Love the environment and the food! Every time I take a trip to McCall I make sure and stop there! I wish they had a larger drink menu, but I can live with it! I love their 'Honey Toast' it is so yummy! Recommended it to anyone!!

I frequent this sushi bar quite a bit. It is always fresh, as they don't try to offer too many types of fish. The scene is always pretty fun too. What an amazing beer and Saki menu! The Bonfire, El Diablo, Shrimpzilla.. are some of my favoriterolls. If they have Kama (fish cheek), it is delicious. I have had the Pho... it is the only one in town, but is not my favorite. The meat doesn't always taste the best, but I will say the broth is the bomb. O-You must have the honey toast for dessert. You can easily split one dessert with four people. Ben is our favorite server and the owners rock.

Again, I'm a Texan in Idaho for the Summer. Imagine my delight to find this gem of a place overlooking the Lake in Downtown McCall. I'm so happy great sushi in a wonderful setting. You could not ask for a better location to view the Lake Activity while you dine. A wonderful patio overlooks the lake and the HUB of town down below. The prices here are extremely reasonable. Our waiters on all of our visits great and seemed to know a lot about Japan and the food they were serving- PLUS. Everything we had on very visit was very good. We love sushi and we love this place. This place has one of the most extensive beer menus I have ever seen. I thought I might be at a microbrewery and again the prices for beer and wine were dare I say, cheap??? I guess I kind of expect to pay for an overpriced drink when I'm setting in a tourist area with a view. Well not here. On our second visit my husband ordered a beer that had recently been put in the cooler. IT had not had time to get ice cold. When he asked for a cold mug, The waitress reluctantly told us she had none as they were a "Green Dining Establishment". She promptly returned with a little clear bin filled with ice to keep his bottle on ice at our table. I was super impressed by this. My husband was a little embarrassed as he must have appeared to be very high maintenance. But I know he was happy about it. Great service!! Great food. Check out the bathroom sink- cool!! They are part of some Green Dining Initiative, I hope this starts a trend.

The best Sushi I've had in Idaho, friendly staff.

My husband and I were eager to try the Sushi Bar in McCall after hearing lots of positive word of mouth from friends and others. Unfortunately, contrary to what other people have said we were disappointed in our visit yesterday evening. It was a busy Friday night, even at 8:30. We ordered the $30 Sushi for Two which included edamame appetizer, miso soup, and two rolls: one our choice and the other, Chef's choice. The edamame was slightly under-cooked and we never received our miso soup (which we didn't realize until this morning). The sushi rolls, however, were teeny -- what you would see for a simple avocado or cucumber roll. We ordered the Shrimpzilla roll, and Chef's choice was a ginger salmon roll ... Both of which were fine, but it would have been nice to try something different than what our dining partner ordered. There was a great selection of reasonably priced beer and wine, which could have been the reason my husband left a $20 tip for a $77 tab! All in all, it was a pretty mediocre experience -- mediocre food and mediocre service.

Tried the pho soup Saturday and it was awesome. The sushi is always good and the chefs are friendly. Unfortunately I left with a lot of money in my pocket and little food and/or beer in my belly. The wait staff disappeared after our food was dropped off. They stood around and talked to each other, but not to us. I'm sure we'll be back, but this time was a bit of a bummer.

Excellent food, friendly service and good prices. I highly recommend the shrimpzilla roll and some Apple sake!

Incredible view over Payette Lake. Knowledgable staff, ice cold asain and local draft beers. Super fresh sushi/sashimi, and a to die for seaweed salad. A favorite for locals and tourists alike! The happy hour rocks!

Surprisingly very good sushi and the dessert was DA BOMB! Beautiful view and very friendly service. We didn't run into any of the issues that some of the other posts. At first when we got here we were skeptical about how fresh it could really be but it was delicious and we are from CA. We had the Poke, cucumber salad, shrimp tempura rice bowl (which was a hit for the kids), spring fever roll and spicy salmon roll. The honey toast is a must have! All local ingredients and definitely big enough to share for a table of 4-6. Don't leave without trying it.

