weekend getaway a while ago and I am unsure about which location I went to while I was in Chicago. So anyways..... I had been dying to try some real Chicago-style pizza forever. I live in Los Angeles and the closest I have had to Chicago style pizza is Numero Uno. *Hang head in shame* So my Purdue Friends and I went to a Gino's location and had a pizza that was half supreme and half cheese deep dish style and calamari. The calamari was great and accompanied with hot marinara sauce; I love a good plate of calamari *drool* The pizza was an experience. The crust was sweet and kinda tasted like it had a corn bread based crust. The pizza was so thick and it had the toppings on the bottom, cheese in the middle, more toppings and then sauce. You literally had to use a knife and folk to partake in the deliciousness of this pizza. I really liked the pizza and I am now a fan of Chicago-style pizza. No tips or hints about this place, just enjoy :-)

Came to Gino's East twice during my visit to Chicago. Gino's East is located behind the Chicago O'Hare Marriott Hotel. The first time was for an evening reception for a conference being held at the Marriott Hotel next door. Several different finger foods - but mostly wings. The wings were okay, the skin on them was a tad undercooked for my taste - I prefer the skin to be on the crispy side - not soft. The second time I came over for lunch. I ordered a Honker's Ale (brewed at local Chicago brewery Goose Island), a bowl of French Onion Soup, and the Italian Sausage Sub with provolone cheese and marinara sauce. The Honker's Ale is a coppery colored, hoppy, delicious Ale. Loved it! The French Onion soup was good - nothing to write home about. The Italian Sausage Sub - the meat was good - I may have made a mistake in adding the marinara sauce and the side of hot peppers to the sandwich - as it made the whole thing overly drippy and wet. I ended up eating all of the sausage and left most of the sub roll lit was served in. Service was decent - it was mid-Afternoon - I had opted to sit at the bar - but there was no bartender - so I had to go find someone to let them know I was there to eat lunch.

We had the spinach cheese sticks (fantastic!) and thin crust supreme pizza. While the cheese sticks were great, the pizza tasted like frozen pizza. We were totally unimpressed. Maybe the deep dish is better but the bell peppers really tasted like they had been frozen. Overall, I'm unimpressed. Sad because I'm only in town a few days and only have so many opportunities for pizza!

We decided to try thin crust at Gino's East. Not the worst pizza I've had but definitely the saltiest. So much so you couldn't taste any flavor but salt. We've had their deep dish before and it was good. Maybe sticking to that is the key. In the meantime, we will try elsewhere.

This review is for delivery. My husband grew up in Chicago and wanted his Gino's. Well, the whole town is shout down due to the Stanley Cup and a Cubs game AND rain with tornado warnings. He couldn't get near the city. Since he was only there for one night, he had Gino's deliver a small sausage pie with added green peppers to his hotel. They were 30 minutes earlier than they said they'd be and it is just as he remembered. Good job Gino's.

I'm not a big fan of Chi-town style pizza, but this was very representative of the genre. Loved the sausage - it was nice and spicy. Sauce a bit sweet for me, but tons of cheese. The pies are huge - family of 4 including 2 bottomless pit teens had a small deep dish with an appetizer and took home leftovers.

Service was just about average...if you ask me our waitress was in a bad mood. Patio area was fantastic! Ordered a deep and a thin. Thin came back not what we ordered and it was remade pretty quickly. Deep dish was delicious!!! Haven't been to ginos in years and I'd come back for that. Thin crust is nothing worth writing home about. Ive had bettet store bought pizzas...just not what I was expecting. Good price on the house wines.

The pizza was very good and lived up to the hype but my favorite part of the meal was the meatballs and garlic bread to start. Some of the best meatballs I've ever had. This meal was definitely worth the diarrhea.

Probably the worst pizzeria in Chicago! I've tried goirdanos, Lou and Gino. By far Gino is the worst, pizza was tasteless, we didn't eat any of it and ended up leaving the place. We place order for beer and it took them 25mins to serve so insane and our serve was pathetic didn't know anything on the menu couldn't answer any of our questions. I typically don't give bad reviews but we. Had tried the Lou manatis and giordano, Gino's was the worst out the three. Should be even be in the conversation for top deep dish in Chi town. Will never visit this place again

Not to bad of a place. I think I still prefer Lou Malnati's Pizzeria for a better flaky crust

Good food and the staff is very friendly. Beats the hotel bar by a mile. Prices are a bit high for beer 4 dollars a bottle is a bit steep for what it is. but again the bar staff more then makes up for. check it out I think you will at least like it enough to come back.

I have eaten this Pizza for more then 30 years. It is still good. Better make that great. The crust is made with cornmeal which makes it unique. The patty sausage is wonderful. Every topping was very fresh. We had very pleasant service during the lunch rush.

Friendly service and the awesome Chicago-style pizza I adore. Had a meeting near this Gino's location last week and stopped by with the parents for an early dinner - mainly to avoid rush hour traffic back to the western suburbs. I had a small deep dish with cheese, sausage and pepperoni and it was great. I left kicking myself for eating so much at lunch. But on the plus side, delicious leftovers. The parents got a large supreme thin crust and were very happy with that as well. Would for sure head back - Gino's is perfect for when this Denver girl needs a Chicago fix.

When I learned of this mysterious third party in the Chicago deep dish wars, I had to stop by the next time I was in town! We flew in to O'Hare and drove out, so there was no time to sit down. Instead, we called in a pie when we landed and 45 minutes later, I was wolfing down a slice in our rental car. We got the 12" supreme with sausage, mixed in rather than layered. The sausage was hearty and full of flavour - would definitely recommend! This is not a deep dish heavy on cheese, and there's a lot of sauce/acid. The crust is pretty crispy, closer to pretzel than dough. The service I did get was helpful and courteous. My rating is unfortunately skewed by my bias - at the end of the day, I'm a Lou's girl. You want sauce and crunch in your crust? That's New York pizza to me. However, Gino's satisfied my deep dish craving. Until next time, Chicago!

You can't visit Chi town and not make a stop at one of their famous pizza joints, especially one that makes the traditional deep dish pie. Gino's East fits that bill just right. The atmosphere is relaxed. Our waiter was a bit edgy, but nice enough. The price was a bit on the high side, even for the city ($28 for a large deep dish), but it won't break you. Parking was adequate. And, the location is convenient. A large deep dish pizza will feed six to eight adults. I particularly liked their selection of craft beers (you gotta try the 312 on draft). After a couple of mozzarella sticks, one deep dish slice, and a point of 312 I had no room for dessert. So, I can't comment on that part of the menu. All in all, a nice place to enjoy a hearty meal and a good drink. I do wish the prices were a little more budget friendly. But, it's worth the occasional trip, especially if you bring a group and split the bill.

We wanted to try a traditional deep dish pizza and after reading reviews decided to give this place a try. Dint want to go to downtown location just to save on the wait time and crowd. But half hour after opening time we went it and there were already 20 people seated. People wait in line to get in or what?? Anyways we ordered spinach sticks and they were pretty good but this is not we had come here for. The real deal was the deep dish. And oh boy I bet it was. The crust was crisp and made of corn bread, good full layer of cheese and meat topped with veggies. I think the time taken to get the crisp crust is worth it. Super heavy to eat. A small could easily fill 2 male adults with large appetite. So you can judge for yourselves! A must visit and this location is pretty good too. Not sure though how different the experience would have been if it was in the downtown location. I will visit again and bring my friends too.

Pizza was just fine. My complaint though-- please clean your high chairs. The sides of them were caked with day's or weeks worth of nastiness.

Walked in and was escorted to the bar area with green tables and wooden chairs reminded my of my uncles bar in the basement. I waited and the bartender appeared from behind the bar chipper as can be with her delightful Eastern European accent. I ordered the 5 rabbit beer and a coke I made a good choice as the beer was so bitter I needed a coke chaser... Note to self don't order beer names after a rabbit. So I ordered cheese sticks and a small sausage patty pizza since this place is known for its sausage patty pizza I thought I couldn't go wrong although the the 45 min wait does make you question yourself lol. Cheese sticks came out half way through my beer tastes like crispy crunchy cheesy for the first 4 then they get cold and it's like bam shoulda ate me already. After I finished a beer and 4 cokes the sausage smell hit my nose as it got closer and closer and closer and I was so excited. The warm cheese, the sweetness of the sauce the saltiness of the pepperoni and a little bit of spice of the sausage kicking in. I must say I remember the sausage patty use to be on the bottom now it's above the cheese and it tastes different but everything else was great. I would recommend ordering ahead for the stuffed pizza and trying Gino's east.

Conveniently close to hotels near east side of O'Hare. Walked over from Renaissance. Sat outside and watched planes coming in on final approach. Great pizza. Taking one back to Colorado for dinner tomorrow.

Gino's is tremendously convenient for an extended layover at O'hare. I've come here multiple times for my friends to get a taste of the deep dish (which I order in advance since we're always on a time limit). I would definitely prefer other places for taste of the crust, but the sauce isn't that bad.

Let me start by saying that I'm not going to compare Gino's East pizza to Lou Malnati's or Giordano's or get into a debate about deep-dish versus stuffed versus NY-style. Naaaaaa, I was in Chicago to speak at a conference, and saw that Gino's was in walking distance of my hotel. It was lunch-time, I was hungry, and that's how we ended up at Gino's East on Higgins. We knew that it would be a good idea to phone in our order ahead of time, which let us sit at the bar at the Chicago Marriott O'Hare, study the menu, and finish our drinks before walking over to Gino's. The Marriott concierge was super helpful and brought us a menu, and even phoned in our order so there wouldn't be any issues when we arrived. We agreed on a medium-sized 4-cheese deep dish pizza, and the restaurant told us it would be about 30 minutes or so to bake. By the time we got there, got seated, and ordered our drinks, the pizza was delivered to the table. We had one guy from Tampa, FL (me), one guy from Philadelphia, one guy from Dallas, and one guy from Portland, OR, so none of us were locals nor were we going to get into the middle of the war of the world's greatest pizza. The waitress plunked down this circular blackened-pan filled with something that looked like a cross between pizza and lasagna. She cut and served slices for each of us, and said she'd be back to re-fill drinks and cut our second slices of pie. Lordy, this thing was delicious and extremely filling. We were laughing about making an episode of Man vs. Food as we used our knives and forks to devour the pizza. The experience was unique and fun, and we were quite full by the time we left. Thankfully I didn't dribble sauce down the front of my shirt as I was scheduled to be speaking at the conference right after lunch! Gino's was a nice change from the style of pizza that I can find in Tampa, and so I was very happy with the experience.

I'm giving this place 4 stars in comparison to its other locations, the pizza is legendary no matter who you ask. I grew up loving Edwardos pizza (same company as Gino's) and I eventually worked there! Learned how to make the deep dish and other offerings, it's an awesome company with lots of Chicago history and roots. That being said, the pizza is not what it once was. Quality in ingredients has been downgraded but not terribly. Today I ordered (preordered actually) a medium deep dish with my favorite ingredient (spinach) and my Gf's fav topping (pepperoni), we ordered garlic cheesy bread for an app. The app: the garlic cheesy was amazing it kicked off the experience very well it was perfect (would've liked marinara sauce which does not come with it) The deep dish: it was hot and it was fresh out of oven. The crust was delish as always (reminds me of a corn biscuit) the pepperoni was also tasty as always BUT the spinach used is without a doubt not he same as before. Before it was distinctly fresher and now it definitely tastes like it might be canned spinach, it's very stringy and just bring down the overall taste of the pizza, I still enjoyed it however Good news!! This place has some craft beer choices which is a big plus for me (they had Anti-Hero IPA yummm) As far as service goes this place gets a perfect score, nothing above and beyond but just excellent friendly efficient service, our server was a young lady who was polite and attentive All in all, I would definitely come back! I just will no longer be getting the spinach pizza

There is a sign at Gino's East that reads something like this: "If you find a better tasting pizza and if we agree, we will reimburse you for your pizza." While there's a lot to be filled in with that challenge (What if the pizza is in Timbuktu? And, will you reimburse my airfare? No?) the sign is a little gutsy. Perhaps even more gusty is this tasty pie. Mind you, the idea of cornmeal crust didn't thrill me initially, but one taste of one slice was all I needed to convince me that Gino's East is a good pie. What thrills me best of all are the lunch specials...Whoo-we, Ms. Jones! Deals like these are hard to find! Imagine getting a deep-dish, individual pizza for only five bucks! Five clams! What a bargain! Heck, I even had left overs! Whenever I"m in the Windy City, I'll be sure to stop by here!

I did not enjoy the veggie pizza- none of the veggies tasted GOOD. The crust was deep dish and just too plain...the entire pizza was tasteless.

I've been here for lunch and for dinner, and their pizza is just great. Whether it's a quick mini thin crust at lunch or a deep dish for dinner, this is one of my favorite places for pizza. The toppings are plentiful and the pizzas are cooked just right. And of course, there's a ton of sauce. Allow enough time if you want a deep dish (even a small, personal one takes at least 25 minutes), but it is worth it. I especially like the lunch specials - salads and pizzas - that they make and serve quickly so you can get back before your lunch hour is up. I haven't tried many of the appetizers, but we did have the tasted ravioli and it was quite good. The cheese in the ravioli was very melted and had great flavor. I also really like their minestrone soup. I was impressed with the beer list, which is full of Chicago-made beer: Revolution, Goose Island, Five Rabbit, etc. All on draft. The place does get busy. I went for dinner around 7:30 on a Friday night and there was a 15 minute wait if we wanted to be seated in the main part of the restaurant. We didn't care, so we were sat immediately in the bar area. The one negative - parking is weird. There are spots in the parking lot attached to Gino's, but once that's full, you have to go for the visitor parking that is part of the office building. I assume you can park there, and I have, but it's not clear.

Good place. Quaint. Good service and gives a pitcher of soda. Pizza was ok. Portions are big so if your only one get the personal pizza.

