Terrible service, we waited a while to get seated, the place was empty. Meanwhile they stood there doing nothing. The waiter sat us down and he asked for our drinks as we were sitting, this is our first time here we dont know the menu. Then after he takes the drink order he asks us if we "still need time to look at the menu" well no sh**!! The food was good, we had to ask for refills on our drinks rather then him just doing it. There was a table directly behind us that was dirty the whole time we we were there. It was a terrible time, and there were a couple of things i asked for from the manager which he totally didn't bring condiments and such. The place would probably be wayyyyyy better if they had a brand new smiley staff.

What a joke!? Service was awful... Food was below average... Worst part was, their high chair for our baby was filthy with dirt. While we were wiping it w our wet towels, the smart waiteress asked us if we need rag to wipe-clean their high chair better(???) Like it was our job to clean their stuff before usage!!! Waste of time and money!

Love taking the kids here on Monday nights. Free kids meals after 4pm and a guy making balloon animals! Good food, great ice cream and friendly staff.

Rubber eggs. Raw potatoes. Service about as slow (and bright) as molasses. Oh, and they "proudly serve" Hormel, which pretty much speaks for itself. Other customers complained during our visit. Hard pass!

We've been coming to Colonial for years, and it just keeps getting better and better! Their menu has a fantastic variety of foods, and you can eat Breakfast any time! The staff is very pleasant and helpful. This is my favorite family restaurant!!

Again I thought I would try Colonial once again. The fries were barely warm, the burgers were pretty greasy. The ketchup was empty. It took 20 minutes for us to get our meal. When I went to pay the bill, the manager, Daniel saw me standing there but kinda ignored me. The waitress had to come over & ring me up. She explained that they had 4 people quit recently. Now, what does that tell you. It's too bad they quit, but is that my problem? Why should I have to suffer because they are under staffed. Unless they make some great improvements I really doubt that we will be coming back. That goes for a lot of other people that we know.

As far as restaurants go, this one is good. It's kid friendly, so of course it's not stellar. I really only ever go for breakfast or brunch. And of course, the ice cream is good.

I'm a pretty frequent customer, so don't let 3 stars dissuade you. They're good at what they do. Ice cream creations are high quality and reasonably priced. The "standard" food is done similiarly to typical family style restaurants. The kitchen sink is fun and a great banana split. If you're looking for ice cream, this is the place micro-locally. There are some other great ice cream shops too a little more macro-local. The kids seem to like the place, and adults have a pretty easy time finding something to enjoy themselves too.

The food is junk, but the service was pretty good. I went here primarily for the Ice Cream. It was one of those days, you've had them before too, I'm sure. My wife and I ordered the Ultimate Appetizer Platter, and nothing had much flavor except the curds... I could eat a million of those little scrumptious curds. Much better than A&W and Culver's. Than we ordered ice cream. She got the PBF Chipper and I got the Minto Oreo Chipper. I didn't try her's and she didn't try mine because the two flavors would have been horrible together. But I thought it was a nice change of pace. Sometime Oberweis, as good as they are, is not my first pick.

This is one of the best family restaurants in Aurora. The prices are decent, the atmosphere is nice (your kids are always the loudest), and the food is yummy, especially their quesadillas (honestly for a non-authentic restaurant they are!!). I have probably been here around 50 or so times and the food never gets old. Plus their dessert is pretty delicious!

This is a fantastic diner blocks from my apartment. We go here regularly. For breakfast, the portions are huge. My husband and I tend to order one meal and then a side or two for the two of us because otherwise we just have too much food. The skillets are amazing. So are any of the pancakes. For dinner, the patty melt with a veggie burger is wonderful. The sweet potato fries are also awesome. The ice cream is wonderful. It all tastes so creamy. Plus, they are frequently running specials ($1.10 sundaes in May! $.50 cones in July) so it actually keeps the costs pretty reasonable. The servers are so friendly and wonderful.

The only meal that's worth considering is breakfast, and even breakfast isn't that great. My daughter loves the place because of the decor and the ice cream - she is 3.

I'm a big fan of Colonial. Growing up in the Fox Valley area, it's just where you go. But this location was lacking in many areas. I'm crestfallen to give a low score to a chain that holds so many memories, but... Even for a semi-busy Saturday, our service was scattered, to say the least. My entree was cold when I received it, and if I wanted to ask for it to be reheated, the waiter was nowhere to be found. Try another location or another day, Colonial is still a solid stop to bring the family for a night out.

