This is a very good restaurant for German food. The ownership takes pride in this restaurant and it shows. The food quality is always over-the-top.

Small, noisy, very good rouladen, great beer, good +- sausages, very blah curry sauce. Good pretzels. Friendly.

Went to the Garten tonight. I've been in Boise for 4 years and have never had better food. I ate the Rheinische Haxin which was AMAZING; pork shank and gravy. The bread dumplings were so delicious. I have been EVERYWHERE IN BOISE and have not had food better than what I had tonight. The homemade food is something all other restaurants in Boise should learn from.

Myself and two friends decided to try Schnitzel Garten. The service was excellent and the food was great. I had the Kase Spatzle which was kind of a German style Macoroni and cheese. We did notice there was no bread served which we thought was very unusual for a German restaurant. It was also very warm inside the restaurant, don't know if they AC was not working or what. It was about 90 degrees outside and it seemed cooler than inside the restaurant.

Delicious authentic German food in a fun dining atmosphere. The pricing may seem steep but there are a good mix of inexpensive dishes as well and the portions are huge, very conducive to sharing. There is live music on most Fridays. The owners are very friendly. The food came out quickly and was delicious. We had the pretzels with a delicious mustard sauce. One is plenty to share for two people. I ordered the ragout. It was hearty and great winter food. The best was my husbands entree, the Jaeger schnitzel. Oh.my .goodness. The mushroom sauce was heaven. We asked for an extra dish I poured over my meal and another extra dish to go. The noodles were like mom makes them and so good swimming in that mushroom sauce. We finished off with the apple strudel, yum yum. We will be back to try the n noodles with gouda cheese and bacon, and to order the sausage sampler. What a fun place to discover right in our neck of the woods.

Sick of the usual? Tired of unfriendly staff while telemundo blasts over your burrito? Give this place a shot. I have been here 3 times and i can't wait to go back. I start drooling just thinking about it. I've had the Zigeuner and Jäger schnitzels and they're fantastic. The Apfel strudel is all flavor without being overly sweet. They also have Hofbrau beer served by the liter. The restaurant has a classy feel that and makes that 2nd liter of Hofbrau tough to resist. I wish they were downtown Boise, but i save a lot of money this way.

I just finished lunch and I have to say that I have not had this good of an experience at a new restaurant in a long time. Great food and service! The menu is very authentic and tasty. My wife and I tried the cheese spaetzle, curry wurst, and onion schnitzel. All of the dishes were excellent! If you haven't had curry ketchup before, you must try the curry wurst!

I've enjoyed German food from this establishment both dine-in and take-out. Dad and I absolutely love the food. The schnitzel is a very generous portion of thin-pounded and fried meat. Can't go wrong there. And it's accompanied by the most sublime mushroom gravy. It's so good. SO. GOOD. Portions are so generous that we may split the schnitzel entree next time. The spaetzle is delightful, as is the cheese version. Dad also enjoyed the beet salad. We aren't cucumber fans, so we did not try that salad. The building is easy to find, but the restaurant isn't. There's no way to tell from the parking lot exactly how to get there... if you even make it to the parking lot. It's pretty tricky. Definitely call to get assistance instead of driving yourself nuts looking. This is a place to visit or order take-out from when you have plenty of time on your hands. Don't attempt it when you're in a hurry. There's not much in the way of ambiance, especially for the prices they charge. Patio diners are seated on picnic tables. Speaking of pricing, check around (i.e. Entertainment book) for coupons and special offers.

We tryed it all.. Sausage sampler, chicken schnitzel, pork schnitzel, sauerkraut, red cabbage, and of course Germany BIG BEER. All very good but the schnitzel is very very good. It's a small restaurant that is pretty laid back and comfortable. Family friendly. The only thing on the down side is location and hours of operation. Oh and they were out of pretzels? What the heck? German restaurant out of pretzels? But the fresh in house made apple strudel made up for it. Oh my I almost forgot to tell everyone about the cheesy spaetzle was awesome. It had bacon in it.. Hello.. so good. Going back for lunch this week.

