Amazing (perhaps the only place) that comes in site during the journey from Craters of the Moon to D K Motel (place of stay in Arco). Grilled chicken sandwich with fries + pepsi (they don't have coke :/ ) was a delight to eat. The place was clean. Looked Welcoming. The server was very friendly and helpful! Oh, and a tip: They don't take American Express.

We were at Craters of the Moon park and stopped just because of the unusal name, glad we did, I had a rib eye. And it was perfect. The waitress was friendly and very helpful. Great place to eat.

Very friendly staff. Quaint little place. Reminded me of back home. Fried pickles were real good (spears). Had the fried fish with tater tots. That was the best part of the meal. Fish batter was filled with dripping grease. The homemade spices was a treat. Bought a bottle to take home.

Very few times in my life do I leave a restaurant where I want to go barf what little I ate off my plate, but my visit to Pickles fits the bill. The two room cafe is really dirty, with junk and boxes piled up in several corners of the restaurant. Both our coffee mugs was so grossly dirty I hated to put my lips or hands on the cup. I would have asked for another one, but by the looks of everything here, I knew a different cup would only yield the same result. Even the waitresses were wearing food crusted dirty uniforms. Still, the joint was busy with almost every table taken on a Sunday morning. Boxes piled up and just a general mess in the kitchen. The water pitcher and plastic glasses were plastered with lime spots or dried up soap from a ineffective dishwasher. Tables took way too long to be bussed and overall it was a gross setting to eat in. Flies too. And the food, served on chipped plates, consisted of practically raw mushy hash browns, greasy scrambled eggs and I think my toast was buttered using the liquid oleo and paintbrush technique. Bad bad bad!

Very good fresh food. Broasted chicken is amazing. Homemade potato salad is a must!! Great service to top it!

If you enjoy waiting an hour for low grade food this is the place for you. Expect to get zero service unless you personally know a waitress. Might as well save your appetite for fast food.

Food was okay, hamburger was cold, cheese curds were good, French dip had a lot of roast beef, as'jus was a little bland. Wait was over long, need a fry cook or another person helping in the kitchen. Waitress tried to greet everyone, but was very busy and couldn't give everyone personal service. Place seemed to be clean enough just old. Hopeful an up date in their future. Getting a table was very difficult, we invited another couple to sit down with us. Awesome visit and helped the time to go a little faster.

Cute enough place on the eastern edge of town. Plenty of local color and a friendly staff made for an enjoyable breakfast stop. Does not carry coca-cola products, bummer!

Fantastic food. The Ski Bum Burger with cheese was excellent. The servers were helpful and friendly. Thanks!

Stopped here while spending the day with my wife and kids at Craters of the Moon, just 18 miles away. Seemed like the only place to grab a bite in Arco, so we gave it a shot. Burgers were good--I had the atomic burger; wife had a cheesburger. Fries could have used more seasoning. Service was friendly and coffee was drinkable. Overall a nice little hole in the wall out in the middle of nowhere.

This is a kitchy town and we wanted an atomic burger. It was okay. The tater tots were good. We ordered fried pickles and fried cheese curds. Those were really good!! The food is not quite diner quality. The lady was friendly and prompt when bringing out the meals. Check out the museum across the street for the nuclear submarine. It's awesome!

Atmosphere was a little concerning. One of the servers had a pretty bad cough going on. The menu had a lot going on, and there were a few low carb options, but no gluten free or vegetarian options, which I expected anyway. I had steak and eggs since I don't eat pork and most breakfast options included pork. The meal itself was alright, eggs weren't as cooked as I had asked, but that's common since "medium" is hard to do. My father, who was with me was ecstatic about his "big pickle" dish (ham and eggs). He liked the sausage gravy the best. As for myself, I wouldn't care to eat there again, but I know my father will go back. We we're passing through on a road trip.

Not bad on a Sunday in nowhere Idaho. Fried pickles were great. We split ski bum. Buns were good. Meat was fresh. I'd go back again.

Meat was good, veggies were not fresh, got a tiny little slice of tomato, and a small hand full of fries. Not worth $10. Waitress had a very bad attitude was horrible and service was bad. Who charges 50 cents to swipe a credit card, this place does.

Had a really tasty buffalo burger & tots! Prompt & super friendly service from Maria. Be sure to take a pic in the giant rocking chair out front!

Stopped here on our way to Craters of the Moon. We passes several signs building it up as a destination stop. The food was good if a little high priced for burgers and fries. The fried pickles are the best I've ever had, definitely get them. You can get a bottle of their seasoning salt, take a picture in a huge rocking chair out front, and purchase a Pickle's tee shirt to commemorate the occasion. I'd say it's worth the stop on your way through, but not someplace you'd want to travel out of your way to visit.

