This review is based solely on my TO-GO experience. Boyfriend & I ordered a veggie burger and turkey club with bacon to go. It was busy this afternoon, so we expected to wait a bit for it. So we waited.. and waited..and waited. We were there for almost an HOUR before our food was brought out. We left before checking it, BIG MISTAKE ON OUR PART. The breads were wrong, his bacon was missing, and you can tell they forgot about our food because the bun was so soggy, it was falling apart in my hands. My boyfriends soup was cold, his sandwich was too soggy to hold up as well. Not even the free O.J they tossed in for making us wait so long could help this train wreck of a meal.

I ordered from here on a Sunday morning for our food to be picked up. We got biscuits and gravy, an ole skillet with toast, and an order of soup. The women on the phone told us it would be ready in 10 minutes. So we get there 15 minutes later, we pay and they tell us it will be out in 2 minutes. After standing there for an addition 15 minutes we start getting mad and say something it takes another 5 minutes to get our food. Why tell us it's gonna be 10 minutes and it takes longer then 40? So we get in the car and start driving as I'm checking the bag they didn't give us soup. At this point I'm so annoyed I call to complain and all the women says on the phone is well do you know who you spoke to that said 10 minutes? After 2 minutes of complaining she finally apologizes. We get home and there is no toast (along with no soup) and the eggs in the skillet aren't even cooked. We have ate here and ordered from here multiple times but this will be the last time! Be warned!

Excellent breakfast great juice and the server Heather was awesome. I would recommend to anyone. Happy to have Elly's in the neighborhood.

The first time we went here we had a terrible experience attributed to the waitress that we had. The owner paid for the meal for us but since then we have been several times and it was always very good including the service, Nothing in particular to mention other than the double yolk eggs which are pretty cool.

Wasn't a big fan for my first visit. Food seemed tasteless and not fresh. The second experience was to-go. I got a Patty Melt! Now that was worth it! Awesome taste. Buttery. Fresh Burger. Great Come back. Maybe when I try it again ill give it another star.

My fiancé and I just had an extremely unpleasant experience at the Jefferson Park location. Unfortunately, it wasn't our first! The food was disappointing, first of all. I had Corned Beef Hash and Eggs. The corned beef hash was the same thing I could have gotten from a can at the grocery store, and the hash browns were either completely burnt or very soggy. My fiancé ordered the salmon special for $14.99, and while the fish was ok, the menu claimed there would be lemon on it. Nope! Also, she received two pieces of broccoli and three small pieces of carrot as her "mixed veggies." In other words, the portion was lacking. With my fiancé's dinner, a side of sausage links and a Coke, our bills came to $34 before tip. Frankly, what we got was not worth the money. Also, the customer service was severely lacking. Our waitress, while very pleasant, either slammed the plates on the table or almost dropped hot soup on my fiancé! Then, we had a to-go box that we accidentally left behind. We were back within 90 seconds and were told too bad, your food is gone. No apologies or offer of anything to make up for the lost food--nothing but a bad taste in our mouths for the establishment. Sadly, my problems with the food and customer service at Elly's were repeats--in smaller doses, to be fair--of my other three visits. We were excited about this location opening in our neighborhood, but have only been disappointed with the results. I will not be going back.

I've been to the elly's on cumberland many times and its been very good. However, I've been to this location twice and both times ive been told it would be a 10 15 minute wait, BOTH times large parties of 5 or more walked in and were sat at tables within 5 minutes. The one time we actually got a seat after waiting for over 30 minutes, we waitied another 30 and the waitress STILL hadn't been to our table. We ended up leaving without ever seeing the waitress. This place is terrible, bad service all around.

We loved it. Food and service were great. And they did an excellent job of accommodating our two - year - old daughter. Whatever problems they may have been having in the early going, I think they worked them out. We'll definitely be back.

I have been waiting to see what would replace the old Blue Angel. Our waitress sucked, but the food was good. Although we just had no idea what to get due to the large 2 menu's given, we asked Loyda our waitress for recommendations, she had none. When asked what type of soup was on the menu, she said "lemon, chicken something like that". It was lunch so my husband and I had each a plain grilled cheese sandwich, we ended up making it easy. How she managed to mess it up was baffling me. She never asked what kind of cheese we wanted, or what type of bread. The waitress was not helpful at all. When we ordered a soup we were not asked cup or bowl, she assumed bowl, when ordered our grill cheese she assumed again, she figued I wanted it brought out separate, wrong again. We were CONSTANTLY having to ask other servers for refill on our water and coffee, even though she kept passing us by a million times. I would love to say my 1st experience was great but Loyda made it extremely hard after we payed and she didn't even say "thanks or have a good day". Maybe if she wasn't gossiping to the other waitress she may have been attentive to litteraly her ONLY TABLE.

The first time I went here both the service and food was excelent. I left raving about it to everyone. The second time was just.... average. The food was good, but no where near as good as the first time. The service was acceptable. A few weeks ago I went a third time. On first we waited over 15 minutes for a waitress to come to our table. Once she did she was very attentive through out the meal so I let it go. The food this time was pretty good. No complaints. However once she gave us the check we waited over 20 minutes for her to come back and get it so we could leave. I even asked another waitress to get ours and it still just never happened. The manager was no where in site. Ive been here a couple more times and its hit or miss. So far the food had always been acceptable. It's the service that it questionable. I have only had one great experience with the service and that was my first visit. And side note... don't order a side of fruit. It's like 5 bucks for three small slices of melon. I could buy three full for that much.

Great breakfast place. Every time I go here, the service is fast, food is great, and you can't go wrong with a wide variety menu to choose from for a breakfast/lunch place. The weekends get crowded, but that's a great problem to have for a restaurant!

  • Debbie L.

Super busy Sunday morning, but the turn over of tables was pretty quick. The pancakes were good and so were the eggs but skip the sausage patties unless you like really bland patties. Order the hash browns with onions and cheese, oh man what a difference. We will be back.

  • Pete V.