Had this place on my bookmarks for a while, pretty high expectations... Went as a couple, which I now know is not ideal for this family style joint. It's kind of difficult to locate, the arrow towards the door is very small, which is around the corner of where you park. The menu will make you drool, such exciting choices, you will take a long time to decide. Probably a good idea to order a pretzel while you search. BUT not the cheese pretzel, it's store bought shredded cheese melted on top halfway, perhaps a traditional style, but it kind of sucked. I went all in for a schnitzel with egg, sardine, and capers. So stoked! Unfortunately it was dry and overcooked. $21, gone! The pork and potato dumplings were very home cooked, grandma's kitchen style, brought me back to my old kitchen table. This is the highlight of our experience. Three stars for half decent meals, and the price. These meals come in baskets, no plates for sharing, bench seats, and minimal atmosphere. Why is this a problem? $98 after tip for two people!!! Two pretzels, sangria (so-so), smoked beer (!), two meals, and dessert. This has to be the largest rip in Idaho.

This was our first time coming here. Based on previous reviews we expected it to be hard to find, but it wasn't. We were seated quickly and drinks ordered which arrived pretty quick. We had looked over the menu online ahead of time so we had a good idea of what we wanted to order. We started with a pretzel and the sweet mustard was quite good. We put our order in, but I was quite irked that the website prices were not the same as the actual menu prices, even though the website was basically a scanned copy of the menu. The weiner schnitzel was listed for $13 online but was actually $18 on the restaurant menu. I went back to double check that I hadn't made a mistake and I had not. Online had it as $13. But we came to try that and the spätzel so we went with it. The food took quite some time to arrive. From the time we ordered to the time the food came it was close to 30 mins. Good thing we had had that pretzel. The food was alright. Never having had either dish before we didn't have anything to compare it to. But neither me nor my hubs loved what we had. The portions were huge though so if we had liked it better we would've loved it for lunch the next day kind of thing. But being that it was just alright... we may or may not eat the leftovers. I opted out of the cucumber salad and went with the garden salad instead. That was delicious. Really good dressing. The spätzel was quite heavy. I had the chicken weiner schnitzel. The chicken tasted somewhat bland and relied too much on the gravy for flavor. Our waitress was good but she had nearly every table to attend to so was quite busy. From the prev reviews I was expecting no ambiance but I was fine with the decor and interior. Majority of the seating consisted of large wooden picnic type tables and we actually shared a table with a family of 4 we didn't know but that wasn't too bad. Overall we were happy to have tried a new place. But more for the fact that we stepped out of our comfort zone than how happy we were overall. Will we go back? Probably not. The prices were misleading and a soda was $3.50. Really? We spent $48 for the two of us for food that was just alright. So next time we'll probably skip it. Oh but the live accordion music was fun.

My mom and I just went to the Schnitzel Garten. It's an authentic German cuisine restaurant located in Eagle, Idaho. This restaurant had some of the best food I've ever ate. My mom, who grew up in a German home, commented on how good this German food is. It's now one of our favorite restaurants. It was very quaint and family like atmosphere. The front manager moved from Germany to United States five years ago. I absolutely will be going back.

