Baxter's in Sandpoint is a GREAT restaurant. Location is right in the heart of Sandpoint and a very convenient walk to shopping, bars or the Panida for a show after you eat. I took my mother-in-law wine tasting then walked to Baxter's for dinner (and more wine) afterward. She loved it. It was the highlight of her visit. Owners Rich and Tommy work the restaurant and are welcoming, friendly and they know what they are doing. They remember my favorite beverage every time and have several choices on tap. The space is cozy, clean and well thought out with the lighting, music and pictures on the wall. I feel taken care of each time I am there. I think that's what customers should get when they go out to eat. They definitely know this and it works. I personally love the lamb sliders, crab cakes and the steak. My buddy had the meatloaf last night and he really liked it, and he is PICKY. The food presentation is awesome. I like a restaurant that puts extra effort into the details like they do. Prices are very fair and portion sizes are perfect - hearty but not overdone. They have a really good key lime pie that is light with a tasty combo of sweet and tart. I highly recommend this restaurant. Bon appetite! -Rob

If I could give them a 10 I would...the best ever...we live in Seattle and they are by far as good as Tom Douglas. Tommy is very professional, as well as the staff...thank you for a wonderful dinner...the Hatch's

Won't be back! Too much money for tiny amount of food. Broccoli was yellow and not appealing to eat.

We had heard good things about this restaurant so we decided to try it out this morning. We enjoyed the atmosphere and the decor. Our server came right over to greet us. When he brought our drinks he spilled some of mine on the table. Never acknowledged it or offered to wipe it up. We got our breakfast quickly except for my toast that didn't come till I was finished with my meal. Waited for awhile to get our check, finally had to ask for it. Don't think I will be going back.

Baxters has quickly become the best restaurant in Sandpoint. Everything we have ever ordered is cooked to perfection. Love the variety of the menu. Had the pork loin sandwich for lunch today and it was delicious. Well, again let me say, everything we have ordered there is great. Another plus is that they are opened year round 6 days a week. Wish the didn't close on Mondays. Don't get hungry in Sandpoint on s Monday. Oh well. At least they are open year round. Try this place. You won't be disappointed.

We love this restaurant! The food is prepared very well and our favorites are the rack of lamb or lamb sliders and the fish is always perfect. The decor is beautiful, the atmosphere is relaxing, inviting, the service attentive and we either see people we know or meet interesting new people. Consistently the best restaurant in town. We love sitting at the bar and talking with the co-owners either Rich or Tom who are personable, with interesting backgrounds and they take care to get to know their patrons.

So you'd think these guys at Baxters couldn't possibly meet your expectations after a previous perfect experience--well, think again--they so exceeded those expectations again!!!! First--let's talk appetizers--the raw shrimp--nicely served with a homemade cocktail sauce and the perfect portion for two to share... My buddy had the pork chop dinner. Coffee-rubbed to perfection and to quote--"the best thing I've ever put in my mouth" complimented with a crunchy ginger chutney. Add to that --creamy buttermilk mashed potatos and grilled asparagas --and before he'd even finished, he's waving down the owner Tommy to rave about "the single best pork chop I've ever had". He's from DC--the other WA--and was smiling at the quality of service, the atmosphere, and a near perfect dining experience. My entree was equally tasty--how about tender, juicy parmesan chicken in a basil cream sauce? So dang amazing I'm still tongue tied with satiated taste buds. Complemented with more of them heavenly mashed taters, the perfect basil creamy gravy, and oh yeah that grilled asparagas. To heaven I went. The bill for all this? Can you believe under 50 bucks?

What a great place in Sandpoint! A beautiful old building with exposed brick, but that's only the beginning! Great food for lunch; the sandwiches and salads sound like what you'd expect, but the salad dressings are surprising as is the other dishes like cioppino. That's what we chose and it was awesome! For dessert we tried the house made key lime pie with a REAL GRAHAM CRACKER crust and candied lime zest....WOW CAN I GET A PINT OT THAT TO GO? Dinner looks amazing too with steaks and even a roast 1/2 duck. The sides are appropriate and the prices are better than you'd expect in a resort town. They just started offering a Sunday Brunch that looks great with yummy things like Pork Belly gravy over biscuits, Eggs Benedict and Waffles with Fried Chicken! We're going back tomorrow for sure! The bar is nice with local brews on tap and bottled beer too. The wine selections are good. Service is great and they go out of their way to give you a great dining experience. They also have a space for private dining that will be an overflow area as necessary. If you're in Sandpoint you shouldn't miss this gem.

