This place may very well be my new favorite restaurant. The food was superb, from bread to appetizer to entree, all the way through dessert. I had a hard time deciding what to get, so I sampled several of my friends' dishes as well. Everything I tasted was amazing. I'm definitely going back; in fact, some friends and I have plans for dinner here this coming weekend.

Too long of a wait one night so we returned with reservations the next and sat out on the patio. Had a wonderful evening with friends; the wait staff was attentive without being interruptive (new word!) and the food and wines were tasty. Was here during Ride Idaho and all restaurants were happy to take our food vouchers and even made a point of letting us know they were welcome. Would definitely return.

Had a wonderful meal here on our second night in Sandpoint, will definitely come back here again. Best food in town, and incredible service. We were here a little out of season, and many places close early. Our server was patient, very friendly and attentive. He offered great wine recommendations, and advised us into the smaller plate sizes which were perfect portion sizes. This is a *real* italian restaurant not American Italian dining, if you're looking for bread sticks and tomato sauce you probably want somewhere else. The Farfalle alla Lepre (Rabbit) was utterly delicious, a little more rabbit would have been nice, but the flavors of the rabbit, italian sausage, and herbs melted perfectly together. The rest of our party loved their Mussels & Clams, Calamari Steaks (not strips) and Linguine alla Pesto. The outdoor seating space is very nice, but be prepared for the noise from the many semi's that drive right past the corner.

Fantastic food and service, seafood was fresh and tasted like I was on the coast. The setting was very homie and made you feel like you were in a family members kitchen.

This place is def the best Italian food in Sandpoint. We ordered the 4 dishes from here and all of them were superb. The veggie lasagna was amazing! The ravioli was also very tasty and they did not skimp on portions. The staff was extremely helpful and very nice. I would highly recommend this place for anyone visiting schweitzer or Sandpoint.

Sandpoint, Idaho: we had an excellent dinner at Ivano's. Interesting creations, professionally prepared an infusion of many flavors ... excellent wine list .... ambiance superb!

This place is great! My husband had the seafood pasta at lunch and it was unbelievable in flavor - they make their own fish sauce so the flavors are awesome - highly recommend! Great wine list too!

wow!!! a-mazing! we had a large group of 19. called ahead with a reservation for 18 but they grabbed us an extra chair and had no complaints. the waiter was perfect. friendly, patient, and fast. the food was perfectly delicious. the bread, fugeddaboudit! found a fairly priced bottle of washington cab that rocked my socks off. the best italian restaurant i think i've ever been to. the waiter even split all our bills without a single mistake. PERFECT!!!

Ivanos is one of the top 3 restaurants in town and compares well with Italian restaurants in big cities. You simply cannot go wrong eating here when visiting Sandpoint.

Great experience on New Year's Eve. I was so incredibly pleased to have a menu that was gluten-free friendly (GF pasta, and even GF bread served!). Really friendly server, delicious food. Highly recommended.

Had a really nice meal here. We were in the mood for red sauce so I had the eggplant and my husband had a pasta dish. Both were excellent. All of the pasta dishes can be ordered full or half size. The half size was incredibly generous. If you are not in the mood for tomato sauces, there are many other options. There were two fish specials that sounded so good...only wish we could have returned. The table next to us ordered the antipasti and I overheard them tell their waiter that it was better than some they had in Italy. We ordered a Chianti and pinot gris...both were very enjoyable and well priced. We finished our meal with spumoni ice cream and a couple of incredible pecan cookies. Highly recommend.

I was taken here by my grandparents who are residents and I am visiting from out of town. I am bummed because I live so far away and can't go back! I had there pesto pasta and it was so good! We all had wonderful meals! There prices were really reasonable, there atmosphere was really awesome (we sat outside on their patio area, and the only thing I can complain about is that it was noisy from traffic but that isn't their fault). Love this place and hopefully when I am in Sandpoint I will be able to go there again!

We have enjoyed wonderful meals at Ivano's for many years----first as tourists, and (now) as residents. Food is consistently very good, owners are personable and eager to please, servers are well trained and the atmosphere is lovely. Try the veal picatta, chicken marsala, eggplant parmesan or your favorite pasta dish. Pasta is always cooked to perfection! *UPDATE 4-21-13: In glancing over some of the reviews I noticed that a few comment on the noise from semi trucks when dining on the patio. Fortunately, that is no longer an issue! A new Bypay re-routes the trucks, so now you can enjoy eating outside. There's nothing like Sandpoint in the summer so this is great!

