We were in town for a friend's wedding and thought - sushi in Idaho? Hmmm... A foodie friend who's family is local said it is AMAZING and that it rivals some of our favorite places here in San Francisco and she wasn't kidding! They had an amazing selection of different and interesting dishes - (sushi, and otherwise) with really interesting combinations AND fabulous drinks (wasabi martini = YUM!) Even vegetarians and non-fish eaters can enjoy! The waloo (sp?) was seriously some of the best fish I've ever had and we splurged and had dessert on top of it! Ambiance was great, service was fantastic - HIGHLY recommend - am bummed it is so far from home or we'd go back sooner!

Overrated. Also I have to mirror the reviews that the staff is not very friendly and don't seem to care about whether you like the food. I've had a few good things here. I've had many mediocre things here. The kicker was my last visit when I thought I'd just gotten another mediocre meal, but after I got home I revisited the menu and realized that every single roll we ordered was missing at least one component. It was a busy night, but they should fess up if they are out of ingredients. I wish I had put it together while I was there. They have a small menu and I'm sure they know what components are in each roll by heart. So if you do go, keep a menu at your table so you can double check if they left things out. I'll update this review if I go back to Zou.

Awesome Sushi...Innovative, interesting menu imbued with localized Sushi concoctions that are outstanding. You will not find a better sushi joint within 150 miles. Well worth driving from Sun Valley/Ketchum to Hailey the 12 minutes to eat here. The ambiance is very Feng Shui and lots of locals and cool people show up. The staff is responsive and super. One note of CAUTION....Do make reservations...it gets busy...but do not count on the fact that your reservation will be honored when you show up. More than once, our reservation seemed to evaporate mysteriously without good explanation.

My favorite restaurant! Every single thing about Zou was perfect! A hostess was waiting at her station to greet and seat us right away. Our great waiter (Jason?) was very attentive, but not in our faces. The first thing he asked was if we were needing to rush for the play after eating. We were not going to the play, so we were carefully waited on at a wonderful pace. 4 of us picked foods one at a time and that's how it all came. When the first order arrived (dynamite green beans) my first bite was inedible. The young girl who delivered the food offered to take it away and return with another order. I decided to try another and it turned out that was the only bad one. She waited until I made the decision. Every order was perfect after that very minor case. They made a great Gin and Tonic and all the food was hot and outstanding! It's a good thing it's a 20 minute drive from Sun Valley or I'd be eating there every night. Hmmm, is that good or bad?

On a cross country road trip we stopped for the night in Haley, Idaho. We decided to try Zou 75. What a great decision! First, the ambiance: this is a beautiful restaurant, modern decor with warm wood paneling and soft, elegant lighting. Then, the food: as good as it gets! Sushi, Sashimi, rolls and entrees...take your choice. We shared their dynamite green beans which were sublime! Same for their Caterpillar roll with eel and avocado, the latter wrapped outside and the roll shaped like a caterpillar with "eyes and mouth." We also tried their Priestly roll with smoked (lightly) yellowtail. Superb! Finally, the service: excellent and very friendly. We got to chat with Brendan who greeted us when we walked in and came by our table to ask if we were satisfied...we're from New York and he hails from Long Island so we easterners hit it off. This was a great experience after a long day of driving through the beauty that is this part of Idaho. If we could give it another star, we would!

This is probably my favorite sushi restaurant. I would never have expected such good sushi for the middle of the country but it rocks! Some of my favorites are maguro katsu, beef tataki, dynamite green beans and the specials from the sushi chefs. They also make an awesome vodka gimlet martini! I would eat there more often if I lived closer!

The best rolls are half cab roll, Maguro bites, the hailey roll destyled. Hard to imagine sushi could be so good in a mountain town, but it is!

Shrimp bites, chef selection roll, south valley roll d style. Island Martini. The best sushi in the Hailey / ketchum / sun valley area. Making a reservation is recommended always if possible as this place can get busy. Also the fried green beans are excellent!! And if you like it spicy then the "fire on the roll" is a must!!!

As a lone business traveler, I randomly landed here and had a wonderful bar dining experience. The bar tender was friendly and offered good suggestions without being overbearing. The food, albeit a little pricey, was delicious and was wonderfully presented. The Shrimp bites and accompanying sauce was AMAZING, pot stickers were good, and the Kai roll was delicious. Looking forward to coming back.

Best sushi, great service. Anytime I am looking for some yummy sushi we go to Zou. My favorite is everything!!! We have been eating here for ten years now and Zou still finds a way to surprise us with new and interesting flavor combinations. Make sure you call ahead for reservations, the place fills up fast.