Good pizza! I haven't had sit down service but take out is pretty good. Its not far from the office and I probably could walk right over. I will order in and write another review later. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because I have tasted better pizza. Update: The wait for someone to come and greet you should be evaluated. I stood there for 5 minutes until I said Hello and someone came to the front. For this i had to remove a star.

I visited Gino's East on a Monday lunch while in business in the Chicago area, because I wanted deep dish pizza and because Zagat gave it a rating of 22 on my Google search. This is your typical mom and pop pizza Joint when it comes to decor. It's antiquey with picnic tablesk type feel. There are some cool signs around the room if you look close enough, like "no Naked Swimming". This sign ruined my mid day routine, but I'll make it up in the coming days. The crowd at lunch was typically all business people, and I would suggest the place for lunch. The services was at first what you would expect of a sit down Pizza Joint. It's not stellar, but it's good enough to make you Happy. Our waitress was straight and to the point, no charm or charisma, but this wasn't expected. Being a NYC person, I expect speed, and you do not get this with deep dish pizza, but the waitress explained that it would take about 40 minutes to serve when we ordered. We agreed to the time, and had conversations that pointed out the "No Naked Swimming" sign and assorts. Our drinks arrived promptly after ordering though, and the waitress did keep the drinks filled. She won points on that. When the pizza arrived, It was in a deep pan that the waitress cut in front of us. She served each of use our first piece, and it was immediately not what I expected for a 40 minute wait. I have been to other pizza joints in the Chicago area where I ordered deep dish, and I was expected something a little thicker than what came out. There was not as much cheese as I was hoping for, but it didn't prevent me from munching it down. The pizza was good, not great, but good. NYC pizza is much different, and I have to say that in terms of flavor NYC still wins out on Gino's flavor. Gino's pizza did however make me full after one slice, and it was good enough in flavor that I would come back and wait the 40 minutes if I was in the area. At the end of the lunch our waitress disappeared, so I went up to the hostess station and found her there. I asked to be closed out, and gave her my credit card. I then went to the bathroom, and when i came out, she was at the hostess station with the bill. When I got the bill, it was more than I expected and was not itemized. I was going to be late for a meeting, so I just signed it and went to get my colleagues. One of the colleagues had another bill and was preparing to pay for it. I explained that I just paid it, and realized that she confused me for being from another party. I went back and explained, and she said she voided the charges and I signed a new receipt. I asked for the voided receipt and she explained that there wasn't one. I didn't have time so I left. I would suggest some coaching of the staff on how to pay attention to tables as they get near to the end of their lunch, especially since they seem to cater to business people at that time. I would also suggest some training on how to properly void and document a charge.

Well usually I would go to the more known "giordanos" and get the meaty legendary. But today I decide to try a different location fron my usual. I went to this one and It wae gino east. I had to say the taste is totally different. The pizza is more sloppy but all in totally it wad ok to eat. My boyfriend also agreed with me that this wasn't the best we have been served.

Having come to Chicago over the summer and fallen in love with Giordano's stuffed pizza, I was excited about passing through Chicago because it meant I could finally enjoy delicious pizza again (sorry New York, but your pizza just doesn't cut it). My friend and I decided to check out Gino's East and since we flew into O'Hare, this location was incredibly convenient. When we first pulled in, I was shocked by how empty it was. It was around 1 PM and unlike the downtown locations, there was no wait and only a few tables were taken! Lucky us! We decided to get the Supreme deep dish pizza and after 30 agonizing minutes of hungry anticipation, the pizza arrived! Delicious layers of cheese with peppers, onions, and sausage crumble on top of a cornbread crust. I wasn't a huge fan of the crust, but my friend loved it and it tasted good with the tomato sauce. Ultimately, Giordano's is still the champion in my mind, but I'll have to check out Lou Malnati's next time I'm in town.

The deep dish pizza was good but Im giving them a 2 because the prices were more expensive in the restaurant than what was listed online. False advertisment!

Right around the corner and would not bother going back. This place is so outdated! It reminds me of a pizza joint you would find in my small hick hometown instead of in the city of Chicago. Ambiance was horrible, bathrooms were absolutely horrendous! Many places put paper hand towels in baskets on the sink to be modern and upscale. This place put them there because clearly the dispenser they used to be in has somehow been torn off the wall. Our server was so lackluster it was almost unbelievable. We ordered the family salad... $3.75 per person resulting in a $15 salad that was all white iceburg lettuce, about 4 slices of onion... one for each of us, a few olives, a few cherry tomatoes and a couple croutons. Dressing on the side was pretty decent... but overall this salad was the biggest ripoff ever. Then came our pizza. A cornmeal like crust that was so dry I felt like I needed to order sauce on the side just to make it palatable. Sauce was pretty tasteless, sausage wasn't much better, cheese was also unimpressive. I would not return here and I have seen the Groupon that was out lately... even with a reduced price deal this isn't worth it. There are quite a few other pizza places around here, both big-name and no-name... have tried almost all of them and this one has so far been the worst, both in quality and in value. I guess they get a lot of captive-audience sus

I was so excited to try this place but was kind of let down. We got their legendary deep dish pizza with cheese and sausage. It was good pizza but I guess I was expecting to be blown away. I've had better Chicago style pizza in California. Maybe that's where the disappointment came from? I wouldn't go out of my way to eat a deep dish pizza the next time I'm in Chicago that's for sure. All I can say is that I do prefer Gino's East over Lou Malnati's just because I did enjoy their cornbread crust.

Really dig this place!! I had wings...awesome, mozzarella sticks...awesome, and I finally got a taste if a real deep dish! AWESOME! I had the Chicago Fire small! Couldn't finish it! I had to tap out! Food won this battle lol. Give it a shot! You'll love it! And when you come make sure you ask for Server Alexis! She's the best!!! :-)

2 stars - five star taste pizza, one star management, and another one star for serving cold pizza. I like Gino's deep dish pizza regardless of location. But at this location, they booked three big parties on saturday night, and results were one hour wait, got cold pizza, and no waitress (understaffed). As soon as we got there, we were told the wait time was 45 min and we could preorder deep dish pizza. So we did. After one hour waiting in the hallway and another 20 minutes waiting on a very unstable wobbly table, we were served a cold (just warm) deep dish pizza with dried up crust. A home delivered pizza would be warmer than that! This place was obviously understaffed, not well managed, as our waitress was serving one packed area of 40 seats, and it was again Saturday night. Poor servers!! We came all the way here to have a cold pizza!? Nonsense.

I was kind of disappointed with this restaurant. It's very busy, and since I was travelling alone, I sat at the bar. The beers are very expensive ($8 each), and the service was mediocre. I ordered one of the personal, small Chicago pizzas, and it took over 30 minutes to arrive. While the pizza was good, it wasn't great. I've certainly tasted better in Chicago. Everything was fine, but I'd probably try someplace else next time.

In town visiting family and was lucky enough to be taken here...love love their pizza and even more amazing was the service!!! We had a large party of more than 20 and the staff was on point with food and drinks especially!!! Did not keep us waiting forever for refills.

Got take out of deep dish sausage pizza and BBQ boneless wings. Both orders were good - just as we expected. Lou's is probably my favorite deep dish but Gino's is a VERY close second. It's all about the crust!

There are a few things you have to eat in every city and in Chicago, of course I had to get a pizza and a hot-dog. Gino's was not the best spot to have some delicious deep dish pizza. I got the house salad and the Gino's East Supreme (sausage, onions, peppers, and mushrooms). On every table in the restaurant there was a pile of inedible pieces of crust, it was simply too dry. The pizza was okay, but not nearly as delicious as it looked or I had expected. Afterwards, I asked some locals where to get pizza and they suggested Lou Malnati's Pizzeria. Gino's isn't bad, it's just not worth the hype. Its an obvious tourist spot that just doesn't provide.

While staying in Rosemont on a business trip, my co-workers wanted to try Chicago's famous deep-dish pizza without driving back to downtown. As a result, we went to Gino's East, one of the pizza joints nearest to our hotel, as well as labeled "not that great" by one of my co-workers who stayed behind. The place was mostly empty on a Sunday night and the parties that were seated seemed to mainly consist of out-of-towners. Decor and furnishings seemed pretty old and dingy, which resulted in everything looking dirty. Our group of 8 was quickly seated in a private room with a TV and we started off with wings and Freaky Fries with jalopenos, both of which were decent but forgettable and not that freaky. yelp.com/biz_photos/gino… yelp.com/biz_photos/gino… We ordered two deep dish pizzas to share: a large Meaty Legend and medium Chicago Fire. We asked our server if that was enough for the 8 of us and she said yes as the pizzas are around 3" thick. She lied. They were more like 2" thick and way less impressive than she made it seem. We also waited 40 minutes for our pizzas to arrive... thankfully, we had the appetizers to tie us over. I didn't try the Chicago Fire but the Meaty Legend was just okay and unmemorable; and the cheese was ridiculously thick and strong (see third photo below)... I'm not a fan of deep dish though (I prefer New York-style), so you might want to take my opinion with a grain of salt. However, it did seem like most of my co-workers were underwhelmed or disappointed with Gino's. We ended up taking three leftover slices back to the hotel for our co-worker who had warned us about Gino's. yelp.com/biz_photos/gino… yelp.com/biz_photos/gino… yelp.com/biz_photos/gino… Lesson learned, and I won't be going back to Gino's.

The family's originally from Chicago. So, we'd often go to either Gino's East or Giordano's. It's the older of the two. This one is located near the airport (O'Hare) and tends to be a busy location. They have Italian beef, hotdogs, meatball sammies, salads...and of course, deep-dish pizza. We normally get the Supreme or the Meaty Legend. You can get it small, medium or large. Although their sauce is yummy, their pizzas are smaller and the crust is hard but tends to get soggy. This is a pie you definitely have to eat with a fork and knife. They also have thin-crust pizzas which I prefer but c'mon, you're in Chicago!

My favorite food in Chicago is the deep dish. It holds a firm middle spot in my personal food pyramid right above beer and below healthy options. Gino's is long on crust flavor by using crunchy cornmeal and does not skimp on toppings such as veggies or meat. When you order sausage you get a whole patty as a base. This is an especially pleasing location as there never seems to be any wait. It's connected to a bunch of office buildings where I work. This presents incredible convenience as I can order a pizza early, that can take 45 minutes to make, keep working, then go pick it up and we have a meal for the whole team without any driving or lengthy delivery. To me this is the second best Chicago pizza chain. Nothing can break my love for a Lou Malnatis crust.

We are on our fist visit to Chicago. So what is a required meal? None other than deep dish pizza. We asked for recommendations from the American Girl Staff, a city police officer we met and the hotel staff, every one told us Gino's East. We arrived about 6:45 on a Thursday night and were seated right away. We were put into a booth near the windows nice spot but a little chilly in the middle of winter with two little ones. We asked our server, Alexis if we could move to a different table. She moved us to another table without even batting an eye. We ordered a small deep dish which was amazingly large enough for the two adults and a children's pizza for the kids. The pizza was delicious and our service was incredible. Some people are complaining about the wait, everyone told us and the menu specifically states a deep dish takes about 40 minutes to make! We knew what to expect about our wait going in. Every request was met with a smile and an "of course!" I would recommend Gino's East to anyone visiting the Chicago Area!

I feel bad for having to share this as my thoughts have always been that you could never have bad pizza but our pizza experience last weekend proved me wrong. Our Deep dish Pizza came out burnt with so much tomato sauce there could have been whole grape tomatoes on there. It was so overcooked and crunchy that when you tried to cut the pizza it was like trying to cut a hard chocolate chip cookie in half and it was soooo watery. How in the world do you make pizza watery?? I have no idea but they achieved it. Sorry Gino's... Service was great for being understaffed that night but the pizza... Yikes!

Ate here last week. Tried three different pizzas and three apps. All were good and I thought the pizza was excellent. Brought some home with me to Stl. Service was ok. The bartender was the only working a room of 10 tables and it was crowded. Beer selection was respectable and there were a few TVs around to watch the game. With access to the remotes. I would definitely go back.

Amazing dinner! We're a party of 4 greeted on the patio prior to even opening the door. Great service and and recommended fantastic dishes. Loved the french onion soup, spinach dip and deep dish pizza. Pizza was so rich and full of flavors. They all married well in my mouth! Will be recommending to all my friends traveling to the Chicago area.

If it were possible to give this place a 2 and a half star review, I would. I wasn't fully impressed with this place, especially after trying some deep dish pizza at another restaurant a few days prior. I've never had deep dish pizza until this week. I mainly stick to the west coast and I don't really see my eating style as adventurous. After trying some fantastic deep dish pizza at a different restaurant, I wanted to give Gino's a try since it was close to our hotel. We went in on a Tuesday night and the place was PACKED. The decor was kind of odd, it looked old which made me feel a bit weirded out. This is just the style and culture of the restaurant, but seeing the graffiti literally on every single wall was a bit of a shock. We had to wait about 10 minutes to get a seat. I appreciated how I was able to receive a text when my table was ready. Gotta love this modern technology thing! The waitress seemed a bit preoccupied, didn't really pay much attention to us. Although we're pretty low maintenance, I would have liked a refill on my water at least once. We ordered the spinach sticks (which were delicious) and waited a good 40 minutes for our small deep dish pizza. The sauce was good, much chunkier than expected, but had lots of flavor. The pizza was also very cheesy (we ordered a cheese and sausage pizza), but we weren't happy with the sausage. Price was decent, but we had spent far too long at this place in addition to getting mediocre service. Probably will not come back here as there are other restaurants with better pizza and better service.

I just had my worst & last experience at Gino's on Higgins. I waited 5 minutes to be seated, and it was dead in the restaurant. The hostess was sitting with her feet up in the central dining area and couldn't see the whole counter. Only when I moved to find someone did she see me waiting. I asked to be seated at the bar. My server came quickly and took my order. Iced tea, BLT w/fries. She brought two iced teas right away, as to not be bothered again. 20 minutes later, a cold BLT & soggy fries were delivered and the server promptly disappeared: this time for good. I ate my food because I was starving. No one came to check on me. No asked if everything was OK. Knowing that staff was only casually observing from afar, I pushed my plate into plain sight when I was done. 10 minutes - still no one stopped. Finally, I took my bill to the hostess counter. I knew where to look for her this time. She came right over and ran my tab. Again, no questions about service or satisfaction. I work in the adjacent building and previously ate here all the time. This was the last.

