Wonderful, authentic mexican food. We had a huge bowl of fresh made chicken soup. Warning: all portions are large. The chicken soup had lots of veggies, large pieces of uncut chicken, and a savory broth. It came with warm corn tortillas. I cant wait to try it again. We ate on the patio; not much of a view but a nice shady spot.

Geat authentic Mexican fare. Worth a drive to Bayview and Mario and his family are so nice as well. The restaurant is not fancy but the food makes up for it.

Mario's is wonderful!! This place is a must if you're ever in Bayview! There's outdoor seating with an option of being shaded under a beautiful tree. There are two tree swings and lights that run throughout. The food itself is a reason to stop by - authentic and made with love from a family owned business - what more could you ask for? Beer, huckleberry margaritas, ice-cream, complimentary chips and salsa, it's all there! Mario's is our new Bayview tradition.

Love going to Marios... for lunch. For dinner. Heck even on a Friday night for beer and karaoke. The owner, Mario, and his daughter Sophie are top notch. So friendly and helpful. Always a great filling meal, fantastic service and entertaining conversation with Mario (when he's not too busy). It is a MUST stop!

My family and I found this little restaurant in bay view and thought we would try it. My family was amazed at the selections of salsa's brought to the table with our chips! You have to ask what Mario's special is and sample it. We chose from the selection he brought out it was amazing!! My husband even tried to beat the burrito record, it was huge!!! We had so much fun!! Mario and his family were so nice we now have a new favorite place!!

Brand new mexican restaurant in Bayview! Mario and his family have brought incredible authentic mexican food to this little lake side town and it is awesome! His menu has some really unusual items you don't normally see, a HUGE array of salsas from mild to cook you from the inside out, and all the usuals you look for at other places. The difference is his food is incredible! Don't be surprised if Mario comes out to visit during your meal. He is always open to suggestions and willing to try new stuff out. We absolutely love this place as it has quickly become a favorite!

Fantastic food, charming outdoor dining area and obviously a hard working family running this place. It was a bit busy when we were there, and it took awhile for anyone to take our order and then again for the food to arrive. However...when it did get there it was very good! A man I believe must have been the owner came out with extra chips and an iceberg lettuce salsa (YUM...who knew???) to compensate for the long wait. We would probably return if we are ever back in the area.....

Great Mexican Food! Family owned. Servers are friendly and helpful. They have a vegetarian menu, kids menu, standard Mexican fare, and kick a$$ margaritas. They have several meat choices including ground and shredded beef, shrimp, chicken, and pork. My party ate there on a Friday night and the place was very busy. The service was a little chaotic, but our food arrived in good time anyway and it was delicious. We ate outside on the patio, where there were 9 or so tables. There was additional seating inside. They serve Breakfast too, omelets, eggs, pancakes, and Mexican breakfast items. If you are camping at Farragut State Park and are tired of your own cooking, this would be a great alternative!

Literally the most authentic and best Mexican food I have had in the country! I travel all over the country for work, including the southwest, and have been on a mission to find a Mexican restaurant that is half as good as Mario's and have yet to find it. We had been eating at his restaurant in Bonners Ferry for four years and were devastated that he moved to beautiful Bayview, but it is still worth the hour plus drive to taste a slice of heaven once a month or so. All of the food is outstanding, from the chicken mole to the chili verde to the chile relleno to the all you can eat tacos. All served with an amazing array of mild to nuclear salsas and habanero pastes. Mario is a gourmet chef and will whip you up something from scratch if you don't want something that's on the menu or would like to modify one that is. And you won't find a more gracious, generous, or personable host anywhere. He treats you like family and will sit down at your table between whipping up magic dishes to chat and catch up. Can't say enough good things about the food or the personal service. Only 10 mins off Hwy 95, between Sandpoint and Coeur d Alene, and well worth the detour or special trip out of you way. Once you eat here you will have a hard time wanting to eat at any other Mexican restaurant.

Quick summary...really decent Mexican food, and service is well intentioned, but could be improved. Good sized portions were accompanied by plenty of free chips and a variety of salsas. Pace of service was a bit slow, there were some errors, and a couple times we needed to ask for something a couple times. The servers were very pleasant, and overall the meal was quite good. I would go on a day when you can sit at the outside tables, the inside was a bit dark for a nice sunny day.