Great addition to Jefferson park. The food was a typical breakfast food. The pancakes were pretty good. The place is new and clean, however something seemed missing in the dining room (very vanilla like). The service could have been better. However they have been opened less than a week so I gave them a break on that. Definitely I would go back to give them another try. The best part of the place was their fresh bakery section, very nice touch.

  • Ed M.

Everyone told me it was a new restaurant and better then the Blue Angel. Ordered the spinach and feta omelette with Greek toast. What a solid breakfast and my dish must have had a quarter pound of feta. The service was quick and my server, Cecilia, was uber nice. I'd come back for sure.

  • Brooke T.

I love that another 24 hour breakfast restaurant has opened up where the old Blue Angel used to be which was a staple in Jefferson Park. This Ellys is delicious however the service is a little slow however I'm thinking maybe because it just opened and the servers are learning. It is nice and clean in here and there is a cute little bakery in the back where you can stop in for coffee, smoothies & a baked good.

My wife had the OPA! salad at the Jefferson Park location on January 14th, and was up all night with food poisoning. Be careful when ordering a salad. The service was good and the place was clean, but we won't be going back.

I had the lox bagel. I was pretty impressed. Loved the Salmon, it didn't have that real Smokey taste to it, which I am not a fan of. The cucumbers need to be sliced a little thinner. The slices are really thick, that goes for the tomato´s and red onion slices too. They also give a nice serving of salmon, 3 slices worth. Overall, not bad.

  • Nikki E.

I was so excited to have a 24 hour joint come to the neighborhood. However, besides the convenience factor I have to give them 2 stars. I came here on multiple occasions trying to give them a fair chance. Their fries never seemed cooked enough, the soup tasted like dirty water, the WATER tasted metallic, and the pancakes are crispy rather than fluffy. I feel like my wallet got robbed. The portions are f****** awful! I paid almost $9 for TWO pancakes, two dried pieces of bacon, ONE sausage link, a glass of juice that was gone in just a few sips and some eggs. No refills on juice either and it was smaller than a children's drink :(. The prices and food are terrible but the service has been good/ok. They seem to forget about you after they bring your food so if you want refills, or to order additional food or drinks, you're out of luck. If you're like me and need a 24 hour place that's affordable and tastes a hell of a lot better, go to the IHOP on Cicero.

Love this place. Our kids love it too. Great food. Super friendly. Welcome to the neighborhood.

Today my girlfriend and I waited 20 minutes til we got any service here. Well, no, someone did pour us coffee earlier, but we didn't have cream so it just sat there getting cold while the guy who said he would bring some got lost in the kitchen or something. This was well after the brunch rush so the restaurant wasn't even busy. The food was good but the service was nothing short of crappy. They seem to cater more to old people and families. Young couples do not get good service. Last time we were here we tipped the bus boy 20 dollars who provided excellent service in comparison to our waiter who only took our order and did nothing else. Today we did not even have a waitress. A young lovely Hispanic lady took our order after it seemed like we were getting ready to leave she asked us if we were ready to order. Even though it was not her section to wait on us. All the white waitress and waiter seem to good to take our order. I feel this would be twenty times better if bus boys got permoted to waiters. And the waiters and waitress got fired all besides the young Hispanic lady.

We had been to Elly's when they first opened up and were disappointed, slow service, cold food not done properly, However, we decided to give them another chance a couple of weeks ago. Huge improvement. The service was wonderful - attentive without being intrusive. Food was hot, delicious and plentiful. So happy they got things straightened out. We will definitely be back. Nice to see a good restaurant in the area. The only small problem is that they could use some noise deadening decor as it is hard to talk at the table.

    (5)
  • Ralaina B.

To me Elly's is just an updated version of Blue Angels. There's a difference in the decor, which could use a little bit of help, but other than that the food reminded me a lot of the previous restaurant. 2 star because the food was good. Everything was cooked right, the fries were yummy, the steaks were perfect, and my daughter LOVED the croissant from the bakery. But the service left something to be desired. It was later at night and not that busy and yet the waitress took forever in getting everything. She also walked away before my daughter could order (not paying attention I guess) and she brought my dinner before my salad was even half way gone so my dinner sat there and got cold while I tried to hurry up and finish. We were the fifth table in the whole restaurant and three had already got up to leave so I'm not sure what the problem was. She did how ever have time to chat with a friend that walked in instead of getting us drink refills. I really want to go back so hopefully we get a different server and have a better experience.

Still new, but very disorganized. Service and training is poor. Management must take some time to set expectations and train. People are going to give the place 1-2 opportunities at best, so the clock is ticking.

So this place has been open for a while now and you can get a good meal there at times. The main problem is consistency and ethics when the restaurant is busy. I had started to notice the issues when the place gets busy and the last time was the last straw. First they gave us filthy water glasses with actual streaks of another beverage and lipstick marks on them. I don't even know what they were thinking, who isn't going to say something about that? The skirt steak which is actually decent when they are not busy was ordered medium well and brought out absolutely raw and the side pancakes were clearly already cut into with a knife as if they were sent back from another table. At that point I was already disappointed because this place is so close and convenient. The manager came to the table and told me that she would take off the steak from the bill. Keep in mind I did not ask her to do that. However, she didn't do that, she merely gave me a "police discount" off the meal which turned out to be about a $6 discount not the $14 cost of the steak. I just laughed at that point due to the fact that I didn't even ask to have the steak removed from the bill it was offered. I think ethics are important in this type of business. I will take a restaurant that just says sorry about the delay rather than give you dirty dishes because they couldn't keep up with the washing, mistakes are fine... cutting corners and being dirty is not.

  • Valerie O.

I was excited to try the new place in the neighborhood. The service was good but the food was not. I ordered a burger medium and it came out burnt, totally overdone and almost inedible. I thought the prices were high also, over $9 for a chicken sandwich. The waitress was excellent. Too bad the food was meh.

  • Tito S.

Avoid this place on Sundays its crazee busy!! Otherwise the service was very fast and friendly..the food itself was no different that Ihop or Dennys..prices were a little on the high side..but overall not bad

  • Margaret A.