Best pizza in Chicago. Get the deep dish. The sauce is what makes this pizza special. Well that and the pizza! Caesar salad is simple and good. Nice local beer options.

Gino's is fine, but the crust just isn't as good as some of the other Chicago Style pizzas. Sure it's different, but it doesn't have that buttery flaky-crispness to it. It's more soft. Anyways, to each their own.

Apparently I've been working down the street from Gino's East for the last 3 years and failed to know it even existed. Upon finding out I figured I was just living under rock. Not so much...Gino's East is waaaaaaaaaaaay tucked back between corporate offices and not quite visible from the lengthy Higgins Road. I've been to several Gino's East locations and found that this particular one has impressed me the least. Aside from the dim lighting, dingy decor, and grimy floors, service and quality lacked in areas where I noticed it had been in other locations. The menu consists of your standard "pizza and pasta" dishes. I do like the fact that you have the option to order a lunch special which can include either a deep dish or thin crust individual pizza. With a group of 7 very different (and picky) eaters - the individual meals came in handy. Hey, everyone likes options. The food itself was okay. Nothing to rant and rave about, and definitely not good enough to get me to rush back there. It's pizza. And, it's just average pizza. Service was mediocre. It's a total pet peeve of mine to consistently have to ask for my glass of water to be filled. Granted, I drink the equivalent of what a camel carries, but that's beside the point. Leave the pitcher, I'm okay with that. I had also asked for my thin crust pizza to have heavy veg and easy cheese. I think it came out the exact opposite. Otherwise, our server was fairly friendly. Attentive, not so much. Would I eat there again? Eh, maybe if I was odd man out for a lunch outing. Overall Rating: Straight up average.

I have been to Gino's East twice in the past two months and both times were great for my family and I. Immediately after entering the restaurant both times we were greeted by friendly hostess and seated right away even though they were quiet busy as both times were during the weekend. The servers were very friendly as well and were quick to refill our drinks. In my opinion Gino's deep dish pizza is not the best in Chicago but it's also not bad either it is good, but delicious Chicago deep dish pizza would be at Pequods! I like the atmosphere of this restaurant and it has a good bar area and nice outside patio as well. My only disappointment would be that on my second visit to Gino's the TV screens were off and I asked the server if she would be able to turn them on to watch some sports and she said that might upset other guests but she was going to check with her manager. She came back and turned them on and told me that it was okay. I loved how everyone in the restaurant immediately drew their vision towards the TV's. I had never heard of such a thing about not being able to turn on TV's at a restaurant because it would upset other guests... Then why even have the TV screens?

Let's set the record straight: Chicago pizza doesn't compare to New York pizza. In fact, it doesn't even belong in the same conversation. I'm not sure how the rivalry developed - maybe it started with jovial banter over whose buildings are bigger than whose, and after a few beers digressed into a pissing contest over pizzas - but if in fact there ever was a grounds for the comparison, that grounds was lost somewhere between the 1 hour preparation time and canned ingredients of the Chicago interpretation of the dish. More than ever, New York is on top of its pizza game... but let's not go there. Let's keep this directed towards Chicago pizza, which has an entirely unique and hard to comprehend culture surrounding it - First, Chicagoians only eat Chicago pizza about once a year, usually with friends, and most often in a sit-down establishment such as Gino's East. It's an event, a spectacle. Second, the pizza takes what seems like forever to cook. In our case, it took upwards of an hour. Third, the pizza is closer to lasagna or pie or quiche than it is to the traditional definition of the food, which, by the way, has been spelled out in detail by the Italian government and isn't up for interpretation. Chicago's sauce comes on top, and the look , taste and texture of the crust most closely resembles corn bread. It's an interesting beast, a fun one, but it's not fucking pizza. Sorry. In any case, the whole culture shock and ultimate fun of Gino's East and Chicago pizza in general is worth trying out if you're visiting the city or if you live there and it's that one time a year. Otherwise, I'll see you in Brooklyn.

Overall this place suppose to be known for its pizza. To my taste their pizza is average, I tried the deep dish pizza pepperoni supreme. It took 45 minutes to cook. The service was horrible, we had to get our on napkins and the waitress hardly came over to see if we needed anything else. We constantly had to get our own paper towels and utensils, the waitress actually ask when picking up the plates to keep our utensils and reuse for the pizza. I can honestly say I won't be coming back.

I haven't been to Gino's East before, so I thought I'd try it out. I made one mistake here, I didn't get deep dish pizza, which is what Gino's is known for. I got thin crust pizza and thought "What could be so bad at a decent place like this?" Little did I know... 1st: The pizza sauce is more like ketchup 2nd: The cheese tasted a little off, the cheese pizza was close to Orange and it wasn't even well baked. The other pizzas, the supreme, and veggie looked normal. 3rd: the Veggies on the pizza were under-cooked ... Lastly, my biggest grievance was with the beer... yes... the beer. I ordered a 312 pitcher and waited about 10 minutes for it, when I got it it tasted just like a lager... a cheap lager to be precise and had a yellow color, this is not what 312 tastes or looks like, it's supposed to be a wheat beer with a golden color. I talked with my server and she heavily insisted that it was a 312 and that the order was correct. But to be fair, she did offer to take it away and replace it with another beer. To summarize, I got a bad beer and a less than mediocre pizza. Part of that was my fault as I didn't get a deep dish, but the beer mistake was inexcusable.

This place is horrible...front counter was friendly, but: 1) Server failed to honor our request or crayons for our child and no ice in our pop. I had to go to the front counter to get crayons because... 2) server didn't return to check on us until our deep dish pizza arrived...about 30 mins...we never even saw him on the floor. During this time my beer emptied and I almost went to the bar to get a refill. 3) Beer tasted off...usually because they don't clean their lines 4) Sprite tasted like club soda 5) Calamari was tiny and sauce tasted like catsup 6) Server charged for two juices for a kid (1 refill) 7) After delivering food, server didn't check on us again until dinner was done The place was empty, so no excuses for the poor service. Two stars because the pizza was as I remember it...it's been a while since i've been to gino's...now I remember why). I would consider ordering carryout, but with an over the top Giordano's down the road, I see no reason to ever come back.

It was the first time I have had Chicago Deep Dish pizza and I really enjoyed it. I loved the crust and I loved the atmosphere. Service was good and I also liked that there was a patio to sit outside and enjoy the pizza. It was kind of hard to find but once I did I enjoyed it.

How can I come to Chicago and not sample the infamous deep dish? With so many deep dish restaurants to choose from, it was hard to narrow down the options. Ultimately settled on Gino's East due to the rave reviews from friends. Ordered the meat lover's pizza sans Canadian bacon. Loved the fennel sausage, very tasty, combo of crispy and chewy, spices really shined. An absolute heart attack with the mounds of cheese and sauce. Wasn't a huge fan of the crust. I'm not sure what kind of flour they use, almost seems like they incorporate cornmeal into it due its crumbly crunchy texture. I guess I expected a chewier crust but that could just be my New York bias. The restaurant is incredibly tacky and is definitely a tourist trap. Huge cardboard pizzas decorate the outside of the restaurant and they allow patrons to draw on the walls and booths. Ends up looking like a graffiti-ed, unclean mess. Pictures of visiting celebrities and sports memorabilia adorn the walls. I'm okay with eating at questionable looking establishments, especially if the food more than makes up for it. This place? Mediocre pizza and horribly tacky. I wouldn't return here for deep dish, probably go and venture down the road to Lou Malnati's or Pizano's to hopefully get a better representation.

The food was very good and place was very clean. Our waitress did a very good job getting our order and getting drinks to us in a decent amount of time. However, once we received our food we never seen her again until she came to bring our ticket. I was having the Chicago Firehouse pizza and very much could have used a refill sooner. Still would recommend to friends. Good place to eat if visiting the. Chicago O'Hare area.

With the Gino's East location in Rolling Meadows closed (which is sad), I decided to go to this location instead. I had been here once before on a layover in Chicago, which is nice because it is located next to the Cumberland CTA station. As for the pizza, it is typical Gino's East pizza. The layer of sausage is amazing, the sauce is perfect and the crust, like usual, has the cornmeal flavor. Yes, the crust is hard like any Gino's East pizza (which is the reason I can never rate it ahead of the Lou), but the rest of the pizza makes up for it. The only beef I have about this location is the service. I was one of the only people in the restaurant and the service wasn't just slow, but also non-responsive. My drink stayed empty a number of times. Also, I usually order cheesesticks before my meal. The cheesesticks came out late, just a few minutes before the pizza came out. I asked if I could have the cheesesticks taken off the bill because they have come out so close to the mean, but they never did anything. Except for the service, this is a typical Gino's East pizza. I give it four stars only because of the food. Service was easily one-star quality.

I'm from Jersey, which means we like pan pizza. Now, after that I'm all for CALIFORNIA PIZZA KITCHEN- Jamaican Jerk, but I must say Chicago knows how to do pizza even though it's different. Chicago is known for their deep dish pizzas. It comes out in this thick deep iron skillet. They provide you with a knife and fork which I'm not definitely not use to...I mean this is PIZZA, but I'm a go with the flow type of girl. What makes Chicago pizza unique within its own right is the crust. It's cornbread, who knew?!? I will say it's the best deep dish pizza ever, but best pizza? I'll head to New York and CPK for that. I'm all for new experiences and I must say it's delicious.

First time ever having Chicago-style pizza and it was great. Service was awesome, nice chill place, good people and great food. Went to Giordanos first, place was packed, and couldnt even sit at the bar to wait for a table. So tried Gino's and glad I did - what a great dinner. Will be there again for sure if ever in the O'hare area

First. Deep. Dish. Pizza. Ever. It was good. The crust was good, but I'm sure it could have been better. I loved the abundance of cheese. YUM. They let us order half supreme and half meat lovers. The price was very decent and the service was pretty good. I think you have to go to school before you can serve pizza here, but dang, they're professionals! I would definitely come back again... if i wasn't starving. They said it would take 30 minutes for our pizza but it ended up taking a little over 50!

First time here with my gf and honestly, I wasn't really impressed. FIrst of all, it's in a really awkward location, but I can understand why they still make good business there. If you're driving on 90 West towards Schaumburg, it's right underneath a building called Valspar. It's one of the few restaurants in the area surrounded by multiple corporate buildings. I would have never known it was there, until I checked yelp for surrounding Gino's East pizza places. We weren't in the mood to drive into the city, deal with horrible drivers (in comparison to the true Chicagoans who have lived here all of their lives and yet at the first sight of rain or snow, they think the world is coming to an end.. I know some of you know what I'm talking about!!) pay for expensive parking, and having to worry about long waits in long lines. So this is where one of the stars come from. It's in the outskirts of the city towards O'Hare with ample amount of parking and it's FREE. There was no line and were sat in a matter of seconds. And I took local streets to get here. The place itself isn't very exciting. We walked in and the host & hostess weren't very friendly. They said hello, we said for two, they sat us. We sat in the back corner right next to the kitchen and to the spot where the bus boys drop off their dirty plates and all you hear is "clank.. clank.. clank.." Our waiter was in to get our order and out to place our order in the register. He checked back twice, but so boring. The food.. it was ok. My gf and I agreed that the food didn't taste as good as the one in downtown. We agreed that the Freaky Fries with spicy chipotle, jalapenos, pepper jack cheese, and of course, the fries. Awesome! Better than the pizza in my opinion. We had the deep dish sausage patty pizza. That's their staple. There is a sausage piece in every single bite. Honestly, I'd rather go all the way to downtown for this food.. and still deal with the craziness of downtown Chicago.

Their old location in this neighborhood was much better. Stopped here late evening on a Saturday, I think we were served the leftovers. We ordered the deep dish traditional sausage patty pizza. The cheese and sauce were good but overpowered by yeasty crust and rubbery sausage. Two stars because the toasted ravioli appetizer and salad were acceptable. The pizza alone was 1 star.

Deep dish pizza takes 30-40 mins to make! In my foodie world that's a lifetime and it's only pizza! My first deep dish pizza experience and I didn't love it. I liked Giordani's better, the flavors, cheese, crust everything. Someone mentioned the crust was corn bread crust... I didn't know it going into it but I found it was just hard and didn't eat it.

Amused to find this is technically Chicago, as it's basically Rosemont. In the shadow of O'Hare, between hotels and office buildings, this Gino's is tucked back from the road a little, but keep going, you'll find it. We were picking up a friend at the airport, he was famished, so straight off for some deep dish we went. It was early, so we were seated promptly, but it took the wait staff a while to get to us. We ordered toasted ravioli, mozzarella sticks and a large deep dish pepperoni -- standard fare. All were precisely what you expect, piping hot, lots of cheese. Our waiter was pretty good but not great, and we waited a while at times for plates to be cleared, drinks to be refilled, etc. So a star off for that. Otherwise, this is exactly what we were looking for, and we left full and happy.

I was a bit nervous to try this place after reading some of the reviews... or should I say at least this location. The Gino's I have been to downtown are always great! I didn't have time to head downtown as I was in town for business but wanted to grab some real "deep dish" prior to heading back east. The service was fast and attentive so that started it out on the right path. The pizza did not disappoint, the sausage patty was great and the other toppings were fresh as well. The crust was perfect, crispy on the bottom and done to perfection the rest of the way. I was able to satisfy my craving for true deep dish while in Chicago for a couple of days. I did go back and look at a couple of the poor reviews and they were from out west in CA... I'm guessing that maybe "Chicago style" deep dish, if that's what they had, might not be their thing... I know my wife from out east who grew up on thin crust doesn't like it either.

Great buttery cornmeal crust as usual and a great deal for $7! The location has many airplanes flying by and its a bit chaotic getting around here but the lunch was a success.

