Having been born in Colombia, I am used to some really good and plentiful dishes. On my way to Boise from Indiana I researched some Latin restaurants that would somehow be on my way down to Twin Falls from the Boise airport. Lima Limon was one of the first that showed up on my list of options and oh boy, am I glad I went. Upon arrival, I became immediately skeptical as there were two cars in the lot at noon. Thankfully, I didn't let that fear make me change my mind. I went in and immediately taken aback by the cleanliness, the decoration, the music (Grupo Niche), and the smiley face (that of the owner) who welcomed me inside. I ordered the aji de gallina, which was excellent. As a drink, I had a maracuya pisco (some sort of passion fruit juice mixed with authentic pisco - a famous Peruvian alcoholic beverage) and wow...it was even better, or equally as good as my dish. In closing, I very much would recommend this joint. It took me about 25 mins from the airport. Buen provecho!

Overall, I enjoyed this place, and will try to return. Everything was reasonably priced, and the portions were more then adequate. The service was a bit slow, but we were told that there was a large banquet party in the other half of the restaurant that was causing some delay. I have had lots of Peruvian food in my life, both home cooked and at restaurants, and the fare at Lima Limon was pretty good, with one major exception. We had Pisco Sour for drinks. They were very good, and in generous glasses. I had "Lomo Saltado" for my meal. It was as good as any "Lomo" I have had before. The meat was very tender, and the potatoes and onions were cooked perfectly for my taste. My spouse had "Bistek a la Pobre". She was disappointed with this, because the ingredient of the dish that she most looked forward to was prepared poorly. This dish contains a thin pan-fried steak, rice, a fried egg, and deep-fried plantain. Unfortunately, the plantain used was not sufficiently ripe; and so, instead of being sweet with a slightly creamy texture, as it should have been, it was pretty tasteless and had the texture of a undercooked potato. The other ingredients of the dish met her expectations.

What a great addition to the ethnic food scene in the Boise Valley. Lima Limon is the only Peruvian restaurant between Portland and Salt Lake City and local diners are the winners. Located just off the north bank of Indian Creek, the view out the back window is scenic and soothing. The restaurant, which opened in August, is at the location of the former Creekside Lounge. Chef Deysi Contreras and her husband, Agustin, worked 20 years at Kuna's renowned Mexican restaurant El Gallo Giro, owned by Agustin's brother, before opening their own restaurant. Deysi is a native of Lima, Peru's capital city. I ordered Lomo Saltado, a Peruvian stir fry dish in the fusion tradition brought by immigrants from Guangzhou, China, in the late 1800s. The dish combines marinated steak strips, onions, tomatoes and French fries and served with rice. The beef was very flavorful from the marinade and melded well with the other ingredients. I also ordered Papa a la Huancaina (Huancayo-style potatoes), which features boiled yellow potatoes topped with a creamy Huancaina sauce. The sauce is made from a fresh white cheese, an aji amarillo (yellow Peruvian pepper), evaporated milk and crushed crackers smoothed in a blender. This is different than anything I've ever tasted. The potatoes and sauce were served at room temperature and were quite tasty. The peppers added a zip but didn't overpower. Wonderful. Server Ricky was knowledgable about the menu items and spent quite a bit of time with me talking about the dishes. Deysi and Agustin also came out from the kitchen and talked with me and thanked me for coming in. The restaurant has plenty of room with wooden tables spaced comfortably apart. There are also two larger tables in a board room area with a sliding door that can be closed for privacy. After people discover this wonderful restaurant, they may give El Gallo Giro some real competition. It's great that Kuna now has two really good restaurants.

A bit out of the way but well worth it. We were looking for something different and chose Lima Limon because it featured Peruvian. The host was gracious and took time to explain all the menu items including Peruvian beverages. They served a unique hot sauce that really compliments the meal. We started with a mixed, deep fried sea food appetizer, enjoyed the beef with peppers and onions and washed it down with imported Peruvian beer. Great time!

Being from South America myself, I jump for joy when find an authentic South American cuisine joint near Boise. I read the Lima Limon review in Boise Weekly and decided to give it a try. Lima Limon does not disappoint. The flavors of the food and the sauces were delicious and fresh. We had the Papa a la Huancaina with the seafood chimichanga and a pollada. It was delicious. We will definitely be back, the sauces alone are worth the drive from Boise, and the perfectly cooked potatoes and chicken are mouth watering. Great food at a good price!

Loved the food! Everything was incredibly delicious and perfectly prepared! The ceviche had a unique peppery finish and it was absolutely delightful. The pollo a la Brasa was sooooooooooo good, I will definitely order this again. It includes two sauces that pair perfectly with the seasoning on the chicken, but really the chicken is incredibly tender and juicy and moist throughout and doesn't require any extra sauce but they spice it up that much more. My companion had the camarones con crema and it was amazingly decadent and rich. The sauce was thick with mushrooms and garlic. Two things that were missing here I found was the service was very slow, our waitress was nowhere to be found, food coming out was also very slow but we were in no rush and it was worth the wait. Also, the pollo a la Brasa.. I wish it came with a more authentic or culturally specific side. The French fries just didn't do it for me, I was hoping for something more.. Peruvian. Maybe a side of the huge Peruvian corn kernels? Or sweet potato? The drinks were also very good, I had the Pisco Sour and it was very tasty and unique.

We are always looking for "good" food when visiting family, and it's hard to find anything but chains in most of the Boise-Nampa-Meridian area. We are fans of Peruvian food, and so we had to stop at Lima Limon after reading about it. What a delightful lunch--the huancaina sauce was spiced up upon request, the pollo alla brasa (famous Peruvian spit-roasted, spiced chicken), lomo saltado, and Camarones Al Pisco with shrimp cooked in a pisco-tomato sauce all hit a nice mark. And all in Kuna. I hope the hard-working couple cooking and running this place succeed. Idaho needs more creative options. Don't forget to try a pisco sour!

I brought my family on a Saturday night. The service was great and the food was wonderful. My son had spent a year in Lima Peru and was thrilled with the authentic cuisine at this restaurant. I definitely will come again and would recommend it to anyone.

We were hesitant to try a Peruvian restaurant but the owner explained the menu very thoroughly. The sauce on my chicken was really tasty. Recommend you try this restaurant!!! And they gave patio dining as well. Very nice.

We finally decided to give Lima Limon a try, and we weren't disappointed. The food had lots of flavor, and there was something for everyone, even for the non-adventurous person. I highly recommend!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
