This place was amazing! On our way to Yellowstone, my friend and I spotted this along our drive and just had to stop in. Our waitress was very friendly and gave us a great food recommendation. The combo meals come with tater tots which is awesome and they were delicious. Our burgers were also very, very tasty. I got a soft serve ice cream cone and my friend got a milkshake. Both amazing! If I am ever back in this area, I will be sure to stop at the Frostop Drive-In again!!

The only thing saving this from a one is the staff who are very friendly. Have stopped here before for soft serve, ordered food this time. What a disappointment. Chicken nuggets were just compressed ground cardboard cooked to a crisp. Totally inedible. Tater tots ok, how do you ruin a tater tot? Hamburger meat sub par, bun cold and stale, thick slice of onion. Threw most of it away.

Three star food but they have in-house made root beer......plus shakes, floats, etc... This bumps it up a solid 4 stars. Great place to stop on the way to Yellowstone. The waitress was super helpful, smiling and all around great.

I have owned the Frostop Drive In since 2007. I would love to hear your comments good or bad. Come in and check us out. We have great Root Beer Floats, Burgers and I think our Fries are the best......

Great bacon cheese burger with fresh onion, fresh dark green romain lettuce along with pickles. Served with good fries. The root beer had free refills. Good stop before heading into Yellowstone.

Who doesn't love the Frostop!! Small town hospitality at its finest. Cassidy took excellent care of us!! They even sell the mugs. We have one at our home and it reminds us of great summers fly fishing!

Have not tryed the food here yet! Did try a root beer float it was super good! The place seemed really cramped and could use some serious updating/ remodeling looks like something out of the 70s!! The young ladies that work there are very cute and very nice. They didn't seem to have down a very good system for getting orders out it seemed a bit too chaotic and too many on staff for as small of an area they were working in. Seems like a popular place though they need better parking. Parking lot seemed a bit small as well out side of building seems run down.

awesome find of this place in the middle of 'no where'! decided to explore a little outside of YNP and found this place, you can't miss it! everything we had was awesome, have to tried the tots AND the idaho potato fries - so yummy! root beer floats is a must too. friendly services... the restroom door is a little tricky though, make sure you lock it tight - sorry to the guy whoever ran into me doing my business - wasn't intentional!

This place has so much going for it: old 1970's interior decor, drive-up with carhops, and a gigantic revolving root beer float. Unfortunately, that's where the positives end at Frostop. On my first visit, I had a burger for $8.59. When our burgers came out, they were absolutely drenched in "fry sauce". I wasn't aware that everything here (and possibly in Idaho) comes with "fry sauce". Fry sauce looks to be mayo and Thousand Island - think McDonald's secret sauce. It was disgusting and I scraped off all the sauce that I could. My boyfriend thought the sauce was OK, although there was too much. It was difficult to taste anything except that pink, vomitus mess. Our carhop did not provide us with napkins, and I smelled like that sauce for 24 hours despite having washed my hands and face multiple times. The fries were great. We also had tater tots, which was fun. I learned my lesson about "fry sauce", and the next time Frostop's quaint drive-up and rotating root beer sign pulled me in - I was ready. We decided to dine inside this time and walked in to their fabulous little diner and sat on the bar stools right in front of the waitress and the soda machine. My boyfriend ordered a burger, and asked for it "without" the sauce. The waitress was completely stunned - this obviously never happens. I ordered the chicken tender basket with barbecue sauce as my condiment of choice for $7.99. The order arrived, and my basket was only three, small, Cisco product tenders. Dairy Queen does a superior chicken tender basket. The barbecue sauce was plain Cisco brand sauce, and that pink puke "fry sauce" appeared in my basket in a little plastic container. There is no ketchup or mustard in visible sight. We could have requested it, but our waitress's attention wasn't easy to get. Our Cokes came in frosted mugs, which was cool, but when we ran dry the waitress really took her time in offering us a refill. When she gave us our bill, my boyfriend laid a $20 down on the counter. It sat there for at least a solid 15 minutes, right in front of the waitresses, completely ignored. We needed change, but the staff was ignoring us and we were so over Frostop at this point that we just left. This place should be great, and I think that is one of the reasons we found both dining experiences to be so frustrating. We will not return.