We made reservations and were seated almost immediately. The restaurant was pretty busy and we waited a long while for our waitperson. Before we wondered if we should flag someone down, someone from bar came over and took our drink order (which we greatly appreciated). The food was good and the portions were large. If I am back in Sanpoint, I'll probably visit this place again.

The only reason this gets 2 stars in because the bus boy was helpful Only saw our waiter when he took our order and handed us the bill. Food was okay but not at all worth the price. Half cold pasta and very chewy scallops. My husbands main course was good but the side of pasta was disgusting! We sat outside and seemed to have been forgoten on the patio. I may suggest eating inside if you want good service.

The food is great, service awesome and who can beat pizza night?! We love it, whenever we can break away from our busy lives we go!

I have been to Ivano's many times and the food is all ways good. They have a ok wine list and a full bar. The food is Italian and they have many traditional dishes to offer. I usually get some kind of cream sauce pasta dish and usually leave stuffed. Be smart and get the 1/2 portions and a salad. The reason I can not give Ivano's four stars is it seems every time I go there I stand at the hostess counter and I am ignored or told to hang on for a while and then I am ignored. The bar is right there and the bartender will chat with his friends as you stand there waiting to be noticed. Ivanos needs to kick the front of the house in the butt and make their customers feel special, for that reason you will find me at Arlo's.

I'm not gonna use the word bad, but being that I'm Italian, this place leaves a lot to be desired. For what is sold as an upscale dining experience, the flavor just isn't there. Sorry.

We were starving, and the food wasn't bad, so it fit the bill, but it wasn't anything special. My husband had a sub par martini, although I fault him for ordering a martini in the pac northwest--stick with what they know--coffee, beer and wine--and the bread was meh. We had a nice bottle of wine that wasn't overpriced, and the service was friendly. But Sandpoint is packed with good places to eat--I'd try Spuds or one of the other restaurants in the downtown area if you're looking.

we stop here a lot on the way up to Schweitzer for the weekend- food is almost always delicious but you have to order well. Menu is fairly standard Italian with a couple interesting things thrown in there (pappardelle with sausage and rabbit? sounds delicious, but then falls short of expectations). I recommend going with one of the specials as it makes your decision easier and will likely be very tasty.

First let me say that I know everyone has an off night, but my dining experience this evening was less than acceptable. I showed up and went thru the side door out to the patio. Was told rather snarkily by the waiter to go to the front desk and get seated even though 90% of the tables on the patio were empty and the girl at the front took me right back out..That's ok though no big deal..I ordered the steak with cheese crumbles on top with a salad...Got my salad and some of the lettuce was brown and looked less than appetizing...My steak arrived in good time. It was so salty though that after 4 bites it was inedible (let me add that I have had the same steak on two other occasions and it was delicious.) In my experience,at most places when you get a bad meal the manager is there immediately to apologize or at least see what can be done to fix it... the waitress was very apologetic but no manager, though she did say she had informed them. She did come out and offer me a free dessert but was going to charge me the full $28.00 for my dinner that by now consisted of 4 small potato wedges, a small bit of veggies and a semi brown salad..I did offer to pay half price as I had eaten some of the food, although in my opinion there should have been no charge...as it was that little bit of food ran me $17.00...Not worth it...will I go back ...Probably not, would I recommend it, probably not

My goodness, that was outstanding Italian food. I will never be able to eat a bruscetta from another restaurant without being bored stiff! The flavors here were superb! We had the breaded fried feta appetizer, and oh mama, I'm in love! The shrimp scamp was amazing! Wanted to lick the sauce off of the plate! My husband's veal was yummo. The only reason I didn't give it five stars was because the dinner salad was just a salad - could have been raised to a higher level, but seriously folks, do you come here for the salad course? I think not! A welcome addition to the dining scene in Sandpoint! Hurry to Ivanos!

