First off, let's start with the bad. I do not like cheese. You hear me? I really don't. I also do not like menus that do not detail the meal. The first time I went to C. Manny's, I got the chicken Chimichanga, which was detailed as more/less a tortilla filled with chicken and deep fried. Well, they forgot to mention that the sauce included cheese. Important? Maybe. Maybe not. All I know is, there were globs of cheese inside of my chimichanga. I probably should have sent it back, but it seemed to be concentrated so I picked around and tried to enjoy my meal. The rest of the meal was OK. Service was sub-par, mostly because the waitress was very rude to my grandfather, who is hard of hearing and needs things said at a certain volume in order for him to hear. Getting impatient and talking in an irritated tone doesn't make me want to come back. Second time, my parents and my grandfather went. I wasn't excited, but I decided to order what I usually do at these type of restaurants, the chicken mole. Now.. the menu says that the chicken mole comes with BONELESS BREAST of chicken. What do I receive? A bunch of dark meat on the bone. I actually did get a wing, whoopie! The point is, I didn't want to be rude and send it back when I really don't mind (I guess..) dark meat. However, I truly prefer white, and that's part of the reason I didn't order the other chicken dishes with half a chicken. All the food came rather quickly. The waitress still seemed to be somewhat rude, but I didn't really care. I don't feel like going back, because it's like picking the ingredients out of a hat on whatever meal you're getting. You better make sure you clarify how you want your dish to be served. I'd rather get some tacos at a cheap taco joint than get stiffed by these people.

Excellent food, service and margaritas. I am 100% Mexican and my girl European mix and we both love the food. Spicy, medium, or not, have it your way!!Even the price is right! Love this place!!!

This place is nearly across the street, so I could easily give it 4 stars for being close, but that is not really to their credit. We read that this place gets busy but arriving at 6:30 PM we had no problems getting a seat. The hostess even gave us one out of way of the cold draft coming from the door. (thoughtfulness!) We munched on some chips and salsa and observed the variety of folks sitting around us. Many appeared to know each other. Our food order came fairly quickly. My fiance raves about the flautas, and the small nachos was very filling. Around 7:00 the music started bumping, and the whole neighborhood must have heard as they came pouring in, like some strange salsa line. The thoughtful service we had enjoyed only minutes before disappeared. We waited for about 20 minutes to get a check while the two servers frantically tried to serve everyone. So... come early and get your eat on. Stay to get your drink and groove on. We'll be back... at 6:00 maybe this time.

So...today, my GRINGO boyfriend decided to test my very, "delicate-for-Mexican-food," palette! I decided to play nice and let him choose tonight's adventure dinner... To my surprise, HE chose a Mexican Restaurant that he swore would be phenomenal. As, many of you know, I am very critical of Mexican food in restaurants and refuse to give any Mexican restaurant a try. I'm racist like that. I trust my mother and grandmother's food and hold ALL Mexican restaurants to their status. If they have not met the pedestal set forth by my Latina enforced Mexican-raised ...., I just say "NO!" But, today was different. Ted's hairdresser Eva, emphasized how great Manny's was and how delightful the "guachinango" dish was. I have had guachinango, a fresh fish coated with garlic, olive oil, lemon and seasoning and fried to perfection, plenty of times...in MEXICO!!! I decided to give it a whirl and to see if Ted was beginning to understand how important Mexican food is to me and to see if he'd pass the test of going with your gut and trying something outside the "norm!" To my surprise, Ted and Eva were right on the money with this suggestion. Not only was I won over by Maria Elena, our savvy waitresses charismatic and humble service, but the food lived up to what Ted knows I expect out of Mexican food. The refried beans...just like mi mama's, the guachinango, literally "finger lickin' good!" Oh and the Margaritas...knocked me on my a**! I am happy to say that these little dive Mexican restaurants are living up to their "MARIZZA EXPECTATIONS" and making Chicago a very home-based home, as far as the kitchen comes to mind. I still would drive to Milwaukee, WI for my mother's cooking any day of the week...but to know that I have it here in Chicago and it's close enough to mama's cooking-works for me! Thank you Maria Elena for your awesome service, to Ted for taking the risk of being replaced, to Eva for mentioning the place and to C. Manny's for the experience! I'll be back...with my dad!

I basically hate this place and all places like it. Delicious, authentic, cheap tacos abound in Chicago, but they are not here. At this place, you sit down at a table, get Americanized food (lots of lettuce and cheese), and pay three times as much as you would at a taqueria. I tried the margaritas, and I did not find them strong, delicious, or cheap, as other reviewers did. I have lived one block away from this restaurant for 5 years, and I've only been there once. That says a lot.