This is a tough one. Do I rate the experience here based on what I expect back home? If so, it gets about 2 stars. Do I rate the experience based on the fact that I came here to eat the "Atomic Burger," as if it was some sort of holy burger that everyone should make a trek to come eat once in their life? 2 stars. Do I rate it based on first impressions when entering the restaurant? 1 star. Do I rate it based on my reaction to the food when it came out? 2 stars. Do I rate it based on how I felt after actually trying the food? 4 stars, because I was very surprised how good the burger was. Do I rate it based on the charge to use your credit card? 1 star. This place didn't quite eke out a 4-star rating from me because there were just too many things that were off-putting about this place. I'd still go back if I were in the area, because it's one of the very few options for miles around. I was very happy with the hamburger, but the presentation, value, surroundings, everything else lacked a bit.

If you don't want Mexican food, this appears to be the best (only?) option in Arco. Pickle's Place is a fun little restaurant with a decent menu of diner items and Mexican options...so I guess you cannot avoid Mexican food in Arco. The atmosphere is casual and perhaps divey, and the service was attentive and nice. I ordered the cheeseburger, which was good and tasted like any standard diner-style burger. The only let down was that it was advertised as fresh and made with a special seasoning, neither of which I could taste. My friend ordered the pork tamales, which I enjoyed but she did not. Pickle's Place is a good stop for lunch if you are visiting Craters of the Moon, but do not come to Arco just for the food.

Not worth stopping here, wait 30 minutes for the next town. The waitresses are ignorant of the meals they serve, and couldn't pitch a T-ball to a toddler. The establishment has a funky aroma that is reminiscent of fried roaches. The only good product they have is seasoning salt.

  • Ken G.

Food was awful and service was worse. Salad was old, omelette was cold, strawberry malt had unidentifiable black items in it. Waitress did not want to be there, had no interest in us or the timing or quality of the food. She should get another job. The place seemed dirty and my stomach was upset for two days after our visit. The board of health would probably have a field day there.

I've stopped here about three times, and have the same opionion for each. Food is ok for 'drive-in' type food, and if it's summer and very busy, you can wait a long time for your order. Waited 45 minutes or longer for two burgers, and they were completely slammed with customers. Staff has always been courteous, so no complaints in that department.

We had a nice dinner at Pickles Place last night. The Buffalo Salad had crisp veggies to munch on and the Buffalo Chicken atop had a tasty sauce, plus the chicken was cooked just right. Cheese burger and fries were great. The prices are about par with anywhere else. Hamburgers are fresh made, not frozen. Spices, sauces, even most of the salad dressings are made on site. Maybe some folks think the prices are high because they think that they should be lower due to being far from a big city or the portions should be bigger. We were not able to finish the large portions we had in front of us.

  • Ben M.

Not a great experience. I've now stopped here with my family four times so I'm not just taking a one-time unfair jab at this place. For what they serve the prices are pretty high. I sympathize with the struggle to keep a small town restaurant profitable but if the prices are going to be this high then the quality has to rise too. My most recent experience involved a $6 turkey sandwich with one piece of lunch meat turkey, one slice of processed cheese, shredded lettuce, and mayo. No tomato, onion, etc. and the menu billed it as more than what I expected. Additionally we had chicken strips (labeled fillets on the menu). They were thoroughly overcooked and dry. I specifically ordered the large side-order of fries as well. Let's just say I wonder what the small order looks like. Finally to top it off their pop machine seemed to be miscalibrated putting out flat pop without enough of the syrup mixture causing the drink to taste like lightly flavored soda water. The final frustrating straw was the debit card transaction fee. I'm used to paying a fee for using my debit card in various small businesses and I'm OK with it. My problem with this restaurant is the fact that its a "hidden" fee. It wasn't until my wife and I combed through our ticket did we find the fee. It was small (only $0.50) but I feel that the waitress should have been up front about it when I presented her with my debit card. Adding it on without notifying the customer is wrong. I've made previous visits here dating back to 2009 and wish I could say that it was a great place to stop. We've now changed our travel plans to eat elsewhere.

You know your dining experience isn't going to be a good one when your two year old son says "it smells awful in here" when you enter the restaurant. The "roast beef" was cold and old. The bratwrust was also cold. The best and only good part of the meal were the baked potatoes. The waitress had a chip on her shoulder the size of Texas. I was afraid she spit in our food. We only left her a 15% tip and that was generous. Stay away from this place!!

The Atomic Burger!!!!! Next time, I am def gonna try the fried pickles! The waitresses and locals were quite friendly.