My favorite dish here is the shrimp scampi. The shrimp are large and cooked till they are firm, yet moist. The sides of pasta and house vegetables are delicious but I usually need help finishing my plate. My dinner companion usually orders the esoteric dishes on the menu such as wild boar ragu or buffalo steak. He never complains about the dishes and only raves about his choices. My favorite dessert is the chocolate mousse. I highly suggest taking this home and eating it with your fingers for some fun! hahaha!! Ok, just kidding. I always order the chocolate mousse even though I am stuffed. There are bits of chocolate in the mousse that enhances the chocolate experience. Yum! You can't beat the value for this wonderful establishment! It is the iconic restaurant in Sandpoint, Idaho. Solid food with reasonable prices. Friendly service and a warm fireplace during the winter ... What more could you want? Family friendly atmosphere is what Sandpoint is about. **Side note: They offer a gluten-free menu for those who have allergies! How thoughtful is that?! They are an awesome family run restaurant ...

You know when you go out to a restaurant and it's SO good that you can't wait to go back? And when you finally do, things have changed, cuts have been made, portions are smaller and prices are higher? Well , that was our experience tonight. My husband took me out for a belated birthday dinner. We had made a reservation for patio dining, but the weather was not cooperating, so we opted for indoor dining and were seated at a table with a view of padding traffic and pedestrians. I am a people watcher, so it made it fun! We started off by perusing the very packed menu. It had changed since our last visit and was now chock full of gluten free choices (yawn). It seemed a lot of their signature dishes were now missing, but that could be a forgetful memory. Our server rattled off the specials, which were a lot of fish choices, including tilapia, which was surprising considering the recent stigma surrounding this particular fish. The only non fish special was a veal dish which my husband decided to try. We ordered the Formaggio Milanese as a starter (feta cheese wrapped in bread crumbs with a lemon butter sauce , roasted garlic, tomatoes, and a pepperoni Relish with crustini). We were surprised it wasn't warm and I was disappointed that you couldn't taste the lemon butter, but it was good and a nice start to the meal. At that point, we ordered some champagne as we were celebrating and it went well with the appetizer. Our salads came next. What happened Ivanos? They sure have cut back on their dinner salads. Nothing more than a handful of Spring greens, a carrot, and a few peppericini slices. Blah. Our entrees, however, made up for the lackluster salads. Although my Tortellini Ivano's was very rich, it was extremely palate pleasing and worth the price. My husband thoroughly enjoyed the veal special as well. We both left with with to go containers. We did notice the smaller dishes and the smaller portions however. It was very evident. Since we were celebrating a birthday, dessert was on the house. We chose to split the Creme Brûlée. Not a great choice. It was good, but the custard was warm and broken, as if it hadn't set up properly. The sugar crust was burnt in spots, so it really threw off the flavor. Champagne , however, washed it down nicely. Would we return? Probably. We probably won't go out of our way to get there any longer, but if we happen to be in Sandpoint and are craving some Italian food, we will stop in. Maybe it was just a bad night. It was Friday the 13th after all.

Delicious pasta and cute little restaurant offering both glutenous and gluten free meals. My seafood pasta in clam sauce was delicious and fresh. Definitely recommend.

Had a great dinner here with my wife and kids. We were seated outside under an arbor next to a fountain which helped drown out the street noise. My son is on a gluten-free diet, so it was great to see that they are able accommodate that. He had pasta with meatballs, with a side of GF bread. I sampled each and was very impressed with the flavor & texture. I had the trout special. Excellent. My whole family (save me) are picky eaters, and there were no complaints. Service by our waiter, Charlie, was attentive without being intrusive. And the rest of the waitstaff quickly refilled beverages and cleared plates.

Terrible food and service. Jar sauce is better. The fried feta appetizer was awful, greasy. The bolonese was dry meatballs are OK. Service took 20 mins for a server to come to our table we all almost left. Don't bother with this place

Dinner last night with 6 friends. Of the 7, 2 were happy and the rest thought the food was meh. Certainly not deserving of the 4 star rating that took us there. Pluses were nice circular table that made it easy to talk and good service. Food was mediocre. 3 had a chicken special, one had salmon, I had eggplant. Only the cioppina was a standout.

