After watching our beloved Chicago Fire WHOMP Seattle...we were ravenous and happened upon this joint right across from Toyota Park. We were expecting a ton of soccer fan traffic but....this place was already packed to the gills and still on a 20 minute wait at 10 at night. Basically, we had the post game munchies and waited for a table. This place was rocking. Crazy drinks here and there....platters of craw daddies and tacos galore. For our "snack" the 4 of us ordered a round of drinks, an order of guacamole, a steak taco meal and a plato of the langostinos. WOW!!!! We ate everything! Licking fingers, even as we walked out the door. Even now....4 hours later, I am craving the flavor of the langostines with the red onion and the delightful sauce they were smothered in. The service was not great. We attempted to get our server's attention a few times and she was on her cell phone behind a bar like area. A busboy of sorts gave us better service throughout the meal. The food was really very good. The service could improve. We will definitely go here again for the food and hope to have a different experience than the one we had tonight. We realize that we arrived right before they were closing (at 10:15 when they close at midnight), but the restrooms were disgusting.....and the dining room floors were so so bad.....you literally had to skate across them to get out of the place. It was filthy dirty. With drinks and our snack and purchasing a mix tape CD from an in house peddler, and the extra $5 we had to tip a busboy to bribe him for a small cup of their salsa to-go (their salsa is amazing)....it was about $75!!!!!! A very extravagant snack but wonderful food. We are always excited to try new things :)

Dirty needs to be renovated. They make enough with their over priced menu. We had our waitress ask us to pay the tab after only being there for 30 minutes because her shift ended. We tried to order something else then we were told that they closed out our tab and they needed to assist the people waiting for their tables. Needless to say I won't be back.

Let me start this review by saying-I will not return to this restaurant. My friend and I went on a Sunday night and it was packed. I thought-okay that's usually a good sign. We put our names down and was told 20 minutes or so. Not a problem-we can chit chat for 20 minutes...well after you wait 20 minutes you think, "well I already waited 20 minutes. I can wait another 10 or so"..that turned into a little over a hour to sit us and that was AFTER we complained to the guy at the front that he seated a couple that came after us-his explanation didn't make any sense at all. Between watching what seems to look like delicious drinks (that we couldn't drink until we were seated) , the 2 female waitress' talking to the cashier and the bus boys arguing with the male waiters in the dining area-i was really ready to walk out-but I mean I waited an hour already! So we finally sit down and seriously the waitress really didn't want to bother with us and we were so nice to her! LOL-we order piña coladas and it took her about 20 minutes to give them to us after I saw them waiting for us (lol) by the counter. Actually, she only brought them to us because my friend asked her, "what about our drinks?" Seriously-I never had such poor service. We ordered guacamole-it was okay but it was really only smashed avocados with a few tomatoes. I had Carne a la Tampiqueña that came with rice, beans more guacamole, and a cheese enchilada. I was good. But I have had way better and the meat was tender but it also had a lot of fat all around it. Not something I wanted to even look at! Btw the drinks were $11.50 each! Honey, relax-you're not a downtown restaurant to charge such high prices!

Los magueyes is a great spot for mariscos, as far as the drink sections goes it's out of this world! You must try the shrimp cocktail with beer bottles in them!!!

This place was an excellent find. Everyone is friendly, the food is absolutely delicious & authentic. Fresh ingredients. The marinade used to season the meats are all exquisite & kudos to them using a char broiler for steak dishes. It didn't go unnoticed. I loved it

Absolutely love this place! The food is delicious and the drinks are just the cherry to it. I took my boyfriend for his first time, and he loved it! He's been wanting to go back almost every-time we pass it. As for me, I don't like seafood; however, this place completely changed it around. I'm obsessed. For anyone looking for something different, definitely give this place a try!

We had the half tray of langostinos and a taco. We each had a michelada and while I was drinking mine and I felt something hard in my drink so I spat it out and it was a piece of glass. I had to go to the waitresses to tell them because they just kept walking by while I was trying to flag one of them down. And she just took it and said thanks and then another one came to the table and asked if I wanted another and said no thanks but not to charge me for that one. When my husband went to pay, they only gave him his copy of the paid bill but it didn't say what they charged us for. So I'm pretty sure we won't be returning to this restaurant.

My friend knows I love seafood so she sent me a text of their menu while I was at work. The food is well above three stars. However, the service is horrible and you may waste a trip coming here if you think you know their restaurant hours. My friends and I arrive and we ordered our food. I had a craving for the pasta with shrimp, octopus, and scallops. My other friend ordered clams and langostinos. The pasta definitely filled me up. As we ordered our food, my friends tried their sangria and I just had water. My friends received their drinks and I patiently sat there waiting for my water. While we were eating, we noticed that the staff started putting chairs on top of the tables. We didn't think anything of it. I'm about 15 minutes into my food and I still have not received the water that I asked for so a busboy had to give me my water. Our waitress clearly was not attentive. Before we even arrived at the restaurant I asked my friend what time it closes on a Sunday. She looked on their website and it said 2am. Back to our negligent waitress. You would assume that the staff would notify you that the restaurant will close about 30 minutes to an hour as soon as you were seated. With that being said, we arrived at the restaurant about thirty minutes before it closed. I looked on yelp and the hours posted also said something different. It says the restaurant closes at 12am. In addition, the waitress did not tell us what time last call for the bar was. The table right next to us was able to get a last minute drink and of course we didn't. I'm a very respectable customer and I'm very understanding, but this is ludicrous. Please update your operation hours and maybe your staff.

