Tumble Inn Tavern

I used to work here briefly and I've known the owners since I was born. Good people, awesome place. Everyone here is super friendly, and it's a nice in-between campus/downtown spot. The beer is cheap, there are darts and Golden Tee, and the outdoor area is always nice, even when the weather isn't. Be sure to go here for the next Illini game and you'll be in good company!
Tumble Inn, Stumble out. A true bar bar. The outdoor area is a plus too. Never had a bad time at the Tumble inn. Good place to watch the Illini, or go drink at before and after you watch the Illini, live.
you just can't beat TI, where you tumble in and you stumble out. I spent many, many nights here and always had fun. The bartenders (Chester especially) are great and the company is good. You just can't go wrong. If you there, order a butch's pizza and douse it in some Butch's hot sauce...that sh*t is AMAZING! Also, beware of the Dirty Chester's...those drinks will F you up if you drink more than 2 (trust me, I know).

Einstein Bros Bagels

Reviews:
Love this place!!! I have eaten at several of different locations and always get the same quality and consistency. They have several types of bagels and sandwich offerings, I have had the turkey which is delicious and my personal favorite the Lox sandwich that is very rare to find. The lox is of very good quality, cream cheese is delicious, and bagels are all on point no matter which one you get. Always a great choice if you are in the mood for a quality sandwich or a nice fresh bagel. They are great at what they do here at Einstein Bros.
Besides the fact that this Einstein bagel does not carry my favorite spread (blueberry FOR THE WIN, haters gonna hate), this Einstein bagel especially stood out due to its outstanding customer service. I ordered a mixed berry smoothie due to the fact that it is scorching hot outside...but the cashier put in strawberry banana smoothie. I kindly told the person who gave me my order and she apologized and immediately made a new smoothie for me..and FOR FREE. If that is not customer service, I honestly don't know what is.
Seems like a newer location, having a drive through is a plus but with less than 5 mins wait time on a busy morning is a bonus. Food quality is always consistent and staff is well trained! Have been to too many locations nationwide, but this location is simply the best!!

Old Time Meat & Deli Shoppe

I love this place! Staff is great very knowledgeable every cut of meat i have ever gotten has been top quality. Oh and did i mention the twice baked potatoes?!
This place is the best. The customer service is fantastic, the quality is terrific, and the prices reasonable. If you need meat there is no better place in the area. We do not buy much meat but when we do it is only from Old Time Meat and Deli!
WE LOVE(D) THIS PLACE. And, I mean... who doesn't. Ever since we moved I've been lamenting the fact that I can't find a good butcher. But, anything you need at Old Time, they can get it for you. Even rare game, a lot of times. Once, I had them get me some quail. They also got me buffalo burger when I wanted it (and they weren't carrying it). And the quality, too! For the price you're paying at a Walmart, I mean... just skip it! Never buy that nasty meat again. Old Time'll do your 80/20 Chuck for your burgers, they'll do your bone-in ribeyes, they'll give you a pork butt, or shoulder! I mean.. whatever. For such reasonable prices, it's a wonder everyone doesn't shop there. Oh wait, they do! =D You can tell just by the parking lot. There are two lots that sort of bump up to the front and side easements, but these lots are pretty small (like 7-12 cars per, I'd guess). There are times you actually have to wait for a space to open up so you can park and run in. And it's not unusual for someone to be all cattywampus in a space or NINE (I'm looking at you, SUVs =P), so! Parking can be a bit tricky. I wanted to mention that it's not all just fresh meat from their deli case, either! They've got cheeses, desserts (frozen and fresh), OH, and the best part of all, I can't believe I almost forgot this! They carry the Beef House rolls! They're in the freezer section, in paper bags, but they're perfectly PERFECT. Take a few home to keep in the freezer for when an uninvited guest shows up for dinner. They'll praise your pastry prowess! ;D Just pure, honest good stuffs, from some people who really know themselves some food!