Ellys was ok for the most part. I dont like the idea that they list how much you should tip on your bill. 22% is a bit out of line as one of the choices. Most people know how much to tip and its also based on service. Prices are a bit high I thought. Probably won't be going there on a regular basis.

  • Lauren D.

This breakfast/brunch diner has many good choices on their menu (including some gluten-free and vegetarian options). However, I am giving them three stars because the parking lot is a pain to deal with, and the service was worthy of only two stars. Our food took a bit to arrive at our table. Their buttermilk pancakes are light, fluffy and dusted off with white powdered sugar. Their pancakes receive five stars. I like their breakfast burrito which is filled with scrambled eggs, chorizo, green, red peppers and onions. They have several other locations as Elly's Pancake House is a franchise, but I like it soooo much better than the other franchises out there (such, as the I-HOP). I am a huge breakfast fan. We enjoy trying different places especially on weekends. After my husband went on a bike race Saturday morning, and I did a mini-marathon race we both worked up a hearty appetite and ended up here. We thought the service was lacking a bit. Yes, the food was good, but we will not be stopping here again. Next weekend, we are hitting up Tre-Kroner's (one of our many favorite breakfast joints).

Elly's, meet Jeff park. Jeff Park, meet Elly's. I'm sure you both will get on splendidly. If my experience there this morning is any indication, yours will be a healthy and fruitful relationship. Completely (and thankfully!) gone is the hellish sewer smell that permeated throughout the previous attempts at greasy spoon-ism. The place looks great, smells fresh, and has an overwhelmingly welcome feeling that was certainly missing from previous incarnations at that address. Service was ultra prompt and incredibly friendly. Crayons and coloring pages brought for the kids to keep them occupied. I thought I recognized some of the smiling faces from the Cumberland location, which is good. Food was dynamite and what I've come to expect from other Elly's locations. It was super busy, and you can tell under the surface they're still trying to get a solid routine down, but it in no way affected the experience. Glad to see people out en masse to support this new neighborhood hangout and I hope it can sustain the 24 hour service. I'm thinking the only other 24 hour joint near here is wherever the nearest Golden Nugget is. Blech. Do yourself a favor: corral the family and head on over to Elly's for a tremendous breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Give em a "welcome to the neighborhood" while you're at it. You won't be disappointed.

Mediocre at best...long waiting time to get food which is only so so...way to expensive for breakfast in this area...I was surprised to see it so crowded...probably won't be back anytime soon

OMG!!!! Came in late night, staff was exceptionally warm and welcoming! Greeted by manager/owner gentleman & we were treated like family. We ordered skirt steak & eggs & a spartan omelet. Food came out fast and delicious! Karen was our server, she was awesome!!! We will definitely be back soon.

the service at elly's is top notch. the hostess is welcoming and the staff are organized in seating their patrons even on a very busy sunday morning. our waitress was very efficient and checked on us several times. my eggs benedict was really delicious and i would have given this place an extra star or two if only i didn't find a hair under my hash browns. what a breakfast buzz kill. too bad.

I was very satisfied with my experience. No problem with service, and we enjoyed our meal. Want to acknowledge appreciation, as my wallet fell into the booth and I left it behind. The waitress found it and it was kept secure until I realized it was missing and picked it up. THANK YOU!!

So happy to have a neighborhood joint for weekend breakfast. Too bad it's just average. Pluses--walk-up bakery, juices, smoothies, coffee, fruit. Minuses--boring, drab, all-brown decor; pancakes that taste like repurposed muffin batter--sweet and they fall apart. We're desperate here on the NW side for a breakfast spot, so be prepared to wait.

  • Kate P.

When there is nothing opened nearby , Elly's seems like a good option. Bicentennial crepes are too sweet and 'heavy'. Service is decent. The place offers a variety of ingredients for omelettes which are great. I prefer Wildberry.

  • Russell E.

First time here and everything was great from the egg and ham omelet to the French toast to the jam that tasted like it was homemade. If you live in the area it is a no brainer and if you have to travel a little it is well worth the trip. Outstanding service very clean and don't miss the bakery. Lincoln Park and Wicker Park so long we have replaced you!

  • Renaud S.

Let's go straight to the point: if you love good brunches and huge portions, this is where you should go. Everything there is good, omelettes, crepes, waffles, salads, pancakes... pick up whatever you want on the menu and I am sure you will not be disappointed! Service is good but unfortunately, food came slowly. Also, their "fresh squeezed orange juice" is not freshly squeezed, or they mixed it with water... but it didn't tasted at all like a freshly squeezed orange juice.

The best brunch place on Milwaukee, so far. The place is clean, spacious and timely. The food is good (a bit salty eggs) but they serve large portions. Burgers look thick and each special has a unique flare to it. It can be a bit pricy for per plate ($10ish) but the portions and quality of the food make up for it. Their regular coffee is not very good but they offer gourmet coffee (recommended). I would def come back again just for the pancakes, best in area; 2nd best on my pancake list. Pros: -large portions (worth the $$) -spacious atmosphere/no crowd (noon, Wednesday) -very friendly staff -good food selection (pineapple omelet, gourmet burgers) -clean, clean, clean :) Cons: -regular coffee is bad (better off with espresso, or juice) - a little pricey -eggs can be a little too salty

came here with a big group of friends.. we were seated right away.. service was good.. food came out a little slow... i ordered a "create your own omelette" .. added basically every meat option they had and some mushrooms.. i thought the food was quite bland.. had to use a lot of hot sauce haha.. we all also shared a few orders of biscuit with gravy.. i never had it before and i thought it was pretty good.. i dont know... elly's feels and seem to be like a Dennys or a normal diner except it closes earlier to me ...