As the others who passed through said, concerning service, but pretty good food. Nearly photo quality presentation of burgers and such. If you're not from this dirthole town however, you should expect to be treated like a serial killer. I would have asked for some ketchup, but the occasional service was not available. Since I was left on my own just about the whole time, I had the opportunity to observe the local wildlife. I noticed that the family who was running this place for the last few years had got really fat compared to their pictures on the wall. That's fine and all, but they all seemed very angry. Angry and taking it out on their coworkers and everyone else who was around. The hogzilla queen here was fairly outlandishly abusive to the hot two-tone hair number that was serving my table. It seemed a pattern. Pure dogpack dominance stuff. Since no one came to my table to give me a bill, I walked up to the register. There was more weirdness there. I had to go outside for water and remembered that I didn't leave a tip when I was miles away. So here's my tip: hotskinnyservergirl, leave that town. The hogzilla hates you because you're pretty and her husband looks at you like he doesn't look at her anymore. Leave before you end up sad, angry, and pathetic like her. Go to LA and party. Get on a bus and go somewhere before these people weigh you down and drown you in hamburgers and milkshakes.

Ok so maybe I'm a little more than biased since this was the restaurant that my husband and I stopped at on our way to our honeymoon cabin in Island Park...but...I've got to say this food is delicious. I'm sure it's not very good for you, but hey, splurging every now and then is good for you :). The first time we visited frost-top I ordered a salad and my husband got a burger. He loved his burger and the fries *which I helped him finish* were DELICIOUS. This last time we stopped by we shared a chicken strip basket, fries and of course - a frosttop rootbeer. YUM. The chicken was delicious! Most chicken strips look like they were ground at some time and then molded into chicken strip shape *yuck* but THESE chicken strips were REAL CHICKEN. The fries were still AMAZAZIIING! And the rootbeer was delicious. I will continue to come to this restaurant until I'm too old to hop up on the barstools...but then I'll just sit in the dining area :)

A drive-in with a giant rotating root beer mug? HOW COULD THIS NOT BE A QUALITY ESTABLISHMENT?!!! We stopped in after Yellowstone and we were all starrrrving. Service isn't quick, and the food doesn't magically appear instantly, but that's because, as the signs tell you - they're COOKING it. I was ready to eat anything that didn't bite me first, but I was a little leary of a random drive-in, so I just ordered a hamburger. Never fear - Big hamburger, good meat, great toasted bun, admittedly slathered in the ubiquitous Idaho "fry sauce". For the uninitiated, "fry sauce" is ketchup and mayonnaise. I hate mayonnaise, but this was still a great burger, and big enough to be filling on its own. It came with tater tots, which were good, but son's fresh, seasoned fries were even better. Daughter ordered a salad. I was a little dubious about what she'd wind up with from a drive-in, but she said it was fresh, tasty, and she's particularly picky. Don't think you're going to drive thru and have processed food flung at you, you won't, it's a DRIVE -IN that cooks real food. Meals are in the $8 range. They also had some nice looking sundaes and shakes on the menu, but we didn't order them.

Looking for good food in a small town. Stopped at this road side restaurant. Neat little "shack" feeling. Ordered the Halibut sandwich special, choice of french fries or "tots", with good old root bear-$8.99 (it seems like this is the going rate for combo). Loved the tots, haven't had tots for a long time. Halibut was nice and flaky (you know it's not from the freezer). No hurry in this restaurant. Take your time. I took pictures of the bear holding the salt and pepper. It's so cute. They actually sell them, as well as the flowers for the hair. Neat to be in a small town, feeling welcomed. You can actually eat in your car with car service, but why not get your b---- out of the car meet some strangers? If only I had two stomachs, I would have tried their cold fruit soup, sounded really good.

I've been stopping here with my family since I was a wee little kid whenever the family road trip down highway twenty allowed. It's been awhile since I've been here but it was all I remembered. For this blip on the highway, it's a MUST stop. At the very least pull in and get a milkshake (I recommend a huckleberry or chocolate), or a rootbeer float, or you should really just get both. You wont be disappointed. I promise you that. They have a small put varied menu of delicious food-- hamburgers, hot dogs, fried fish, salmon sandwiches (all fish is local from the snake river), soup and salads. I had a burger with a slice of ham on top with a side of tatter-tots. And don't forget to try the fry sauce, it's good. My sister had a Salmon Sandwich, which was moist and flaky. My father had a Fish Basket that he enjoyed as well. Everyone's meal was delicious after day of walking in Yellowstone National Park. You got to stop here!

The Frostop Drive-in is more than just a classic burger and shake place, it is a veritable oasis on the road to and from Yellowstone National Park, Island Park, or Mesa Falls. Countless visitors, both local and from across the world, have stopped here seeking cool refreshment ... and they found it. This is a great place for a shake or cool drink. The huckleberry shake is a local favorite, as is the rootbeer float. The caramel float was my favorite as a boy whenever we passed through Ashton on a hot afternoon after a trip to the mountains. They serve typical drive-in fare in baskets: a variety of burgers, chicken sandwiches and such. There are some unique options like the grilled salmon sandwich, the Frostop burger (topped with ham) or the pizza burger. They also have fun side dishes like deep fried mushrooms, zucchini, cheese sticks, and jalapeños ("bottle caps.") Of course, they also carry the condiment of choice in Utah and Eastern Idaho: fry sauce. If you haven't had it before, you have to try this intermountain delicacy.