Never disappointed with the Sushi Bar. Every time my family are at McCall, we have at least one meal here. It is family friendly, great service and of course, delicious food. Highly recommend the fusion sush (salmon sashimi & asparagus)i, Pho, shrimp tempura bowl with rice and the many fancy chef creation sushi rolls.

I've eaten here twice once during happy hour and the prices are fantastic' My first visit I had Nigiri; salmon, two kinds of tuna. One is actually not a tuna but it tastes remarkably like Hamachi (Yellowtail) the other was Maguro. They were excellent. Fresh and delicious and large slices. Went again a month ago, and had the rolls. Warning: when they say spicy tuna they mean it. One of the other table-mates had the salmon. Both were good but not that great. The inari pocket was exceptional as was the Miso. Another Friend had the Pho Special. It was exceptional as well, Almost raw marinated beef that cooks in the soup. Living in Portland I've had my share of Pho and it was great. The meat was marinated in something that just gave it a great flavor and there was plenty of it. I like that they have Kirin draft on tap as well as a small but good selection of Micro-Brews. Compared to Boise prices for sushi it is a great value. Happy hour is daily 4-6.

GREAT Place! The Shrimp-zilla and honey bread dessert are out of this world. Wouldn't expect to find such great sushi in McCall, but this is the best. Highly recommend. Also, sitting on the deck overlooking the lake on a sunny afternoon is an added bonus. Beautiful!

Really great sushi rolls. Coming from Calif, it was hysterical to see the lineup of young Caucasian hipster sushi chefs....My immediate thoughts were 'this is gonna be good!' I wasn't disappointed one bit!!! I wish we could have sat at the balcony bar and enjoyed the view; next summer. My edamame could have been steamed a little longer. Also I wasn't blown away by the mixed poke. There was something about the cucumber flavor that I didn't enjoy, but that could just be me. Fresh sushi. Great views. Enjoyable atmosphere. This is a must when you visit. I have now been told that the baked mussels are great. Next time for sure we will get them.

The food here was very good, I had the pho because I haven't had a decent bowl in at least a year. This one was good, not the best, but definitely hit the spot and the broth was not too salty. It lacked something I can't place my finger on, I think it was a lack of Thai basil. The basil it came with was a genovese basil which has a very different flavor. Overall the sushi my companion ordered was very good, I tried both and found them both excellent.

We got the salmon river roll, Avalanche, and ruby roll. All were good. Upstairs patio view is great.

My favorite sushi in Idaho. Great beer selection too. Always fun and festive. The view is fabulous in some spots though recently obscured by a welcome sun shade. Seems like they should pull up the shade depending on time of day so we can still see the lake.

Food tastes great and lots of great options. Has a small seating area outside. When busy the inside does get really loud. Service was slow and server was not very attentive. Server made it right by compensating us by taking a roll off the bill but still sending it home to go.

This place is and has been a real gem in McCall wince they opened. An early dinner today of squid salad, miked poki (I had them add some jalapeño) for appetizers. We ordered two rolls, the Brundage Blast and requested the chefs special. Both were complex combinations of salmon, tuna , hamachi, avocado and perfectly prepared rice, rolled and garnished. The home made green tea ice cream is is MUST! They used to serve another commercial product that was good, but not with the real green tea flavor. Don't miss this to finish your meal. All of the servers are friendly and attentive. They are great at making recommendations and truly act as though your business is appreciated. They also make Vietnamese pho on Sat & Sun.

I spent a fortune here, but it was worth it. They were busy, so service was slow. I ordered way too much food, and so did my 6yr old. But, it was super yummy and beautifully prepared. Try the Baked Mussels and ShrimpZilla. The salmon sashimi was very fresh; I think my son ate his body weight in it before I cut him off. I need plan my next trip around Happy Hour.

Seriously check this place out & try their honey toast its so good it hurts.