I dined here at Ivano's on a reservation with a group of friends to celebrate a birthday. We were seated underneath a pergola with ripening grapes on a wonderfully temperate August afternoon. Our server came promptly and treated us well, giving everyone recommendations for adult beverages, appetizers and salads. The birthday girl wanted a bottle of Opus X wine but that was not available, but the server did recommend a Duckhorn as suitable alternative, which I think was a fine choice. I requested the WiFi password, but the server never came back with it...perhaps that was a good idea after all as the smartphone would've been a distraction. We started off with the Crostini Misti, which consisted of a lightly grilled piece of goat cheese served on toast. It was very rich, but quite flavorful. I ordered the Pappardelle Fattoria, which comes with a Spring Salad and House dressing. Both the salad and the main course were prepared with attention in mind, as the salad was light and fresh, while the pasta had a well-balanced, meaty, but not-too-rich, sauce over perfectly al dente noodles. Others in my group ordered the Bisteca Della Casa, as well as the Tortellini Ivano. While I did not get to taste any of their meals, they looked well presented. During dessert, I shared with another person in the group a port sampler. There were a couple others who ordered the same thing as well. The dark chocolate was inconsistent in size, as one couple in the group received a bowl of nice large chunks, while my partner and I on the other side of the table got what looked like what remained at the bottom of the barrel! As it was a birthday, the server surprised the birthday girl with a chocolate mousse. Overall, Ivano's is a great restaurant that I would consider returning to next time I am in the area. If I had to make a critical comment about this restaurant, it would be a need to enforce a dress code, as I observed that several other diners were dressed as if they were ready to go shovel hay in a barn, and not to patronize an upscale place like Ivano's. There was also a child, likely less than 10 years old, dressed in a bikini that was clearly inappropriate to wear for upscale dining. These fashion faux pas truly were distractions to an otherwise fine dining experience!

Not much in the way of vegetarian options. Eggplant parmesan was good, portion small for price. Ravioli was tasty but I always want more than what is given. Corking fee for wine, lovely outside seating. Would return, but not my first choice.

The food was mediocre at best. Our waitress was hardly ever at our table and we were mostly taken car by another waitress and Sage, who deserves a promotion, took care of us.

Great service and food! Couldn't decide between the short rib or sole specials...left it to the chef and he made a delicious combo plate for me. Warm bread with olive oil and balsamic was also very good! !

My wife and I recently ate here for dinner. I'm embarrassed to say after working in Sandpoint I have not eaten he until recently. Boy, have I been missing out! Paul, our server, was knowledgable and catered to all of our questions and needs. My wife ordered a dish that wasn't on the menu, and they went over and beyond to accommodate her request. I had the seafood stew and it was the best that I've ever had. The owners are super people and this is a "can't miss" place if your visiting Sandpoint! You won't be disappointed.

A good date night place. Pastas that fill you up, with left overs to take home. The tables can be a little small for all they set. But don't let that stop you.

I am a classically trained CIA chef retiring in the area after years in the business so you can judge this review. If youre from out of town, youre not going to realize to what extent this little town piles on supporting its local commerce even if it means misrepresenting food as cuisine. Careful. Ive found ONE "chef" in this town at 41 South and he's an 8-mounth certificate type out of a local community college. None of the kids in THIS kitchen are trained (either) nor ServSafe Certified. I asked. Since Sandpoint doesnt have an active health dept inspector you may be venturing into uncharted territory. I give Ivano's an "awful" despite what you might be reading in other reviews, I think, because Sandpoint's bar for food is obviously deparately low. If youve been anywhere theres a restaurant energy or a "foodie-town" youll be sorely disappointed here so just set your expectations extremely low. Ivano's barely qualifies as cuisine much less Italian food in my opinion. You could make it better yourself and youd would probably get it faster and served at the proper temp if you did. Ive had better "italian" at any Olive Garden. So, Ivano's sauces are runny (straight out of a can), the pasta is NOT fresh (straight out of the box) and often served at slightly higher than room temperature. I am particularly offended by the Pasta Bolognese that should have beef, pork, veal and Pancetta (in a standard recipe). Yeah, its just ground beef and marinara on pasta. Not only is the food not worth it, service is fairly unimpressive. This really happened and I wouldn't share if it weren't so typical but I once sent back a glass of red wine back because there was lipstick on the rim of the glass. Not the end of the world, right? But a series of choices ensued. Having brought it to the attention of our waiter, he was friendly but displayed no perceptible alarm. He literally walked over to the bar (and as if he thought we couldn't see him) he poured the wine into a fresh glass and served it back to us. Ivano's has another restaurant across the street that's just as bad. This place is popular in Sandpoint for some reason but I give it a definite "Eek!" or yuk and it could most likely qualify for an episode on Kitchen Nightmares. I peeked in back there. (never do that in an "average" restaurant)

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
