I have always loved Johnny's but today was a disappointment :( It wasn't very busy so we were seated right away but it took a while to receive our drinks and place our order. The bread and dipping oil is spectacular so 2 thumbs up on that!! But--We had to ask for more bread and refills on water. The menu is always changing, so if you are craving something, chances are, you won't be able to find it again. I had the lemon vege chicken or something, but the noodles were so bland, they had NO sauce or flavor. I had a few bites then asked to get it packaged up to take home. I wanted to add my own flavor to make it edible. The restrooms are clean and well-maintained. And there is a large room to entertain bigger groups Sorry Johnny--- it will be a while before we return

The gentle man working the Bar is pretty damn good. I tip pretty well. Way more than 10%. But I pay him at least a 3rd of my bill. He is on top of everything and always makes it worth the money to sit down with your wife and enjoy the food. I recommend sitting in the bar area and enjoy the top notch service.

This place is disgusting. Came here to meet family. Party of 8 and everyone's food was cold when it came out. Not much flavor in that cold food either... I was in the restroom washing my hands and saw an employee come out of the bathroom stall and walk straight out of the restroom without washing his hands. He was in the shitter!!!! That was nasty. It was probably the same guy who prepared my cold food. Didn't even heat my meal enough to kill the E. coli that was certainly on my food. Hopefully I won't end up with food poisoning.

Its our favorite Italian restaurant in this area! My husband and I always come here for special occasions and date nights. Scrumptious menu choices, friendly/ attentive service and a pleasant atmosphere. We love the bread with garlic oil btw! Even though its slightly on the pricey side, gotta love this place overall. :)

I don't know why this place is only getting a 2 star rating. The food here is awesome. First time I went here was with a large group the day before a friend's wedding. Excellent food, excellent service. Ok so the 2nd time I went with a different large group, there was some service issues, but the manager made sure to make up for it with a few $5 gift coupons for EVERYONE at the table. The 3rd time I went was with my husband on a date night. The food was delicious and the service was on point. Italian Nachos were amazing, Italian Soda was sooo good, and their wedge salad was the best salad I have eaten anywhere. Olive Garden is right down the street from my neighborhood, however I would drive all the way across town to JC's any day!!!

Every time I have gone I have had excellent service. The food is delicious and I have never had a bad experience with it. They have delicious Italian sodas that are endless I might add. I have never tasted fettuccine Alfredo that was as good as I had here. It was incredible. Their cream and oil sauces are excellent, but I don't care for their red sauce. I recommend the angel hair artichoke pasta, that is my favorite other than the Alfredo. They are usually quite busy so there can be a wait time but the longest I've ever had is an hour for my food after I arrived. The delicious endless bread and oil and dinner conversation is great to keep you distracted till then. Hope you had as good of an experience as I did!

I have always liked this place. I ordered the Risotto Soup and got the Minestrone instead. No big deal. The Minestrone Soup however seemed a bit too salty - but that could just be me. My wife's dish was cold when it arrived. Not sure what was going on because we were there before the lunch rush. Inattentiveness I guess. Oh well.

Went for Monday night Family Platter and had the best service I have ever had. I hope I got our waitresses name right, Cassidy (dark hair and small build). She was the best! Seriously it has been a long time since I had such great service at a restaurant!

7 of us went. Bad service. Every pasta dish lacked sauce. Two kids ordered fettucine..the noodles were over cooked and dry. They looked disgusting. My niece said she didn't like it and I didn't blame her. My sister got the bowtie festival and I got balsamic chicken pasta. Both lacked flavor. Another niece got chicken fettucine... It had no sauce and four pieces of chicken..all smaller than my pinky finger.

Just keep driving past this place. Okay, I am a little shocked at the previous reviews, this place totally sucked. I am in here on a Wed. night and it is dead and the service is horrible. I sat at the bar, and it took ten mins for a drink and menu. I ordered a special combo, lasagna, chick parm and spagetti. No taste at all. The food was bland and reminded me of Stoufer's. In fact, I think Stoufer's has more flavor. Very disappointing. The bartender did not talk to me, ask me how my meal was, and then he did not even say thank you or good night. So sports fans, go to Olive Garden, atleast you know what your going to get up front.