LOVED this place. We recently moved to Idaho from California and needless to say have been on the hunt for good sushi. On a weekend trip to McCall we stumbled upon this gem. Incredibly fresh seafood and mind blowing sauces to go with. Its an incredibly hard task to decide on what rolls to order since they all sound so dang good. But Spring Fever is definitely my recommendation and will keep me day dreaming for weeks to come. I also ordered the El Diablo which was fantastic. Although something tells me you can't go wrong with any roll on their menu. They have the fundamentals right- fresh, fresh, fresh. And the service was great. Another plus- they use REAL crab which in my opinion should always be the standard for any sushi Joint but sadly most use that imitation mush. Yuck.

Last summer I was very impressed by this place and when I brought my husband in this past weekend he agreed: what I had been saying for a year was true. We can't wait to come back ASAP.

Located in a nice spot, lake view from the deck. The sushi is great, as is the price. I recommend the Island Tuna roll, it's a clever mix of ingredients.

Very interesting place. Was spoken to rudely the first night when the tall blonde hostess told us 2hr wait. "No problem" I said. The place was busy, I get it. The 2nd night same scenario, (same tall blonde) only this night the place was not busy. Walked across to Bistro 45 and called. The nice female on the other end said the wait now is 30min Max? I'm confused. The "tall blonde" is rude! Snotty attitude. Also lies on waiting times. Had friends that night also experienced the similar attitude with the same person. I hear the place is great. When can you get in if the hostess lies.

No reservations really. Only for parties of 7 or more people. The honey toast is huge. For 6 or more people.

Somehow someway maybe the best sushi i have ever had and is a pretty hard place to get fresh oceanic fish. Outside in the summer is obviously preferable but has limited seating. But inside is just as nice and i enjoy sometimes as temperatures can get col in Mccall as sun goes down. I have eaten here probably 15 to 20 times and never had a bad server or food. The sushi may not be made my Japanese Americans, but these people know how to roll a tasty, flavorful roll of sushi. I only wish when i come in saying only order 1 roll it taste so good i usually eat two there and order one for later when i leave, Which can run me $40, but at least it is worth it!

Love! I try to make atleast one stop every time I go up. Great atmosphere, you cant beat their view. The sushi and pho is amazing. McCall is my second home and it's nice to have great restaurants available when I am in town.

Our sushi was great! Fast service, and our server Ben was AMAZING!!! He was so helpful, and even made it a special little dining experience for me and my friends daughter. I had the Dynamite roll, edamame, and some poki. He also brought us some yummy mochi ice cream for our little girls. The view made it the perfect icing on the cake.

My son and I were in McCall for the night. He'd never been in or seen the snow so I thought it would be cool to take him up there to check it out. Before going I jumped on Yelp and looked for places to check out. The Sushi Bar caught my attention. So that night after a fun day of playing in the snow and the pool at the hotel the two of us headed out to get some sushi. We walked in and there was a host down stairs in this weird waiting area which kind of looked like it could be used as an extra dining room. We were escorted upstairs to our seats. The dining room was nice, small, with a great view of the lake. The beer menu was good and the food menu was nice as well. The prices were a little high but not too crazy for sushi. I have to be honest being from San Diego and having our choice of great sushi places I was a little worried about how the food was going to be but I was pleasantly surprised, the miso soup was really good, and the rolls were great. The spicy tuna roll was one of the best ones I've ever had!!! I was very impressed. My son and I both left full and very happy. If we're ever back in McCall we will be coming back for sure!

