New York Deli & Steak House is one of very few dining options in Preston, Idaho, but who needs tons of options when the one existing choice has achieved perfection? I was blown away by the quality of food at this restaurant. I came expecting something mediocre, but everything was fresh and very, very good. I started with a bowl of butternut squash soup. You guys, it was transcendent. SO GOOD. The waitress also brought a couple of really amazing, fresh rolls to the table with the soup. After viewing a photo of the chicken fried steak on Yelp, I was compelled to order it. I'm glad that I did, just to satisfy my curiosity, but I'll probably never get it again. It's enormous, beautiful, and delicious, but more breading than I can handle. The mashed potatoes were to die for, and also more than I could eat in one sitting. My companion ordered a sliced turkey dinner, and he was very happy with it. The waitress informed us that the owner slow cooks the turkey, and it showed; the meat was super moist and tasty. His meal came with the same monster portion of potatoes, which he also loved. A diner with such focus on quality is a rare find, even in larger cities. New York Deli & Steak House is definitely worth the trip.

Great menu. Lots of sandwich, burger, and dog options. Both table service and to-go options. Perfect for me on my long drive. I had the crabapple turkey panini. Very good.

The sandwiches are great. Our server today was awful, however. We went for lunch with friends, we had four adults and two toddlers. We sat in the restaurant side, since they have bigger tables. Our server, a young man with dark, shaggy hair, told us we couldn't have a sandwich menu in there, we'd have to walk over to the other part of the restaurant and look at the menu on the wall. I've ordered sandwiches in the restaurant side before and have had no problem obtaining a sandwich menu. Then he completely screwed up our friend's order. The couple ordered one sandwich to split, along with a hot dog for their son. The server brought out two of the same sandwiches and acted clueless when told a hot dog was ordered as well. Anyway, the guy seemed like he couldn't care less about his job and wanted to put in minimal effort. Now back to the food. I love the Memphis and Austin sandwiches, though the last two times I've gotten them, they've been pretty cold. My husband ordered the pastrami burger today and had a really difficult time eating it, but said it was still pretty good. The French fries are amazing. The chips are also great. We always order our daughter one of their hot dogs with toppings and they're quite good for less than $3. All in all, I think the food is really good and I'll continue to come here, I just hope our future experiences have a little better service.

My husbands burger was awful and the cook slash owner was worse he did nothing to correct the burger that was sitting in a half cup of grease and the half cup of cheep super sweet ketchup the burger was drenched in. The owner also treated the waitress like it was her fault. I will never be returning because the owner was really rude and could care less about our happiness.

Having moved to a new location and having a revamped steakhouse menu. NY Deli is the place to go. Their steaks are wonderfully cooked, tender and delicious. I order the New York strip, which comes with salad roll, potato dish and veggie side. The restaurant is divided into the steakhouse and deli sides and you can order from both but choose to sit depending on your preference. For the price. The restaurant atmosphere, food and service are out of this world. By far one of the best steaks in the surrounding areas.

We arrived at 4:30 PM on a Saturday evening. Waited over 10 minutes to even be seated, totally ignored by all staff(?) Our waiter brought us menus and water, then disappeared into the back, not to be seen again until 5:10 PM, at which time we had to stop him and ask him to take our order. He walked by us 3 times before we stopped him. The food was alright, nothing to get to excited about. Typical hamburger, menu on the sandwich side of the restaurant looked better than the menu in the sit down side.

Just okay really. Been here 3 times and not impressed. Limited selections, bread is hard and lacks taste. About the only thing I like is the potato chips, drizzled with the pink sauce. Yep mediocre at best.

An oasis of Brisket Goodness in Preston! Enormous portions of delicious, delicious deli food. We had the Austin (brisket, bbq sauce, and fried onions), the Brisket Melt (brisket, sauteed mushrooms and swiss panini-pressed on sourdough bread), and Grandpa's Stinky Toes -- our favorite -- which was like the Austin but with garlic chips, crumbled bleu cheese, and 5 Buffalo wings(!). Everything was delicious, and came with a side of homemade potato chips and a large soda. Fantastic! The owner and staff were all super-nice, too.

I was astounded by how good this little sandwich shop is considering it is in the small town of Preston, ID. Every time I visit to see my grandparents who live in Preston, and it doesn't matter who I am with, we always stop at the New York Deli. Their sandwich creations are delicious: my favorite being the brisket sandwich or the pulled pork sandwich, which are both topped with fried onion strips. The servings are very big for the cost. The potato chips look hand cut and are topped with ranch. New York Deli is one of my favorite places to eat!

Carnegie Club is the way to go but I suggest you get it on regular loaf bread instead of french roll! Family owned and friendly staff. Try the Monster Meat Challenge for a free meal and your picture on the wall.

Great place in town to eat! Highly recommend the all you can eat soup& salad this time of year. Zupa soup was my favorite.