We had been through the drive thru before for tacos and didn't have a problem. I would have given the tacos 4 stars if I would have rated this place based on that experience. Today we decided to dine in. What a mistake!!!! To be honest, we were greeted immediately upon our arrival and given one of the only available tables. It was pretty busy. We were welcomed at the table by the bus boy with tortilla chips, salsa and ceviche which were pretty good. The waitress came by a few minutes later to take our order and.....we really never saw her again. Terrible service!!!! We ordered a taco dinner and a molcajete. The taco dinner came about 25 mins later. Really 25 mins to make 3 tacos? The molcajete came about an hour after we ordered (about 30 mins after the tacos). It didn't even have seafood which typically takes longest!! Seriously? A piece of chicken, piece of steak, piece of cheese and 1 jalapeño with a piece if cactus?? Was it because they didn't have molcajete a to serve the dish in? The waitress could have let us know but NO she was nowhere to be seen; not until the food came. We had to eat separately; one after the other. Needless to say- we will NOT be dining here again. Food wasn't terrible; not the greatest but not bad. The service.....terrible.

Had a large shrimp cocktail, served with lines and tostadas. I also asked for a side of Mexican rice. The Cocktail was flavorful and full of shrimp. Had a bit of a kick to it which I enjoyed. The large was the perfect size for me along with the rice.

I would describe the wait staff as incompetent. No water refills. Not a single check up. Food wasn't brought out together. One person received their food as everyone was finishing up. Another was told 30 minutes after ordering that the kitchen was out of an ingredient, so their meal wasn't made altogether. There are better options in the area.

Came here due to family and friends constantly talking about this place we figured we would take my mother in law here for her birthday. it wasn't worth the 1 hour wait . Prices are way over priced waiter took the wrong order . The bill came out to $500 not worth it . I had better seafood in the city at a better price beware

WHERE SHOULD START AFTER AN HOUR WAIT Worst place to eat mexican seafood... Ordered a shrimp cocktail it tasted like the same mixture the micheladas were made of... Also ordered a michelada worst I've ever tasted it was like it was made wit celery tomatoe juice. Rather go to Islas Maria's... ALLL I COULD SAY LOOKS ARE DECEIVING NEVER AGAIN...

I'm surprised at its low rating. I really like this place: good food, chill atmosphere, and creative dishes. This place would make a killing downtown and I would be able to frequent more..

Honest review: ok the food is not that good nothing special. Better mexican food in chicago ok i been here a couple of times one time i came n there was nobody here we ordered our food n we waited for more then an hour n we got up to see what was going on n the waiter forgot so we just left

I never used to believe in the bad ratings of Yelpers, but this time they were right. This is one of the worst tasteless Mexican food. The music was too loud. The Michelada was missing calmado, tajin and lime. Our waiter was nice. Las micheladas les faltaba Calamaro, Tajín y limón. Nunca me había dejado llevar por los malos ratings de los Yelpers pero ahora veo que tienen razón uno de los peores lugares para comer. Aparte la música esta súper alto en volumen. Nuestro mesero buen chico.

The food is delicious and the drinks as well... The only issue is the waiting time... I was there for an hour... But with the food being good I guess I can't complain...

I recently was at El Maguey with my husband. Don't be fooled. Food is very pretty on the menu.....We started off with an appetizer, shrimp ceviche and it was more like a cucumber salad. Then we each had a steak taco dinner, very disappointed. The steak was bland. The salsa was watered down, no flavor. We have given this place many chances and I think I'd rather have a bologna sandwich. Sorry, never again...Very disappointing. Oh, any very loud music.....

I didn't understand why there were so many negative reviews because this place use to be amazing. My husband and I use to love this place. we had been going for the past two years but we recently stopped because things have changed so much. The last 3 time we have gone both the service and food have been horrible. The reason we didn't stop going after the first bad experience was because we had been going for a couple of years and everything was always great so we figured maybe they were just having a bad day. After that we gave them two more tries and things just kept getting worse. Its always a long wait, service is bad, the food is always salty, cold and its not always fresh. Their rice and beans were by far the worst I have ever had. Its such a shame that they added more items to their menu but their quality went down. We are for sure never going here again!

  • Maria J.

I ordered the shrimp cocktail and my friends had the grilled shrimp. I must say the food was cold, the waitress literally forgot about us for while and it was just a really bad experience. I don't recommend this place at all, not after getting allergies from the seafood.

Simple: Long wait, small place, rude and overworked waitresses. BUT, it is worth the Bull$hit!

  • Brenda M.

Not sure if I would return, this place is not disgusting but it's not a place I would recommend... Their prices are high and the quality is not. The service was okay but my waitress had a common cold and kept sneezing!! She shouldn't have been working that night.

  • Joanna J.

So I was a little apprehensive when I went to this place with my BFF because the reviews here are kinda eh. I went yesterday so we waited a while. Our server was great. Nice friendly guy. Very attentive. Food was delicious. The langostinos were on point. So good.

Drink where delicious food was ok. I had a couple of problems with it oysters we're not clean properly and the shrimp also was not clean. I don't know if other restaurants clean the line of poop off but all the shrimp we got weren't cleaned, the oyster had dirt in them but. The flavor from the levanta muertos ($60.00 tray large feed three people and left over to take home )was delicious and the oyster that didn't have dirt where pretty good we will be coming back. my brother in-law actually love what he order which wasn't any seafood he got stake and some enchiladas. I would give it a five if they kept the level of quality all thru the dishes.