Hi Jordan - thank you for reaching out to me privately and then again regarding my posted a review. I am sorry I am so late in responding. Please forgive--life got busy. We visited on a Monday evening in early August. The restaurant wasn't crowded but there were several other tables there. It took a very, very long time for food to begin arriving at our table. We ordered the spring rolls as an appetizer. A big factor in a good spring roll for me is the rice wrapper. Ours was slightly hard all over and the end had not been cut or wrapped properly--it was also cold and twisted into a big hard chunk at the end. Quite undesirable. We then shared the Korean BBQ. While the beef was decent and flavorful (there were a few fatty chunks), I was surprised at the portion given the $15 price. My partner and I also shared one of the rolls (I can't remember exactly which one). Again, we were quite surprised at the small size of the roll. It didn't match the $10+ price tag at all given the rolls I've had in the past at other establishments. I looked at some pictures that others have posted of their roles and I truly think something went wrong with our roll. I read your response to another reviewer who mentioned the rolls were on the smaller side. I too respect your reasons for doing so. I did some further Yelp reading and read some other reviews - it seems as though we truly had a "once in a blue moon" bad experience at your restaurant. After reading such positive reviews I wish we too had a nice experience! I truly wish your business the best of luck. I also really appreciate the fact that you wanted to know more about our experience. I should've taken more time in my original review and I have learned to now do so in the future.

What a great atmosphere. Can't beat the patio in the summer!!!! I've only had the sushi here so far but have heard they have other great food. If you eat a lot of sushi like I do you end up being a little more picky then usual. This place with out question came thru for a small sushi bar out of mccall. Absolutely love it!!!

Enjoyed this place immensely! My GF and I looked around town deciding what to do for dinner. We came across The Sushi Bar and since I hadn't eaten sushi in years, it was a great change from the usual eateries. We shared a plate that offered a few different types of rolls and for my main meal I went with the large Kobi beef & salmon bowl with the black rice. I could do this bowl all week every week. Loved it that much. The staff was great. They were well informed of their menu items and any specials and we never felt rushed. We had gotten in on Saturday around 3ish and when we left, my GF had forgotten her purse under the table. Not a problem. They found it and held it until we got back to get it 20 minutes later. When we had returned, the place was happening. The lot was full and more people were pulling up as I waited for the GF to return. I'd like to come here during the summer when we could sit out on the deck. We will definitely be back to The Sushi Bar each time we come to McCall.

My party of 4 went on a Thursday afternoon around 4 pm for happy hour and loved the sushi happy hour. We had about 5 sushi rolls and o ne of our party had calamari, too. It was all very good. Around 5 pm, the place got very crowded. The server never pressured us and we never felt pressured to leave, but this is a relatively small restaurant and we decided we'd taken their table long enough. When we left, there was a line out the front door. Parking is difficult at this location. The adjacent parking lot is not theirs and they had to warn several customers to relocate their cars.

Delicious! Awesome lake view. Recommend the private room if you have a party over 8, because it looked fun. Clean, well decorated, with nice extras (bathroom).

This busy local establishment has been known for it's great sushi, noodle bowls and Pho. Not to forget their deserts of homemade ice creams (salted caramel, chocolate coconut and green tea) and deliciously original honey toast. However, as the only good Asian game in this resort town, the lack of competition has seemed to create an owner/chef who has become quite arrogant with his cuisine. Despite the friendly staff upstairs, you are first greeted downstairs by the gate keepers who inform you that it will be at least an hour and a half wait- but if you leave they will happily give your table away. Want to make a reservation ahead of time? Forget it. It's only first come, first serve. You can, however, wait forever downstairs at one of several tables where you can enjoy an appetizer of semi-microwaved edamame and wine from a box. (OR luke-warm sake, or a crappy beer--even though they have a full bar upstairs with a good wine and IPA selection) Even worse, this last visit, the wait in the dungeon wasn't even close to being worth it as the sushi and noodle bowls weren't all that and they were sold out of most of the deserts even though it was only 715 pm. I can't imagine their popularity will continue to last with the food quality slipping and the wait times unacceptable.

I know nothing to very little about sushi but I do know this place has a niche in McCall. I don't think there's any other sushi place around and these days, people seem to like it. The Sushi Bar is in a great spot, overlooking the lake, and it has a nice feel to it. Again, I don't know much but I do like rolls. We had a California, Spicy Tuna, and a couple others and they were all pretty good. The service was fast and they had the sweetest bathroom sink I've ever seen. A great place to stop if you're wanting something unique in this nice little town.