Hubby's work fleet was in need of an oil change at the nearby Firestone, so I threw in an idea of having a breakfast together. I've seen Elly's Pancake House on Milwaukee Ave. within the Gladstone Corner. I visited an Elly's location on Cumberland in the O'Hare neighborhood last year. I remember there was a plenty of vegetarian options for my husband who refrains from consuming meat and meat by-products. Perfect! Let's head over there! There wasn't too much going on on a snowy Monday morning in late March. The server, Giovanni, quickly introduced himself and commented on the Mother Nature, "What a beautiful weather we are having today!" Now that Chicagoans have "sampled" the spring season in the early March this year. Unfortunately, that sample hasn't yet turned into an "entree" format. I guess we can't have a full-bite of Spring...at least not at this moment. Anyways, having a hearty breakfast has nothing to do with the condition outside. We were offered coffee immediately (one of the checklists initialed). Hence, it was time for us to decided what we wanted. I had the stuffed French Toast with blueberries, and hubby went with the Southwestern Fritata with pancakes on the side. I usually an omelet or skillet kind of person, but I changed it up for something new, like how I dress on my days off! Omelets and skillets are typically rendered in generous portions at Elly's. Thus, if you're hungry, I recommend you make your selections from one of these categories so that you're content with what you have in your stomaches. My French stuffed toasts were rather savory than sweet, which was what I preferred. They did douse an ample amount of blueberries on top. Overall, we were satisfied with the tastes of the food and the service we received from Mr. Giovanni. This location has one of the cleanest restrooms I've seen in any restaurant recently (yes, you need gamble on using public facilities in the city of Chicago when you're dining in). So thank you and keep up the good work. I know their yelp rating isn't high enough to stand out in the crowd, but based on my experience this morning, I would say it's safe to try it out.

The food is good, but they always manage to screw up my take out. Ordered cherry cheese blintzes with a side of corned beef hash. Got home only to realize that the corned beef hash was plain hash browns. Called them, they were nice and apologetic and they offered to make me a new side of corned beef hash. Drove there again, got my replacement dish, only to get home and discover that there was NO cheese in my cheese blintzes and they had also forgot my side of fruit. Messing up 2 out of 2 of my items is plain unprofessional. Does no one really check the orders? Safe to say I am not going there again.

The croissants are wonderful, but the juice bar was kind of gross. They didn't take the seeds out of the apples, just chucked the whole thing in there.

I really like the food here. So far I have had the Santa Fe chicken sandwich and the two egg special with sausage patties, pancakes and hash browns. Everything was delightful. I think I was most impressed with the friendliness of the staff. They make sure to check on you without being annoying......even when it's not their table.

Arrived and my party was seated quickly. The service is disastrous; they messed up my order and didn't even offer anything. I've been a long time customer but locations has made me stay away from ellys

One morning, while in Chicago, I ended up at Elly's Pancake House. The restaurant was jammed packed however, because of the size of our party, we were seated immediately. I'm sure that must have left a sour taste in some people's mouths however, I understand the logic because smaller parties have more seating options while larger parties have to take whatever comes their way. Anyway, as busy as the restaurant was, service was surprisingly acceptable. I don't remember her name but she was bustin' her buns. She wasn't lollygagging around; I remember looking at her shoes and thinking to myself, no matter how comfortable they were, she was going to be sore at the end of her shift. And even with how larger her station was, she was still fairly attentive, friendly and patient with us. As for the food, I went with the Special Club # 1. Chilled juice, two pancakes, two eggs, two strips of bacon and sausage link. Everything cooked as requested and the apple juice I ordered made me believe that the glass was chilled in a cooler because it was nice and cold. My overall thoughts - neighborhood place where a lot of people seemed to know one another, including the staff. Decent food with decent prices. Good service with hard working, friendly people. Nothing gourmet, but definitely okay.

The food here is just so good! The restaurant is clean the servants are nice. I have never had anything that's not delicious here. I love to come here and have a cup of coffee, enjoying my favorite brunch.

Cozy place, delicious food, nice service! I come here almost every week, and I'll order their pancake every time. My must-order suggestion is the country fired steak. It is not to dry and not to MEATY. With a side dish of fruit (if you are a healthy person) or simply hash browns, you will find the most simple happiness here. Anyways, I love this place and I'll be here every week.

Previously frequented the Arlington Heights location, we were glad to see an expanded location in Jefferson Park this March. The service was excellent, from hostess to runners to two waitresses. All were very friendly and accommodating. Loita and Tanya were especially sweet, attentive and professional. The venue is very large and able to accommodate immediately at 10am on a Sunday morning, though it was quite busy. The place is very clean. We had the Spartan Omelette and Eggs Benedict. Both were very good and large portions. Lots of left overs! Very impressed with the operation. We will be back!

I can't put my finger on why I minorly prefer the food so far from Blue Angel, but I dunno if it's the nostalgia talking in me, the fact you could smoke there(RIP pre-smoking ban days), or whatever. Anyway, my first visit here wasn't too bad, but the pancake dish I got minorly disappointed me some. It wasn't totally terrible, but I was expecting slightly better. It isn't too bad though, since I did try a few bites of what others got, and they weren't bad, but of course didn't blow me away. Then again it is just a diner, so I'm not expecting the highest standards in the world. I'd really like to try one of the juices, if I do come back here. They have a take out food and juice area in the back(prob for commuters to call in an order to go, and park in the lot and pick it up), and did clean up the interior and bathrooms a little bit from the Blue Angel days, which I did appreciate. I remember liking the German Pancake after I went to the North and Clark Elly's after it opened, so I'm crossing my fingers that my future visits are better here. ETA: IIRC, I think they're only 24/7 on Wednesday or Thursday through Saturday, and close after a certain time(midnight?) from Sunday through Tuesday or Wednesday. Once I'm sure of the hours, I'll do an edit to this yelp review page.

I ordered waffles with strawberries and whip cream. The first time I noticed that the strawberries were going bad so I asked to send it back and to possibly get a different package of strawberries with the next order. Server brings it back and AGAIN strawberries taste rancid. I tell the server, the strawberries are still bad, I don't want the plate, sorry. I get the bill and sure enough I see "strawberry waffles with whip" KIDDING ME?!