So I stopped in here with my family this weekend while they were visiting Chicago. We walked from our hotel which entails quite a bit of a trek. We arrived at the restaurant and the energy of the place was awful. The hostess working was so ridiculously stuck up and overall bitchy when it was incredibly calm in the waiting area. I did not catch her name, but she was small and looked like she was twelve with glasses. She just had an attitude and a total lack of positive energy. Within a few minutes she announced very coldly and matter-of-factly that we would not be able to have a table for another hour unless our group wanted to split up into booths. Here's the thing-- I've worked as a hostess before in much nicer restaurants with higher standards than Gino's, and I don't care where you are or where you go but you should always, ya know, have a little bit of heart or at least mildly sympathetic or caring towards patrons, especially if they have to wait a while. I wouldn't have minded the waiting aspect, but this host was so freaking rude it was ridiculous. We left immediately because she just gave off this terrible energy from the moment we walked in. Why would we want to dine at an establishment that puts someone so unwelcoming up in the front? I have no intention of returning to this location and I would advise the management to rethink the awful people working up front, especially this twelve year old looking uppity teenager. My entire family was offended by her actions.

My buddy LOVES THIS PLACE!! He swears by Gino's and finally got me there. I must admit this is a one of a kind pizza place. You can write on the walls (except for the few places it isn't allowed) and it is such an original personality like no other. The pizza is layered in sauce, meat (they make there own "sausage patty") and crust. It's deep dish and just simply melts in your mouth. The waiter was great! Very knowledgeable of the history of the place and details of everything on the menu. He was kind enough to take time to break everything down for me. Nice family spot. The toasted ravioli was good. Overall it was a pleasant experience and I am looking forward to going back.

I have lived in Chicago since I was 3 years old. I consider myself a native Chicagoan. Whenever I crave deep-dish pizza Gino's East is our "Go To" pizza joint. We also love the deep-dish at Lou Malnati's, but Gino's East has the best quality sausage. You can order your deep-dish pizza ahead of time since the deep-dish takes 40-45 minutes. This way, when you arrive at the restaurant you can have your deep-dish right away without the ridiculous 45-minute wait. Who wants to waste time waiting on a deep-dish when you can order ahead of time? We also like their pepperoni pizza very much. It is not greasy and the quality is excellent. I rate the cornmeal crust, sausage and pepperoni deep-dish with 5 stars! The red sauce complements the other ingredients perfectly. Our pizza crust has never been soggy. The cheese that is used is high quality -- oooeeey and gooooeeey -- like it should be. The restaurant is always busy and crowded, especially at lunch time or on a Friday evening. Service is fairly good (I give it 4 stars). The servers are personable and friendly. We never had a bad experience with a Server. During the Summer, the restaurant has a very nice outdoor seating area. However, I don't recommend sitting outdoors because you will inhale the car fumes that are driving by looking for parking or leaving the parking lot. Who wants to ingest car fumes with their pizza -- disgusting. They also serve thin crust pizza. The crust is extra crispy and it doesn't take very long SO if you CANNOT wait 45 minutes for deep dish pizza order a thin crust pizza. I don't recommend their appetizers, but their salads are very fresh with quality ingredients. Also, parking can be a pain in the butt if you go at the height of lunch time, but there is an indoor parking garage (not sure if it is free or not). This Gino's East is also not very far from the Rosemont All-State Arena, the Rosemont Theater, Rosemont Outlet Mall, the Rosemont Ice Skating rink or the Muvico Movie Theatres (less than 10-minutes away). This restaurant is family friendly. They also have "other" things on the menu for kids (like chicken fingers or burgers)(. Gino's East is where the locals eat when they want their Chicago deep-dish fix! If you are looking for a Chicago pizza experience, with very good flavor, quality ingredients, fairly good service, family friendly atmosphere, Gino's East is for you! This is a great place to bring clients to experience Chicago deep-dish pizza or if you are visiting Chicago on business or for pleasure. Also, it is great for groups, friends, and families. Dinner time on a Friday and/or Saturday can be a bit crazy, but well worth the pizza and experience. This is a very casual restaurant. (Note: This restaurant is not visible from the road or street -- it is not easy to spot as it is 500 to 1,000 ft off the road -- it is located in the rear beyond an indoor parking garage. However, there is a sign on Higgins Road with the name "Gino's East". The restaurant is between Cumberland and River Road).

Gino's East is right next to the Mile North hotel where I stayed at, so it was a convenient place to have lunch before I checked out and flew back home. The first thing I noticed is that they let their patrons write their names all over the walls of the restaurant. It's quite amazing. Nothing was untouched; even the brass beer taps were tagged. Too bad I didn't have a pen handy so I could leave my mark in Chicago. I ordered their lunch special, which included a mini deep dish pizza with their signature sausage topping, a small salad plate, and a drink for $7. Excellent deal for a downtown location. It was delicious, and the crust was crispy (I'm very particular about pizza crusts, as I don't like them soggy). For me, the ideal crust is one where I could hold the entire slice only by the outer crust without it sagging. Gino's definitely had this crust. The size of the mini deep dish pizza I got was well portioned, about 6 inches diameter, and I was easily able to finish all of it. My personal trainer put me on a meal plan, so I'm not supposed to have high fat foods anyways. They had at least two local beers on tap, including the "312" Ale, but didn't try it. Maybe next time.

So I'm not a big deep dish pizza fan, and have to admit Uno's frozen deep dish was a lot better than Gino's East and Giordano's.. My friends (4) and I got the medium vegetarian pizza, which ended up being waaay too much for four girls, who also ordered an appetizer. I know its the waiters job to sell whatever and anything they can to the customers, but was still annoyed he lied about how filling the pizza really is. Definitely will not be going back..not just because of the 45 min. wait for the pizza, the crap-tastic filled pizza, but also the crappy service.

Never again... Will I order pizza in Chicago. I am Born and raised in Chicago (not the subs) and have lived the last 45 in New York City (yes, the city) not the boros. Each ()'s means it. I have had to return to Chicago over the pat few months and was excited about taking my daughter for my beloved Chicago thick pie pizza. Oh well, another memory bits the dust. I will have to work a little to get the mojo back with my daughter. The pizza at Gino's was just plain horrible. Crust dry, meat terrible, sauce watery and did I mention the pizza was a disappointment. Chicago where have you gone. I recently took some young coeds for some much heralded New York Pizza to a old school fav John's in the village. They loved it! I can see why they have been eating Chicago Pizza way to long. The only reason I gave it two stars was that the wait staff came though with that good old Midwest kindness. I am about to try a thick style deep dish pizza in New York and I really pray it is not very good because that would really prove that memories are just faded over time. I will report.

Had a great lunch here, we called ahead to get our pizza started (which is highly recommended) so our pizza came about 5 minutes after being seated. Gino's is tied with Giordano's for my favorite deep-dish. The service here is fast and friendly.

Well I will first start by saying I love Ginos East pizza and if I was rating the food alone it would be 5 stars.... We were a party of 6 - 3 of us got there first and it was not crowded at all..now 10-15 min later the 3 of us are still waiting for the others and a server....servers kept passing us but no one stopped by. Then the rest of our party arrived... 5 min past by when my boyfriend went up to the host stand to let them know we have been waiting a little while...our server was standing up their and realized we were sitting at her table. She had such a bad attitude to whole time and we never complained or anything so not sure what her problem was. Our drinks kept remaining empty....we had to remind her we order beer....and the part that gets me is that..isnt thier other people that work there??? I have served many years of my life and when I passed a table with empty table I refilled them or if I was to busy I would let that server know. Or if beers were sitting at the bar for as long as ours did, dont you think someone could have helped her out. I will not be back to this Gino's East - I hate to give bad reviews but this place gives Gino's East a bad name... oh and please make your servers write down people order for a party of 6 you can not remember everything and their is more chance of you messing up the order and to keep asking what the guest ordered!

First time here. Visiting from California and I know had to try some deep dish pizza. Service is great very fast and a very calm atmosphere. Location: it's a bummer it's in the back of a plaza. But it's like a hidden gem type of thing. Food: had the bruschetta for appetizer and it was great but I just wish it was the fresh kind of bruschetta. It was almost like one of those breakfast pizzas you buy at Costco but more flavorful. Another way to describe it would be that it's like a deep dish bruschetta haha. For pizza we had half meaty legend and half supreme. It was really flavorful although the meaty legend felt like a heart attack it was really well prepared. The meat was Juicy and tasty. The supreme was also well prepared the vegetables were crunchy and not all mush like some pizzas. I love how the sauce was a little more wet than usual. Really really well prepared 100% 5 stars for food alone Experience: the pizza was worth the wait. Only bad was the location and it's not even that big of a deal that its in the back of some business buildings.

YUMMY!!! BYOB! this pizza was the best pizza ive had yet in Chicago! i could pass ont he crust...it tasted like it was made with corn bread but the overall pizza was so so so so yummy!! super cheesy! go here!!!!!!!!!!!!! oh and they have an awesome spinach cheese garlic bread =)

  • Radiance L.

No. Just no. Not worth it. Not worth the wait. When there's a line outside, you have to wait for an hour, and if you're in the market for the deep dish (why else would you come to this dark dungeon with no windows covered in writing?), you'll have to wait another 1 hour plus for your pizza. And it's not that great. So unless you have nothing but time on your hands, I wouldn't recommend this place. Lou Malnati's up the street may be a better bet.

I keep hearing the hype about NY pizza vs Chicago Deep Dish and which one is better. It has embroiled two mega-cities in a competition that has mostly ended in stalemates by many of the food shows. Very few dare to tread into this emotional arena. I will attempt to put an end to the debate and make the mother of all judgements - which is better? And who better than to officiate such a contest than someone like me, a Californian with no emotional roots to the whole thing. All of my research indicated that my best Chi-Town contender to start with was Gino's East. It was also the closest one to my hotel. I had to wait in horrifically cold weather for an hour before I even got in to the restaurant. Ok, I admit this is relative in terms. To a Californian, horrifically cold means anything below 60 degrees. Then it took another hour to get the sausage patty pizza. I got my first slice and was delighted, horrified, and shocked at the same time. Look at the girth of this thing!!! This is one slice?!?!? The only comparison I can think of was when I saw John Holmes for the first time on film in junior high. Freeeeakish! This is not a pizza that is to be picked up - no hand job here. It is a task best conquered with the fork and knife. I quickly took a bite and was immediately burned by the still bubbling melty cheese on the bottom. Yup, this is gonna hurt tomorrow, when I eat Garret's popcorn! The flavors were amazing - extreme garlicky tomato sauce with herbs that is rivaled only by the private collection of Mama Celeste. And there was sausage in every bite cuz it was layered on the entire bottom of the pizza. Oh how I love Chicago! The crust was a buttery cornmeal type, a bit bland but a sturdy vehicle for all of the topping. After one slice, I was good. I ate one more for good measure, but had to end it there. So, the final decision - NY vs Chicago....please give it up! In the words of Rodney King, "can't we all just get along?" You cannot compare the two and it is a disservice to both cities to try. Of course each person has a personal preference, but to make a generalization, it's like trying to compare which mode of transportation is better, the motorcycle or the car? One gets you the girls, the other prevents you from being spread on the asphalt like peanut butter. What the real question everyone should be asking is how is it that in either city, valet parking is cheaper than paid public parking???? Best Thing - sausage pizza

During those years of your life in which size matters, you'll find yourself rating Gino's East as the #1 pie maker in the world. Their pies are big... real big, and thick... and all perfectly suited for all kinds of phallic double entendres. When you up your standards from a life-long quest to find the unequivocally best pizza pie, you'll have to demote Gino's to 4 stars. There's not enough soggy crust, appetizer selection, and cheese in the world to replace what you'll come to agree is vastly more important: - crust - sauce - ingredients - "cuttability" - "character of taste" When size matters, go with Gino's. If you're on a quest for the best, try Pequod's, Burt's, Uno, Due, Lou Malnati's, and Barnaby's.

I was disappointed at this place. The deep dish is soggy and chewy, reminds me of Giordanos' stuff pizza. For deep dish I'd rather have Lou Manalti or Uno.

Located right next to the Marriott hotel, you'd expect a restaurant that's supposed show tourists what Chicago style pizza is all about to serve it up better. I've tried Gino's and Giordano's around The Magnificent Mile area, and both were much better there. I also ordered the mini deep dish lunch special ($6.99) at Gino's East instead of a full size pizza, which could have made a difference. I ordered the pizza ahead of time since it takes 40 minutes to bake. Thinking that we had planned our order out well, we were quite disappointed when the pizza came out lukewarm. My co-workers who ordered the pizza there received piping hot. Maybe too hot since the sauce was burning the roof of their mouths. Not only was the pizza not as fresh as I'd like, the crust was also flavorless and tasted a bit like cardboard. They also ran out of the ministrone soup at 12:35pm, right in the middle of lunch hour. Some poor planning on their part I think. Moral of the story, it's worth it to travel to downtown if you want to get the true Chicago deep dish experience.

