The Mexican waiter was fun to talk with in Spanish and hear about his home town. Then the food was the best Mexican we have had in awhile. The large guacamole was fresh and tasty, with lots of cilantro. The camarones al mojo ajo (shrimp with garlic) with sweet grilled onions was excellent and reminiscent of wonderful Yucatecan meals in Puerto Morelos. On the side was rice and lettuce salad, very traditional. My spouse had the pork tamale with mole sauce, which was chocolaty and tasty. Plus the chicken tostada was flavorful and fresh. We will go back soon.
My friend, -who took me to El Sol-, lives in Iowa City yet she does not mind traveling to Solon just to eat at El Sol. I could really see why. The place has very authentic Mexican food. I am Mexican so, believe me. Highly recommendable.
Our family was passing through town and gave this spot a try. The kids devoured the kids menu tacos and I had the huevos rancheros. Service was extremely fast and the food was excellent, authentic, with just the right amount of spice. I will stop again when passing through Solon.

Excellent food and fantastic beer! The house smoked pastrami was unbelievable, I also got to try some of the pepperoni pizza. The crust was raised in house and the pepperoni was fantastic and locally sourced. Most brewpubs either have good beer or good food. This place crushes both out of the park. Great stuff!! I WILL be back!
There are few expectations of Solon, Iowa as a center for cuisine. A small unassuming town in Eastern Iowa has fostered a gem. The refined palette meets backyard grilling sensibility. Have the boys (or girls) over to knock back a few and put something in the Weber kind of feel. But peel back that preconception and dive into the complex flavor palette the head chef is bringing. I haven't had anything in the menu that makes me reconsider the decision. From burger to pork sandwich, from pizza to salad. This is Midwest fare at it's best. Comfort food well conceived and beautifully executed. The soundtrack from our evening included: The XX, Radiohead and The Boss. In the immortal words of an Austrian which I hold no love for...."I'll be back..."
I loved the atmosphere. The server we had was super knowledgeable and was more than happy to explain the menu. I was pleased to hear about all the local food. We really enjoyed our visit!!

Time to update so here I am. In short this place is heaven. The food, and yes it can take a while to prepare food well and I am happy to wait, is perfection. I love their lamb tacos but struggle because their egg fried greens with pickled veggies is too good not to order also. Conundrum - so I order both and take home a nice leftover for another meal. The lamb in the tacos is local and superb. These tacos are amazingly delicious. The egg fried greens are seasoned beautifully and the bits of their freshly grown kale make it even better. The pickled veggies which of course they make themselves, take this dish to another level. YUM My husband usually gets breakfast and he has never been disappointed - all cooked the way he ordered - fresh farm eggs, local bacon, their own great bread and homemade jam. We have also been to the Friday night dinners and they are out of this world. The wait staff is friendly and attentive - truly making you feel appreciated. OH PLEASE keep doing what you do so well Salt Fork!
Sunday brunch stop on route from Cedar Rapids to Iowa City. Surprised there was no wait for a table at 11:45 a.m. We enjoyed our two person church pew bench at a four top right next to front door as it allowed us to people watch as folks entered and exited. Decor is very simple with farm themed "art" on the walls and nothing special tables and chairs. I was entertained mostly by the people who arrived wearing weird combinations of things as outfits like dress pants paired with a t-shirt with holes. Anyhow, I digress. Coffee arrived instantly and often and we downed cup after cup of the local brew Wake Up Iowa. After listening to our friendly server's recommendations and house favorites, my partner ordered the Jethro with a side pancake and I ordered the egg stir fried rice with a side lamb sausage patty. Food wasn't served quickly, but with the coffee coming regularly, we didn't care. And, we knew everything was cooked to order. The Jethro was a pile of homemade biscuits covered with homemade sausage patties and then topped with soft poached egg and mountains of sausage gravy. Not a Blue Zone certified entree, for sure. He gave it high marks and wouldn't share a bite. The best thing about the fried rice was the kimchee that accompanied the plate full of soy sauced rice with veggies scattered inside. The fresh greens on the side also off set the outside too salty and a bit dry rice. I liked it, but I'm pretty sure it's not a go to dish for returning customers. Next time I will order an omelet. We found the pancake to be too sweet with overwhelming vanilla flavor. I suspect many sweet lovers would have died and gone to heaven especially with the squeeze bottle of 100% pure maple syrup that comes alongside. The lamb patty on the side was a good choice and it made me question why I don't eat more of that lean meat. We loved our first visit, especially the friendly welcome and attentive service. We highly recommend.
Service - Outstanding. Food - Such a fun place to go! Apparently, they serve cheesecake (six different types) and eggs to go. 1. Egg Fried Rice and Greens - Kim Chi Slaw was really good although I didn't get any coleslaw as mentioned on the menu. The fried rice was a bit salty for my taste. I added a side of pork sausage which was fantastic.