I love this place. It's really nice inside. It is a little pricey, but you get a good size amount of food. The staff is all really nice. My family is a regular and they always remember us. They really do need to stop changing some menu items. Like the turkey club, don't change the bread!! Lol. But over all, really nice place for every occasion and every meal.

Average restaurant. The place is pretty clean, staff is friendly and prices reasonable.

A cool family diner feel in a chain restaurant. My family and I frequent Colonial for casual brunch or breakfast. The prices are reasonable and the portions aren't extremely large. We have checked out a couple of other Colonial locations in the Fox Valley Area but this one is our favorite, it's the most comfortable. They have some pretty tasty classics like the Chicken Pot Pie, Pancakes, Quesadillas. Usually the service is on point, but sometimes it is scattered. Overall though its a good deal and a comfy family spot. I only give a three star rating because it's a chain and sometimes the service is sketchy. The food is a solid 4. Don't forget to try some of their awesome ICE CREAM!!

First off, the decor. Is it great? No. It's decorated with pictures of cats on hamburger buns, the Three Stooges, and Elvis Presley. But my kids do get a kick out of the picture of cats wrestling. However, it is clean if not a little outdated. The food. I can understand how some would equate it to Baker's Square. But I don't really mind Baker's Square, actually. And I believe Colonial is heads and shoulders above Baker's Square. Their meatloaf panini is incredible and their cornbread (when they haven't run out) is probably the best I've ever had at a non-soul food restaurant. The patty-melt is greasy as hell, but delicious nonetheless. And their cherry Coke is Coca-Cola mixed with cherry syrup. Awesome. It is a little pricey, but not ridiculous. Dessert. They are known for their ice cream for good reason. Best peppermint ice cream EVER. And the vanilla is pretty damn good. Service. Well, that's hit or miss. If the place is busy, good luck. I've had some of the best waiters and waitresses ever wait on me here and some others who appeared to disappear into the Bermuda Triangle at times. Overall, it's a family diner. If you're expecting something extraordinary, then don't eat at a diner. If you want some good comfort food then give it a try. If you're disappointed in the wait staff, give it a second try. You might get lucky with better service.

This is my local breakfast stop if I have a Dr. appointment or something in the area. The breakfasts are usually pretty good but wasnt extremely impressed by their dinner offerings. a great place for a good breakfast but anything else I'll go elsewhere!

Born and raised in Aurora, IL...and live only a few minutes from this restaurant. My family goes here at least 3-4 times a month. I've been going there for years. I don't know why it hasn't received better reviews! The atmosphere is really nice and kid friendly! Staff is wonderful. THEIR FOOD IS AWESOME....breakfast anytime...and they even know me and my "special request" (bring out a plain waffle with a pound of butter, bottle of whip cream, and bottle of syrup and I'll dump it all on myself). Seriously, they bring it...and I DO!

I had a Vesuvio Panini and it is absolutely the most delicious sandwich I have ever eaten! But then again, I have not had a bad meal at Colonial. Great family restaurant.

I'm not a big fan because it's a pretty expensive meal, mostly Baker's Square-quality food and not great service. It's hit-or-miss - you get an awesome server one time, and next time you think they forgot they had your table. Worst of all, they allow and I think encourage clowns. We taught our daughter to fear clowns, so no Monday night mayhem for us. Plus, I'm not a proponent of encouraging people to eat google-sundaes such as the Kitchen Sink - for which you receive a free bumper sticker. If I ate ten scoops of ice cream, I'd deny it!

Not sure why Colonial hasn't gotten better reviews? I really like it. I find the atmoshpere to be just fine, fits the theme of the restaurant. They have a turkey salad sandwich that is really good! Thei Chili is great, they have really good cornbread, good breakfast, good orange chicken mea, meatloaf is good, have gotten fish here that is good. Their ice cream is really really good! Especially the chocolate peanut butter, it has great chunks of peanut butter in it. It is priced well, just may seem to be more expensive because you cant leave there without getting dessert. Mondays I think kids eat free, and if you sign up for their email club they send coupons & specials quite often. Service has always been good for me there.

This place is terrible. French fries were dripping with oil as were the chips we ordered. They were the first French fries in my life that I couldn't finish...completely inedible.

This place has awesome food hands down but the waitress never came back, the busboy (Oscar) stood at the next table with his big mouth yapping the whole time and not a manager in site What has happened to Colonial Cafe

We go to this location all the time. Our food is always good - American type fare with some surprises thrown in. We have never had poor staff. In fact, just last night we had one of the sweetest waitresses serve us for our daughter's birthday. Tried their chicken chaquilies (sp?) which was chips with chicken, green salsa, onions, black beans, etc. and it was AMAZING. I'm still thinking about it today. All 9 of our party commented on how good their dinners were. Of course topping it off with ice cream was the reason my daughter picked the place. They all had the clown Sunday (scoop that looks like a clown with an ice cream cone hat) that was so cute! Didn't skip my peanut butter chocolate scoop either!