I'm so angry with you right now Elly! You were my go to breakfast place. But lately the service has been disastrous. The last 2 times it has been the same waitress. But I wont give up on you sweetie. For everyone else... A modern, clean and yummy place. Nice sized lot so parking is never an issue. The host or hostess is always so nice. Large dinning area so my wait time has never been long. And they have a bakery on location. This is the kind of place where awesome service can make an average place great. But when you do end up with bad service then this place is just as ordinary as every other breakfast joint. I hope to improve this rating. You are my neighborhood place so I need you to come through for me. If not, my next step is just doing carry out to eventually not doing anything at all. : (

Disappointed. This place has not met expectations. Too bad. I was hoping for a positive change but other Yelper's concerns are happening with frequency. Now this place is not open 24/7. Why not? Your guess is as good as mine. Maybe a complete change in management is in order. Perhaps get some staff from the Cumberland location. I really want this place to succeed.

Really good food. Great variety... Lots of options. OJ is orgasmic btw (Must have) The service is pretty good as well. Everything is clean and location is excellent (IMO) Really enjoyed this place in the summer time when I could get a great meal late at night... These "Winter Hours" SUCK tho. It's June and you're only open till 4? SMH 3 Stars for the lame hours. Guess I'll go to Golden Nugget! -_-

I was impressed with this place! Came here the day after Christmas and were seated promptly. They have a wonderful selection of FRESH JUICES and you can make any combination your heart desires. I had a beet-ginger-orange thing and it was healthfully tasty. I also had a salmon salad, very nice. My fiance had stuffed french toast that he reported to be yummy as well. I was impressed with the quality and variety of food (example: salad did not contain hard watery cores only of iceberg lettuce, but ACTUAL leafy greens with radicchio and frisee!). I'll come back fo sho!

Four stars instead of three tocounter the wack faux foodie reviews. Thesis a breakfast place not Alinea. Place is well lit, we'll laid out. There is a nice juice bar in the back that serves fresh wheatgrass and other juices including, there are also bakery goods. The service is excellent, even when they are slammed. The food is standard American breakfast fare, but it is above average in quality, and taste. There is no better breakfast this side of town. This is the reason there is sometimes a 45 minute to one hour wait on the weekends.

  • Jenny D.

I love this place! I live in the area and I'm so glad it's here because we don't have too many options for breakfast/brunch. My husband and I come here almost every weekend. Sundays, expect to wait, but I come from Wicker Park and Ravenswood where you wait anywhere for breakfast/lunch on Sundays, so I'm used to it. They try and get people seated as soon as they can. The chorizo breakfast burrito is SO good. My husband orders that all the time and I always get plate envy. I like the chipotle chicken salad(it's always on the special menu). They are generous with the avocado. I get one of their freshly made juice concoctions every time, as well. The apple beet is my favorite. We've always had good service and the servers are very friendly. They are only open until 4pm now. They used to be 24 hours. Their new hours blow, because there's times I'd love to get that salad for dinner, but I'm not geriatric, so I don't eat dinner at 3pm. Sigh.

Mmmmm.... Another food trip with the best in and let me say Ellys Pancake House did not disappoint. We had the create your own skillet. Corn beef hash, ham, bacon, and American cheese with over easy eggs on top. Let me say "OMG" orgasmic in my mouth. It's very hard to find great places with good breakfast. Customer service was good even though it was busy.

ATTN: ...This is NOT like the other Elly's you have heard about. Service here is good, but of the three times that we went there for breakfast, only once did we get the hot meal we ordered. That's right, folks, it's a gamble if you get your breakfast warm. We ordered the Hawaii 5-0 omlette and the Blueberry pancakes. The one good time(second visit) was VERY GOOD. The first and third times, everything was BARELY WARM, and the blueberries, instead of nice and warm actually tasted like they were just thawed out and slapped on the pancakes. I dunno how many others experienced this but the only reason we came back for a third attempt was because the great breakfast we got the second time. The Hawaii 5-0 omlette was barely warm, to the point that you could actually taste cold pineapple and ham. I don't know how they pulled that off, but they did it. My wife didn't want to complain, but I couldn't take this incompetence in preparing and putting a nice warm meal for the paying customer. She wants to try it again. This time I will tell the order taker to make sure the meal is warm enough to be edible. A shame this has to be done but if that doesn't resolve the problem, I'll just never go there again. A real shame... FOR US, FOOD WAS COLD TWO OUTTA THREE VISITS!

We've been to the Elly's on Cumberland a handful of times and love it. We were excited when we discovered one was opening super close to us. I've been in twice now. Both times the service was painfully slow. Excruciating. Today was even worse. I had a skillet with eggs over medium. We waited 25 minutes for our food only for it to come to us and my yolks were hard and the cheese in the skillet solidified and cold. Totally gross. I would have sent it back but at that point the kids were antsy and we didn't have time to wait another half hour. Our waitress brought me a refill of my tea... but it was diet coke. Then she disappeared for like 20 minutes when we needed our check. It's really disappointing because we were so excited this place was opening. Twice might be about it for me.

I have to admit coming here on a busy Saturday, the staff did a wonderful job. We didn't wait long for our table (and the manager accommodated my request of a booth, yes it's the little things) and we didn't wait long for our food either. I ordered a spartan omelette and my omelette wasn't dry...(awesome job). The staff was kind enough to surprise the birthday girl with her birthday Sunday and along with the staff and manager sang her a happy birthday. What a great way to start her birthday!

Hungry for a giant pile of egg mush shaped like football? Try an omelette! In all fairness...the daily soups are generally very good and the turkey club is terrific. Service is hit or miss. Our rule: if the wait for a table is longer than 5min, we go across the street to 4 Hermanos instead....they never disappoint.

Every time we eat here they mess something up. The food is delicious but I can't handle the screw ups anymore. Today I ordered nutella crepes with extra nutella. They are supposed to come with with banana and pecan. I received them without the banana and pecan. So frustrated with them. At this point you will be losing a customer.

Bummed about their new hours. I would frequently order out for dinner and now I can't. New hrs are 6am - 4pm. It's still worth coming here for breakfast for their huge portions. 3 stars for the hours.