A group of us met at Schnitzel Garten on a Thursday evening. I used my GPS for directions, but still had a difficult time locating the restaurant as it is on a corner of a 'mini mall' and not very visible from the street as you a driving along. I was surprised at how rustic the decor and seating were, given reviews I'd read (and the prices) I'd expected something a bit more upscale- however I've taken this as a lesson NOT to expect things when going to visit a new (to me) eatery. It was early on a pleasant fall evening, so our party chose to sit outside. Seating consists of picnic tables, Plastic tablecloths if you are inside, but none if you are outside. If you are a person of size, or have any issue that makes picnic table seating difficult or uncomfortable be warned. The few folks who'd arrived ahead of us were settled and had ordered drinks. There were baskets on the table with paper napkins and silverware, a few drink menus and a few 'Ocktoberfest' menus (a scaled down menu for the restaurant that stated it was served until October 6th, yet here is was October 9th). It became apparent after a few minutes that they were either short staffed, or that there was only one primary server. Knowledgeable about the menu and how things were prepared, but, as became more apparent later, either overworked or simply short fused in terms of dealing with other staff, AND without the best method of serving a group. My husband and me were not drinking that night, so I ordered a soda ($3.50 for a PINT and nary a refill offered all evening), he had water(again no refill offered). Interesting to note though that others at our table who were imbibing in wine or beer, seemed to get plenty of attention in terms of refills, even water. Ah well, a small thing. We started our Schnitzel Garten dining experience with a Schinken Kase Bretzel, a pretzel roll with cheese and bacon bits. This arrived hot and fresh, with a soft and tasty bretzel (pretzel) base, plenty of melted cheese and absolutely heavenly bacon (not prefab 'bits' but chopped pieces of glorious bacon). My husband had decided to go the pasta route, ordering the Jager Spatzle- a freshly prepared dish of pasta, bacon, onion, mushroom and cheese. I opted for the Jager Schnitzel using pork- which is a pork loin pounded flat, breaded and fried, served with a mushroom sauce- I chose sauerkraut and cucumber salad (gurkensalat) as my sides. We experienced the aforementioned interaction between the server and a young man helping her out when the entrees for our group began to arrive. The young man (perhaps new to his position) was uncertain if the meat on the schnitzel he was bringing to our party was chicken, pork or veal (it appeared they used color flagged toothpicks to mark them, but he wasn't sure). When he asked the help of the server as she went by she basically snapped at him "Do I look like the cook to you?" and kept going. So the young man had to return inside the restaurant with the food to ask. Having done my time on tile floors working in food service, I know it's not easy, but I was astounded that this type of interaction took place in full view of our party. Back to the food.. While we were quite impressed with our bretzel appetizer, this same could not be said for our entrees. My husbands Jager Spatzle needed more cheese, and just seemed to be bland. I tried some at the restaurant, and then the next day we heated the leftover portion. Indeed it needed more cheese. I discovered that schnitzel is pretty much a glorified chicken fried steak, and I'm sorry to say that I've experienced better 'chicken fried' meats in other Boise establishments for half the cost of what we spent this evening. The mushroom sauce was good, but there needed to be more of it. I am used to the edges of anything 'chicken fried' being crispy. with my Jager schnitzel however, the cripsy (dare I say overcooked?) seemed to be advanced further to the center of the meat that it should have. The Gurkensalat was the HIGHLIGHT of my entree.. a cucumber salad in a creamy base (Sour cream perhaps? Buttermilk?)- thinly sliced cucumbers and dill. It was quite refreshing. The sauerkraut was a disappointment. It seemed much like the very same foodservice 10 gallon bucket sauerkraut I've seen on the condiment bar at Costco or any stadium. No caraway, no peppers, nothing to make it any different than the jar of sauerkraut in my own fridge at home. Am I being to nitpicky to think that in a German restaurant I might find something that stands out a bit more? When our main course was complete, even though no one asked us about it, the group began to consider dessert. In a whirl wind stop, the server spoke to about half the group sharing the three choices available that evening. Being at the other end of the table, we missed out and got the 411 from the rest of the group. Cheesecake, and Apple Strudel and

Yikes. The food was decent but $72 plus a tip comes to $85 for 2 entrees, 2 beers 1 glass of wine and dessert is about $15-20 too high. The Mrs was born and raised in Germany and we travel there regularly so we have at least a passing idea of what German food should be Ike. The schnitzel was just right, pounded nice and thin, a big portion, nicely breaded, hot and fresh and served with lemons like it should be. A $7 up charge for veal is a little pricey too for an entree that already is priced at $20. The sauce on the jaeger schnitzel was good too, nice and rich with plenty of mushrooms and favor but the sauce portion was to small for the nicely sized schnitzel. Here is where they missed the mark, the cucumber salad had way, repeat way too much vinegar and dill and the dressing was too thin. Cucumber salad should have a thick sour cream base to it not the the Ebola consistency crap that was served. If you want more stars then you must also serve good pumpernickel bread with high quality butter with the meal, we got nothing. The red cabbage, AkA in Germany as rott kraut was ok, but was luke warm. The spatzle had not a touch of nutmeg like REAL German spatzle should have. Oh and FYI your ambiance leaves a lot to be desired and picnic tables, come on! The waitress was nice, but could have been a bit more attentive to our table. The German hooker style dirndle (that is a dress for you non Bavarian types) has to go too. If you want a decent for Boise, expensive German meal the Schnitzel House is the spot. If you are looking a place with authentic German cuisine to take a date to, keep looking. You first date with her might be your last! The Mrs and I give it two thumbs down for value and ambiance and one thumb up and one downgrade for the food.

