John's is a great dive. If you want an elegant dinner, you have to go somewhere else. The food and service is usually very good and the prices are great. They have a large selection and the menu is the typical family resturant style. It is great comfort food. The decor is dive but my wife and I enjoyed many lunches and breakfasts there.

Great and tasty menu selections for your typical breakfast items. There are a few specialties which sounded really good but haven't tried them as of yet. If you like coffee, the service is extremely fast for fill up's. I would have a sip and my cup would be filled right back to the rim. I actually had to pull my cup away just to keep them from filling it. Definitely one of the better picks for a breakfast diner in Belvidere.

Don't expect anything fancy.... this is the best hole-in-the-wall, cash-breakfast-dive ever, with friendly staff who have worked there for ages. Breakfast is definitely their specialty. Decor is old, but welcoming and home-ey, and for anyone who loves family restaurants, this place is where its at. Ask for Bonnie, she's a staple waitress.

Since 1965, about the most important thing in Belvidere, Illinois, just east of Rockford on US Highway 20, has been the Chrysler assembly plant. In the past, they have manufactured the Omni, Neon, New Yorker, Imperial, and Fifth Avenue. More than 4,000 workers plied their trade at one time. Today the plant cranks out Jeep Patriots, Compass', and Dodge Darts, but with significant help from 780 robots in the body plant. All not relevant to the fact that for a similar life span, Uncle John's has been cranking out copious quantities of home cooking at extremely fair pricing. It's one of those places that if you want to know anything that's going on in town, or anything about anybody, there'll be somebody that knows something at the eatery. I ordered two eggs with ham steak and rye toast. They also bump your egg order by one for "added value.' Classic breakfast, deftly prepared at 65% of the prices most similar places charge. Two full breakfasts and coffees, and I was out the door for an even $13

I finally decided to eat here now I must say the price is reasonable the portions are great but yes there is a but i had the eggs hash browns and hamburger steak my hash browns were too hard was too much crisp the eggs were wonderful the steak had no seasoning it was very juicy but no seasoning and it tasted like a cow like raw even though well cooked my husband on the other hand loved it so that's why I gave it 3 stars personally I won't do breakfast again I will try lunch and review again

I've driven past this place a gajillion times and so finally this morning I decided it was time to visit this crowded joint. I usually judge a breakfast place by its biscuits and gravy. So I set out to see if this place was all I thought it'd be. There was supposed to be 2 eggs, over easy. After two delicious cups of coffee, my piping hot food came out. Not 2 but a bonus 3 eggs! Our waitress, Theresa I believe, was very friendly and did a great job keeping my cup full. The biscuits were amazing! The 3 runny eggs were stacked on the gravy which was thick and flavorful. It was a trifecta of perfecta! Very solid place with many regulars and definitely a place I will be going to in the future on hopefully a regular basis. Nothing fancy but perfect for breakfast and friends on a dreary December morning!

We were driving west on I-90 and looking for a good local breakfast after the wasteland surrounding O'Hare and found this place. Tasty, generous and very reasonably priced breakfast. The people are nice and the coffee keeps coming. The Swedish pancakes are delicious and different. Order lightly, portions are very large.

Love the food. Normally you ask for 2 eggs or 2 pancakes and you get 3! The staff are very friendly and makes sure your visit is good! It's also very cheap! I recommend for people who love breakfast as much as I do!

Spoiled brat suburbanites and wanna-be "foodies" need to go somewhere else and free up a table for those of us who want a good meal with no surprises or experimental offerings. Gordon Ramsey and friends can go the heck away and leave this oasis of normalcy just as it is. This is a no-frills, no booze, cash only American restaurant that puts the emphasis on the food. Order 2 eggs and get 3... what is that from? This is some sort of tradition with Uncle John's...I'll take it. As a suburban transplant 10+ years ago, with a lot of deep south and farming roots, this is what I was looking for as the look and feel of Belvidere. Good old American food and friendly people. Eat here and see for yourself. If you are looking for a good home style meal, you won't be disappointed. I give it 5-eggs out of 5 (that would be 6 Uncle John's)!

Love this joint. Cash only hole in the wall with great food and service. An awesome and affordable breakfast and a good cup of Joe. I noticed they have done some remodeling recently.

Many people have encouraged me to try the Breakfast here..... so this morning I did. Well so much for the order 2 get 3 stories, or perhaps that's only for regulars news flash the regulars look like they are ready to die.... the future regulars could be me and the friend that I brought with me on the recommendations others had given me. It sucks when you promise someone a great breakfast and don't get it. The Pancakes tasted old and even to the point of being tough.... the Bacon was just weird.... not sure if it was the way it was cooked or if it's cheap bacon to begin with. Coffee was weak, I wish I had ordered Juice instead. Probably not coming back and I would never recommend to anyone, with the fear that they would have a similar experience to me..... POOR... The only positive was that the server was very pleasant and she took our order well and checked back with us several times.... I just didn't want to complain in person. And I guess my complaints are only due to other friends of mine building up my expectations before arriving. When there are better places so close by you have to live up to your reputation! Sorry to have to be honest with my review, but I hope this helps your business improve.

Sure, this isn't fine dining, but for what it is, it's good. The service is awesome--fast, friendly, helpful. I agree with the other reviewer--if you really want 2 eggs, order 1! They always bring you extra! Lunch is good, too. The soup is nice when it's cold out.

Lots of good breakfast and lunch diner fare. An abundance of food, but not much of anything out of the ordinary. It is a nice touch they ask if you would like onions, peppers, etc. in your hash browns. Good sized omelets with ingredients of your choice, but they were a tad overcooked. Toast was buttered and hot, eggs cooked properly. The decor on the outside and the decor of the interior are drastically different. A good clean place for a large amount of food at an exceptionally low price. Two people can eat a large breakfast with additional sides and beverages for $10, not something one can do at many places these days. Very attentive servers who constantly refill things and ask up front if you want condiments. Good service, good food, exceptional prices

Been here 3 times and each time I gain 10 pounds. They serve huge amounts, but beware...they ALWAYS give you more than you order. Order two eggs, you get three. Order one pancake, you get two. Order a 3-egg omelet and you get a 4-egg omelet. The decor is small town greasy spoon and the food is perfect for it. It is not a 5-star restaurant, but when you are looking for small-town diner food...it is 5-star.