The sushi here is on par with what you would pick up in Whole Foods. Not Good. Do not expect this place to deliver San Francisco or Los Angeles quality sushi or you will be, as I was, very disappointed. I will say that the salad with pan flashed sea bass was very good....the fish was cooked perfectly. But as for the sushi, the rice was not properly cooked and seasoned, sauces were much too sweet, and everything tasted as though it were made hours ago and refrigerated. Also, the service was slow and the mediocre food was overpriced. If you're looking for a good meal in the area try Enoteca in Ketchum.

Literally, the best sushi in the state of Idaho. Not only is the food fantastic but the atmosphere is very inviting as well. The rolls are extremely creative. Highly recommended

Friendly folks at the bar are attentive and make good recommendations without seeming overbearing. I stop here on my way between sun valley and stanley. Try the duck spring rolls and the 5 spice ribs if they have them that night.

Ambiance was nice and service was very friendly. The food was pretty good, but not too exciting. I think I am spoiled with the Sushi Bar in my hometown of McCall, Idaho and unfairly held that as my standard for Zou 75. Fun martini menu and overall a good time.

GREAT! Pricey but well worth it. Sushi should be a dining experience and this is an excellent experience. South Haley roll, try it!

Hands down best restaurant of the valley right here. The waiters are totally friendly, and the food is AMAZING. If ever down in Hailey, a trip to zou is a must. For a larger group, you can reserve the back room which is super fun, and kid friendly.

I was recently a 2-week visitor in Hailey, ID, and had heard about Zou75 from my host and colleagues. I've only recently become a sushi fan, as I avoided seafood for the last 20 years -- not really sure why, I think a traumatic childhood experience. Anyway, we made late reservations, which I would not necessarily recommend as the owner informed as after the fact that many items sell out each night, especially the spicy tuna bites. You could make a meal for 6 people simply on the appetizer/small plates page of the menu. Veggies/beef/raw fish/cooked fish, everything was fabulous. The sauces that accompanied each item were succulent and perfect compliments to the main dish. You have to try the green beans, tuna bites, and the beef tataki. In fact, just order two beef tataki's then go from there. The beef tataki was so delicious that I came back 3 nights later to try the Kobe (I think it was Kobe) steak with wasabi mashed potatoes. It was tasty, and a decent value for $30, but I'd probably stick to the double or tripple order of tataki if I was to go for beef again. I only sampled one thing of the sushi roll menu, and that was the South Valley roll. Yummy. Be prepared to drop some coin, as you'll just keep ordering more and more things. I spent about $140 for two of us, which included 1 cocktail and 3 glasses of wine. Steep, IMHO, but worth it for a nice night out. Oh yeah, the place is quite dark depending on where you sit and it can be tough to read the menu. They have reading glasses at the host stand if you need them. I didn't, but they were offered.

DO NOT EAT HERE! Sitting at the sushi bar, the so called baseball hat backwards, full time snowboarder sushi "maker" actually asked me if I wanted to " fight" over the definition of sushi when I ordered 2 pieces of tuna. My family is Japanese, as am I. I know the definitions of various forms of nigiri, sashimi et al. I am not familiar with a server actually threatening to pick a fight ( non-ironically) with a patron - ever- much less over an order. The service continued to be disorganized, the food ridiculously overpriced and one of the worst dining experiences ever. AVOID!

The tuna tartar (extra spicy) had fantastic flavor but there was only 10% tuna the majority of the appetizer was chopped up cucumber and avocado. It was not worth the $17. All the food was good and fresh but the service was slow and lousy. I would recommend reservations if you decide to go. Overall the food was overpriced and service was lousy.

Definitely some of the best sushi I've ever eaten, and I've had a lot of sushi. I didn't feel like writing a review tonight, but the 3.5 star rating is simply ridiculous.

Give it a try! If you have a decent sized party try and reserve the back room. The shrimp in the rice bowl I had was not seasoned properly. The rest of my group ate every bite though! Get sushi when you go and try and get the chef's special

I absolutely love Zou! I have never had a bad meal here. All of their rolls are awesome as well as their salads and soups. They have many choices for those skittish about eating raw fish (I don't order it). I love their margarita "Gorgeous George", it is fabulous. The atmosphere is also classy. A great choice for special meals or lunches.