Okay, so the main reason I love this place is for their potent margaritas! A pitcher will only run you about $18.95 - which in my book is a total steal - and lends to a really fun evening. We have sampled a variety of the nonalcoholic menu items too. Those that stick out especially are the steak and chicken flautas. I typically don't eat red meat but the steak is absolutely to die for. The chips and salsa are pretty good but the salsa can be inconsistent. One bowl might burn your tongue off while the next can barely start a fire in la boca! Either one is good though. I just prefer my salsa muy caliente. I absolutely love the staff! They are wonderful. The seedy decor is a plus in my book too. It's fun and reminds me of some of the bar/restaurants I've visited in Baja. It's a cheap night out: 2 entrees + a pitcher of margaritas + tip = $42.

The food is very good; the service - not so much. I found it very difficult to communicate with the staff as they spoke minimal English. We'll give it another whirl to see if we have better luck placing an order. If the food was not as good as it was, I wouldn't bother with a trip back!

We went on the Friday night before xmas and we basically had our choice of seating. We chose to sit away from the blaring jukebox that is mounted near the front door. Once seated, our waitress (we were never sure which waitress was ours, we seemed to have two) came by and immediately brought us a pitcher of margaritas, the guacamole we ordered, and chips and salsa. The drinks were a little too sweet, but did the trick. The guacamole came out quickly (it was obviously premade and sat in the fridge) and it was bland. We were disappointed that it sat on a bed of lettuce (weird). The chips were fine, but the salsa was all liquid but tasty. My chicken enchiladas mole were great (I liked the spicy mole sauce), but my girlfriends' taquitos were greasy. The rice and beans were what you would expect. The service was great until the end, we were obviously done with our pitcher of margaritas and food, and it took some time to get their (both waitresses) attention. There's better Mexican food - search elsewhere.

This is the place me and my Guy meet for a simple date night. The waitresses got to know us and we're almost regulars! Their beans are so good! This is how you do refried beans. It's not a fancy place, but it's several steps up from a taqueria; it's solid, homey mexican food and they bread a nice red snapper filet for Lent. Their mole is also good and I enjoyed their giant bowl of chicken soup when I was sick one night. Not a huge fan of their salsa but it's not bland! The margaritas will also knock you on your arse. I also love how kitschy and retro this place looks; it's like a place where a boss would meet his secretary. Love it.

After finding out the last installment of the payday loan that had been dragging me to this somewhat dead neighborhood since June had been automatically deducted, I decided to treat myself to a local restaurant (if I could find one) with my newfound monies. When I walked into C-Manny's, I thought I would end up spending a lot of my windfall. Either that, or I worried that I wandered into a restaurant that had been closed for a wedding party (it's a bad tendency of mine that will one day end in disaster as I wander into the wrong Italian restaurant in New York City at the wrong time). All of the tables are set with napkins nicely folded onto perfect place settings under glass chandeliers. A pleasant surprise, however, awaited with the menu. The prices were actually extremely reasonable ($8 for most standard fare and around $15 for the more specialty items). And there were so many vegetarian entries (they'll make pretty much anything filled with cheese as opposed to meat) that I felt spoiled for choices. The possibility overload caused me to default to my usual enchilada suizas. The presentation of these was sort of weird as the three little enchiladas were stuck together under a winter blanket's worth of cheese. It was seriously like discovering a Mexican dish underneath unbreaded saganaki. But they were both the cheesiest and the tastiest enchiladas I've had in quite a while! This place did seem to have a nice bar area which I was really surprised had no locals hanging around it during a "late lunch" (since I've never seen a bar around this area). Then again, in this neighborhood there didn't seem to be anyone out on the streets, period.

Good place, under-rated, the atmosphere is ok but dark and sort of tacky, but the food is pretty good so who cares. They do have cloth napkins and I think it's nice enough. Love it, mainly for margaritas. The good: --MARGARITAS! Fantastic margaritas, including frozen strawberry, yes better than Lalo's --Service, friendly and prompt, usually the same ladies --Guacamole --Enchiladas Suiza, I like cheese --Chips and salsa are good The bad: --Veggie Fajitas, just naaaasty. Potatoes and stuff. --Carne Asada, looked, tasted, and smelled icky

The margaritas are amazing, and I think it clouded my judgement for the night. If I would have reviewed this immediately afterwards, while drunk, I would have probably given it a four star review. But then thinking about it later, meh. The service was beyond slow, but I was fine with that I was enjoying the pitcher. We ordered guac, and never got it. The chips and salsa were good. All of that, not so bad, the food was actually pretty tasty. But what is knocking it down for me was I ordered the chicken tacos... hmmm, what's that crunch... I think it is more than just chicken meat in my taco... some cartilage perhaps. blech. maybe that's not a big deal, the flavors were good, but I was totally grossed out when I realized what I ate. And for the price, I would think they would have only used the meat of the chicken. Next time I will stick with Los Nopales, authentic without the random chicken parts included.