Nomi's is awesome! I tried the scallop and vegetable dinner tonight. It was reasonably priced at 11.00 and had quite a few large scallops. The sauce was delicious and pleasantly spicy (I ordered it that way). There were plenty of vegetables and lots of tasty fried rice. The service was fast and friendly. What struck me was the food quality. Everything was fresh, hot, and beautifully presented. Nomi's is a litte family run restaurant delivering superb food at a great price. The restaurant has a beautiful decor and it is quiet soothing. Nomi's is a great place to relax and enjoy a comforting home-cooked asian meal after a hectic day. One unusual note. Nomi's does not have your usual huge menu of selections. They limit it to a nice variety of expertly prepared dishes. This is, in my opinion, more like a fine oriental dining restaurant despite the friendly and folksy appearance and reasonable prices. It rocks.
I gave it an extra handicap star cause this is Iowa. Any way, i had the bulgogi. So sad. it was sweet (why!) and not that great. It was 11 bucks for that and not worth it. sorry but lower the prices and you'll get more than one person in there during lunch time. service was nice though...but i guess since i was the only person there its not that hard to give me attention
I often meet my family in Solon to eat due to the fact that half of us live in Marion and the other half in Iowa city. We heard good thing about Nomis and had to give it a try and I must say the service was great and the food wasn't bad....Although as we usually do we all gave each others dishes a sample and it seemed as if the sauce used on all of our dishes was the exact same. Again not bad but In my opinion each dish should carry its own unique flavors.

I've eaten here once and loved it. As a diabetic, I'm delighted to use the buffet to make a big salad (no rice, beans, or tortillas) and have something filling, tasty, and low on the glycemic index. The meat / veggie dishes used for the buffet are delicious. For the price, the lunch buffet is an excellent value. The service is top-notch. I'm looking forward to visiting again!
Diego and Joel Run a great restaurant.... Food is always amazing. Very friendly staff. I'll back soon.
This review is for the service and the margaritas. I went there and met a friend. Asked for a drink that was fresh and not from their bucket, was brought one from bucket. Ordered another this time so a premium which comes with extra shot. I didnt want shot so i said regular. But strawberry. Took 2 sips and was over it. Went on to have 2 beer instead. I told him the margarita was disgusting and he. Could take it back. When i got bill i was charged for premium one anyways. But hey did give me 10% off. Basically i paid 25 bucks for 3 beers

How can you not love the home of the Blizzard! What sets this Dairy Queen apart from others in the area is the fact that it's open all winter long. True their hours are slightly abbreviated, but as long as I can get my DQ fix, all's well! Friendly peeps, an old school DQ sign and more dilly bars than you can shake a stick at! The Southwestern burger is particularly good! Extra star for legit bacon (true Wilber for those who like it right!) and real cheese on the burgers.
I love stopping at this DQ on the way back to Iowa City from Lake MacBride or the Saddleback Golf Course. They have a drive-thru (though I swear it's faster to park and go inside), and outdoor picnic table seating. They also have a large room to the side for event space. It's not the cleanest place and they get overwhelmed easily if there's a rush but once you have that dilly bar in hand, all is well in the world again.
It's a DQ, so you can count on a medium quality treat for everyone. Service is friendly but often slow and we get the wrong stuff often. You have to double check the order. Drive thru can be painful. If you want a little soft serve, the Casey's across the street has it cheaper--and some argue better-- self serve in cups. But obviously, if you have 6 kids at a sleepover and want crowd-pleasing, affordable treats, this is the place to go in Solon.
