Sweet sandwich shop right in my new neighborhood! Large subs to share with someone you like. The Big L is awesome and you have to get the hot gardinera.

Good sandwiches. The bread is what makes it great. I like the badabing with giardiniera. The Italian beef is ok. I go here from time to time. Good neighborhood joint.

Just had a nice tuna sub from here. TASTY! Nice clean friendly place. Just what you want from a neighborhood sub place. I don't like having to feed the meter on 95th. Call first. Run in. Grab food. No meter. I haven't had a bad sub from here. They are generous with all things between the bread. Check it out. You won't regret it.

Sandwiches are great, but the employees I came across were pretty unpleasant. Barely acknowledged I was in there for about 10 minutes and not more than 3 words came out of their mouths.

Decent place to get a big sandwich with a bunch of sliced, porky, spicy, reddish Italian meats you might not have heard of before mixed with a bunch of sliced, porky, spicy, reddish Italian meats you have heard of before. And sometimes that's just exactly what you need.

So walking into Fontano's in the south-side suburb of Beverly for lunch today, I encountered the following crowd: 2 old-timers eating soup and reading the paper, 2 police officers ordering food and chatting up the employees, 2 blue-collar workers taking their lunch break, and a couple of businessmen in suits grabbing a quick lunch--pretty typical for a south side Italian deli, eh? Based on the crowd, I knew this place had to be good. And....it was. Nothing special, nothing fancy, just a good, old-fashioned, hearty sub. Get it with everything and you won't be disappointed. The food here is probably 3.5 stars, but I'll round down to 3 stars because of a pretty blah dining area.

Solid food. Meat on bread. With cheese. There's also some tuna (and OK) chicken salad. I'm on a chicken salad kick right now. Can't even explain it. The atmosphere is comfortable enough for a spot right on 95th Street. Didn't realize this was a chain until checking on Yelp! - which is a good thing since it really seems to fit the South [Sox] Side/Beverly area. Yeah, they got some of those azz hot pepper for your sam'mich, if you want them. But why go that route? Enjoy your food and don't set your stomach on fire.

Another great quality sub. Always fresh, always high quality meats and soft bread. The staff is always pleasant even when you order many sandwiches with hot or mild, provalone or american, onion or tomatos. I fax my orders in and list the person's name by their sandwich. Then I pick them up an hour later. It is easy to feed 20 people! They have a few table for guests, but this is a take-out place.

pretty good italian subs... extremely messy to eat, especially when you get everything on it. they also have soups, not-homemade tiramisu, and a few other italian deli type items (meats, jardiniere, pasta, etc.. nothing too exciting though). not the cheapest subs in the world, though a 12" is easily two meals (12" "Big L" is just over $10ish).