Great Harvest Bread Company

2149 S Neil St
Champaign, 61820
Reviews:
love love love this place. doesn't quite live up to my favorite great harvest in my hometown, but still the staff are nice and the bread is always good. favorites are the honey whole wheat, the cheddar garlic, and anything apple. and the scones. i love the scones. they aren't your typical scone (they're basically the size of my head!) but they sure are yummy. also love the make-your-own sandwich option. any sandwich on my favorite honey whole wheat (been eating it since i was 11) is heaven. also good to know about their free slices of bread, which you have to lather up with their butter. yum.
I love this bakery -- it's my favorite in the CU area, and that's saying something. The bread, cookies, bars, dessert loaves, etc. are all incredibly good and good every time: moist, flavorful, fresh, well seasoned, and wholesome. The bread is substantial with a well developed crumb -- not airy or light -- and that's the kind I like. The occasional specialty breads are to die for. I once took a loaf of the monkey bread to work, and it was mobbed. People from the office made a beeline to Great Harvest to buy more to take home. Some of the savory items are just as good -- the pepperoni rolls in white and the heavenly veggie rolls in wheat (although they aren't available as often). They now offer sandwiches to go, but I haven't yet tried one. But it's the day in, day out everyday loaves that make Great Harvest such a great bakery. Their whole wheat breads are especially superior -- chewy and richly flavored. Their white breads and challah are good, too. If the bread is seeded or includes something like nuts or berries, you can be sure there are plenty worked through or across the dough, too. And they will slice just about anything, unless it's a very odd shape. I've even tried their carb control bread. I won't say it is a good diet choice, because you won't be able to stop eating it. It's denser and less tasty than the regular items, but much better than the other low carb breads you'll find, even in specialty stores. Great Harvest also offers a brochure about making diet choices, for those with diabetic or other dietary restrictions. When you enter the bakery, you'll be offered a slice of bread, buttered and with jam if you want, as a sample. You'll also find some nice gourmet foodstuffs and kitchen items that go with the bakery theme. Great Harvest Bread Company is one of our local treasures. Nothing at Great Harvest tastes like it comes from a franchised bakery, and in fact, owners of each shop are allowed (and often do) alter recipes and offer their own to suit local tastes and use local ingredients. I can't recommend this bakery enough!
I dropped in to grab a quick sandwich and while it was not so quick it was really good, I ordered the basic ham and that's what it is. A basic ham cheese lettuce and tomato sandwich but for some reason it was better than most places. The flavor of the ham was really good and everything was fresh and crisp. The bread was a little stiff but that didn't bother me. They offer you slices of bread to try. I chose some cinnamon bread that was very good. They have jelly's, spread, breads, sandwiches, salads and soups. Not a huge variety of sandwiches, salads and soups but sometimes that is a good thing.

Great gyros sandwich Whole wings Bretty good fries Friendly service Made to order Like all greasy goods, don't let it get cold. When it's hot, though, it's great. Big portions, too!
Very friendly staff. Nice big portions. And best of all DELICIOUSLY FRIED food. I'm going be coming back
New to the Champaign area I was craving some wings. I could easily have gone to the chain wing stops, or tried something off the beaten path. I'm so glad I did! The wings are massive and meaty, dripping with the sauce of your choice (or on the side, if you prefer). The mild sauce isn't too hot, and has a hint of sweetness. I called my order in and walked out of the establishment in 15 minutes with a huge bag of wings! 10/10 will devour again.

Bentley’s Pub

I really wanted to like this place, and my first impression was actually pretty good. The first time we visited the bartender was great. A friend and I were even advised that a beer we ordered was not so good, and offered a sample which confirmed the advice. It's also really nicely done inside, with nice woodwork and a tin ceiling, friendly lighting, a jukebox, good seating, and even 10oz beers available at near half-price. Each time I've visited since, my experience has been worse than the previous. Since this was mostly based on the other clientele, I held off on reviewing. But my last visit was pretty bad, and not because of the clientele. We waited at the bar for over 10 minutes to be served--which would be completely understandable if it was busy, but there were no other waiting customers to be seen. Also, our table was never cleared the entire time we were there, nor did we see any other cleanup happening at other tables. Worst of all, neither of the beers we ordered was anywhere near it's prime--both were stale and one was noticeably flat. So with poor service and old beer, I don't know if I'll be going back.
I spent a week down here for work and this was they high light of my trip. I drank through 2 bartenders on a Wednesday while listening to an Irish jam session. The music was nice and at the perfect volume. Both bartenders were chatty and provided a lot of useful information for an out of towner like myself.
It hurts me to give Bentley's this rating. It used to be my go to bar. It's clean, friendly, has very good drink prices and it had a neighborhood atmosphere. Even their newish beer garden is very nice. Unfortunately a couple years ago they introduced the various events. Pretty much every weeknight and every night on weekends there's a band, karaoke or some sort of horrible obnoxious event (you're exempted from that criticism, Irish Music Night). That means what used to be the ideal place to hang out and have a beer with friends is gone---replaced by a new crowd with very loud events and bands. As a venue for bands, it's absolutely terrible, IMHO. I understand why they've done it, they seem to get much better business now, but I really hate it and stopped going there at the end of my time in C-U. So go on Irish music night or a night with no bands and this is a great bar, albeit with a shittier new clientele. But go on any other night and it's a bad music venue you can't even really talk in.