My husband took me here for my birthday last year. He's not a huge sushi fan, but made the sacrifice for me. :) First of all, the food was WONDERFUL. Pricey for sure, but expected for the area and what I imagine are high costs to get quality food in a not so populated area of Idaho. We had the duck spring rolls and fried green beans for appetizers. I had two sushi rolls and my husband had the steak with wasabi mashed potatoes and veggies. We both also had a few drinks which were pretty good. A little pricey, but again, expected for the area. Aside from the food I was a tad disappointed. The place was busy as I expected it to be, but it was SO LOUD. I felt like I was in an Irish Pub instead of a fine dining establishment. I couldn't even have a conversation with my husband without feeling like I was shouting at him across the table. I guess I'm used to higher end sushi places being a relaxing and more quiet eating experience even when busy. The service was OK. My husband had to ask for a fork and knife to eat his steak dinner and although the young kids working there kept up on the water filling and clearing away of empty plates barely anyone bothered to ask how everything was and we had to flag people down to get things we needed. Not something we should have to do when dropping $150 on a meal for two. Our server was OK. She was polite and everything in our order was correct, but she seemed more busy socializing with the table behind us who were some of the loudest/most drunk people in the place than taking care of us and making our experience worth the money. I might try it again if I was in the area during the "off season" but I don't know. We will have to see how strong my sushi craving is next time I'm in town. :)

I hate sushi. But love this place. I am a little bit mentally disturbed now. We sat at the bar and the chef, Derek, and I started chatting. He told me what most non-Sushi people had problems with texture and fishy taste, which he nailed me to the T. Then he asked my girlfriend a few more questions about taste and made us a roll that was beyond believable. I think she wants to marry him now. Dang it! Anyway my recommendations is to sit at the bar and tell the chef your preferences and you will get amazing sushi.

Absolutely hands down best sushi I have ever eaten!! I lived in portland, or for quite sometime and am a sushi addict where Portland has some of the best sushi anywhere and this place beats it out!

One of my all-time favorite sushi places. Great ambiance and tasty food! Whether an evening with family (with children), friends or both, Zou is the perfect choice and worth the price for all my favorites.

The sushi and sake (the drink) is good. I was impressed with the quality of the food. Walking in just before closing we ate at the bar and wasn't rushed even though the staff was closing up for the night. The staff was patient with us while we decided on the rolls to have. They even went through their list of sake even though the bartender was getting ready to close. Having had sushi throughout the San Fransisco Bay Area I have to admit was I was a bit suspicious of the quality of sushi in Sun Valley area. Mile from any sea food but I was pleasantly surprised. If you're in the mood for sushi while in Hailey or Sun Valley then try this place out.

A four word summary of the following review: Awesome sushi. Eat here! I'm not sure how I ended up in Hailey. It was probably like most out-of-towners who are on their way to Sun Valley (Ketchum) and flew into Hailey. Well I flew in with an appetite! I decided to try Zou 75. I must admit that I was a little skeptical at first. I mean Idaho is the potato state, right? This is my first time here and I live in San Francisco where sushi is held to a pretty high standard. I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised. The interior is very chic and charming. I started with a mixed green salad with poki and soy sauce vinaigrette. Very delicious, especially when topped with shoestring potatoes. They also had a selection of rolls that had a local flavor to them. In one roll I had smoked rainbow trout and I dipped it in some Sriracha aoili. Yummers! They also have a selection of standard sushi rolls. Another great thing about this place was the small-town service to it. The hostess and servers were genuinely friendly and welcoming. That's something unique to small town America. All in all, I had a great meal here and I love how they've put a local twist to it. You're bound to experience a set of flavors you're not likely to find anywhere else, even in sushi havens like SF, LA or NYC.

Slightly over priced, and often over crowded with poor service. I have been there 3 times now, and each time there has been a service or food related mistake, so at least they are consistent. If you feel like spending a lot of money and time, try the green bean or ahi appetizers. Sushi rolls are a little too foo-foo, and have very tiny amounts of fish.

An odd foreward: I do not eat sushi. Because I can't eat fish/anything aquatic, I avoid sushi restaurants and when I'm dragged to one, I order chicken teriyaki or tempura vegetables, which are bland afterthoughts for the chefs. But Zou's non-fish items are delicious, pure and simple. The duck spring rolls and pork potsticker apps were great. I ordered the steak which had a Japanese spice rub, which came with fried onions, garlic broccoli and veggies, and saving the best for last, wasabi mashed potatoes. I thought I was in the best steakhouse ever. And get this, one of the house specialties, the Zou Rolls, are sushi with sweet potato. Take that, California Rolls! The ambiance, cocktails (wasabi martini! Think not-too-sweet lemon drop with a kick), the staff--top notch all the way around. Oh, and my fishy friends loved the sushi, which I believe is because the fish is flown in daily from Hawaii.
