Boondocks Restaurant

We just love this restaurant in Island Park it was out of this world food We split their beer battered fish and chips and they were absolutely amazing The restaurant was very busy when we came you cannot make reservations but we only had to wait about 20 minutes and it was very well worth the wait. The two waiters there did a fantastic job. Food and drinks are reasonable and very very good The huckleberry cheesecake for dessert was to die for
Note: The Yelp navigation map is wrong. It shows the restaurant .6 miles further down the Yale-Kilgore road. We came to Boondocks a year later, and find it just as good as before. The Coconut Shrimp basket is a winner. They are the most coconut-flavored I have ever tasted. Again, come early - 5:00 is best to get a table. We watched many turn away, unable to be seated later, and that on a Wednesday night!
Boondocks came highly recommended and is in a great location for where we are staying in Island Park. We came for the sweet rolls yesterday but they had sold out. They allowed us to reserve sweet rolls for today. We ordered the fish and chip and the huckleberry cheesecake as an appetizer. Both were delicious! I ordered The Cure. The ham, fried egg, onion rings burger. It would have been better if the egg had a runny yolk. I wish we would have come to Boondocks earlier in our trip so we could come back.

This is one of the best Mexican places in Idaho. We eat at their Idaho Falls location at least twice a week, and the food is perfect every time. Their chips and salsa are awesome, and they have a full bar to go along with all the great food. Their fried ice cream dessert is one of our all time favorites!!
Loved the place! Fast service, easy to navigate menu, kids menu has plenty of choices. My child, who is a very picky eater, had a chicken taco with mango and asked for seconds! Great flavors! Coconut soup is a must try!!
Decent food and great prices. The margaritas don't have any alcohol in them though.

Absolutely beautiful outside seating- cannot beat it. Food was delicious and creative. Kaity was very friendly and accommodating; we will be back again shorty for another round. The views of Henry Fork River and mountains in the background are stellar.
If I were to rate a restaurant on service and ambiance alone, I would give this place 5 stars. But, a restaurant should be rated on the quality of food, so again 5 stars. Also, how much dough you fork out for your meal is a major factor, so 5 again. Lastly, there are all the details that make or break the experience like restroom cleanliness, parking, A/C temp, other patrons, background music... yep, 5 again!
Delicious food and nice atmosphere! We split the pork chop and it was really good! The potatoes that come with it are ok as were the carrots. We went back another day for breakfast and it was quite good and reasonably priced. Be prepared to wait though - it took over thirty minutes from our ordering to get out food both times!

Food much improved! Hello service? We've been coming to Island Park for many summers and Ponds Lodge has always been up and down over the years. The renovated restaurant is looking a bit better and the store has a nicer layout. It also has good gasoline prices for the area. And for free wi-fi junkies, the quick open network is much appreciated as the 3G network can be slow in this neck of the woods. Okay, to the the restaurant: It looks like it's improving in one area: The food! We heard they've hired a new chef and it shows. On the night we were there the dinner was vastly improved. We had a very tasty prime rib (split two ways) and the best blue cheese covered side salad i've had in awhile. And the kids were happy with their choices. The biggest frustration is that service isn't keeping up with the food prep. It's uneven and a bit spacey. And yes, the wait staff needs to work on the outfits they wear, but we are talking IP here - so I can let that slide as long as the service can keep up. After a great dinner we came back the following morning and breakfast service was as slow as pine pitch on cold Island Park winter. As our coffee grew cold waiting for our cream, we started to question our love for the place. It was redeemed a bit when the cook stepped out the kitchen to apologize and helped the clearly overwhelmed waitress - deliver our breakfast. This is all at the height of the summer tourist season. And the place wasn't even that full. What any place needs in my estimation, is great wait staff that remember to make the dining experience easy and relaxed. And a management that spends a bit extra to train and support this place that is clearly on the rebound in our favorite part of Idaho. Three and half stars for dinner minus 1 star for service plus a 3/4 of a star for the cook's handy work.
I stopped at the bar to get lunch and watch football. The service was quick and friendly. The seats weren't super comfortable enough to stay for a long time though. Great Cobb salad, nice serving size, great presentation.
We decided to take the long way from Jackson, WY. to Yellowstone National Park, and we took US 20 through Idaho. It was very early in the morning, and we decided to drive a while before stopping from breakfast. Needless to say, the longer we drove the less choices we had. Finally we stumbled upon Pond's Lodge. At this point, we would have been happy with just a pastry and some coffee. We pulled into the parking lot and it was slightly confusing. There's a small gas station, a convenience store, a saloon, and a restaurant, all attached to the same building. The property looked very clean, so we entered the convenience store to have them point us to the restaurant. It was still early in the morning, and we were told that they would have to seat us in the bar area, which wasn't a problem. The store was clean and had a large array of merchandise. The bar was very clean, quite expansive, and actually quite nice. There were big screen TVs covering the walls, a large bar area, dance floor, and many nice tables for seating. We were the only people in there, so we were seated and waited on immediately. Our waitress was kind and helpful, and she kept the coffee coming. There were 6 of us, and we all ordered your typical breakfast fare. The food was served timely and hot, and we were very impressed with its quality and with the portion size. I'm a large eater and that pancakes were thick, light, and larger than the plate. We all left filled and satisfied. The food was great and plentiful. The prices were very, very reasonable. The place was clean, and the waitstaff was polite. Should we ever get back to that part of the country, we wouldn't hesitate to go back. Definitely a great find!