Georgina was my waitress , very nice, well she is German and so am I so naturally I liked it there in the beer garden. They got all the good beers on draft, I wish they had a happy hour. ..it's gonna be tough to talk my coworkers into paying 7 bucks for a beer after work. I had the Wiener Schnitzel which was cooked perfectly. I also grid their pretzels and Weisswurst, the pretzel was nice and crispy outside and soft inside. The flavor was ok but I have a higher standard since I make my own. The weisswurst however was too dense the flavor was ok. I think they need to tell their butcher to incorporate more ice.

Wow! I feel like I just got off the plane in Germany. The food definitely transported me back to fond food memories of the last time I was there. We started out with a pretzel and, let me say, just trust me and order one. We actually ordered one to go also. For dinner I had one of the specials-- Rheinische Hax'n. It was a braised pork shank that was incredibly tender and flavorful. It was served with 2 dumplings that I would describe as (delicious) A German Thanksgiving in a ball. It was quite tasty. And as tasty as mine was, my husband's ragout was even better. Now for the apple strudel. It was yummy. So with the good comes the bad. The parking sucks. It was in the corner of a business complex that is only accessible by foot. So, for a quick synopsis, eat here! Eat here a lot. We want to keep this authentic German restaurant open.

Curry wursy is amazing, the red cabbage is always fantastic, the staff is super friendly and the setting is delightful! If you haven't been here yet you have to try it. Many diffferent brats & wonderful traditional dishes to choose from. We have never been dissapointed, always gave a great meal and experience here.

If you haven't been, go. Went with a couple of other folks - collectively did the pretzel basket, jager schnitzel, brats, sauerkraut, and mashed potatoes, as well as some beer. No complaints on the food - great schnitzel, great brats, great beer (available in your choice of .5l, 1l, or DAS BEER BOOT) - several German beers on tap. Smaller spot, only a few tables (if you're planning on about 6 or more, call and get a reservation). The location oozes more of the standard "Eagle faux-Tuscan" vibe than the dark tavern feel of, e.g., Die Bierstube in Seattle, but well-placed decor (and the night we were there, the accordion player) set the German setting quite well. Service was a bit on the slower side, but nothing unbearable and still very friendly - I mean, beer and accordion music, you can wait a couple extra minutes for the tab to get resolved... Will definitely go again . . .

The Yager schnitzel was amazing. The mushroom sauce on top was so good that we asked for a container to take home. They gave us a container. The owner ran restaurants in Germany; this is the only authentic German restaurant in the area. Staff was friendly and live music was great. I'll for sure be back.

We stopped in for lunch on a Sunday. The decor was okay, but in a building that just didn't feel right for the venue. The entrance was around the corner and down a long walkway from the parking, and a cold draft chilled the entire room every time someone came in or out. Prices were higher than I had expected, and the service was very, very slow. I like experimenting with ethnic food, but German just may not be my thing! The spaetzle I ordered was greasy, heavy, without much texture, and served in much too large a portion. Maybe that makes it authentic, but I would have preferred to be served about 1/3 the amount, with some kind of veggies included as a side! My husband had the pork shank, which he said was okay, although not particularly noteworthy. Overall, a disappointing experience . . . but I still think it would be fun to try their house-made sausages some time. I wish a smaller sampler of their sausage selections were available . . . say, a slice of each! But their sausage sampler platters are $38 for two people, or $72 for four.

YIKES! Were we just on an episode of Restaurant Impossible? If not, they need to be. Clearly the decision to serve free beer during Gemany playing in the world cup was a bad choice. Staff was over served and this was embarrassing and simply a lack of judgement of the leadership. Food......well you really can't mess up schnitzel however the spaetzle was dry, bland and disappointing. The manager, maybe owner tried to smooth things over by saying he let his team let loose for the world cup, but it was hard to understand what he was saying as he also was over served. The only ones holding it together, were kids not old enough to drink and they tried and they knew this was going to be a bad night. This place was a nightmare, and it was disappointing. May try it again, but probably won't. What a shame and what a waste.