I have been eating here for many years and last night was a disappointment on some levels. The special was a Turkey Dinner with Stuffing, Cranberries, baked sweet potato, and one additional side. I ordered this without hesitation since turkey and stuffing sounded good. Well, the dinner arrived with no stuffing or cranberries. I was mystified. I went to the counter and the manager told me they were out of stuffing. I said, that had I known that I would have ordered something else. No offer to reduce the bill was made. I made my disappointment known. The waitress forgot to mention it and was very rushed. I am sorry Colonial, but you blew it tonight.

Had a very good burger and sweet potato fries. Seems this place has a history. Loved the pictures on the wall telling about it. I'm only sorry I didn't get to try one of their luscious sounding ice cream desserts. I will definitely come back next time I'm in the area. The staff was friendly and service was great. I recommend you give it a try.

This rating is reflective of the restaurant and the atmosphere and not the quality of dessert. When you first glance at the establishment you notice how old and rundown the strip mall is. The inside is a bit better, but still could use an update. Once you get past the exterior and onto the food the experience is much better. The food served at Colonial is mainly American, but also has a few Mexican items on the menu, like chorizo and eggs. The food is good, but nothing that I would rave about. The dessert however, is fantastic, and my personal favorite is the turtle sundae. The staff is friendly and the service is quick. A great family restaurant to eat at or just grab a quick dessert.

This place is an Aurora classic. Who from Aurora didn't get a sandwich and ice cream from Colonial? They have solid diner fare; there are thinks I would never eat before that Colonial got me hooked on, like tuna cheddar melts. They have fresh made strawberry lemonade with real strawberries that's incredibly tasty (and free refills!). They also have a quick lunch combo that works very well for a faster bite with a colleague at lunch. When I was 15, a friend from North Aurora took me here for the first time because he said I *had* to try this "cheddar cheese chowder." Goodness, was he ever right! Tasty, creamy, delicious - I'm sure also quite unhealthy, but it's not a health food diner, after all. Of course, their claim to fame is their ice cream - sundaes, floats, basic scoops, banana splits, and the like. I am an ice cream snob, so this isn't exactly my fare, but a little hot fudge sundae or such with lunch can be a nice treat. They also have a mongo "Kitchen Sink" which has two whole bananas, six scoops of vanilla, chocolate and strawberry ice cream, and three toppings. Covered with whipped cream, chopped nuts and a cherry, it's perfect for a 9 pm run with a group of friends. (Oh, and if you finish, you get a "I ate a Colonial Kitchen Sink" bumper sticker! :-) Enjoy a taste of Aurora's history. Check out the classic Colonial Cafe.

The food is pretty good , but way overpriced , nothing bad to say about the place except the prices are too high for what it is, Standard American food.

Yeaaaaah! Breakfast. This is one of the BF's favorites I think. He always suggests that we head here when we do breakfast. The perks: They know how to poach an egg, for sure. So that's a win right there. The strawberry orange juice is absolutely amazing. Almost life-altering. The service is pretty good, we've always had super friendly servers and hosts. Never crowded. I think the longest wait we've had was about 4 minutes. Potato Pancakes. Yes please. :) Could do to improve: Loaded potato pancakes sounds way better on paper than it looked on the plate. A little cheese melted on top with a bit o' bacon bits and a little thing of sour cream. It seemed sadly sparse. They tasted pretty delish though, so I can't fault them too much. Overall yummy :)

This is your standard American style diner, but the food is excellent and reasonably priced, and the atmosphere is top notch. Their coffee is very good, and they make their own ice cream. My wife and I like to come in the morning on weekends, when it's just us and the quiet old people reading their newspapers. We'll also walk over for our dessert fix a few times a week in the evening. Two caveats: First, the menu is not vegetarian friendly, but they will make substitutions at no charge. You only need to ask! Second, the portions are very large. We normally order one meal and a side, or at breakfast one meal and the oatmeal. Don't order entrees for everyone unless you are famished, or are absolutely opposed to sharing.

I love Colonial. I regularly meet with a group of fellow real estate agents here and we get great service from Robyn. They provide good food, a clean restaurant, and friendly wait people. Their variety is good for breakfast, lunch and the ice cream choices are just fun.
