Location is the only good thing about this place. Service is probably the worst in the area. Everything takes forever to come. Servers seem non-experienced. Food is nothing special. Too bad it's the only option on that beach.

While the views and food may be relatively good, the staff seems to be quite rude. One waitress was particularly nasty with a tourist who had clearly assumed that the bathrooms located on the other side of the building belonged to the beach rather than the cafe, a simple mistake considering there were no signs indicating otherwise. And that wasn't the first or last person I observed who was privy to her poor attitude. It's safe to say she was a significant damper on my dining experience and it's unlikely that I will return. I don't appreciate such distasteful displays. Off-putting to say the least.

Underwhelming food and drinks. I saw them turn away a woman with her young child needing to use their restroom. I will never be back and ill make sure to tell everyone I know that takes their families to Ohio St Beach not to give them their business.

We had a great time at Cafe Oliva. The service has improved since our last visit and Colin was an excellent server. We enjoyed the lamb meat balls and the lollipop chicken wings, yum! The bar tenders poured strong drinks and the manager stopped by to see how our meal was. Overall a great experience, will be back again soon!

In seven years of living in this great city, Caffe Olivia recently became the source of my worst dining experience thus far. They force an 18% gratuity on you - this is in very small writing and after the elderly ladies next to us got the wrong order 3 times, I pointed that out to them, they hadn't realized. The staff is auto-tipped - could this be why they don't care at all about service? At all. Terrible. We waited 25 minutes to place an order for melted margaritas that arrived 20 minutes after that. Then she says, "I'll be right back to take your order" - we were trying to politely say "we can tell you now it's just a burger and a salad!" But she ignored us, not for one minute, but for 20. When we finally ordered, I told the waitress I had a wheat allergy and double-checked the calamari is sans croutons. No extra requests, she confirmed it doesn't come with croutons and I ordered off the menu as-is. It showed up with no lettuce and extra croutons. It was just calamari, tomatoes and croutons on an appetizer plate - are you kidding me?? This is now 90 minutes in. We just tell her to take it off the bill and well cash out because it's inedible. She says, "that might take a minute, our managers are really backed up." SHOCKING. Horribly managed, horribly serviced, bland bad cold food. And we weren't the only ones to be given dishes not even made to menu description. They get their 18%, why should they care? It's on the beach and people will come no matter what must be the mantra. DON'T DO IT. Don't waste your day at the beach being forced to tip people who won't service you anyway. If I could give zero stars, I would. Don't do it.

The staff is so super friendly, welcoming, and hard working. Also when I arrived the music was awful and they were kind to change it to make it more customer friendly. Food is good too. My only recommendation is to ask the people who are in charge of chair rentals on the beach to move their pods for a better view. What a pleasure it was to be here.

Over priced. $8 for a kids meal with no drink. Chips are stale. Caprese salad was poor quality. You have to BUY water. Not worth it.

Service was below average, especially considering the place was not busy at all. From our order, the iced coffee was warm, the gelato tasted like everything else stored in the freezer. But worst of all is their ability to do math. There is a 1% charge for being on the lakeshore, however is not really 1%, (our bill was $23 and the charge was 0.26), this amount is also taxable and they include an 18% tip automatically whether the service is deserving if it or not. Furthermore, when I calculated the % charged for taxes, they round UP your bill (if the total is $1.201 for taxes, they charge you $1.21). When I started asking questions about the bill, they treated me poorly and gave me attitude, 'because it was just 26 cents!', but they are MY 26 cents and you need to prove I owe them to you for me to pay them! Horrible overall.

Great place on the beach, but the food is awful. Don't step out of the box. Keep it simple with a burger or just a simple drink. Definitely not coming back.

Not to be confused with Caffe Olivia which does not exist this place is great. Having a real restaurant on the beach with private chairs and a full bar is awesome. Great food not bar food Great service (ask for Allie) Management and owners are very nice. Reggae on Saturdays Great for lunch or dinner or just drinks A true hidden gem, check it out

They're lucky they have a cool location on the beach! Went on a Saturday and they weren't very busy. Asked to switch to the table next to the one we first got due to a larger size and a wobbly table, but were literally told by the waitress that she couldn't do that because they wouldn't be able to switch our table assignment in the computer. Everyone just looked at each other and laughed out of ridiculousness. We hadn't even ordered food yet. We were a table of 5, stayed for awhile and had several rounds of drinks. Food was cold and not very good. Drinks average at best. Every single thing we asked for - a new drink or a side of ketchup - took 15+ minutes to get. Drink was spilled on my wife without even apology. Our group just had to laugh at how bad the place was (other than location). At least they took off the auto 18% gratuity after we complained.

Loved the location and the fact that I could bring my dog and the staff made him very comfortable by bringing him water. Ordered the bruschetta and the ingredients were not fresh and it took an extremely long time. Only had one domestic beer period, as the server explained that they had a run on them? Go buy more? Overall I would say it was overpriced, very small selection on the menu and it wasn't very good,

What a waste of my time! Not only was there no one at the host stand, but the host cursed when she approached me. Said there was a wait for a table, but I could order food at the bar. Went to the bar where I sat without being noticed for 13 min until I asked the bartender ( brunette female) if I need to get in line near the beer garden just to get a menu. Keep in mind there was only 3 people sitting at the bar including myself and two bartenders. After several more minutes, I had enough and left. If you are looking for horrible service with a side of attitude - this is your place! I'm going to head to Navy Pier instead.

Memorial Day weekend was packed but they still have us a great table to hang out and do some quality daydrinking! Food hit the spot nicely. The menu had a nice balance of your standard favorites and some newer stuff that I'll try my next go around. Waitress and staff were prett attentive so none of us had to wait long to get refils/food/etc. Definetly one of the cooler beach spots in Chicago. Highly recommended

A great addition to the Streeterville neighborhood, grilled Italian flatbread pizzas, paninis and salads, a nice draft beer selection including Peroni, Zywiec and Half Acre. Of course the best thing about the place are the views.

If I could leave ZERO STARS, I would! Enough said! Food - disgusting, service - disgusting, management - mentally challenged with severe hearing impairment! When a local speaks, listen. They are your repeat customers, however in this case ONCE WAS ENOUGH!!! In a nut shell, Streeterville residents need to step up and demand higher class, better quality and superior service for such an upscale area! Our beaches are awfully served by less than desirable food service companies posing as restaurants. If you have an issue serving seating of 75 in "a kitchen the size of a trailer" then don't bid on a city contract!!! Anyone up for putting together a private beach/floating barge with gourmet food/cocktails and charging a membership fee? Seriously considering a proposal!

OMG. Cool location but they RAN OUT OF FOOD Memorial Day 1:30pm. Kitchen staff didn't show up. Servers tried but ultimately couldn't make up for this disaster. Customers everywhere complaining.

An awesome concept, right on Ohio street beach but it needs a little work. Knowing it's brand new, service was still very poor. Food was alright. Flatbread overcooked, burnt corners.

By far one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago! The food is incredible.. I had the fish tacos, buffalo wings, truffle fries, and guacamole! All fantastic! Not to mention the great views of the city and Lake Michigan! Great cocktails as well! Try the white mojito! Don't understand the poor reviews, maybe those people need to give it another shot! If you don't come here you will be missing out!