I don't know why ppl go eat there, this place has insane prices and the food is not good at all!!! I had the carne asada with shrimp and the piece of meat I got was a joke, on top of that almost burned I wish I had taken a pic to show u guys just what you will get. My daughter asked for a coctel de camarones (shrimp cocktail) and she also did not like it at all it was flavorless n lack color it just looked unappetizing, she even said she'd rather have the shrimp cocktail I make at home!! At the end of the meal my mouth hurt bcz so much salt was in that food! You've been warned guys. Did a mention prices are ridiculously high!!! It hurt to pay that damn bill!!

I have been a fan of this restaurant since it opened and try to eat there at least once when I am back in town. I had always been a fan of the marinated pepper and onion mix on the table and the perfect seasoning in anything you order. I stopped by for lunch during my visit and town and was unfortunately not as excited as I used to be. There were no peppers on the table! Things change and it's been a while so that is a small adjustment I was willing to deal with. We ordered tacos and two regular Micheladas. We watched drink after drink come out and go to tables that had come in after us. We reminded the waitress and she assured us they were coming out. We then received out food and halfway through eating, the drinks finally made it. The food was amazing as always and filled a void that Minnesota simply cannot BUT I miss the decent service.

  • Laura R.

Absolutely terrible service! The waitress did not come check on me and my husband once while we were eating! We had to go get our own box to pack our food in and get the check from a different waitress. If I eat there again I will be taking it to go.

My experience here has not been good, I don't recommend this restaurant. I dined in a couple of times but decided that ordering to go was the best option. They got my order wrong a few times so I stopped coming for a while. After about a year of not ordering from here I decided to give it another shot. My husband made the order over the phone. He understands Spanish but doesn't speak it too well, on that day it took a while before someone that speaks English could take his order. He ordered a milanesa torta and some tacos, they gave him plain steak instead and didn't tell him they didn't make milanesa anymore until the order was already made. He took it anyway to try something new. A day after we ate from here I had horrible stomach pains that lasted for about a week. I don't have proof that the food from here was what made me sick, but it was the only meal I had that week that was out of my ordinary and just a day later I was sick. I will not be coming back.

I'm kinda torn here. It's a small place -we came on a Friday and got there around 6pm. The place was packed and there was a wait. We waited about an hour for a table. The drinks (micheladas) are their signature and they are pretty fantastic. We ordered two parrillas (pans of grilled meat and seafood) for the table and shared. The food was OK. It wasn't like 'blow my mind awesome' but OK. Overall, we had a good time. That said, I would come here again with coworkers but try to get there earlier and ensure the entire party was there so we could get seated early. I would probably also just order one drink, as the michelada is pretty filling and I couldn't even finish my second one (I hate to waste good beer). Overall, a good experience if we could find a little less chaotic time to go.

I don't even know where to begin with this place. Ill start off with the reason behind my friends and I went to eat here. So many people recommended this place to eat good seafood. My friend Van(also made a review below) and I love seafood. We also came here because they were supposed to be "open Late" and since we both work late we figured might as well go. When we arrived we were seated right away and given menus. Only of us there actually spoke Spanish so she placed our orders for us. I ordered oysters to start which were good and Langostinos to finish with, along with a sangria. the food itself was good the langstinos could have been spicier but everyone has a different tolerance. My sangria was ok. When the food arrived only two of us received our food right away, the other one of us was left waiting. I have already finished my oysters and my friend her cocktail when the other order arrived having him watch us eat with nothing. Aside from the food taking forever to arrive our waitress was no where to be found. multiple times we tried to get her attention to order more food and another drink but she never came around. I don't need the waitress to be waiting on us hand and foot but it would be nice to get her attention when needed. since she never came to check on us my friend who got his food late also waited until almost the end of his meal to get his water, yes I said water that is usually served to everyone as soon as they arrive. when we finally got her attention because we asked a busboy to call her we asked to order more drinks and she denied us the drinks because the bar closed. mind you she never once told us the bar was closing soon. after we got over not being able to get another drink she didn't even offer a non-alcoholic beverage she just away. not even two minutes later we hear her taking a drink order from the table next to us and she told us the bar was closed. after not being able to order drinks she disappeared again. we wanted to order more food as we ate and when she finally came to us again (only because the busboy called her) she told us we couldn't order anymore food because the kitchen was closed. mind you this entire time we are under the impression that they close at 2:00am because that is what their website states and yelp states 12:00Am, so why would the kitchen be closed at 10:30pm. not once did she tell us they were for some reason closing early and did ask us to place final orders in. after not being able to order food or drinks anymore we couldn't have felt anymore rushed out of there until the busboys started cleaning. they started placing tables and chairs on top of each other barricading us to pretty much the wall. they even started tossing buckets of water on the floor to clean WHILE WE WERE STILL EATING. I don't care how good the food was I will never be returning. 1. correct your establishment operating hours on your website and yelp 2.make a last call for food and beverages 3. might as well make your busboys servers they do a better job. 4. something I forgot to mention, allow people to split the bill. I seen your micros system its modern don't bullshit people and say its not up to date and that it doesn't allow you to split the bill because I know it clearly does you just don't want to. 5. hopefully the owner or management take into account all these negative reviews

Ordered two entrees. Prawns were awesome. Ordered a seafood dish that was octopus, ceviche, scallops and more. It did not taste fresh so I told them I did not like it and would like to order something else. Some guy in a t shirt came over and brought the dish back claiming there was nothing wrong with it and that he's never had anything sent back and that this is the best restaurant. Your service is bad, your food wasn't fresh, and you were rude. Go somewhere else.