Great quality food, its a bit packed all the time, but the service is good, but plan to wait ten minutes to be seated. I have ordered the eggs Benedict, love their sauce, portion sizes are huge. My wife gets an omelette, always has left overs the next day. I do with you get a side fruit with other items than just the Benedict dishes. Pancakes are really good. Wife liked the coffee. We go once a month, we will go back.

Blue Angel is gone folks, it'll never come back and that bizarre Ukrainian discotheque-bar it turned into at the end is gone too. But let's be honest, the only thing that place had going for it was the location. Elly's took the Blue Angel location and brought it into the new century. The interior, while no longer a perfectly preserved 70's diner is bright, airy, open and pleasant. They capitalize on natural light and an open format that makes the space look and feel huge. The staff are cheerful, respectful and friendly. They genuinely want to feed you and keep you elbow deep in water and coffee. There are no agitated busboys diving at the table the second you finish to snatch away your plate, just calm polite gentlemen who ask permission first. The food is good. Having had one item personally, I can't give an exhaustive description, but I will eventually try a bunch of items and give a better run-down. Until then, just know that the portions are reasonable - no huge piles of food messily shoveled into a trough like they used to foist on you at Blue Angel. The bread is delicious and fresh-baked on-site, try it. The hash browns and bacon came crispy, the poached eggs were done right, the medium roast coffee was at an optimal strength (neither water-weak nor acidly strong) and if you want things on the side or excluded, they can and will do that for you, even on salads. After reading the reviews below, who the heck orders a veggie burger when they go out to a family dining establishment not specifically known for vegetarian cuisine? Those things are horrible to begin with. Penalizing a restaurant for not magically turning what is essentially a fungus-infused circle of cardboard into something that tastes like Kobe beef is ridiculous. Get a salad, herbivore. Their salads are pretty tasty and they will even toss them in dressing for you. Good prices, good food, good location, good staff, go eat.

I was a patron of the old Blue Angel and they really turned this place around. Brightened it up a bit. I really like what they have done with the place! I grew up in the area and enjoy breakfast foods of all kind. The portions are pretty big and not all of it is bad. I do have to mention that it was busy in there and the service seemed lackluster. The servers looked like they didn't want to be there and mistook my order. Also, the pancakes weren't anything special. I mean for having the word "Pancake" in the name of the business you would think that the pancakes would be out of this world, right? Think again. Everything else was good, kind of hard to mess up breakfast foods.

First off my only positive review about this place is the food is awesome! The interior of it is not welcoming or cozy at all, looks like a hospital. As much as the blue angel was dirty, it had a sense of comfort and people who would sit around and drink coffee, I think they tried to stray away from that so people don't sit around, but wouldn't you rather have people Filling the place up then it be completely empty at 8 at night. Bakery is a waste and overpriced for the area and he workers look like they hate their life's working there. I have seen the owner ok there a few times and he acts like a male shovanist, being rude to his workers and breathing down there neck. He clearly cannot run a resturaunt and is completely rude. Service is awful and that's about it. Also do not go on weekends because you will wait forever for a table and when you get the food it won't be good.

Cozy booths draw us here once in a while. The waiters are friendly and accommodating to our special requests. It's a family friendly place where the locals from the Jefferson Park area gather. Food is typical of a diner. They have juices, specialty coffees and yummy pastries too!

Enjoyed this Elly's more than the one on Cumberland which I've been to a number of times. It might be because the atmosphere is slightly different and I was at leasurely breakfast with good friends vs. a rushed lunch with co-workers. Enjoyed their salmon and scrambled eggs with a toasted bagel with cream cheese.

Elly's is a 24 hr good breakfast place. The menu has alot to choose from. Gets a bit noisy on the weekend's but worth it. When entering through the back door you will be welcomed with a glass case full of fresh baked pastries for tske out!!

Good food and friendly service. It can get crowded, especially on the weekends for breakfast. My only real criticism is their coffee is hit or miss. Sometimes it is really good and sometimes it is really bad. Elly's is one of my go to places for breakfast.

DELICIOUS! Just had breakfast this Sunday morning and the place was super busy. We were seated only after waiting 6-7 mins. The waitstaff was attentive and quick to take our order. I enjoyed the Florentine Benedict and my wife enjoyed the Blintzes with blueberry. The gave us a side of fresh watermelon and honeydew melon slices. They are OPEN 6AM to 4PM everyday. Want HEALTHY options? The menu offers enough variety and my wife liked the vegetarian options. The price is very, very AFFORDABLE!. We are definitely going back again.

Went here with a group of family members, total of six people. Service was nearly non-existent for most of the stay. One of our party has special dietary concerns, and was consistently rebuffed by the waitron when attempted to order any not on the menu, even dry oats and hot water. Food takes forever, and when it arrives is the most bland breakfast food I have ever eaten. No flavor no texture, nothing to recommend it above grabbing a McMuffin. When the disappointing and frustrating meal was done, it took forever for the waitron to bring the check, even though the restaurant wasn't half full (and a line of people out the door waiting for seating), and they never returned to take our payment. Finally had to get up and go to the register to pay the check. That prompted a lecture from the cashier about how we should have paid the waitron. That prompted me to tell them that we had waited 20 minutes for the waitron, they never took our money, and so the cashier was now going to take my money, or I was going to walk. Get your $@#& together, Elly's

Jefferson Park needs a nice brunch spot, and unfortunately Elly's didn't hit the spot for me. I was excited that they offered fresh juices but the food was really greasy so I wouldn't go back. As far as ambiance, the lighting is quite bright and harsh and the decor is pretty minimal. This place is in a prime spot so hopefully they do well but if you are not a fan of heavy greasy food then this place isn't for you.

Decent breakfast option in Jeff Park. Big place but still be prepared to wait on the weekends. Offer a full bakery and juicing options that make this place stick out a bit. All good. Try the kale juice or their egg platter with bacon, sausage, and pancakes. Then take some croissants on the way home.