Famous For (My review in parentheses) - Deep Dish Pizza I tried: - Pepperoni (Deep Dish) (7/10) - Supreme (Deep Dish) (8/10) It's simple. Wanna know what to order at Gino's East? Deep Dish Pizza! Gino's is one of the trademark Chicago pizza joints. And except for Pizzeria Uno (which I've never been to), I've probably been to this one the least. What I love about the big dogs of Chicago pizza (Lou Malnati's, Gino's East, Giordano's) is that they are all noticeably different from each other, even to the most ignorant of eaters (like me!). The noticeable difference here, is the crust, at least it's noticeable for the better... First, the bad, so we can end on a brighter note. The thing that I really need in my pizza is that gigantic sausage patty like at Lou's (which is the one I frequent the most). From what I've read, Chicago has traditionally been a place for bad-for-you and heart-stopping foods, even in the early 1900's! And me? I'm an "All-Or-Nothing" type of guy. GO FOR GOLD! If I'm going to have a piece of an If-This-Pizza-Won't-Kill-Me-My-Cardiologist-Will Chicago Pizza, I want it all! Bring it damn it! Don't skimp on anything! And that's why when I had my Supreme pizza at Gino's and I didn't have that good ol' protein layer of sausage in my pizza, I was a little sad. I mean, if my heart's going to stop anyway, why not indulge? Someone said that you can get it with a big sausage patty, but it wasn't apparent. So, though the pizza was good, it just felt like it was missing something. Ok, now that that's over with, time for the good. The pizza is absolutely delicious! And the crust is just perfect! I'm a "crunchy" and "crispy" kinda guy. Lou's butter crust is nice and crunchy, but it's not crispy! And on top of that, it just feels dense. Gino's crust is crunchy AND crispy, and that's why I love their crust! I would also say that the flavors in a Gino's pizza are more pungent than Lou's. I'm not saying that there are more flavors (quantity) in Gino's, I'm saying that of the flavors that Gino's has, they are stronger and more noticeable than Lou's. You see, Lou's pizza has a lot of different flavors in one, but the overall taste is a little bland. It's a weird phenomenon, but Lou's crust seems to take center stage, even though the crust is bland. Gino's crust (crunchy and crispy) is probably just as bland, but since it doesn't overwhelm the bite with its blandness, it's got the perfect balance. The flavors of the tomato sauce, tomatoes, cheese, pepperonis, sausages, and peppers on the pizza are so colorful too, with a generous balance of tangy, salty, and the cheese as a balancer. I'm glad I rediscovered Gino's East after all these years, because I've really only been going to Lou's. While the big sausage patty is sorely missed, the flavors on top are just so delectable that I really have a hard time deciding between the two. It's scary, but I might have to side with Gino's, just by a tiny bit, because of the more pungent flavors. It roped me in not just by the flavors, but the amazing crispy crunchy texture of the crust too!

I'm gonna shock everybody here by telling you that Gino's East has converted a native New Yorker to a Chicago-Style-Pizza fan. I was never a big fan of pizza to begin with, but perhaps that's simply because all I knew of pizza is how they make it in New York. Chicago deep dish from Gino's is about as similar to New York pizza as a tuna hand roll is to a baked potato. This pizza is a meal. This is what a meal should taste like.

This location is so close to home & I never knew it! It's tucked away near corporate buildings/ hotels. We came during the week so it was not too busy. We were sat right away & the server was attentive and friendly. I was disappointed that the deep dish pizza is about a 40 minute wait. There's no way to escape that wait time and the pizza is what we came here for. Even after munching on an appetizer we were still checking our phones to see the progress of time..felt like an eternity. The pizza itself is okay for deep dish, but not my favorite out there. It is a good option close to home- Lou Malnati's and Giordano's aren't too far from here either. In general I'm a fan of deep dish so I would come back here!

We got the meat lovers deep dish and the supreme deep dish for delivery. Needless to say, I had the best pizza i've ever had in my life. Oh, after a quarter of the pizza was sitting outside for 2 1/2 days, I decided to eat it; yup, still delicious, I don't even care about the surprise coming. What's this? They deliver nationwide?

Nice to visit, and the sauce is good.. But it really wasn't anything that special. It has a dive bar feel because of all the graffiti, but the size of the restaurant makes it feel more like a Friday's.

I love this pizza, and I am not a pizza person. One piece is enough to for me, so My mom and I only get smalls when we go there. It's interesting in there, everything's signed. It's Chicago style pizza. How do you go wrong?

I'm a fan of this place just because of it's significance. It's a great place to show new-comers to Chicago where they can have "authentic" deep dish pizza. The atmosphere is fun. Writing on the walls makes it a very interesting venue. If you are to partake in the activity, I suggest bringing a white out pen; as hardly anything in dark pen is even legible anymore. The pizza is good. Nothing crazy special, but definitely not something to be disappointed by. There is always something to get on that menu that you'll like. Also, remember that the pizza takes about 45 mins to an hour to make, so don't come starving, or if you do, get an appetizer.

I was so thoroughly excited and impressed to have gotten to eat here! There were so many good vibes out there from my friends, the Food Network and online reviews to try their Deep Dish Pizza!! After coming in from the snow, sitting down in their graffiti covered booths, I was thrilled to taste the famous pizza. It was perfection. Us three girls shared a large and I can honestly say I was full after one slice. They were so big. The crust was perfectly crunchy and buttery, the cheese was just melted perfectly that it stretched when we separated pieces. The service was fabulous and the atmosphere was so "Chicago." I enjoyed every minute of my experience here and can't wait to go back. You Chicago-ans are so lucky you get to have this whenever you want!

While in Chicago I had heard many great things about Gino's, so I had to try it myself.... I had my 1st deep dish in Chicago at Uno's and must say I was impressed. Gino's East has a much larger dining area, the service was good, no complaints. Maybe I should of tried their deep dish but since I had already sinned at Uno's I decided on a thin crust pepperoni & sausage. I was with a friend and while we waited for our pizza we started with their house salad with italian dressing it was very crisp, fresh, and the dressing mmm so good. Our pizza arrived and I must say Gino's did not disappointment. Our pizza was thin, crispy, and had a nice spicy bite to it. I didn't leave feeling as guilty as I did when I left Uno's, but I like both pizzeria's equally the same. Next time I'm in Chicago I will have to try their deep dish! Gino's is a must try if ever in Chicago!

Gino's is apparently a love it or hate it type of place. I first remember getting Gino's when I was 10 years old and loved it. Through out the years when I would visit Chicago, I always made an effort to stop in for stuffed pizza. Mmmmm. And I also had it shipped to my house in Louisville. It was rather expensive, but worth the wait. Things have changed since then. They have moved and you can no longer write on the walls in the new place. Or can you? I went right as they moved in and the walls were clean. Correct me if I am wrong. Love the cornbread crust and the pizza is great. Love it or hate it...I love it. I hear people tell me Gino's is a tourist trap pizza joint. I don't care if it is or not. I can't say it's my favorite, but it's definately a top 5 of all time pizza list.

Unlike many people I know I'm not really a Gino's East girl. The pizza is super stringy, hot and deep dish but once it goes cold good luck getting back to taste normal. It also doesn't really taste as fresh as I think homemade pizza should. It has a very popular name and tourists would surely stop by just because of the name but unfortunately that's all there is to it. If this place had better ingredients for their pizza and maybe waitresses that could actually speak english it would be more appealing to me. One thing I did like however, is the outdoor seating.

I been eating Ginos East as far as I can remember. The one in downtown was amazing and delicious, but this one leaves me with wondering how the taste doesnt satisfy my urges. Now some may bash me for this, but I feel more satisfied eating a Little Caesars Pizza than this Ginos East. The crust is usually burned and the topping is just exaggerating greasy. Nonetheless, I come here because my brother loves this place.

This is definitely the worst pizza I have ever ate in my life...ordered the thin crust pesto basil pizza and it was inedible, literally...the pizza tasted like it was made two days ago and the crust wasnt even good either. Cheese bread - dont bother, just melted cheese w/ragu marinara sauce on a baguette. Garlic sticks werent bad though.

OMG, I can't believe I ate here. It had something to do with it being right across the parking lot from the Marriott O'Hare, in a drab hotel wasteland. My only advice to you is that even if you are on a diet, ditch it and don't order anything but the pizza if you go here. I tried to eat something 'lighter' by getting the mostaccioli with marinara sauce, and it was overcooked to the point of falling apart, and the sauce was nothing to write home about either. The caesar salad and the garlic bread were reasonable and could have warranted an A-OK, but I don't care how good the pizza is, an Italian restaurant should be ashamed to be serving pasta like that.

I was weary of eating pizza at a place that was so close to O'Hare in a commercialized area. After all being from Chicago, you know where you can find good pizza. The plus to this place is that there was no accompanying 1-2 hour wait to sit down and eat like at other locations around the city. The pizza turned out to be quite delicious and just as good as my downtown favorite. I wasn't too impressed with the appetizer, but it was more for tiding over until the pizza arrived. All in all, if I'm ever near O'Hare and have a hankering for pizza, Gino's will be the top of my list. Not an absolute must if you live in Chicago, but if you're in the area, definitely check this place out. A personal pizza lasted me three meals, so while it may have cost $15, it made up for it's price over the long run. Those who gave it low ratings obviously had no clue about Chicago pizza. If you want pasta, don't go to a pizza place. And if you're on a diet, don't go to a pizza place. Deep dish pizza is not for the calorie conscientious...

The pizza here is pretty good. I don't give it five stars because it's not anything out of the world, or not anything you could find at a dozen other places in Chicago. Most notably, people tend to comment on the pizza crust at Gino's East. It's nice and thick, a great crusty flake to it, but not hard enough that it'll hurt to try and chew. The crust's dough is very similar to a cornbread crust, if you can imagine that on your pizza. I've ordered probably 8 different types of pizza from here and have been satisfied with each one. The two we order most are the Meaty Legend, which is an assortment of different meats baked into your pizza (sausage, bacon, canadian bacon, pepperoni, etc.), and will easily keep the next meat fanatic content. And the other we most commonly order is the sausage patty. They actually bake a large sausage patty into it's own layer into your pizza. With a great menu, flavorful crust, and overall incredible ingredients to go with the typical Chicago deep dish pizza, who can complain?

I took a group of 12 to Gino's East for a pizza party on a Sunday. If I had it to do over again, I'd pick another place. When we first got there, we were seated in the wrong area so we had to relocate. Not a big deal normally but I had a 67 & 73 year old in the group. We had preordered our food so salads were waiting on the tables. They were tasty and generous. The pizzas were good - no complaints. The last items was the cookies which were disgusting. Service was lackluster. Despite the fact that I had ordered our pizzas a couple of months on advance, it still took almost an hour to get them once we were seated. We requested pitchers of root beer which were also long in coming and never replenished despite a request. I know this is supposed to be a Chicago staple but I was incredibly unimpressed.

Walking along the magnificent mile (Michigan avenue), you try to mind your own business...who am I kidding...You become nosey as anything. Well anyway we noticed a queue extending from a board, proudly highlighted Gino's East, down the block easily 20ft long. Curiosity didnt kill this cat, in fact this cat got fed! :) The mother-load of all pizzas. Chicago's infamous deep dish pizzas are sensational. I dont think any pizza in the world can possibly stand up to the almighty cheesorino. Not to go completely Ned Flanders (from the simpsons) but this pizza will do things to you! amazing tasteful things. The service is ace and location key! The interior strange yet unique and wonderful. Actors and Actresses badged to the walls. The perfect American experience. AMERICA IS AWESOME!!!!!! The one place I bow to and accept the need to queue for food.

Actually, I was just going over my notes and I'm improving my rating for Gino's East. The reason? Great customer service. We ordered an appetizer that they ran out of, and without prompting they gave us a giant salad for free in its place. Kudos to their manager/staff for this. Pizza Due is still better pizza, but Gino's is a good time for a large group. More extensive review here: fuzzychef.org/archives/I…

I'm an "out-of-towner" but I head to Chicago about 3 times a year and the first place I go when I arrive from the airport is Gino's East. SUCH amazing pizza, good price, and definitly leaves you satisfied! Cool atmosphere and friendly staff but beware the wait outside around the dinner hour!

How can you beat cornbread crust? Gino's East pizza is heaven on a plate. I don't really think it coincidence that halos and Gino's East pizza are both round. The crust is crispy, slightly sweet, and delicious. The toppings are buried like hidden treasure under their amazing fresh sauce. While the pie is the main attraction, its not the only thing worth going here for. The beer selection is pretty descent and goes well beyond macro brew swill. They have a full bar as well if that's your thing. Gino's also serves up sandwiches and Italian favorites.

I am a pizza lover but not usually a deep dish kind of guy so my review might not be useful if you are a big deep dish lover. The pizza was really greasy and just kind of left me feeling bloated and sad. My server didn't seem interested at all and the dining room was a bit messy.

I love deep dish pizza, so I did enjoy my meal, but I wish the pizza had more sauce. I had the vegi deep dish with sausage added (does that make any sense?) and enjoyed the toppings very much. I had delivery. I will try it again.

Heartburn. That pretty much sums up my experience here. It might not have helped that the pizza we ordered was all meat and cheese. The pizza was good, don't get me wrong, but I'm not a Chicago Deep Dish kinda guy, more of a very thin crust Italian/NY guy. They should offer a pink pepto drink on the menu for the out-of-towners.

Came here again with my bff since she had a rough day. Ordered the deep dish spinach and it was DEEEEELISH!!! We also ordered a house salad, which was not so good to me, and mozzarella sticks, which were pretty good. But of course the pizza was the best part! Cant have this all the time but every once in a while, this pizza is such a grea treat!

Let me just say right up front that I've never been a huge fan of Gino's East, so take this review with a grain of salt. When you order a deep dish pizza with sausage from Gino's East, you have the option of ordering your sausage "crumbled" or "patty." The "patty" is essentially a sausage disk, which closely resembles a perfectly shaped circle of sausage, almost like a sausage frisbee placed on top of the cheese. The end result is you get sausage in every bite, and while the sheer quantity of the sausage patty is impressive, the quality is really not that good. It has a mild garlic flavor with black pepper, but it is no where near as good (or as fresh or as flavorful) as the garlic sausage used over at Pizzeria Uno/Due, Lou Malnati's, Pizano's, Louisa's, or Burt's Place. In regard to the crust, Gino's East uses some sort of yellow food coloring to give its' signature crust that yellow cornmeal look, along with some corn oil, but the crust is often very dry and somewhat flavorless. It should not be mentioned in the same sentence as the famous buttercrust used over at Lou Malnati's, due to the lack of butter/flavor of the Gino's East crust. It's also not as good as the slightly buttery/very crunchy/corn oil and olive oil crust used at Pizzeria Uno/Due. Ironically, the crust recipe from Gino's East came from Alice Mae Redmond, who was a cook at Pizzeria Uno/Due for 17 years before she was wooed over to Gino's East in 1966. However, the crust she created for Gino's East is not as flavorful as the crust at her former employer because Pizzeria Uno/Due adds both corn oil AND olive oil for extra flavor, and it definitely shows. Finally, the biggest problem with Gino's East is their tomato sauce. While Lou Malnati's, Pizzeria Uno/Due, and Louisa's use perfectly vine ripened, sweet and tangy tomatoes, which all leave pizza lovers with a wine-like aftertaste, Gino's East tomato sauce almost tastes like a zesty Ragu spaghetti sauce. It's not sweet and tangy, and that wine-like aftertaste made famous at Lou Malnati's, Pizzeria Uno/Due, and Louisa's, simply does not exist at Gino's East because of the overabundance of oregano used in their tomato sauce, thereby giving it a very zesty flavor. If you like this type of zesty flavor, then Gino's East is for you. I, myself, prefer the sweet and tangy, wine-like flavor of all the tomato recipes that can be traced back to the original kitchen at Pizzeria Uno back in 1943, i.e. Lou Malnati's ( Lou was at both Uno and Due for 22 years, before venturing out on his own in 1971 ), and the late Louisa De Genero who also spent much of her career in Pizzeria Due's kitchen. BOTTOM LINE: 3 words to describe Gino's East compared to Lou Malnati's, Pizzeria Uno/Due, and Louisa's: Not even close.