I've been here several times a year for about 20 years. Spent many good nights in the bar playing pool, listening to music watching hillbillies arguing and beating each other up. (Seriously. I once watched two seventy year old dudes wrestle each other into the pool table. One even lost his eye patch.....) The food has always been decent, as well as the service, though the menu is limited and they are often out of more than one of the menu items. It's where I typically choose for a better meal in the greater island park area. The bad? I don't know who the pack rat is that buys all of the tacky western trinkets and clothing in the middle of the night from the QVC clearance show, but good lord! It's getting ridiculous over the last 5 years and is starting to look like a dimly lit Cracker Barrel. (That's not a good thing) Our waitress tonight was very busy, very patient and very likable. Thank you for being there.
Burger was fantastic! Stopped here while snowmobiling. Service was fast and friendly and food was great.
Good food, fair prices, great staff, and old style traditional saloon. Specials daily and a menu from burgers to steaks and comfort food. Good variety of snacks(meals) in the saloon. Hours vary except during the season. Come see Connie and the gang. Hwy 20 at north Big Springs road in beautiful Island Park.

The beauty surpassed the menu! The good was just ok. The drinks were not great. However the ambience made up for everything. Located on the snake river. Sunset was magical.
This was an anglers paradise! Stayed here for two nights on our way back from Yellowstone. The lodge is awesome! They had the best food we had the whole trip. The Trout and Fettuccini Alfredo were delicious. The front desk, waitress/bartender, & chef were really friendly and fun to talk to. The fishing was good and literally right in front of my room. The owners were very friendly and willing to give fishing suggestions. Would recommend the lodge as a destination vacation or if you are just passing through.
Outstanding views, courteous staff and incredibly comfortable altogether. The only reason for 4 over 5 would be the food. It was average. If I return to Yellowstone, I will stay here again. Very, very peaceful and comfy. And dogs more that welcome!

Very kind service, but still seem to be working out the kinks. Not sure if under new ownership or management, but struggled with some of the basics. Local reviewers or those who live in the area may offer better insight, but for the price, must be better options. I will say, the setting and service were very good!
We came here for lunch. Unfortunately, they have designated times they serve food. We had just finished fishing and were so hungry too. The least they could do was serve appetizers in between times. They only serve drinks during these designated times. We had the drinks but service was sloooooowwww and it wasn't at all busy, only about five others were there.
This restaurant sits on the bank of Henry's Fork River, with good views from both the bar and restaurant. They have a huge outdoor deck overlooking the river, but the sun was a little too hot to eat outside when we were there. My husband had the barbecue ribs dinner and I had a 10 oz. Ribeye. The dinner salads were larger and better quality than most. My dinner was perfect. .. steak cooked to a perfect medium rare as I asked, wonderful real mashed potatoes and brown gravy, and a zucchini, yellow squash medley. My husband's dinner also very good although the ribs were a little sweeter and fattier than desired. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating: Kevin, Chris, Zach & Jay. Since their new chef Chris came on board earlier this year, their food is once again commendable.