Ah, Johnny's! Will people ever stop comparing you to the Olive Garden? The answer is no, but there is a good reason why. You are both chain restaurants serving similar cuisines at similar prices. You poor guy; you'll never be as well known as the OG because you don't stuff horribly fake commercials down our throats every commercial break of every television program that airs on television. But for that, I love you and support you Johnny. For my family, Johnny's is a winner hands down in the OG v. JC debate. We find Carino's menu to be more flavorful and varied, their waitstaff to be more pleasant and attentive, and their wait to be a half hour shorter than the Olive Garden across town. They should win a prize for that alone! Oh and the fresh bread with roasted garlic and oil is worth a visit on its own. Frankly, there aren't a lot of "fine dining" choices in the IF. Ye old stand-by is waiting in Ammon and is pretty good.

Let me first start by saying that you will be tempted to eat here because while everything else that is good in town has a long wait, Carino's will almost always be ready to seat you immediately or within minutes. There's a reason why, folks. We went here for my wife's birthday because the Olive Garden had an hour and a half wait. Bummed and wanting Italian, we were cruising around town getting ready to head towards the Texas Roadhouse, when we remembered Johnny Carino's. Having never eaten here, we decided to give it a try. What a terrible mistake. The atmosphere right as you walk in is just strange. You are instantly greeted by a bunch of local teenagers working at the restaurant and music that only they would have the mind to play in a sit down restaurant. The wait wasn't long, but after eating there I can understand why. The food was atrocious. My soup came from a can. I know because I could taste the aluminum. The bowl was also piping hot while the soup lukewarm, indicating that it had been microwaved. The Italian Nachos were interesting and probably the highlight of the night. My chicken alfredo was so disgusting, I took about four bites and had to stop. Have you ever had italian food made from those McCormick packets you our over noodles? Imagine that with pre-grilled frozen chicken from Wal-Mart mixed in and you have yourself a meal from Johnny Carino's. This atmosphere sucks, the service is poor, and the food is disgusting. Don't eat here.

Let me share a brief history of my experiences and family experiences with Johnny Carino and then I will wrap it up with my most recent experience. Because we usually went or had to eat here for special occasions, I remember very well how Johnny Carino's failed in service and in food. Trip 1 Dinner: Was seated, water slapped on the table with the comment, "I'll be right back to take your order!" The waiter was back promptly in an hour later, took our table's order and an hour later the food arrived. Mine was cold and they tried to reheat it, resulting in overcooking the pasta Trip 2 Lunch: Seated promptly, again water was slapped on to the table with the comment, "I'll be right back to take your order!" 50 minutes later the waitress came back, took our orders and 45 minutes later the food arrived. My dad's chicken was frozen in the center, not cold, still frozen. At least the service was quicker this time. Trip 3 Group Dinner for 60 people: With reservations for the group area, people started arriving about 30 minutes before the reservation. Sixty people waited outside for two or more hours while the manager came out and assure us we were just about to be seated. Apparently the party before us was having a really good time. The manager then came out and told us, "Well, I just can't ask the people who reserved it for the earlier time slot to leave!" Our group was forced to go to Silzzler because they were the only restaurant that could accommodate sixty people at such a late notice. They had everything we needed in to sit in 30 minutes. Most recent-- Dinner: Was seated, and as always, water slapped on the table with the comment, "I'll be right back to take your order!" an hour later he did come back and an hour later the food arrived, for my brother, sister, mom and myself. My Dad's arrived 30 minutes later. It was a salad and soup. And to tradition, the soup was cold. Yes, I did end-up going to this restaurant many times because of its perception as being a nice, fancy place to dine, resulting in celebrations and events take place here that would have been rude not to attend. Otherwise, I do not have the patients for this type of service and undercooked or not cooked food. it makes me question what goes on into the kitchen. I thought it was important to share my previous visits (even though they are retrospective) along with my most current visit. I also realized that I talked more about service than food, but even with the one meal that was okay (Chicken Marsala) the service failures far outweigh any okay food served. At the price they charge, food shouldn't be just okay. I would recommend you not to spend your money here and if you do, I hope your experience isn't as ridiculous as mine has been.