The three stages of Elly's for breakfast are Hey, Bleh and Yikes. Hey, look at that nice new place in the neighborhood! It's clean, open 24 hours and appears to be a nice little breakfast place. Lets go! Bleh, this is canned corned beef hash. Canned. Bleh. Eggs are way under, barely edible and there are inexplicably 4 of them on my plate. Hash browns are just....awful. No seasoning, ranging from burnt beyond hope to raw potato. OJ from concentrate, advertised as fresh squeezed, was nasty. I am actually proud of them for not fucking up the toast. Way to go on the toast. Yikes! $30 for breakfast for two? Canned, poorly prepared, under seasoned breakfast? That shit ain't right! Ps parking was ample.

I Love what they've done with the place, so bright, spic & span clean, and Great food! Love it!! Big selection of breakfast foods, haven't tried anything but the breakfast foods. The skillet is absolutely delicious, you can add all kinds of deliciousness to it, including artichokes! Oh My Goodness!! I ordered the skillet with ham, bacon, onions, broccoli, esparagus, and artichoke, topped with cheddar cheese! LoL!! I know, but I love weekend breakfast, might as well go for the Gold!! This skillet was prepared to perfection, the veggies aren't over cooked, the ham and bacon is plentiful! What else can I say about it other than it is Amazingly Delicious! The servers are friendly and attentive, my coffee cup was never empty and there is always someone nearby to ask if you need anything. I Love a Good breakfast and this place has not failed me yet, will definitely be back again and again.

This place is regularly packed, though we often come around brunch time so that is to be expected. The customer service is great, they pass out samples of their croissants to the parties waiting (almond croissant is delicious and they have a decent arrangement of other pastries and desserts). The food is excellent and prices are fair. Overall, this is probably one of my favorite restaurants in chicago. They are definitely doing something right & judging by their customer numbers & satisfaction, it shows!

Horrible!! The only positive was that it wasn't overcrowded. The service was sub par. Food took forever and hash browns were raw. Pancakes came out when we were finished with our food. They brought us a second round of hash browns and they weren't cooked either. Manager was kind enough to "take off" my meal. I didn't eat my meal and handed it back to her after biting into raw hash browns. Go to the Elly's on Clark and North. Forget this place!!!!

Frittata's do not have hash browns in them. I was disappointed to find out that when they forget your order they will cook a skillet meal and say it's a frittata to save on time I only assume this because I didn't receive my meal until everyone else at my table was 1/3 through their meal. Restaurant was busy and it's great that they have a juice bar which was the silver lining to an unhappy meal. Will come back and try again

Do not get the veggie patty here. The idea of a freshly made veggie patty deserves a star, but the execution of it was horrendous and does not deserve a single star. The patty did not stay together at all, it ran like lava all over my hands onto my plate. I ended up eating the mess with a fork and knife, as it dissolved between my fingers. Also the coffee was pretty bad. This isn't the good old Elly's on Milwaukee, from years ago, but a knock off version. And as we were leaving, the waitress that served us was standing right by the door puffing smoke in our faces. It wasn't intentional, she was a very nice person, but still that was very rude to smoke by the door when people are leaving, employees should be far away from the front door if they are taking a smoke break.

We live nearby and were so excited when Elly's announced they were opening an outpost here. I wish I could say we loved it, but we don't. Today marks the second and last time we are dining here. The first time, it happened to be their opening weekend. Service was *incredibly* slow and some of the food was cold--but given the packed-to-capacity floor, we thought we'd give the place another try today, hoping some of the kinks had been ironed out. The good news is, at 11 am on a Saturday morning, the place was busy but not so crazy that we couldn't get seated quickly. (This was after a brief wait in the crowded area near the main entrance; clearly, having a place for people to wait was not considered in the redesign of the space, and it has not been addressed since the opening.) Our server was pleasant and responsive enough, and our food came out quickly. The bad news is, much of the food we were served was lukewarm or even cold--scrambled eggs, pancakes, sausage links and hash browns are clearly served from some kind of barely warmed-over trough in the kitchen. The omelette and over-medium eggs we ordered were hot, but that was it. All in all, it's a disappointment to us that this place isn't a local option for breakfast to us. We'll continue driving out of the area for our occasional weekend morning meals.

I have not been back in the morning for a while, but have been stopping by in the evening for my breakfast dinner.... They seem to have their staff issues worked out, the food is always fresh and delish. I love Elly's I really do hope this location stays here in the neighborhood. They have a seating area outside too, Have not had a chance to check it out yet cause it's always kinda cool or windy on the days I go.

First impression was this place is very clean and had a great design. Loved the large menu and different types of pancakes! Got the potatoes Benedict which was average but I might have ordered the wrong thing. I'm sure the pancakes and omelettes are great because they sure did look good! Gotta come back here and try more! Love the small bakery to go shop which is attached. Only downside is its located in a strip mall that's between 3 busy streets so its tricky to find and get to but there's plenty if parking!

I got old waiting for my breakfast to come out. Slow service and mediocre food seem to be the featured items. One hour from the time we walked in the door until my pancakes hit the table. Turkey sausage tasted like sawdust. Funny thing is that I'd drive 20 minutes up Milwaukee to the "good ellys" just past ABT. Their turkey sausage rocks and their service is awesome.

Great food, great service, great time! Four of us came here after being bridesmaids in a wedding. We had an early morning of standing in the hot sun taking photos and still had hours before the reception! This was around the corner from the Mormon temple we were at so we stopped by. Smart move! The waitress was beyond helpful and accommodating, very nice and funny. We all devoured our food! I didn't try, but 2 of us had the Oreo pancakes and they said they were to die for! The veggie omelette another friend had was delicious! I ordered the Grilled Cheese: Cheddar and Monterrey jack cheese grilled on honey oat bran bread with bacon and avocado with tomato soup. Holy mother of all that is cheese! That was amazing! The fries were perfect for dipping into thick ranch dressing as well! I will def come back next time in Chicago!

We were really looking forward to the opening of Elly's right by our house. We used to go to Blue Angel for breakfast all the time. The first time we went was when it first opened. What a mistake. It was a mess. I can't comment on the food, because it never came. We've been back twice and it's ok. I think it's overpriced for what it is and both times our food came out quickly...but wrong. Once it's fixed everything is good, but nothing special. I'd rather go to Family Palace.