Good service, food, and atmosphere at a locally owned joint on the main drag. Only complaint is that the beer was really not very cold but it didn't stop me from ordering a second one anyway.

We loved this place so much that we went there for dinner 2 out of the 4 nights we were visiting Sandpoint. We had a party of six the second night, so we really got to try everything. The cioppino was fantastic and my favorite main course. My husband loved the duck and the salmon might be the best I've ever had! We liked the mussels so much, we ordered two. My nephew gobbled up the meatloaf and mashed potatoes like it was his last meal on earth. The only negative thing we experienced was how long it took to get our food both nights, but I'd rather wait if it means the food is this good. The owners came to our table both nights and are really nice and are working hard to make Baxter's a great restaurant. Do yourself a favor and order the key lime pie for dessert. You will never find a better key lime pie!

I want to love this place, I really do, but it's got a lot of work to do. The food is mediocre, on paper it's slightly above Sandpoint's current offerings, but when food comes to the table, it just doesn't deliver, or at least hasn't each time I've been there. The menu descriptions, vague. The presentation, average. The cost, too much for what arrives. I'm sure the owner is nice, but he's always lurking off in the distance, and never smiles. Customers CAN see this. Please improve execution, if you need to decrease offerings, fine. It's got so much potential, just needs more improvement.

I wanted to like this place, I really did; such was not the case, however. Our waiter greeted us in a timely and courteous manner, arranged the menus so that we would see the separate drink menu along with the food. It started out satisfactory. He took our drink orders, built rapport, and we took the opportunity to peruse the menus. I was a little set back by the prices, ex. $6 for a Caesar salad, $5 extra to add a chicken breast, but I accepted it as typical snobby bistro style. I value my money, because I work to earn it, so I asked the waiter why it was $5 to add chicken to a caesar; he gave a vague "because of the food cost" in response. Nothing resembling a reason that would pass muster; no explanation of "it's free range, certified organic chicken breast" for example. That, I wouldn't have batted an eyelash at; I understand and appreciate the reasons behind the cost of clean foods. Nonplussed, but still willing to be impressed, I ordered it anyway; my companion got an $8 burger (no cheese or bacon, mind you) with a small portion of fries. We were the only table in the place until after our food was served, and a man that I assume was the owner or manager even came out to offer me freshly ground pepper on my salad. My chicken breast was barely on the cooked side - it still had the texture of raw meat - which I was willing to forgive, since it was cooked enough to eat safely. At the end of the meal, when the waiter was taking our dishes, I let him know about the barely cooked meat and that I wasn't complaining, just letting the cook know. We get our hand written bill, and I noticed that the numbers didn't tally up to the total written at the bottom. I brought it to the waiter's attention, he offered to redo the math, and walked back quickly to explain that his math was correct. I asked him to explain, because the numbers added up to $2 less than the total he gave. He pointed to his tally marks on the bill next to our drinks, saying that we needed to double the amount. I clarified that the drinks were $2 each and not $2 for both (this was another irritation, since they were cans of soda and $2 is an exorbitant amount for a can of soda) and pointed out that he needed to write the correct total amount next to the item, because customers are going to be adding up what is written, not searching for hidden math equations on their bill. He actually argued that point, saying it was very clearly written; I'll admit to being nearly shocked at his attitude over a simple miscommunication - on his part, no less. Customer service: failed, no tip for you, buddy boy! What was even more irritating is that the manager/owner who had come out earlier witnessed the entire thing and didn't step in at all.

Great. Chilled salad plates, dressing were superb. French dip made with drippings from pre rib, for $10. The lime pie made with real lime juice and zest. A great addition to Sandpoint.

Wow. What a wonderful place. Another gem in SP. Wine was Tilia Malbec Syrah. Fantastic. Our group had crab cakes, rack of lamb and I had duck. It was fantastic. Service was first rate. For desert on our servers suggestion we took a chance on Key lime pie ! Who would guess you could get a great key lime in N Idaho. It was better than what I've had in Florida. Management : Good job!!