I have past by this place a zillion times and never even noticed it! This was a very pleasant "hidden" surprise. I went here to celebrate a girlfriend's fortieth birthday, "Girl's Night Out" if you will. Reservation for 7:30 on a Saturday night. Gracious welcome from the staff. We started with the Guacamole (A+) and Ceviche (B+). I ordered Steak Fajitas, they give you the choice of spicy or regular. (I really liked that unusual option) I ordered spicy. Very, very good. Three people in our party ordered Carne Asada, and enjoyed it very much. One ordered the Enchiladas, another pleased customer. None of us finished all our meals. The portions were huge! Excellent service. White tablecloths were a nice touch. Outstanding Sangria and Margartias!! At the end of our dinner, they brought out a piece of flan with a candle and complementary "pink" shots. (No clue what it was-but it was tasty) Excellent ending to a very, very good dinner! A great time was had and I would definitely come back here with the family.

My girlfriend and I went there for a late night dinner around 9:30pm last night. I ordered the taco combination and everything was very tasty. Certainly not the best taco in the city, but still it was very tasty. My girlfriend ordered an enchilada platter, and she really liked her food as well. It's a nice little place where you can get a decent meal for 20 bucks for two. I can see myself go there again if I'm in the neighborhood. I thought the music was little loud, and the decor was a bit cheesy. But seriously.... that's what you'd expect as you approach this place. Actually, the inside is much nicer than what you'd expect from outside. The service was superb.

Went on a friday night, around 7:30pm. It was mostly full but my wife and I were able to grab the last booth. The room is dark but welcoming. The decor is a bit dated but the room has an air of authenticity, not for Mexico, but for a Mexican restaurant in Chicago maybe 20 or 30 years ago. (I say that in a good way though. I yearn for places that are a product of their actual surroundings, not a place trying to bring Mexico to me). The staff seems sincerely friendly but not overbearing. We had a pitcher of traditional margaritas and the Poblano Pepper with Cheese as an appetizer. Food was good and the drinks were potent. I had the steak tacos for dinner. They were well portioned but didn't have shredded cheese and were perhaps a bit too dry. The dryness would probably appeal to many but I wanted that steak to be a little greasier. That could just be me though. Well, it didn't stop me from finishing all three and the orange rice that came on the side. Wife had enchiladas with mole sauce. She reported that they were cooked well but the sauce was a bit too spicy for her. I'm definitely going back as it's very a convenient and comfortable place to grab mexican food in our neighborhood.

oh, I love this restaurant. This time, i went with 10 other people...what a great time we had. Of course, I had the enchilda suiza (steak) and many, many margueritas. I love the nachos - all fresh ingredients... The service is still excellent. My only complaint is that someone plowed thru the bus stop and the bench is no longer there...but, it is still nice to walk out the front door of C Manny's and be at the bus stop!

My family loves C Mannys and has been going here for many years (even way back when they had their first location on Elston). Margaritas are very strong and well priced. I can get a nice buzz on one small one (I'm a petite chica). The plates are large in size so there are always left-overs for me at least! While some might characterize the service as slow, I'd ask whether they ever ate out in Mexico. As in Mexico, they give you plenty of time and won't bring the check until you ask for it. If you are in a hurry this is annoying, but I come here on the weekends to relax and I love that you can stay all night if you want. This is a great place to go with friends if you plan on staying there hours and hours to talk and drink. The food is very well priced and I think it is delicious. Plus their salsa is addicting.

I love love love this restaurant! Best chicken flautas anywhere! It's too bad I moved from this neighborhood, I don't get to go as much as I used to. Margaritas are awesome too. You can't beat the prices. I would imagine the food here is how an authentic Mexican food should be.

My first visit, solo, to Manny's was not great. I had the steak fajitas which arrived after a good wait, served very hot though. The tortilla chips and salsa were just mediocre. The fajitas, a large portion, even with all the sauce, onions, green peppers, was tasteless, a real disappontment. I had a beer with the meal, no problem. I decided to have the flan for desert and it was the best flan I have ever had. Different than any flan I have ever had, it had the terxture of cheese cake. Very good. The whole bill came to about 26 bucks with tip which I thought high for a mediocre meal. My philosophy for eating out is simple. It must be better than anything I can prepare at home. Manny's missed that goal and I won't be back.

