Here's a good rule: anytime a Mexican restaurant in the suburbs brags about how long it has been open, be wary. I've found applying an additional ounce of skepticism for every year past a decade works as well as anything. It's not even necessarily these places faults either. Chances are they've had to make quite a few compromises over the years to cater to the ossified tastebuds of the hamlet-class they cater to. The Addison area has several such restaurants and true to form, they leave little to the imagination and even less to the palate. So where do the Mexicans of Addison go when they want Mexican food? The city, of course. But if they don't feel like making the trek, this is as good as it gets. This place serves many authentic Mexican dishes. If you like spicy, they can actually do that, unlike so many of their Mexi-Wannabe neighbors. Everything I have had has been delicious and freshly made. If you've never had Birria, a delicious goat soup, this is the best joint I have come across that isn't on the opposite side of our country's Southern most border. It is worth your time. This place is worth your time. And have no fear, the stale burritos and tacos that pervade the surrounding area will still be there, if you decide this isn't for you. What mediocre lacks in excitement, it makes up for in constancy.

I feel that a Mexican restaurant can be judged by their beans. If they take the time to make quality Frijoles (not crap from a can) I think you know everything else will be great. But I think what trumps my bean theory is what I've found here "Home Made Corn Tortillas" there is nothing else to say. If they take the time to make to make their own tortillas...well think about it. Salsas were delicious, Barbocca beef (shredded pot roast for you gringos) delicious...very friendly service....CASH ONLY.

The burritos are average at best. The pastor tacos are very good. The pastor is slow cooked on a vertical rotisserie, Tuesdays and Wednesdays they are only .99 I will be back for the tacos but won't try the burrito again. Note: This is a cash only restaurant however the ATM on site only charges one cent. I thought that was kind of cool.

A Mexi-Shithole of grandiose proportions. As ugly of a restaurant inside and out as you can imagine. Perhaps if there was a goat wandering around inside it might be worse, but... The food. Dear sweet bleeding Jesus, the food! Maybe one of the best Mex joints I've ever been to. The kitchen looks serious, and there's some serious cooking going on in there. All the roast meats and unmentionables, perfectly seasoned. Carnitas a speciality here, and worth it. Cebollitas, too. Haven't had a duff meal here ever. Now pay strict attention to the deep dusky thick red hot sauce on the table. Hotter than hell, but packed with flavor. A pile of Torts and this sauce would be a fine feed on its own. Cheery service. Don't let the decrepit look throw you off. I wouldn't make this a date night destination, but if your travels take you down North avenue, have the courage to take a bite here...

I have driven by here hundreds of times, but never stopped in because it never looked very inviting to me. This place is located in the building that formerly housed a hot dog stand and also an original Sandy's hamburger place from years back. Stopped in here after reading some favorable reviews. The inside of this place is never going to win any awards for atmosphere unless they have one for being kind of dumpy. Sorry to say that but I call it as I see it. Ordered multiple tacos, steak and Al Pastor along with beans and rice. The food was just OK. Service was just OK too. This would not be a destination spot for me but others seemed to have liked it a bit better. Cheers to all

Herradura means Horseshoe in Spanish. I'm not sure of the significance of the name, but you'll want to make a U-turn and head straight to this taqueria. Horchata is a staple measuring stick I use to rate any taqueria's performance. Herradura receives full marks for this sweet, milky, watery, cinnamon-y treat. It cools your tongue well after a few bites of delicious dishes like pastor dinners/tacos and chilaquiles made with chile de arbol (one of the hottest common peppers served). There is no shortage of condiments on the table- maybe almost too many- but they include a few different salsas with the requisite complimentary chips, and what I call "Mexican gardiniera": a spicy blend of sliced carrots, jalapeños, onions, celery, cauliflower, and a little olive oil. This place sits in a former drive-in hotdog stand. Times change and so do tastes. But I have a feeling I'm going to crave some chilaquiles on a weekly basis for many many months to come.

Food is great. Authentic Mexican. We had chicken tacos and enchiladas verdes. Chips and salsa to start had a nice spice.

Stopped here on a whim while driving by. They have $1 tacos on Tuesday and Wednesday. I got the pork tacos and they were absolutely delicious!! Authentic charred salty, spicy meat with onions and parsley. I wish I would have got a bag full. I will definately be back!!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
