Everything is good at Palmer's Deli. Fresh ingredients and great variety make it a favorite lunch spot that is always busy. My favorite as a vegetarian is the spinner salad. A giant salad with a choice of ingredients all mixed together is always something I will eat. There is plenty of hearty food with soup, sandwiches and even pre-made food in the counter that can be heated up like quiche. The choices of salads rivals the larger grocery stores with pasta salads, fruit, vegetable mixes, and more. Probably the best and worst thing about Palmers is checking out and looking at all the treats! From the famous chocolate frosted brownie to giant scotcharoos to many delicious cookies, getting past the row of dessert is nearly impossible. My favorite is the frosted molasses cookie. It's like an old-fashioned ginger snap with frosting. You can also order and pay online. I don't know another local place doing this now. Good catering and delivery also from a small to a large function. Palmers is a great local establishment with multiple metro locations. All are busy for a good reason.

This is probably the freshest and cleanest deli I have ever visited. My spouse is so picky about his deli sandwiches and he could not stop raving about how delicious the food was on our plates. We tried their specialty sandwiches and several of their homemade salads and desserts. They were all just wonderful. In addition to the food, the employees were the most friendly and welcoming. They even fixed us up with complimentary snacks to treat us on our remaining road trip. Just a great place to eat if you are in Des Moines. Can't wait to stop in again!

We stopped here on our way through town just looking for a quick sandwich and they did not disappoint. Clean, friendly and most importantly delicious! They have sandwiches both hot and cold, soups, salads, sides, cookies and brownies. The staff was very patient and helpful while the boy bumbled his sandwich order and both of us left full and happy. Definitely recommend.

Most restaurants that offer a "box lunch" reserve exclusively for catering clients and large group orders. Palmer's is one of the exceptions and they offer a nice deal. Approximately $9 nets you a full-size sandwich, deli salad, dessert, pickle spear and chips. I had "PJ'S Favorite", which was a rather large sandwich with a very nice portion of pastrami, ham, bacon, and salami. The "new" (red potatoes) had bits of fresh chopped vegetables and was a nice accompaniment to my meal. This location in particular has limited hours (8 AM-4PM) and I believe they are closed on the weekend, which is unfortunate. I understand the nature of their business is the weekday lunch crowd--but the location limits opportunities to visit. The staff is friendly and truly seems to enjoy their work.

Now who would have thought Granny Smith Apple slices, Apple Butter and Turkey would go together. It does and it is great. The toughest part of going to Palmer's is deciding on what to get. My wife and I really like Palmer's and go there often. We have taken friends there and no one has been disappointed. The only thing keeping this from 5 stars is the price. A little pricey for some but you get what you pay for

You're going to Palmer's...here are delicious solid picks. Market Chicken Salad on a croissant. Beef Eater on cibatta. Bow Tie Pasta Salad. Lasagna. Rice Crispy Treats, Iced Gingerbread Cookies, Chocolate Brownies. When I offer to buy lunch for my staff this is ALWAYS the unanimous vote!

Kinda of expensive for lunch but they have a large selection of soup that changes daily. I love the tomato ravioli and the enchilada soups. Their brownies are the best, my favorite out of anywhere. Great to get boxed lunches for work groups also. I love the poppy seed dressing they use in one of their cold pasta salad and they will sell it to me by the pint.

Yum! Whenever I'm in town I stop in for the Apple Orchard sammie. They have a huge range of sides and I also nibble off of my family's plates to try whatever new dishes are out. The staff is always friendly and the food is delicious. I recently met someone from D.C. who asked me if I had been to Palmers when he found out I was from Des Moines. Apparently, Palmer's reputation precedes it!

Fantastic local deli clove their innovative sandwiches and all the homemade goodness. The molasses cookies are a must have! This is a more expensive dining option but well worth it

Great food. The type I crave whenever I get off a plane from LA and want to stop and pick up on the way home from the airport.

By far my favorite deli in Iowa! I happen to love their tuna on pumpernickel with a cup of some nice Wisconsin cheddar cheese soup. The variety is nice and large and everything is made to order right in front of you. Great salads! Now, for the brownies that everyone keeps going on about... they're not lying! Super awesome yummy brownies.. I taste a hint of cinnamon in there. They are moist and delicious. Their cookies are great too! The place is big and roomy and has outdoor seating which is very nice when the weather permits. It's a very casual and relaxed place to eat. The staff is always very nice! So if you're in the mood for a good ol' deli, go check out Palmer's!

First job I ever had was here when I was 14! Still love the food!! Chicken salad sandwich is the best. My only complaint is that they aren't open longer! Only opened for lunch. Great place though.

If you're going over lunch hour, you might want to ride your bike. Parking spots are at a minimum during those 1-2 hours, but the Cobb Salad might be worth it! I definitely recommend.

Really good sandwiches and great desserts. Staff was also very friendly. Recommend highly for anyone looking for a good lunch and a pleasant atmosphere!

I like Palmer's. They have good sammies and salads. Solid. They are, however, on the expensive side. But, can't argue with the crowds.

I have never had a bad experience at this Palmer's. I love the variety of sandwiches, salads, sides, soups and desserts they have. If they have a special salad on the day I go, it is almost guaranteed I will get it. They have some unique sandwiches which I think is great. You can't go wrong with any of their cookies and bars. They also have rewards cards now which makes it even better. The only complaint I have is how busy it can get and how the lines are formed. If there are a ton of people getting salads, the line for the sandwiches is almost impossible to find and get to.

Some of the best sandwiches that you'll ever have! But the price is on the high side. The food is always great though and the service is quick. A must go.

Great little lunch place, though its not very little. They've got something for everyone there. Made to Order salads of the pre-designed or design your own varieties. Sandwiches on all sorts of breads with your standard assortment of toppings (and many more). There is even a 'Market' section where you can find a variety of sides and pre-made food items. For a deli, they've gone above and beyond what one should expect. I had 'The Natural' and a Neiman Marcus cookie. Now the sandwich was good (soft, fresh multigrain bread with very tasty sliced chicken breast) but the cookie, the cookie was exceptional. It was quite possibly the best cookie I think I've ever had. I'll probably make this my lunch stop for the rest of this trip and any others that bring me out to Urbandale.

Love the spinach salad, without the onions, best ever, probably because that bacon dressing makes it worse for me than a cheeseburger, but I am not asking what the fat and calories are. I am just enjoying my salad and pretending I am eating healthy, what my fat doctor doesnt know wont kill him, maybe me but not him. Anyway he would be horrified to know I always get a brownie or a scotcheroo to go with that salad. Did I mention he is fat anyway, where does he get off talking about my cholesterol? You could just go here for the dessert but really the salads Chili and sandwiches are all great. Only drawback are the limited hours at this location.

Seriously the best deli I have ever been to in my entire life. I would recommend to anyone who lives/works in DSM. Definitely do the "boxed lunch" - you can a HUGE sandwich (JP's Favorite is MY favorite).. two small sides of your choice of their salds made fresh daily! and a homemade brownie). They are known for their salads, fresh sandwiches, Neiman Marcus cookies and brownies! I would give this place 10 stars if I could.