Coming from the West coast, it's been hard for me to find Mexican food that is on par to what I'm used to, but C Manny's is a decent spot. The portions are great for the money, and the margaritas are strong!!!

Cute place. The setup inside was rather cozy. The guac was ok. It had lemon instead of lime, which didn't necessarily make it bad; it was just different. The enchiladas suizas were bomb ass diggity, yo. I could've drooled all over my plate. My friend's flautas were pretty good, too. I didn't try the veggie combo, which is what my other friend got, but he loved it and practically licked his plate clean. Mmmmm. The flan, while not the best I've ever had, was pretty decent. I might get it again. Who knows. I AM a flan kinda girl. :) I'd come back here. I had a good experience overall. The prices were pretty dang good, too. My enchilada plate was about 8 bucks (as were my friends' plates). 8-something bucks for a filling, satisfying meal??? SOLD! Next item on the menu to try -- the three mini burritos! Or maybe the milanesa. Breaded anything is amazing, especially when it's smothered in cheese. Oh, sweet cheese...you make me happy when skies are gray.

Unfortunately, I don't completely agree with Dionna R. I live in the area and really wanted to like this place since it's very convenient. However, after trying it a few times, I've lost interest. The food is a bit lacking and has been somewhat bland every time I've tried something new. The price is moderate, but definitely not worth what you get. Service was annoyingly slow every single time I've been there. There are better mexican places in the area if that's what you're after. One of the few redeeming qualities are the drinks. I've had their margaritas and sangria, both of which were very tasty.

Not the best Mexican in the city (by far) but a decent place to grab a bite. I have been a few times because one of my friends lives very close, and have tried several dishes. I wasn't blown out of the water by any of them, but I really like their salsa here. If I had tired nothing but the chips, salsa, and a large margarita... they would be getting 5 stars easy! The lunch/dinner entrees are decent but I have found them to taste rather bland at times. I have personally never had an issue with slow service, but I have only been in for lunch, never during a dinner rush or anything. You won't be disappointed if you don't go in thinking it will be the best Mexican you ever had. If that's what you are looking for, try out one of the many hole-in-the-wall places close by Manny's. Just be sure to wash everything down with a margarita... they aren't half bad here.

Food was great and cheap for large portions. I had the Enchiladas Suizas and my hubs had some kind of shrimp dish that had awesome tomato-y sauce. Decor is weird, like others mentioned, but definitely interesting. The servers were very nice, but it took forEVER to get our check...I think they forgot about it. Otherwise great - we'll be back!

Overall average American style Mexican food worth 2 1/2 stars. You got the variation of a stuffed tortilla ladled with red sauce and sprinkled with white meltcheese, the shredded iceberg lettuce, the refried beans, the corn chip garnish. Ever since I discovered what a good taqueria serves, this style of Mexican seems so TV dinner, lacking in freshness, flavor and originality. The service was attentive, though it took a while for them to take our order. The margherita was a big disappointment--it had so little alcohol that we gave it to our 4 year old and he drank it as a smoothy. The ceviche wasn't fresh--the mussels were either old or canned. The enchilada suiza and chile rellenos were good, served very hot. The free chips were a bit hard and bland, unsalted and required water to swallow. The salsa was hot, thin and not very flavorful. You won't see any chunks of tomatoes or cut up fresh cilantro here. I'm strictly a gringo when it comes to exposure to authentic Mexican food, but have the sense the sense that this is more upscale Taco Bell than anything worth going out of your way for.

I've been going to C.Manny's for years, back when it was on Elston Avenue. Ever since it has moved to Irving Park Ave the service has been horrible. You'll wait a long time for a check and any refills on drink-- just call them over and get it over with. I keep going back for the great margaritas, salsa and select dishes. The fajitas are probably the best I've ever had, and the enchiladas suizas are great (also my personal fave). It's not over-priced and overrated like a lot of big name Mexican places. Still my go-to Mexican place because it is pretty freaking delicious.

Gasoline magaritas. After two of these magaritas that come in fish bowl sized glasses, you will try to leave and fall down and hit the floor. Although they are very strong, the margaritas are made with poor mans tequila. The food is not great either. Imitation crab meat in the cevice. The meat is all very salty. I've seen the red snapper come out and that looks pretty good, just not something I would order. A little over-priced. The service is great though. Bartenders are very nice and sarcastic. I may not like the flavor of anything in there, but I always come back to the staff.