This is one of my first experiences with German cuisine (I mean, I make aebleskivers every Christmas morning...and who HASN'T had a brat or two...but my German cuisine experience is definitely limited). I went with a large group of yelpers (monthly Supper Club UYE). There were 12 of us and we chose to dine outside in their rather large patio area as the weather was sublime. Even though it was a few days past their advertised Octoberfest special (bogo beer and wine), our server was kind enough to allow us the deal (without any prompting from any of us). Not only that (!!), but my main dining companion and I ordered and shared a bottle of wine, which, according to their advertised special, would not fall under the bogo deal unless we bought a 2nd bottle. However, they gave it to us for half price. My dining companion also ordered a single beer, which they also gave us for half price. Having been to other places in town that offer various bogo happy hour deals that have so many rules it boggles the mind (ahem...Barbacoa)--I really appreciated their easy going attitude about this. And, all of this was without any prompting from us. My dining companion and I split their chicken onion schnitzel. They allow you to split the schnitzel, while still giving each person a full serving of sides, which was a nice way to do it as it still provided plenty of food. The chicken schnitzel was just ok. The onions, which, according to the menu, were supposed to have been carmelized, were not. They were still fully white (not even transparent). So, that was kind of a bummer. The chicken itself was solid, but not sure I'm a fan of this style of meat (kind of bland, overall). I had the cheese spaetzle as my side, which was full of bacon and cheesy goodness. My meal also came with sliced cucumber in a lovely dill dressing, which was surprisingly tasty. For dessert we ordered and shared the apple strudel with ice cream, which was large and plenty for two people. It was also good. Our server can only be described as a fire cracker. She had us in stitches several times. The service was a bit slow (I'm told this is a German thing?)and not terribly attentive (glasses stood empty for a long time, etc)..but I will say, having gone to many restaurants with a large group--I DID appreciate the fact that she kept track of the orders well and none of our tickets were incorrect in any way (not that I heard, anyway--ours was exactly right). I'd like to try it again, next time ordering something from their sausage menu instead of schnitzel and I really want to try their pretzel apps. Until then, though, going to have to go with 3 stars.

Unfortunately the service here continues to go downhill. You can never plan to get waited on in a timely fashion. They seen to be understaffed all the time. The food is still good but really it is hardly worth the price and wait. I really feel bad for the staff as I don't think it is their fault as much as the owner that seems to be oblivious to the pain of the staff and the effect on the customer experience.

This restaurant reminded us of Bavaria! The jäger schnitzel was great and my wife had a huge pork shank. Great menu selections and many imported german beers. We're visiting for several days and are already planning on coming back!

Outstanding service, and the best Jägerschnitzel I've ever had. I missed the sauerbraten by a week, but if you are there in mid December, it will be the go-to dish. Don't forget to finish our meal with a glass of Glühwein! Pröst!

Although I had to convince my husband to try Schnitzel Garten, we both had a good time, and a good meal. The restaurant has large picnic-style tables, which could hold a big group at each table. It's not a fancy restaurant--they have achieved a laid back, German public house kind of feel. They seemed a little short staffed, but maybe it was just the particular night. Our German waitress (who I can only presume is one of the owners), was, in true German form, very efficient in handling the entire restaurant all by herself. She didn't even seem flustered. They serve German beer and wine (my husband was excited because they even sell a 2L boot of beer). We ordered the sausage sampler platter, which was good, but WAY too much food for two people. I didn't think the pretzel or the fries were anything special, but the German-style mashed potatoes and sauerkraut were delicious. They have really tasty house-made sausages and dipping sauces to go with them. Unlike America-style mustard, their mustards were subtle, interesting, and very complimentary to each type of sausage. We left in a major food coma. We were informed that this is the ONLY German restaurant in Idaho. It is seriously a good experience. It takes a lot to get us to go to Eagle for dinner, but we'll be back.

  • Emily G.

This place is really legit. They make their own sourkraut, and the sausage is their own recipe. The sausage sampler was delicious - the sauces have so much flavor! Loved the pretzels and mustard. The service was very friendly and knowledgeable, and the atmosphere was authentic - like being in Europe! I would definitely eat here again and recommend it to everyone! Also, we had a baby with us, and the staff was very friendly and patient with her. I'd label this restaurant family-friendly.