We recently stayed at a nearby hotel which had a breakfast buffet that was way overpriced. Fortunately I found this gem down the street. You can't do better for a tasty, we'll made breakfast. My wife had the lox platter, which was huge and fresh. Apple pecan French toast was fantastic. Eggs Benedict scrumptious. Attentive service. And it's cheap!

Fantastic experience! Very friendly greeting from the host, outstanding and caring service from the waitress, and a manager that made sure every attention to detail was taken care of for an excellent lunch. Their Greek chicken wrap is so yummy! Highly recommended! Looking forward to a return visit.

NO NO NO way is this place a true breakfast joint. Food is mediocre at best and the wait is not even worth it. IHOP is much better and thats not saying much for this joint.

I am updating my review because many thought it was unfair that I base it entirely on one server. The food at Elly's is always good and there are lots of options to suit whatever diet you may or may not be on. I love the fries here. I love the different soups and there are always large portions of everything. Sundays get a little bit busy, but there is lots of seating so you will not be waiting long. All in all, this has been probably the best addition to the neighborhood as far as restaurants go. Not to mention, its better than Blue Angel was! As far as food goes, I am always satisfied with Elly's whether its breakfast or lunch. One of my favorite things to order is the stuffed French toast!

I love love love love love this place. I can't say it enough. I order from here at least 2-3 times a week -- sometimes during lunch while I'm at work, and sometimes during the weekend. I almost always do take-out, but even when I dine in, it's great. Service has always been fast and friendly, and the decor inside is really clean and pleasant. I love what they did with the place -- the back area where they have the pastries is modern and gorgeous. And whenever I'm there, I always see the staff working hard and keeping busy. You can tell they take a lot of pride in keeping the quality high. I like their simple menu and most importantly I LOVE that they offer healthy options!!! That's VERY difficult to find in this neighborhood. You can get a nice healthy lunch platter with a scoop of tuna salad, an egg, some bran bread, etc, for example. Nothing they make is overly greasy, which I appreciate. It's all just fresh, clean food. They also pay attention to detail. The last time I ordered breakfast take-out, it came with pancakes and not only did they include butter and syrup, but also a little container of powdered sugar. I thought that was an excellent touch! I also got their vegetarian omelette with cheese and it was soooo yummy. However I felt that the whole thing could use some pepper. I admit they do tend to under-spice their food, but I have a feeling that's because their usual clientele of elderly people do not like very spicy food. I haven't had a burger from there but I've heard they're good. I've tried a few of their sandwiches and their chicken tender meal -- all very good. Their seasoned fries are the BEST -- I could eat a mountain of them. The only thing I've been disappointed with thus far is their chicken salad -- SO bland, it pretty much tasted like nothing. If I could suggest one improvement, I really think they need to season their food better all across the menu. More seasoning would really give this place the extra edge. Glad they've joined the neighborhood and I hope they're here to stay!

Went for the first time today after our power was out all night. The ambience leaves a bit to be desired and the food is good, but nothing special. What's GREAT about this place is it's staff. The hostess was phenomenal, running around to make sure both my and my brother's phones could be plugged in (no power at home, remember!) and then checking in on us later, only to surprise my daughter with birthday ice cream! Our waiter was great and all the servers made sure our coffee was filled at all times. We will definitely be back!

I love breakfast more than anything in the world. This place knows how to do it right! It's weird at first if you're used to it being Blue Angel, but after you get over that and taste your breakfast it's all good!

The pancakes were the best part of my meal! Fluffy, buttery, yummy. The service was good but nothing spectacular. Perks of this place are that it's 24 hours! Including their smoothie bar and bakery in the back. My only qualm is that I ordered a skillet and the cook messed up and made me an omelet, and when I sent it back for my skillet, the turkey sausage was dry =( If you're going to make a skillet DON'T get turkey sausage.

I really like the food here. So far I have had the Santa Fe chicken sandwich and the two egg special with sausage patties, pancakes and hash browns. Everything was delightful. I think I was most impressed with the friendliness of the staff. They make sure to check on you without being annoying......even when it's not their table.

I love this place! I wish they were still open 24/7 but there still delicious and they make the best chicken sandwich!

Great service and awesome food. One of the only breakfast restaurant that uses high quality cups and utensils. My favorite thing to get is the Hawaiian Omelet with provolone cheese. Definitely recommend.

Ellys was ok for the most part. I dont like the idea that they list how much you should tip on your bill. 22% is a bit out of line as one of the choices. Most people know how much to tip and its also based on service. Prices are a bit high I thought. Probably won't be going there on a regular basis.

the service at elly's is top notch. the hostess is welcoming and the staff are organized in seating their patrons even on a very busy sunday morning. our waitress was very efficient and checked on us several times. my eggs benedict was really delicious and i would have given this place an extra star or two if only i didn't find a hair under my hash browns. what a breakfast buzz kill. too bad.

Be warned!

Super busy Sunday morning, but the turn over of tables was pretty quick. The pancakes were good and so were the eggs but skip the sausage patties unless you like really bland patties. Order the hash browns with onions and cheese, oh man what a difference. We will be back.

I was very satisfied with my experience. No problem with service, and we enjoyed our meal. Want to acknowledge appreciation, as my wallet fell into the booth and I left it behind. The waitress found it and it was kept secure until I realized it was missing and picked it up. THANK YOU!!

I was excited to try the new place in the neighborhood. The service was good but the food was not. I ordered a burger medium and it came out burnt, totally overdone and almost inedible. I thought the prices were high also, over $9 for a chicken sandwich. The waitress was excellent. Too bad the food was meh.

Stopped in unexpectedly for lunch. Huge, varied menu. Great salad selection. BYOB and 24hrs, great service, great ambiance. Reasonable prices, generous portions. What's not to love? Oh and the bakery? Coffee? Perfect.

When there is nothing opened nearby , Elly's seems like a good option. Bicentennial crepes are too sweet and 'heavy'. Service is decent. The place offers a variety of ingredients for omelettes which are great. I prefer Wildberry.

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.