So we ordered takeout from here after reading the reviews from people who ate in, thought we'd have better luck. Nope! Ordered taco dinner asada, a burrito, & chips & salsa. When my husband went to pick it up, there was no burrito. The hubs asked, & they claimed left & right, that I didn't order one. I call foul here. My hubs doesn't eat tomatoes or meat, & when I called to order, she asked me if I wanted everything on it. I said no, just beans, rice, cheese, lettuce. Really people, do you think I would forget to order food for my SO? Nope! So he orders again, & they didn't charge him for it. What restaurant gives you free food when the customer is at fault, as they claim? That's crazy talk! And to top it off, the food was mediocre. Really greasy tacos, which I suppose some people like-not I. Oh, & we live 10 minutes from the restaurant. Ugh:(

  • Ricky L.

Bad service, the waiter kept bringing food that we didn't order, he didn't seem to know which table ordered what and he wasn't very friendly. Then, they brought our food all at different times, half of our party was done eating when the other half was just about to start eating. The food was pretty good, I'll give them that, but I don't plan on coming here again.

Los Magueyes taqueria, this place is over rated, I've tasted better sea food the staff was at its best performance that night. Also it is quite overly crowded and cold. I do not recommend eating here.

When in on a Saturday at about 6 and it was so packed the fact that they didn't have a waiting area ? You could barley walk through i stood around for about 10 minutes before a host even asked to check us in. The food was good but the service was poor they should think about expanding there parking lot accident waiting to happen

Absolutely the best Mexican and Seafood spot in the Chicago area. Staff are very polite and customer service was great and exceeded all expectations. We were a group and all had a blast. Not one single compliant. Definitely recommend this place and will go back when I visit the area.

This is my opinion the best seafood place on the southside. When we get seafood here it never has that seafood smell nor does the food have that hard core seafood taste! Have had many plates here including ostiones chingones, langostinos, camarones a la plancha, camarones empanizados, and many more. This is THE go to place for excellent nearby seafood. They also serve mexican & draft beers here as well as micheladas to compliment the seafood. Big shoutout to the owner for hooking it up for us when we have gone, EL CHINGON

Two years later and we decided to go back. The menu is completely different and a change for the better. Lots of nice dishes, not your typical greasy stuff. The drinks look amazing! I only had a beer, but next time I'll order a cocktail. The service was much better this time around and the staff were much more attentive than last time. I can't wait to go back!

I would not recommend this place... Unless you're coming for the drinks or just for seafood.. We went on Tuesday around 6 p.m.... The place was not crowded with people that is.. There were so many flies I could not even eat in peace.. Makes me think if they didn't care about the Flies out there they must not care about the ones that they have inside were they cook either ..I had a skirt steak that came with rice and beans..The rice was sooo hard like from days ago..The beans were not even edible.. My kids were so disgusted we just had to leave.. Not to mention everything is so overpriced nobody ate and we ended up paying more than $100. Also there busboy kept on taking the plates from our table without even asking and was so rude about it... I would not go again ..my husband on the other hand like their drinks..

    (1)
  • Lisette H.

Pricey , not worth it, they give you a big piece of steak but it has a lot of fat so in reality it's not that big, their drinks are creative and good, place is not terrible, but for what u are paying I rather go to tequila on 57th and archer for steak , the copa magueyes seafood cocktail was good though,

  • Eddie S.

To start off the service was really bad. the hostess was somewhere in the back doing who knows what. When we did found her she was mad that we wanted to be sat down. After waiting for a good hour they sat us down only because we told a waiter we had been waiting for an hour. Once they sat us down on a dirty table , the waitress took about a year or two to get our drinks. I personally hate when busboys just wipe everything off the table, onto the floor. They didnt even pick it up. So the floor is riddled with shrimp parts, liquor, and other garbage. The only reason why its getting four stars is because the food was amazing. I ordered a grilled fish which was delicious and my parents ordered different types of shrimp which were good. Wish it just had better service.

Plenty of Green Peppers on the $14 Carne Asada SOMETHING LOST IN TRANSLATION Wheres the Beef?? LOL . "In Mexican cuisine, carne asada (literally 'grilled meat' (specifically beef), though any type of dry heat cooking may be used)[1] is made from thin marinated beef steak, usually skirt steak, flank steak or flap steak.[2] It is usually cooked with a certain amount of searing, to impart a heavily barbecued flavor.[3] Carne asada can be served as a main dish or as an ingredient in other dishes. Carne asada is often served with fresh guacamole, grilled onions, black beans or frijoles charros, rice, tortillas and fresh salsa.[3][2] Carne asada can also be topped with chismol or pico de gallo."