Such a great place. Courtland and Elena, fantastic hosts. Started off sampling beers; great German beers. After which I ordered a full glass of a dark beer that didn't taste dark at all. Awesome stuff. Ordered the Jaeger Schnitzel. Fantastic. Prior to my meal showing up a Pretzel with sauce found me. This was a good start but my main course came out shortly after. SOOOO worth it. Love the place. Food and beer were spot on. Looking forward to heading back.

Wow! Fun to try something different! Great service (from Georgene) & accent to boot! She was well versed to explain differences to novice German food eaters...and with a smile. Decided on the Jaegar Schnitzel and from other review, knew to order bit extra mushroom sauce (which added great depth & flavor to the spaetzel). Also, the pork schnitzel was best and you really should try a bit of lemon squezed on..provides a nice brght punch! Another in our party had the Brat Wusrt (DELISH) and the Curry catsup...really tasty and different! ONLY reason didn't get 5 stars is for the older members in our group (86 & 89!) struggled with the picnic bench style seats (we were quick to grab table when one came up!) It was very chilly today& with such small place, every time door opened was bit brisk, we put our coats back on! Also. ..make sure to try the Cheese Spaetzel...bacon, cheese etc. ..could have eaten just this! Overall, great experience, little pricey for 5 of us ($90) but greatly enjoyed!

Very cool place to go, it was German through and through. The only downside is that the place was very hard to find. It is actually on State Street, but has a Winding Creek (or whatever it was) address. We found ourselves driving from one parking lot.... To another... To another... Before we figured out where it was.

Nothing Nothing but good, hearty food. Everyone at the table had different entrées so got to taste four dishes: ziguener schnitzel, Weisbadener geshnetzeltes, sauerbraten, and curry wurst. All were delicious but the Weisbadener geshnetzeltes was the best - pork stew served over a bed of mashed potatoes. We started with a pretzel. It was really soft - like Wonder bread. I don't know enough about German food to know if that's traditional but I prefer my bread to be a bit chewy. This seemed like it had been warmed in the microwave. The accompanying mustard could have been purchased down the street at the grocery store. We, unfortunately, didn't get a knowledgeable waitress so she wasn't able to explain a lot of things. We wondered about the difference between the red cabbage and the sauerkraut. Her answer was that they were different types of cabbage and different colors. We ended up tasting both. FYI - the red cabbage is also fermented but not as tangy as the sauerkraut. We all split two desserts: tiroler kaiserschmarn and apflestrudel. Both were delicious and the table was split about the favorite. Was a bit spend - $85 for each couple. We'll go back occasionally but would go back more often if it were less expensive.

Great real German food. The Jagr Schnitzel is my favorite. The assortment of beers is great! The Owner is very friendly, and very accommodating in answering all our questions. We moved here from Chicago, and I missed my favorite German places - My family and I are very happy to have found this one of a kind gem!

This was our first visit to this new German restaurant in Eagle. They have been open for only a few weeks but there seems to be a following already. We went on a Friday evening and got there early. We were seated at a table for four and we were offered drinks right away. Our server, Michael, was very helpful and explained the menu and dishes to us. I had Ziguener Hahnchen(chicken in a paprika sauce) which was delicious with just the right amount of paprika and peppers almost like a Hungarian dish. My husband had the Jaeger Schnitzel, a pork cutlet pounded very thin, breaded, fried and topped with a creamy mushroom sauce. That also was excellent, and was a huge portion, so we ended up taking some home. Our son chose Wiener Schnitzel, a plain breaded chicken cutlet. As the sides, we all chose the spatzle, a thin egg noodle that is traditionally served with German food. We sampled Kaiserschmarrn(slices of pancake with a plum sauce) and Apple Strudel. Both were good and tasted freshly homemade. By the time we were ready to leave almost all of the tables were occupied. There was some live music of an accordion player with a small keyboard. I would say that we didn't find that an attraction. The restaurant is small and I think just some recorded background music is sufficient. I noticed they also have a garden setting next to the restaurant with picnic tables and there were several people sitting out there. There were trees planted and also some in pots that the hostess said they were going to plant. In fact once the garden is complete maybe a small band on the weekends outdoors in nice weather would be nice. I'm glad to see a German restaurant here in the area. I think once they get more established and the word gets out the Schnitzel Garten could become a great addition to the Treasure Valley!