Seated immediately. Had placed order; received water, salad, and appetizer within 15 minutes. Food is good, Spaghettini w/chicken and while not spectacular has good flavor. Better than most chain restaurants. Good attentive service, very reasonable prices, exactly what I expected. I've been to JC's on 3 different states, it's exactly what you expect. Consistent. Don't understand all the negative responses above. It's worth trying if you've never been.

Oh carino's .....what has happened? I remember the day when I would never here a complaint about eating at carino's. That has changed and I do know that when you get to big it's easy to let your standards slip, when this happens know matter who you what restaurant you are if your service and food quality slips customers will not pay more for that and it will hurt. The food: the soups are watered down now chicken is cheap in quality, portions are smaller and more in price, this tells the customers that there is no value for what you get. The food is not as fresh as it use to be. Service: I don't know what has happened to the service here the last two times I've gone here I've left without even be seated. All customers that come in should be seated in order, we went in when it wasn't busy and was told it would be 20 minutes, great I'm fine for waiting, 50 minutes later 5 other parties had come in and were seated before us, we were still waiting. The most frustrating thing was the servers didn't want us because there were 2 adults and 2 kids, and they thought the tip would not be as good, I know this because I heard the servers say this to the hostesses. Needless to say we just left and went to a competitor who treated us very well and the server got a good tip! I have to be honest and say we haven't been back in 18 months and won't go back till we hear and see good things. I'm all for giving places second chances but only after they make a effort to improve for the better.

Carino's Italian Kitchen. Best to upgrade service by going to McDonalds up the street.... Went to dinner and a movie with my daughter. Prices were high, food marginal, the service started mediocre and then tubed. I felt like I was being talked down to the whole time; I guess I wasn't as appealing or as smart as the young group at the next table. My daughter asked for more bread. The server tossed it into the bread basket without a word and went onto the other table. Later, I asked for a to-go box and after waiting quite a while it came flying down in front of me onto my plate. What's with all this throwing?? By the way, I'm thinking you only get one glass of water so make it last. I unfortunately drank mine up mid-way through the meal. My daughter, bless her heart, shared hers with me. Next time I do the dinner and a movie with my daughter, I think I'll take her to a place nearby with tons more class: Five Guys, Burger and Fries.

Finding places to eat in the Idaho Falls area is a bit challenging. You're limited in your options, and so driving to Ammon for food is not such a bad idea. It's the next town over. Johnny Carino's serves a decent variety of Italian. Reminds me of a less fancy version of the Olive Garden, and even the Olive Garden isn't all that fancy. The servings are generous. I didn't finish my plate. Packed it to go, but left it at the restaurant. Oops! I ate at a different restaurant in the following week for lunch, and had the same waiter from Johnny Carino's. He recognized me too! WEIRD.

I was trying to decide between the spicy shrimp and chicken pasta and the shrimp scampi...and went for the shrimp scampi. The food came with herbed bread and garlic oil, which was good, but the pasta itself was ridiculously bland. I felt like I was eating pasta in oil. Save yourself the calories...I'm going to have to try to find another place for italian in Idaho Falls...

We had a group of 12 eat on a Saturday Night. With no reservation the wait was only 15 minutes! The food was delicious and service was excellent. The bread with dipping oil was great - only problem is you get full very quickly on it. Thank you Jonny Carinos for a great evening! By

Chicken was moist, spaghetti was bland doe the Chicken Parmigina meal. Jalapeño Tilapia with angel hair noodles with sautéed spinach was devine. Meal service was excellent. Pleasant bar atmosphere, quite with closed caption TV sports.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