Went in on a Sunday afternoon for a dinner party for my niece and nephew, BIG MISTAKE. Not only was wait over 2hours but the security guard/hostess was a jerk and very rude, he wasn't welcoming at all. The waiter suggested a parillada that would surely accommodate our party as to were we informed him that not everyone would be eating seafood, so we ordered a few taco dinners for the kids and such but unbeknownst to us he still put in a parillada order for 15 people which included 3 children under the age of 2 and two children not eating seafood. The waiter was inattentive, never brought out water that was for was asked for twice. Parillada included lobster which was over cooked and inedible and seafood mix was smothered in hot sauce. I must mention that I went into the men's room and the floor was like a swamp and gross. Once we received the bill we were shocked that it was over $600!! For that kind of money we could have gone somewhere else and will do so next time.

Worst restaurant ever! Worst food worst service. I should have listened to the reviews. Even the drinks were hideous. The shrimp in the micheladas tasted disgusting. My camarones a la diabla were ok but not worth the price. The rice was bland. My husbands langostinos, again, good but not for the price. Our friend got a filete, she almost puked. The waitress was so nonchalant. Had no personality. I was so mad my husband and his friend decided to leave a $20 tip. She did not deserve it. She only came once to check on us didn't bother to bring the bill. The busboy worked harder than her ass. Ugh I hate waitresses who are so lazy. Maybe because ive been a biser and I know that at the end of the day if the waitress get $300 in tip that shift she only gives $10 lousy dollars to the buser. Injustice in my opinion. I told my husband to give the buser the tip but he didnt have cash. But never will return. Id rather go to las islas marias in the north side. Service is a hit or miss there. But atleast I know my food and drinks will be great!

Service has terrible. Our dinner was served before our drinks. Food was nothing to brag about. Ceviche was dry. It took the server 10 minutes to get our check. We were served lemons instead of limes. Definitely overpriced, would rather spend my time and money at la Palapa

I was really disappointed with this place. All my friends rave about it. I went with my two friends and they were all about the micaladas which were decent but the food was just okay. The complementary civiche was really good then we ordered the shrimp one which was not very good. The longostinos were ok and my friend ordered the fries which were really bad. The wait was way to long for a table but the service was good.

I have to say I was disappointed on my last visit with the food. I've eaten here a few times since it has been opened and it seems that either they have changed hands or cooks, not sure. The meat on my tacos (steak & cesina) were both dry and tough and the rice & beans were just ok. The only thing that was tasty was the picadillo tacos but maybe even just a little salty. I will have to say that our waitress was wonderful. Very good customer service.

This place has the best carne asada burrito. The only bad thing that I can say about this place is that sometimes the drive thru is closed other than that I would have given it 5stars.

WOW, talk about a let down. I drive past this place ever single day as I drive to work, so I finally decided to stop in. I spent $25 on a meal that I thought was going to be delicious, well at least that's what it looked like on the picture. Then I got my meal, boy oh boy was it disappointing! The shrimp that they gave me looked like the shrimp that you would get in a fried rice order from the Chinese restaurant, nowhere near the size that they indicated in the picture. The skirt steak that I got was supposed to be at least 8 ounces, I don't think it was anything more than 4 ounces tops. Let's just say I will never go back to this place again, very disappointing, very expensive, and not worth the money and not worth the food. 2 stars simply because the server was kind and prompt.

Oy, This place used to be great. My parents would bring their friends here and they would leave full & satisfied with a look on their faces that was equal parts joy and disbelief at what they just ate. Then they got greedy. They get lots of business, especially since their location is prime, so why did they chose to start using nasty, cheap cuts of meat? They also have various cooks who have no desire to keep consistency within the restaurant. One day the beans would be kind of dry and bland, the next visit they were runny and salty. Now, my family and I just can't go there anymore. When we drive past, I see their eyes look at Los Magueyes like looking at a lost love. "That place used to be good.." I'm sorry, Los Magueyes, there's just too many other options out there and you won't see me anymore.

I was passing by here with a friend and decided to stop by. It was a Friday around 12 pm, and it was decently busy, among screaming kids and yelling people. We sat down and received a tray of ships and salsa, which I did not try because we found a piece of hair in our chips. Our waiter was......off. Took him almost 5x to get our order right and actually remember what we wanted. We received the food in a decent amount of time. I got the oysters and tacos, they were decent. Nothing amazing, the oysters were super small, some missing the actual oysters but covered in cheese instead. Yawwwwn, not visiting this place again unless I'm craving a taco and this is the only place available, which wont happen.........

Yummy! Everything we've ever had was yummy. Service is a little slow, and the staff isn't very helpful but the food makes up for it.

Really good place, food is amazing and and the staff is friendly i would definitely come back and recommend this place if you like Mexican and sea food. By the way ask for the "LA PERRONA" michelada.

I'm pretty sure this place is stupid packed on Chicago fire game nights. Mexican food is probably my favorite cuisine and this place food is decent. All I got was tacos which is what I normally get when I try a mexican place for the first time, because if you can't make those you can't make anything. The steak tacos were good and wonderfully seasoned. The cecina taco I could of did without because it wasn't tender and made me gag a little. I even took the risk and ordered a chorizo taco. Everybody doesn't know how to make chorizo, but when its done I want that stuff to be borderlined burnt. Thats real chorizo, and their chorizo tacos were good. I got a side order of cebollitas that seemed like they were fried but they still lacked any real flavor.

Service is horrible, the beans and the rice are so dry I nearly choked. Nothing special about this place. Prices are higher than other Mexican restaurants.