Great place! When I was told we were going to sushi, I was worried that my outdoor wear would not jive, but it's very casual and laid back, so I fit right in hah. That being said, I would have liked the service to be a little less casual than it was. A guy showed us to a table and then 5 minutes later decided he would also be our server and paid attention to us...felt weird and like no one wanted us. I was pretty skeptical of sushi in a land-locked state, but it was excellent! The Shrimpzilla roll was so good that I even ate the tempura-fried shrimp tails, which is not something I usually partake in. I tried some of the unagi rice bowl and it was also very good. Their menu is large and the $5/roll happy hour looked like an excellent deal. Also impressed with their use of sustainable species and general eco-awareness. We also had a minor celeb sighting there, so even "they" like it.

I begged my boyfriend to go out for sushi with me while we were in the wilds of Idaho--a place where he likes to grill salmon and eat steaks and potatoes. That's what summers in Idaho are all about for him. And he AGREED to go. That's how I knew he loved me. Coming from the SF Bay Area, we were initially a little skeptical (really? how good could sushi be in a city where the Asian population was probably in the low double digits?) but we were pleasantly surprised. Not to mention, the happy hour specials (M-F from 4-6pm) aren't too shabby! I almost can't wait to go back this summer when we are up there vacationing again!!

Everything is relative when you're in a rural community but notwithstanding this place would be a gem in any town or city. Great rolls, wide variety of beers in bottle/draft and Pho Saturday/Sundays. In general I feel most seafood restaurants this far inland would be pretty sketchy but this place is pretty epic now that I think about it. The service is spotty at times but just order a few drinks and you will always walk away satisfied.

  • Melissa K.

I appreciate the Sushi Bar taking the time to respond to my original review. I also respect their answer to why they choose to make their rolls smaller. Thank you! I just wanted to follow-up and say, my experience here was good and like I said, for being in a rural area like McCall I think the sushi was better than most would expect. However, in comparing to the Northern and Central California sushi restaurants I am accustomed to, it just can't compare. Perhaps this is an unfair judgement as most Idahoans would not have this to compare too. I have eaten at many restaurants here that provide sashimi cuts that are to die for! Combinations of flavors I could never dream up. I love a restaurant that provides the unexpected. I'm not creative enough to think of how to even come up with these ideas. I don't need cream cheese and other sauces masking the goodness underneath ( in fact I am recently dairy and soy free).

  • Colin W.

The service was good, a wait to be expected for fresh food made to order. The Korean Beef was good and they added spice to it at my request. The 2 rolls we got were fantastic and just enough for two people. The spring rolls were incredibly fresh and tasty. I think we will go back there once more before we leave.

After growing up in Idaho for 18 years I was very, very pleasantly surprised to find a sushi place this good. Especially in McCall. The sushi here is amazing. In fact, if you are a local of Boise, I don't think there is a sushi place that tops it in the Treasure Valley. The fish is always fresh. I love the nigiri and sashimi options. I recently ordered an amazing Hamachi dish with jalepeno's and some kind of spicy oil. Amazing. The rolls here are all really good and if you don't find one that you like, they will usually make a custom roll for you. I have never been disappointed with a roll here. Besides the food, the service can be a little iffy. We have had waiters who always seem new, no matter when we go. Also, go early because if not you will be stuck waiting and the place isn't very good so you end up standing around the tables where people are eating. I absolutely recommend this place if you are in the McCall area.

We came we ate we left. We got the 5$ menu food was so so I hate to say. The service was excellent. But always remember when it comes to sushi you must have a Japanese chef! Lovely location and great views.

Amazing food! So fresh! Excellent view. Ate outside - beware your shade disappears as the evening progresses. We were there on a particularly hot night. Do NOT be in a hurry - sushi was quick anything from the kitchen was really slow (our salad came after the sushi was long gone). If you order dessert be prepared to wait 15-20 minutes for it. The honey toast dessert was great.

Really pleased with quality of sushi and impressed with variety of rolls. Lots of regional beers on tap. The bad, can often at times be busy. Expansion on first flor should be open by now, should remedy that issue.