"Come for the food, STAY for the service" should be the phrase on C. Manny's marquee. Generous margaritas, and very good, traditional Mexican food are sometimes overshadowed by slow, but friendly and welcoming, service. The introductory chips and salsa is pretty standard. The salsa is a red-tomato-based puree with a nice subtle kick. Try the individual nachos - each chip is topped with refried beans and melted chihuahua cheese, and then generously topped with guacamole and sour cream. The enchiladas suizas and verdes plates were both good. Both were generously topped with melted chihuahua cheese and their respective sauces; and were accompanied by homemade refried beans and Spanish-style rice. My only criticism was that the verde sauce was decent, but did not seem homemade, in my latest visit. The restaurant decor is fine, but tends to get over-decorated around many holidays. The service is welcoming and friendly, but can be slow - by the American, fast-paced, Chi-Chi's standard. Yet, it is not awful. Some of the slow service can be attributed to the fact that there is usually only one or two servers for the entire restaurant. If you are expecting the food, circuses and service of Topolobampo or Salpicon, you'll be disappointed. Yet, if you have some extra time in your schedule, feel like a tequilla-liberal margarita, and want to enjoy some traditional Mexican cuisine, give C. Manny's a try.

If you are thinking of eating here take a pass! If you are looking for great or even decent Mexican food try one of the smaller places all over the area. We tried several dishes and thought it was all just OK. I love Mexican food, being Mexican myself and having traveled and eaten throughout Mexico. I was hoping for better food since it is one block from our house.

My favorite for nearly 17 years. Used to go at old location on Elston. Excellent Margarita, personalized service, recommend any Fajitas and tacos. Same employees for 17 yrs. Our family favorite over other neighborhood mexican places. Reasonably priced enough to avoid other over-rated, over-priced places (Las Cazeulas). First rest. we took our children to--great family vibe, authentic, real-deal.

I live in the area and eat here once in awhile. Although it's not the best Mexican food, it's bearable for what's in the neighborhood. Sometimes the service can be a little slow, but I can live with it.

If you are looking for fancy--forget it. if you want a great Mexican meal for a decent price you have found the place. I have been going here for years. I even ate here when they were at the old location. Great salsa and chips. Great red snapper. Great shrimp soup. Great burritos. Great chimichangas. Everything is good and the atmosphere is homey and not chain store. Flan and rice pudding for dessert.

Restaurant looks nice inside. We went on a week night and it seemed pretty busy. It wasn't that great though. We are from Phoenix though and are craving some good mexican food, but have yet to find some.

Well, after my 1st visit which I got carry out I ordered small guacamole, salsa and chips. It is by far the best guacamole I have ever had....it was soooooo fresh. salsa was really great as well. I went back for the food again, and it was good. I had the burritos, and for the price you can't beat it. They give you 3 large burritos for only $8.95. The service was fast and the food is clean.

I can't believe there are no reviews on this one. This is the best Mexican restaurant in the area. Everything here is good...well, at least what I've tried. They have big margaritas that aren't watered down and fabulous waitresses who are quick and efficient. They don't bother you while you eat. They just let you know they're around. Great, great, great queso fundido. Fabulous Chicken ala-Mexicana. Their chips and salsa??? Chips are freshly made, salted to perfection and I would drink their salsa through a straw if I could. Hot as heck....makes your eyebrows burn! Gives me the hiccups every time! My husband gets the steak fajitas or the steak tacos. I love it all. One more thing....their Sangria is the best I've ever tasted...get one...ehhhh, get a pitcher! I can't tell you how many times I've been there with friends just to eat appetizers and drink. Wonderful..... Best kept secret in Irving Park/Independance Park area.

The short Mexican woman ( with the slight blondish hair) that works here as a waiter is so rude and comes off prejudice.. Bad service..I wouldn't eat here again.

Family owned, decent food, but pricey for Mexican. Slow service because they only had 1 waitress also working the bar. The salsa was fantastic, had to get more chips...

This is my go to place, I'm usually here a few times a week. The food is amazing and the beers are always nice and cold just like I like them! They sure know how to make you feel like family. I definetly recommend this place for others.

    C. Manny's has some of the best Mexican food in Chicago! We go there almost weekly and love it. It's a great gluten-free Mexican option--just tell them you don't eat wheat and want corn tortillas for everything. Even if you do eat wheat, try the corn. They're so soft and delicious, and don't fall apart like most wheat-free corn tortillas! I only eat meat from ethical farming operations and we're not sure where C. sources theirs, so I get all vegetarian stuff when we go there. And boy, is it good! We always get our favorite combo: enchiladas verdes with corn tortillas, rajas al queso, and extra hot sauce. Their chile verde sauce is the best I've ever had. The margaritas aren't the best I've tried, but they're still delicious. And the food prices are reasonable. Check them out!

Great mags get the pitcher and walk home. Chimichongas are good. My wife swears by the enchiladas mole.