I've visited Gino's East twice only because my wife purchased a Groupon each time. She came here while she was in high school and living in Michigan so she remembers the writing all over the walls (from the original building. from my understanding this building is new and larger than the original) and the thick pizza. It is a nostalgic thing for her. Not so much for me. I know this is an iconic Chicago joint and all however, I find the pizza to be, well, okay. It is a great place to bring people who want to experience a Chicago original however, I think there are various other pizzerias that have better Chicago-style pies. Our last visit found us eating half-frozen spinach/cheese sticks with no apology from the waiter after we mentioned it. Like I said, it's okay but there are better out there.

I was recently in Chicago for a personal trip and was told to eat at Gino's East, it's almost an institution, I was told. Now, I'm a New York pizza kind of guy. I prefer my pies thin enough that I can fold a slice without breaking it. This does not affect my review in any way, shape or form though. I just wanted to say that in terms of pizza, I don't go for deep-dish. That said, I was very pleased with the place, the service, and the quality of the food. Being able to write on the walls is a nice kitsch-y touch. The server I had, though she was a little forgetful (and it wasn't a packed hour), was very accommodating and pleasant. She told us that it would take about 45 minutes to make our pie, which me and my friend didn't mind, because the pizza was worth it. The sauce wasn't overspiced, the cheese didn't taste like it's from a cardboard box, and the crust certainly lived up to expectations. I like the contrast of the sweet crust with the salty sausages and the sour-sweet tomato sauce. The experience certainly didn't change my preference of type of pizza, but regardless, I would go back here should I find myself in the area once again.

I was in Chicago for the very first time and was super excited to experience my first deep dish pizza. My family and I were not able to finish this pizza, not because it was so filling, but because it was THAT bad. I think it may have been overcooked because the pizza crust was so hard that I had to scrape the toppings off. The entire pie lacked flavor and although we ordered the supreme, I couldn't see any of the toppings. It was so awful that I concluded that Chicago pizza just wasn't for me, which was disheartening because I fell in love with the city. Judging from the other reviews, my experience may have been an odd one (e.g., perhaps they had a new chef). However, I do not think I will be back. Note: My family and I tried Giordanos the very next day and it was FABULOUS!

Arrived in Chi-town 4 days ago and had Giordano's deep dish..WOW! Then on our last night, tonight, we went to Gino's East to compare...WOWWOWWOW!! The cornmeal crust was different and refreshing after flour-based crusts and the marinara (pizza sauce) was chunky and delicious! If I only had one night to enjoy a deep dish puzza I would choose Gino's!

I was recently in Chicago 8/10/11 for a BIDNESS trip and was told to eat at Gino's East, it's almost an institution, I was told. I will give it a 2nd try next time I am in Chi-town but really, I dont get what all the fuss is about. I had the thin crust sausage, the crust was really hard, is that normal? That said, I was very pleased with the place, the service, and the quality of the food. The bartender Mariola was either having a rough day or jsut not nto it but thats ok, we all have our days. The experience certainly didn't change my preference of type of pizza, but regardless, I would go back here should I find myself in the area once again. I go 3 1/2 stars

Some great 'za to start my visit! The crust was buttery and crisp enough but not so sharp where it cuts your mouth up. I was excited to try the chopped salad but was sorta disappointed in the iceberg lettuce w macaroni noodles. It was interesting but sort of blah. The garlic breadsticks were fab tho!

I never had a REAL deep dish pizza in my life. So getting a piece of Gino's East was like a dream come true. My parents drop off my brother for school, and almost every time they come back, they bring a whole Gino's East Pizza for me. Not the frozen kind, but the kind you can bake fresh. The taste of this pizza is so good, I never thought I had pizza taste like this. The tomatoes are juicy, the sausage is flavorful, and other toppings are just as good. The crust, well, it is flakey and crisp that you would think, pizza like this couldn't possibly exist. Customer service is great, they were willing to help my parents with some of the minor changes they wanted to have for pizza. We ordered a few for other families so some of them didn't want toppings. They were very willing to change those items for us. They are also patient, since my parents went there for the first time last year, they didn't know where to go, my parents called them numerous times to get the directions right so that they would not miss their flight. They not only gave directions, but driving times as well. If I ever get the chance to come back to Chicago, I would be more than happy to take my friends and other family members to this wonderful establishment.

So recently I had a friend come in from out of town and it was her first time in Chicago. So I was like....ding ding ding you have to try the deep dish pizza! Gino's was right next to her hotel so we made that short walk right on over. This was my first time trying Gino's because I'm such a fan to Giordano's! I must say that it was very good and my friend was melting in her seat ha ha! I think the next time shes in town we will mos def hit this place back up!

My boyfriend and I came here on a Thursday afternoon of touristy stuff. Our service was absolutely wonderful. The woman was just so nice and helpful. We ordered two Ceasar salads to start with, she recommended one b/c they were so big, and I'm glad she did. The salad with breadsticks was wonderful and big enough for both of us. We split a small deep dish pizza, half 4 cheese and half pepperoni. It was really good, even though I'm not much of a deep dish pizza person. The environment was really neat, with writing all over the walls and cool memorabilia. It was a great way to kick off our time in the city.

This review is for their online service only. I am an addict to the Food Network show The Best Thing I Ever Ate. Curiousity got the best of me last week when I saw Gino's East on their Pizza special and was in awe of their Sausage Patty Style Pizza. I went to their website and was bummed that they featured their Sausage Patty Style but wasn't something you could order online. Oh well, I'll reserve that when I visit Chi-town in person. I still wanted to try this place out so I ordered their Deep Dish Crumbled Sausage Pizza & Cheese Pizza. It was a bit pricey for their 11", 1 topping pies ($26 each) and almost $20 in shipping via UPS (2 day air). So, I received an email from Featured Foods, who facilitated the transaction, letting me know that the pizzas shipped and should arrive in 2 days. I was stoked, excited and just like a little kid in Christmas, couldn't wait to open my presents. So, the day comes, I'm anxiously peeping out the window hourly, like an excited little puppy, looking for a brown truck and someone in shorts to drop off a package. 6pm comes around and no brown truck :( I called Featured Foods immediately and they told me that they sent the email by mistake and that it should arrive the next day. SOB!!! Now to the pizza. It arrived the next day still somewhat frozen. Popped em in the oven for 35 minutes and came out pipin hot. The crumbly cornbread like crust was really good and was addictingly tasty. The tomato sauce was excellent, wasn't overwhelming tarty or slathered on. The sausage was good but not great. I'd probably order from them again but in person. I'm still looking forward to getting my hands and mouth on their Sausage Patty Style pizza.

Overall, the food is pretty good. It's on the high side for cost. They do make a great 4 cheese thin crust pizza that no other restaurant can match. Yes, the deep dish is here, but it's recommended that you get the thin crust 4 cheese. This place seems to be more about atmosphere, but that's aright. It has great indoor eating and the patio is beautiful in the spring/summer.

This was the worst over-priced meal I have ever had. Over $18 for lunch Spaghetti and meatballs and a root beer!!! They forgot the meatballs, so I went back and asked them to give me the meatballs and meat sauce, since they put marinara on the spaghetti. They handed me two meatballs and said "thank you", no new sauce, no we're sorry. The salad was hot and whithered and watery. The meatballs were watery with no flavor. They gave me a piece of garlic bread which was cold and no flavor. It was a huge waste of time and money.

June 16, 2012, Downtown location - Had the deep dish and thin crust supreme and both were mediocre at best. The deep dish crust was undercooked and the chef appeared to have skimped on the ingredients. The thin crust was heavy on cheese but the sausage was ok, if a bit rubbery. Overall, a very disappointing $48.00 experience. We were surprised as on our last visit to this location, the pies were very noticeably better. Had a Lou Malnati's 2 days later and it was far superior.

I must have gotten the graveyard shift according to the previous poster. The service here was horrible if you consider waiting 45 minutes for a small pizza is unreasonable. Luckily I had my kindle, but the wait was simply too much for my one night out in Chicago. Food Network rated Gino's East as one of the best pizzas in America...but they left out suk service! Okay so Chicago pizza vs NYC, fo-get about it. NYC still rules, especially when considering Lombardi's. Gino's pizza was huge and everyone seemed to love it in the place. Lots of tourists...so about the pizza. It's f'in huge! Lotsa cheeze, large morsels of sausage, covered in a well balanced marinara sauce, that was both tangy and sweet. By putting the cheese on before the sauce, the crust was able to retain it's crispiess. Pretty amazing as a deep dish. I prefer something with less dough, but I guess that's not the point in a deep dish. The crust did resemble a corn bread crust, and actually was pretty flavorful too. I really challenged myself tonight and had 3 of the four pieces. I'm not going back due to the poor service, thus the extra effort. I've got other restaurants to try...

Now THIS is how you do pizza! Came here last 4th of july with my family. I love the atmosphere here. Customer service was great. Wasnt too annoying or spending too much time away from us. We no longer have an Uno's in KC =( so this is the deep dish pizza that I miss!! Can't wait to come back!

Let me preface by saying I just don't think I'm a deep dish pizza kinda gal. My boyfriend and I ate dinner here on a Saturday night and easily got a table downstairs. When you walk in, you'll realize that the entire restaurant has writing on the walls... every last bit of it. I guess writing on the walls is a time killer since it takes about 45 minutes for a deep dish pizza to come to the table after it's ordered. The house salad is pretty typical with iceberg lettuce, onions, olives, and tomatoes. The house dressing is very good so make sure and get it!!! The pizza itself is thick, cheesy, and just over the top. The sausage here is done patty style and they put the red sauce on top of the cheese and toppings. I personally am not a fan but that's b/c I tend to like flatbreads myself. Our waiter was very sweet and surprised us with a brownie which was very large and tasted like any other brownie... which is to say it was good and chocolaty! I'm glad I tried this place out, but next time I'll probably stick to their regular thin pizzas. And I'll have to make sure and bring a pen to write on the walls with!

I was told to visit here by buddies who swear by deep dish pizza. I went in and ordered the standard sausage and cheese pizza. I must say while it wasn't a life changing, it definitely was delicious. The sausage in/on the pizza was the best I've ever tasted on pizza. The crust was very crispy. Its so rich and good you can only eat 2 pieces at the most (well most people). Definitely going back when I come back to Chicago....

Gino's certainly offered up the best, and most stuffing, of the deep dish pizzas I recently sampled in my journeys to Chicago. I can see how the corn-flour based crust might rile some pizza purists, but I really enjoyed it. It provided both a nice element of flavor and texture to contrast with the rest of the pizza. It was not so enormously thick as to swallow up and mask the flavors of the sauce and toppings. It was nicely cooked, and crisp enough to give this pie some backbone. The sauce was also quite nice, packing a nice bold flavor without being to thin and runny. The tomato chunks rivaled the size of some toppings, but didn't get in the way. Then, there are the toppings. The meaty legend was an incredible beast of savory goodness, packing meats both salty and slighty sweet, cripsy and soft. Then the supreme with its' half-inch thick sausage disk and extremely fresh tasting bell peppers came in to wallop me with another giant pizza punch. Sad to say, I couldn't even finish all of my two slices. It was definitely a TKO, and I've never felt like such a lightweight. But if I had to go down at the feet of two pizza slices, I can't think of a better pair than those two from Gino's East.

Ya know, I eat a LOT of pizza, and here's sending a nudge to some of my favs to sort of read between the lines here: Cornmeal, yellow crust rocks. Gino's is uniquely Chicago deep dish. Had a buddy fly through for a Gino's and doing the same today: celeb flyin' in from L.A. for some deep dish and going back. Noon, Gino's East. Nothing fancy, just your basic place for a pitcher of beer or pop and deep dish. In summer, dine outside; in winter, get in back and consume mass quantities. Lines of people and a bit of a wait for the chow, so be prepared for waiting, but worth it.

Service was horrible (sat at the bar and dealt with a rude polish lady who told me what I wanted to order, and when my salad finally arrived I had no silverware) ten minutes passed and still no silverware, another patron pointed out to me she was sitting at someone elses table eating dinner. He then told me service isn't usually this bad but I tend to disbelieve that. i liked the deep dish and found the corn bread crust interesting and good. this particular location was good for where i was located (marriot o'hare), but in a general visit to chi-town i would likely go to the original gino's

Best pizza I've had in a while! Can't go wrong with the deep dish or thin crust. Just because it says small deep dish pizza on the menu, don't be fooled!!! It's still a lot of cheesy greasy goodness. We ended up ordering both deep dish and thin crust thinking we wouldn't have enough food, but we were wrong. Appetizers are great also. Make sure you get the deep fried spinach and mozzarella sticks! Location is hard to find from the main street if you don't pay attention, but there's plenty of parking. Prices are also very reasonable. Only reason I docked 1 star was that the food took longer than anticipated. Nevertheless service was still awesome. Despite the wait, it's really worth it. I'll have to say this is one of the top 5 pizza joints I've been to.

This was way better than Giordano's. More buttery crust, fillings were about the same quality, but Giordano's were assembled in a more pie-like fashion. Gino's fillings were more like pizza casserole. This was better, and delicious, and I regret not eating more.