If I could give this place no stars I would!!! DO NOT waste your time coming to this dump of a restaurant! The husband and I came here today for dinner because it was recommended by friends... We get there and it was busy and was told the wait would be about 45 mins... So we stayed and were seated in about 25mins... We were given menus and waited for our waiter to come...10mins later we still waited...we asked the bus boy who our waiter was and told us he would be right with us... Nothing... We asked the host and she said the same thing...we waited some more and 20 minutes later he still didn't stop by...we ended up leaving because no one ever showed up! It was the worst service ever!!! Don't waste your time!!!

Intoxicated by the scent of grilled meats...I wish I would've visited this place sooner--like so many I've passed this place a number of times and decided to go with hubby and a friend. WOW. Just pulling up into the parking lot made me yearn to go in because it smelled so damn good! After looking at the menu and being able to see the open kitchen--my decision for carne asada was easily made. The place was packed when we got there even on a Sunday afternoon---so that's a good sign. I had the steak taco dinner and my husband had the carne asada al carbon dinner plate and a large horchata to wash it all down with. The amount of meat in the tacos was quite impressive, I opted for the traditional onions and cilantro topping. Very tasty. The steak for the dinner was very well seasoned and came with a lovely package of very authentic home-made looking tortillas, guac, rice, beans, and natural cut looking fries to sop up the steak juices. The green and red salsa were ok but wished it was a tad bit spicier, luckily each meal also came with a side of pickled carrots, jalepenos, garlic, cauliflower. Our friend also had the taco dinner, she had one steak taco and 2 of the pork tacos. She loved it and said the pork tacos were one of the best she'd ever had. The horchata was also very good, not too sweet and not too cinnamony. We took our order to go, but definitely will be back to partake in some sit down dining yumminess. Take out service was quick and efficient. Order was taken promptly and food was hot and fresh. They are open late--so definitely a plus, til 4am on Friday and Saturday, and midnight all other days.

Definitely the worse place to eat. We decided to give this place a chance since our ordinary place (Jalisco's Restaurant) on burbank is a bit far off. And during a stressful day of work the least thing you want is to feel disappointment of the food you eat. The meat was literally raw. ( who doesn't cook chicken all the way?) and the beans were rotten they were like sour. When i called to complain after we had wasted all our lunch and told them that the food was uncooked and that their beans were rotten they said I couldn't speak with the manager and left me waiting on the line for the last ten minutes of my lunch :(

Stopped by yesterday for take out. Took home lots of food, tacos, chimichanga, quesadillas, gorditas, lots of stuff. The food is very reasonably priced. About average with other tacos joints. I had read the reviews and was looking forward to it. The food was decent, tasty enough to eat, but I have to say I was not impressed. A lot of the food lacked "flavor", no seasoning, no salt. Just eh, average. I gave them three stars because it was good, and fast service.Got enough food for five people, it was under $40. The food was better than some places, but I do not know if I will be back.

I've passed this place many times driving north on Harlem before trying. In fact, I noticed it even before I noticed Toyota Park, which is right across the street. "I really want to try this Mexican place that's right across from that huge power plant", I found myself saying. Well I eventually learned soccer games are played at that establishment, and I eventually came to try Los Magueyes. One of the things that intrigued me about Magueyes is they specialize in grilled meat ("al carbon"). So if you're vegetarian, you lose. I opted for the tacos de asada dinner, and my girl got chorizo quesadillas dinner. My tacos were pretty awesome. They come authentic style with onions, cilantro, and salsa verde. The steak was juicy with a nice lime flavor. The girls quesadillas were good as well, but the chorizo did not seem like your typical store bought chorizo. It seemed meatier, and lacked that robust flavor it's renown for. But she ate them, and they weren't bad. The rice and beans were good. Nothing spectacular though. They do accept credit/debit with a $10 minimum. All in all, a pretty solid place to eat. If you desire to come here with less of a crowd, make sure nothing is going on at Toyota Park, cause people do like to stop in and eat before and after.

I have wanted to stop by and try this place for years. Located kitty corner to Toyota Field/Stadium. Stop in looks like any basic Mexican restaurant, so didn't know what to expect. Waitress brought us chips and salsa. Both were very tasty and freshly made. I ordered the bistec HUGE platter with chile relleno, chorizo and a cacti and my wife had two tacos. Just to let you know all the platters are HUGE. Enough for two! Steak on my platter was very juicy. I am not a fan of chiles or the cacti, but both were very good! The only down side was the fresh cut fries were very oily. Waitress was very friendly and accommodating when my son spilled his drink. Bathroom are clean and updated. The restaurant may do even better if they remodel and move away from your typical Taqueria. Nice menu and presentation of food is a set above from a Taqueria.

It was February (yes, I know I'm late) and I was terribly, snottily, heavy-headedly, impressively walking plague-ish sick. It was fairly awful. I'd just driven to my guy's house in Burbank in a probably not-great-for-driving fog of my own creation. He took one look at me and told me I needed soup. I smiled weakly and unloaded onto his sofa. He asked me what I was doing and I told him I was going to pass out watching bad tv while he made me soup. He laughed and told me to get into his truck; we were going to Los Magueyes. I didn't want to move. I whined, asking him if he was sure he didn't have anything in packet or can form that he could just whip up in the kitchen and leave me to my snotty tissues, red nose and swollen throat. Oh, yes. I was a joy to be with. Nevertheless, I got into the truck and we drove to this place and he ordered a bunch of stuff, including a beef soup which came with some extra hot sauce and a bunch of lime wedges and radish slices. My heavens. The appetite I'd kissed goodbye sometime the previous week was back and enjoying life. My throat weakly coaxed the soup down and my nose finally began to run on its own. My head cleared. I took off my ever-present scarf. I smiled; my lips cracked. I didn't even care about the sting of the lime juice. I was actually TASTING SOMETHING, and it was good. The man had some other stuff which I honestly couldn't remember if you'd asked me as we were leaving the place, but I do recall he cleaned his plate. I knocked out as soon as we got back home but from then on my cold was on its way out. I credit the beef soup at this magical place. Now I know where to go when I don't wanna go anywhere. ;)