My favorite place for Mexican food. Everything we've had has been great. Love the atmosphere. Seems like there's always a baseball game on (only been during baseball season), the food is solid and often amazing. Everyone's friendly. The bar has a great feel to it. Highly recommend. From the outside, you might question the decision. Don't. ;)

This is one of the worst Mexican restaurants I have EVER been to. Not only was there ONE waitress working the ENTIRE joint on a packed Friday night, but when the food FINALLY reached our table, I almost wished it hadn't. Quite disappointing which is difficult to believe since its really hard to mess up Mexican food. I had the mole and it tasted like the stuff you get from the can, which I could have stayed home and made myself if wanted that. My boyfriend had tacos which were bland and fatty. For the inflated prices, these people should be ashamed of themselves. We live two blocks from here, so we REALLY wanted to love this place, but sadly we will never go here again and now I struggle to wonder how they've been open as long as they have. I would rather have gotten in the car and, Dios pardona me, picked up Taco Bell.

My coworker, who swears by C-Manny's, wanted to celebrate her birthday here last night, so a small group of us dined with her. My husband and I arrived by 6:30. We were served chips and salsa immediately. The chips were okay and the salsa, which was salsa roja, was too spicy. Even my husband, who is Nepalese and used to spice, commented that the salsa was way too spicy. Then, we ordered our entrees. I had the Mexican combination plate that came with rice and beans. My favorite item was the tostada. I loved the various colors and its presentation. I also LOVED the beans, which were flavorful. My husband, who is a non-vegetarian Hindu, ordered two chicken tacos. He gave me a taste and they were outstanding. The birthday girl had huachinango, red snapper in English. It came with salsa de mojo, which is usually made from olive oil, garlic, salt, pepper, and lemon or lime juice. This is how my parents make it. The fish was served with French fries that were simply to die for! My husband and I tasted the fries and we were amazed! Three other coworkers had the fajitas and they looked really good. Out of respect for one coworker, none of us had any alcoholic beverages. By 8:30pm, the restaurant was packed and we were ready to leave. I was actually quite pleased to see this. I will be coming back to C-Manny's soon as I liked the food very much.

Got here about 6:15 on a Saturday. . Menus and drinks and food all came quickly. Water glass was constantly refilled. I was a little concerned about service based on other reviews but they were unfounded. Good was good. Mole was too spicy for me but I'm a wimp with spice. I had the Combinations Mexicano and it was tasty.

I love this place, the food is excellent and very affordable. I recommend and take friends there all the time. I saw the review of someone getting food poisoning in this place, I've been to this restaurant many times with friends and family and no one has EVER gotten sick.

First review here on yelp and unfortunately it comes in with bad news. C mannys on irving park "was" the place to go for some great fajitas and pitchers of margaritas at a more then reasonable price. I use to visit this establishment frequently as it was my go to fajita spot so i know the places pros and cons. I gave this place a break due to the service from my previous experience, but gave it another chance last night... So it begins... Walk into the place and immediately greeted, took a table at a booth. Promptly served water with some chips and salsa.. chips were hard and taste like they came straight outta a bag. Salsa was more like hot sauce. I like spicy salsa, but this aint salsa. No flavor, no ingredients, just liquid peppers. Ordered an orchata for myself and a mojito for the wife. Knowing the margaritas were the highlight, we werent feeling in the pitcher mode. Shame on us.. so a few minutes later out comes the drinks. The mojito came in a nice sized daiquiri glass but to our suprise it was only half full, with most of it being ice. After a swirl of the mint she takes her first sip.. judging by her facial impressions, i already knew the disappointment. I go in for a taste myself..spearmint mouthwash...ahh.. In no way was this a cocktail..other then the fresh mint, this drink came straight out of a bottle. We give it a another swirl and try, hoping it taste a little more refreshing... nope. Not going happen with this drink.. so we put the drink to the side and wait for the waitress. With good intentions, we plan to return the drink and go with the pitcher instead.. 5 minutes go by, nothing. 10 minutes, not even eye contact. Now if you ever been to this place, it normally doesn't have much of a waiting staff. I took into account the lady was pretty much running the other 8 tables alone, taking orders and making all the drinks. I didnt press it, gave her all the time in the world. Id say about 15 minutes into the drink being served and pushed to side, i decided to put it at the very end of the table. Just a better way to gesture the drink wasnt good, instead of flagging her down. She noticed the drink several times during her walks back and forth to the kitchen. After a few trips and another 5 minutes, our impatience grew just a little. She finally makes it back to the table, but before hand makes sure a few other tables were doing well. Special attention was given to another customer sitting at the bar. He seemed to get some pretty fast and attentive service, while we sat back like pheasants. So we inform the waitress of the drink not tasting right, and she informs us that its a premade mojito...our reply, oh thats why it doesnt taste right. She then begins to tell us that all restaurants and bars serve premade mojitos. With such a bold and false statement, my wife decides to chime in with some disagreement. After hearing that most other places do not serve premade drinks, and make mojitos fresh instead, she argues back. Letting it go, she simply takes the drink and walks away.. i guess we don't get our pitcher or anything else.... If your still reading this, im gonna cut this story short. Out comes the fajitas. One order of steak, one order of shrimp..so the fajita sauce use to be amazing, now its tomatoe paste. The sizzling pan came with 1 lb of bell peppers and ruffly 4-6 pieces of shrimp/steak. With the amount of meat/shrimp we barely got 3 tacos out of the plate. If we wanted another 10 tacos we could have easily made them with all the peppers. The taste overall was mediocre at best. After putting most of the food to the side and throwing the towel down, we just wanted to get out of this place.. couldnt do that either. We were once again ignored for another 10 minutes. Right before we were going to just get up as now a unkind gesture to our unhappiness, the rude waitress returns and simply puts the check down. Quick to pay and give her a tip based on her horrible service and unprofessional style we head out. No goodbyes and thank yous for anyone here.. i will unfortunately never go back to c mannys nor will i ever mention it in a positive way again.. i honesty hope they fire this lady, which i hope isn't the owner.. or close this a $hithole down.. Food.. 5 outta 10 Drinks... premade mojitos.. really? 1 outta 10 Service... 2 outta 10