So delicious, stopped there after Yellowstone and on way to Jackson. Really good burger, fries and onion rings but those huckleberry shakes are the bomb! Bathroom door around back doesn't lock very well--my 11 year old walked in on someone--so be careful! When you walk in the door, don't be confused--order at the counter, not the cash register.

There are places that try and reproduce and old timey atmosphere and then there are the places that are actually OLD. I don't think that the frost top has changed since 1940. It has a giant root beer float in effigy as a sign and everything comes with tots and fry sauce. The girls who work there could re-define the term "run by locals" as Ashton is truly a wide spot in the road. They are old-fashioned, down home friendly. They will tell you what the weather will be like up ahead, where to go if you need something in the area and what the best frozen waterfalls are to visit... (something you didn't even know you wanted to do!) I stop here twice a year at least - on my way to Montana for christmas and on my way back to LA after Christmas. If you are on your way to Yellowstone its worth a quick stop and if you like authentic Americana, don't hesitate to go out of your way.

Was just leaving West Yellowstone territory flying down the highway when I hit Ashton ID and saw the huge Frostop mug and slid quickly into the parking lot!!! As a New Orleanian with a Frostop (closed presently unfortunately) across from my dad's former hardware I had to check it out. Upon walking in it was all there: root beer mugs, the smell of fries and fried food with a twist of the area ...halibut sandwiches. I ordered a small and large chocolate shake and waited as more people poured in as it was lunch time. Everyone knew each other and they were all very friendly especially the girl behind the counter. The manager whisked by her and told her to call another employee to come in to help as the crowd grew yet no one was in a panic. The food rolled out and looked great and then the shakes came. Mine was close to a foot tall with a sugar cookie in it as well as a spoon and a straw. I soon learned the spoon was due to the thickness of the malt which took me an hour to eat and the little cookie was the piece de la resistance. The atmosphere was a throw back in time. It was well worth the stop as it made my day on the way to SLC. My true life moment was when I told the waitress about the Frostops in south Louisiana and she declared she didn't know any others existed other than the one in Ashton...PRICELESS!?!?!

So delicious, stopped there after Yellowstone and on way to Jackson. Really good burger, fries and onion rings but those huckleberry shakes are the bomb! Bathroom door around back doesn't lock very well--my 11 year old walked in on someone--so be careful! When you walk in the door, don't be confused--order at the counter, not the cash register.

There are places that try and reproduce and old timey atmosphere and then there are the places that are actually OLD. I don't think that the frost top has changed since 1940. It has a giant root beer float in effigy as a sign and everything comes with tots and fry sauce. The girls who work there could re-define the term "run by locals" as Ashton is truly a wide spot in the road. They are old-fashioned, down home friendly. They will tell you what the weather will be like up ahead, where to go if you need something in the area and what the best frozen waterfalls are to visit... (something you didn't even know you wanted to do!) I stop here twice a year at least - on my way to Montana for christmas and on my way back to LA after Christmas. If you are on your way to Yellowstone its worth a quick stop and if you like authentic Americana, don't hesitate to go out of your way.

Was just leaving West Yellowstone territory flying down the highway when I hit Ashton ID and saw the huge Frostop mug and slid quickly into the parking lot!!! As a New Orleanian with a Frostop (closed presently unfortunately) across from my dad's former hardware I had to check it out. Upon walking in it was all there: root beer mugs, the smell of fries and fried food with a twist of the area ...halibut sandwiches. I ordered a small and large chocolate shake and waited as more people poured in as it was lunch time. Everyone knew each other and they were all very friendly especially the girl behind the counter. The manager whisked by her and told her to call another employee to come in to help as the crowd grew yet no one was in a panic. The food rolled out and looked great and then the shakes came. Mine was close to a foot tall with a sugar cookie in it as well as a spoon and a straw. I soon learned the spoon was due to the thickness of the malt which took me an hour to eat and the little cookie was the piece de la resistance. The atmosphere was a throw back in time. It was well worth the stop as it made my day on the way to SLC. My true life moment was when I told the waitress about the Frostops in south Louisiana and she declared she didn't know any others existed other than the one in Ashton...PRICELESS!?!?!

so glad i happened to drive by here!!!! it felt like a classic american roadside attraction. wonderful root beer floats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sweet counter girl.