I haven't found a Chicago deep dish that I haven't liked. The difference between Gino's and other Chicago deep dish pizza's is the crust. This one has a closer consistency to corn bread than other pizza restaurants, but is still delicious as hell. I really like the sausage pizza, and the way that the sausage patty covers the entire pizza in one sheet (ensures sausage in every bite).

Usually my first stop after checking into my hotel in Chicago. I love their pizza and the atmosphere. Service is pretty good but like all deep dish pizza, order it first as it takes a while to cook (typical of all deep dish pizza places). My wife and I are on the walls along with the countless others.

The pizza was pretty good- not the best I have had, but pretty good. I know I could possibly be murdered for this, but we have better deep dish here in Boise, ID. Heading into Ginos almost felt like a bastardized version of a tourist trap restaurant like Hard Rock Cafe or the Rainforest. It's huge and every square inch of walls, floors, etc is covered with grafitti. We got a beer, small pizza and appetizer sampler. The appetizers were pretty good- cheese sticks, deep fried spinach dip (I know!) and Calamari. Calamari was not that good, cheese sticks were average- just like applebees, and the fried spinach dip was okay, but an interesting novelty. Probably not low in calories. The pizza- toppings were kind of bland. We got a combo and to be honest, I couldn't really taste any of the individual toppings- just the cheese and sauce. Lots of cheese and really crisy tasty crust- that was the best part. If I were back in Chicago, I would take my time to search for another deep dish place- there has to be better deep dish in Chicago than this- right? Oh yes- appetizer plate, one two beers, small pizza, tip: $55.

Recently did a taste test of all the major deep dish places and Gino's came in last. Dissapointing, because 5 years ago I would have ranked it first. Pizza was kind of salty and the crust was like cardboard. Not sure what happened but they need to revamp the recipe.

i ordered a frozen sausage deep dish for my dad's birthday back home. he's originally from Chicago and always told us stories of how great the pizza is. and trust me, gino's did not disappoint. our pizzas took 4 business days to come. they were packaged with dry ice to ensure temperature control. we followed the instructions to re-heat the pizzas and there were amazing. worth the wait and the several times i had to hear my dad describe the greatness of gino's. the crust was cooked to perfection. the dough is out of this world. the entire pizza is something hard to describe but worth every bite. if you're not able to drive to a location definitely order this pizza by mail. because every person needs to eat a gino's east pizza once in their life!

Good delivery option if you're staying near the airport. The prices are reasonable and the food is good. Pizza crust is a bit crispier than most but that's a good thing- it keeps the toppings from soaking thru and making the pizza flacid.

Great friendly staff and the fact that my art kids could leave their mark allover the building makes it a great place to bring a group of art teens or any group of teens. The pizza was a little disappointing. It was a little soggy from the tomato sauce and the veggie pizza had a few big pieces of ham in them! We will definitely go back here when we visit again but I hope they will leave off the ham.

Food was pretty good. Service was lackluster. Being in Chicago for the weekend, it's almost mandatory you stop at someplace like this. We got there just after they opened on a Sunday and didn't have to wait at all to get a seat. When we left, the line was out the door. The 45 minutes we waited for the deep dish pepperoni went by pretty quickly - even without service or wifi on my Verizon phone. The pizza was fantastic. Our waitress was not. She couldn't have been more cold or indifferent to us. Very unfriendly. Being in the business she's in, that's no way to treat a table. Perhaps it was just a bad day for her. Fine, but leave it at home. Would I go back, probably. Or next time I'm in the city, I might just select another pizza joint.

Gino's....you really need to can your staff and start over. We refuse to eat in again, due to the inattentive waitstaff, but never really had any problems with to go orders....until last week. We thought a Gino's pizza and some vino would be the perfect meal to watch the Presidential returns with. It would have been, had your phone people not hung up on us repeatedly!! We never got the chance to place an order. We were put on hold and then disconnected at least three times. Yes, we love your pizza, but you really need to re-evaluate your staff!

I have always been a Lou Malnati's fan and one of my friends suggested going to Gino's East. I agreed since I haven't been in a long time... The pizza was terrible in comparison to Lou's. I can't believe I wasted my money, time, and precious stomach space for Gino's. Never again.

Remember This Is Pizza Pie Not just Pizza! If your every fortunate enough to visit the Chi( born and Raised) never mind the line and that its freezing cold the pizza is worth it. The deep, deep dish pizza is clearly the best I've every had and I love my Za. Their unique way of perfecting pizza is unmatched by anyone, I've had new york, Phillie's, even Florida's imagine that, I've even made many of my own. Like Hamma said "Can't Touch This" You can put a next day frozen pizza order in to anywhere in the U.S. and just pop it in the oven and Walla! that's whasup

Best deep dish in Chicago. Better crust than Lou's and much more hearty than Uno's. Nothing compares to their sausage pizza. Any amount of time is worth the wait to eat here, or at any of their locations. But by all the whining on here I guess only Chicagoans would know that. So shut yo trap and quit whining, tourists. Their breadsticsk are fantastic as well. FYI.

One of the most authentic deep dish pizzas in town. Come hungry...however, get appetizers. The pizzas can take up to an hour to cook...but well worth the wait... And get there early on Friday and Saturday nights...even sometimes on the weekdays. This place gets VERY packed. Oh...and don't forget your sharpie...you can graffiti wherever you like...and apparently EXCEPT the bathrooms...LOL

To caveat, I am not a fan of deep dish. But that being said, Gino's East does it right, and is the place I recommend for out of town guests looking to have an authentic deep dish experience. Thick, doughy crust, great sauce and toppings galore. It's a great place to try your first deep dish.

Dear Chicago pizza, I would totally trade you for cheesesteaks. Please? Pretty please? Even though this places has been gentrified, it still has the graffiti-covered tables and walls. Get spinach and cheese, you'll need some veggies to justify eating so much fat. The crust is amazing, I wish I could make it at home. It takes forever to prepare, but is totally worth the wait.

Can't say I like the pizza or not as im not a super meat lover, but if you ever visit Chicago you gotta try their unique meat-plate like kind of pizza thats only available in Chitown!

ok, alright I'm a fan. That being said. I have been in this Gino's many times. But, this past Sat night. Ouch!. It wasn't exactly crowded, but when we came in the Hostess informed us our seating availabillity was at the bar. (There were three tables with no-one at them.). Upon sitting at the bar, we were waited on relatively quickly. We ordered the cheesy garlic bread. Most excellant. And my latest craze in pizza is I love having it with sausage patties, mushrooms and chopped tomatoes. (very good). Problem: They should have had a waitress in the bar. The bartender was stuck with both jobs. He was having a hell of a time keeping up. He did ok. But why stress out like that?

Gino's is one of the most popular pie places in the city and for good reason. The restaurant wreaks of old town Chicago and the pictures and stories on the wall validate it's existence in this wonderful town. have good pie. I wondered in and sat at the vintage style bar where the bartender quickly took my order for a small mushroom deep dish pie. He was very helpful and told me it would take at least 30 minutes to make this cheesy delight. No worries, as I sat at the bar drinking water, reading the paper and listening to the bartender moan about the sox. He was not wrong, and 30 minutes later the pie was there in all it's glory. The pizza was awesome! I enjoyed every last bite until I couldn't eat anymore. The deep dish is a must have at Gino's and the wait is more than worth it.

This is a cool place to go to when you are in the mood for some Chicago style pizza. This place is conveniently located near Chicago O'Hare airport, so it is great for travelers as well as locals that live within the suburbs that surround O'Hare. During great weather I would recommend the outdoor area.

I'm going to come out and say it... I've tried deep dish twice and I'm just not a fan. Too much of a good thing is not good. Service - Friendly Food - 1. Thin spinach pie - Great! Crispy crust, perfect amount of spinach, and cooked perfectly where the cheese is brown and caramelized. 2. Deep dish sausage style patty pizza - Horrible. The sausage was unappealing to the eye and kept falling off the pizza with every bite. Too much cheese and sauce and the crust too buttery.

Really sad that this pizza is as poor as it is now. Gino's was once a staple in terms of kicking out good Chicago-style pies. I've tried this location multiple times in hopes that it will redeem itself. Unfortunately, they haven't. For my dime I would much rather shoot down to Lou Malnati's.

Gino's thin crust pizza was like eating pizza on a "cracker crust". It was dry as a rock with meager ingredients. World's Worse tasting corn meal deep dish crust! We ordered the Gino's deep dish cheese and sausage pizza as well as the Meat Lover's special thin crust. Please be warned that you will be disappointed at Gino's and instead go to Salerno's!! Salerno's makes the most delicious, quality pizza in Chicago. :)

OH MY DUDE!! Gino's East is "Punch Your Mama In Da Mouf!!" DELICIOUS!! Chicago deep-dish pizza at it's BEST!! Hey man, keep in mind that it takes about 45 minutes to prepare and cook one of these little dudes, so be patient. It's worth the wait. AND, the house Italian salad dressing is UNBELIEVABLE!!

Best pizza in town? yup. Best atmosphere in town? for a pizza joint? yup Best waitstaff? nope We were the only people there and it took forever to even see a speck of food before thirty minutes had past. Another time, I waited over an hour for pizzas, and I was with guests! worth the wait though.

About a month ago, I came to Chicago and had my first deep dish pizza here. It was sooo good. I don't even remember which pizza it was, but I do remember that there was sausage, mushrooms, and some other amazing stuff just piled on. It was pretty huge. Ever since I've left Chicago, I keep thinking about Gino's deep dish pizza, and how much I miss it. Mmmm.

When I found out that I'd be going to Chicago, I already planned on trying some Chicago-style pizza. I heard Gino's was the spot to go. We got there and were seated right away. Our server told us that it would be about a 45 min - 1 hour wait if we wanted deep dish pizza. OMG! R u kidding? He went on to explain that "you can't rush a baby now, so you really can't expect to rush a pizza". OK fine, guess I'll have a vodka-tonic to help kill the time. We didn't want to over-order since we heard these pizzas were filling, so the three of us decided to split a small...sigh...yes, I know. We should've gotten a medium. My tiny slice was like an appetizer and I wasn't satisfied. If I didn't have such dreadfully boring company & if my drink were as normally as strong as usual, I would've ordered a few more vodka tonics and waited around for another pizza. The server was pretty cheerful and attentive and the atmosphere was fun.

LETTUCE AND WATER..for days...this pizza is deadly ...SO GOOD ! Each piece must be a days worth of calories..But who cares? Its soooo freaking good. Deep dish and amazing!!!! Service is super friendly. CALL AHEAD FOR QUICKER SERVICE...the pizza can take about 45 mins to cook. Great kids pizza too...

I'm really torn for my review because: 1) We ate the pizza in our hotel room after a 7 hour road trip, so we would have probably eaten s&^t sandwiches at that point and loved them 2) We ate in the hotel, not the establishment itself 3) I didn't totally love the corn-based dough but did like it Overall, I'd suggest people try this pizza at least once. I really liked the tomato sauce and I'm picky with the sauce. I always get sauce that's too watery/spicy/bland and this is, by far, the best pizza sauce I've ever had. Chunks of fresh tomato make it awesome. The cheese was good, tasted fresh, and was not over-powering for the sauce. The amount of ingredients piled on made this pizza even more flavorful. My suggestion would be not to order an entire pie if it's not necessary, just a couple of slices. They are huge and very filling. If this really IS Chicago-style pizza, I love it! (Being from Texas, I'm still not sure about "true" Chicago-style pizza.)

It was my first time coming here about 2 months ago. I came here with a friend who is IN LOVE with this place. This pizza place is cute. There's patio tables outside for nice-weather days. The inside is a little dark, but this makes it nice for a date place. The staff was friendly and we got seated right away. It was really empty with only 2 other tables being served. Anyway, we ordered the deep dish, of course. I was expecting wonderful things since Gino's East is one of the top popular Chicago pizzerias. It was good. Not great, just good. The crust was tasting kind of sweet. I'm a pizza fanatic so I'll eat any pizza. Doesn't mean I'll like it though, but I liked Gino's. However, it doesn't compare to Lou Malnati's AT ALL! Lou Malnati's still remains my favorite, sorry Gino!!

Che scifosso! This place is the WORST! Doesn't hold a candle to Gino's East on Superior or even at Diversey and Lincoln! They should be stripped of the Gino's East name!!! The sauce, the doh, everything is different and LOUSY!!! I ordered twice for pick up and BOTH times I felt nauseous. Either FOLLOW the original recipe or CLOSE YOUR DOORS!!!

I'n not a big fan of deep dish, but if you haven't tried it, its good to at least try. The sauce is really GOOD, but overall I like thin crust. The good thing is I get full off of one slice, cheap meal for me! I guess Chicagoans need something very heavy with all the walking around you have to do in the very WINDY city!

Not the easiest place to find if you don't know exactly where your going. Nice outdoor patio in season, dining room and private party room. The bar area is very nice too with plenty of TVs to catch the game while enjoying a couple brews and some excellent pizza. The deep dish is fantastic, extra points for the cornmeal crust. And you gotta love the sausage patty. Personal favorite is the meaty legend which is topped with said sausage, pepperoni, Canadian bacon, and bacon. Yep that's for types of pig for your grubbing pleasure. The thin crust is great too as are the sandwiches, but stick with the pizza that's what their known for. I've had the wings as an appetizer twice and both times the were small and a little undercooked. Service is just okay, but its a casual pizza place so you cant expect too much besides competence and accuracy. Overall great pizza, good atmosphere, nice patio, full bar, worth the wait for the deep dish.

Just visited this place yesterday on a long layover at O'Hare. This place is two stops away from the airport on the blue line at Cumberland Station. It's across the street from the Marriott. While this location lacks the ambiance of the two locations downtown (with the writing on the walls). It still offers up the best Chicago style pizza.