I have been driving past this place on my way to work for what seems like forever, but the day I finally ate there, I was satisfied. I had the chicken torta dinner, which was completely satisfying. The restaurant gave out a comfortable family/friendly environment, decked with traditional knick-knacks from the Hispanic culture. Another plus was the arrival of the food was amazingly quick. Over all I suggest you head to that little cover restaurant, whether you're alone, with a friend or even your family, you entitled I a great time!

Service here is great, food is served quickly!Because of the open layout you can see the cooking area so you can feel safe your food is done right. Tacos "Al Pastor" (pork) and "Cecina" (thinly cut beef) are yummy, pair that up with "Horchata" (rice water) and your set to go. Perfect before or after a game/concert/event since its right across the street from Toyota Park, easy to find and get to. Just a tip, due to traffic on event/concert/game days its actually better to leave your car parked at the stadium and walk across the street and eat, by the time you get out from eating you won't have to deal with the mess of people trying to exit the stadium parking all at once.

This place used to be the bomb and was a better alternative than the Los Comales down the street. The steak tortas were phenomenal and the horchata was pretty damn good. After not coming to this place after a few months, the quality of the food has gone down dramatically. The horchata is inconsistent, and the steak tortas a just too damn greasy, and I think they're using lower quality meat now or something, cause it just doesn't taste the same anymore.

This place is now on the itinerary for every trip out to see a Fire match. I can't tell you how busy it might get because there were two matches last night (SuperLiga) and we left after the first so while the place was busy we readily got a table. It all started with delicious salsa. This wasn't your chunky salsa if that's your pleasure but truly delicious...perhaps because it was fairly salty. Lots of nice veggies option but I didn't ask if there were black beans to substitute for the refried since I didn't see black beans anywhere on the menu. So cheese enchiladas in verde sauce it was for me. This is my standard order for every mexican restaurant. I consider myself a comparison shopper on this particular plate. Lo Magueyes did a fine job with them - very light and flavorful. My dinner companion had two meals, as he is wont to do. He wasn't crazy about his steak torta. He love, love, loved the chile relleno which was on special. They offered him flour or corn tortillas to go with them, which he didn't use and we felt bad about wasting them. Both his meals were gi-normous so he had some to take home. (Not sure how many days I will be suffering the after effects. Oh well.) Oh, he had an horchata as well. He is a comparison shopper on that. He found it quite sweet compared to others so it wasn't his favorite but okay. The service was really superb. The wait staff seem to share checking in on the tables and throughout our meal they came with pitch-perfect timing (no food was in our mouths!). In the end though we had to wait forever for the check and ended up having to get up to ask for it. All in all, I would highly recommend Los Magueyes. A lot of good food for extremely (ridiculously) reasonable prices.

We have been meaning to give this place a shot for quite some time now. Sure, it isn't in the most convenient of locations but the food most indefinitely made up for that. Good thing we did stop because I was RAVENOUS! We sat ourselves in a comfy little booth and our waitress attended to us almost immediately with Chips, salsa, and the carrot/ cauliflower/ jalapenos in vinegar in tote. We ordered a large horchata (which came in a giant glass that was like a liter) and it was amazing. Everything on the menu sounded so delicious and a great price too! I got the calling card of Los Magueyes, Carne Asada al carbon. My dish came with a side of guacamole (it was mediocre at best..needed some salt and lime juice), cebollas verde, and of course rice and beans. when the plate came to me it was still sizzling and they conveniently placed it on one of those handy sizzle plates to keep it hot and do a little carry over cooking. Corn tortillas on the side please. It was amazing and I now see why they take pride in making this perfectly cooked meat. It was tender and juicy and seasoned with magic. I think I actually muttered something along the lines of, "this is the BOMBDOTCOM!!!!!!!". I will never say it again, I promise. My counterpart had the chicarones verdes(meaty pork rinds cooked in green tomatillio sauce) and al pastor (seasoned pork) gorditas. They were equally as delicious as my plate (because he was kind enough to share), if not better. It tasted fresh and was absolutely hands down.... the best al pastor he has had in years(trust me, he is a tough cookie to please). They service was speedy, the food sat well in my stomach, and the place was clean. I have found my new Mexican joint. I had to bust one star for being in a weird location and the guacamole wasn't my favorite part of the dish. The prices are reasonable. When you come, bring your appetite...and me. See you there!

My parents took my husband and I out for dinner here this past Saturday and we were blown away. I know a good refried bean when I can't feel the wraths the next morning. Outstanding and delightful. I had the fajitas with beans and rice, but was AMAZED by the sight of the Molcajeteada. Behold a wonder for the eyes. I probably will never order it, but coax my husband into getting it instead. It's a giant piggy bowl with 4 legs and face (cute!!) filled with high quality steak, chicken, chorizo, veggies and a hunk of Mexican cheese. This is a meal for say about 4 people, give or take. Great service and friendly owner. I would make the drive to come out here again!