STAY AWAY!! MOLDY CHIPS AND FOOD POISONING!! My girlfriends and I went to C. Manny's on a whim a few months ago and we all got food poisoning! My friend found MOLD on a tortilla chip, alerted the staff who were extremely rude and brought us another basket without any type of apology. Our food shows up before a fresh basket of chips is brought. We are all picking at our food, which was bland at best. A few minutes later... we discover mold on another chip!! That was the last straw. My friend asked to speak to the manager immediately. The manager came over with a massive attitude and accused us of lying about the mold and claimed it was a 'spice.' After arguing with the manager for a good five minutes, we left the restaurant to never return. The following day we were all sick to our stomachs from the horrible food from C. Manny's. The staff was horrible, food is dangerous, and I will never be back! This place should be closed down

I've been meaning to write this review forever. We love Manny's; it's our "go to" Friday night dinner. We take all of our out-of-town guests there. The flavors are true and the margarita is strong. I always get the chicken burrito which is reliably juicy and fresh. Our one gripe is the guacamole, which is under-flavored and sometimes a little "off." As other yelpers have said, the service is usually a little slow because a single waitress is tending the tables and, usually, the bar, too. We just go there knowing that will be the case and focus on enjoying the free chips & salsa, and the huge margaritas.

Not in a rush?! Sit and drink pitchers for a good price whilst enjoying some family style Mexican food. Perfect for a chilled (if slightly drunken) evening.

Terrible service.. ok margaritas... eh, to the avocado dip i got to try. Only because they literally NEVER came back after the drinks to see if we wanted any food... we waited 30 minutes to just order the drinks, then had to stop a waiter to ask for the dip. Waited for that for almost an hour (with an empty drink by the time the dip came around) Never again

Food is always great and presented so well. The chips and salsa are great and we go thru 2 bowls! The margaritas are da bomb! Well sized; well made and potent and tasty! Pretty sure they use Cuervo! No wonder!!! Probably my favorite "non dump" Mexican! That is Jerez on Pulaski/Lawrence!!! A little dump but awesome authentic Mexican food!

Did this place change hands? We came here this past weekend and it was a terrible experience. Our waitress took over 20 minutes to take our order, then never brought us our appetizer of guacamole for another 20 minutes. We weren't served our entrees for an HOUR after our order was placed, and the place wasn't even packed. After picking at our food, I asked to have my shrimp fajitas wrapped up, only to have the waitress come back without wrapping the tortillas (only one had been eaten) or the fixings. No apologies or recognition of the crazy wait for dinner and awful service, so we will not be back.

  • Rod W.

Not a fan. The food is very Americanized and bland. Don't bother ordering the arroz con pollo unless you have a couple hours to dine. It takes about 45 minutes to come out. The ladies are nice, but not at all attentive. I have been in 6 or 7 and it's always the same two ladies in the front. Every time I go, I have to constantly ask for refills of whatever I'm drinking, coke, tea, water. The food comes out slow and usually you have to wait several minutes before everyone's food makes it to the table. You will probably have to ask twice for the check, wait 15 minutes to have it picked up, and then another 10 to get your credit card or change. Be prepared to wait if you want a box. The only thing entertaining is the Novellas on TV. Our favorite has be come El Fuego in Sangre (or something to that effect).