We have eaten here several times since he opened last year. Agree, it is the best Mexican food in the area. However, it is the only Mexican food in the area. If Mario is there, and cooking, it is some of the best, anywhere. If he is not there.........not so good. Actually, pretty amazing the difference. His daughter, the alternate cook and sometimes wait person has not come close to mastering her father's art. When Mario is there you are in for a treat.......salsa made at your table, amazing Chile Verde and pretty much everything else. And, a totally endearing and caring personality. The quality of his preparations are somewhat tempered by the less than attractive premises, of which he leases from a local owner. This could be a four star or better if Mario could control consistency when he is absent, and some improvement in the building. Suggest eating outside and not even looking inside. It will enhance the experience. Bottom line......ask if Mario is cooking. Oh yeah....guess it really does not matter as even when he is not cooking, it is still better than anywhere else in Bayview.

My wife and I just cerebrated our 7th anniversary last night out at bayview and had been told Mario's was a really authentic experience so we gave it a shot and we were amazingly surprised!!! Mario the owner came outside and introduced himself with a great firm handshake and was very friendly, Mario was great about my food allergy and they brought out three salsas that didn't have tomatoes. We can't wait to go back...

We're in Bayview for the weekend and stumbled into Mario's. Lucky us! Everything was delicious. I had a feeling we were in for something good when I looked over the menu, but the food was even better than expected. The Lengua and Barbacoa street tacos were delicious, as was everything else I tasted around the table. Only in town for two days, but we plan to go back.

The mere fact that Bayview now has a Mexican restaurant is reason enough to go. And if you're in this tiny resort town for any length of time, you'll end up going to all the bars and restaurants anyway. But Mario's actually serves up some pretty good food -- though they need to work on their service. Most of the tables seem to be outside, or at least they were during a hot week in July. There's a large shady tree that makes outdoor seating feasible/pleasant, and at night there are strings of colored lights that add a festive touch. We started off with complimentary chips and salsa, including their awesome guacamole-esque green salsa (made from lettuce, apparently?). For an appetizer, we tried the Delicious Asparagus, aka bacon-wrapped asparagus with more green salsa on top. The asparagus lived up to its name, but at $8 for three stalks, I could have lived without it. The dinner menu is slightly pricey and most entrees are around $15-20, but portions are generous and the ingredients tasted fresh. I had the shrimp fajita salad, which was cool and refreshing on a hot day and felt light and healthy. The carne asada was less impressive -- for one thing, it had tomato sauce all over it, and we felt that that was probably intended to hide the fact that it was a stringy, somewhat tough cut of beef. It was more like a braised beef in tomato sauce. The service was really hit-or-miss. They kept forgetting to bring out things we had ordered or asked for, the beer cans were warm out of the fridge, they left avocados off my fajita salad (and, after much delay, delivered a bowl of mashed avocado rather than slices), they forgot to bring tortillas for the fajitas, and on and on. It took so long that my friend got up and walked to the bar across the lot and got a COLD beer there! Our server, who I believe was the owner's daughter, seemed frustrated with the constant mistakes and I think she took off one of the warm beers from our tab to apologize, but I would rather have just had the food come out correctly. They also had some younger kids clearing tables and asking if we needed anything, and they were very cute and obviously taking their job very seriously. ;) Overall, this is a good Mexican restaurant in Bayview, which I never thought I'd find myself saying! It sounds like they've been open for a year or so, so I'm surprised they are still struggling this much with service. Definitely give it a try, but be prepared for slightly high prices and don't be in a rush.

Roasted pork was soooo delicious I could die! Chicken mole enchiladas was good, but a little too sweet for me. BF got the biggest burrito I've ever seen! Nice patio area with a view of the lake and fabulous service. Will definitely be back next time we are in the area

Best Mexican food in the area! A must stop for anyone wanting the freshest and most flavorful Mexican food. Try the carne asada tacos my fav! 5 varieties of salsa and you can ask for Mario (owner) to make you extra hot salsa, which he does in front of you with a large volcano rock mortar! Can't beat the gorgeous lake right out front either!

Mario's is a find! Great, authentic food like the other reviewers have said. . Mario often comes out to greet his guests when he has a moment and he has his family working with him so everyone cares a great deal about the business. Nice, outdoor seating area with a beautiful tree in the front. Don't be fooled when you drive up and it seems small. Once you are sitting under the shade of the tree and the cute lights strung on it, you will feel quite comfortable. Delicious, homemade food. It takes a little longer as it is all individually prepared by Mario. But as you wait, you can enjoy several types of delicious salsa and the wait is not any longer then at a high quality restaurant. Worth it! Bring your appetite as portions are generous. Also, sodas available in bottles from Mexico. Lots of Fanta! Your kids will love it as well as the yummy Dreyers ice cream for dessert.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