This place rocks! I ate carne en su jugo or juice beef meat, OMG, you won't believe how this one is going to like it, also I requested a chicken salad with avocado, green peppers bell, lettuce and of course plenty of grilled chicken on top for only $7.65 or something like that prefer to try only with lemon cauze I'm on diet this week... but with this food Establishment you can't, salsa roja better than green one. Ciao

The quality varies from Yay to Woohoo! (aka 4-5 starts) However there ability to consistently mess up pick up orders drops them down to just an OK. Los Magueyes is not terribly out of my way home going home on the IL-55 corridor and I don't mind one bit swinging by to pick up dinner on my way home. However, out of 5 pick ups, 3 times things were missing. Not little things on huge orders, but like on a 7 steak taco order with chips and salsa and getting home to find there is no salsa. Now, why do I still want to go back? Well, the chips and salsa are spicy hot, but I can't get enough of them! Plus at $1.99 for a Styrofoam cup full of salsa and a packed full lunch bag worth of chips it extremely reasonable. (pay the extra buck for an extra bag of chips and it's about perfect ratio wise) The steak tacos I love, highly HIGHLY recommend with onion and cilantro. They will put lettuce and cheese by default, but pass it by and go for the onion and cilantro. I've also had there pork, it's on a vertical spit with a pineapple on top. Not bad, but still big fan of the steak. I hope they get there order situation squared, feel bad giving them only 3 starts but with the mix ups I just can't go higher.

I drive past this place every day on my way home from work. I was very excited when I saw it being built and couldn't wait to try it out. There are quite a few Mexican places in the area...Zaca Taco, Jalisco's, Comales...just to name a few. But Magueyes is on par if not better than all of them. It's new so it's very clean, and there's lots of space. The service is very quick, we went with a group of 10+ and the food came just as quickly as when I've gone with a group of 4. The food is fairly consistent with most Mexican places, but they have chargrilled meat (sooo good!), and it's not nearly as greasy as you'll find elsewhere. Last time I went to a Fire game Magueyes wasn't built yet, but I will definitely be stopping by here for some pre/post game deliciousness this season. I highly recommend it for any Mexican food lovers out there! But then again, who doesn't love Mexican?

Service is good, food on the other hand, well, let's just say I came home with a bad taste in my mouth. You know the feeling you get when you have greasy food. Now I regret ordering the steak gordita. Why, why did I get that? I should have settled for a taco. My husband had a steak, an al pastor(pork) and a barbacoa taco. He preferred the pork taco. They also have a drive thru. Might give it another try. Maybe.

Great mexican food at a great price. I got 2 steak tacos, order of rice and beans, and side order of sour cream. My coworker got the 3 taco dinner plate. The size of the tacos was normal, but everything else was BIG. Rice and beans were two big scoops; side order of sour cream, was like 1/2 a carton from the grocery store. The chips and salsa was plentiful. Total for the meal was $15. YUM, def. will come back for lunch.

My buddy took me to this place before the US Men's Soccer match vs. Trinidad & Tobago. It is perfectly placed right by Toyota park and I cannot think of a better place to eat prior to a match. The atmosphere was lively, and while it was busy, it wasn't cramped. We walked in and right away a waitress stopped to welcome us. I was interested in comparing their tacos to my usual taco place, which I like a lot. Los Magueyes did not disappoint! I went with the 3 chicken taco dinner with rice & beans, which was plenty. I felt full through the whole soccer match. The salsa on the tacos was very unique, but incredibly good. The first taco was good, but each taco got better and better. Speaking of salsa, it was the real deal. Pretty spicy. I'd usually say it was too hot for my taste, but I kept eating it anyways. Good stuff. The only knock is that their lemonade was kinda bland. But as for the food, you can't miss. And of course, it is much, much cheaper than buying at the stadium.

I came here for lunch last week for the first time with some co-workers. Parking was really easy as they have an adequately sized private lot. We walked in, sat down (there were five of us) and the waitress got our drink order. I didn't notice any particularly mouth-watering smells when we were inside, and nothing bad either. They serve pop in cans, which is a little different than what I'm used to, and the waitress didn't seem to speak/understand English completely so we had a little difficulty with our orders. Fortunately, one of our party members spoke a little spanish and confirmed our orders with the waitress. While we waited, we watched some spanish soap operas that they play on the TVs throughout the dining area. The food was ready in a short time and I enjoyed the asada tacos with cilantro and cheese. I've honestly had better tasting asada tacos but these were acceptable. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their food as well. It took a long time to get our check and a to-go box, though. I didn't have to pay for my meal but prices looked fair in the menu. I'm gonna give this place another go and I'll update my review when I do. This place is 4-star capable, IMO.

Just had their pozole and it is the worst I've ever had. Waterdown SALTY broth and the meat is chunks of "strong to chew" meat. Okay so then I try the torta de milanesa...bland sogginess. I am mexican and love my authentic food, but this is the worst. One star was too much.

  • Whosbaad K.

All I have to say is GO NOW! The tortas & steak tacos are the only dishes that I've tried, and it tastes great. The steak is grilled well done, and only once has it been a little chewy. But even then, the meat was so well seasoned that it didn't even matter. Prices are reasonable, and service for takeout is fast.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