Well we fell into pickles after leaving the Craters of the Moon National Park, finding Arco, Idaho and finding it was Atomic Days at the park. The wait for a burger in the park was 30 minutes, so we drove thru Arco, and Pickles showed up! Nice people, Nice burger, Good Service and when there is nothing else for 50 miles, I give extra stars and encourage you to STOP and support the little local businesses. (there were absolutely no chains in Arco, ID)

Not many choices in Arco. The dinner was straight out of a Swanson's frozen dinner. But the breakfast was good...roadworthy eggs and pancakes...also good local traffic in the morning. But, if you can help it, don't drink the coffee.

The hills have... Burgers, Atomic Burgers!!!! Located in the middle of nowhere. Pickles place is really the only choice, so comparing it to a local eatery would be pointless. However, if there was another eatery Pickles would probably win. All the thrill us city folk get out of eating in these places are in full effect. You walk in and everyone looks at you like "Whoa, who is that!?!" but in a good way. They're very nice people. The food is awesome. In particular the "Atomic Burger" named after the towns legacy for atomic power. This massive burger has a taste as big as its size. The fries weren't half bad ether. All in all a pretty good meal. So if you ever find yourself in the middle of arco... god only knows why. Eat here!

We stopped here on the way out of Craters of the Moon. My husband and I ordered the Atomic Burger since they were advertising it all over. What we got was a bland, unseasoned burger on a cheap dry bun with canned mushrooms, a slice of American cheese and soggy onions. Bleh. At least the fries were pretty good, otherwise, I told my husband, I would have walked right out - this being Idaho and all. Oh, and they do have a cute, huge rocking chair in the front for photo ops. I'd recommend taking a photo and heading somewhere else. Just warning you, don't expect much. There really isn't anything else around so either just know what to expect or drive on by

Juicy homemade burgers. We liked the ice cream. Worth stopping by if you are driving by. Not worth going out of your way for.

We weren't expecting much when we drove into Arco, but Pickles exceeded our expectations. While the decor is not much to look at, the staff is friendly, the burgers are delicious, and the fried pickles are a slice of heaven. The huge rocking chair outside was a hit with the kids and the shirts were a cute souvenir. Overall, a satisfying stop for a quick meal on our way to the mountains.

The only place in town, except the deli, open on Sunday night. Good burgers. Service just okay, kind of slow, but friendly enough.

Severe stomach cramps & explosive diarrhea (food poisoning) for both my spouse and me 1 hr. after lunch. Will NEVER eat here again! 2 cheeseburgers, 2 Pepsi's, 2 onion rings came to $22.43. Was the only place in town open on Sun. afternoon. Service is slower than molasses in January. Thought we'd been forgotten. Now we wish we had been:( Advice: drive on through.

  • Dubba D.

Although the food was okay for diner/drive-in fare, the service was slow and unfriendly. Worse than that, I think there was something in the food that didn't belong there. To be blunt, I believe there was spit or some other body fluid with similar texture in the soup. Plus the spoon was greasy as hell. Avoid this place unless you like the possibility of devouring DNA from one of the skanks behind the counter. Ick.

Not too many choices in Arco. Pickle's is likely to be the best. I had the special - fried catfish. I love fried catfish. This was quite good. Personally I prefer cornmeal batter and a touch of cayenne, but this was perfectly acceptable. Had fried pickles as a starter - they were excellent. Better than the one's I had at Beaver's in Houston. Fries, not so much. They were okay, but a little greasy. Frankly, if the fries had been top notch, I would have gone to five stars.

If you are visiting or driving by, you have to try this place. It's a home town diner. I go there every time I am in town. You cannot miss the giant green rocking chair in front of the entrance, be sure and ask someone to take your picture while you sit in the chair.

The secret of this place is their Seasoning Salt. They sell it in carry-out shakers so you can take it home and make your own delicious burgers, steak, chicken, eggs, etc. I buy a few for gifts every time I drive through town.

So once we realized there were no groceries to be had anywhere, my husband and I ended up eating at Pickle's for two breakfasts and two dinners. There's nowhere else to eat in the entire town anyway, at least from what we could tell. There were some places that were closed at night. Shops seem to close whenever, so maybe there were more options than I'm giving the town credit for. The food at Pickle's was quite good though! Our choices were limited, but I did enjoy the eggs and omelettes that I ordered. The place was packed every time we were there, which could be due to the fact that there's nowhere else in town to eat or because it's the town hangout. I think we saw the same group of old guys at the same table every time we went there. I genuinely liked the restaurant so I'll give it 4 stars.