Not bad C, not bad... I would even push for 3.5 stars with that awesome mole you got there, so far the best I've had to mind you, but the steak was really tough and the overall entree was on the salty side. Rice and beans is legit. I've walked by this place, a million times, everyday and decided that I should actually go in for a change. Very surprised that the inside was spacious and very well furnished with a bit of old school Italian vibe - thick pleather chairs, wood crown moldings, large framed mirrors... fancier than I could tell from the outside and in this 'hood.

My 5 stars are just for their food. When dining in, the service well... there isn't any. But anyways, just go here on a cold night and order the caldo de pollo. Nothing else. THIS meal right here makes this place worth visiting. Tastes just like my grandma used to make it. Ahh, delicious memories... OH AND GET A MARGARITA!

Terrible food. Ordered combo fajitas, chicken and beef. Came smothered in tomato sauce and had to hunt for meat. Appetizers were gross. Margaritas were good until the next morning. Yuck. Service matched the food. Stay away!

  • Carroll S.

I'm only giving this place four stars because no matter what I order the food is fantastic. I, however, HIGHLY recommend you order for pick-up and do not eat in at the restaurant. My girlfriend and I went here twice in the same week because we both loved the food so much. Both times we went by here the service was completely awful...I mean abysmal. While the server is friendly it seems that she's never really paying attention at all. I wish the service was better seeing as the food is so tasty. Make sure if you do eat in that you request a pitcher of water to be left at the table to avoid a constant need for a server to come by and see you. They weren't busy either night we went. Also, on a side note, they CHARGE for soda refills. Full price. Avoid soda at all costs.

    (4)
  • Bettina Y.

Can you give a place 5 stars for having Margarita's to go? I have not had the same luck with the food. It isn't bad, but it isn't great either. So it is just average. In fact, one night we ordered margaritas from C Manny's and then drove to El CID in Logan for carry out.

  • Emy F.

Considering the area, and the 3 competitors LITERALLY across the street, and the few down the street in each direction...I was hoping this place would be great! It's edible, but I've had better Latin food. The menu in my opinion is overpriced especially because it isn't that good. Even on nights where I'm crying that I'm "SO FREAKING HUNGRY" I don't mention this place as an option of what we could get to eat.

  • Annie P.

I was very excited to try this place. It had pretty great reviews on yelp, and from the outside, looked like a decent Mexican joint that served margaritas. I was disappointed, however by the service. I waited over 30 minutes for my food to be served. Upon receiving our food, the basket of tortilla chips served had a moldy chip in it. We asked the wait staff for help, and they were negligent to do anything about it. Margaritas were okay, not bad, but nothing spectacular. Guacamole was either previously frozen, or just not well made. I would not recommend this place.

    (1)
  • Jen N.

The food is very good; the service - not so much. I found it very difficult to communicate with the staff as they spoke minimal English. We'll give it another whirl to see if we have better luck placing an order. If the food was not as good as it was, I wouldn't bother with a trip back!

  • Dana D.

  • Judy M.

The service was superb.

decent, if americanized, mexican place. surprisingly nice inside, white linens on the tables even. the server/bartender (it was late afternoon, pre-dinnertime, she was the only one working up front) was not the fastest but very sweet. i did not enjoy the guy who was talking on his cellphone very loudly over his happy hour margarita the whole time, but eventually she put some loud nortena on the jukebox to drown him out. salsa was good and decently hot. prices were ok, but you can get better for less nearby.

The portions are great for the money, and the margaritas are strong!!!

ay okay, Maria makes the best margarita's. I usually fill up on the chips and salsa is awesome. The food is excellent try the seafood soup.

This place rocks, if only for the nachos. Each one has every ingredient on it! A dollop of sour cream, guacamole, salsa, mmmmm.

  • Stephanie H.

  • Stella W.

Terrible food. Ordered combo fajitas, chicken and beef. Came smothered in tomato sauce and had to hunt for meat. Appetizers were gross. Margaritas were good until the next morning. Yuck. Service matched the food. Stay away!

I would not recommend this place.

decent, if americanized, mexican place. surprisingly nice inside, white linens on the tables even. the server/bartender (it was late afternoon, pre-dinnertime, she was the only one working up front) was not the fastest but very sweet. i did not enjoy the guy who was talking on his cellphone very loudly over his happy hour margarita the whole time, but eventually she put some loud nortena on the jukebox to drown him out. salsa was good and decently hot. prices were ok, but you can get better for less nearby.