It seemed to be the closest "hearty" meal next to our hotel - the avenue hotel chicago. The fact that we've spent all day flying and sitting on shuttles, were reason enough for us to RUN around the corner, barge in, and declare "THREE PLEASE!" Cobb Salad -- Romaine, of course. Boiled egg, sure. Crumbled cheddar cheese, yep. Olives, great flavor. Honey Mustard Dressing to top it all off, absolutely delightful. Vegetable Minestrone -- Best thing to happen to three Southern California girls in 18-degree weather. Thin crust pizza -- Everyone requested that we "at least TRY" the deep-dish pizza, at least once. The flavors of thin-crust wasn't very impressive, so good thing we didn't do the deep-dish... it would've been flavorless dipped in oil. Fettuccini with spicy sausage & roasted peppers -- Spicy sausage was great. Roasted peppers were great. Fettuccini was rather dry. Everything ended on a good note when the waiter brought us two of HIS favorite cookies "to try." Chocolate Chip cookie was fantastic. And then it was back to 18-degree weather...

Got the sausage supreme pizza, Experienced Bliss. I have never had chicago pizza before and I really don't know why this isn't what pizza is everywhere else. The pizza was pricey, a small delivered was 32 bucks! I could only manage to eat half a small pizza at my hotel room. With a half of a pie left thats 15 bucks worth of the best pizza I'd had. Believe me, I thought about gorging myself, or leaving the pie for the cleaning crew. Neither sounded like a good idea. The other possibility? Put that pizza back it's box, wrap it in a plastic bag and securely nestle it amongst my clothes in my suitcase for the ride back. Fearing a TSA security breach I even checked my suitcase! When I got home to DC, I really expected to see a slaughterhouse inside my suitcase, believe it or not, a few tomatoes we stuck to the top of the box and that was it, I feasted on a real chicago pizza back at my DC apartment that night. Not only are these pizzas amazing, they are built like a tank!

Growing up in California, I didn't know pizza until I had a Chicago style pizza from Gino's. The food was great and atmosphere was really fun. I think tourists, such as myself, would enjoy a restaurant like Gino's.

I think it says something that years after a single visit I still dream of the deep dish pizza with the one piece of sausage. One from edge to edge. I need an excuse to return to Chicago.

The sausage on this pizza was the best I've had on any pizza. My first deep dish, and it wasn't all I imagined... but still good. We walked right in and sat right down... no wait. I'd eat here again.

All time great pizza! What is not to love about a sausage patty that fills your pizza! When I hit Chi-town, Gino's is a must stop!

Sorry but this was the worst pizza I have ever had and I waited an hour. I've had better frozen pizza and pizza from elementary school lunch line. The crust was the worst part so I'm not sure how this pizza has had good ratings when I decided the next day it was so bad I threw my left overs out after I tried to eat them and couldn't. So sad. So much for famous.

After trying Lou Malnati's I had some high expectations for Gino's East. In my opinion Gino's East is better. Pizza was A-MAZING! I loved the feel of the restaurant (dark wood, writing all over the walls, relaxed) and the service was outstanding!! A waiter at a restaurant in L.A. (who was originally from Chicago) recommended Gino's East to me and I almost feel like calling the restaurant and telling him I loved it!

My DH and I had a last minute trip to Chicago and we decided one night we would get delivery from Gino's. I had seen it on the Food Network show The Best Thing I Ever Ate and was excited to try it. To say the least...we were SOOOO disappointed. We started with the Garlic Sticks w/ Dip which were okay but nothing special. The marinara dip was super watery. I had the House Salad which was pretty basic, but the lettuce wasn't really all that fresh. I had the Spaghetti with meat sauce and it was okay, but I could have made the same thing at home. We also ordered the Deep Dish Sausage and Pepperoni Pizza...which was the biggest disappointment of all! It was like eating a soggy brick! Yuck! Can't believe this place was featured on Food Network!

I work close by and have occasionally "ordered ahead" so my pizza was ready when I got there. So far it has worked out well and the pizza was ready for us just after we sat down both times. The service here I would put at just ok, I like sitting outside when the weather is nice. The food, as all Chicagoans know, is among the best. It is my favorite pizza in the world, which says a lot as I am a pizza connoisseur. Would definitely recommend this place!

Lost my order after 30 minutes took 1.5 hrs to get my food. Once the pizza arrived it was watery. They didn't cooked it long enough. Worst pizza I've ever had.

This was my first introduction to Chicago Style Pizza and I was not at all disappointed. The pizza had the perfect amount of sauce, cheese, and toppings. I stuffed myself so much that I could barely walk after. The place itself is always really fun. Its really loud with music and people laughing. Then, your allowed to draw all over the place, minus a few key things like the TV. Its the perfect place to hang out with your friends. If I did have to say something bad about them it would be the service. I went with a huge group and they lost our reservation that we made in advance. Then when we showed up they didn't really know what to do with us. Instead of being nice and trying to figure it out they got huffy and wanted us to wait outside in the freezing cold. But after we worked it out ever thing was perfect.

I had eaten Gino's East deep dish pizza years ago, prior to going vegan. Just ate there with my family and was a little sad that I wouldn't be having pizza for dinner. I figured I'd only be able to have a salad. Not so! Was able to order a thin crust cheeseless pizza with lots of veggies & it was amazing! We were in a big group so we were given a back room to ourselves which was really nice, and great service & food! The only thing missing would be a little soy cheese for the vegans & anyone watching their cholesterol.

I always have expected so much more out of Gino's East. I really don't think their pizza is that great. The deep dish isn't bad, but their regular pizza isn't anything to write home about. Yesterday my date wanted to go here more than anything and she wanted thin crust. So in going with the flow of the evening I had a thin crust pizza. I knew I should have been alarmed when the waitress brought it to me only about 5 minutes after ordering it. If you ask me it was very undercooked, the cheese was white and blotchy not melted and golden. The service was great though as our cute waitress must have come by every 10 minutes to make sure we were doing okay. 3 stars for Gino's East.

When I first moved to Chicago, one of my first destinations was Pizzeria Uno's. After eating and enjoying this legendary pizza, I had to give Gino's a try. I ordered a mini deep dish with sausage and pepperoni and some bread sticks. I have to admit, the pizza was amazing. Better than Uno's. The one problem was the price. Although Gino's is good, the prices were almost insulting. At Uno's, I got a small, 4 topping deep dish, a salad and two beers for $18 after tip. At Gino's I got a small two topping deep dish, bread sticks and two beers for $47 after tip! Gino's pizza is better than Uno's in my opinion, but next time I want pizza I'm going to Uno's

It's a bit secluded and it can get pricey after a few sides but nonetheless, the deep dish is killer! Highly recommend for non-Chicagoans who want to taste chi-town style pizza.

I suppose I should preface this review by saying that I am not a huge fan of pizza... but being in Chicago I figured I couldn't go and not have pizza. The supreme deep dish was definitely good and the atmosphere is very interesting. There was definitely an eclectic mix of people. Overall it was good, not great but like I said before, I've never been a huge fan of pizza. The pitchers of beer made it worth it.

I have had dreams about this pizza. Seriously. There is a long running debate between myself and a Logan Squarer about whether this or Giordano's Pizza is in fact the best in town. He yells Gio's, I yell Gino's. Lets face it, in the end you can't go wrong either way. What I wouldn't would do for either of these joints to open a branch in Dallas.

First time at Ginos and likely gettig the most authentic Chicago style pizzaive ever had. Since then every time I go to Chicago I eventually go by a Ginos and think about getting some. Although it's a long wait 45 or so for the pizza to bake- it's worth it. I was unsure how I'd react to the thick slices with sauce on the top layer but I actually enjoyed it and have been back a couple times. Strangely always to this one as it's close to Schaumburg. Ginos seems iconic and fun to go to. It's a little heavy style of pizza compared to others but a great decadence.

  • George B.

Overall, a pretty good pizza place. This place is significantly better than the Giodanos located not that far away due to the fact it has better parking and a lot more seating. Pricewise, the deep dish is reasonable, but other items seem a bit overpriced.

    (4)
  • Jovia F.

This is the first location I had an experience with Ginos at and I've got to say I'm glad I gave another location a try. This particular Ginos seems to taste like Chef Boyardee is in the back making the sauce. Its kind of squishy and not the most exciting stuffed pizza. We also tried the fried calamari, which was tiny and pretty..."meh". Otherwise it was fairly good service and seemed pretty clean, which means a lot to me when Im eating pizza. I'd rather take the trek to Rolling Meadows or hope down to Lou's before I eat here again, though.

Traditional Chicago deep-dish pizza is why you go to Gino's and it's why you go to Chicago, right? Good pizza made with quality ingredients you can taste (cheeze, sauce, etc.) Cool place to sit down and eat (they let you write on the wall, chairs, etc.) but overall a little pricey.

I bought a groupon to try this place . Being from philadelphia I am partial to NY style pizza! Well I called to make reservation and preorder which was not a problem! So I thought . Got there gave my name and was told we have no one by your name with a reservation checked my phone called the right number and then they ask what did you order I told them and my reservation was under a guys name! Ok no biggie got taken to my table , ordered my drinks Rolando was fine got drinks ordered appetizer and got drinks. Then pizza comes out, not appetizer, so we put pizza on plates and take first bite pizza is warm not hot so we wait for server to come back he brings app we ask to have pizza warmed up it was just luke warm. Pizza come back 10 minutes later put on plates it's still only luke warm but pan is hot. So I throw in the towel ask for a box and check . Service was fine but as for pizza I don't have a lot to say about it! Lou's has nothing to worry about! As for manager should have been told and table touched and brought pizza back out ! From time of phone in to arriving at restaurant was only 17 minutes and figuring out who I was another 5 so why was pizza only warm???? Yeah wont be going back! Thank goodness for Groupons!!!!

This is some good deep dish pizza. it has its own unique taste to it. It comes closest to Lou's deep dish. I have only ate in once on the patio and it was lovely. There a fountain and ample seating with quick servers. Theres a lunch special at this location. There are coupons located in the entertainment book as well.

The only place to get pizza in Chicago as far as I'm concerned. Whereas most places out on the left coast think BJ's is a deep dish pizza, Gino's makes monsters compared to those weaklings. Be prepared for a feast and a half, as a small deep dish is thick enough and big enough to feed three or four people comfortably (or maybe even a small army). Plus, the whole atmosphere is very irreverent and fun. Bottom line, Gino's is an institution of dining that shouldn't be missed whilst you're in Chicago.

  • Scott J.

Fantastic cornmeal crust and yummy toppings! This my first real Chicago deep dish pizza experience. It was excellent! Only down side was the 45 minute wait but this is typical due to the long cooking times required for deep dish pizzas. Now have to try against Pizza Uno and Lou Malnati's. One thing I like is that Gino's stands by their pizza reputation. If you find another local Chicago deep dish pizzaria that you think is better, Gino's will refund your money double! Amazing. Shows that they take pride in their pizza. Definitely tasty pizza pie!

this was my first meal in chicago. we were brought here by a couple locals who also brought with them a challenge- to eat as many pieces as we could before passing out or going to the hospital. i made it through 4 pieces- had i know there was going to be an eating competition i would not have had two glasses of southern comfort at the hotel and a pitcher of beer... or the sampler platter along with dinner. i thought the pizza was good, but i didn't consider it THAT unique. maybe chicagoans need something to hang on to. san diego will ALWAYS have it's mexican food. so hey, i see where you're coming from.

If you want a great deep dish pizza go to Lou Malnati's, but if you want a good one with a shorter wait go to Gino's. Overtime I have started to like them equally, but the corn meal crust isn't for everyone. Never order the thin crust. It really is awful. It's not that thin, and it is tough as cardboard.

This was my first try at Chicago Styple Pizza in Chicago. Granted, I frequent Zachary's which is our Bay Area version of deep-dish pizza but I wanted to taste the real deal. Ginos is pretty good. We ordered the cheese and sausage-- they definitely don't skimp on their ingredients, which was a big plus. I love their cornmeal crust but I didn't like the fact that the pizza was a little doughey. Also, I was expecting more of a whole in a wall but what we found was a little on the Disneyland-type side--touristy and cheesy (no pun intended).

I haven't tried the original Gino's East but since they opened up close to my workplace, I figured it'd be a good reason to go and try the goods. My first visit was a pretty big disappointment. Service was fine and there was plenty of seating and minimal wait. However, the pizzas served really had nothing that sets them apart from any other pizzaria. The rest of the menu was fairly bland and the salads at times seem overpriced. Maybe Gino's didn't match my own personal tastes but I would be hesitant to bring anyone here for a true Chicago pizza experience.

. This was an informal B-day party of sorts for my son so we got a nice long table that had bench on one side and chairs on the other, worke beautifully because the bench was tall enough that my little guy didnt need a booster. The Food was good. We had spinach sticks as an appetizer. the 4 cheese thin crust came next which was good and then the veggie deep dish which had like 8 veggies came last. which was somwhere in between okay and good. The thing that i couldnt stand was when the deep dish came out a woman other than our waitress brought it out and she wouldn't let us serve ourselves even though we were all capable. I guess that's their policy to avoid a giant deep dish slice from falling and causing a big mess or seriously injuring an eater ,(death by hot pizza sauce splatter) just a completely unnecessary rule that sort of dampened things for me. She was juggling the piece in one hand while struggling to hack the cheese strands with the serving utensil, and while she did this the tips of her very nasty and very long fingernails were scraping the back of the crust carving little etchings into the piece that would be slayed in my honor. The plates were very small so maybe that contributed also but it just grossed me out. I could barely eat after that. This chick was young, hurried and seemed like someone forced her to come over and assume the cheese hacking role. We didnt ask you to come to the table so just stay in the back and garnish the plates or make sure theres enough straws or whatever, just dont come in and try to do me any favors with your Lee Press-ons. Its a shame because our waitress was really good and the guys who served the water and stuff were all really good. In other circumstances this place would be a 3-4..

Okay the pizzas pretty good. But we waited for over an hour for our pizza. I'm entertaining five guests, and I saw my waiter twice? Unacceptable. The one closer to my home is MUCH better. Pass.

Very good authentic CHicago deep dish. Couldn't finish it but made for good leftovers. Good atmosphere, good beer specials.
